Big Update On The Undertaker’s Status For WrestleMania 29

The talk backstage at WWE’s TV tapings is that the Undertaker’s status for WrestleMania 29 is uncertain.

There were reports several months ago that the Undertaker told WWE he would be able to wrestle at the show and named CM Punk as the man he wanted to defend his streak against.

As of this week, it sounds like the Undertaker’s badly damaged hip, which was worsened last year during his Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania, is still a major issue.

This is not the first time that the Undertaker’s health has put his WrestleMania match in jeopardy. If he decides against wrestling this year, there will need to be changes made to several planned WrestleMania matches.

    Who would he face? Wont be Brock, Cena, Rock, Del Rio, Big Show, Orton. CM Punk seems like the most logical choice since he will need something to do…but, who else is left outside of Punk? It’s a shame that he’s not healthy enough (if true) to compete after so much time off and it points to the end of the road. I’d rather see him retire now than to risk permanent damage (even worse than what he already has) just for one night.

    This could actually be a good match if it does happen. I see Undertaker going for the tombstone and the light goes and and comes back on and the shield attacks him and puts him through the announce table and cm punk drags him back to the ring having everyone think the streak is going to end but as soon as he goes for the pin the undertakers locks in hells gate for the win.

        Backstreet Bungalow is right, Undertaker is really dedicated to his character, and being a guest referee just does not sound like something he would do. Once he’s gone, he’s gonna stay gone, and will most likely only show up at things like HOF ceremonies.

        I don’t think it would work because of ‘Takers gimmick. It wouldn’t make sense for him to appear and cut a promo or to be involved in a storyline without having to wrestle. Undertaker isn’t the type of guy who is fit to be small roles, especially at WrestleMania where we’re use to seeing him in a high caliber match.

      Why not have him tag with Kane one last time. Limit his in ring time, still get him on the show, and have them face Rhodes Scholars (the only good heel tag team with some credibility). I mean come on, its the Undertaker, he will draw just by showing up. Although Id rather him not be at WM if it means him putting his body thru hell, he’s done enough, he doesn’t need to go one more time. But if he wants to, thats the best way to go imo. Besides, who doesn’t like seeing the brothers of destruction?

          few things there, 1) shawn is gone, no dx without him anymore. 2) past, 4 WM’s had either HHH or HBK, its beating a dead horse now, 3) kane has a tag partner, why ruin a great thing, and 4) i am, as i would assume many are, sick to death of DX’s 2 dozen separate “one night only” events, in which they come to the ring, talk, gag humor, leave. its just sad and a bit weird for them.

    I feel the same as I do about Edge- I would love one more match, but I don’t want to see the guy crippled. Edge could easily become crippled for life if he wrestles again, so I’m happy just seeing him on WWETV a few times a year in other capacities, as opposed to one more time in the ring, if it would be his last.
    Same with Undertaker. I hate Punk, but I’d love to see a ‘Taker/Punk WM match. The man with the 20 year winning streak vs. the man with the 434 day title run would be good. BUT if it puts Taker in danger of permanent injury, then hell no, don’t do it.
    Retire now, take another year off, whatever.     “This is not the first time that the Undertaker’s health has put his WrestleMania match in jeopardy.” No, but we’ve certainly seen several times where Undertaker’s Wrestlemania matches have put HIS HEALTH in jeopardy. As my favorite wrestler of all time, I know he always gives his matches everything he has, especially at Wrestlemanias – he does it not to prove anything, I don’t believe, but because he loves it.

    No one should ever become a pro wrestler for the money because it is SO difficult to do; such a challenging lifestyle all the ‘way around. The only thing that *I* feel can REALLY keep top echelon, highly-respected legends in the business is that they love it. The money is nice, but many of the very top guys who HAVE earned a lot of money don’t really “need” it so much. So what keeps them going? It’s in their blood; they love it.

    I love the Undertaker, and would love to see him in the ring again, but not at the expense of further damaging his health. He’s got a record and a reputation of class that will never be duplicated or surpassed. The WWE Hall of Fame will only be honored by his induction one day. :-)

    I would like him to take a year off. If the current match is Punk vs Taker than Taker taking the year off makes Punk vs Cena vs Rock almost certain. Taker then returns at WM 30 for final match against someone. This is how I would book it.

      taker would break punk, i would much rather see Rock Vs Taker or Jericho Vs Taker or Brock Vs Taker. Punk is just too scrawny and it wouldn’t be that much of a believable match since punk is so small.

        Undertaker is old and beat up from the years of wrestling. It would be a huge risk to put him into the ring with someone like Lesnar, I thin CM Punk would be the perfect and only person I can think of to face Undertaker.

    WrestleMania without The Undertaker wouldn’t be the same, but it understand if he don’t do it this year or just don’t wrestle again. His health is more important at his age. He accomplished everything in his career and he still gives us one match per year, but I think he needs to focus more on his health before coming to the ring and sustain a injury for the rest of his life.

    If he doesn’t compete then he should just retire at 20-0…..however if they decide to have him wrestle maybe Punk could take the streak?… just a thought, that would ultimately cement Punks legacy and give him that “respect” he keeps demanding.

      Punk was the longest reigning WWE Champion in the past 25 years…Punk’s legacy is cemented because if Shawn Michaels and Triple H had multiple oppurtunities too do it and they wanted Take too win those matches having Punk who is a good wrestler but just not as good as those two were end the streak would just be bad…Punk’s legacy is already cemented

    Undertaker don’t need to wrestle this year. They can easily have him make a return at Wrestlemania this year. Let’s say Lesnar or John Cena who ever, wins their match. After the match Undertaker comes out and challenges them to a match at Wrestlemania 30. I think it’ll be a moment, just by simply not having Taker on the WM card and just when you don’t expect, the lights goes out and then comes the gong. The crowd in the stadium will go crazy. Maybe giving him another full year off will help. I’m hoping he can give us one more match and truly it does not have to be this year.

    With Undertaker gone, Punk will be out of a big match. They could easily make a tag match where we see CM Punk teams with Lesnar to take on Triple H and maybe HBK (who comes back just for this match, or hell just bring back Stone Cold for the match). Either way I think WWE is in place to fix this easily if Undertaker could not wrestle for this year and rightfully they should not force him or risk it by having him wrestle in pain. Which I am sure he has done many times.

    This is what happens when you play the wait and see game with Taker. Sorry to upset anyone but he should have retired after he faced HBK the second time. I don’t see the need to feed Punk to him. Not to mention not a fan of the streak. Am I supposed to believe he doesn’t try as hard in his other matches? (prior to his do nothing schedule now). Just let him go out on top now and not give a bad performance due to his health. He deserves all the respect he gets for his almost unmatched contributions to the industry but since when does the “pass the torch” rule not apply to him. He is the only one with complete creative control yet no one comes down on him for not putting over the younger talent. I know he’s a legend but even monster ego maniac HH put guys over.       Actually, the people Undertaker puts over has eventually crashed and burned, such as Maven and Jeff Hardy. I think he might like doing it anymore. I also understand what you are saying, but The Undertaker’s legacy is so powerful, from a rating stand point and money drawing stand point, that the way it is played out makes it a delicate situation. It will take a fresh superstar worthy of beating him to do the story justice because ideally that guy will hold an accolade more powerful than any championship, which WWE has hyped it up to be. Also, this guy will probably be labeled as the greatest heel of all time so that could be a way to go if they wanted to solidify a heel or a heel turn.

    What about putting Punk in a Triple Threat match with Rock and Cena? I would prefer Triple Threats not main eventing the biggest show of the year, but in this case, it might work. Rock is Rock, Cena is Cena and putting Punk in there would not only be a reward for kicking so much ass in the last two years, but also be a truly starmaking decision. After all, if the Miz can be in the main event of a Wrestlemania, then Punk sure as hell can. Also, Rock, Cena and Punk makes far more sense than mixing HHH and Michaels with Benoit, and we all saw how well that turned out matchwise.

    1. Limited time in the ring for Taker
    2. Kane is usefull again. Finally.
    3. It is believable that the streak ends (1-2-3- on Kane – Streak ends without The Undertaker ever getting pinned)
    4. They don’t need to find a new opponent for Punk
    5. Without Kane, Daniel Bryan is free to compete for World Heavyweight Championship
    6. (BEST OF ALL) NO LESNAR VS HHH

    I don’t think Punk should do a match with Taker, unless according to a RUMOR, that Taker personally selected Punk to END THE STREAK.

    On the other hand, I think going for 21-0 or even 20-1 is overkill. He could retire. The WWE has to go on without Undertaker and WrestleMania has to go on without the streak as an attraction.

    Now provided Taker skips WM 29, put Punk in a triple threat with Cena and Rock to put more suspense in the match-up and if its booked for a Cena win, it’ll be cathartic that he was able to best the two guys he’s never beaten.

    I think 20-0 is a nice number to end on. If he wants to go 21-0 he should wait like 10 years and make a surprise return winning the match under a Legend’s contract, sort of like Steamboat did with Jericho.

    And honestly, do we really want to see a guy as talented as Punk lose 3 PPV’s in a row?

    for the first time i think this site is talking shit, yeas i am a huge Taker fan always have been and will be…..2 months away fro WM29, there arent many matches to change up if he indeed wanted to wrestle CM Punk, wonder why he lost the title, because of a huge oppurtunity to wrestle the Deadman at WM….tAKER PULLED UP WELL AFTER HIS MATCH WITH HHH, HIS WOULD HAVE HAD MORE THEN A YEAR OFF, FUCK WHAT THIS SITE SAYS, HE WILL BE AT MANIA, ?     If his health is on the line i would leave him out of this WM and have him come back for the 30th, Wrestle his brother Kane and announce his retirement, could even do something special with kane and paul bearer as a send off (Maybe Bearer controlling Kane again then the brothers of destruction unite after the match to finish bearers hold on them forever. I would love to see Kane Vs Taker one last time! The fact that he missed this WM could actually help the build up for the 30th.

    If he doesn’t do 29 which is understandable, I’m surprised nobody brought up if it would be interesting if he did his final match at the 30th anniversary of wrestlemania. Think about it for 21 manias he’s given us great memories. I think to go out on that note is better than anything else.
