Chris Jericho Talks About Why He Never Signed With TNA, Chris Benoit

In the final part of a 2 part conversation this week on MLW Radio, available right now at MLW Radio, WWE superstar Chris Jericho joined Konnan to discuss to discuss a variety of topics, including why he’s never worked for TNA. Konnan brought up negotiations Jericho had with TNA in the past and Jericho had this to say when asked why he ultimately never signed with TNA:

“The main reason is that I always wanted to work for Vince McMahon ever since I was a kid. I’ve never worked for anybody else since I stepped through the doors in August of 1999 and I never will work for anyone else. I don’t want to go to Japan. I don’t want to go to Mexico for shots. I don’t want to go work in TNA. I’m a WWE guy. That’s the way it’s always going to be.

“I’m sure TNA is a great company to work for. I’m sure you can do really well there or make some great money or whatever. It doesn’t matter to me. I work for the big leagues. There’s no reason for me to go anywhere else.”

Jericho also discussed changes in how concussions are treated in the industry and how it’s shaped his views on Chris Benoit.

“I was like everybody else. Shocked. A sense of ‘what the [expletive]‘ happened. Denial. Betrayal. How can he do this?

“I look back at it now, and I was really close with him, but he got considerably stranger and stranger the last six months of his life. I was like, what’s with this guy? What’s wrong with him? And now I know the reason why. It’s because his brain got worse and worse.”

MLW Radio is available for free at and on iTunes (search: MLW Radio), along with episodes featuring MVP, The Ultimate Warrior, Teddy Hart, Billy Corgan and many others.

Definitely read that wrong the first time, thought it said “Chris Benoit Talks..” o_O

Big leagues for now because of people like Jericho himself. Once Jericho, Rock, HHH, Brock, Undertaker leave, and super Cena beats The Rock, ratings will sink. They fucked up with Cm Punk. He’s been on a losing streak as of late. WWE needs to realize, making everything about Cena is whats ruining their company. No one has any credibility, or balls. Austin said it best, some of them just want to be on TV. Cm Punk is the only guy who speaks up in reality.

    • G.I.R.L.

Yep, keeping the focus on one person is what screwed the promotion. What if something happened to Cena? The company would be in dire trouble. They don’t work on building each character individually or allowing each performer to bring their own ideas into the mix; unfortunately, many of the guys don’t open their mouths. Jim Ross once said something along the lines of why stay in a place holding you back if it’s making you unhappy when you can find success elsewhere.

      • that guy over there

actually, if cena got hurt the wwe would be better because they would have no other choice than to make new superstars, and we wouldnt be having cena come out every monday night saying those stupid retarded unfunny jokes of his

    • jccox01

Why do everyone single one of you guys blame it on Cena? Cena has been on a big losing streak for what? the past year or 2? They didn’t fuck up with cm punk, punk is at the highest point in his career, he’s facing undertaker at Wrestle Mania. It’s not Cena’s fault today’s superstars lack charisma and talent. WWE has changed, they don’t have a thousand attractions such as benoit, jericho, rock, austin, hogan, edge, team 3d, etc. Ratings wont sink because Cena beats the rock after the rock beat Cena last year, it will only make raw get more viewers because people want to see what happens next.

      • Don

Cena has beat everyone there is to beat. Everyone! The minute after he lost to The Rock, he beat Brock. Lost one lousy match to Johnny. Buried Ziggler in singles competition. Got screwed 1 time by AJ. No one has any credibility anymore. Some of you fail to realize Vince and the writers are still making everything about one man. When that one man gets hurt or is gone, its going to be problems.

        • X

Then that’s WWE’s problem. I could care less personally..

        • jccox01

I know it’s Vince’s problem but half the people here always say It’s Cena’s fault that he gets all the pushes and stuff, Vince has made him the cash cow and the creative sucks so bad these past few years along with the superstar talent that Vince has no choice but to push Cena to the very top. Yeah you got Ziggler, Punk, Daniel and other superstars but not many superstars can catch and hold the attention of viewers like Cena can. Like it or not you get behind Cena whether it’s cheering or booing him he draws ratings and gets publicity for the WWE. WWE isn’t what it used to be as much as we all wish it was but it’s not.

          • SolomonGrundy

Because Cena is the face of the company doesn’t mean he is the best performer there is. There IS a lot of talent in WWE right now who can perform at the same or higher level as Cena does, but it’s Cena who is the decision of the company. Today’s superstars DO NOT I reapeat DO NOT lack charisma and talent, the WWE staff are the reason they are not able to show their charisma on TV.

          • Vince

Finally someone who gets it!! The problem is that you’re telling the truth and the IWC doesn’t want to hear it. Everything starts and stops at the top, and that’s Vince McMahon. Vince controls who’s going to be the top guy, not Cena.

        • Randy

How did he bury Ziggler? Didn’t Ziggler win at TLC? If anything, Cena is raking in money for the WWE. You see all the parents taking their little children and have them wearing Cena’s merch. Not everything bad happens because of Cena. If Punk was in Cena’s position and vice versa, the IWC would be going crazy for Cena. I understamd Cena is definitely the best in the ring, by far; but he probably brings in the most money for WWE today. :/

    Chris Benoit is my hero.

  • Kenneth Anderson Jr.

Jericho: Why didn’t i sign with TNA? Cause TNA sucks!

  • Progress_Now

lmao I never thought I’d see “TNA” and “make money” in the same sentence. leave it to the Jeritroll to come up with it.

and speaking of concussions, there’s still plenty guys in WWE who used to receive tons of chairshots to the head. maybe they should get checked out. Triple H plenty of chairshots, Austin, Taker, Vince, Jericho, Kane, Dwayne. they should really get their heads checked just in case.
