Detailed Update On The Possibility Of AJ Styles Leaving TNA In The Near Future

As noted earlier today, there is a rumor circulating that could potentially be leaving TNA in the near future. The rumor stems from the fact that Styles’ contract with the company is set to expire next month.

Normally, especially in WWE, high-profile talents are re-signed to new deals before the expiration of their existing contracts. There have been cases in the past where TNA has allowed a top stars’ contract to expire before attempting to lock them up in a new deal. Examples of that situation include Bobby Roode, Devon, and most notably, Samoa Joe.

What is interesting in this case is the fact that AJ Styles, more than pretty much anyone in the company, is viewed as a “TNA guy.” Having worked for the company since its’ inception in 2002, Styles has remained loyal to the company, despite past offers from WWE and other high-dollar offers around the globe.

It’s also interesting to note that TNA has allegedly put forth very little effort into locking Styles up into a new deal. In doing so, the company is putting itself in a position that would potentially allow WWE to enter the picture and scoop up Styles before TNA finalizes a new agreement.

As we reported earlier today, a post appeared on the official Facebook page of Styles, which poses the question, “Where do fans want AJ Styles to be? TNA? WWE? ? Japan? Lots of options. Tough decisions.”

We will post an update on this situation as soon as more information becomes available.

TNA has dropped the ball on pretty much everything else in the past few months… So of course they’re dropping the ball on re-signing one of their biggest names.

  • pwnez

If these rumors are true then yes, Styles should try to go to WWE regardless of whether he gets along with everywhere there or not. I wouldn’t be surprised if Styles ended up leaving due to the talent cuts that have been going on.

    • yrabadi

He should leave due to the mishandling of his character. Geez. TNA has killed AJ Styles over the past few years. They’re wasting his talent.

    • SOBI

Yeah but since he has never actually been in wwe that would make for a very strong dependence on the character/gimmick wwe give him cause they won’t mention TNA thats for sure
I’m sure they’ll say he is from the independent circuit or Japan but still
AJ styles would become a great eventual WHC cause he won’t ever be wwe champ thats for sure

      • Forceton Banfodder

Actually Styles wrestled on Sunday Night Heat years ago. He was offered a contract then and turned it down.

        • SOBI

I didn’t know that but what I meant was that he has no name in the wwe (bigname) I mean like Hardy,Angle, Booker , Stiener or even the dudleys for that matter

          • Forceton Banfodder

And because of that, the chances are that even if he did sign with WWE, he’d be forced into NXT. So I don’t see him going to WWE.

          • Forceton Banfodder

And because of that, the chances are that even if he did sign with WWE, he’d be forced into NXT. So I don’t see him going to WWE.

          • SOBI

            Yes exactly

    • Ouch

Does WWE want AJ Styles though? I mean, he’s a brilliant wrestler but he’s more than likely going to go back ‘home’ after his run, so they can’t put a title on him. Its awful that they put both titles on hardy and now he’s a TNA wrestler, as different company world titles add so much leverage to the situation. I personally wouldn’t trust Styles to stay.

    • Pay_Per_View

Yea but he would still be better then Bryan with triple the potential.

  • brad

I honestly don’t believe that styles will leave tna, he has been there since the start, but if the rumors are true it would be nice to see him in the wwe.

    • yrabadi

That is of course assuming WWE would even want him. They have so much upcoming talent on their hands right now… Not sure they’d even want him.

      • brad

Ture but like I said I really don’t even think he is going to leavee tna
        Sent from my LG phone

        • yrabadi

Yeah I think its doubtful as well.

  • JJ

If Styles leaves TNA for WWE, they’d stick him with some gimmick. He cannot be Phenomenal in WWE because it’s too closely linked to the Phenom. They’d ruin him

    • yrabadi

Brian Danielson came into WWE as the American Dragon, but he found something else and he’s a success without having to rely on his former nicknames. Styles has talent. He would, at the very least, be a player in the mid-card scene at WWE.

    • Johnson

BS. If AJ Styles has what it takes on the mic , has that it factor, charisma … the whole package… WWE will find a way to make him big.

  • Solidus

Still taking this with a big grain of salt. It could be his way making sure tna remembers to renew his contract and not let him slip into the background.

  • John Miller

    AJ vs Daniel Bryan
    AJ vs Cm Punk
    AJ vs Randy Orton
    AJ VS Dolph Ziggler
    F**k yes.

    • Marko

Try to not bash me for this but I would love to see AJ vs Cena.

      • Chris Savage

no no no no no no

cena doesn’t have to be in every effing main event

        • Johrdann Miller

          shut up.

          • Chris Savage

aj vs daniel bryan would be a better match by far and you know it. aj vs punk wold be amazing. the only thing cena would do would bury aj.

          • Jacob Rael

no cena always puts on good matches when in the ring with talented people

      • Johrdann Miller

        so would everyone man.

  • SomeInternetGuy

With the Shield, Ziggler, Bryan, Barrett, and more, WWE has too many guys trying to get over; some are new and some have been around for a few years. Like it or not, he’d be placed at the WWE performance center and have to work his way to the main card which might take a minimum of one year if he’s a good boy and doesn’t ruffle feathers. The only thing I see for him in the WWE is forming a tag team with Sami Zayn and both get called up to the main roster and help out the tag division. As a single’s wrestler he’d be f**ked. AJ Styles is going to get lost in the card especially at 36 years old. He’s better off jumping to Japan (I heard a boom period is beginning over there) and collect some good checks until he retires.

    • yrabadi

You have some very valid points, Carlton.

  • Mr_DJ

The match possibilities…Ambrose, Rollins, Punk, Bryan, Cesaro, Ziggler…BAH GAWD KANG!

  • VJGraziano

If WWE did sign him, they better trademark his name before TNA does. I would absolutely hate to see AJ go to WWE and be forced to take on a different name. As far as a gimmick goes, hopefully he can have a gimmick similar to Bryan…just a guy who likes to wrestle, and then see where his charisma takes him from there.

I wouldn’t mind seeing AJ in WWE, but i’d prefer he goes back to TNA, AS LONG as they freaking give him the push he deserves. Him and Samoa Joe are being so underutilized its disgusting. Both deserve to be champ, not Hardy, not Ray…Joe and AJ!

  • DarkWolf

He should leave, because his done everything in TNA. So his better jumping to the WWE and start fresh

  • Forceton Banfodder

I always thought Styles had said he had no interest in working for WWE… So if he’s not re-signed by TNA then I would expect to see him in ROH or NJPW before WWE.

If he changes his mind and goes to WWE, I’ll be more than a little shocked.

    • Hershey Maxwell Barber

Same. I’ve always thought that too.

    • Adam-Michael

I always thought it was the other way around. WWE have never offered Styles anything to my knowledge so I don’t know where this has suddenly come from by reporters. WHy on earth would you want to stay in a place where you are not getting paid and hardly being used and the company on the whole is just sinking and losing money and having to do everything they can to cut talent and ppvs in attempts just to keep the lights in the building on. AJ Styles is a fool if he stays there, there is loyalty but then there is also stupidity.

    • Pozessed

I think he would be good in Japan, I would love to see a feud between him and Kazuchika Okada or Tanahashi.

  • vince mcmahon

Come to WWE AJ! ITS BEST FOR BUSINESS!

  • omega riddler

Even with AJ Styles TNA is not worth watching, I mean Bully Ray vs Magnus. I don’t want to see that. AJ should go to WWE while he has the chance because if he stays with TNA, it will get to the point he is too old for WWE

  • Kuntry2TheCore

I think if this is legit, AJ will go to ROH. idk, he seems like a good fit over there.

    • ballz

not really due to there budget with njpw they have a working agreement but there salary is real medium at best. one of the reasons charlie haas quit and claudio and and hero left. aswell as chris daniels.

      • Kuntry2TheCore

        Good point…

        • ballz

          thanks have a great day.

  • ballz

i will believe it when i see it. Period

  • Joe Hundley

They seem to have actively buried him. First with the emo gimmick and then almost no tv time.

  • Scott Kinnard

While I would love to see AJ in WWE, if he did sign with WWE, I think he would get buried. I think he would get a run as IC or US champion but that’s as far as he would get. He is better off in TNA.

  • Hershey Maxwell Barber

Defiantly don’t think he will jump ship to WWE (money can change people though) but if he did, I see him getting buried. Maybe a hot initial run, but nothing after that. They are pushing smaller guys these days a la Bryan, but I just don’t think it would pan out in the long run.

  • Tookie

    He’s not going anywhere. ……………….

  • Johrdann Miller

I’ll say it again, GO to the WWE aj before its to late.

    • Chris Savage

and stay the gell away from fruity pebbles

      • Jacob Rael

        that is so old

  • Aiii

Wonder what they’ll name him, obviously he can’t remain AJ as they already have one of those and I can’t see WWE changing AJ Lee’s name for AJ Styles heh.

  • DEX

AJ… call Triple H.. just call him. Gambling his chances with WWE is better than settling for that sh*t hole TNA.
I’d like Triple H to recruit Styles, James Storm, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, and Gunner, and the entire knockout division! …. all five of them! They would all be better off and be getting a bigger paycheck in WWE.

  • Marshall Mathers

who the H3ll is aj styles?

      My cousin three times removed

      • Marshall Mathers

so what your saying is he sucks?

          Basically Shady

        • bri

No he doesn’t, He’s a good talent. He’s just been used poorly by TNA in the last few years.

  • Adam-Michael

AJ Styles has finally realised TNA is dying and is only going to continue its decline. If he has any sense he will get off that sinking ship ASAP and go anywhere else where he will actually get paid and not be used as a complete joke

    • bri

I think many relies that TNA is willing to pay Hogan and Bitchoff tons of money while trying to pay the actual workers next to nothing. God forbid you get hurt while in their ring. They fire you and not pay your medical bills.

He’d probably make more money working the indies like Colt Cabana.

  • WCWPunk

Unless you once worked for WWE who currently works for TNA, I seriously doubt this by any means. Everytime a top talent in TNA ponders the question of “Should I go to the WWE?” They do it to get the attention of the IWC, only just to resign and stay loyal to Dixie Carter. Samoa Joe did it. James Storm did it. Bobby Roode did it. To see AJ Styles actually leave TNA for WWE, I’ll believe it once I actually see it. At this point, I doubt he’s leaving.

aj is the lifeblood of tna. i don’t know how good or bad the wwe would use him so im worried about him joining the wwe. this could be a smart move by waiting it out so tna panics and offers him a huge contract that they probably couldn’t afford anyway. aj does have a tough decision to make. dont rule out japan either they will use and pay him well but he would have to live in japan so a very tough decision indeed.

  • nafant

i love how it has that link to read about wwe entering contract neg. with styles but than after you click it its nothing like that just the exact same story on pwinsider fail.
