Exclusive: WWE Cuts NXT’s Budget, NXT Releases Coming Soon

nxt

Last week, WWE released 11 people (Brodus Clay, Drew McIntyre, Jinder Mahal, Evan Bourne and others) in an effort to reduce company spending. Now, we can confirm that NXT is the next target of these cost cutting measures.

A well-placed source at NXT has confirmed to us that NXT’s budget has already been cut in terms of production and post-production. The talent roster is about to be evaluated, with a number of cuts set to take place in the next month.

WWE is “staggering” the widespread budget cuts so the company appears to be fiscally responsible to Wall Street and doesn’t set off a widespread panic internally.

Backstage News On WWE Releasing 11 People

  • Matt Gallagher

That sucks. Good bye Mojo Rawley hopefully

    • Yofiel Malachi Yacov

      I don’t get released. I STAY RELEASED.

(I like mojo though even though he sucks)

      • Matt Gallagher

        He should change his moveset

    • MachoViper

      I hate his belly.

      • Matt Gallagher

Same that’s the defensive lineman gut

    • Forceton Banfodder

I like his energy, but everything else about him bores me to death. His look, his moveset, etc, It just doesn’t vibe with the energy he puts out.

      • Matt Gallagher

        His finisher is god awful

  • B. T.

There’s a bad move. They could save money by getting rid of most of the creative team. They’re useless anyways.

    • Patrick

      100% agreed!

    • scott

and the useless talent for that matter

    • satishwarne708

      hell yeah

  • Dajoosesloos

They should be cutting talent anyways if they don’t have a place for them. More doesn’t always mean better. Look at the acquisition of talent when they bought wcw and ecw. I look at that as the end of wrestling as we knew it. So much talent made creative lackadaisical and now look what we have.

  • Stephen

They keep saying its a cost cutting measure, but really, WWE can’t sign new talent without letting some old ones go. They only need so many. This has been happening in wrestling for over half a century. The difference is that before, promoters could trade wrestlers, where as now, leaving WWE is not a parallel move, it’s a significant pay-cut.

  • http://www.sescoops.com Undertaker316

so we have the best show on wwe right that has great wrestling and where wrestlers talent are used correctly so lets cut the budget of that show

    • B. T.

If it’s not a Vince and Dunn creation. it’s going to end up being killed.

    • Fantasma Del Guapo

Remember when John Morrison and Evan Bourne would pull off match of the year candidate-types with Matt Striker being really entertaining on the announce table for WWECW, only for the WWE then deciding to hose that beyond recognition? Same thing.

      • http://www.sescoops.com Undertaker316

nxt is different because its their developmental show so there’s no chance they’re going to cancel it

        • Fantasma Del Guapo

Yeah not cancel it, just hose it down, divert some attention away because Raw and Smackdown need to be the hot shows.

          • Yofiel Malachi Yacov

Lol SD that’s a good one

          • Fantasma Del Guapo

            Dang…you’re right…

…hey at least the time Cena and Harper had a fight there was as good as any!

          • Yofiel Malachi Yacov

Ambrose and Bray was good to but SD is on a Friday which means it just has to be present. There aren’t a lot of shows that are good that air on friday nights

          • Fantasma Del Guapo

Not if you like boxing (Friday Night Fights w/ Teddy Atlas on ESPN) or MMA ( AXStv Fights).

          • Yofiel Malachi Yacov

Those don’t draw cause its not big bouts.SD always gets the highest rated show for Friday shows. That move was done by design. Put it on Thursday SD would have to compete with a littany of shows especially from the USA network and both parties don’t want that. I miss SD on Thursday though

      • brad

I will never understand why they let all three of them go, I mean striker was a great announcer as well as a talented in ring talent when he needed to be they just gave him a seriously whack gimmick. Morrison was very talented in the ring, his mic work needed a little work but honestly I think that they mainly released because of that whole Trish stratus mix up and as for Bourne, well he was a lot of fun to watch and could pull of great matches as well as be a strong mid carder or tag teamer. however he never really got the chance he deserved and when he got injured that was all she wrote they didn’t really know what to do with him at that point so they released him which in my opinion was ridiculous. I mean they could’ve at least had him come back and pair up with like mysterio, Kingston or maybe Kidd.

  • Bob

    Oh well it’s just life

  • Yofiel Malachi Yacov

Up first…..cj Parker. Sorry but that’s what I feel is coming

  • Nickfab88

How about they stop throwing millions of dollars at the part-time hasbeens.

    • http://www.sescoops.com/ Mr 561

uhh like Brock Lesnar and The Rock? O_o

      • Yofiel Malachi Yacov

The rock is a proven draw. Brock moves tickets but probably not at the rate to justify his wwe salary. There’s nothing wrong with part timers as long they sell tickets, merch, subscriptions, etc to justify the price tag

    • Bon Crue Fadley

I dont think Hogan is getting Millions of Dollars. he may be getting a high six Figure Legends deal. Vince isnt gonna give someone who makes part time appearance a 7 to 8 figure deal. are you smoking something

      • MDD81

Lesnar will be making big, BIG money .

        • Bon Crue Fadley

and Lesnar is also under A regular Talent contract unlike Hogan is.

  • Michael Hart

well if they have to cut someone from nxt just cut mojo rowley or any one of those random background people who accompany adam rose.I have a bad feeling that enzo might get cut.

    • PushZigglerDamnit

There is no way Enzo is getting cut.

      • Michael Hart

I don’t want him to go, he is just in a situation like evan bourne was.

    • Yofiel Malachi Yacov

Cut parker, aiden English and hate to say it but Sylvester leforte. Hes the oldest developmental talent there and it doesn’t look like they are going to bring him up any time soon

  • Buzzard Follower

nxt is the best thing going on in wwe if they have to make cuts to like pyrotechnics and things like that fina i just hope they dont cut some of the great nxt talent

    • Forceton Banfodder

I could live without ever hearing Aiden English sing again.

      • Buzzard Follower

        i enjoy the gimmick somewhat

        • Forceton Banfodder

Sorry, but the guy can’t even hold a note. I might endure it a little better if he was even remotely talented… Albeit, I get that’s part of his gimmick being talentless and full of himself, but if even part of the audience is anything like me and they’re hitting FF or Mute when he comes out and “sings” …That’s not good heat, nor will it ever be good heat.

          • Buzzard Follower

his singing sucks but i enjoy the gimmick youre right though if he could hold a note it be better

      • Yofiel Malachi Yacov

Agreed. Aiden had never been good. I remember him jobbing to bray Wyatt when the character debuted. The guy is ok but not wwe good. This is the major leagues.

  • Forceton Banfodder

Stupid and self-defeatist. Considering that besides for the PPV’s, NXT is the only other reason I bother to keep the Network. And I’m still not completely sold that I care $9.99 a month enough to want to watch every PPV considering now it’s like having 2 back to back 3 Hour RAWs.

    • Bushwald Sexyface

Agreed. To me, NXT was the best thing currently about the WWE product. Sad to see this happening.

    • askbillmitchell

Only speaking for myself. I was on the fence about parting with $9.99 a month but I have to say it was a good investment. Being able to relive the past (especially when Raw bores me to death) and watching the NXT shows have made the investment well worth the price. Now if they plan to up the subscription fee which I fear they will just before they make the Monday Night War documentary available, I may re-evaluate the value / cost trade off but as for now I am enjoying it.

  • raVen

Proof that you can put on better shows with less money. NXT is the best wrestling in the US this last year

are wwe getting ready for another failed multi million dollar Linda senate run?

  • G.I.R.L.

Noooo! Just release most of the main roster! NXT has too many future key players.

  • Fantasma Del Guapo

Do people like Vince or Trips ever get ticked off when rumors like these get leaked online? B/c if you told me they did I’d actually believe it, and find it hilarious!

  • tnicols

i agree; creative needs to be cut

  • Marko

Crap, Corey Graves is going to be released, hope not.

  • Triple H’s Shovel

Future NXT releases = Future TNA ‘stars’.

    • I’ve Lost My Smile

are you saying WWE developmental talent are = to TNA main event talent?

      • Triple H’s Shovel

Jokingly, yes I am saying the ones who will be released could be their top talent.

        • I’ve Lost My Smile

          lol awesome

        • Ninjafitz

Stone Cold was released from WCW and he became the face of WWF……A lot of great NFL players were released from some other team before becoming great in another place….

  • RadicalRhys

I hope the production value doesn’t change too much, NXT has possibly one of the best one in wrestling right now. A lot better than when it was FCW before, or even OVW then and now.

  • Dixie Carter

Exactly just can the train wreck NXT. Like how many people are in the seats? 11people on a good day. I was saying it all along, NXT is a flop and WWE is losing money with that bingo hall production!

    • WTF

LOL!!!!! 11 People is more than enough than the people in Slammaversity!!!!!
      NXT > IMPACT

      • Dixie Carter

Did you compare our PPV to the NXT crowd? I guess you are still angry that WWE has money and stock issues and have given FLOP NXT like no budget because they’re going down the sh11er

        • WTF

No im still angry that you destroyed TNA!!!!!!!!

        • Triple H’s Shovel

Dixie just shut up. More people watch NXT than they do TNA. Pretty soon WWE will be releasing their bottom dwellers in NXT so it looks like you’ll be adding a few ‘top stars’ soon.

          • Dixie Carter

Shut up yourself. Sorry that you feel the need to bring myself down to build your ego. Just like the real HHH builds his ego buy butchering the talent he works with.

TNA is miles better than that bingo hall of a promotion NXT. WWE looks a right sight having 75thousand for Wrestlemania…then having 11people for NXT. I wonder why the stock went down with a big company like WWE running shows from bingo halls. Y’all will make Double J’s promotion look like the Superbowl, haha!

    • MDD81

Well, they sell out every taping if that helps.

      • Dixie Carter

They don’t sell out. The production crew take granny and grandad down to the show…and they sit in the audience before and play bingo…then they quickly put the NXT ring up and put on the show…before the medican wears off.

  • Corey Schlueter

Maybe, the company should return as a private company. Look at what happened to Blackberry/RIM after it became a public stock.

  • nelson916

as far as im concerned NXT shouldnt take the blame for some stupid creative team that WWE has and some high WWE officials that made stupid decisions.

  • GN-0015

I hope my boy Baron Corbin can avoid the chop.

  • Xx_New_Order_xX

I hope that the Hyped guy in gone!

  • NewAgeOutlaw

Just hope they don’t release Cory Graves

  • satishwarne708

This is ridiculous I meant When you cut all these losers from the main roster the NXT guys take their place, why on earth would you cut the NXT guys at the same time?

  • I’ve Lost My Smile

Not sure why most people are screaming the sky is falling, more likely than not, they are releasing guys and gals from NXT that we haven’t seen on TV yet. And just last week it was stated they were bringing in new people for try-outs. NXT will always have cuts as they are developmental some people just wont work out for them.

Plus it’s already rumored that Steen, Devitt, Kenta and Mack will be coming to NXT by the end of summer so nothing for us to worry about it if comes true.

    • I’ve Lost My Smile

      Prince Devitt and Kevin Steen
