Jim Ross Blog: CM Punk & The Rock’s RAW Promo, Cesaro’s Potential & More

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

Antonio Cesaro’s Potential: @AntonioCesaro delivering his finisher, the Neutralizer, to a behemoth the size of Khali was a jaw dropper. By the time that WrestleMania rolls around, I’m thinking that Cesaro will be a significant player on April 7. Cesaro is the type of in ring talent that would have been coveted in virtually any era and would never have had to look for work in the territory days.

Doing A Podcast or Writing A Book: No, I have no plans to do a podcast. Firstly, I have little to no technical expertise and I’m not a fan of most podcasts. The podcasts that I see promoted that are more than 15 or 20 minutes long would challenge me to listen. Things could change but that’s my plan at this time.

Same goes for writing an autobiography. I do want to do a book someday but I haven’t been able to get into the proper mindset to do all the research necessary to write something other than fluff loaded with inaccuracies. Plus, the book market right now is soft or so I’m told. I want to have the tools and support system in place to write a great book and not just something to generate a pay day.

The Rock & CM Punk’s Confrontation On RAW: The closing segment involving @TheRock and Punk was the unofficial kickoff to the road to WrestleMania in my estimation which will be preceded by a stop in Phoenix for the Royal Rumble and in New Orleans for the Elimination Chamber. I felt the chemistry between the two stars and their verbal interaction had an Attitude Era feel.

Most resonating statement in the final segment, in my view, was Punk saying that he was “Going to kick your ass” to Rock. That’s what it’s still all about…kicking one’s ass.

Punk cut the better promo in my opinion. I loved the whole “Your arms are too short to box with God” line and “I’m going to kick your ass”. Punk has the whole title reign to prove his significance too. I really hope these guys have segments like this a lot more, loved every second of it all.

i agree, mainly because Rocks promos are basically all the same: “catchphrase, a few insults, catchphrase, a few insults, catchphrase, etc.”

last years rock concert was the only promo in years that did not went the same schedule. Punk at least says whats on his mind and lets the audience choose if it is good or bad promo …

      • Pozessed

The Rock’s promos are very good and are as he says, electrifying. But I’d rather see a lot more truth and valid points than insults which is why I liked Punk more.

Hmm I wonder what solomonster thinks of that :p

    • Forflair

Solomonster is a complete hack. We’ll have to wait until he reads other sites posts before we hear what “he” thinks.

      • James

F off troll the Solomonster is the best thing in the wrestling business today.

  • Goldberg

    Cesaro finisher sucks !

  • Bro88

Punk definitely had the better promo but Rock did good as well. They both played off each other well even though Rock stuck with his basic one liners and insults, but thats what the Rock does, he somehow gets the crowd hyped up no matter how many times he uses his catchphrases, he just has IT in the charisma department. Punk on the other hand was so serious and calling the crowd out on everything perfectly and when they actually fell for it it made what Punk was saying gold.

this promo in my opinion was better than all of the cena/ rock promos combined. And the punk eye crackhead comment was hilarious. Too bad the Rock couldnt get the fans to chant that instead of cookie puss (PG). I’m wondering if there will be a triple threat at westlemania with cena involved. I sense the WWE will throw their poster boy in there somehow. Lets see if Lesnar will get involved in this match at the Royal Rumble…..than it will be Rock vs Brock

Punk looked really small, out of shape and just overall looked out of the league of The Rock. Dwayne Johnson looked like a real superhero who would fuck you up if u said the wrong thing. no one is scared of CM Punk, the whole “im gonna kick your ass” statement was just laughable. rock looked like he was about go kayfabe and crack his jaw. cena, cesaro, barrett could beat up punk if they really threw fists. punk’s baggy eyes look like he takes uppers and barely rests, basically looked like a druggie next to the Rock

Exactly man.. I been saying this for the past 2 months. Punk is going to look like a joke next to the Rock at the RR if dont put on some serious muscle mass. Alot of people ..mostly them iwc smark people think muscle mass doesn’t matter but it does. Look how small Triple H looked when he started, then he got pushed to the mainevent scene and started fighting with guys like Taker, Rock , Austin etc… and he became a truck.. Austin , Hart, Kurt Angle, Orton, Edge etc… they all became huge as they became main players. It’s that phsyical transition, it helps in a big way if people see it in real time and you start to take them even more seriously… That’s why Punk looks like a joke, nevermind the fact that his title run past the Summer was forced, but he still looks like a skinny upstart. Rock vs. Punk.. It looks like a damn mismatch !

he will still kick the rock’s ass, however i still believe that punk will drop the title at royal rumble

      • BrahmaBullRKO

In a real fight, having that much more muscle mass than your opponent would typically be a bad thing, given your opponent is a good fighter. Strength doesn’t (always) win fights; skills, speed, and endurance (usually) do. If you know that much, which everybody should, then a guy like Punk holding his own against a guy like Rocky is definitely believable.

        • Robert

Not true man, there’s a reason why they have weight classes in boxing, MMA, K1 etc… It’s not wise putting a smaller guy against a bigger guy. And these are sports with rules. Imagine a street fight.. Only way a smaller guy could take on a big dude is if he has military training. And if he has military training he would already have a significant amount of muscle mass anyway despite his height.

Rock calls him Cookie Puss, and crack eyed. Now we all know how fugly crackheads look. And Cookie Puss is an ugly ass ice cream cake (the ugliest ice cream cake I’ve ever seen in my life btw) from Carvel. If you haven’t seen it before and don’t believe me, look it up on wikipedia or google it. The Rock is giving him indirect messages about his looks.. Rock will likely get more specific in weeks to come, you know he don’t hold back
