Jim Ross Q&A: John Cena Heel Turn, Kurt Angle WWE Return, WMXXX Matches

The following are highlights from a recent Jim Ross Q&A update:

On overcoming Bells Palsy to continue his on-camera career: “Thanks for reading my blog and for the insight. None of us should allow something like Bells palsy define us.”

On why WWE has 30 men in the Royal Rumble when only a handful of guys could potentially win: “I think perhaps this matter is being a little over thought. A 30 man show biz presentation seems to work ok. Enjoy the presentation and the ride. The same could or can be said of many matches.”

On if he feels Kurt Angle could pass the WWE physical for a potential WWE return: “I’m not a doctor nor do I know the extent of Kurt’s physical ailments, so I have no way of answering your question with any degree of accuracy. I’d hope that he could.”

On if WWE should bring back the “squash match” formula: “I have no issues with enhancement matches. I’d much rather see long arcing story lines return. Longer term planning generally equates to greater success.”

On his guesses for possible WrestleMania XXX matches: “I see Batista vs his former teammate Orton & Lesnar attempting to beat The Streak. Just one man’s take on the matter.”

On if he feels WWE will ever turn John Cena heel: “I don’t see Cena turning. He sells too much merch and is a fantastic spokesman for WWE. There’s no reason to flip him.”

I think J.R. dug up that same exact Cena answer from one of his old 2008 interviews.

it’s actually amazing in how many different lines “in my ass” fits with the pitch of the speech…..lmao it rhymes.

the song should’ve ended with “cuz Stone Coooold said sooo!”

        Cause nothing’s changed

Ain’t that the truth, I mean he teased us with the doctor of thuganomics segment on raw and when he was rivaling with Dwayne, but we all knew that he wouldn’t end up doing it.

“I have no issues with enhancement matches. I’d much rather see long arcing story lines return. Longer term planning generally equates to greater success.”

      So would I.

As for the Cena thing: No, he’s never gonna turn; which is precisely why he’s so stale and will continue to be stale. There is no versatility/diversity in his character. He’s way too comfortable in his spot.

      • C-Snap

I think there’s still potential to keep him face but give him an extra dimension to his character. Whether that’s adding a vulnerability to his gimmick or putting him in an anti-authoritative position, I dunno. All I know is he’s obviously an intelligent guy who clearly doesn’t need to do anything new due to the position he’s in but as a performer he must want to change it up a bit.

        • Progressed_Now

being anti-authority wouldn’t work either because by now we all know how far up Vince’s ass he is. it just wouldn’t be believable.

        • G.I.R.L.

Cena recently alluded to not ever wanting to turn due to his comfortable spot and child fanbase.

And the anti-authority thing, like ProgNow mentioned, wouldn’t work; he’s far too high on the hierarchy. No one would believe it for a second. Cena as the “I’m Cena and therefore better than every other performer ever- arrogant heel turn would work much better. The anti-authority works best with guys like Punk (well, it did) and DBry.

Even Hulk Hogan went heel at one point. Why not Cena?

        • G.I.R.L.

Because his child fanbase is all he has. Him turning is too much of a gamble for him and WWE wouldn’t want to risk losing the money they make from his fanbase.

I truly wish they would’ve thought this out before making him Clark Kent.

I guess it also maybe a result of the era. Hogan turned Hollywood when wrestling was getting very edgy. It’s just not the same these days.

          • Aperture

I didn’t see it like that…Thanks for clearing that up,

            • Whatsupbb415

Also Cena is the only guy whose mainstream within WWE you don’t see Brock Lesner or Daniel Bryan on ESPN or local news Cena has the ability to do mainstream media because of his fanbase.

            • Aperture

Daniel Bryan was on ESPN last week. Well, he was mentioned multiple times. Cena’s fan base is mostly made up of children and mothers. The majority of people who watch ESPN are males over 18.

      • scott

I feel like if they decide to let Daniel Bryan be the guy they could afford to do it. Because Daniel Bryan has about 7 shirts out now. But they are just too reluctant to do so. But him being stale is what you get when all you have is 5 guys and everyone else is filler for the rest of the night.

Hey look even I turned heel. I guess when Cena is 80 then maybe he will consider it.

    • Bishop

Flip him :D if you know what i mean :D
