Kane Interview: Paul Bearer’s Influence On His Career, Daniel Bryan, Rock vs. Cena

WWE tag team champion recently spoke with NorfolkNavyFlagship.com to promote WrestleMania 29. Here are some highlights of what Kane said about:

How Paul Bearer Shaped His Career

He was an integral part of my early years as Kane. Without Paul Bearer, there wouldn’t have been a Kane, because he was such an important part of that story. Also, we traveled together for a few years, so it was a loss on a personal level for me as well. He came back and managed me in 2010 when I was World Champion, which was really cool – again against The Undertaker. Just like everyone else, I was a big fan of Paul Bearer and Percy Pringle, and all of the other names that he went by. It was a tough loss for everybody. We went to the viewing and what was really amazing was there were flowers there from all over the country – really, all over the world. It was nice to see an outpouring of affection from fans all over the place.

How He’s Lasted 18 Years In WWE:

Well, I work hard and I show up. I’ve been very fortunate that I haven’t gotten injured a bunch. I try to take care of myself. I think, too, my size gives me an advantage in some ways. I’m not always the guy getting knocked down a whole lot. My body probably hasn’t been punished as much as the other guys have been. I think it’s because I show up everyday and I try to do my best – give everything I have.

Comparing Daniel Bryan To His Previous Partners:

Well, he’s different – that’s for sure. What’s cool about Daniel Bryan is that I have now been able to do something that I’ve never been able to do before. Kane has always been sort of a dark character. With Daniel Bryan, we’ve been able to add a lot more lightheartedness, some humor and a lot of comedy. It works even better because it’s such a contrast from what I’ve normally done in the past. He’s completely different than any tag-team partner I’ve ever had. He’s a pain – a monumental pain to get along with. It’s like the odd couple, and somehow, I’ve become the voice of sanity. I don’t know how that’s happened – he’ll do that to you.

His Prediction for The Rock vs. John Cena:

I don’t, and who knows – John Cena made the mistake last year at the last stage of their match when he went to do Rock’s People’s Elbow and it cost him the match. I’m not saying that John Cena would take The Rock lightly, but I think this year he’ll be even more serious about it. I think The Rock is going to be in for more than he may have bargained for.

Kane deserves a lenghty title run Nuff said.He does it all. Kane vs Taker WM30 as champ & retires Taker (if he chooses 2 retire). Imagine old Taker attire vs old Kane attire that would be awesome.I recently watched Backlash 01 The Brothers of Destruction vs Power Trip. That shit brought back memories of Hunter fucking up his knee & Y2J doing the Walls of Jericho as Benoit applies the Crossface on the opponent.

He had one as of late from July 2010 to December 2010. In todays wrestling business a 5 month title run is a lengthy title run. I wouldn’t be against him having another though….but not as a comedy character. I may be wrong but its the same with Big Show. When they are babyface….you can’t imagine them beating anyone…..when they are heel….you can’t imagine them ever losing.

      • Lord Spliffmeister

2 be completely honest I started re-watching wrestling after Punk dropped the infamous promo so I didn’t c his title run.I just want Kane from the Attitude Era that was menacing without saying a word (bcuz frankly he didn’t speak or if he did he used the voice box). When Kane came back & fought Cena I was like ok he’s back!! But silly me that wasn’t the case -__- I swear they should use Bearers death 2 affect the him as a tag team.Make Team Hell No lose the titles & start feud.Kane goes over as a dominant force & D-Bry starts chasing the WWE Title or World Title.Maybe feuding with Ziggler if he cashes in @ Mania.

    • Pozessed

I agree, Kane has only had the WWE Championship for like 1 day? The guy deserves a decent run for all of the work he has done for the company.

      • Lord Spliffmeister

Yup I believe he lost 2 Austin on Raw after he won it.I want 2 c Kane have a lengthy title run with WWE strap not as the World Champ.I the Kane that lights ppl on fire & shocks ppls testicles ;-)

        • Pozessed

Definitely, I loved the monster Kane.. My favourite moment of his that will stick with me forever will be when he was going to have a match with Eric Bischoff. He was escorted to the ring by like 6 security guards all chained up and stuff, he goes into the ring and pyro is CRAZY HUGE! I would recommend watching it on youtube just to see how epic it is.

          • Lord Spliffmeister

I member that!! On the week prior he lost 2 HHH 4 the title & had to take off his mask (which IMO was the downfall of the character mainly bcuz the mystic was gone) revealing himself & then Choke Slamming RVD.Soon after he lit JR on fire I believe.Shane was a favorite of mine 4 his crazy stunts. On Backlash vs Big Show that big elbow drop.Vs Kurt Angle @ King of the Ring & vs Steve Blackman 2.U think he will ever be inducted in to the Hall of Fame? I mean he did get pops when he would come out & Shane O Mac chants as well.Plus he delivered memorable moments with his crazy ass stunts.

          • Lord Spliffmeister

I remember.Kane lost a title match on Raw 2 HHH n had to unmask choke slamming RVD.The unmasking was the downfall of his character imo it lost the mystic the character had.Him being X-Pac partner & their feud too was great.Especially after he made his return & took out all of DX.& the Radicalz.Plus 2 stay on topic he came back with none other than Bearer (R.I.P) back in 00. I can safely say I marked out!! haha

Maybe if we’re only talking about the WWE title, but he was the World Champion for like 5-6 months in 2010 and he had a longish feud with The Undertaker. He buried him alive, if I’m not mistaken.

        • Pozessed

Yeah I was talking about his WWE title reign. His WHC reign was actually one of the best for a long while I do remember it. I loved the promo Kane cut when he was out for “revenge” on the person who attacked Taker then it turned out to be him. “THERE WILL BE VENGEANCE!”

Kane has had over a 1000 matches on raw!!!
that is a big record. He has been very under appreciated. The guy is a Legend.
I hope he can have another title run before retiring (a proper one).
Also this interview he was in complete character

Kane is a legend! Unfortunately the “wannabe” WWE Fans don’t respect Glenn Jacobs as they respect Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Kane is in there EVERY DAY. He shows up in every f’n show and has put talents over him! He trully deserves more championship reigns and more respect than your WWE Champion The Rock, who brings it via satellite for his fans…

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/Caveman1006?feature=mhee Marvin B.

Lol Rock gotta do with this how? No need to bring him in every conversation.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002196281205 Kenneth Anderson Jr.

Who in the hell said we didn’t respect Kane? Kane is a legend in my eyes. An instant HOF. Quit bringing up Rock to try to get people to hate him for not being there. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS ALREADY! Damn.

      • http://www.facebook.com/Orfeaslivesforthemoment ?????? ??????????

The crowd goes nuts when The Rock enters in the ring. When Kane enters, the “wannabe” fans are like: “Uh ok here comes Kane…” I am not referring to you, and I believe that you don’t want to be considered a McMahon puppet ;)

    • http://twitter.com/AJCampbellNYG Andrew Campbell

This whole “Rock never shows up” argument is getting really old. You guys need to come up with something new already.

      • TheKillingMoon

The people’s ass is hands down, the weakest pathetic excuse of a WWE champion who no shows on several RAWs with Wrestlemania around the corner.

        • Kenard Johnson

Dude you have to remember he is not employed by wwe. He doesnt have to show up every week. Acting is his job. Wwe knew this when theu hired him they dont have a problem with that so why do u?

          • TheKillingMoon

I’ll tell you why. I hate The Rock. Never liked him from the time he started wrestling. Never was impressed with his stupid nursery rhyme chants that he calls promos. His wrestling ability is average to below average at best. The fact that that goofball McMahon decided to call him back and put the strap on him is a fucking disgrace. The people’s ass should just stick to his fucking job of trying to be an actor and never return again. He’s gotta be hands down, the absolute definition of an overrated piece of shit.

    • TheKillingMoon

You can’t compare Kane to the people’s ass. One can actually wrestle. The other is a piece of overrated shit.

      • http://www.facebook.com/Orfeaslivesforthemoment ?????? ??????????

At least someone who understands me!

  • Bigbadguns02

Kane, best big man of all time. 1st Ballot HOFer

  • HHH’s Swamp Ass

Some of the best Kane memories I have are his debut, the backstage promo with Rock and Hogan, and two of the returns he made in 2000 saving Rock, Mankind, Taker…. if you search for um you’ll find um.
