Kurt Angle Rips CM Punk: ‘He’s Not The Best In The World, He’s Not Even Top 10′

Kurt Angle is back at it again on Twitter. WWE Champion CM Punk calls himself the “Best in the World” – and Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine recently gave Punk their endorsement by ranking him at #1 on this year’s PWI Top 500 list.

Kurt Angle, a vocal critic of Punk in recent months, doesn’t agree with Punk being ranked at #1 – or him being in the top 10 at all. Angle tweeted on Tuesday:

    CM Punk isn’t even top 20. They just give the wwe titles to anyone these days. I stopped watching WWE in 2004 because it sucked…started again in 2010 only to find out somehow jobbers like Jeff Hardy & Edge were champions???! Rey Mysterio??? Like WTF. These were jobbers and now they’re main eventers lol. It’s sad. Punk is a fake Stone Cold. Even his theme song has the same rhythm.

    Punk isn’t the best in the world (I think AJ, Bryan, and Angle are better… Punk is in that class though) … I do believe that Punk deserves the number one spot on the PWI 500 this year though… within the last year no one’s been better

      I agree, Punk can consistently put on a great match and I’m a big fan of his, but I could list many names that are better wrestlers than him. Daniel Bryan would be on that list, as you said.

      After being in the wrestling business for over a decade now, Angle should know that “Best In The World” is a catchphrase designed to sell merchandise, nothing more.

      It’s not something to be taken literally.

        Orton’s work in the ring is solid, but you’re right Punk is definitely the better wrestler.

        It’s sad to see Kurt like this. He’s one of the all-time greats, he doesn’t need to bash other stars to validate himself.

        Personally, I would like to see Punk vs Angle sometime down the line. These two could deliver an amazing match together.

    Punk is a great wrestler working with a couple other great wrestlers and a bunch of “Superstars”. I don’t think he’s number one in the world but he had the belt almost all year, he’s gimmick is all about Straight Edge which will appeal Marketing wise to the youths of America, and he’s been on every late night show this year promoting WWE. So yeah, he prolly deserves to be number 1 this year. He worked hard. Angle as much of a jerk that he is could prolly Out Wrestle Punk any day of the week….and out drink him

    I think Kurt is either too proud for his Gold medals or kinda confused about the Wrestling business. I think to be the the ‘Best in the World’ you don’t have to be the best wrestler in the world. It all depends on the whole package as an entertainer. Austin, Rock, Hogan, Warrior were never the best wrestlers in their prime but they were best to watch either in promos or in ring. And that’s all that matters. I have respect for kurt as an entertainer but he needs to get over that CM Punk is rising fast to the top.

      Yeah but when Kurt was at the top wrestling was popular. Same with Cena in his DOT days. You can´t say that about CM Punk. Sorry guys that proves even as an entertainer Angle massively eclipses Punk. Kurt being one of the elite, even if he wasn´t the face, is much more impressive than a guy whining his way to the top, only to get there and WWE to go even further down in popularity. CM PUNK fans, keep deluding yourselves.

    Ha… You people are definitely going to disagree with what I’m about to say, but it’s the truth.
    I used to be a huge fan of CM Punk back when he was straight edge and he had his ECW Championship, and World Heavyweight Championship runs. One of his promo’s that I enjoyed the most was when he was walking out of the crowd when he had long hair and was feuding with Undertaker or Jeff Hardy over the World Heavyweight Championship, speaking about teenagers at home and their parents that need to moderate and control them more. He used to do so well on the microphone, and he used to be so inspirational.
    Now, a personality that was carried through from his infamous independent circuit run and reality, was completely RUINED due to Chris Jericho exposing him in the locker room “drinking alcohol” and “going to a bar.” No offense intended at all to Chris Jericho because WWE creative team made him do it, but seriously? That’s just as offensive to the past fans as it is to actual believers of the straight edge subculture. If CM Punk had any ounce or morsel left of dignity for himself, he wouldn’t have let WWE manipulate him, and just as he was after ECW and even after the Straight Edge Society… He would continue to be the Straight Edge Savior that everyone knows him to be. Not this “Best in the World” bullshit that’s so overused and not distinctive what-so-ever.

    Bryan Danielson is without a doubt the better wrestler and possibly the very best in ther world, and he proves it every time he’s on the air. He’s been the best thing about WWE for months now, and the bits with Kane are about the only thing worth watching anymore.
    To Orton, whether you idiot wrestling fans want to admit it or not, the guy is good, and just because he’s limited by the WWE style doesn’t mean anything. Just about every wrestler these days has only about 5 moves or so per match. The wrestlers could put on a lot better matches if allowed, but WWE just doesn’t see it that way.

    I’m sure there are many more wrestlers in the world who are better than Punk. At least, I hope so, considering his finisher is only a fireman’s carry into a knee strike, and most of his kicks look like a 4th grader’s version of karate- all flailing arms and shaky balance.
    When he was practicing kicks on that rolled up mat last week, his leg extension as shit, and his arms were flailing like a broken windmill…
    Power-wise, there’s dozen wrestlers who outshine Punk. Technical-wise, Bryan has a better mat-based game than Punk. As it’s been pointed out a dozen times already, “Best in the World” is just a catchy saying to sell t-shirts.
