Randy Orton Heel Turn Update, Dolph Ziggler Talks About Cashing In MITB

Published On October 15, 2012 | By | WWE News

- Randy Orton has been very outspoken in recent months about his desire to play a heel character on WWE television again. Orton, who is currently out filming “12: Rounds: Reloaded” for WWE Studios, was asked by a fan on Twitter about his favorite gimmick or storyline of his career. Orton replied, “Where I’m a HEEL.”

As previously reported, WWE has been holding off turning Orton heel until they feel comfortable that World Heavyweight champion Sheamus can carry the brand as the top babyface. According to WWE sources, Orton will be getting his wish and turning heel some time this fall.

- WWE.com has an article up looking at Dolph Ziggler’s comments on Friday’s SmackDown that he plans to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WWE Hell in a Cell and “guarantees” that he will be World Heavyweight champion by the time the night is up. The article speculates that Ziggler might be bluffing:

“Yet another possibility is that Ziggler’s guarantee is simply a red herring and he has no intention of making a major move Oct. 28. Just because The Showoff said he will cash in his contract at WWE Hell in a Cell does not mean he necessarily will cash in the contract. (Bryan pulled a similar ruse last year, first promising to cash in his contract at WrestleMania, only to pull the trigger at WWE TLC.) Despite his guarantee to take the title Oct. 28, might Ziggler choose to survey the situation in Atlanta before taking any drastic measures?”

If you’re going to put even a little bit of effort in building Ziggler up before cashing in his briefcase, please stop making him look like a joke in pointless match after pointless match on Raw and Smackdown. Who the hell cares if he cashes in and wins the belt if he’s being embarrassed by Kane and constantly being thrown into the shuffle as another guy? *Vince McMahon voice* MAKE HIM LOOK LIKE THE REAL DEAL DAMN IT!

    • Waldo

so you would rather see him off the shows all together? putting on great matches, being in main events of both Raw and SM, thats how you build him up. and thats what they are doing

      • Stranger

Being in a tag team main event and looking like a joke doesn’t really do much for me. Not to mention he jobbed to Kane last week twice and seriously looked like someone who had very little chance of winning. His feud with Jericho was too short and he lost at Summerslam so beating Jericho on Raw didn’t feel like a significant victory to me either. Has he even cut a promo since winning the briefcase? maybe one? maybe a scripted one? My point is that he should get more attention and play a bigger role so that way when he cashes in the MITB case it’ll be more dramatic or more important.

His feud with Orton also didn’t do much for him because despite a victory on Raw or Smackdown or wherever he beat Orton, Randy undoubtedly went over in that feud and Ziggler still looked like a guy who isn’t ready. What separates this from Jack Swagger’s horrible run as the champion? despite it being unpredictable at the time, Swagger was really a nobody when he won the briefcase and they handled his title reign the same way they’re handling Ziggler right now… ruling out the believability of him being a world champion because he doesn’t get even one significant victory and the other guy always looks better than him. Is he even doing anything right now? Who is he feuding with? He most likely won’t even be at the next pay per view. Orton is feuding with Del Rio now so…

They did the same thing to Bryan before he won the World title.

      • BrahmaBullRKO

But Bryan was a babyface, which just made everyone look at him as an underdog. Ziggler is a heel, who is supposed to be seen as a threat to the faces, but instead he looks like a joke.

        • Fighter

Stop, just stop. Ziggler does not look like a joke, every match he lost, he comes out of it smelling like roses. Plus he pretty gave Jericho the boot from Raw, after losing to him at Summer Slam. Daniel Bryan lost a hell of a lot more matches in much worse situation, like sometimes being dominated in a one sided contest that did not favor him. I still remember like yesterday. Every single Daniel Bryan fan 1 year ago, was all huffing and puffing for the way WWE booked. Not one person looked at him as a babyface. Everybody talked about how WWE was making him look like a joke. Whether it was his losing streak, Cole insulting, or the idea that he would be the first person to lose when he cash in. For all we know, Ziggler could actually cash in the Money In The Bank in February, or at Wrestlemania or even after Mania. Ziggler is not a joke, he does not look like a joke, compared to how DB was after he won the MITB last year. This is just another IWC extreme rhetoric, talking crap, until Ziggler cashes in and win the title.

          • Fighter

Correction::: Not one person looked at him as a underdog.

          • BrahmaBullRKO

He’s a joke because he doesn’t look like he can get anything accomplished in the midst of main eventers. He’s had several main event matches and matches with main event guys, and I can probably name two that he won. He got a clean win over Jericho, but he had a lot of losses himself, so that win was big, but not as big as it could have been.

He was getting Brogue Kicked constantly, and it just made him look like a chump. I’m not saying he should win every match and win them clean, but why should anyone take him seriously as a world champion if he kept losing and getting Brogue Kicked/RKO’d on his way there?

        • Forceton Banfodder

If I remember correctly, everyone on this site was bitching and moaning about Bryan’s losing streak before he cashed in. The point I was making was that they both had MitB briefcases and the WWE had them on losing streaks before they cashed in.

    • jon

How is losing to Kane embarrasing exactly?

  • Fighter

Sheamus vs Randy Orton at Survivor Series or maybe Team Orton vs Team Sheamus. Either way I think an Orton vs Sheamus match has a big feel to it. Despite his long reign as champ, Sheamus has yet to have that big feel feud/match as champ.

    • Swag Daddy

True that man, I feel it’s mostly because he hasn’t faced a real veteran yet and I don’t mean whole career I mean in the WWE, he faced people like ADR and Bryan who quite honestly hadn’t been around long enough in the WWE to give it that special feel but I will say Sheamus Vs. Daniel Bryan just could not be a bad match, those two have chemistry.

  • omega riddler

i hope sheamus vs orton is a lot better when it happens again because i didn’t like their match at royal rumble for the wwe title a couple of years ago when randy was turning babyface

  • pwnez

Sheamus won’t be able to carry SD by himself.

    • Forceton Banfodder

I disagree. Sheamus has gotten over extremely well. He’s easily becoming one of my favorites in the ring. The dude can brawl and he’s constantly evolving his moveset. I also think his pale skin is proving to be an asset because you can see every bruise, scrape and cut the guy gets. He’s literally putting his all into each match and it shows all over his body.

You know if Sheamus or Ziggler are in a match it’s going to be a good match. I’m actually looking forward to Sheamus vs. Big Show because Sheamus’ showings with Tensai have been intensely brutal brawls.

      • pwnez

I don’t think Sheamus has gotten over as well as WWE planned. He doesn’t get a huge reaction for a guy who is the current WHC. Come to think of it, Sheamus has been a 2 time WWE champion, a WHC, king of the ring winner and a royal rumble winner; with all these accomplishments he should be doing better. Daniel Bryan lost to him in 18 seconds on the biggest stage in WWE, he is one half of the tag team champions and somehow he gets a bigger pop than Sheamus. I would buy Bryan as the top guy on SD before Sheamus. If anyone has evolved constantly it’s Bryan.

Sheamus brawling is alright but he needs to be fighting someone who is better than him or at least on the same level so it’s entertaining. He just finished feuding with ADR, which IMO was one of the worst feuds i’ve seen in awhile. That wasn’t all ADR’s fault either since neither guy could work the mic very well. Sheamus also suffers from Cena syndrome (goody goody, corny jokes, lackluster mic skills and has a superman side to him.)

As for Sheamus vs Show, i’m not a fan of this. To me this is Show vs Henry all over again. Plus, they have had some awful segments thus far, especially that horrid debate on raw. I really think Sheamus needs to drop the title because he isn’t improving anything.

        • Forceton Banfodder

You stated the exact reasons why he is going to go over. He’s the next Cena. Goody goody corny jokes, superman side to him, and the kids love him. Plus he looks like a redheaded Hogan. Easily marketable.

Daniel Bryan will be a top face/heel in the company, but he does not have as much of a distinguishable look that can be marketed easily which is part of what WWE looks for in the faces of their company.

Also, I don’t blame Sheamus for the horrid segments, that’s all Stephanie McMahon’s genius right there. She needs to get tossed the fuck out of creative and let the wrestlers do their own thing again, which I suspect Triple H would fully embrace if he had her leash off for half a second.

          • pwnez

If that’s the case than i’m not looking foward to WWE’s future. I guess we’re looking at Sheamus in different ways. Like Bushwald said, I would prefer him as a heel because he was good at that.

I agree and disagree with you. Creative is giving these guys awful segments to work with but Sheamus still can’t talk. He stole practically everything from Finlay (i’m Irish, I love to fight, lets go to the bar and drink.) I remember on raw about a month ago he did a promo with Cena backstage and he used every cheap pop in the book and still got no crowd reaction. I don’t think he has what it takes to be the big company man.

          • Forceton Banfodder

Like I said, it’s not so much about turning us on him. It’s about the kids. Disney stole notes straight out of Mein Kampf and WWE has been doing it too. Indoctrinate the children and they’ll grow up as fans.

I would like to deny it, but let’s face it, some of my earliest memories of wrestling came from Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling cartoon. I remember watching wrestling on TV before that, but not as clearly as I remember the cartoon.

      • Bushwald Sexyface

Damnit Banfodder, I finally have to disagree with you. Sheamus, to me, was much better as a heel. I don’t see any way he can carry Smackdown as a face. They need to give him an edge, at least, and it doesn’t seem like they’re going to do that. I hope I am wrong.

        • Forceton Banfodder

          We’ve disagreed before. No worries.

But I look at what the WWE is seeing which is kids dressing like Sheamus. Sheamus is getting extremely popular with the kids and I know pwnez doesn’t think his reaction is huge, but it’s honestly not bad when compared to guys like Big Show. Sure he doesn’t go over as well as Punk or Cena right now, but how many years have Punk and Cena put into the company already? As for him being a heel, I think he plateaued pretty quickly and didn’t leave them really anything to work with.

I know no one will agree with me here (now) but I think Sheamus has what it takes to be the next face of the WWE. Think about it, he’s already getting the kids vote like Cena and he’s got a distinguished look that sets him apart from the rest of the guys on the roster. Add to the fact that he’s likable and you got a pretty marketable superstar for years to come.

Get the kids, and you got a marketable guy for years to come.

          • Bushwald Sexyface

I won’t deny that Sheamus has potential. I just think he’s 20 times better as a heel, a lot like Orton and Cena would be.

          • Forceton Banfodder

I will agree that Orton is a much better heel, and as a heel he can put guys over left and right. Cena would be great as a heel only to change up the stale ass routine of his… but I don’t see Cena doing that willingly.

Sheamus I see as a good replacement for Super Cena. As a Heel, I say let Wade Barrett rise to fill that roll.

WWE just make the man heel

I bet he can’t stand the high pitch Randy! chants.

  • cappa37

I’m almost 100% sure that Dolph won’t cash in. WWE is desperate to get buy rates up so they have him saying this. But the reality is that him winning the championship should have been must see but it isn’t his first time winning it since they had that STUPID story line where Vickie put the title on him. Even if he wins it, it won’t be as special a moment as it could have been.

  • Bushwald Sexyface

The question I have is this: How will they turn him? During his last heel run, he was so good that the crowd cheered him and they were forced to turn him face. How will they prevent that again? I think he would literally have to murder Rey Mysterio or some other popular small guy to get the fans to actually boo him. It’s kind of like CM Punk. He’s doing everything he can to get the crowd to boo him and half still cheer for him. It’s gonna be a tough task to pull of, especially on Smackdown where there’s not a lot of face depth.

    • InfiniteRTG

I think they should have just let Big Show knock him out so hard that he is absent for a little while, and comes back acting all crazy again. Kind of like when Big Show knocked out Mark Henry when Henry was a face, he left, then came back as a heel. Or I remember when Kane got his leg “broken” by Henry and returned with the mask on as a heel.

idk…like you said it will be kind of challenging. Just throwing out suggestions.

    • Gepetto

I think the best way to get maximum heat for Randy would be to give him a faction. He has the ability to generate a lot of heat from the fans….and for the fans who like him as a heel, he can draw off of the heat of the members of his faction….Question….who would make good member for an Orton stable

      • Bushwald Sexyface

He’s already been in two. There would be no point to have him in another.

      • http://twitter.com/IAmChrisHerbert Chris Herbert

Have Cody rhodes and Sandow lose the titles and get randy for help. OR have Randy interfere and attack sin cara and mysterio and get cody and Sandow the Win, cuz Randy has history with Cody

    • http://twitter.com/IAmChrisHerbert Chris Herbert

Possible team up with Cm Punk? CM punk is getting boos. but he’s trying WAY too hard

    • http://twitter.com/StupidSobi SOBI

or he could simply RKO the returning Jerry Lawler but that is too early for this fall.
i would personally like his Legend Killer gimmick but it would be unlikely since he is among the big guys now and there arent any legends left

    • tiran66

I’ve been thinking about his for awhile also. I think the best way to turn Orton is for him to cost Ziggler his cash-in. The fans want to cheer for Ziggler anyway. Have Sheamus beat Show, Show knocks him out after, Ziggler runs down and just as the bell sounds Orton hits the ring. RKO to Ziggler, pull Sheamus over for the three count. Then when Sheamus gets up to thank Orton, Orton kicks the living shit out of Sheamus and then one more RKO to Ziggler before leaving.

  • charlemange

Sheamus isnt a draw to me he isnt interesting AT ALL I’d rather they just have Bryan be the top face on Smackdown really or turn Miz face, plus they could debut somebody who they know is ready for the Main Event(Unlike Ryack) and give them a megapush

i say they bring back the legend killer like gimmick for orton, back when he had that gimmick his caharcter had alot more personalltiy then the viper character. maybe he could start new evoloution? i don’t know who it’d be with but at this poin
