RAW Ratings: Lowest Non-Holiday Viewership In 15 Years

Monday’s WWE RAW drew a 2.5 rating with 3,502,000 viewers – the lowest non-holiday rating in 15 years.

Hourly ratings were: 3,436,000, 3,588,000 and 3,472,000. Once again, RAW lost viewership in the third hour.

Ratings have been declining in recent weeks, it will be interesting to see if WWE continues with the 3-hour weekly format much longer if the trend continues.

COMMENT BELOW and tell us if you think RAW should continue as a 3-hour show, or if 2 hours is more than enough, with so many hours of additional first-run wrestling on television each week.

I was listening to Clark’s Radio Show & Shad was on the phone talking about what this company does. It’s ridiculous backstage how politics work. They are limiting Superstars in the ring, which he admitted. How they select their Big stars vs. the Smaller ones. Vince always changing up things at the last minute instead of going with his first idea. Which could actually be a great idea but he doesn’t give it a chance. Creative Team is not even trying they have shown through their writing they do not know what they are doing & then we have other Programs on Monday Nights, fans will tune out when Raw for an example falls apart within the second or third hour of the show.

I’ll quote what he said “Vince wants to give the fans what they want, but he does not know what the fans want. However, when fans do get what they want, they don’t appreciate it.” He even revealed Triple H to a degree now has taken over, the structure of the company has changed drastically. Pay attention to the path of certain Superstars, who’s getting push, who’s not getting push. Triple H is sitting in the chair and Vince is standing behind him.

    • http://twitter.com/SGHarris123 Steven Harris

Yep i agree, its nothing to do with pg. He thinks he knows what fans want, but for some strange reason hes not giving it. But, fans complain even if they are given what they want, so if you think they are both to blame.

      • http://www.facebook.com/ldozier3 Lorenzo Dozier

      • FOLEY_is_GOD

You think Vince gives a shit about people complaining? I don’t think you realize but viewership is most important thing, at least over a couple of WWE marks’ opinions

    • morrisonfanone

Vince is holding his son-in-laws purse? That’s so sad.

      • http://www.facebook.com/ldozier3 Lorenzo Dozier

Shad made a little joke on the phone with Ryan Clark saying “What are you talking about? This has been Triple H’s company for quite while, you are slowly seeing Vince fade away. At this point Raw & SmackDown belongs to Triple H, Vince still makes the final decision, but Triple H has been taking control.”

It went down like that this past Tuesday Night on the Radio Show.

    cm punk sucks

  • CurtainJerker

Force feed rubbish and people will tune out.

    • cappa37

Whether the iwc wants to admit it or not, Cm Punk can’t draw. Great wrestler but not a must see WWE superstar.

      • FOLEY_is_GOD

The people that like Punk (the older crowd) would probably prefer to watch Football rather than three hours of bullshit

      • pwnez

He’s one of the bigger stars in the company who gathers good crowd reactions. CM Punk is one of the few guys people tune into see and once his match/segment is finished they tune out. You can’t expect Punk to carry the company all by himself. The same can be said about Cena and Orton. WWE doesn’t have enough big stars to make fans want to tune in, nor do they have the storylines to make things interesting.

Back in the A.E. days you had alot of big stars and they all worked well with each other. The Rock, SCSA, Undertaker, HHH, Mankind, Kane, HBK, Kurt Angle, Jericho among others. Factor in the cool stables they had back then also. Today we have only a handful and most of them aren’t that popular. The bottom line is that WWE has to start building up newer talent and stop relying on guys from the A.E. They won’t be around forever, you gotta let them go sometime. If you are going to use them, make them put over younger talent so they can become more recognized.

        • cappa37

Sure those are definitely true but you gotta look at the numbers too during Phil’s reign. Some of the lowest ratings for Raw shows, the second half of the show started losing viewers (also, Solomonster mentioned that according to the metrics, Phil’s matches commonly lose viewers), WWE stock price went to lowest in 9 years, ppv buy rates down huge. I mean, at some point you gotta point the figure at someone… who better than the guy who’s been champ for over 300 days now…

          • morrisonfanone

I know people don’t like Cena, but maybe with him as champion, they MIGHT get more viewers. It couldn’t hurt to try.

        • morrisonfanone

Plus Edge and Christian vs. The Hardy Boyz or the Dudleys. Those matches were priceless.

      • Roy Cuffee

i disagree i almost hate raw well the whole wwe brand rite now and i,ve been watching for 18 years now and punk is one the few guys i ever tune in too see…

  • pwnez

Raw should go back to being 2 hours especially if they are going to give us crappy segments like the debate on raw. Nothing is really going on; you have to have something that’s interesting.

Football is also hurting the ratings. Lets face it, football has a much bigger fan base than wrestling. I’m sure most would choose football over WWE.

YES! YES! YES! YES!YES! I love the fact that WWE is losing viewers and at a rating of 2.5. GET RID OF PG. People are tired of the PG BULLSHIT!!!! IF WWE keeps PG, then WWE will keep losing viewers. ATTITUDE ERA had a RATING OF 5.0 and UP!

  • http://www.facebook.com/liz.digregorio Liz DiGregorio

I hope it continues the should just get rid of the 2 hours of smackdown. And bring all the superstars over to Raw and make it a three hour supershow. I have been watching since well before it was on Monday and Friday when it was WWF. I always have and I always will watch above anything else on TV.

  • Shucky Ducky Quack Quack

you cant get anywhere with meaningless main events, tag champs vs cm punk and ziggler? there were times when main event meant something, no wonder Ross said Kofi and Ziggler were the main event last week, poor debate, poor Ryback finish, poor start of the show, meaningless backstage segments with AJ contributed to the poor rating…

  • franky

well change wwe shows back to tv 14 and go back to 2 hr

  • wizard of wrestling

I to do feel that Raw at 3 hours is to much at times. But after watching a recent shoot interview with Vince Russo and how they break down the ratings. WWE has to look as see what the the fans like and dislike and stick with what works. Obviously a Debate is a terrible idea especially with Big Show and Sheamus. They need interesting story lines that keep the audience engaged and want to watch. My opinion i was surprised it was a decent show with John Cena even on the card. Like they say you take someone else off but you just have another cog in the wheel to keep it turning. The bottom line is they need to have more surprises and interesting story lines that have the fans get emotionally involved in the product in order for it to become a success.

  • Kevin Lazar

Go ahead WWE, keep PG and the kids, see how far your ratings will drop. 2.0 and below LMFAO!!!! it will happen one day. We dont need an attitude era, just TV-14

  • Fez437

Monday night football surely has something to do with it. Just eliminate smackdown it’s become nothing more than a raw recap mixed with the train wreck known as Wwe High Velocity. The 3 hr show is forcing ppl into matches they are not ready for yet. Example the match between Tensi and ryback not one but to epic fails during that match as ryback drops Tensi. Just go back to the two hour show and drop smackdown

  • Thomas-24/7 (Mutascale)

The game between Dallas and Chicago had to have a huge impact(no pun intended) on the low rating last night. On the other hand, I thought Raw was weak last night. I thought the debate was embarrassing to watch last night. WWE needs to re-establish its creative team pronto.

  • Stoops Nic

Raw has been bad for awhile. Last night’s MNF game had a lot to do with the rating but they have been in decline anyway. I think what is being overlooked is that WWE has hitched it’s cart to a real “good guy” in Cena and he gives them SO much mainstream media attention that they have to stay in the PG format. When guys like SCSA, HBK, Taker and Rock were on top they were edgier characters and WWE went with it. Cena’s time is coming to an end and WWE is clearly trying to make more edgier stars, like in the attitude era. WWE has it’s lulls but will get better. Just not as soon as most would like.

There are other things that WWE and the fans need to consider aside from PG, the long 3-hours, crappy show, etc. People should realize that there are other shows available right now. Unlike 15 years ago where there are limited shows that could compete with WWF/E. Add to the fact that people stream or download RAW episodes. With the current state of WWE, how could we expect them to compete with NBA and MNF? It’s a different era now. Wrestling fans 15 years ago think differently than the current WWE fans.

  • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.fundora.1 Daniel Fundora

2 hours will be easy because they ran out ideas for 3 hour show like no one care about!

  • RealKRone88

It’s hard to watch 3 hours when the final hour is prompt for failing, especially if everyone is sitting at home, watching boring gimmicks come out all the time, and doing their same plugin entrances all the time (Brodus Clay ring a bell), and the higher ups depend on 3 guys to carry the company name. 15 years ago, this was never the case. A new direction came rolling in, and it was changed forever. Today’s talent, paved by past mega stars, need to understand there will be no A.E. 2.0. 3 hours is alright with me, but if this is suppose to be long term, I suggest going in a different direction. This PG thing isn’t responsible for the low ratings, so this is an opportunity to make a change.

  • Stranger

It’s the senseless twitter and rawactive crap, the lazy scripted promos and segments, over-dependence on one/two guys, lack of ppv build up, abundance of replays and social media crap, lack of creative ideas and development in storylines.

People want to see entertainment… a product that takes chances persistently and makes everyone lose their minds. Not some boring debate with twitter questions and a large behemoth dancing to a disco ball. Grow up, put more effort into the material, and take chances with the talent. Let someone go out there from time to time and give the audience a piece of their minds… rather than scripting some contrived, lame, watered down promo that no one will react to.

Funny, that probably isn’t even half of why I hardly tune in anymore.

    • Stranger

3 hours, believe it or not, isn’t the issue. Nor does it have anything to do with John Cena being out.

    • morrisonfanone

I know, right. I was tried of all this media crap the first time it happened.

  • MegaAgent69

I like the idea of 3 hour RAWS. But they haven’t been able to keep it that interesting since RAW 1000. I DVR it and still watch it tho. #Loyalty

  • juan

the wwe sucks everything staing in the late 2000s became a joke just like gas prices became a joke after hitting 2.00 and then 3.00 it’s a joke how bad the story lines has gone since the era of day care rating that’s what PG is a kids show the 90s were better then the idiots of the late 2000s screw it up

  • krismystery

You can come up with every excuse in the book but the bottom line is wrestling programs today are absolute garbage. Too much incredibly corny comedy combined with about 45 minutes of wrestling in a three hour show just ain’t gonna cut it. Mondays RAW was horrendous… to the point where even the announcers seem to lose interest. Having JR there isn’t helping a bit. He sounded so rusty on RAW it was quite sad. Particularly at the beginning of the show he made quite a number of mistakes and was stumbling over his words. Another thing is the wrestlers themselves… every match each particular wrestler has is exactly the same as the one he had before that. Rey Mysterio for example… every match he has is exactly the same.. and last night he did not look comfortable in the ring at all.

    • morrisonfanone

Its not exactly like TNA is stiff competition. That can’t be the reason.

  • Zman

probably cuz Cena wasn’t on the show

    • Bushwald Sexyface

Uh, no. Dallas v Chicago MNF game. Two major markets. Plus, the 3 hour show format just isn’t working.

  • Roy

with a PG rating, wellness policies, code-of-conduct policies wwe is forced to make super-lame shows… and hence such ratings.
You cannot barbeque a chicken without lighting a fire.. Just a food for thought for the high-paid, all-brains wwe top management.

  • The808Keoni

I think you can do a bunch of things to please everybody. 3 hours is a long time to watch TV. Any person will do it if the programming is good enough. WWE used to keep you super glued to your seat but now you’re just lightly taped to it with Scotch tape. 3 hours can work out if you do it right.
Stop the constant replays. Its so irritating seeing the Raw stage catch on fire 4 times or what John Cena said to CM Punk earlier over and over. Next, you have a roster not just a small group. A lot of wrestlers deserve time to shine and their character needs to be built up, stop ignoring them. Don’t even get me started on the Women’s division. PG-13is absolute garbage because they censor grown men thus watering down real emotion and passion. There is no real insult anymore and that hurts promos a lot. We don’t need excessive amounts of breasts or ass or swearing every 3 minutes but it does need to be more edgy.
Stop trying to turn a big boy’s product into Nickelodeon. It is definitely a new age and you wont vacuum everybody to your show but you can do your best to keep your loyal fans and bring in new ones without sacrificing too much. Kill all that TOUT and Twitter crap. Wake up and stop being lazy with scripts and storylines. Build your PPV’s better and surprise the fans every once in a while.
Lastly lol my own personal creative idea, and this is if they can do it legitimately right is to have a Attitude Era 2.0. I know its far out there but don’t just make it video game possible. If done right, ratings will skyrocket in my opinion.

  • http://twitter.com/Sherman721 Josh Sherman

They just don’t have enough star power for 3 hours with the current product. I think WWE’s star power 10 years ago would have been enough to fill a 3 hour time slot but not now. And with the argument that Punk can’t draw, I think he can draw……. Live crowds. But when it comes to drawing in the TV market, he lacks a lot.

  • RandomAssPost

I contributed to decreasing that number. I am not going to sit through basically 2 hours of commercials, recaps, and shitty segments just to see AJ, Divas, and Team Hell No. The product has been terrible since after CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan and I couldn’t even sit through an hour just for that when it was two hours and I’m not a fan of CM Punk much so that’s saying something. They need to get their shit in gear and find their mojo again cause they don’t have it now.

  • Shockmaster

3 hours is definitely too much. Especially when you consider they also have Smackdown and both shows feature the same wrestlers now. I think they need to put Raw back to two hours or just get rid of Smackdown and have one 3 hour show a week. They also need to limit the roster. I think 20 wrestlers would be plenty to have each week. That doesn’t include the women’s division, but they are leaving so often now they only have about 4 or 5 that wrestle anymore.

  • Shockmaster

I think the reason Punk doesn’t draw as you say is because the traditional wrestling fan is watching less and less since WWE caters more to kids now to sell Cena’s merchandise. The show is more like a comic book or superhero movie now than wrestling.

    • Juan Diego Gomez Sanchez Perez

Agreed. It’s getting back to what I refer to as the “cartoon era”. The Bushwhackers, Jameson, Doink & Dink, Jerry Lawler’s midget friends Sleazy, Queazy, and Cheesy, the original MVP baseball player, pirates, dentists, Papa Shango, Mountie, Skinner, a tax man (IRS), Repo Man….I could just go on and on and on and on. And it never would have gotten away from that childish cartoon era and turned into the attitude era had it not been for a brand of competition that was aiming at a different demographic (18-to-39-year-old males). Sometimes competition is good.

      • G.I.R.L.

      • Frank

Gimmicks or performers like the Bushwackers or Irwin R. Sheister are not that bad if they are relegated to side performers-mid level card players. But with regards to appealing to kids, those of us who enjoyed the Attitude Era (as teenagers and young adults) grew up (as kids) on a WWF organization that had its Hogan, Macho Man, DiBiase, Jake the Snake, Mr. Perfect, Andre the Giant etc. etc. appeal to us kids…Maybe 5-10 years from now the John Cena era kiddie fans become the Attitude fans of tomorrow…

        • Juan Diego Gomez Sanchez Perez

I wish Attitude would come back tomorrow rather than in 5 or 10 years. My point is that I don’t think it will ever come back because as long as Vinnie Mac has a monopoly on the sport and no competition, there will be no reason for him to kick it up into “attitude gear”. WWE needs some real competition again.

  • JDBrown

It doesn’t matter if the show is three hours when you are not putting out a product that people are interested in.

  • Chris Keller

well, here it is. Ive been watching and following WWE/WWF for over 30 years. THAT’S 30 YEARS! im 42 now. Since RAW 1, Ive seen every raw episode, give or take a dozen or so over the years. NOW, I still tape it on dvr, I watch the first opening segment, and then i turn it off. I watch other shows. The next day ill fast forward on the DVR to segments that look good. but mostly I just start with the final segment that ends RAW in hopes of something good happening. Nothing ever does. 3 hours is too much, sounded great, looked great on paper, but i think it was an error. and if we know it, you better believe they know it (wwe top brass). Even past the 3 hours, WWE has become dumbed down, repetitive, generic, unoriginal, and rated g and for 8 year olds. Keep in mind this is from a 30 year hardcore WWE fan. It’s hard to be “original” today with characters and talent, when its already all been done. Tha’ts the problem. Its not like music where you can choose from dozens of styles and mix them up to create something “original”, you can’t have a guy like dorky rybeck trying to be goldberg, wont fly,and it doesn’t. all the originals are done, and left a legacy. hhh, scsa, rock, mick, taker, flair, hogan, snuka, hillilly jim, bushwackers, hart, edge, jericho, etc etc etc. Ya see my point? WWE IS WHAT IT IS TODAY. entertainment marketed towards 8 year olds. yea, when raw comes to town, do I go? yes, I do. but this past raw we sold our tickets and decided that our 500 bucks was better spent on other things than 3 hours sitting at a raw, paying 20 bucks for parking, and 30 bucks for beer and snacks. I’m sorry to say, but in years to come, WWE ratings and revenue will be in serious decline. I can see it coming, which started a year or so ago.

I/we watched all those years because each week there was real plotlines, it was like a soap opera for men. there was ass kickin, location shots at local bars, skits, backstage run ins,TURNS,screw jobs, surprises. etc. Where is all that today? ZERO!

so, until i tune in some night on my dvr and see Miz turning Face, Ziggler actually winning something, and some returns from guys who been dormant with new characters. AND get vince back involved kicking some ass, being the super heel he is, ass kising club, bring in steph and Shane, and use guys like christian who still have some gas in the tank to get over. geez. I’m done. really I am. sad to say, but i’m done. good luck raw.

with the 3 hours it is now more boring than before. its the same number of matches as before. the only addition is more talking segment between the matches witch make the viewer get bored during the show. They should know how to use more matches for the non utilized wrestlers backstage and make the show excited same as with WCW did with the 3 hours Nitro.

I think the 3 hrs are cool, but if it keeps losing viewers in the 3rd hr, they may have to hang that up. I’m not shocked at all. I just can’t believe it’s the lowest in 15 years. Did I just type that?

You guys are crazy, anyone tunning in to watch CM punk , you obviously not been watching wrestling for very long. Guy is pure boring, he brings nothing but annoyance. Im telling you anytime I see him on tv, I turn the channel, he lacks everything. He would maybe do good if he had the rock, hhh, undertaker .. all thoses guys back around him but he doesnt.
