WWE SmackDown Results: April 23rd, 2010

Big thanks to reader Nick Fox for sending in the following spoilers from Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings from Uncasville, Connecticut:

* WWE World champion Jack Swagger comes out cutting a promo.  He says he wants to inspire the entire WWE Universe.  He says that at Extreme Rules, he’s going to rip the head off Randy Orton and will take out the Viper.

* John Morrison pinned World champion Jack Swagger with Starship Pain.  Huge pop.  Obviously, a non-title match.  This was great stuff.

* There will be a steel cage match later.

* There is what appears to be a barber’s stool set up on the stage.

* The Straight Edge Society is complaining the Teddy Long about Rey Mysterio cutting CM Punk’s hair.  Long orders Punk & Luke Gallows vs. Rey Mysterio & Kane later tonight.

* Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre defeated Matt Hardy & R-Truth when Hardy via referee’s decision when it was ruled Hardy could not continue.  McIntyre attacks Hardy after the match.  The referees and Truth carry out Hardy.

* The Cage is lowered.

* Chris Jericho and Wade Barrett come out and enter the ring.  Jericho says he will end Edge’s career tonight and there will be “No More Spears.”   Edge comes out on stage and mocks Jericho for losing to Heath Slater on NXT.  He says he has nothing to lose and hits the ring.  Barrett and Jericho attack Edge.  Jericho avoids the spear.  Edge spears Barrett instead and the crowd goes nuts.

* Edge is limping as he returns to the back.

* JTG vs. Mike Knox.  Shad Gaspard is the guest ring announcer.    JTG defeated Knox by pinfall.  Shad attacks JTG and slaps him with belts. He then begins choking him with them and walks out.

* Michelle McCool & Layla El defeated Mickie James & Beth Phoenix.  They throw Phoenix through an ironing board after the match, then smeared lipstick all over her face.

* A barber’s chair has been brought to ringside.

* The Straight Edge Society defeated Kane & Rey Mysterio when Punk rolled up Rey.  Kane punched Luke Gallows out of the ring and chased him to the back.  Mysterio went for a 619 but Serena got involved.  Punk and Rey went back and forth and Punk ended up in the barber’s chair.  Mysterio tried to shave his head but Punk escaped.

    for f**ks sake, REALLY!!! morrison def.swagger clean with his lame finishing move IN THE OPENING MATCH OF THE NIGHT!!!! REALLY!! WWE is really dropping the ball with Swagger right now, at this point I will be extremely shocked if he defeats Orton at Extreme Rules. seriously, bulls***!

    Here’s a quick and easy booking lesson for the wwe: if you want your fans to take your world champion seriously, you CAN’T have him job to mid carders in the opening match. In fact, you really shouldn’t have him jobbing at all. What exactly are they trying to accomplish here?

    Why are so many of you so high on Swagger? The guy has no charisma and is one of the least entertaining guys to watch. I tried to watch RAW with Swagger vs Undertaker but couldn’t do it. Swagger just brings his opponents down. I’m glad Morrison beat him, he would make a far better champion. The belt needs to be put on Orton and Swagger needs to be demoted to NXT.

    im almost sure swagger is going to win this sunday, its time for the young guys to take the rains of the wwe, taker kane and triple h are the last three guys that have been there pre 95, they are a dying breed

    I’m hoping the match is a hardcore match and gets AT LEAST 10 minutes. And I’m PRAYING TO GOD Beth & McCool have another NOC 09 like match at ER, and by that I mean if they do extremely well (no pun intended) at sunday, MAYBE the writers and bookers can see more promise in their women.

    I am not at all high on Jack Swagger. I think that he utterly lacks the charisma and presence that makes a great champion. I am just very confused. The WWE has clearly chosen Swagger to be one of their ‘stars of the future.’, they obviously want him to get over with the fans. The way they are booking him at the moment though is doing the exact opposite.

    OMG CAN THE DIVAS MATCHES GET ANY MORE OF A JOKE ?!?!?!…I mean…Beth and Mickie…getting beaten by LayCool ???…Beth was the most dominating Diva in the WWE…and now she gets beaten down by LayCool ?…really ???…and Mickie is champion for a few weeks…gets injured and suddenly comes back to getting jobbed by LayCool ?…WTF ?!?!?!…this is a bigger joke than the Raw Divas…and an ironing board ?…seriously ?…when did people start using ironing boards as weapons ?…S=/

    The Diva’s match was pretty bad. Layla went under the apron to get the ironing board… and couldn’t find it. She had to ask the ref twice where it was. A camera guy ended up finding it for her.

    Main Event Dark Match was a Triple Threat for the Heavyweight Belt. Swagger Vs Jericho Vs Rey. Wasn’t all that great, match lasted all of 5-10 minutes. Swagger got a “clean” pin for the win.

    Dolph I.Champ, Swagger World Champ, Orton to Smackdown, Beth Women’s Champ, SES grows 1 more member, Mercury, Shad bodyguard for Abe Washington, & Mercury vs. Hardy not Morrison.

    Swagger needs more experience, wwe needs to think of the future though, but while swagger should be working his way up, guys like miz and Morrison need a push Morrison could be the next Rick rude or Shawn michaels if he had a chance at a world title

    Ugh, i stand seeing LayCool “winning” matches every week. and why is there an ironing board under the ring??

    SmackDown! looks great this week much better than some stupid B show with another terrible guest host. and Swagger isn’t jobbing, Morrison has got the too much talent to still be considered a mid carder and one more thing it isn’t jobbing if it was a good even match. Plus I don’t think this hurts swaggers credibility it’s not like he won the title in a straight up one on one match he cashed in while someone was down it’s understandable that they r trying to build him down before he beats Orton this Sunday and get’s his MoJo back. Jack Swagger is the heel champion therefore it is understandable that he can’t win a clean match very often and he dosn’t need wins to be put over any more he is the champion he’s made it. Alot of champions drop non title matches anyways so I don’t feel Jack isn’t a credible champion. All in all good SmackDown coming for us this week they always put on a good show like they did Monday Night minus the McGruber BS.
