Steve Austin Speaks On Whether Or Not Chris Benoit Should Be In The WWE HOF

WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of the late being inducted into the . Regarding the subject, Austin said on a recent podcast, “Well first and foremost, what I think about is that guy was one of the most nicest guys I ever met in my life. He’s one of the most talented, hard working cats I’d ever seen in the squared circle. Anybody who knew Chris would tell you those exact two things. That guy loved the damn wrestling business, he was born to be a wrestler and was absolutely phenomenal. Drawing a lot of his influence from The Dynamite Kid, he blazed a path as the Pegasus Kid and his legacy as The Crippler was just one hellacious career.”

Austin continued, “One night, Chris ended up killing his wife and his kid. That is an act so terrible and horrible I can’t even comprehend or guess as to what happened in that house. That will always overshadow any accomplishment Chris had in the ring. He’ll never be in the , it will just never happen. His career will speak for itself but his record as a human being, his first and foremost, and those actions will never be forgotten. That’s my feelings on that, we don’t even need to talk about the . Speaking for myself, Chris Benoit as the person I knew, loved him. Chris Benoit as a wrestler, loved him. Chris Benoit as the person who did what he did, unforgivable. Bottom line.”

      Cause Morality said so.

    • GMpunk

      Completely agree with Stone Cold

    • SomeInternetGuy

Even Austin is being bothered with these stupid Benoit questions. Enough already with the Benoit talk. He’s one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time and seemed like a sweet guy but he brutally murdered his family and it shocked everyone and that’s all there is to say. That’s the story. Deal with it and lets move on people..

    • JaffaJoose

I don’t think Benoit should be in the Hall of Fame, but I don’t think WWE should try to pretend that he never existed at all, either. Quoth the Rattlesnake: “His career will speak for itself.” That’s exactly how I feel: Benoit shouldn’t be put on a pedestal, but his career should be allowed to speak for itself.

    • Jeremy-County Roberts

Can these HOF questions just stop. It’s like asking why Casey Anthony can’t get a job working at a Daycare.

      • Aperture

Good point, but Casey wasn’t one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time. That is where people have that disturbance. I agree with Stone Cold, but there are few who think that Benoit should be inducted.

    • Godzilla2J

      Thats the bottom line .

    • Daniel Bryan

This is perfectly said by Steve. Chris should not and will not ever be in the WWE Hall of Fame. His actions and the situation will never allow that to happen. The WWE still doesn’t even mention his name or show him in video, what makes anyone think they’d ever celebrate him and put him in the HOF? It won’t happen.

    • Kevin G. Wolfe

I hope that’s really the end of the Benoit debate. Everything that needs to be said about him was said there.

    • Sigma ?

People need to move on with the whole Benoit saga.

    • RaZ

Sportsmanship? What a load of crap.

“His career will speak for itself”
Put it perfectly, for people who really love wrestling and it’s history, they’ll come across Chris Benoit in their own research.

very good words from austin. when i think of benoit of course the murders pop up but i still look back fondly of the fantastic matches he was apart of. he will never be forgiven for his actions but i think most of us can still enjoy his matches

        • lala

          batman’s family is dead too

          • G.I.R.L.

But Batman didn’t kill his family. I don’t understand the reference either.

        • JaffaJoose

I thought he was just going for the fallen idol angle.

          • Aperture

            That is deep…

      • CurryGoi

man what a fantastic match that was

    • beatskeetskeet

Hall of fame is based on accomplishments not character.

Benoit SHOULD be in the Hall of Fame and here is why.
      1) Benoit put his heart and soul into the business.
      CHECK!
      Even Austin tells us this.
      2) He was one of THE best technical wrestlers of his day.
      CHECK!
      3) There is no doubt that what he did in the ring took a toll on his body which we are now seeing with concussions in the sport. Couple THAT with Chris losing his best friend (Eddie) and ZERO wellness support from WWF and you have the makings of a guy who slowly becomes a “monster” outside of the ring.
      4) Benoit killing his wife and kid has ZERO to do with his talent INSIDE the squared circle.
      5) There are guys in the Hall of Fame who are addicts, wife-beaters, drunks, etc so no one is perfect.
      6) There are people in the Hall of Fame that should NOT be in there because of their minimal contribution to the “sport” and yet Benoit should be there because of his IMPACT and his Contribution to the “sport”.
      7) If you are going to look at the wrestler’s life inside and outside the ring then someone like Pat Patterson, a known pedophile, should NOT be in the Hall of Fame.
Perhaps the ONLY reason WWE does not put Benoit in the Hall of Fame is like A&E excluding Phil Robertson from “Duck Dynasty” – right now, it’s not good for business. They are afraid sponsors will take their money elsewhere. That there will be an uproar from special interest groups.
But that is nothing new. WWE lives and breathes in controversy all the time. Perhaps this should be another one of those times when they embrace Benoit’s career and not pay attention to his personal/private life like they have done with so many other WWF/WWE superstars.

      • GMpunk

Take it easy guy. Its not gonna happen

    • http://twitter.com/TyrannoThunder Tyrannosaurus Thunder

The STone Cold Truth….Chris benoit will never….AND THE ROCK MEANS EVER be in the hall of fame because of his actions….WWE cannot glorify a child murderer……..But personally, I think Benoit should be inducted into the Hell of Flame along with Stalin, Hitler, Ghadaffi, Hussein, Osama, and Dahmer
