Sting Says He Wants To Wrestle The Undertaker At WrestleMania 31

Wrestling legend spoke to Mirror.co.uk this week to hype his involvement in the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game. Sting spoke about a variety of topics, including why he decided to finally work with WWE after all these years, if he’s interested in joining the , memories of his former tag team partner The and his desire to wrestle at WrestleMania 31.

Here are the highlights of what Sting said about:

Finally Working With WWE: “Why now? It’s a now or never thing. I’ve done so many things in the wrestling business but the one thing I’d never done was wrestle or be a part of the WWE family I didn’t want too hang it all up and retire and disappear again without having done that in some capacity.”

Joining The WWE Hall Of Fame: “Obviously it would be a great honour to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. It’s nothing that I would say no to, that’s for sure.”

Memories Of The Ultimate Warrior: “Now I can look back and realise just how amazing it all was. It’s remarkable really that both of us ended up taking it all as far as we did.”

“It would seem like every three, four, five years or so we’d bump into each other. He called me twelve years ago, he needed some help with some stuff and of course I was there to help him out as much as I could. We never really kept in contact, but it was always friendly when we did. With his resurgence with WWE I was really looking forward to reconnecting with him again, and maybe even working with him in some capacity through WWE.”

Wanting To Wrestle The Undertaker: “I’ve made it clear I’d love to have one last hurrah, one last big match hopefully. And of course I’ve been outspoken about Undertaker being the opponent. I know what happened at Wrestlemania where Brock Lesnar broke his streak. I think, or at least I’m hoping, that Taker’s still going to come back and that he’s not done. If he’s not done, and he would consider doing it, I’d love to work with him one time.

“I’d love to wrestle him one time before I call it quits. Undertaker maintained a status in wrestling and the WWE that is second to none. He’s a phenomenon,”

“How about San Francisco, 2015, in April?”

  • Jose Mourinho

I’d love to see stong vs undertaker at W31 with both of them retiring after the match.

    • greatergator81

Vince would an absolute fool not to make this The Mania 31 Main Event

      • Scott

A fool to make this a Main Event? Sting s been washed up and Taker could barely stand during his entire match with Lesnar the both of them are done

        • Shut Up Stupid

Still dude, you don’t think it’d be cool?

          • Scott

I wish I could man but I just don’t see how it could be a good match. The lead up would be good but the match? No way. I saw Sting in his final TNA months and he was sow garbage there and Taker just didn’t have anything in the tank after a few slams could barely stand up and fight that match

          • Mike M

Sting is.done. If he wrestles again it would be disgraceful

          • Scott

He wrestled again in TNA, and it was disgraceful

        • Ryan McGuigan

Taker could barely stand because he was concussed very early in the match. I think he landed on his head from a belly-to-belly or something.

          • Scott

When your momentum is going you can still stand around and move normal on a concussion. Its once the adrenaline calms down that things go south. Taker could barely stand that entire match and he didn’t even take the punishment I thought Lesnar would give to him. Outside of 2 failed powerbombs, a belly to belly and 2 F5’s nothing really looked that bad

          • JA_Media

As a man who ha had several concussions (2 lol) playing football, you cannot hardly stand when you have one. If it i a minor one however, you can still function until, like you said, you cool down.

          • Scott

Yea man I don’t think I’ve ever had one playing football but I remember I got fouled on a play and knocked on my head on a basketball court which I’m sure hurts worse than landing on grass but maybe not. Anyways I continue to play through the rest of the game because I got up instantly and kept going for a game or two and on the way home the headaches and hardcore nausea started kicking in and that was when I realized maybe I did have one. But it ended up only being a head contusion

          • JA_Media

Helmet to helmet contact was where mine came from. Being a former full-back I can tell you that concussions are absolutely terrible. You don’t even want to move afterwords.

          • Scott

That’s the worst position to play football, I would hate to play that position. Its like a injury trap position so I cant say I understand your pain but I completely agree I wouldn’t want that pain dude

          • JP_West

Taker ended up in the hospital for two days post wm30. There was fear he had a severe neck injury. I have had several severe concussions and they “F” with you hardcore. I could barely talk let alone walk. The last one was during a rugby match I was in. I got plowed over which caused me to land on my head. I tried to stand up nut it was like I was on spaghetti legs and I ended up in the hospital overnight. Don’t downplay concussions like it’s something you can just shrug off. Especially if you have had them before they get worse each time that it occurs.

          • Scott

Okay just like every other injury there are levels to how hard you get bumped. Don’t you remember the Eagles linebacker a few years ago who played during a concussion and played for a few more plays and then fell out later. I got knocked straight on my head and back one time during basketball and didn’t feel “concussion” like symptoms until after the game was over and I was on the ride home. I’m not downplaying concussions but don’t sit here and act like everyone suffers the way you did either

          • JP_West

Scott I get the impression you took my words on the context that I was insinuating that you were wrong about degrees of concussions. I was merely trying to say that Taker has probably suffered several concussions over his long career. I should have clarified what I was trying to say. But if taker has suffered from them as I do believe he has had a few and you toss in his age to that equation. Well that leaves him more likely to suffer more greatly from them when they occur. I’m sorry you feel that I was being the aggressor as I was not trying to but I can see how I might have come across in such a manner. Nor was I trying to say everyone suffers the same way I have with concussions. So to close yes you are correct there are different degrees of injuries. But I believe that this was not takers first one and we do not know for sure how sever it was.

          • Scott

I’ll agree to that. He probably has. I don’t think there is a WWE wrestler who hasn’t suffered at least one. Which is all the more reason I think Taker should hang it up. Whether or not it is against Sting who wont do much “damage” to his body. Taker has done enough he did what he wanted to do which was ultimately lose at Mania. Even if it was Lesnar, we’ll find out if it was worth it at Summerslam I suppose. But from what I saw if the concussion did cause him to not barely be able to stand its time for a farewell speech

          • JP_West

Yes I agree after re watching that match for the 4th time Taker needs to let his career “Rest In Peace”

        • LordofTruth

Agreed! It’s nice to see a sensible post in regards to this fiasco. I’m tired of seeing the washed up veteran take a stab at their own dwindling legacy. Push new talent!

          • Scott

I agree with that, or better yet just put storylines around everyone that you have and stop wasting 3 hours worth of shows to not do anything

          • Pappy

It’s Wrestlemania. New talent have to earn their spot

    • Leather Face

Lmao stong. You did that on purpose

      • Diablo130356

Stong really hit my funny bone, and I have to retire before I wet myself! :-)

      • Jose Mourinho

no not exactly on purpose. It was a typo error and now seems funny.

    • OrochiMario

      Stong is my favorite wrestler!!

  • Scott

Recently saw that Lesnar vs Taker match. Taker doesn’t have anything left in the tank that match was horrible. Taker could barely stand up at the end of that match he doesn’t need to wrestle anymore. That was a match that should have happened over 10 years ago. Today…it just doesn’t matter

    • fatneal

honestly i doubt taker “doesnt have anything left in the tank”…the hhh matches were good the cmpunk match was good…i think taker played up the ring psychology card for the lesnar match…not only was he putting lesnar over as a monster but also feeding us marks with his “im too hurt n old” body language….now im not saying taker is in tip top shape but i highly doubt he couldnt go a few more years…the problem was there just wasnt anyone left after lesnar, well there was cena but how would that work?…but sting officially signing with wwe offers one last match and it will be unpredictable because the streak is gone….maybe im being too much of a mark but part of me feels this was part of the plan all along…lose to lesnar if sting doesnt sign then you retire but if he does you wrestle next year…simple as that

      • Nathan Ogre Hale

well spoken…not only that but you have to figure that a sting match is going to be way less high impact than lesnars was. im all for it one last match.

      • Scott

I understand that, but you gotta figure a guy whos wrestled 20+ years a lot can happen during that time to your body. And even just regular old age over the course of an entire year a lot of joints and muscles can stop working the way they used to especially a guy like Taker. You can think that was psychology but I just think that was time finally catching up to him. Even if Sting doest do a lot of damage to him, its still more damage his body takes. Lesnar really didn’t do that much damage either if you watch the match

        • Diablo130356

“Lesnar really didn’t do that much damage either if you watch the match”

Taker reportedly got a concussion or something very early on in the Lesnar v Taker match. Which would explain a lot about how he couldn’t perform as well as he normally does, even at his age.
Sting V Taker SHOULD have happened 10 years ago, but I would still like to see them both face off across a Wrestlemania ring. So long as neither of them get hurt doing it, because they have both done more than enough to retire with our ultimate respect.

          • Scott

Get past the concussion thing. I just said that your adrenaline would carry you through a concussion in a situation like that. 3/4 of that match was Lesnar punching Undertaker in the stomach. That match was horrible until the last 30 seconds. It wasn’t even a spot junkie match, it was just a slow motion you reverse me, I’ll reverse you punch punch punch, F5 game over. Yall are gonna see I cant argue it. We sit on here and complain about how slots get taken away from the younger guys who can actually go year in and year out and here we go again wanting a has been and a guy who has nothing left to give in a match together to be in a 20-30 minute match. But that’s just me

          • Orion

Get past the concussion thing? Do you have any idea how concussions work? Yeah you’re right….it is just you. smh

          • Scott

Yes I have an idea how concussions work man. Don’t you think a 48 year old man probably shouldn’t be wrestling anyways after a severe concussion? Come on

    • ItDoesntMatterWhatYouThink

      Today…it just doesn’t matter
Yep, to u and all the other 12 year olds!

  • fatneal

well if sing wants it then we will see the match no doubt…and it will draw more than everything else on the card easily

    • Leather Face

      Tiger Ali Sing?

  • Popcrnshower (Chris)

“How about San Francisco, 2015, in April?”

Edit: *Santa Clara, San Francisco is almost an hour away.

    • MrSplakaveli

It’s also in March. Get it together, Sting

  • Hershey Maxwell Barber

I’m still down for it, even though it wouldn’t be as good as it could of been years ago. The biggest WCW guy vs. the biggest WWE guy.

  • Tromaboy2002

Even if it was a slop of a match it’d be exciting, I’m all for it!

  • Seven Stych

I think it could and should happen. Taker and Sting will put on one Hell of a main Event! Both icons and legends of their era.

  • Bushwald Sexyface

It won’t matter how washed up each guy is. Sting vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania will be one of the biggest spectacles ever witnessed at Wrestlemania and Vince would be a fool not to do it while he still can.

    • Filthy_animals

I’ll say it … Sting v undertaker at wrestlemania 31 will be bigger than the rock v hulk hogan or the rock v cena

      • Diablo130356

REALLY a Once In A Lifetime match, not once in a lifetime until next time!

    • pwnez

The title ‘Undertaker vs Sting’ would sell WrestleMania itself.

      • Bushwald Sexyface

        Or simply, “Icon vs Icon”

        • CSSA

or Icon vs. Phenom. or Sting vs. Taker

          • Bushwald Sexyface

Honestly, they could name it “that guy vs that guy” and it would still sell all the same lol.

          • CSSA

just not even have anywords. Both of their Faces on the Poster or a poster where half of their faces meet together and the wrestlemania logo and that’s it

          • Bushwald Sexyface

That would be an excellent idea, honestly.

          • I_miss_wcw

How bout wcw v wwe 2.0

          • raVen

that was my thought…the poster would be the best wrestling poster ever made!

      • Trips486

Taker coming back would be crap what are you talking about. He should just retire. The WM30 match with Brock was a joke. It was a garbage match, There was no build up, no proper ending to the match. Taker vs anyone right now would just be dumb. As Taker legacy basically tarnished by having a part timer end his streak. Taker needs to just retire already. His career is basically done. Sting vs Taker should not happen now.

        • pwnez

Yes, him coming back (‘Taker was never gone to begin with) to wrestle Sting; a match fans have wanted to see for decades would be total “crap.” You don’t like money, do you?

          • Trips486

You seen his WM30 match. It was pure garbage and showed that Taker doesn’t have in him anymore. Don’t get me wrong Taker is one of my favorite wrestlers. This match would have been awesome if Taker still was able to put on good matches Yet he clearly showed he can not do that since last year WM match. The fact that Taker’s legacy is tarnish with a part timer ending a big part of his career is bad enough, but it wouldn’t have been so bad if the story and match was a great one to cover it up. Yet nothing about WM30 with Taker vs Brock was good. It was an awful match and had no proper ending to it. It would make no sense for Taker to come back and face Sting or whoever. It doesn’t matter how much it would sell since Taker can not put on any good matches anymore. Taker needs to just retire and that’s that.

          • Randy Klitzka

I keep forgetting that in our wonderful country all people care about is the big $$$ instead of actually quality work no matter the product. People these days sell their souls to be put on TV and turned into side show freaks on reality TV. Greed has turned this once proud nation into a big frikkin joke.

    • Buzzard Follower

nail on the head. its not about the quality in this case but the energy this match would have rock hogan was made a thousand times better by that crowd same would happen if this match takes place

  • insomniacreviewer

I’m not sure neither of them could put on a classic. Sting had to be carried in his prime even and Undertaker is showing his age.

    • WrestlingDiedIn2002

You’re a moron. Carried on his prime? Sting is one of the elite icons and wrestlers of all time. You know nothing about wrestling if you think any less. You internt guys don’t know what real wrestling is because all you know is the current product which is not even in the same league of any era before it. Sting is a legend.

      • gdaddy1971

Trust me, dude. He doesn’t know anything about wrestling. He just trolls on here trying to make himself seem relevant, but it never works.

        • Dixie Carter

I agree totally. I give the TNA hall of famer Sting my blessing to go work for WWE exclusively against Undertaker.

      • insomniacreviewer

Apparently you never actually watched Sting. I never said he wasn’t a legend but he had to be carried in most of his matches, he’s even admitted it before.

        • Bushwald Sexyface

I watched Sting in the late 80s, early 90s quite often as he was my fav wrestler as a child. To say he had to be carried back then is laughable and absurd at the same time.

          • insomniacreviewer

Even Sting has admitted he doesn’t have the best memory and had to be led through matches.

  • TheRealityEra

I hope to see one last hurrah with Taker and Sting facing off for the first and final time

  • adam

That match at mania 30 was supposed to be taker winning it. Vince changed the outcome 3hrs before the match even started. Lesnar and taker practiced for weeks on their match for taker to win. So they had a very short time to plan anything. Matches take a week or so to script or plan out to make it look good.

    • fatneal

lol id love to know where youre getting your “facts” from

      • Droppo

There are ten different versions of how that decision was made floating around the internet right now. Adam believes one of them to be a fact.

    • Mr. Beardsly

Most “old school” wrestlers I listen to complain that newer wrestlers script out their matches far too much and feel that a large part of the art form is lost that way. According to them, the best matches are improvised and based on “feel” from the crowd. It makes sense to me.

      • Diablo130356

Mr. Beardsly; While I would agree the best matches rely on the talent telling the story, rather than very controlled scripting, matches with people like Taker and Sting probably NEED to be heavily scripted because of their ages. It gives them breathing space and build up during the match, while still keeping it interesting, according to what moves they can still pull off given their battered bodies levels of fitness?

    • Diablo130356

The whole Lesnar beat the streak story and follow up has become even more pointless than it already was to start with, simply because we haven’t even seen or heard from Lesnar for nearly 6 months after it!
He SHOULD have been proudly bragging and DEMANDING his World Championship #1 contenders match. Just as EVERY OTHER wrestler would have done, and rightly so. That’s why part timers like Brock ruin the flow of WWE’s character and storyline development?
The Streak should not have been broken and Taker deserved to retire with that clean streak.
All breaking the Streak has done is given Paul Heyman yet more to shout about. As if he NEEDED anything else, it has really become the story of Heyman defeating the Streak, with his clients support.
As good as he is on the mic, even Heyman can’t polish a turd into a medal of honor!

      • fatneal

lol its july…wrestlemania was in april its barely been 3 months

  • amitt

Us wrestling fans deserve this last Match…
Best in wwe vs best on wcw. ..

  • Guest

    Still waiting!!

    • Leather Face

Lmao hilarious. But he can’t return to someplace he’s never been

  • ronjon 1000

Am I the only one who thinks ti if both men had proper time to heal and train that they would be more than capable of putting together one great match? I hear how Sting is washed up, but I mean it WAS TNA …maybe his heart wasn’t there….idk

    • Droppo

Sting needs to be training right now. He was looking a little out of shape, besides his age. No reason he can’t do better than he was in TNA last year.

      • Dajoosesloos

Ddp yoga and a good diet and 7 months from now it could be epic

      • Hollywood Cena

he’s already been preparing for this match, since the beginning of this year

  • Droppo

They can easily make up for both performers being at the end of their careers by making the match have some stipulation that makes it more interesting than a normal match. No Holds Barred… Falls Count Anywhere… Submissions Only… First Blood… Something to add a different element and let the guys work in ways that cover up their foot being halfway out the door. The match should happen, and it should be entertaining, not something we look back on like that horrible Lesnar/Goldberg match. Those guys were still in their primes and didn’t have the excuse of age, but I mean I don’t want the match to have the reputation of being well below expectations. The stipulation could make a big difference, depending on what it is.

    • http://www.rabidpictures.com yrabadi

A classic bout could work too, to be honest. What will make this match will be the crowd. Think back to Rock/Hogan at WMX8. You had a simple, very basic, wrestling match… yet so memorable due to the guys in the ring and the atmosphere. Sting/Taker could likely achieve that. The build would be solid – both showing respect for each other but perhaps playing mind games with one another… it would be a simple, straight up babyface vs babyface… I’d actually love for it to be a simple, classic, wrestling match… both guys could go out putting on a classic.

The lack of technical prowess won’t matter. The crowd will make the match. Both guys will be running on adrenaline. Both guys will shake on it at the end. It will be one of those matches we haven’t seen in a long time – golden era stuff. A true throwback.

  • Scott Kinnard

I don’t know. Personally, I think this match is 5 years too late. With the streak gone what would be the build up?

    • Bushwald Sexyface

This is one of those rare moments that a “build-up” isn’t really needed. The simple story that this would be Sting’s first and only match in WWE and would be Undertaker’s farewell match would be more than enough.

    • wear42

um…its sting vs the undertaker..what more do you need? -.-

  • Dixie Carter

Sting can save WWE from total flop and destruction.

  • CSSA

okay, here is how the story is set up. Steve Borden becomes Raw GM, keeps nagging the Undertaker for a match at Mania. Taker constantly says no to Sting, and Sting turns heel as Crow Sting and forces the match to happen.

  • God’s Diamond

The most loyal wcw guy ever versus the biggest mistake wcw ever made (letting mark calaway go).

    • KiCKASS

he wont be undertaker if wcw did no made that mistake, i would say some time things happen for something better..

  • rashad jackson

i am going to start tweeting to hhh and vince about this so that they can make this happen at WM31…hopefully undertaker will be up for the idea one last match for both of them!! both retire and go into the hall of fame!! at the same time!!

if yall wanna see this match happen at WM31 go on twitter and tweet to hhh and to vince and to stephanie!! i plan on doing it every month now i know about this…

  • Sleeper

The only way I see it Sting team up with Taker vs. the Wyatt family

    • Carey Anderson Butler

      THAT WOULD BE AWSOME!

    • http://www.rabidpictures.com yrabadi

Hm – not bad. Not bad at all.

    • fatneal

now thats gold…in fact id add kane and make it a retirement match for all 3

    • raVen

that would be great at Rumble, SS, HITC, but at Mania it has to be 1on1

  • Carey Anderson Butler

Everybody KNOWS THAT THIS WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE DREAM MATCH I REMEMBER BACK WHEN I WAS A TEEN WHEN THE WRESTLING MAGAZINES ASKED WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM MATCH I WISH IT WOULD HAPPEN!

  • MachoViper

At least Undertaker winning won’t be a sure thing which will make it a much more exciting match.

  • The One, The Only, The Ellis!

Gothic Dinosaur VS Christian Dinosaur!!!!! This would had been good like 15 years ago, but both could barely move in the ring!!!!

    • Herald

      Undertaker is Christian as well

      • Merve the Swerve

Sure he is. Shut the hell up.

      • The One, The Only, The Ellis!

I’m talking about Sting’s religion, which he is a Christian!!

  • Bryan

After watching Undertaker at Mania I can say he is done as he could hardly move in the ring and I doubt he’d get better in a year as he is finished for good most likely but I’d love it for him and Sting to have 1 last good match between them but I don’t see that happening as both are old and far from their best in the ring.

  • KHAN

this match should be named “BATTLE OF THE AGES OR “BATTLE OF CENTURY”

  • Leather Face

Can’t wait to see String in a WWE ring!

    • Merve the Swerve

Yah, String Vs The Underwear Tanker is gonna be great.

      Spell check for the fail!

    • I’ve Lost My Smile

      String? Bean?

  • Merve the Swerve

The year 2000 called and wants its great idea back.

    Choices for this match:

    – First Blood pressure medicine match.
    – Undertaker vs Sting vs Cane (an actual cane)
    – TLC Match (“Tender loving care.” Nurses surround the ring)
    – Metamucil in the Bank match. (Fiber supplement hangs above the ring, the first to reach it gets to sh*t that day)
    – Just for Men grey hair dye on a pole match

    .

  • Merve the Swerve

Good god Sting, shave that stupid soul patch!

  • Andreas Stark

We want that match!!! How would the Authority say it ” That’s best for business !!! ” and don’t forget it would be TNA Hall of Famer VS WWE Hall of Famer. Who will be the better Hall of Famer thats a tough question!? I really dont now who i would pick to win that match both are absolutly awesome :D

  • Jason

Hopefully the match will become a reality on Wrestlemania 31. I really don’t care at this point who wins…just the view of both phenoms working a match together is good enough for me.

  • Jason

    Soon!

    • Merve the Swerve

A younger Sting with a championship belt and younger Undertaker with long hair. Jeez, why not just have the WWF logo.

      • Jason

        Just for you Merve

        • Merve the Swerve

If it really was the Sting and Taker pictured above I’d be more excited for it.

          • Jason

            Never Happy

  • Lone Wolf

This is so going to happen. Besides this will be looked at as THEE main event regardless of who’s champion and who’s going against who, this is the one.

  • MrSplakaveli

I’ll be at WM31 so believe me I am praying this happens! BUT the problem I see is that it will likely be the last match for both of them, and there’s not really any logical way to send them both out appropriately. It’s obvious that Taker has to win, and I’m sure Sting is fine with taking the loss on his way out, but Taker is big on tradition too so you know he’s going to insist on going out on his back. On the other hand I think it would be perfectly justified to let Sting’s one and only match in WWE be a win, but there’s no chance in hell Vince is gonna let that happen against Taker at WM. He’d be right not to, you cant let the biggest representation of your defeated competition go over arguably the biggest representation of your company on your grand stage. Plus, that one loss needs to stay that way, otherwise the prestige of defeating Taker loses value.

The only way I can see ending this match and sending these two off with their legacies intact would be some sort of cryptic non-finish where these two ominous characters just vanish after a climactic match. I think it can be done, but it’s risky cause the audience might not receive it correctly. Any other ideas?

I don’t understand all the big deal trying to sign Sting. In my opinion
its too late. He’s too old now & can’t exactly put on the greatest
of matches. If he was going to face Undertaker at wrestlemania next year
theres no point as the streaks ended. What is there for Sting to do in
WWE? What is so important that WWE have to make bid after bid the last
few years? Hes too old now & can’t exactly contribute what he would
have been able to do in the past.

Sux they wasted the undertakers streak

  • I’ve Lost My Smile

Hmm I think if they could put together a good match and bring the house down it would be a perfect ending for them both (well actually when Taker walked out with Hunter and Shawn that was his perfect retirement moment)

Taker should just retire now. The streak has been ruined already and it makes one of his biggest parts of his legacy just garbage now. It would make absolutely no sense at all for Taker to come back to face Sting at WM if there’s nothing to fight for. Sure they can have one match and not have anything on the line but really what’s the point in that? This should have happened long ago. The fact they made a part timer like Brock ruin Taker’s streak just makes any type of return of Taker really dumb. If Sting does do something with the WWe it should be something totally different than facing Taker.

and i’d love to see that

to bad he wasted the last 10 years or so in TNA. I would have loved to see him in WWE 10-15 years ago, but he chose another path. No interest for me in him going to the WWE now, there are younger people that should be pushed.

Sting vs taker is wrong now simply because once again the creative team screwed up and let taker lose now that that happened the thrill is dead doesnt matter who faces him its all for nothing now a n d he lost to the wrong person tganks to the morons known as creative team for wwe.

Whats the point now that the streak is over?

Sting Vs The Undertaker is a match for Wrestlemania 31!
