Taz & Tommy Dreamer Comment On The End Of ECW

Published On February 3, 2010 | By | TNA News, WWE News

Last night on ECW, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that the ECW brand is being put to rest once and for all this month. WWE will be introducing a new brand, dubbed WWE NXT, which will feature the “next generation” of WWE superstars.

ECW originals Taz and Tommy Dreamer have posted messages on Twitter about McMahon’s announcement and neither sounds happy with how it was handled.

Tommy Dreamer was vague with his comments, but expressed general frustration:

“Many people have asked me why I left WWE. If you watched ECW tonight, a piece of the puzzle was revealed for my actions. Stay tuned.”

Taz on the other hand criticized Vince McMahon for not giving credit to the people who actually made ECW the force it once was. He wrote:

“So, WWE ending their ‘vision’ of ECW (thank god). ANY ORIG ECW wrestlers get a thanks? How about Paul Heyman did he get a thanks? Classy move!”

The right thing to do would be for the WWE to pay respect to the Original ECW wrestlers and Paul Heyman…but of course it will only show how WWE and their “vision” killed the infamous letters of E-C-W…

I am surprised that ECW lasted as long as it did.

ECW has been dead for many, many years .. This is a long time coming and neither man should be surprised about how the “death” of ECW was handled when they know how the “rebirth” went

I think they all need to let it go. i mean its history can change it so get over it. i also have enjoyed the new ecw. i did watch some of the old ecw and didnt find it vary good. rvd was fine, taz was cool but beyond that i pretty much sucked.

I thought his announcement was a little vague but they jumped the gun a little early, theres still 3 weeks left under the “ECW” name im sure theyll do some kind of tribute on the final show, if not id understand if they were upset but this was just the announcement of the end not the final show.

I was never really a fan of any of the ECW’s. Just glad ECW is dead once and for all.

What did they expect from a man who has no respect for anything but his own?

Even if Vince gave mention to the origins of ECW, no one in the crowd would know or care. Vince did exactly what he wanted to do with ECW, whore the name for a few bucks while it still could draw something, then dump it when it’s totally worthless. The WWE’s version of ECW was never supposed to be a remake of the original, so when the new generation of fans see ECW, they see the WWE’s version and think nothing of it; thus erasing the legacy that once was. He knew what he was doing all along, just as he did to WCW. A couple title matches that got crapped on and then the Invasion angle where the guys they brought over from WCW didn’t stand a chance of even pinching the WWF in a fight. It was the same thing, just done differently.

I think for the next three weeks there will be little video clips from moments of ECW and the final night of ECW will be a “best of ECW” show.

Everyone is bashing Vince for this, during the run of the so called “original” ECW, he invited them to his shows. Do people not remember when they were about to go bankrupt years before they did, and Vince brought the ECW wrestlers in for a while, probably a month or two anyway. ECW was nothing but a gimick for a bunch of never was, and a place for the has beens to go out to pasture. It turned into what WCW became, and what TNA is.

kj, you are right in a certain sense. ECW was targeted to be for a rowdier bunch of fans, and that is what they stuck to. I don’t see being hardcore as gimmick, but more as a way to stay loyal and rebellious to the other wrestling companies. Watch the Rise and Fall of ECW and you’ll see. Its a good documentary, one of the best from WWE, and it explains alot. Paul Heyman went through hell and back to keep the original ECW from going bankrupt, and i think the least WWE can do is give the company back to him, and have him make his own show come back, but they’ll never do that. The New VISION ECW is finally dead, and that is definately a good thing. a horrible way to defile a name, but still, Fans of Original ECW have that at heart, and thats all that matters. ECW, ECW! ECW!

the original ECW died a long time ago…and the new ECW had some good things about it, but it was only a matter of time……

Well, okay the original ECW the wrestlers tried to kill each other. Vince looks out for the health of his. Paul Heyman had a good vision but if he wanted his show he would never have sold it. Bankrupt or not.
