Hot of the heels of yesterday’s blockbuster news that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff are now officially working with TNA Wrestling, there could be another industry-changing announcement brewing.
TNA Wrestling executives (including president Dixie Carter) were in New York City yesterday for Hulk Hogan’s Madison Square Garden press conference – but that’s not all they’re in town for.
SEScoops.com can confirm that TNA execs are meeting with Spike TV today in New York about moving TNA iMPACT! to Monday nights. From what we’re told, the show would air 8pm to 10pm, head-to-head with the first hour of WWE Raw.
We should have more on this story soon – possibly later today, so keep checking back for the latest.

This would not be a smart move by TNA. They need to keep creating their own path, not try and take on what has been established. I guess Bischoff is still mad at getting his ass handed to him, and TNA is following the same pattern. Signing all the older names, even though they are mixing in enough of their own talent. Still it would not be a contest.
Oh, boy, TNA is going to epic fail the Monday Night War II if they do go to Mondays. There’s no way TNA can win it because, despite the fact it sux balls, WWE is still the poster promotion of pro wrestling (and for some the only pro wrestling they know exists), and that alone gives them too much of an advantage– plus at any time everyone knows all Vince would have to do is offer a couple millions and he could easily buy out TNA like he did WCW so long ago.
Oh, TNA, how you have truly transformed into WCW 2.0 in the recent years.
i don’t think tna is ready …
this is a bad move..
Forced to agree with you KJ. Many a wrestling fan MISSES the Monday Night Wars, and we want to see WWE pushed to change their bland product, it just isn’t going to happen at this point in time. For a pure wrestling fan, the choice may be difficult, and DVR’s will be rolling, but this isn’t smart. Two problems. 1, you’re not ready as a company to challenge WWE, and 2, your main show is not LIVE. You can’t carry a taped program up against WWE.. WWE learned that the hard way and began going live every Monday and solidified their status as the premier show. That’s really working against TNA right now. But give TNa credit eager to make moves and TRY to improve their product while WWE sits atop a pretty lonely mountain, content to give us the same BS week in and week out (Especially on Monday nights).
All I can say to this is this….Alot is gonna get VERY interesting in the next few months despite the fact that it’s still relatively early I think its good for TV and for competition though.
Head to head with RAW? If this happens TNA will be bankrupt till the end of the year (yes, till the end of THIS year). Their product right now is just weak (not that the WWE one is strong). Anyways, I think Spike will not rush this one yet, as both sides are still on talks for that second show (from which TNA are in a desperate with this huge (for two hours weekly) roster.
Yes, extremely stupid to put IMPACT on Monday night against RAW… the only glimmer of hope would be is if SPIKE keeps Thurs. night open for an IMPACT replay.
Disagree. This is the absolute right time to go against Raw. The weekly host crap has ruined Raw and ratings are pretty low, you have nobody really exciting on the brand and the same garbage week after week. TNA has much more young exciting talent and could really make a name for themselves. Im not suggesting that they will overtake WWE but they could take a decent portion of Raws audience if they handle it right.
^ Wrong! It is even said that the ratings ARE strong (3.0 to 3.6), while iMPACT! dropped to 0.9 lst week.
Raw is very weak and boring. DX has overstayed their welcome. Atleast put some new faces with them. To tell you the truth I have never watched a full episode of any TNA related shows or even a PPV. But having it against Raw could be a double edged sword. Having new viewers would be great, but it could get Vince or the creative team off their ass and try new things with fresh talent.
Looks like with the aquasitions of Eric and Hogan (and presumabley more big name talent, if the rumors are true) TNA is getting very confident in itself. Its a pretty big risk on their part considering they cant even beat ECW on a weekley basis in the ratings. Even though I think ECW is actually a pretty good show, if they are as big as they think they are they should be able to beat WWE’s 3rd show. Though i think it may be a bad idea by TNA if it in anyway pushes WWE to improve its programming and dare I say it produce something similar to the attitude era than im all for it. Im still interested in seeing who these other big names are TNA is bringing in, so much for TNA being the anti WWE though they cant say that anymore, those other possible big names are sure to be former WWE nd WCW stars.
The pros for TNA is if they got a Monday show, it’d start ay 8. Worse case scenerio, they’ll gain viewership, and it would drop off in the second hour. Remember, there’s an audience out there for TNA. During the big wrestling boom on the Monday wars.. WCW had it’s loyal fan base grow. When Nitro went off the air, WCW fans did not click over to Raw.. WWE’s rating barely went up at all! So there’s a plethera of wrestling fans that want what someone other than WWe has to offer.
But my point still, a live show is the only thing that I think can truely compete with WWE. Smart fans can read spoilers in this day and age. TNA needs to go live and makes some serious noise. WCW’s “ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN” approach captured imaginations. The live programming enabled it.
Not a smart move to go head to head with Vince right away. I think TNA needs to grow as a brand and build some characters and a promotional identity. That’s the problem with TNA they have been so inconsistent in the last 7 years. Hey getting Hulk didn’t put WCW on the map right away, they booed him out of the building for the first 2 years he was there. It wasn’t until his heel turn that people started paying attention. I think with 2 years of consistent booking, building new stars and getting a few more established stars who are willing to put over younger talent in a smart way than they might have a chance. If I were in charge the first thing I would do is get rid of the six sided ring and go back to the traditional one. Get back to basics.
i am uncertain about how i feel about Impact moving to monday night’s. TNA has all the ideas talent and wwe has the booking and talent. TNA has Horrible booking and wwe is getting boring really fast. i think it would be smart to do this but not so soon. TNA needs to get their bigger names back like petty williams and the TNA orginal superstars. The X division has the crusier weights beat hands down the knockouts kill diva’s now bck to the males we have people like styles and the fallen angel. they can stand up ot wwe but not alone. of course we have angle booker(leaving soon) morgan and those faces but yes all old wwe talent. they need their own talent to take over RAW. i feel it wont happen anytime soon.
I think I like it. This is what wrestling fans have been dreaming about since vince bought out nitro and wrecked that hope we all had for that brief moment in time. This will make vince get his act together and give tna hopefully momentum to get to were wcw was.
WCW Really kicked WWF’s ASS. However Eric and Hogan are not enough to take on RAW WWE will win the Monday Night Wars II, they need to build up steam then take the fight to RAW (Live) and try to sign some RAW Talent. If I was them my next PPV Mainevent would be Sting VS Hogan
Instead of moving TNA Impact from thursday nights, they should try and start another show for monday nights or even a different night. TNA is getting more and more wrestlers on TNA Imapct and could use another new show.
TNA needs to compete with WWE by not competing with WWE. Continue to grow their brand, make their product the best it can be. Stop trying to “beat” WWE. Still, Hulk and Bischoff is a major acquisition. Now if WWE wants to trump TNA by making their own major move, they have to do whatever they can to sign away Sting. WWE brings Sting in, this all becomes an even bigger and more intriguing new ballgame.
This could actually be very good for the industry as a whole. Short term, it will probably bring the ratings down for each show as they compete for the same market, but the total veiwership for wrestling as a whole should remain the same.
Long term however, each show will be under tremendous pressure to preform good in the ratings for money-advertizment reasons, which will lead to a much improved product for each show; every monday night, not just when King Vince feels like he a needs a short term ratings boost,
This will be long term, and sustained long term quality products, from each show, will eventually lead to a trend upwards in total viewership. It doesnt matter which show sees the bigger uptick, they will both be fighting for the same market.
When this happens, the “Casual fan” who is currenty unreliable week in and week out in the ratings, will become more of a reliable part of the market. A natural consequence of that happening will be the creation of an expanded market that is not only steady, but constantly growing, (hence the explosion of the market 96-00).
Conclusion: Get ready for war because things are about to get ugly real quick, but its going to be great for us fans!!!
Well you see ladies and gentlemen, If anybody notices right now, tna is one big wcw rehash they have everybody in the main event right now that wcw did with a few exceptions, booker is gone, and jarret is nowhere to be seen, i am surprised that this all happened however, unless tna gets some more major talent acquisitions this ship is gonna sail, and we’ll have another talent overload in wwe.
I agree with several points. Someone made the great point that Hogan was getting boo’d out of the freakin’ building fro ‘94 to ‘96.. and he was instrumental in leading in the “cool heel” era in WCW. There’s nothing left Hogan can do AS A CHARACTER to gain ratings like he’s done in the past. The 80’s have come and gone.. the 90’s have come and gone, and the Red and Yellow comeback has come and gone. Actually, it depends on how much he wants to be a part of this company. If he’s going to eb running it with Bischoff, they need to take the product on the road a little more.. Get a little further away from Tennessee.. start to dominate the southeast and then grow.
And yes, TNA needs ANOTHER show (even if it were only an hour) as opposed to moving Impact to Monday. My bet is, that’s what Hogan and Bischoff are pushing for and that’d be a good thing. Even still, I fear what those two could do to that company.
This great for the business in the short term. If the first monday night war tought us anything, it’s that it’ll be great for the fans, talent and it will force WWE to do new things differently than they are now. Sadly, We have seen a backstage ran by Hogan, Nash, Borash,Russo,Taylor,Banks and Bischoff before (WCW 2000) and it didn’t go well for anybody other than Vince McMahon.
I can see all the incomming WWE talent getting all the air time and the younger TNA talent (Joe,AJ,Sabin, ect…) being forgot about. Again see WCW. I see a second attempt at a proven failed formula Only now, everyone is 10-13 years older and only a shadow of whatever they once may have been. All is not as hopless however, The X factor is Dixie Carter and the possible return of Jeff Jerrett.
If Dixie can keep everyone in check and learn how to control the massive ego’s she’s going to deal with, it may just work out. With Jerrett and Russo loathing Hogan and Dixie and Hogan on the same side, It’s just enevitable that TNA will Implode without any help from the WWE. Dixie isn’t a wrestling promoter, she’s a wrestling fan than brought in daddy’s money (Panda Energy) to back the Jerrett’s. I see the locker room spilting into Jerrett/Russo’s Boys and Dixie/Hogan’s Boys and people will get fed up real quick. And let’s not forget about Kurt Angle. Him and Jerrett isn’t exactly on each other’s christmas list. On the other hand, Hogan in the past has stated that he would not work with Kurt in his life. Would that create a 3rd political party backstatge, or will backstabbing thier way up the card be the order of the day? or will the ignored talent testing thier “future endevours”?
Lastly, I don’t think Dixie learned her history of the business, thus she is doomed to repeat it .Hogan, exibit A, Monday Night against RAW, exibit B. The list will continue to grow. Welcome to The Monday night war 2 ladies and gentlemen! Just remember, the sequel is never as good as the original, but always has the same outcome.
It’ll surely be something crazy, and as silverleaf speculated, there might be some serious problems between the three parties mentioned. I however do not believe it will be a war between the companies, i think it’ll be a war from within tna, and it will end up destroying the company. I remember seeing on this website somewhere, someone said that bischoff and hogan wanted their own wrestling promotion, and they got it without even lifting a finger, which is unfortunatly true.
The big thing is if that things are done the right way and egos and personal goals are put to rest, this could be something to be looking forward to. They do need to build up their product for a little bit yet, then jump over to Monday Night or even make a separate show. Another thing is if there is a TNA show on Monday nights, it would have to be aired live (NOT TAPED) and aired from 8-11(sadly the same time slot Nitro had back in the day) and then they may be able to have success. Now if this yields enough success to be a great ratings competitor with WWE, Vin Man will have to get with the program and get rid of the childish and quite redundant watered-down bull s*** that is aired 4 days a week and make his programming edgier once again. This may be what pro wrestling needs and hopefully it’s a success for the long run. If this fails and fails miserably, TNA may not be the only wrestling promotion going under after it is all said and done.
