Full Details On TNA’s New Open Fight Night Shows

Impact Wrestling Open Fight Night

Hulk Hogan made a “major announcement” on this week’s Impact Wrestling regarding some unique format changes to TNA’s flagship show.

Impact Wrestling will hold “Open Fight Night” once per month, where anyone on the roster can challenge anyone to fight.

The monthly Open Fight Night shows will also feature one of TNA’s champions defending their titles – as well as a new Gut Check segment – where a wrestler not affiliated with TNA gets a chance to earn a contract with Impact Wrestling. Based on the non-affiliated wrestler’s performance, three judges (including Hogan) will decide whether he or she receives a contract.

thats it ? lmao thats sill not going to save tnas o im sorry impact wrestling terrible ratings

    • TNAoverWWE

Its a start. At least the TV title will finally start to get some recognition. Who knows maybe with this once a month thing they can Pry some ROH wrestlers to come to TNA

  • KickassBrock

Anyone else think this is going to end up in some serious injurys and a lawsuit?

    • http://SEScoops.com/ siberian_skies

      Wouldn’t surprise me.

    • Unknownplanet

every “challenger” will more than likely sign a waiver exempting liability from TNA

  • Harvey

I’m no tna fan but these sound like really good ideas honestly

    • Unknownplanet

They do but I wonder how they’re gonna afford to pay all these people

      • HeathSlaterFan

they dont have to pay these wrestler’s on Open Fight Night.  They get paid if they do well and receive a contract.

  • http://SEScoops.com/ siberian_skies

While I’m all for giving new talent chances, why not showcase the talent you already have first?

  • askbillmitchell

Ah I get it. We have to trim a little fat on the almost already non existing budget so what we are going to do is put everyone’s contract in limbo, while we scour the United States to find people who are just happy to be on TV and won’t mind being paid less than peanuts. We’ll justify this by telling the fans this is a competition where spots are earned not given. WWE has a similar system it’s called Tough Enough / NXT. When will this blow up in TNA’s face? When a Johnny Come Lately comes in greener than the incredible Hulk and gets a fluke win over someone like AJ Styles or Samoa Joe and they offer Mr. Come Lately their spot. I know what you might be thinking… ABSURD — TNA wouldn’t do that and you might be right TNA might not (in fact they have been doing the exact opposite, spending to get out of trouble and that obviously hasn’t worked) but I am pretty sure people in Dallas are ecstatic about the idea.

Something tells me this is where this is heading.

    • Guest

      Thats why they have ovw

  • GreatRedBeard

The weekly defense of the television title sounds like a great idea: an opportunity for the mid-card guys to be showcased. The open fight night sounds interesting too, but I’m afraid that it will turn into the Hulk Hogan show.

    • http://SEScoops.com/ siberian_skies

It probably will turn into The Hogan Show.  I wonder who the other 2 judges will be?

      • http://twitter.com/spiledrive Spiledrive Crawford

The other 2 judges should be The Ultimate Warrior & Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake.

        • http://SEScoops.com/ siberian_skies

Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior would be very entertaining since they just had their “feud” not too long ago.

          • http://twitter.com/spiledrive Spiledrive Crawford

yeah and Brutus is also funny as hell.

          • Systematic

            Scott steiner, hogan and chyna

          • chadepik

first person to get a tna contract>>.wait for it…please continue to hold….this will be worth the wait….

Wasnt the wcw tv title defended weekly? And the anyone can challenge anytime reminds me of the wwf hardcore title, both aspects would help keep titles intresting. Wwe needs some fresh ideas for their lower belts.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/P7QJVWXOUL3IDL4KAE624RAQLE Dwayne

WWE need a new idea for their lower belts? They don’t even care so to speak with..

    • Fckyoujohncena

Yeah it sounds like he has recycled some of the Celebrity Championship Wrestling material.  This could actually be quite good but on a show where it’s gimick-ageddon I can see things getting more complicated, confusing, irritating, and generally a bit mess. Here’s hoping though lol.

Three judges one of them being hulk hogan. So really that means only hulk will be deciding seeing as he’s calling the shots. Let’s see he called garette bischoff the future of tna; can’t wait to see who else he thinks is the future of tna.

    • Systematic

I would assume its predetermined like every thing else, or else a match could last 90 minutes

  • http://twitter.com/spiledrive Spiledrive Crawford

Does the Open Fight Night mean that I could wrestle someone from TNA is try and get a contract because I am the CWA World Heavyweight Champion?

    • Systematic

Cwa sounds familiar, whats your website? (I promise im not trying to troll)

      • http://twitter.com/spiledrive Spiledrive Crawford

We don’t have a website anymore we need a new one.

  • http://twitter.com/detroitboz metro detroit boz

trust me tna roster had there chance it time for something new and i do like wrestling on thursday even if i do dvr and only watch 10 mins of impact then forget all about it the next day….

  • Guest

    Great idea!!
That way they can not use mid carders
And bring in green rookies to put on a show and not pay them
Plus if they get injured it was at their own risk
    Thank god for exploitation

  • kquickstillsucks

TNA just gets worse and worse lol.

    • Guest

Them defending the tv belt every week is bad

      • kquickstillsucks

NO that should have been done all along kiddo. The fact they are just now doing it along with OFN is just laughable.  Oh and Dvon holding the title is a joke.

        • Guest

News flash Santino being US champ is a joke

          • kquickstillsucks

LOL DVon was on tv how many times this year? What a champion.

          • kquickstillsucks

Oh and Santino may be a joke but hes more over than the ENTIRE TNA ROSTER.

  • NoachShana626

Maybe Punk will show up and challenge the ass kisser Hulk Hogan.

  • AngelFlow

This sound like they are trying to copying WWE a lot with the Open Fight Night.

Open Fight Night is like Tough Enough and NXT, but a lot worse and especially when Hogan is part of the judges. (he called Garret Bischoff the future of wrestling) Imagine how great the roster will be, not it will be worse. The only good thing with this is that any wrestler can challenge any wrestler to a match, but knowing TNA I don’t see mid-carders benefiting from this at all.

Defending the TV Title every week is a good idea and they can show their own talent in this matches if they are intelligent enough to do it. For example they can use this to push a guy to a championship for a while and if he do it well under his reign they can or can’t not move the guy to the main event.

  • cm2012

I like the idea… I gotta say, as someone who is a proud WWE mark… this is a really great concept TNA has… I just hope that it turns out well in execution. I DO want to see TNA improve.

As for the TV title… about goddamn time… *facepalm*

  • Kbrost_1999

i think that tna is headed in the right direction towards gaining the advantage over the wwe

    • Bushwald Sexyface

      That was a joke, right?

  • Mr.ASS

damn i was hoping they were going back to 6 sides. oh well :(

I want to earn a TNA Contract, despite the crap cash they give.

    • Bushwald Sexyface

Way to set high standards for yourself. Instead of reaching for the top, you reach for the mediocre.

      • Guest

        And you talkin

      • http://twitter.com/LuisBelmontShow Luis Alejandro

I’m not going to say anything, but mediocre is far better than reaching the top. I just have to get my name registered.

Since TNA is affiliated  with OVW I feel now we might start seeing people from that Roster appearing on TNA every month for this Open Fight Night. Looking forward to seeing some different people for a change. Hopefully they show more things being done by the people they have now. Embrace the talent and not shenanigans.

  • LittleJimmyGotGot

This could actually turn out good only if they dont do something stupid like wrestling american idol

  • Psychodwarfstar

They did something similar back in ’04-’05 when they brought in Austin Aries (Starr) vs Roderick Strong, even acknowledging them as ROH stars. CM Punk, Ace Steel, Nigel McGuinness, etc during the weekly ppvs did spots for tag team gauntlets and such. Not a terrible idea since you have CZW, PW, EVOLVE, AAA, etc to pull from with pretty polished skills. Just, for cripes’sake,.PLEASE redesign that damn TV title…….

  • Bushwald Sexyface

It’s too bad Hogan’s too stupid to realize that the main thing that needs to happen is him and Bischoff disappearing from TV, permanently.

  • LittleJimmyGotGot

    Hogan’s American Idol

  • kquickstillsucks

LOL Bischoff the Clown bashes UFC ratings and ROH and then he steals their ideas. Once again proving hes is nothing more than a 2 trick pony that has NO business in the wrestling industry in 2012.

    • Guest

      Didn’t Vince steal people ideas

      • kquickstillsucks

         Name a idea he stole.

        • Phantomack

an all cage match PPV comes to mind

          • kquickstillsucks

Wowee Vince “stole” that idea or he’s just mocking TNA since Dixie Carter was too dumb to understand a joke.
