UFC 84: "ILL WILL" PPV Results

Light Heavyweight Bout –
Thiago Silva (12-0) v. Antonio Mendes (14-2)
Referee: Herb Dean
Round 1 –
Powerful kick from Mendes starts the round off. Mendes takes a quick mount with some ground and pound before Silva rolls out. Back on their feet Silva throws a kick, Mendes catches and throws him back. More ground and pound before standing up. Mendes attempts a Judo throw but Silva goes down and takes the mount. Powerful hands and elbows to Mendes. Silva continues to roll from side mount to full mount and tee off on Mendes’ face; and it is all over!
Winner via tapout due to strikes at 2:24 in Round 1: Thiago Silva.
Light Heavyweight Bout –
Tito Ortiz (16-5-1) v. Lyoto Machida (12-0)
Referee: Yves Lavigne
Round 1 –
Slow start with a couple of Thai kicks to Ortiz’ legs. Both men missing multiple punches early on. Ortiz shoots for Machida’s legs but Lyoto is able to push him off. Quick jabs to Machida but Ortiz misses. Tito shoots again and Machida once more pushes him away. Front kick by Machida, Ortiz shoots and Machida shrugs him off. Ortiz misses a jab, hook and a front kick. More Thai kicks by Machida. Swing and a miss by Ortiz. Ortiz shoots a few more times, misses some kicks and punches. Quick head kick by Machida. Ortiz shoots, Machida spins him off. Switch kick by Machida connects with Ortiz’ head, Ortiz able to shake it off. Another switch kick into a double kick by Machida. Ortiz shoots again and Machida spins, taking him down. Machida now in side control reigning down punches but the horn blows.
Round 1 Score: Machida 10 / Ortiz 9
Round 2 –
A few jabs and inside leg kicks start the round off, neither man landing anything solid. Ortiz shoots and Machida pushes him off then connects with a body kick. Front kick by Machida connects and Ortiz misses a right hook. Small combination by Machida ending with an uppercut. Machida fakesa low kick and connects with a high kick. Machida attempts a trip but Ortiz able to stay standing. Ortiz with a body kick but Machida shoves him off. Ortiz shoots but Machida able to push him down, small scramble and Ortiz takes the guard. Quick stand up and Machida connects with a small kick. Jumping knee connects to Ortiz’ chin but he’s still standing. Ortiz backs off and mocks Lyoto, Lyoto shoots and connects with a couple of punches. Ortiz answers with a body kick before the round ends.
Round 2 Score: Machida 10 / Ortiz 9
Round 3 –
Ortiz misses a kick and Machida connects with a quick leg kick. Yves Lavigne trips and rolls through. Ortiz shoots but Machida able to push him off yet again. Another leg kick by Machida and a jab to Ortiz’ head. Ortiz with yet another shoot and Machida pushes him off. Ortiz into a clench and connects with a knee. Another clench up against the fence, both men landing elbows and fists but Ortiz can not get Machida to the ground. Ortiz grabs Machida’s leg but Machida with fists to Ortiz’ head and gets out of the hold. Back into the clench against the fence, Ortiz trying to bring Machida down but Lyoto pushes him off. Multiple knees to Machida’s midsection doing no real damage. Yves breaks them up and back to the middle of the octagon. Machida with a knee to Ortiz’ midsection and Ortiz is down! Lyoto with a mount and begins reigning down punches. Ortiz able to take the guard and close it up but the damage has been done. Ortiz able to place the triangle and armbar on Machida but Machida rolls out! Both men trade punches before the bell rings.
Round 3 Score: Machida 10 / Ortiz 9
Winner via unanimous decision (30-27) at the end of Round 3: Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida.
Light Heavyweight Bout –
Goran Reljic (7-0) v. Wilson Gouveia (10-4)
Referee: Herb Dean
Round 1 –
Gouveia opens with an inside leg kick and Reljic attempts a round house but misses. Reljic connects with a side kick to Gouveia’s head. Reljic connects with multiple kicks to Gouveia’s shoulder and head. Both fighters trade multiple punches. Thai kick and a punch to Gouveia by Reljic. Another high kick to Gouveia’s head. Both men connect with hooks. Gouveia with a leg kick and Reljic counters with a stiff body kick. Gouveia misses with a left hook and takes two high kicks to his shoulder. Both men shoot in and trade punches, Gouveia with an uppercut then a body shot. Reljic grabs a full guard and brings Gouveia to the ground. Reljic attempts an oma plata but the round ends.
Round 1 Score: Reljic 10 / Gouveia 9
Round 2 –
Gouveia presses a bit with some fakes and a couple of jabs but nothing lands. Goran answers with a very powerful kick to Gouveia’s shoulder again. Gouveia presses once more with some jabs and stiff punches. Wilson trips Reljic to the ground and takes a full guard and reigns down multiple stiff punches and elbows. Gouveia ties Reljic up attempting to take a better guard against the fence but Goran is able to fight him off. They get back up and Gouveia nails Reljic with a right hand. Reljic shoots in and connects with a left hand taking Gouveia down. Quick mount and Reljic powers hammer fists and elbows into Gouveia’s head and it is all over!
Winner via TKO at 3:15 in Round 2: Goran Reljic
Light Heavyweight Bout –
Keith Jardine (13-4-1) v. Wanderlei Silva (31-8-1)
Referee: Steve Mazzagatti
Round 1 –
Both men shooting with some punches but Silva connects with a stiff punch. More shots to Jardine and Jardine is down! Silva hops on him and connects with a barrage of fists and it is all over!
Winner via KO at 0:36 in Round 1: ”The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva
Lightweight Championship Bout –
Sean Sherk (36-2-1) v. BJ Penn (13-4-1)
Referee: Mario Yamasaki
Round 1 –
Sherk shoots and grabs Penn’s leg but Penn connects with a punch and gets out of the grapple. Multiple shots delivered by both men. Penn connects with jabs and punches but nothing solid. Sherk moves in heavy but Penn is able to lock him up. Penn continues to peg Sherk with small shots. Stiff right hand connects from BJ and Sherk answers with a jab. Small clench but both men push out. Jab by Penn and a leg kick answered by Sherk. Sherk works the right hook but not landing anything, Penn picking him off with small jabs. Another stiff right from BJ with a quick jab to back it up. Sherk shoots in but BJ pushes him back and hits a quick knee. Clench work and both men exchange knees. BJ gets a couple more jabs in as the round comes to a close.
Round 1 Score: Penn 10 / Sherk 9
Round 2 –
Sherk working the left hooks and leg kicks but BJ is able to absorb them all. Uppercut by BJ and a combination leading to a stiff body shot on Sherk. Sherk with a superman punch but BJ avoids. Sherk shoots in and both men exchange multiple punches with BJ getting the front of it all. Sherk goes over the top but BJ able to push him back. Sherk shoots in again and connects with a few jabs but BJ pushes him back. Both men exchange jabs and hooks. Into another clench, small exchange before breaking apart. Sherk misses a quick left hook and BJ nails a few jabs. They continue to stand up, exchanging jabs and hooks before BJ connects with a leg kick almost taking Sherk down. Another leg kick by BJ, leading with a few jabs and into a clench, knees to Sherk’s face. Sherk shoots back in, wild punches connecting to Penn’s shoulders as the round ends.
Round 2 Score: Penn 10 / Sherk 9
Round 3 –
Normal exchange of jabs and hooks, BJ shooting in an attempt to catch Sherk’s chin. Small clench and an uppercut by BJ catching Sherk’s jaw line. Sherk closing the distance, multiple left hooks and jabs barely connecting with BJ. BJ shoots in on Sherk and catches him with another quick jab. BJ with a quick jab, Sherk tries to answer but gets caught by a couple of punches. BJ with a leg kick to Sherk, rattling his stance. More jabs, Sherk seems to be a bit off balance. Inside leg kick by Sherk, jabs by Penn. Continued exchange of jabs and hooks, Sherk with an inside leg kick again. Sherk favoring his right hand, landing a few left punches and more leg kicks. BJ with a jab to Sherk’s nose. Sherk shoots in and BJ with an uppercut and leg kick. BJ with a jumping knee knocking Sherk down, quick mount and multiple fists into Sherk’s face and it is all over!
Winner via TKO at the end of Round 3 and STILL the Undisputed Lightweight Champion: “The Prodigy” BJ Penn
