Undertaker Agrees To Work WrestleMania 29, Update On CM Punk Remaining On TV While Injured & More

- The Undertaker reached out to WWE in the past week and told them that he wants to compete at WrestleMania 29. The Dead Man is currently training for his return and reportedly pitched an opponent to WWE — it’s not Triple H or Ryback.

As we’ve been reporting, the current plan for the Undertaker at WrestleMania is for him to wrestle CM Punk in a “Respect vs. Streak” match.

- CM Punk will be appearing on WWE television in the coming weeks while he recovers from this week’s knee surgery. Punk is already able to walk around on his own power, but it’s expected that he’ll sell the injury by getting pushed around in a wheel chair, etc.

- WWE released the following video on Wednesday of superstars and divas wishing the WWE Universe a happy holiday season:

    Maybe in a shoot contest (i.e. MMA, amateur wrestling), but in pro wrestling, Taker is a far more experienced and trusted hand than Lesnar. Undertaker has been in the best match at WM for four years straight, and it’s more than just spots and whatnot. Taker is a grand storyteller in that ring, and he had two people that were able to carry their end in return. Athleticism is one thing in wrestling, but the ability to paint a picture that tells a profound story and gets the emotions of the fans going is the trait of icons and legends.

If they are going to go with Undertaker vs CM Punk i’d rather it be a non title match. I can’t see ‘Taker becoming WWE champion at this point in his career. I also doubt they would have Punk end the streak.

Maybe the idea that was pitched from Undertaker is that he wants to wrestle the Rock. That would be good too.

  Perhaps that will add some intrigue to an otherwise cut-and-dry brawl, no? If the title is on the line, and Punk would have to have retained against Rock to get there, then there might be some speculation that ‘Taker offered the streak to Punk and he accepted. There’d be a little more tension during the bout then might otherwise be there.

  Where are you getting this?! The article doesn’t mention who Taker wanted to face, just that he pitched an opponent. I’m pretty sure that opponent is Brock Lesnar which would be the biggest match since Rock vs Hogan!! Typical indy fanboy trying to hype up cm punk. As I mentioned in another comment, Punk and Taker had an extended feud and it was not very entertaining. Punk vs Taker won’t be a big draw; they can’t waste Takers’ last few matches on indy wrestlers.

    tgabriel is right, Punk has been in the WWE for years now, he isn’t known as an indy wrestler anymore. To fans he is now a WWE superstar. We get it, you don’t like small indy wrestlers, but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to. Whether you like it or not, wrestling companies is going to target these indy promotions to try and find the best wrestlers/entertainers out there.

    Why should anyone care if a wrestler found his first step in the indies or WWE’s developmental? It’s all about what a wrestler brings into the table. Most people that don’t like Cena feel the way they do because Cena’s wrestling abilities don’t fit for 12 time world champion, he’s being in the main event too often, his promos are cheesy and his gimmick is all played out.
    
    You might argue that Punk can’t draw, but the main reason for that is because WWE never built him as a true top guy like they should have. Sure, he’s been the champion for over a year now, but throughout his reign he’s main evented less than half number of PPVs than Cena did throughout the year. And WWE decided to not let Punk beat Cena clean a single time and don’t care to put a noteworthy feuds throughout his reign, save for his feud with Jericho.
    
    And should I remind you how many merchandises he has sold despite being constantly booked as the no. 2 guy that they don’t really care? Austin was the no. 1 guy in the Attitude Era but WWE let The Rock, Kurt Angle, Undertaker and Triple H to look as strong as he did, so most people could stay interested in the whole product because they didn’t have only 1 guy to cheer for.

Just going toe to toe with the dead man in a 10+ mins match at a wrestlemania considering the dead man’s age is a good rub off for punk to establish his main event status. Although i see punk as the face of the company ever since his face run of 2011 i don’t think wwe would keep him in the main event status if they can get their midcarders over. I mean i like ryback but he can’t sell against half of the roster since they are half his size unless its against a good technical wrestler like Daniel bryan.

It doesn’t say he wants to have a match with Punk. It merely states that it’s the current plan. If you ask me, my gut tells me it was Lesnar that he chose.

I thought the short rivalry between Punk and Undertaker a few years ago just wasn’t handled correctly at all. They had no business being in a Hell in a Cell match after feuding for about a month? there was no hatred between them and it was just a stupid gimmick. Punk vs. Taker with a Respect vs. Streak storyline and with Punk having more freedom on the mic these days would be more interesting, in my opinion.

I’d like to see it happen.
