Update On CM Punk’s Injuries, Talk Of Two Top Superstars Retiring

As we’ve been reporting, CM Punk has been working through several injuries in recent weeks, with Punk himself tweeting this week about his busted ribs.

A source backstage at Tuesday’s WWE SmackDown tapings from Tulsa, Oklahoma says that Punk appeared to be sick and very banged up. He wrestled United States champion Dean Ambrose at the show (in a non-title match).

There was concern that Punk suffered a concussion and there was talk going around that he hurt his back on the November 25th episode of WWE RAW.

There continues to be talk behind the scenes that both CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio are still planning to retire “sooner than later.”

No Punk please don’t retire just have a few months off. One of the only edgy characters left!

  • Jason

Yeah, CM Punk has been wrestling Independently for years before he signed up with the WWE. He has had many hardcore feuds in ROH. I’m sure he’ll retire sooner then what people think. He’s made his money.

  • pwnez

ADR retiring won’t be a huge loss for the WWE but when Punk leaves that’s going to hurt them a little bit since he one of the most popular wrestlers in the company. This shouldn’t be a surprise, Punk said he wasn’t going to be around much longer.

I agree with you there ADR I could care less about but punk is my favorite currently active wrestler and in my opinion the best thing around these days.

  • GN-0015

He should be allowed to work on a lighter schedule first, then let him make up his mind.

  • riyadviper

Punk wanna leave before his works looks f*cked up and by leaving now rather than later he will be always be remember as the bitw!!!!

  • Progressed_Now

how’s that news? Punk is always injured. that’s what he does.

CM Punk should rest until RR or WM 30.

  • Only God Says YES!

This may be rumors just spreading but im still saddened by this. i hope it aint so

  • rashad jackson

give this dude a break please WWE ever since he came back from WM29 hes been working his butt off….i say after TLC give him a month off let him return at RR..

  • AVPredator4985

I don’t want to see Punk go… but ADR can go ahead and find his way out.

  • raven

smackdown will be SOOOO much better when ADR is long gone and forgotten

  • scott

Kinda surprised by the Del Rio retirement. CM Punk doesn’t surprise me at all. He’s always injured and it shows a lot on his in ring work

  • BrahmaBullRKO

Nothing new here. Punk is always visibly banged up, and everyone knows he and Del Rio wanna retire with their bodies in one piece.

.. I said it before i will say it again .. CM PUNK has achieved every major thing in WWE , hes a 434 days modern era WWE champion , he has faced the UNDERTAKER at WRESTLEMANIA which is a dream match for most of the wrestlers , he has had major epic matches with CENA , BRYAN etc etc .. if PUNK wants to retire on good terms with his body , then thats the time to do it .. Nonthless , he will go down in history as one of the most polarizing , impactful wrestlers of all time .. !! and as for ALBERTO , nothing much will change with him being gone , but he is a descent wrestler !! ..

  • Bro88

Punk has achieved all the major things to do in WWE except win the Rumble and Main event Mania. He doesnt need to do those things and will go down easily as one of the biggest stars of this era. Hate to see him go but love to watch ADR disappear.

Goodbye Edge, Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels, Batista, (The Rock – part time, Brock Lesnar part time, Undertaker part time) Kurt Angle,….. the depushing of Daniel Bryan, CM Punk wrestling while being ‘HURT’, Cena as a face being shoved down our throats, the low buyrates, and low ratings, … signs are definitely not looking good for WWE right now.

Jeff Hardy still wrestles on TNA/Impact Wrestling. Same with Kurt Angle, Mr.Kennedy, Dudley boys

I hope if Punk does decide to retire soon, he’ll still come around a few times a year for a match…He is one of the top guys and for fans to see him go so early in the WWE, it will make him a even bigger draw later on just like Austin is/was.

Punk retiring so early? Unfortunate but, nevertheless, that’s how legends are remembered.

Punk (aka Phillip Brooks) should retire for few months or a year before signing on to fight in the UFC as he has the skills to fight in the octagon. Would love to see Triple H & Dana White do a cross over promo on some UFC fighters competing in WWE and vice versa. Imagine Holly Holm fighting Natalya Niedhart or AJ Lee (the other of the two also fights Rhonda Rousey or Miesha Tate). Kimbo Slice vs. Big Show will be a crash collision between the two big men in NFL like fighting.

  • PunkFan#1

Punk’s contract expires next summer, and he said once that he was going to take a three year long break and then return to the company that made him a star. Don’t know if he meant ROH or WWE, but he indeed needs a rest, and hope he doesn’t quit for ever, cause he is the BEST IN THE WORLD!

Instead of overworking him, they should have him in a promo with Shield or the authority or both on RAW. And let him rest until Sunday on TLC.

  • Teddywestside

Back in 2011 I thought WWE needed him at every show. But now I think he can take time off we still have Daniel Bryan Goldust and Cody Rhodes the wyatts and the shield so I wouldn’t mind.

man it’ll be a sad day when Punk announces his retirement…Alberto however…mehh, wouldn’t be that fussed if he said he was retiring tomorrow tbh…=/

  • Marinersforever71

Have a feeling CM Punk will move on to UFC after retiring from WWE for few months or a year later. He would match up well against Chanel Sonen for Punk’s debut match in the octagon (by going by Phillip Jack Brooks). Brooks-Sonen rivalry would create a big buzz like Rousey-Tate.

  • Kevin G. Wolfe

How about we make him the GM of Raw?
