At first I was mad that Rock won but after thinking it through, I see that it was the right call. CM Punk couldn’t lose that belt to anyone else but Cena and Rock, since Punk was on a level that only they reside in currently. Also add the fact that there was nowhere left for Punk to go as champion other than dropping the belt. I say WWE made the right choice as now it frees Punk to go even further then he already did back in 2012, but for the love of the almighty please book a triple threat match at mania WWE. Cena-Rock 2 would just feel like a random match at mania. This is the type of that needs allot of time to develop and one month will not do it
I would pay to see Punk vs Cena vs Rock. not Rock vs Cena II. In that situation either Punk or Cena would win. It would be even bigger for Punk if he won that.
A triple threat would be great, but I have a horrible feeling we’re just building back up to Cena being champion and introducing that new belt.
I don’t think so, WWE always does the predictable to set up the unpreditable. I now see that WWE just got all the idiots talking by making a predictable while the smart fans truly look underneath the surface. I think this is just a way to give Punk the torch.
“Just a way to give Punk the torch” I’m intrigued, please explain lol
Punk is currently the main topic of conversation going into Mania and is going to be the centerpiece for the Mania build just as Rock and Cena have done before him. I see this as a move to get Punk fully established as a star on their level.
Rock winning the title will probably BRING a good portion of the fans back who stopped watching it because it got stale and fizzled out after the attitude era died and went PG and Cena being the new golden boy made alot of adult males give up on the product altogether… these same fans have yet to see how great guys like Punk, Daniel Bryan, Ziggler ect are because they stopped watching, maybe people should stop to think. Rock winning the title could be a brilliant thing for this company. Old fans from the past tune back in to see Rock and in the process they see guys like Punk and think, holy shit I’m sticking around now these new guys are awesome…. Just a thought… Here’s hoping
The Rock winning the title looks like a terrible idea at face value but when you truly examine the situation it makes perfect sense. Punk was in a position that wouldn’t allow for him to just drop the belt to anyone and The Rock was a good option for WWE to take. This now frees up Punk to both chase after the belt again and it allows more room for his character to truly shape out. The title was just dead weight for him at this point; losing it was the best thing possible for him.
Punk’s reign is something to be proud of. People shouldn’t be mad that he lost, he had an incredible run.
Also add the fact that he’s going to get another title reign again since that one ran its course.
Asskisser vs Asskisser II, Once in a Lifetime, again!
The Belt is officailly meaningless when am part time wrestler can win it. ongrats WWE for giving the title to Rocky and showing that all current stars cant beat Attitude Era legends. This is passing the torch??? I got back into WWE cuz of Punk and his reign. Looks like im done. 434 days of watching WWE…not that bad. Hit me up when a current superstar not named John Cena wins and Ill watch again
WWE won’t bat a tear knowing you stopped because of one thing. Trust me when I tell you this, when one leaves ten more will take the missing spot
Really dont care what they think or anyone else. This is a forum for comments and I wanted to state that. Simple as that. Plus Ill be happy knowing that whoever takes that spot knows nothing of wrestling so thats fine. WWE needs marks to buy their merch and defend Rock for wrestling 2 days a years and being champ. Wrestlemania will suck hard this year especially since it looks like every match will be some old guy from an era long since passed v.s. a current star whose work all year doesnt matter cuz they’re thrown into a match with an old boring relic from the 90’s. Ah well
Hey, you are as entitled to your opinion as I am in calling myself GodsLoyalSon. But what I want you to know is that your not making yourself out as a wrestling fan because you need something to give you a reason to watch. How do you know that Wrestlemania will suck? No matches were booked thus far, only rumors and fans taking things to far out of context exist at the moment. This years Wrestlemania could be just as good as last year but your denying yourself the chance to look foreward to it by buying into rumors. As of right now the only matches that have a possibility of coming to fruition is a triple threat between Cena/Rock/Punk (A match I REALLY want to see happen), Ziggler vs Jericho for the WHC or Ziggler vs Del Rio WHC, and Ryback, Orton and Sheamus vs The Shield. Just relax and watch what happens, you may find yourself enjoying the product.
Oh and before I forget, The title is very far from being meaningless because in hindsight Rock was the only one that could take the belt from Punk. You see while that title reign was great, it greatly hindered Punk to the point that he couldn’t lose it to just anybody and that would polute any fued he entered while on that title reign. Punk was on a reign that basically stated that he needed to be beat by a major player; those being Cena, Rock, Triple H, Undertaker, Jericho, Orton and Lesnar. Cena is at a point where he doesn’t need a world title reign anymore. Triple H is an official now and is strickly needed for special matches. Undertaker can’t do it because he’s only needed for Mania. Jericho is busy with Ziggler and will most likely stay within the Heavyweight title division. Orton is turning heel. Lesnar is just like Triple H in being special match material. Rock was the only one that could do it and now we can get to see something great with Punk. If you thought he was good as Champ, wait till you see him chase after the belt again.
“….and showing that all current stars cant beat Attitude Era legends” Look at WWE’s current roster, how in the blue hell did you possibly assume they can compete with the ‘attitude era’ roster?
Yes enjoy you idiot WWE Universe, your new WWE Champion… who the only thing he cares is about himself and not you! How in the hell Rock demands a WWE Championship match since he is a part timer??? And how in the hell you cheered when McMahon came to confront CM Punk? Wasn’t this guy that 1 year ago you booed him??? I mean you WANNABE WWE fans are sluts? of sheeps who are going on what WWE wants to do. I hope Rock’s wwe championship reign to be so short!
waaah waaah Punk lost, waaah waaah. You’re one of those idiot fans who don’t see the bigger picture, Rock as a champion = more ratings for the show = (somewhat) more ppv buys = bigger paychecks. It’s all part of a storyline dude, quit crying and enjoy the damn show.
Yes….. wahhhh wahhhh wahh… you are doing like a little jimmy not me. I am expressing my point of view you nerd. And you are thinking like Mcmahon dammit. High ratings, high ppv buys. Are you a McMahon puppet? And it is the creative team’s fault about not having the right ratings you fool not CM Punk’s. And I will enjoy everybody to take Rock’s belt (even Cena).
LMAO did I strike a nerve there? & no where in my previous comment did I blame anyone for the ratings, you’re just another tool who’s butt-hurt coz their “fav wrestler” did not win. Learn to Read ‘fore posting.
i just hope to god that John Cena loses to The Rock at Wrestlemania otherwise bye bye WWE and hello TNA
I can see the argument with both sides. If it we substitute The Rock for Stone Cold, would there even be anyone complaining? I’ve seen comments where a heel CM Punk would have to lose to Stone Cold if they ever wrestled. Is it because he won the title or defeated CM Punk that has everyone upset?
I’m reading all the comments up here and its like no one has seen the story that was told in the match…. CM Punk beat the Rock last night.. But the Rock won the match.. Punk was working his ass off the Rock only got in a few moves.. Too bad the table Rock Bottom spot got blown.. that wouldve added so much more to the match. I can basically list every move Rock did last night, but it was still great I loved every minute of the match to the shield attack to the restarting of the match I really wished Rock would’ve ended it with the Rock Bottom instead of the people’s elbow. It was a great match .. Punk did his thing and The Rock did his. Looking forward to Raw tonight and anxious to see what a Rock title reign will look like in 2013
