WrestleMania XXX News: Planned Main Event, Expected Attendance

– The planned main event for next April from New Orleans is The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar. Paul Heyman alluded to the blockbuster match on Twitter this week, writing, “I hear @TheRock has committed to @WWE #WrestleManiaXXX, and boy do I have an opponent for him!”

WWE has been purposely keeping Brock Lesnar and The Rock away from each other as best as they can, although they will both be on RAW together the week before and after WrestleMania 29.

– The all-time attendance record for the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is 78,344 for the 1997 Sugar Bowl game, however the building has been reconfigured since then. A sellout for the New Orleans Saints football team is 73,209. For a WrestleMania, since so much of the stadium is blocked off for the stage and other production equipment (more than what they make up by having seats on the field), a legitimate estimate of how many fans they can accommodate will be around 65,000 fans. WWE typically exaggerates the WrestleMania attendance by up to 10,000 to announce they have broken the venue’s all time record.

I’ve always wanted to see The Rock vs Shawn Michaels!!!

      Fuckin’ A.

    • the_unknown

has the rock ever wrestled shawn michaels? just curious.

      • Sam Jurtens

Never one-on-one. They were in a Triple Threat once along with Triple H, but surprisingly they’ve never faced each other. Reportedly one of them (I’m thinking Rock, but I’m not sure) refused to do a match with the other.

        • malcyboi

No they’ve never been in any match together, when was this triple threat u talk of? What show our ppv was it? It never happened, Shawn michaels was referee in a couple of their matches but thats about it

        • tiran66

You have it backwards. Michaels never wanted to work with Rock. They never got along back in the day.

          • aj2345

Actually Rock didn’t want to work with Michaels because Shawn disrespected Rock’s grandmother when she started promoting when his grandfather died. They just buried the hatchet over that a couple of years ago.

          • cappa37

No you are wrong. The Rock never wanted to work to Shawn Michaels because when the Rock was a teen he saw Shawn being disrespectful to his grandmother. He said he wanted to kill him right then and there but was held back. On top of that the Rock and Bret Hart are close. Bret took the Rock under his wing when he came to the WWE (thus the Rock uses the Sharpshooter). Furthermore, the Rock’s rise was around the same time as HHH and Shawn was always trying to stop the Rock’s push and put the lime light on his buddy instead. The history is deep. I will never ever like or respect Shawn; he is the lowest dirt bag in the business.

you are absolutely 100% right…..many people here don’t know about this

          • Macc Frost

i doubt HBK will ever wrestled The rock , Rock probably still dislike HBK and HHH , HHH probably will be hating knowing that match will be a big draw , isn’t ironic when HBK came bacc in 2002 Rock left to do Movies part time wise, HHH married steph in 2003 , Austin had to retire due to neck injury , rock was doing movies and then his contract expire in 2004 , i herd guys like HHH , Johnny Ace and steph thought Rock would Flop in hollywood then come crawling bacc to The wwe but it back fired on them , i bet you Rock leaving The wwe was a Great thing because HHH and HBK will still using politic’s, too much backstage Drama and what if Rock stayed and HBK cross path again who knows what would have happen , Rock puts over a talent , HHH buries a Talents , correct me if i’m wrong , HHH and HBK would have been trying to screw with the rock again if he had stayed

How did Michaels disrespect The Rock’s grandmother???

          • Lester Foxx

HBK was an a**. But he admitted that already. I wouldn’t call him an a** now since he isn’t afraid to admit his own mistake.

Here is when: After Michaels worked Hogan at SummerSlam 2005 he did a interview stating now that he would like to have a match with The Rock. Rock did a interview a week later that he has never had any interest working with Shawn Michaels and (at the time) he was retired.

        • Jason

HBK returned in 2002. When he left in 1998 they were both heels. He reffed a couple of HHH v Rock matches but they HAVE NEVER been in a scheduled match.

Rock vs Brock II would be great. I would also like to see Taker vs Cena as he’s one of the few big name opponents Taker has yet to face at a ‘Mania.

    • WWEFan4Life

I don’t know why but I have always wanted to see Cena V Taker in an I Quit match at wrestlemania.

      • http://twitter.com/AJCampbellNYG Andrew Campbell

It would have to be a fight to the death then because Cena hasn’t tapped or said “I Quit” in atleast 9 years lol. I can’t remember the last time Taker tapped or gave up either to be honest.

        • WWEFan4Life

Exactly, that is why I have been always wanting to see it.

    • http://twitter.com/StupidSobi SOBI

If they let ‘Face Cena’ end the Streak
i will probably Curse until my throat bleeds

      • http://twitter.com/AJCampbellNYG Andrew Campbell

Lol It would be one of the biggest upsets in wrestling history and would make Cena even more unpopular than he is now.

YES! (Points up) YES! (Points up) YES! (Points up) YES! (Points up)

  • Shucky Ducky Quack Quack

too bad for CM Punk after that rant he hasn’t main evented mania, wats funny is miz main evented before him…seems next year even if he gets stone cold he will not be in the main event….

    • http://twitter.com/Jonesy27 Peter Jones™

I think if CM Punk fights Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 30 that will be the main event. It doesn’t matter whoever fights in the “actual” main event as I think there is more interest in Punk v Austin.
To be honest if it was just one fight and it was Punk v Austin I’d be happy enough to give them my money :-)

  • HRMA

Oh for the love of pete…it’s a sign of the times when the Rock, a part-time guy at best who has to be a transitional champion just to put the belt back on Cena, gets three Wrestlemania main events in a row.

  • R982

The Rock vs Randy Orton!!! What’s the hold up?!!

    • http://twitter.com/ImZackMorris You Wish

      Common sense.

      Common sense.

  • http://twitter.com/ImZackMorris You Wish

Once this WM29 fails to top the PPV ratings, Vinny Mack is gonna go into hysteria and demand Rock vs Brock to be announced the night after like Rock vs Cena.
