WWE Changes Plans For Daniel Bryan’s Push, Note On Cena/Ryback, SSlam

daniel-bryan

Originally, the plan in WWE was for to face for the WWE Championship at both the upcoming and pay-per-views. According to reports, however, it seems as though the tentative plan currently is for Bryan to win a briefcase at and then announce that he is going to cash it in to challenge Cena at SummerSlam.

Speaking of Cena, there was talk of doing one final match with so Cena could get a clean pinfall victory over him, but those plans were nixed.

I’d say that Henry coming out and stating his case for Cena’s belt might have suggested that Bryan might not be getting a chance for timebeing.

  • Stephen

Following RAW, I would hope to see another Daniel Bryan/Randy Orton match at Money in the Bank with winner next in line to face the WWE Champion.

    • yrabadi

Might still happen. Orton/Bryan seem to be building toward a feud. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re on a one-on-one at MITB instead. The again, they could both be thrown into one of the MITB matches.

      • Stephen

One of… Maybe its just me, but I would prefer it if they only had one Money in the Bank match, and the winner would cash-in on either champion.

        • yrabadi

I feel this way too. But my thinking is that WWE is lazy, and by having two MITB matches, not only does it take care of another match on the card, but it also takes care of an additional storyline for another talent.

I also think it’s kind of nice – gives another talent a rub of sorts. Cash-in’s are fun too, more often than not. But I really wouldn’t mind only having one…

          • Stephen

I agree that they are fun, but for me MITB is an illegitimate title win and when you look back, MITB wins are not as helpful as winning the title in a pre-scheduled match. Most new champions are now crowned through a MITB cash-in and don’t feel earned, to me anyway. When you think of people winning their first world title, having MITB practically guarantees its going to happen. I liked when Chris Jericho or Eddie Guerrero or Mark Henry won their titles because while you may have wanted them to win, you didn’t 100% believe it. When Ziggler’s music hit the night after WM, I stood up off my couch and cheered, but at the same I knew it was going to happen.

          • Seth Bob

Funny you’re discounting MITB wins here when you were just touting Edge’s MITB wins on another post. Hypocrite.

          • yrabadi

Which is going to make it all the more crushing when that one guy loses on the cash in for the first time.

  • 7 year old boy

I actually hope that Mark Henry wins, because he deserves it a lot more then Daniel Bryan. I guess I am choosing a heel over Cena because in 24 days I will be 8 years old. Possible heel turn?

    • http://www.twitter.com/SouthKidd803 SavageBomber

You’re turning heel? My birthday is Sunday!!! I’ll be 22. I’m old =

      • Forceton Banfodder

Talk to me about old in 15 years.

        • 7 year old boy

Wow uncle you still watch wrestling?

          • Forceton Banfodder

If all the old farts in wrestling still watch, why shouldn’t old fans too? Like I’ve said time and time before, I’ve been hooked on Wrestling since 83 when Hulkamania really started to run wild.

          • 7 year old boy

I was never a fan of Hogan. The man was lame and corny and everytime he cut a promo all he does is scream “brother” nonsense. His matches never really impressed me.

          • Forceton Banfodder

Were you a 7 year old boy in 1983? I ate my vitamins and I was impressed with what his 22″ pythons could do to you when he got his hands on you. I watched him slam Andre, King Kong Bundy and even Earthquake. Though by the time Earthquake came around I wanted Hogan to lose more than I wanted him to win.

          • Jesse

If you are truly 30 as you say, you would’ve been BORN in 1983.

          • Forceton Banfodder

Where did I ever say I was 30? Do the math, I was 7 in 1983.

          • Roger Penland

so, that makes you 37. you’re STILL not the oldest that comments on here…..

          • Forceton Banfodder

Oh darn really? Shucks… now I don’t know what to do with myself anymore. Oh wait, you confused me for someone who gives a sh*t.

Oh and congrats on being able to add.

          • Roger Penland

Thank you sir, have a good day.

          • Roger Penland

No need for the snarky comments. and by saying that, you prove that you do give a “sh*t”.

          • James Harding

huh. Am i missing something. 37 yrs old/1983 ?????? . Sorry my brain spontaneously com-busted wondering why your elementary math teacher was allowed to teach.

          • Roger Penland

            No. I’m saying it’s been 30 years since 1983.
he was 7 years old in 1983.

            30 + 7 = 37.

          • James Harding

My bad dude lol. let’s just say I can’t read and move on lol.

          • 7 year old boy

Nah my brother shows me old videos of Hogan promos and it just annoyed me out.

          • Forceton Banfodder

It was a different time different age… *sigh* All you kids with your long hair and your Dan Fogelman records… You just don’t know what you were missing back in those days.

          • 7 year old boy

Oh yes I really did miss out :( Big steriod, lame, corny, and half bald dude with amazing wrestling skills. Damn matey :(

          • Michael Carter

Yep, I started watching in 83 as well. I didn’t dislike him, but I was never really a hulkamaniac. Something that most fans today don’t understand is territories were just as big as WWF in ways. I was a magnum t.a. and r&r express guy.

        • 7 year old boy

Wow uncle you still watch wrestling?

      • http://twitter.com/TheSobi SOBI

        Yes me too
I also turn 22 this july

    • pwnez

You’ve been 7 years old for over a year now. What’s the deal with that?!

      • Forceton Banfodder

I’m looking forward to heel 8 year old boy.

        • pwnez

He is going to be 8 years old for the next two years.

          • Forceton Banfodder

Your avatar and that made me lol

      • 7 year old boy

How can that be possible I’ve made this account 8 months ago. Good sir are you as old as Mr. Banfodder as well?

        • pwnez

8 months? It seems alot longer then that. We all know you’re not really 8 but keep track of when your fake birthday is at least!

          • 7 year old boy

Dude check my account history if you have to, I am not lying :(
I’ve been saying for a long time my bday is on July 15!

          • Forceton Banfodder

This is your epic set up to a heel turn, amirite?

          • 7 year old boy

Not sure anymore pwnez is being really mean :(

          • pwnez

How can you be a heel if you get upset so easily? You’re supposed to be the mean one.

          • Forceton Banfodder

            ^ He’s right.

          • 7 year old boy

            Then I’ll be a face for 10 years :)

          • Trevor

You need to to relax and lighten up.

          • pwnez

LOL @ you taking my comment seriously. Banfodder and the 7 year old both knew this but you ruined it. Thanks, buzzkill.

          • Forceton Banfodder

            Internets is srs bzs

    • pwnez

You’ve been 7 years old for over a year now. What’s the deal with that?!

    • http://twitter.com/TheSobi SOBI

Change your Birthday to Feb 29
It will be easier for your gimmick :D

    • Steve Williams

I hope you die before that

  • 7 year old boy

I actually hope that Mark Henry wins, because he deserves it a lot more then Daniel Bryan. I guess I am choosing a heel over Cena because in 24 days I will be 8 years old. Possible heel turn?

  • pwnez

Whether it’s Henry or Bryan, i’ll be happy if one of those guys wins the WWE title.

    • Forceton Banfodder

I’ll be happy if anyone different moves into the position and Cena starts relinquishing his top spot. 10 years is too long. Too long for Hogan, too long for Cena.

      • Roger Penland

so, that whole year and a half that he wasn’t in the WWE Championship scene counts as part of the 10 years?

        • G.I.R.L.

That’s not what he means; Cena was still in the top spot: having main event matches at PPVs while the world title matches were treated as lesser.

        • Forceton Banfodder

He was still the face of the company. Was he not?

          • Roger Penland

He was, but MOST of those ten years you’re talking about, he was champion. WAS HE NOT?

          • Forceton Banfodder

I really fail to see what point you’re trying to make. Of course he was not champion the whole time. Cena hasn’t been champion the whole time either. I’m talking about the top spot in the company. The number 1 guy. What part of this are you not getting?

          • Roger Penland

So 10 years is too long for Hogan, and Cena, but what about Sammartino? Backlund? AUSTIN?

          • Forceton Banfodder

Sammartino and Backlund were a different time and era before VHS and weekly national television shows. And Austin was not the top guy for 10 years straight, if anything Austin shared that spot with Rock. Both guys didn’t hog the light for 10 years straight.

          • Donte Shoshona Gopual

lol you guy are for getting austin was only the top guy for 6 years believe it or not. 98′-03′

          • Forceton Banfodder

Yeah I know. That’s why I said he was NOT the top guy for 10 years straight.

          • Donte Shoshona Gopual

yea dont worry im siding with you

          • Cujo999

People forget that Austin’s run at the top was extremely short. He defeated HBK for his first WWE title win at WMXIV on March 29, 1998 and his final title run ended at the hands of Chris Jericho when he unified the WWE and WCW titles to become the Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion at Vengeance on December 9, 2001. That’s only about a 4 year run at main event status. It’s also important to keep in mind that the WWE title changed hands 25 times during that 4 year period, with Kane, The Rock, Mick Foley, The Undertaker, Triple H, Vince McMahon, Big Show, Kurt Angle, and Jericho all winning the strap during the Austin Era.

In Cena’s case, he won his first World title[the WWE title, in his case], on April 3, 2005 at WM21. His 11 WWE title reigns and 2 World Heavyweight Championship reigns have combined for a total of 1,238 days and counting. By comparison, Triple H’s 13 title reigns have combined for 1,155 days spread out between his first WWE title win at Raw on August 23, 1999 and his last reign that ended on April 26, 2009 at Backlash almost a full decade later.

          • Forceton Banfodder

But I would never really lay claim that Triple H was ever the “Top” guy in company. He was certainly favored and in a high position for a long time, but there was always someone higher on the totem pole as far as popularity goes. Austin, Rock, Cena. That’s I think why I actually enjoyed the 1906-2003 era so much more… there was never just one guy who was the top guy. There were several.

But I just can’t say there was ever a Triple H era like there was a Hogan era or a Cena Era.

Of course, the phrase, Triple H era is going to take on a completely different meaning over the next few decades isn’t it?

          • Thomas-24/7 (Mutascale)

I’ve been watching old episodes of Raw during the McMahon-Hemsley era, and it’s shocking to see that “this is going to happen in the forcible future.” Yes, the McMahon-Hemsley era was a storyline, but if you reflect 10 years later, and so on, it’s disturbing that those two may be taking over the company whenever Vince’s time is over.

          • Forceton Banfodder

If Shane had never left, I would never have believed it would be Triple H and Stephanie taking over the company. But seeing as Shane is worth more than his whole family now, I don’t ever seeing him coming back to the “family business” to make essentially chump-change compared to the billions he’s raking in with the Chinese media markets.

          • Thomas-24/7 (Mutascale)

Shane coming back to the WWE in office is pointless, but I do see him making appearances and working a program, if his schedule will allow it and if he dies his hair- I probably won’t take Shane seriously if he moon walks to the ring with grey hair. I don’t see WWE shrugging Shane off, after all, his father owns the company. Then again, Vince has done crazy recently.

          • Thomas Wing

If Triple H ever had a definitive era it would have to be from August 2002 to June of 2005 during the highlight of Evolution. Only a small amount of 2 years & 10 months on top of the RAW brand. The majority of that time was as WHC. I know that is a short amount of time but in my opinion that is the closest thing he will to any kind of “Era”

          • Mr_DJ

            1906 eh?

          • James Harding

first of all Austin wasn’t champion for the whole time. Are you forgetting about the Rock and HHH. And Sammartino and Backlund were fighting when there were no weekly television show like there are today.

          • Bob Singer

Sorry to break your bubble, but I was watching weekly wrestling in the 1960s and 1970s in the SF Bay area. “Roy Shire began promoting wrestling in the Bay Area in early 1961, and
quickly turned a once dormant region into his own personal goldmine. Shire’s formula was simple but effective…he produced a weekly pro-wrestling television show for KTVU Channel 2, and used it to showcase his talent as well as to publicize matches he was staging all over Northern California, with the monthly Cow Palace show being his crown jewel.” — http://thedaleyplanet.net/articles/archives/676

That included folks like Backlund and Bruno as well as Ray Stevens, Pat Patterson, Peter Maivia, Rocky Johnson, Pepper Gomez, Bobo Brazil, and other wrestlers of the era…

So these guys had the same workload as the current era.

          • MOON CENA

Lol no need to waste your time here man !! .. They simplyyyy HATE cena .. and they will say whatever fuckklogic they can find and put together just to degrade him and to criticize on him , AND YET CENA is stilll face of the company , wether they hate him or love him , his world titles are inevitable .. These haters or critiques stand at no point being a roadblock in cena’s success , #RISEABOVEHATE .. choke on watching john cena getting more title shots in future .. choke on that Lmao ..

          • Forceton Banfodder

Yeah, I’ll wait and see if Triple H’s ego will allow John to win one more world championship.

          • MOON CENA

VINCE apparently is very high on CENA , and vince’s decision over shadows triple h’s decision .. hence there are more title reigns to come . Triple h’s ego only works on talent that come under him .

          • Cujo999

Meh, it’s pretty much a forgone conclusion that Cena will have a 14th title reign. He’s only 36 and will probably be working full-time until he’s 40. They will definitely give him one more title run after this one, and probably two. The only real question in my mind is if they will allow him to tie or surpass Ric Flair’s 16 World Championships. Sadly, they might, as putting the strap on him is the only way to keep 3/4 of the audience interested in him.

As for The Game, I really don’t see his ego being too big of an issue in it. After all, with the way he’s positioned and his popularity, if he wanted to break Flair’s record, he would have done so already, and he has already done a ton of major jobs to Cena to put him over as “the guy.” It’s not like he’s losing sleep over Sting being a 14xWorld champ.

      • http://twitter.com/TheSobi SOBI

What I don’t get is, If they want Cena to be champ so bad
make him the WHC and have other guys compete for the wwe title

        • Forceton Banfodder

It’s just my opinion, but I think it’s a Triple H ego thing. He doesn’t want anyone to have more WHC title wins than him. And definitely not more world title wins.

Also, I think there’s something to do with the WHC being perceived as the #2 Championship and Cena being the top guy.

          • http://twitter.com/TheSobi SOBI

Yeah but HHH is a 12 times champ and Cena is 11 times
I think Cena will surpass HHH but hope Flair’s 16 times remains safe.
As for the ranking of the titles on that I agree

          • Forceton Banfodder

Actually I just looked it up and they’re both 13 time world champions. So we’ll see how big Triple H’s ego is if he let’s Cena win another World Championship after this run.

Personally, I’d rather they just let Cena step aside and bring up some new talent. Cena can still be a draw without having to be the “Champ”

          • Donte Shoshona Gopual

            i know ask HBK

          • Forceton Banfodder

Yeah, HBK was great at being a draw and not having to be a champion.

I remember reading somewhere that HBK really didn’t enjoy the extra details of being the WWE Champion like the extra traveling for interviews, charity events, autograph signings, etc… and that was one of the reasons he never wanted to be pushed into becoming the WWE Champion again.

However Cena can’t get enough of that stuff. Neither could Hogan. Loved the attention those two did.

          • $li€’ Ri€ ‘Da Rulah

Actually John Cena’s a 11x WWE Champion, and a 2x WHC, while ‘The Game’ is a 8x WWE Champion, and a 5x WHC! Also, OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED, Ric Flair IS A 16x World Champ, however, UNOFFICIALLY, Flair has 21 COMBINED reigns as a World Champion!

          • $li€’ Ri€ ‘Da Rulah

            Triple H has 5 WHC wins…..Edge has 7.

          • Forceton Banfodder

Yes, I figured that out already.

    • http://twitter.com/TheSobi SOBI

I’m feeling kind of positive this time
and I think they will give Henry the wwe Title
      atleast I hope so

    • Ayatollah of rock N rolla

I’d like Henry to win but be battered and Daniel to cash in and feud with Cena or who ever is gunna be in the title picture

  • pwnez

Whether it’s Henry or Bryan, i’ll be happy if one of those guys wins the WWE title.

  • chirs

John Cena is better than Daniel Bryan

    • riyadviper

      No shiit

WWE operates on the fly with almost everything they do. Very few things are planned in advance anymore. So these plan changes or discussed plans are never concrete. They even have a habit of changing up the show on the same night, just like WCW did. Why even bother believing these news updates?

  • DigitalWWE

I think it’s funny that when people said have Ziggler win the case again people were boo hooing but now it’s Bryan win the case and everyone is all for it lol.

    • Forceton Banfodder

I just read through the comments, and I don’t think anyone has said anything about Bryan possibly winning the briefcase.

      • DigitalWWE

This entire article is about Daniel Bryan winning the briefcase…

        • Forceton Banfodder

I know what the article said.

    • Stranger

There’s an obvious difference, which is the fact that Daniel Bryan is immensely over and has tons of momentum, while Dolph has been booked like the biggest joke of a champion to ever step foot in the ring, all while receiving crickets every time he makes an appearance. Don’t let that comment fool you by the way, as I’m quite a fan of his… but yeah. He literally just had the briefcase like 2 months ago, they fucked it up terribly, and I’d rather not watch him for who knows how long with a briefcase once again when it clearly wouldn’t change a single thing. But a MITB victory for Bryan, and a main event the following PPV against John Cena, actually could spawn a major change… depending on the outcome. Hopefully this is no longer a mystery to you.

  • G.I.R.L.

So long as he doesn’t eventually pull an Edge (like the plethora of other MITB winners) and wins the title cleanly, I’ll be fine.

  • Marko

Bryan winning clean over Cena for the title would be HUGE! It would solidify him as a guy who could carry the company. After all, he is the most over babyface in WWE today along with Punk, Y2J, Orton and Cena.

    • Roger Penland

Definitely wouldn’t make him the weak link.. Lol.

      • Marko

        Damn right lol

    • Kayne Corey

Clean is the key word there lol. I agree. Cena hasn’t lost 100% clean in at least 5 years. It’s always some stipulation match when he loses or he gets cocky like with the rock, or he gets distracted for a few seconds.

  • Jahwan

Thank you! I did not want to see Cena and Ryback again. I want to see Ryback go head to head with Henry or Big Show. And I’m fine with Daniel Bryan facing Cena only at SS. Because then, we won’t see 3 or 4 PPV matches in a row between those two. On top of that, Daniel Bryan might win the championship on my birthday, and he’s my 2nd favorite WWE wrestler (my birthday is on SS)! :D

  • Rodriquez Antonio

SuperCena is gonna be Champion forever. Cuz Vince said so lol

  • yrabadi

Calling it now. Cena goes full heel against Bryan.

Yes, I know this will NEVER happen. But you heard it here first sports fans!

  • Progress_Now

in other words Mark Henry gets nowhere once again. maybe he should’ve retired after all.

  • robert18

well daniel bryan deserve this title but someday i hope that jericho will become world champion again hopely the wwe champion he has only one reigh he deserve more than jobbing with mcguillicuty and fandouchebag

  • Thomas-24/7 (Mutascale)

What’s the point of having Cena going over Rhyback ceanly after Cena defeated Rhyback in two falls at Payback? WWE could have Cena go over Rhyback on Raw, it’s not like Rhyback’s momentum is dead already.

I like the idea of Daniel Bryan winning the Money in the Bank briefcase, and challenging Cena for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam, if it happens.

I would like to see Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton at Money in the Bank, and then go from there. Just my opinion.

  • WWEFan4Life

Now, then, to me it seems like WWE are really trying to give us good PPV’s for a change. WWE Payback was awesome and as far as I can see, MITB will be awesome, too. This has got me thinking, though… if RVD returns at MITB and classified as a Raw superstar, and Bryan wins MITB, that kind of wrecks RVD’s return. Hopefully though, RVD can go to Smackdown and win that MITB. God, I am so looking forward to MITB.

  • Dicknology

I would love to see a Henry Vs. Bryan feud for the WWE Title.

  • Marshall Mathers

    “RYBACK’s RUINED!”

  • Kevin G. Wolfe

Yeah because Cena really needs a clean pinfall over Ryback (!)

  • Steven Harris

I was a tiny bit worried that it was going to say the push is over.
