WWE Judgment Day Results - May 18th 2008
Location: The Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska
- WWE's Judgment Day pay-per-view kicks off with a promo video to the Triple H and Randy Orton match, the pyro explodes and we're live in Omaha, Nebraska with Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler at the 10th annual WWE Judgment Day pay-per-view.
JBL vs. John Cena
JBL's music hits and his limousine comes out through the entrance way. John Bradshaw Layfield hops out and makes his way to the ring for this Judgment Day opener.
JBL gets ready for the match, the music hits and out comes John Cena to a pretty nice pop, with not as many boo's as usual. Cena hits the ring, exchanges looks with JBL and we're ready to start the match.
Cena and Layfield lock up with them going back into the turnbuckle and breaking the hold. They lock back up and Cena applies a standing side headlock and they go back into the turnbuckle to only break the hold.
JBL with a right hand and his own side head lock. This match has started off slow with not much heat behind it. Cena trips JBL and tries to apply the STFU but JBL hits the ropes. JBL rolls out and drops Cena to come back in and take control. Cena gets thrown shoulder first into the turnbuckle as JBL goes outside and starts working on Cena's shoulder.
Back in the ring, JBL with a big swinging neck breaker and the match still doesn't have much heat behind it at all. JBL applies a submission hold on Cena's arm trying to get the win that way. Cena overpowers JBL and slams him out of the hold but is now holding his shoulder.
This match is so dull it's hard to call. Cena starts fighting back with right hands and hits a shoulder block but still looks to be hurt. Cena hits the Blockbuster move and climbs the top rope but misses the big leg drop as JBL moves.
They go outside fighting on the barrier as the ref begins his 10 count. Back inside the ring now and JBL gets a 2 count. JBL with kicks to the head, still punishing Cena. JBL applies a hold on Cena's lower back and the match goes on.
They go into a full nelson by JBL on their feet and Cena tries to counter with the FU. JBL blocks it and goes back to work on the mat with Cena's lower back and shoulder.
Back to their feet now and they trade right hands again. JBL with a big boot to the face knocking Cena down. JBL with a series of elbow drops to Cena's ribs. Cena gets back to his feet but JBL levels him with a big clothesline, still punishing Cena.
JBL goes for another big clothesline but Cena counters it and nails the FU for the pinfall and the win.
Winner: John Cena
After the match, JBL makes his exit first as Cena is left in the ring looking to be hurt. Cena finally gets to his feet and celebrates some as we see William Regal sitting in a luxury suite in the arena watching the matches. Cena heads to the back, stops and looks at Regal before entering the back.
- Ringside, Michael Cole and Mick Foley plug the World Heavyweight Title match later tonight and a poll on WWE.com as we go to Tazz and Mike Adamle. The ECW announcers talk about the World Tag Team Title match later tonight as we go to a clip of John Morrison and The Miz's Dirt Sheet.
WWE Tag Team Title Match: John Morrison and The Miz vs. CM Punk and Kane
The WWE Tag Team Champions are out first as John Morrison's music hits and he makes his entrance. Out next is his tag team partner The Miz.
The Miz and Morrison hold their belts high in the air as the music hits and out comes the Money in the Bank winner, CM Punk. Briefcase in hand, Punk comes out and stops at ringside as the fire explodes and the ECW Champion Kane makes his way to the ring.
Punk and The Miz start the match off going back and forth until Punk hits a nice suplex for a 2 count. Kane gets tagged in and we get some double teaming kicks in the corner on The Miz.
Kane goes to work on Miz, dropping him by his neck and throwing him into the turnbuckle. Miz backs Kane into the corner and tags in John Morrison for a little bit more double teaming. Kane catches Morrison off the ropes with a big powerslam and kick to the face for a 2 count.
Punk comes in with a plancha move off the ropes and gets another 2 count on Morrison. Back into the turnbuckle and Punk ties Morrison up on the ropes in a nice submission hold but they break the hold and go back to the mat for a 2 count. Morrison fights back with knees to the head and tags back in Miz.
Miz comes in, takes Punk back down and scores another near fall. Miz tries to ground Punk on the mat but he fights back and lays him out with a big kick and tags in Kane. The ECW Champion Kane comes in with right hands, a clothesline and big side slam on The Miz. Kane climbs the top rope and nails the flying right hand
The Miz counters Kane and blind tags in Morrison. Morrison blocks a chokeslam on The Miz and goes to work on Kane and his knee. Miz gets tagged back in and hits his flying forearm in the turnbuckle and tags back in Morrison. Knee to the chin of Kane for another 2 count. Miz comes back in.
The Miz continues to work on Kane but hits him with a big boot to knock him down. Punk and Morrison get tagged in at the same time and collide in mid air. Punk with a series of kicks and a powerslam for a 2 count. Punk hits a running knee in the turnbuckle, knocks down The Miz and gets a 2 count on Morrison.
Punk with a big cross body off the top onto Morrison for another close 2 count. Punk goes for the GTS but Miz runs in and Punk breaks the hold. Miz goes outside and Punk goes for the GTS on Morrison but Miz breaks that one up. Kane chokeslams Miz on the outside while Morrison hits his finisher on Punk in the middle of the ring for the win.
Winners: John Morrison and The Miz
- We cut to a video package with highlights of the storyline with Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho and Batista.
Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels
The WWE Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring first for this singles match. WWE hasn't stated that it will be for Jericho's title. Out next is Shawn Michaels with his usual entrance as we get ready to go.
Jericho and Michaels lock eyes and lock up, taking each other down with several spots. Jericho looks to be going after Michaels knee, or trying to. HBK with a side head lock, taking Y2J to the mat for a 2 count.
They counter each other after another series of moves for a series of 2 counts. Jericho with another bridge counter for a 2 count but HBK counters it with the same. Lots of back and forth 2 counts early on. HBK locks on the inverted Figure Four trying to make Jericho tap.
Jericho gets the ropes and they get back to their feet and have a staredown. HBK slaps Jericho, pissing him off. HBK smiles at Jericho, taunting him as the ref breaks them up. They go back at it and Jericho gets hit by an elbow to the face. HBK applies an arm lock over the ropes but falls to the outside breaking the hold.
HBK goes to work on Jericho's arm now and backs him in the corner with right hands. The referee seperates them but Jericho manages to throw HBK with force into the turnbuckle, sending him to the mat. Jericho takes HBK to the top rope and hits him with body shots to the lower back.
HBK pushes Jericho off to the mat but he comes back to the top turnbuckle and they exchange punches. Jericho goes for the suplex from the top but HBK holds on. HBK throws Jericho to the mat from the top but goes for the flying elbow drop only to land on Jericho's knees.
HBK is holding his ribs now as Jericho goes to work. Jericho applies a standing submission hold, applying the pressure on HBK and hitting him with shots to the ribs. Jericho with a rib breaker over his knees for a 2 count.
HBK counters Jericho and Y2J misses the bulldog, landing on the ropes. HBK with a big inverted atomic drop and a knife chop followed by a flying clothesline. Out of nowhere, Jericho goes for the Walls of Jericho and locks it tight on Michaels.
HBK gets to the ropes and the hold is broken but he looks to be hurt as Jericho keeps kicking. On the apron, HBK hits a big dose of Sweet Chin Music, knocking Jericho on to the floor as the ref begins his 10 count.
HBK goes outside and brings Jericho into the ring, dragging him to the center of the ring but only getting a 2 count. HBK gets up top and hits the big elbow drop on Jericho.
HBK gears up for the Sweet Chin Music but Jericho takes some time getting up to his feet, looks like he's faking it. Jericho finally gets up and hits the Codebreaker on HBK out of nowhere. Both men are down but Jericho goes for the cover first but only gets a 2 count.
Jericho picks up HBK but gets thrown into a Crossface submission hold out of nowhere. HBK tries to make Jericho tap out as the referee checks in. Jericho makes it to the ropes and the hold is broken.
Jericho drops Michaels' ribs over the top rope and dumps him back on the mat. Y2J goes for the Lionsault but Michaels puts his knees up. Jericho dodges his knees and goes for the Walls of Jericho. HBK turns it into a quick roll up out of nowhere for the win.
Winner: Shawn Michaels
After the match, both men get to their feet and Chris Jericho extends his hand to Shawn Michaels. They size each other up, shake hands while looking weary at each other. HBK's music plays again and Jericho applauds him as HBK makes his exit. We see William Regal sitting in the luxury box again, watching the matches.
- Backstage, the WWE Women's Champion Mickie James is with Todd Grisham. Mickie says she is confident about her match tonight. Grisham asks her how her night out with Cena was last week and she says it was fun. JBL walks up and tells her to leave. He stares down Grisham and tells him to ask him a question about John Cena. Grisham says earlier Cena beat him, what will he be doing to get revenge on Cena? JBL says he punished Cena for 20 minutes and if Grisham ever asks him a stupid question like that again, it will be his first and last fight.
WWE Women's Title Match: Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix vs. Melina
Lilian Garcia is in the ring introducing the match as The Glamazon makes her way to the ring first. Out next is Melina followed by the WWE Women's Champion Mickie James.
The match starts and Beth Phoenix leans on the ropes and tells Melina to get out of her ring. Melina comes up with a kick, knocking Beth to the outside. Mickie from behind, starts her attack. Beth pulls Mickie over the ropes and levels her with a big clothesline.
Beth and Melina in the ring now, brawling with the Glamazon in control. Mickie comes in and rolls Beth up for a 2 count and goes to work with kicks and punches. Mickie goes for her DDT but Melina catches her and blocks it.
Mickie jumps on Beth's back with a sleeper hold, wearing her down. Melina goes at it with Mickie now, backing her into the corner. Mickie counters with a bulldog move on Melina and goes up top. Melina knocks her off the top and looks to go for a suplex. Beth comes from behind, puts Melina on her shoulders and drops her.
Beth turns around and Mickie comes off the top rope for a quick pin. Mickie takes Beth out with a big kick to the face but gets caught back on the top by Melina. Beth Phoenix gets back up and picks both Mickie and Melina on her shoulders with a very impressive double backbreaker.
Beth picks up Mickie for her big chokeslam but Melina comes from behind and knocks her down. Mickie counters with her DDT finisher on Melina for the pinfall and the win.
Winner: Mickie James
- Backstage, we see Shawn Michaels taking his gear off as Batista walks up. Batista says he told him the next time he saw him he was going to hurt him but he's going to make him wait for it. Batista says he is going to dictate the time and place but he is going to hurt him. HBK looks on as Batista walks off.
- We go ringside with Michael Cole and Mick Foley with the results of the WWE.com fan poll. The fans picked The Undertaker to defeat Edge, 85% to 15%. We go to a video package with highlights of the feud between Edge and The Undertaker over the now vacant World Heavyweight Championship.
World Heavyweight Title Match: Edge vs. The Undertaker
The vacant World Heavyweight Title is on display in a case in the arena. The music and pyro hits and out comes Edge by himself.
The Undertaker's music hits and he comes out with his grand entrance as Edge looks on in the ring. Edge and Taker go at it to start the match and Edge ends up rolling outside for a break. Back in the ring, Edge hits Taker with a series of right hands in the corner.
Taker grabs Edge by his neck and throws him to the mat, attacking him with kicks and punches. They go outside for a minute and Taker brings him back in the ring and goes to work on the shoulder with shoulder block takedowns.
The Undertaker continues to punish Edge and goes to the top rope, walks it and goes for Old School but Edge blocks it and takes him down. Edge goes to work on Taker with stomps and punches, sending him outside to the floor.
Taker overpowers Edge and drops him over the fan barrier at ringside. Taker and Edge continue to battle on the outside. Edge throws Taker into the steel steps with force. Edge rolls back into the ring and hits a baseball slide kick, sending Taker back into the fan barrier.
Back in the ring and Taker goes for a big kick in the corner but Edge moves and Taker lands on the mat. Edge with a quick 2 count. They get back to their feet and Taker nails Edge with a few right hands, wearing him down. Edge takes Taker down with a kick to the knee and continues working on the legs with stomps and kicks.
Edge goes outside and pulls Taker's legs around the turnbuckle post, punishing the legs. Back to their feet now and Edge knocks Taker down with a kick to the gut. Taker goes for his illegal choke hold on Edge but stops the hold before applying. It looks like Edge goes for Old School and Taker knocks him off the ropes.
Taker comes off the ropes with a flying forearm and goes back to work on Edge, in control this time. Taker with a big forearm again and goes for the chokeslam but throws Edge into the turnbuckle. A big boot by Taker and he looks to be going for the win.
Edge with a big counter as Ryder and Hawkins come to ringside and distract the referee. Edge exposes the turnbuckle as Taker gets to his feet. Edge counters the Last Ride and goes for the win but only gets a 2 count. Edge goes for the Spear but Taker throws him into the turnbuckle post.
Taker hits the Last Ride and uses it to throw Edge into the turnbuckle pad. Taker goes for the win but only gets a 2 count as Edge's foot gets on the ropes. Taker scoops Edge for the Snake Eyes on the exposed turnbuckle but Edge pushes him into it with another counter. Edge climbs onto Taker with hard right hands to the face.
Edge almost runs into the exposed turnbuckle but he stops himself. Taker scoops him up and drops him onto the exposed turnbuckle with Snake Eyes. Taker goes for a boot off the ropes and Edge nails the Spear out of nowhere. Taker manages to kick out at 2.
Edge gets to his feet and fights Taker on his knees. Both men now on their feet, exchanging big right hands. Taker grabs Edge by the throat but he fights it off with punches. Taker finally nails the big chokeslam on Edge, laying him out. Taker covers Edge for another near 2 count.
Both men get to their feet as Taker kicks Edge in the head and sends him back outside to the floor by the announcer tables. Both men end up in the crowd after a clothesline from The Undertaker. The referee begins his 10 count as the two men start heading back to the ring, still brawling.
The Undertaker throws Edge into the barrier at the referee's 9 count and makes it to the ring for the win. The announcer starts to announce The Undertaker as the winner as Vickie Guerrero shows up on the mic at the entrance way with Ryder and Hawkins.
After some time, lots of heat from the fans and jumbling of her words, Vickie Guerrero says that it is common knowledge that a Championship can only be won by pinfall or submission, not via DQ or countout. Therefore, the World Heavyweight Title will remain vacant. She tells The Undertaker that he is not the new Champion.
Taker gets up pissed off, grabs Edge by his hair and brings him in the ring for a massive Tombstone Piledriver as Vickie Guerrero screams. Vickie calls him a son of a bitch as Ryder and Hawkins drag Edge out of the ring. Vickie makes her exit as The Undertaker stands in the ring with the still vacant World Heavyweight Championship.
Winner: The Undertaker, by countout
- We see a video backstage of Randy Orton, talking yet again about all the WWE Superstars he has beaten. Orton tells Triple H, tonight is truly his Judgment Day because he will have to meet him inside a steel cage.
- MVP makes his way to the ring and gets on the microphone. MVP says somehow, he was left off the card tonight. He says he has a hard time understanding that because he is still the highest entertainer in the history of SmackDown and the longest reigning U.S. Champion in WWE history. He says it's bad business leaving him off a WWE pay-per-view card. MVP asks if any top WWE talent want to expel him from the ring and issues a challenge. The music hits and out comes Matt Hardy, not dressed to wrestle.
MVP tells Hardy to bring his ass to the ring and bring his Title with him. Matt says not so fast, he's already proven he's better than him. Matt says there is someone else here tonight that's going to prove he's better than him too. The music hits and out comes Jeff Hardy.
MVP vs. Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy makes his way out, hugs his brother Matt and celebrates with the fans before getting in the ring to face MVP in this impromptu RAW vs. SmackDown match.
MVP and Hardy go at it quick with MVP on the offensive. MVP rolls Hardy up early for a quick 1 count followed by another. Hardy comes off the ropes and hits a big crossbody, regaining control. MVP rolls out to the outside to catch a breath as Hardy looks on.
Back in the ring, MVP and Hardy go back it it with MVP hitting a few more near falls, keeping Jeff on the mat. The fans begin to rally behind Hardy as he gets to his feet and now has control of MVP. MVP charges Hardy but gets dumped over the ropes to the floor.
MVP catches Hardys legs and pulls him to the outside, his head hitting the floor. MVP throws him into the steel steps and goes back inside the ring for a 2 count. MVP with more kicks, punches and knee drops on Hardy followed by another 2 count. MVP continues his assault on Hardy, keeping in control.
MVP hits a big bodyslam on Hardy for another near fall and locks another submission hold on Hardy's arms, keeping him grounded. Hardy gets to his feet, fights back but gets thrown head first into the turnbuckle by MVP. MVP stands over the fallen Hardy with a smirk on his face, continuing to kick and stomp.
MVP still working on Hardy's arms and left shoulder, getting another 2 count. MVP lifts Hardy on his shoulders and just drops him on his face. MVP with a big kick to the head and arm of Jeff Hardy, sending him to the outside. On the outside, MVP throws Hardy into the fan barrier and throws him back into the ring. MVP covers Hardy again for only a 2 count.
MVP continues to keep Hardy grounded as Hardy tries to fight back but keeps getting knocked back down. Hardy counters finally and takes MVP down as they exchange right hands back on their feet. Running clothesline by Hardy followed by another in the turnbuckle. Hardy with his dropkick in the corner, right in MVP's mouth. Hardy goes back to the top rope but misses the Swanton Bomb as MVP moves out of the way.
MVP goes running at Hardy in the corner but gets tripped face first into the middle turnbuckle. Hardy goes to the top rope and hits the Whisper in the Wind for the pinfall and the win.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
We see William Regal once again sitting in the luxury suite, watching the matches as Jeff Hardy celebrates with the fans and makes his way to the back as we cut to a promo for Rambo, the sponsor for tonight's pay-per-view.
- The steel cage begins to lower over the ring for tonight's main event for the WWE Title between challenger Randy Orton and champion Triple H. We cut to a video package of highlights of the feud between Orton and The Game.
Steel Cage Match for the WWE Title: Triple H vs. Randy Orton
Lilian Garcia announces the rules and the former WWE Champion Randy Orton makes his way to the ring for tonight's main event. Orton enters the steel cage and awaits the arrival of the current WWE Champion, Triple H.
After a few seconds, the music hits and out comes the WWE Champion, Triple H to a pretty nice ovation. Triple H enters the cage, climbs to the very top and gets hype with the fans as we get ready for tonight's steel cage main event.
Lilian Garcia does the introductions, the referee checks both men and goes over the rules as the bell sounds and the match is on. As soon as the bell rings, Orton dives for the cage door and tries to escape but Triple H rushes him and stops him, pounding on him in the corner. Orton rams the door into Triple H's head as we get in the cage and start brawling.
Orton works on Triple H with lots of right hands until The Game fights back with some of his own. Orton comes off the ropes and gets hit by a high knee from Triple H. Orton goes face first into the steel as the two continue to go back and forth. Triple H blocks his face from hitting the steel and throws Orton back into it. Orton goes to climb out of the top of the cage but Triple H stops him again.
Triple H covers Orton for a 2 count and starts pounding on him again with right hands. The Game with a big knee to the face and another 2 count. Orton throws The Game into the steel now and throws him over the top rope, into the steel. Orton's mouth is busted open as he goes back to work on The Game, using the steel cage as a weapon. More right hands from Orton and more use of the cage.
Triple H fights back but gets caught by a big kick from Orton. Orton pulls Triple H through the ropes and hits a massive DDT for a close 2 count. Orton gets on top of Triple H and nails him with more big right hands. Another close 2 count by Randy Orton. The Game tries to fight back with shots to Orton's ribs. Orton hits a massive powerslam on Triple H and another 2 count.
Orton starts stalking Triple H, kicking and stomping on The Game's legs, arms and other body parts, as usual. William Regal is shown watching the match from the luxury box again. Orton hits a big knee drop for another 2 count on Triple H, and another quick 2 count. Orton continues stomping on Triple H, looking frustrated. Orton misses another knee drop as Triple H moves out of the way.
Both men get to their feet and Triple H manages to take Orton down, clipping his knees out from under him. Triple H applies the Figure Four leglock to a loud "whooo" from the fans. Orton tries to fight out of the hold as Triple H applies pressure. Orton makes it to the ropes but Triple H holds the leg lock on a second before finally breaking it. Orton goes for the RKO but Triple H counters it, goes for the Pedigree and Orton counters that.
Orton crawls for the steel cage door and has his body hanging out of it until Triple H comes over and drags him back. Orton kicks The Game back and goes for the door again. Orton brings a char into the ring and kicks Triple H away again. Triple H blocks the steel chair shot and hits Orton with big right hands. Triple H with a facebuster and a close 2 count. The Game grabs the steel chair and goes for a shot on Orton but gets hit by a low blow, knocking him down.
Orton grabs the steel chair and smacks Triple H over the back with it. Orton drops the chair and drops Triple H face first onto it with a big DDT. Orton covers Triple H for another 2 count. Orton gets the steel chair again, sets it up and starts stalking Triple H again. Orton goes for the RKO on the steel chair but Triple H pushes him into the steel cage. Triple H with a drop toe hold, sending Orton face first into the setup steel chair. Triple H covers Orton for another close 2 count.
Orton gets to his feet first, looking hurt, and starts climbing the wall of the steel cage. The Game comes from behind, stops Orton and climbs the wall beside him. The two brawl while standing on the wall of the cage as Orton falls off. Triple H climbs the top of the cage as Orton rushes up to him, trying to stop him. Triple H is laid across the top of the cage as Orton hits him and pulls him back to the ropes and down to the mat.
Orton, still on the turnbuckle, starts climbing the top of the cage and has one leg over the top of it as The Game comes back to the top rope. Triple H pulls him back inside the ring and onto the top turnbuckle, slamming his head into the steel. Triple H grabs Orton and looks to go for a Pedigree off the top rope but Orton fights him off. Orton throws The Game off the top and goes back to climb over the cage.
Orton gets one leg over the top of the cage again as Triple H races after him. The Game grabs him, somehow but Orton is dangling from the top. Triple H pulls him back inside the top of the cage and catches an elbow from Orton, sending him back to the mat. Orton gets half of his body back over the top of the cage until Triple H grabs him again by the leg. The Game pulls Orton off the turnbuckle and both men are finally back inside the ring.
Triple H hits a big spine buster on Orton, grabs the steel chair and stalks Orton himself. Triple H goes for the Pedigree on the steel chair but Orton drops him on his spine on the chair. Orton misses his big running kick to the head and catches a steel chair shot to the head by Triple H. The Game hits a massive Pedigree on Randy Orton for the pinfall and the win.
Winner: Triple H
After the match, Triple H gets to his feet with his WWE Title as Randy Orton is still laid out in the ring. We go to replays from the match and come back where Triple H is standing on the very top of the cage, holding the WWE Championship high as the pay-per-view fades to black.
