After weeks of build, MJF finally got his chance to wrestle AEW World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley.
The battle took place in the main event of the AEW All Out pay-per-view event. It was a really good match that saw them have various near fall spots. It had everything from brawling to old school spots and even blood thanks to MJF blading.
The finish was clever as Warlow tossed in the diamond ring and distracted the referee, but it allowed Moxley to hit the Paradigm Shift for the win. The finisher was banned for the match but used anyway.
This feud started back on the July 29th episode of Dynamite when MJF, who is the #1 ranked wrestler in the men’s division, started a presidential election-style campaign to become the next AEW World Champion.
While doing a “State of the Industry” address, the rising prospect stated that Moxley had failed to be a leader and that he would lead All Elite Wrestling for the next 25 years. He ended the speech by challenging Moxley to a match.
Shortly after, AEW confirmed that MJF would not only be next in line, but also challenge Moxley for the top prize in the promotion at All Out.
What are your thoughts on retaining Jon Moxley retaining the AEW World Heavyweight Title? Was this the right call by AEW officials? Sound off in the comment section.
Matt Hardy took a trip to a local hospital after his match against Sammy Guevara.
The two stars worked a Broken Rules Match at Saturday’s AEW All Out pay-per-view event in Jacksonville, Florida at Daily’s Place. It started at the football stadium and with a spot where Hardy and Guevara took a bump off a forklift in the backstage area.
They were supposed to go through tables, but they overshot it and the back of Matt’s head hit the floor. It was pretty clear that something was wrong with Matt because he had trouble getting to his feet. The doctor came in and the match was waved off. However, moments later, the match was restarted.
They climbed up part of the stage structure so Matt could push him off where Sammy fell a few feet through a pad for the win.
Later in the show, Tony Schiavone announced that Matt is expected to be okay and Dr. Sampson cleared him to continue the match.
Hardy’s wife, Reby, took to her official Twitter account where she ripped the company for allowing the match to continue. She wrote the following:
“Let me be absolutely f**king clear. There is NOTHING entertaining about a concussion. Shame on everyone in that g**damn building.”
It was later reported by PWinsider.com that Hardy went to the hospital after the contest to be checked out. We’ll pass along any updates on Hardy as they come in.
The third match between Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy was quite the spectacle.
The fan favorite star and former AEW World Heavyweight Champion battled in a Mimosa Mayhem Match. The contest, which was different, took place at the AEW All Out pay-per-view event in Jacksonville, Florida with the rules of there being a winner by pinfall, submission, or by throwing your opponent into a vat of mimosa.
The bout had a lot of brawling and various weapons being used. The finish saw Cassidy hit the Orange Punch to Jericho who was on the middle rope into the pool for the win.
When it was first revealed that Jericho wanted to feud with Cassidy, there was an initial backlash as Jericho has been a main eventer since he joined the promotion while Cassidy had been a comedy mid-card talent. As the program started to develop, that started to change.
Their first match took place at Fyter Fest – Night 2 when Jericho beat Cassidy in a singles bout. This led to Cassidy asking for a rematch, but had to do various attacks on Jericho and The Inner Circle before Jericho accepted the challenge.
One of the attacks included Cassidy dumping orange juice from the ceiling on Jericho, which ruined his expensive white jacket. They had a debate that was hosted by Eric Bischoff before their rematch that saw Cassidy victorious on the August 12th episode of Dynamite.
Kenny Omega and Hangman Page are no longer the kings of the AEW tag team division as FTR has taken that spot.
Omega and Page put the Tag Team Titles on the line when they battled the former WWE stars at the AEW All Out pay-per-view event. The match was long as it went about 30-minutes.
This is where Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler beat Omega and Page for the titles in Jacksonville, Florida at Daily’s Place. This obviously marks the first time that they’ve held gold in AEW. FTR hit back-to-back double piledrivers to Page for the win.
AEW set up this contest back on the August 27th episode of Dynamite on TNT when they held a Tag Team Gauntlet Match involving four teams to determine who will challenge for the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
FTR won the Gauntlet match by beating best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent), The Natural Nightmares (Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall) and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) to advance. As a result, they became the new #1 contender’s for the straps.
Page and Omega beat SCU for the titles on the January 22nd episode of AEW Dynamite that was taped the night in the Bahamas on the Ship of Jericho on TNT.
Although Thunder Rosa brought the fight to Hikaru Shida, she fell short in her attempt to become another champion.
The battle between two women’s champions from two different promotions took place at Saturday’s (August 5, 2020) AEW All Out pay-per-view event in Jacksonville, Florida at Daily’s Place.
Shida put the AEW Women’s Title on the line against the NWA Women’s Champion. The style of both stars meshed and based on social media feedback, fans enjoyed the back and forth contest. Shida successfully retained the title.
This match was set up back on the August 22nd episode of AEW Dynamite when Rosa appeared to issue the challenge for this contest at this show. This is where she stated that she wanted to bring the AEW women’s division some respect.
Fast forward to the following week, the match booking was confirmed. In fact, Rosa was seen in action in a singles match on this past Wednesday’s Dynamite edition.
Rosa has worked for Lucha Underground, Ring of Honor, WOW, and other promotions during her career that has lasted six years thus far. This includes a 2019 MMA fight with Combate Americas.
Lana has given her side to a new report that suggests she caused the final straw to break which led to a new WWE policy.
Of course, WWE wants talent to cease third party deals by October 2, which means they need to remove themselves from the likes of Cameo, Twitch, etc. WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon sent out a letter to let all talents know about this.
On Friday night, Dave Meltzer reported on the Wrestling Observer message board that “the straw that broke the camel’s back” with WWE officials was due to Lana’s Instagram brand deal with Bang Energy Drink.
In order to get two sides of the story, Lana has taken to her official Twitter account to refute the report. She tweeted out the following:
“I am not the straw that broke the camel’s back. You know who you are and that is false…but thank you for writing about me…all of you. I am your escape goat.”
There is still confusion about this new policy and whether it includes social media and YouTube.
Since the reports, CM Punk, Renee Young, and Mick Foley have commented on the memo. Also, former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang called out WWE for the memo.
I am not the straw that broke the camel’s back. You know who you are and that is false ……. but thank you for writing about me…. all of you. I am your escape goat
Following the news of WWE wanting talent to cease third party deals by October 2, there has been backlash from fans and even a politician as a result.
WWE issued the following statement on the reports:
“Much like Disney and Warner Bros., WWE creates, promotes and invests in its intellectual property, i.e. the stage names of performers like The Fiend Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Big E and Braun Strowman. It is the control and exploitation of these characters that allows WWE to drive revenue, which in turn enables the company to compensate performers at the highest levels in the sports entertainment industry.
Notwithstanding the contractual language, it is imperative for the success of our company to protect our greatest assets and establish partnerships with third parties on a companywide basis, rather than at the individual level, which as a result will provide more value for all involved.”
It all dates back to last Sunday where a meeting was held with talent by WWE management to discuss the reinvention of the brand. Fast forward to last Thursday, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon sent out a letter about how talent can no longer use third-party services (Cameo, Twitch, etc) by October 2.
According to the boss, anyone who violates these orders could result in fines, suspension, or termination of talent. McMahon stated that the actions are necessary as they go into the “next phase of growth” for the company.
AEW star Eddie Kingston appeared on this week’s episode of the Talk Is Jericho podcast. The independent veteran would discuss a number of topics from his time on the road, working with a number of AEW stars and his tryout with WWE.
Eddie Kingston took part in a tryout with WWE back in 2016. That tryout saw the likes of Shayna Baszler, Ruby Riot, Kimber Lee, Su Yung, Jacob Fatu and Cedric Rougeau attempt to get into the Performance Center full time also.
Eddie Kingston on WWE Tryout
“No, that was it. Just one tryout” Eddie Kingston explained on the podcast, saying how he hasn’t attempted to get back into WWE seriously since then. Kingston would also explain why he felt he never got a shot in WWE. “Again? Because I was fat. I was fat and I talked all this sh*t and did what I wanted.”
Eddie Kingston would also then reveal that NXT General Manager William Regal was looking to bring him into WWE. “William Regal was great guy to me, you know what I mean? I think he was always trying to get me there. But again, I just, I made my own choices.”
Kingston would reveal that he opted to join IMPACT Wrestling just 2 days after his WWE tryout. WWE had apparently given him a 6 to 8 week window and Kingston decided that he could not wait that long.
“You’d already know by then if you wanted me” Kingston exclaimed on the podcast. “I needed money, I needed to get, my ex at the time, a house.”
Interestingly, Eddie Kingston was contacted by WWE just after his first appearance in AEW. Kingston would in the end opt to sign for All Elite Wrestling and will be part of the ALL OUT PPV that takes place on September 5th. That show will be available to view on FITE TV.
AEW Champion Jon Moxley recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio. The former WWE Superstar discussed a number of topics during his appearance on the show, including his wife Renee Young’s status, the ALL OUT PPV and his ambition to go for the AEW Tag Team Titles.
During the broadcast Jon Moxley would discuss the presentation of AEW programming. “I thought it was tremendous” Moxley began, discussing the recent beatdown of Cody Rhodes at the hands of Brodie Lee and The Dark Order.
Jon Moxley on Brodie Lee
“Obviously I’m a huge fan of Brodie Lee, both personally and professionally. It is awesome that you really never know what you’re gonna see on Dynamite. We’ve kind of thrown the traditional rulebook of television wrestling out the window. You’ll see a little bit everything, but anything can happen. Anybody can show up.”
Jon Moxley elaborated further, saying “whether it’s a Thunder Rosa or an Eddie Kingston? At any moment somebody could show up. [You could get ] a match that last 15 minutes and go through the same, basic formula you’ve seen for the last 10-15 years? Or it could just be a hailstorm and over in three minutes. Anything could happen, you know?”
Moxley has made it clear over ever since he left WWE that he wasn’t looking for their style of heavily scripted professional wrestling any longer. With the style of AEW he clearly feels more comfortable, and he finished by expanding on his praise of the Cody/Brodie Lee angle.
“We really opened up the possibilities, and that’s what I really loved about it. Besides from, you know, just the awesome physicality of it? Cody, he’s a guy who stays on the ball and stays motivated. I anticipate when he comes back? He would I assume want to get that one back from Brodie.”

AEW star Eddie Kingston appeared on this week’s episode of the Talk Is Jericho podcast. The independent veteran would discuss a number of topics from his time on the road, working with a number of AEW stars and his tryout with WWE.
“Christopher Daniels calls me up, ‘he goes hey man, we want to bring you back’ Eddie Kingston began on the podcast, discussing how his run began in AEW. “I said, ‘Yeah, sure.’ Again, its ‘just a booking’ at the time I’m thinking. [Then] I get a call from the competition.”
On the podcast Jericho would make a disparaging remark about WWE, saying how they only called Kingston because he appeared on AEW television. Even though Kingston would reveal that he got a call from WWE? He made it clear that is wasn’t the first time they had contacted him.
Eddie Kingston on Coaching
“Well, to be honest to them? They were trying to get me to coach for years. But my thing was, and I told them. I said, ‘I can’t collect the paycheck if I didn’t earn it.’ They were like, ‘what do you mean?’ my thing was, I was gonna go in there, coach, be bitter and angry about coaching and not getting a shot [in WWE].”
“I would have been so bitter and angry. I wouldn’t have done a good job and I would have been detrimental to those kids” Eddie Kingston continued. “So I was like, ‘nah, I’m good.’ And then the call [after appearing on Dynamite]? We’re talking about other things besides coaching. I weighed my options, and I came here [to AEW] and I told a couple people; ‘hey look, the competition hit me up, just letting you know. I’m not begging for a job, It’s very hard for me to play this supposedly wrestling political game.”
Do you think that Eddie Kingston could’ve had a run in NXT/WWE? Let us know in the comments
The terrifying creature that is AEW’s Abadon has called out Al Snow for his behavior during a training seminar. Abadon was responding to a Tweet posted by the Wrestlers Lab asking wrestlers to comment on being asked to change how they present themselves when she made the comments. Before talking about Al Snow, she mentioned some other comments she has heard from promoters.
"Can you be more attractive so we can book you?" "You are too fat to be doing flips." "You are not The Undertaker, so stop."
“My personal favorite, “If this was a dildo on a pole match you guys would actually work better.” At a seminar in front of a bunch of peers right after an on the fly tag match,” Abadon Tweeted.
A follow-up Tweet revealed she is talking about Al Snow.
“That “legend” was Al Snow who said this to myself and 3 other women in front of EVERYONE at the seminar,” Abadon Tweeted.
Abadon holds a 5-1 record, with most of her wins coming on Dark. She defeated Anna Jay in her debut match on Dynamite.
I forgot this awesome one, that i should dress like a dominatrix and sell sex in the ring because thats the only way women are sucessful in wrestling! ?
If Joe Biden defeats Donald Trump in the next US Presidential election, it could spell the end of WWE classifying talent as independent contractors. Former 2020 US Presidential candidate and noted wrestling fan Andrew Yang has promised to address the issue provided he is in a position to do so after the upcoming election.
Yang suspended his own campaign in February and has since endorsed Joe Biden for President.
Yang said that if he is not the Secretary of Labor following the election, he’s pretty sure he’ll be able to have a conversation with that person about WWE’s classification of talent as independent contractors. He let his thoughts on the matter be known in a lengthy multi-part series of Tweets yesterday.
Andrew Yang Tweets On WWE’s Classification Of Talent As Independent Contractors
“If I’m not the Secretary of Labor I’m pretty confident I’ll have his or her number to talk about the ridiculous classification of WWE wrestlers as independent contractors while controlling their name and likeness for years, even for something as benign as Cameo,” Yang Tweeted.
Yang would continue to note the other employee benefits WWE does not provide talent with.
“Come on Vince – you’ve already deprived the folks breaking their backs for you of healthcare, security, recovery time, retirement benefits and fair treatment re: licenses and royalties. At least let them make a living off their own names. Many of them need it.”
Yang would continue to say that he grew up a wrestling fan.
“I grew up a wrestling fan and it’s been sad to see so many of my childhood heroes pass away early. I’d feel better knowing that they and their families were being fairly treated – I look forward to doing what I can for the next generation of performers. I know how tough it is.”
Finally, Yang told Vince he better hope his friend Donald Trump wins the next election.
“Vince you’d better hope your old friend Donald wins because change is in the air and changes are long overdue where your corrupt labor practices are concerned. It would give me great pleasure. The people know.”

News broke yesterday that WWE sent a letter to talent giving them 30 days to end relationships with 3rd parties such as Twitch and Cameo. According to a recent report from Wrestling Observer Radio, talent is not clear on many of the details of the new policy, including which 3rd parties they are no longer permitted to work with.
Backstage News on WWE’s 3rd Party Ban
“I can tell you the talent doesn’t really know exactly but I think that they know they have to get off Twitch and Cameo. I don’t think YouTube, I know people who don’t think YouTube but it has not been completely explained what this means to them,” said Dave Meltzer.
He would continue to speculate a possible reason why WWE is doing this is so that they could cut their own deal with such a 3rd party. WWE talent having their own relationship with these parties undercuts WWE’s ability to cut such a deal. It’s not known if this is what WWE has planned, however.
“Talent is waiting to hear probably more specifics as well. For them, they got the letter yesterday, they may have heard about it a couple of days earlier but they got the letter yesterday.”
Meltzer also spent some time speaking about some of the other possible reasons WWE decided to implement the ban. One idea was that talent are giving away inside news on Twitch and other streams.
“Maybe Vince is mad that they are saying things, that they are too open on some of these things too. You see some of the quotes on certain things, they make news. They don’t go that inside but some of them go inside,” Meltzer continued.
“Certainly the AJ Styles Paul Heyman stuff, for sure,” Meltzer said when asked if there were any specific incidents that may have caused problems.
WWE SmackDown aired from the ThunderDome at the Amway Center. It was the first episode of SmackDown following WWE Payback. In addition to the takeaways below, a vignette of a mystery woman in heels aired during tonight’s SmackDown.
Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler def. Bayley & Sasha Banks to retain the Women’s Tag Titles
Jey Uso def. Sheamus, King Corbin, Matt Riddle to earn a Universal Championship match at Clash of Champions
Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:
Roman Reigns Vowed To Slaughter His Opponent At Clash of Champions
Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman came down to the ring to begin this week’s episode. Heyman said he was gone, tossed aside, and thrown in the shark infested ocean of obscurity and Roman Reigns pulled him on the island of relevancy.
Paul claimed that they did the same thing to Roman Reigns that they did to him. Heyman noted that Reigns delivered through life threatening illnesses and nobody offered a thank you. Heyman added that they took Roman’s title when he just needed some time off.
Heyman added that The Fiend and Monsters Among Men are not champion. The responsibility of being a champion and owning your actions is who Roman Reigns is. Paul announced that there will be a Fatal 4-Way tonight that Anderson Cooper (Michael Cole) & Carmella’s latest boyfriend (Corey Graves) will announce the participants to determine the #1 contender. It will be Big E, Sheamus, Matt Riddle, and King Corbin competing in the Fatal 4-Way match later tonight.
Roman Reigns grabbed the microphone and stated that he did exactly what he said he was going to do at Payback. Reigns added that he doesn’t care who he faces at Clash of Champions because they will get slaughtered. Roman said that when you have this power, all you have to do is show up and win.
Jey Uso approached Roman Reigns backstage and asked why he was associated with Paul Heyman. Reigns told Jey that he has everything under control and that he loves him but has to go. Roman walked away as Jey suggested that they get a steak after the show.
Opinion: This was a terrific promo and I can already tell that this is going to be an excellent version of Roman Reigns. He’s not saying idiotic jokes and cutting long promos that someone wrote for him. Reigns’ words were brief but impactful and Paul Heyman was great as usual.
Heavy Machinery battled The Miz & John Morrison tonight.
Match Recap: Heavy Machinery dominated the action early and sent Miz & Morrison out of the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Heavy Machinery were still in control and Otis slammed Morrison to the mat. Otis missed with a Splash and John caught him with an Enziguri.
The Miz tagged in and went for a Clothesline but Otis got out of the way. Morrison planted Tucker with a Neckbreaker outside the ring and it distracted Otis. Miz hit him with a few kicks but Otis shrugged them off and started dancing around the ring. Otis sent Miz and Morrison to the corner and connected with a Splash. Otis followed it up with the Caterpillar Elbow Drop on Miz for the pinfall victory. After the match, John Morrison stole Otis’ MITB briefcase and ran away.
Later on SmackDown, it was revealed that Morrison actually stole a briefcase with a sandwich in it and Otis keeps the MITB contract in his lunchbox.
Big E was going to throw a birthday party for Xavier Woods tonight but Sheamus attacked him. Sheamus beat down Big E in a parking lot and hit him with White Noise on top of a car. After the attack, Sheamus told Kayla Braxton that it was likely going to be a Triple Threat match later tonight.
Roman Reigns has his next challenger as WWE determined the new #1 contender for the WWE Title that’s held by “The Big Dog.”
WWE announced heading into Friday’s episode of SmackDown from Orlando, Florida on FOX that the reveal of this contender, which also marks the second match to be added to the card of Clash of Champions pay-per-view event, would be determined.
WWE held a Fatal 4-Way Match with Jey Uso vs. Matt Riddle vs. King Baron Corbin vs. Sheamus. This contest took place in the final 30 minutes of the show. Jey actually replaced Big E in the contest as Sheamus attacked him before the match and they did an injury angle. It was told that Paul Heyman had gotten Jey into the match.
Jey Uso was victorious, which means he earned the right to challenge Reigns for the WWE Title. Also in this show, Reigns addressed the fans about his alliance with Heyman and recent heel actions.
WWE presents the Clash of Champions pay-per-view event on Sunday, September 27, 2020.
It’s been reported that WWE is holding off Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt for a bigger event as that was the original WrestleMania 36 main event that never happened.
Word broke on Friday that WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon issued an edict this past week to make it clear that WWE stars can no longer “engage with outside third parties.” The belief is that this goes for platforms like Cameo and Twitch.
Pwinsider.com reports there are a lot of people worried about the vague wording of the letter and what exactly is allowed and won’t be allowed. There are some wrestlers who have already reacted negatively to the request because there is a feeling that it was an order to shut down their personal streaming channels. There’s no confirmation that this is actually the case.
Wrestlers told the media outlet that they have been using these platforms as a way to make additional revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic to make up for lost revenue that they usually get from live events and merchandise royalties. Bonuses have also been cut.
AJ Styles regularly streams his own content, but some of the wrestlers who aren’t on the same level as Styles have used third party platforms to build their own brands and make extra money.
There are grumblings among wrestlers about how they feel WWE is hurting their ability to make money outside of the company. In fact, some wrestlers have pushed back on this because they feel like they’re losing the freedom to promote themselves. Thus, it makes some wrestlers consider working somewhere else where they would be allowed more freedom.
There has been some talk over the last 24 hours who are thinking about pushing back against the latest edict from WWE officials.
Daniel Bryan has been absent from WWE television since June.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there’s still no word yet on when Bryan will be back.
The former WWE Champion being away from the TV tapings at the Performance Center in Orlando was likely a COVID-19 precautionary measure as it was around the time that his wife Brie Bella was in the latter her pregnancy with their second child.
Brie had gone on record by expressing concerns about Bryan working during the coronavirus pandemic due to his weakened immune system. There’s speculation that he could be coming back in the near future as it’s been a month since Brie gave birth.
WWE has also bumped up its COVID-19 testing and moved to hold shows out of the Amway Center in Orlando. Since the move, wrestlers who had been hiatus such as Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn have returned to work.
Bryan joined the SmackDown writing team in July and reportedly has significant creative influence. He hasn’t wrestled since June 12 where he lost to AJ Styles in the Intercontinental Title tournament finals
WWE is using an interesting tagline to further hype a match that will take place on next week’s episode of NXT, which is titled WWE NXT Super Tuesday II.
The main event of this show has been confirmed to be the Steel Cage match between Rhea Ripley and Mercedes Martinez. WWE is now billing it as “The Battle of The Badasses.”
In the announcement it was noted, “Rhea Ripley is tired of playing games with Mercedes Martinez and The Robert Stone Brand, and she isn’t hiding it.
That’s why she has called for Martinez to face her inside a Steel Cage — a challenge her rival eagerly accepted, setting the stage for The Battle of The Badasses in the main event of NXT Super Tuesday II.”
This episode will feature a bigger match that will serve as the opener, which is the Sudden Death Battle between Adam Cole and Finn Balor for the vacant NXT Title.
When that announcement was made, there had been speculation on Ripley vs. Martinez being the main event. Now, it’s official.
Just like this week, the reason that NXT is airing on Tuesday is due to the NHL Playoffs on the USA Network. However, the show will return to the normal Wednesday night timeslot on September 16.
No other matches have been announced for NXT Super Tuesday Part 2 from Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University.
The card for Saturday’s (September 5, 2020) AEW All Out has been finalized.
There have been some changes to the card as AEW President Tony Khan announced on Friday that Private Party vs. 3 and 4 of The Dark Order in a tag team match will now take place on the pre-show portion.
On the flip side, Britt Baker vs. Big Swole in a Tooth and Nail Match, which is a Falls Count Anywhere cinematic match at Baker’s dentist office, has been moved from the pre-show to the main card.

Vince McMahon is apparently done with his talent working with third parties and is trying to put a stop to it.
Wrestling Inc reported on Friday that the WWE Chairman and CEO sent out an edict this past week that talent can no longer “engage with outside third parties.” This would be the likes of Cameo and Twitch.
The company held a call with wrestlers last Sunday about the reinvention of the product and it was stated that WWE owns the real names of talent, not just their character names.
Then on Thursday, McMahon issued a letter stating that it was imperative that they promote and protect the brand in every conceivable way. Thus, wrestlers have 30 days to stop engaging with third parties.
“Some of you are engaged with outside third parties using your name and likeness in ways that are detrimental to our company,” McMahon wrote. “It is imperative that these activities be terminated within the next 30 days (by Friday, October 2). Continued violations will result in fines, suspension, or termination at WWE’s discretion.”
McMahon added that these actions are necessary as part of WWE’s rebuilding process because they are set to “enter the next phase of growth at WWE.”
Shortly after the news broke, Renee Young, who recently departed from the company, sent out this funny message:
Sooooooo guess now would be a good time to launch my Twitch and Cameo??
It will be interesting to see whether everyone in WWE stops using Cameo or Twitch. AJ Styles has gained a big following on his Twitch account as of late.
Akam and Rezar are no longer under contract with WWE.
The company announced on Friday that they have decided to release the two stars from their contracts. WWE issued the following statement on their departures:
“Akam and Rezar released. WWE has come to terms on the release of Akam and Rezar (AOP). We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”
WWE has come to terms on the release of Akam and Rezar (AOP). We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. https://t.co/26hOhQL2vS
As of this writing, the Authors of Pain have yet to comment on the news. Kevin Owens did comment on WWE’s decision by writing the following:
“Those guys beat the hell out of me for months…and I can say with complete honesty that I enjoyed every second of it. Good luck, boys. Hopefully, we’ll share a ring again one day and if so, you can bet you have some receipts coming you way!”
Rezar suffered a bicep injury in March. This injury put the team on the shelf once again. As a result, it halted their push on the RAW brand and ended their alliance with Seth Rollins.
It had been reported that Paul Heyman was a big fan of the tag team when he was working creative as the RAW Executive Director at that time.
Because Rezar was out of aAkam and Rezar Released By WWEction, the decision was made then to also pull Akam off TV until Rezar was able to return.
The tag team was created in February of 2016 where they would hold the NXT Tag Team Titles once.
Chris Jericho will face Orange Cassidy in a Mimosa Mayhem match at All Out. It will be the third match they have had in what has been a months long rivalry now between the two. Jericho recently spoke to SI.com and noted that at first, he didn’t really like Orange Cassidy.
“When I first came to AEW, I was not a fan of Orange Cassidy. I just didn’t get it. When I actually spent some time with him, watching his matches and seeing how he connected with the audience, I realized that he’s over. That’s the secret of wrestling: getting over. He’s over because he’s doing something no one’s ever done before,” Jericho said.
Jericho said that Cassidy being a type of character fans have never seen before is why he wanted to work with him. He spent some more time during the interview discussing what he wanted fans to see from Orange Cassidy during the program.
“This is a guy that hasn’t been in a main-event program before. I thought, let’s put him in one and see a side of Orange Cassidy, a violent side, that we’ve never seen before. Let’s see the Orange Cassidy that cuts a great promo and see how he does in an extended program. I believe we started this the week after Stadium Stampede, so it’s close to 14 weeks for this program.”
Jericho also noted that they two have had some entertaining segments on Dynamite and now will have a big match on PPV.
“We created some really good TV, and this is going to be a great pay-per-view blow-off match for this program,” Jericho continued.
During the broadcast Jon Moxley would discuss the AEW Tag Team division; saying how stacked it already is with the likes of FTR, The Young Bucks and Private Party. Moxley would also talk about how he would like to maybe enter the division down the line.
Jon Moxley on AEW Tag Division
“You know I’ve often thought about that actually” Jon Moxley stated on the show. “Because eventually you clear out everybody in the [singles] division, so to speak. And basically [at some point] you’re gonna get knocked off the throne.”
“I would definitely be interested in doing a tag team run like sometime down the line” Jon Moxley continued. “Because I really love [tag wrestling]. I was wrestling a match the other night with me and Darby Allin, and realized I hadn’t had a tag match in a while.”
Moxley elaborated further, saying “I was getting excited, I was like ‘oh I haven’t been a tag match in a while, this is fun.’ I love putting together tag matches, you have double the guys to work with, double the tools to create things.”
Moxley would then talk who he would consider as a tag partner in the company. “I would definitely consider like finding an optimal partner and really making a run in the tag division. Because also? We have such a great tag division. You have guys like The Young Bucks and FTR, and other young guys like Private Party.”
“So we have this amazing tag division. To work with those guys? I’m gonna be working with the best tag teams in the world. Maybe me and Brodie [Lee] could do like a Shield/Wyatt family super team or something? Or maybe like a guy…somebody that would compliment me, you know? A guy like PAC? Or even like a younger guy like a Joey [Janela] or a Darby [Allin]. Something like that?”

Jonathan Huber is now known as Brodie Lee in AEW. He is the leader of the Dark Order and the new TNT Champion. Previously, he was known as Luke Harper during his 7-year career in WWE. Speaking with ESPN, Brodie Lee said that Luke Harper had a good career in WWE but he doesn’t want fans to see him as the guy who used to play that character.
“Luke Harper had a wonderful career in WWE, if you really look at it and break it down, he had a really good career,” Lee said. “But I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, that used to be Luke Harper’ when they see Brodie Lee. I want them to be like, ‘Holy f—, that’s Brodie Lee, and he’s the man.'”
AEW President Tony Khan was also interviewed about Lee’s contributions to AEW thus far.
“He’s got the great physical size. He didn’t do so many promos in WWE, but he’s actually a great promo,” said Khan. “And so he was from the beginning someone that we figured to be a top person in AEW as soon as he signed with us.”
Lee also spent some time during the interview talking about learning to trust his instincts again upon arriving in AEW.
“I had to understand that my instincts were correct again,” said Lee. “I was almost seeking out so many opinions because that’s where I came from, that’s what it was. It was lots of people putting pieces in, instead of just letting myself be who I am.”
It was reported earlier this week that Brock Lesnar is no longer under contract with WWE. His deal with the company is said to have expired in April. His merchandising arrangement with WWE expired just recently. According to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, sources within WWE do not believe it makes sense to sign Lesnar to a new deal right now.
“One person in the company noted that it makes no sense to sign Lesnar to a new deal at the moment, as it would only be to keep him from AEW,” wrote Dave Meltzer. He would continue to say that the source doesn’t believe signing Lesnar is something AEW would do right now. The price tag that comes along with Lesnar’s services would be greater than the value he would provide.
From WWE’s perspective, signing Lesnar only makes sense if you have big Saudi Arabia shows and/or WrestleMania to promote.
“It was said that for Lesnar, like for Tyson Fury (who issued a challenge to Drew McIntyre this past week for a match), that it’s at this point Saudi Arabia and WrestleMania as the only shows that make sense right now and the belief right now is Saudi Arabia won’t happen this year,” Meltzer continued.
Lesnar’s free agency has made headlines in the world of MMA as well. Jon Jones has stated he would be interested in fighting the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.
It looks like with no Saudi shows or WrestleMania on the horizon, WWE won’t be signing Lesnar anytime soon. WWE is not worried about losing him to AEW either. They don’t think the price tag he demands would be worth it to the company at the moment.
