Joe Koff: Cody & The Young Bucks Not Expected Back In ROH Next Year

1

Ring of Honor COO, Joe Koff, is not expecting the Young Bucks, Cody, or the rest of the Elite back in ROH next year. Koff spoke to Wrestling Inc recently regarding what the future holds for ROH in 2019.

“I don’t think (the Elite will return), and I don’t think that’s new news either,” Koff said regarding the pending departures. “They definitely have something in mind… and I’m very thankful for Cody and The Young Bucks and Page and their contributions to ROH.”

Members of the Elite played a pivotal role in ROH’s 2018. The promotion is used to talent making a splash and leaving, however.

“They were part of our great year,” Koff continued. “They’ll always be a part of the ROH family and I’m always excited when people choose to take a different direction or go in a different direction because it’s exciting for them as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.”

What Is Next For ROH? What Is Next For The Elite?

“These guys are very good marketers and very strong,” Koff said regarding the Elite. “Throughout the years, we’ve provided wrestlers a unique platform to showcase their talents to worldwide audiences. We’re so proud of our wrestlers, who’ve not only gone on to successful careers outside of ROH, but [also] the ones who have continued to stay here because they understand what ROH represents.”

Another big question remains for Ring of Honor as they approach Final Battle, however. What happens if Cody defeats Jay Lethal and regains the ROH World Championship.

“If he does it, then we’ll have to deal with it,” Koff answered. “I think Jay’s a formidable competitor. He’s been a great champion and I don’t think it will be a walk in the park for either. But as always, the best man will win and that speaks to itself.”

Ruby Riott Releases Statement Regarding Rivalry With Natalya

2

Last month, Ruby Riott broke sunglasses which used to belong to Natalya’s father, Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart, kick-starting a rivalry between the two. Recently on Total Divas, Natalya was shown giving the eulogy at her father’s funeral.

While Natalya would get a measure of revenge recently, defeating Riott in single’s action on Raw, the rivalry between the two appears to be far from over.

Riott sent out the following to Natalya on Twitter yesterday:

Ruby Riott and Natalya

Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart passed away this summer at the age of 63. He is said to have died after falling and hitting his head at his home. Natalya sent out the following statement on August 13th:

My dad was always a fighter and an incredibly special person. There was no one like him! I’m just gonna miss him so much. “On behalf of my entire family, we would also like to personally thank everyone for the outpouring of thoughts and prayers. It’s meant so much to us,” Natalya continued.

All Eight XFL Launch Cities Revealed

9

Earlier this week it was revealed by the official Twitter account of the XFL that they will reveal all eight teams playing in the inaugural season of the XFL reboot on December 5th. However, that’s not the only update on WWE Chairman Vince McMahon’s second attempt at the XFL that has been made.

According to a new listing on the league website, the following cities will host teams of the rebooted XFL:

  • Dallas
  • Houston
  • Los Angeles
  • New York
  • St. Louis
  • Seattle
  • Tampa Bay
  • Washington, DC

Also, XFL recently registered several domain names including three different formats each for 21 different cities, which the list includes all eight teams. The new season is slated to launch in 2020.

The original XFL only had one season, which took place in 2001 and was produced by WWE and NBC. Although NBC signed with WWE to air two seasons of the league, NBC pulled out of its broadcast contract for the XFL after the inaugural season, citing the poor viewership. The league ceased operations entirely in May 2001. The Los Angeles Xtreme was the XFL’s first and only champions. McMahon conceded that the league was a “colossal failure”.

What are your thoughts on this list of cities for the relaunch of the XFL?

Hulk Hogan Attends Charity Event For WWE (Photos)

0

Earlier this month, WWE Hall Of Famer Hulk Hogan made his return to WWE. Hogan served as the guest host for the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. “The Hulkster” came out to cut a promo to open up the show, but didn’t make another appearance after that. It looks like Hogan is now participating in even more WWE-related events outside the ring.

Hogan, along with fellow Hall Of Famer and friend Jimmy Hart, was a guest at the March of Dimes 35th Annual Sports Luncheon in New York City this week. The charity helped raise awareness for the fight against birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth. A total of $1.3 million was raised.

However, Hogan wasn’t the only WWE representative at the event. Others included Co-President Michelle Wilson, Co-President George Barrios, Executive VP of TV Production Kevin Dunn, Executive VP of Global Sales & Partnerships John Brody, Senior VP of Sales Dave Pattillo, and VP of Global Sales & Marketing Strategy John Stamatis. Hogan took to Twitter to comment on his appearance. You can see his statement, along with several photos of his appearance, below:

“Whatcha gonna do when the  and Hulkamania run wild with ? Well, we’ll help raise over $1,000,000 to help moms and babies, brother! It was a great day in New York with the maniacs. HH”

What do you think of Hogan’s charity appearance alongside WWE?

Matt Hardy Wants To Be RAW GM

4

The General Manager role over on Monday Night RAW is certainly in a shaky position. After WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle was seemingly given the boot from the role by Stephanie McMahon, Baron Corbin has stepped in to fill the vacancy. Although his position isn’t permanent, he has the potential to make it so.

Corbin will face Braun Strowman at the Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV). If Corbin wins, he will make his position as RAW GM permanent. However, if Strowman wins he will receive a Universal Title opportunity against Brock Lesnar. Corbin has also named former RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss to oversee the RAW Women’s Division.

With that being said, former RAW Tag Team Champion Matt Hardy would like to give the GM role a shot. He took to his Twitter recently and suggested that he’s interested in taking over the responsibility should the opportunity arise. Here’s what Hardy had to say:

“[VIDEO] GIMME AN OL’ RE-TWEET if you think I’m the most WONDERFUL GM that  could EVAH have!”

Many assume that Hardy’s role as an in-ring competitor with WWE is over. He has been working backstage in various roles in preparation for the next chapter of his wrestling career. Perhaps a stint as RAW GM could be in his future.

Would you like to see Hardy as the General Manager of RAW?

Two More Rumored XFL Cities Named

5

Two more potential cities have emerged for the XFL relaunch in 2020. Earlier this week, a report from KSDK surfaced suggesting that St. Louis has been the first team confirmed to receive an XFL team for the 2020 league. Now, Brad Shepard reports that Seattle is the second city that will receive an XFL team when the league makes the official announcement on December 5th:

https://twitter.com/TheBradShepard/status/1068307097023119360

Also, Pablo Maurer from The Athletic has reported that a third city, Washington D.C., will also have an XFL team. The Washington team will reportedly play their games at Audi Field, which fits about 20,000 fans:

To recap, the three cities reported thus far are St. Louis, Seattle, and Washington D.C.

The initial report from KSDK announcing St. Louis as the first XFL team provided some insight into the league’s planned schedule. The report states that there will be 10 regular season games, with half of those being played at the respective home team’s stadium. As for rule changes and things that will differ from the NFL, those have yet to be confirmed. However, it will likely be addressed in the XFL live stream scheduled for December 5th.

What do you think about the named XFL cities thus far?

EVOLVE Issues Statement On Impact Wrestling Pulling LAX From Events

3

Earlier this week it was announced by EVOLVE that Impact Wrestling stars LAX would be working upcoming events.

The promotion returns with two events to close out the year. EVOLVE 117 goes down on December 15th in Queens, NY while EVOLVE 118 takes place on December 16th in Deer Park, NY. At EVOLVE 117, EVOLVE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits vs. LAX vs. AR Fox & Leon Ruff was originally announced while at EVOLVE 118 it would’ve been Darby Allin & The Street Profits vs. Austin Theory & LAX.

Just a few hours later, EVOLVE booker Gabe Sapolsky revealed on Twitter that LAX had been pulled from these shows due to Impact Wrestling officials. The following statement was sent out in Friday’s WWN newsletter:

“We are sorry to inform you that Impact Wrestling has pulled LAX off the upcoming EVOLVE dates. EVOLVE officials were contacted by LAX and informed that they were needed for something else that weekend. No other explanation was given. Impact Wrestling didn’t contact EVOLVE officials and left it up to LAX. There is no heat on LAX as WWN understands the situation they were put in. EVOLVE officials had told LAX that the plan was to have matches with EVOLVE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits of Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins that weekend. EVOLVE was informed that LAX would not be able to lose in those matches. In order to avoid any political issues, EVOLVE made one night a triple threat match and the other night a six man tag.”

The statement sent out by the promotion continued, “This would give the fans the LAX vs. Street Profits matches they wanted, while protecting all parties politically. Unfortunately, Impact Wrestling waited until the matches were announced and then pulled the talent the next day. This all could have easily been avoided by not allowing LAX to take the dates in the first place. EVOLVE will no longer consider booking Impact Wrestling contracted talent moving forward. EVOLVE officials are currently working on a replacement and will have news early next week. We apologize for the lineup change, but assure you that EVOLVE will produce something special on for EVOLVE 117 December 15th in Queens, NY and EVOLVE 118 on December 16th in Deer Park, NY. Thank you for your support”

The promotion will be announcing more matches for these cards in the coming weeks as the events will be the final shows for the promotion of the year. Here are the updated cards:

EVOLVE 117 Card

  • Kassius Ohno vs. Darby Allin.
  • EVOLVE Champion Fabian Aichner vs. Austin Theory.
  • EVOLVE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits vs. TBA vs. AR Fox & Leon Ruff.

EVOLVE 118 Card

  • Darby Allin & The Street Profits vs. Austin Theory & TBA.
  • Kassius Ohno vs. Anthony Henry.

TGI Fridays Talks Relationship With The Young Bucks, Sponsoring All In

0

TGI Fridays recently revealed they have been marketing their restaurant to fans of professional wrestling. A new trend in marketing is for companies to develop “brand advocates” as opposed to paid endorsements. According to TGI Fridays, wrestlers make fantastic brand advocates.

Amanda Brown, senior manager of digital marketing at TGI Friday’s, spoke with VentureBeat about this new trend.

“We really do find that when we activate our brand advocates, we see a lot more of a positive lift in sentiment for our brand,” said Brown.

The Twitter account for Wendy’s often works a similar gimmick.

Young Bucks and TGI Fridays

TGI Fridays said they first discovered the Young Bucks when the brothers began Tweeting about their Tokyo location. Matt & Nick Jackson would jokingly refer to it as their favorite local restaurant while in Japan. The restaurant invited the Young Bucks to their headquarters the next time they were back in the United States.

“This is a true harmonious relationship that we’re building with these wrestlers,” Brown explained. “You could feel the excitement and the authenticity once we actually met them face to face and started engaging with them. That was the biggest opportunity for us to really bring an authentic influencer relationship to life, versus what we had previously been doing in our strategy with influencers, which is strictly paid.”

TGI Fridays said they wooed the Bucks by giving them VIP service. The Bucks then invited them to help sponsor All In.

https://twitter.com/MattJackson13/status/1030386709895233536

“They said, we’d love you to be a part of it because we love you and we know our fans love you,” Brown said. “To have that kind of an approach to a relationship and a sponsorship is completely different than anything I’ve ever seen before with a paid agreement. It also helped us build a bigger relationship with our consumers. Once we did sponsor that event, we got so much love from their fan base saying, ‘thank you so much for supporting our favorite wrestlers.’ We got to see the power of really building and establishing a good rapport with our influencers, treating them well, and really welcoming their fan base.”

In terms of how their sponsorship of All In worked out, TGI Fridays could not have been more thrilled.

“Sentiment, obviously, was through the roof,” Brown continued. “It was the second-largest spike that we had had all year in sentiment and overall volume and conversation.”

TGI Fridays and Baron Corbin

TGI Fridays then mentioned how a Twitter interaction with Baron Corbin helped give the restaurant some cost-effective exposure.

“We ended up developing a relationship with Baron Corbin and teasing him about getting fired from Friday’s, getting him a severance package of boneless wings,” she continued. “There’s a lot that just comes from embracing this niche audience that we didn’t know existed, and then turning that into not only sponsorships but new and expanded awareness of our brand.”

Jeff Hardy Discusses His Future In Pro Wrestling, Working With Samoa Joe

0

Former WWE United States Champion Jeff Hardy recently spoke to GuideLive.com to talk about various topics. Hardy is known for his wild antics during his matches and jumping off anything he can. This has led to his rise as a pro wrestler. Eventually, that will all catch up to him and he will have to retire from wrestling.

When asked about it, Hardy stated, “That’s one thing I don’t know. Because I truly do – especially like the Hell in a Cell match, and even now I have two beautiful daughters, a beautiful wife – but I truly do wrestle every match like it’s my last because even a live event could be my last match.”

Hardy stated that the craziest thing could happen within the blink of an eye and it could all be over. Thus, he tries to enjoy every match like it’s his last and love what he does which is entertain the fans.

As seen on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Minneapolis, MN at the Target Center on the USA Network, Hardy kicked off a feud with Samoa Joe. This would be their first program under the WWE banner. They were together while in TNA which he touched upon when asked about working with Joe.

Same thing with A.J. [Styles]. And it’s cool to think back then what we were doing in TNA, and to see us now in WWE. And after that intense moment of him interrupting my celebration, it’s going to be a great feud. So, I’m looking forward to what’s going to happen in the weeks to come.”

Becky Lynch On Being The Man In WWE, Working With Shawn Michaels & The Miz

0

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch spoke to Hollywood Life to talk about various topics including the chance to work with Shawn Michaels and The Miz while filming the Marine 6: Close Quarters. She stated that she took notice of how Miz navigated the film, how he conducted himself, and how he treated everybody. She brought up how he’s a great leader and created this great atmosphere.

Regarding the WWE Hall of Famer, she stated that Michaels is an incredible wrestler and actor. Lynch believes there’s nothing that he can’t do.

Over the past few months, she has given herself the ‘The Man’ nickname in WWE. “That confidence? You know, the thing of it is, it’s always an inside job, right? It doesn’t come overnight. This is something that I’ve been working on for a long time, and why this works so well is because we’ve seen me not have confidence. We’ve seen me persevere. We’ve seen every obstacle being thrown my way and finding a way to deal with it. But, it’s all about believing in yourself, and I always say, you know, you’re the only person that lives in your head.”

Lynch continued by stating that although you can tell yourself how bad you are all day, it’s better to think that you are great. She thinks that just have to constantly work on believing in yourself, and believing that you’re enough. “Have faith that you’ve got everything that it takes to make it. If you put the work in? Of course, you do.”

Chris Jericho Posts Photo With Impact Wrestling Management Team

2

Chris Jericho was in Toronto last night for a Fozzy concert at the Rockpile. While in town he evidently met with the Impact Wrestling management team of Scott D’Amore, Don Callis, and Ed Nordholm.

Jericho posted a photo of the four of them along with Jericho’s father (and former New York Ranger), Ted Irvine.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq0GnsPlMV7/?utm_source=ig_twitter_share&igshid=1lg9vw9lennnt

Anthem Sports and Entertainment’s head office is located in Toronto.

Chris Jericho and Impact Wrestling

Jericho has been linked to Impact since his friend Don Callis was appointed co-Vice President. Callis takes credit for bringing Jericho into NJPW and setting up the WrestleKingdom match between Kenny Omega and Jericho last January. Jericho, Callis, and Omega are all from Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

Jericho and Impact Wrestling worked together in October as well for the Chris Jericho Rock N Rager at Sea. He had originally booked just Ring of Honor wrestlers to appear on the cruise but Impact’s involvement was confirmed earlier this year as well.

Earlier this month, the Wrestling Observer printed the following regarding a potential Impact and NJPW talent-sharing arrangement.

“(NJPW) didn’t use guys like Brian Cage and John Morrison because they were Impact guys,” Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer. “And stopped some of their own talent from working Impact.”

Many things in wrestling seem destined to change in 2019, however. Jericho, Callis, D’Amore, and Nordholm may have touched upon that subject last night.

Dieter Jr also faced British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) alongside Timothy Thatcher and WALTER.

Mia Yim Talks Signing With WWE, NXT Goals, Mae Young Classic Experience

WWE NXT star Mia Yim recently did an interview with Byron Saxton of WWE.com to talk about various topics. During the interview, she was asked how she’s settling into her role as an official member of the NXT roster. She stated that it’s a dream job but it doesn’t feel like a job and wakes up every morning thankful for her life and being able to train at the WWE Performance Center. She brought up how she has a bunch of friends in WWE both ones she made since signing and those who she has known from the indy scene.

When asked about the opportunity to compete in the Mae Young Classic came about, she brought up how she was invited and was able to wrestle two friends from the indies, Sarah Logan and Shayna Baszler.

It was kind of a full-circle moment because I wrestled both of them when they first started and then we got to showcase our skills on the big stage. I caught up with Nattie, Charlotte and Maria Kanellis, who continue to give me motivation and advice. I got overall good feedback from the coaches and agents. I received another invite to the second Mae Young Classic, but I was nervous because it would be my first big showing since my injury. After the numerous tryouts, extra work and the last Classic, I was determined to land a full-time spot on the NXT roster.”

Finn Balor Pokes Fun At Baron Corbin

Former WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor decided to have some fun with Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre on social media when he posted this photo of them on a film poster in order to mock them all to continue their recent feud, which you can see here:

As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW in Milwaukee, WI at the Fiserv Forum on the USA Network, Corbin and McIntyre beat Balor in a handicap match that ended up serving as the main event of the show and was beaten down after the match was over by the heels.

Mark Henry Discusses His Hall Of Pain Run, Current WWE Role

0

WWE Hall Of Famer Mark Henry recently appeared on the E&C Pod Of Awesomeness with former WWE/ECW star Tommy Dreamer and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Christian where he discussed a wide range of topics.

Henry’s last match came when he worked a Royal Rumble match at the Greatest Royal Rumble pay-per-view event back in April. This was after 10 months of him confirming that his 21-year in-ring career was coming to an end. When asked what he’s doing now, he noted that “I have been doing the [WWE] ambassador thing, I am not doing it currently, right now the only thing I am employed to do is with Sirius XM.” He added that he owns his Strongman show and planning the first show in Washington D.C.

Henry has been with the company since 1996. He was just 24-years of age when he decided to get into the pro wrestling business. During his time with the company, he held the WWE World Heavyweight Title, ECW Title, and European Title. Most people including Henry believe that his best run was when he did his Hall of Pain gimmick.

Henry said, “That was probably my best work and I was given the chance to do what I wanted. I had the freedom to have a promo segment against somebody like John Cena.” He continued by stating that when he walked between those ropes, it was all him and was only told by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon to not hurt anybody. That was all the direction he was given.

JBL Apologizes For Drunken Tweets At Cody Rhodes

John Bradshaw Layfield turned 52 last night. Evidently, he opted to have a few drinks to celebrate. During the course of his evening, JBL posted several Tweets in regards to Cody Rhodes. The former WWE Champion said he could take either Cody or his “daddy” – the late Dusty Rhodes.

The following morning, JBL acknowledged that he was under the influence of “one too many” adult beverages when he was trash talking Cody and Dusty Rhodes.

JBL then offered an apology for at one point (in a possibly deleted Tweet) saying he’d “kill” Cody. JBL offered up an apology for those comments:

“Was having fun with Cody last night and said I’d kill Cody Rhodes, I obviously didn’t mean that literally. It was a very poor choice of words, I go way back with him and his family and I just was talking smack in a pro wrestling sense. I apologize for that poor choice of words.”

Cody Responds To JBL

Cody didn’t offer up much a response to JBL’s comments:

Matt Jackson then noted he has been blocked from seeing JBL’s Tweets:

JBL has been offering up a few explanations this morning:

“I go way back with Dusty, tagged with Murdoch/Dusty’s old partner. I didn’t mean disrespect to Dusty. It’s what happens when elation from a Cowboys win, my birthday, talking smack and booze mix.”

Kane’s Former Boss Thinks He Has Heat With Him

2

Kane’s former Boss and the owner of USWA wrestling promotion Jerry Jarrett recently set down with The Hannibal TV to talk about a number of things and suggested that he may have heat with the Big Red Monster.

Jerry revealed that he saw Kane at the Hall Of Fame but he believes that the former World Champion ignored him. He also recalled sending a tweet to him while Kane, real name Glenn Jacobs was running for office and how he did not receive a reply from the Monster.

Jarrett then talked about how he supported him when Kane’s mother used to call him and be suspicious about his career in pro wrestling and revealed that he was the one who flew Glenn to New York and introduced him to Vince McMahon.

Finally, he implied that he doesn’t know for sure but other stars like Sting and Scott Hall run through the crown to meet him and that’s a big difference from what Kane did.

For those who don’t know, USWA was one of the top promotions Kane worked for before being signed by WWE and he wrestled for the company from 1993 to 1995.

He was a top star for the promotion and also won the USWA World Championship during his time there, before being signed by WWE in 1995.

Impact Tag Team Title Match Set For Homecoming

Against Konnan’s best wishes, Santana and Ortiz challenged Pentagon and Fenix to a match at Homecoming last night on Impact. Two weeks ago, LAX told Konnan they wanted to face the Lucha Brothers for the titles but Konnan said he didn’t want to see that match. Evidently, LAX chose to ignore his advice and challenged the brothers to a match at Homecoming anyway.

Pentagon and Fenix had just defeated Willie Mack and Rich Swann when LAX made the challenge. Impact Wrestling management would make the match official shortly after.
