Johnny Gargano Hypes Bout with Aleister Black at NXT TakeOver: WarGames II

0

NXT’s Takeover: WarGames II takes place tonight from Los Angeles, California at the Staples Center and will air on the WWE Network.

One of the featured bouts sees Johnny Gargano take on Aleister Black in a long anticipated bout. Johnny ‘Wrestling’ turned heel when it was revealed that he attacked Black ending speculation on the long built storyline. The reveal took place back in October. Gargano has been spiralling more and more into the ‘delusional heel’ character with him writing in a recent tweet “The humble hard working kid who fights for what’s right vs The self-entitled guy who sits alone in a dark room filled with Birthday candles. You KNOW who the real hero of this story is and you KNOW what to do, Staples Center.”

You can check out our live discussion and results on the main page tonight.

Gargano sent out a tweet with a short video outlining the feud and hyping the bout, check it out below.

NJPW World Tag League Korakuen Hall (11/18) Full Card

0

New Japan Pro Wrestling’s November scheduling is usually dominated by the World Tag League shows – and 2018 is no different. This year’s lineup of shows will of course feature some of NJPW’s top stars, but there are some notable exceptions. Some of the shows will be available on NJPWWorld.

The main headline grabbers are once again the World Tag League bouts themselves. Takashi Iizuka and Minoru Suzuki will be taking on Davey Boy Smith Jr and Lance Archer. Toru Yano and Tomohiro Ishii will also be taking on Suzuki-gun’s Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. The interesting pairing of Jeff Cobb and Michael Elgin will headline against SANADA and EVIL.

Here’s the full card for the World Tag League in Korakuen Hall (11/18):

  • David Finlay and Juice Robinson vs Yuya Uemura and Yota Tsuji
  • Ren Narita and Tomoaki Honma vs Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga
  • Satoshi Kojima, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Toa Henare and Togi Makabe vs Shota Umino,, Ayato Yoshida, Manabu Nakanishi and Yuji Nagata
  • Chuckie T, Beretta and Hirooki Goto vs Yujiro Takahashi, Hangman Page and Kota Ibushi
  • SHO, YOH and Kazuchika Okada vs Shingo Takagi, BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito
  • 1st WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018: Tournament Match – Takashi Iizuka and Minoru Suzuki vs Davey Boy Smith Jr and Lance Archer
  • 2nd WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018: Tournament Match – Toru Yano and Tomohiro Ishii vs Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr
  • 3rd WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018: Tournament Match – Jeff Cobb and Michael Elgin vs SANADA and EVIL

Will Ospreay’s Frontline Promotion Announces 2019 Show

0

NJPW star Will Ospreay has announced the next show for his Frontline Wrestling promotion.

CHAOS Restored will be taking place on 10th January at the Stratford Circus in London, England. The main event for the show has already been confirmed, it will be Mark Haskins versus David Starr.

Frontline revealed their new On Demand streaming service via the Pivotshare platform earlier this year. The service is available at a $4.99 per month cost and features the first two shows from the company. ‘Build Me An Empire’ and ‘S.P.I.R.I.T’ took place earlier this year and feature a stellar line up of talent.

Bulld Me An Empire is certainly worth the cost alone. The main event featured an outrageous bout between Chris Ridgeway and Japan’s KENOH. Ridgeway is an accomplished ‘strong style’ combatant in his own right but this match at the top of the card will be the bout that catapults him into the upper echelons of both the UK scene and, hopefully, Japan (much like how Ospreay’s bout against Okada for Rev Pro got him on a plane going East). We spoke to Ospreay earlier this year and he discussed his want to bring ‘puroresu‘ to the United Kingdom, this big time main event and the reaction from the crowd in attendance seems to solidify that strong style/puroresu has truly arrived in Britain.

Another up-and-coming star on the independent scene has gone down to injury. “Mr. Fun Size” Marko Stunt revealed following last night’s show that he suffered a broken fibula at Game Changer Wrestling’s PPV last night.

Stunt was wrestling Eli Everfly when the injury occurred. Twitter user @GIFSkull posted video of the injury:

Marko Stunt Breaks Leg On Game Changers Wrestling PPV

Less than 3 weeks after both Joey Janela and Marko Stunt appeared at All In, Janela wrestled Psychosis on a GCW PPV. While diving from the ring ropes to the floor, Janela suffered multiple injuries to his knees. He required surgery and is expected to be out 9 months to a year.

Janela posted the following to Twitter early this morning in regards to Stunt’s injury:

“Unfortunately my man @MarkoStunt suffered a bad break of his Fibula and needs immediate surgery in the morning, can we take care of him in whatever means necessary everyone?”

Cody Rhodes Will Require Surgery For Torn Meniscus

0

Cody Rhodes will require surgery for a torn meniscus. The recovery time for the surgery is expected to be about 6 weeks. In order to not miss two big dates coming up in December and January, Cody will be delaying the surgery until early 2019. He will honor his commitments for Ring of Honor next month, his final appearances for the promotion.

Cody will challenge Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship on December 14th. He claims if he wins the title at the PPV, he will take it with him into free agency.

NJPW seems to be building a rematch between Juice Robinson and Cody for WrestleKingdom as well. Cody has previously defeated Juice at WrestleKingdom in 2017 and beat him for the IWGP United States title at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in September. Juice challenged Cody to another match after replacing him and defeating Beretta at Global Wars: Toronto.

Cody Working Injured

Cody was forced to pull out of his planned title defense against Beretta after suffering the injury at Global Wars: Buffalo. According to Cody, he was running around with a T-shirt gun when he heard his knee pop. It was later revealed he’d have to pull out of his match that Sunday against Beretta. Cody did make it to the Meet N Greets before the event, however.

Shane Strickland Leaving MLW, Expected To Sign With WWE

0

Former MLW Champion, Shane Strickland, will be finishing up with the company next month. There is rumored interest from WWE for Strickland as well. WWE is expected to announce several new signings in January and Strickland could potentially be one of them.

According to a report from PW Insider, Strickland’s last shows with MLW will be the 2-night Fusion tapings in Miami on December 13th to 14th.

WWE’s interest in Strickland was first reported in August. “Shane Strickland is another name (WWE) are looking at and will be coming in for a future look,” Dave Meltzer wrote this summer. Low-Ki defeated Strickland for the MLW World title just weeks before the report was published on July 12th.

Shane Strickland To WWE?

The 30-year-old Strickland’s first breakthrough in wrestling came as a member of the CZW roster in 2012. He later joined the Lucha Underground roster under the name “Killshot” in 2015. While in Lucha Underground, he took part in a well-reviewed angle with AR Fox that culminated in a Weapons of Mass Destruction match.

In 2018, Strickland has debuted for MLW, AAA, and EVOLVE earlier this year. He’s a former CZW Champion, MLW Champion, EVOLVE Champion, and was ranked #221 by Pro Wrestling Illustrated this year.

Strickland faced Low-Ki in a rematch for the MLW title at MLW: Fightland. The match will air in the coming weeks on Fusion.

James Ellsworth Denies He Sent Nude Photos To Underage Fan

5

Former WWE Superstar James Ellsworth is denying that he recently sent nude images of himself to an underage fan.

Earlier this week, the 16-year-old female accuser went public on social media and began releasing screenshots of what Ellsworth allegedly sent her.

In a statement issued by his lawyer, Ellsworth vehemently denies the claims.

“My client, James Morris, known publicly and professionally as James Ellsworth has become aware of a number of baseless allegations. Mr. Morris has the utmost respect for women and categorically denies these inflammatory and despicable accusations.”

Ellsworth reportedly arrived at his scheduled booking for Big Time Pro Wrestling on Friday evening, but in the wake of the allegations, was asked to leave the event. He has also been fired from a YouTube show where he served as a host in light of the alleged events.

Ellsworth has also been removed from a planned Survivor Series event at Jimmy’s Seafood.

Kurt Angle Q&A: Best Advice From Vince McMahon, Modern Hair vs. Hair Match

0

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently did a Q&A on Facebook and commented on a number of interesting topics. Right off the bat, one fan asked him about the best advice he received from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

Angle responded by stating, “Have fun. Don’t take it too seriously. Enjoy performing because there will be a day that you won’t be able to anymore.”

Angle was also asked who he would like to see in a modern hair vs. hair match. The former WWE Champion knows what it takes to have a good match like this as he lost to Edge at the Judgement Day pay-per-view event on May 19, 2002, at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

The WWE Legend wrote, “Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins. Lots of hair on the line.”

Finally, he was asked if he wrestled Owen Hart before signing with WWE. Angle made his first appearance at a professional wrestling event in 1996 with his in-ring debut following in 1998. He signed a contract with the WWE that same year and participated in his first televised storyline in March 1999.

“Yes, I did. Owen carried me through the entire match. I learned to appreciate how good he truly was.”

Ember Moon Opens Up On Being Patient With Her WWE Main Roster Run

0

Ember Moon recently appeared on the Sky Sports Lock Up podcast to talk about a wide range of topics. The former NXT Women’s Champion talked about being called up after a successful run in NXT to make her debut on their flagship show, Monday Night RAW, on the April 9, 2018 episode, which was the night after WrestleMania 34.

“I’m still getting there and I’m still looking for that highest high. When I got moved to Raw I felt like there was still a lot for me to do on NXT. It was a very overwhelming surprise when I got drafted. Triple H told me after my match at Takeover how well I’d done and I thought I was about to get fired but I got sent to Raw.”

Moon continued by stating that it felt like she was starting over and that every chance she got, she took advantage of it despite it being rushed as it’s hard to grab everything at once and it’s about being patient and seizing the right opportunity.

Moon was also asked about how fans reacted to her run in the WWE Evolution Battle Royal, which she responded by stating that she never expected the fans to react the way that they did by chanting her name. She brought up how she has always gone out there and done her own jam whether they like her or not.

“So that was the most overwhelming feeling I’ve had since I’ve been on Raw. I had that with Asuka at Takeover that people loved me but it’s been starting all over and baby steps on Raw.”

Naomi Talks Preferring To Be On SmackDown, Possible Women’s Tag Team Titles

1

Former WWE SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Naomi was recently interviewed by Newsweek to talk about a wide range of topics. During the interview, she was asked about potentially being moved over to the Monday Night RAW brand. This is where she nixed the idea.

“I’m super happy with where I am right now. They say RAW is the ‘A-Show’ but I truly believe SmackDown is. It’s an amazing show and I love all the people I work with. Eventually I would love to hold the RAW title at some point before I retire or make that transition.”

Naomi continued by stating that right now she loves being on SmackDown Live and that if her husband goes to RAW then that would lead the door to potentially being opened to make such a move.

She was asked about the rumors that WWE could be introducing Women’s Tag Team Titles. Naomi stated that she heard the rumors and hoping that WWE does introduce the titles at some point.

“I don’t see it happening in 2018, but maybe in 2019. I just hope it happens before I retire and before I leave, because I want to be the first to hold them with Asuka.”

Chris Jericho On Why Vince Changed Survivor Series, Takes Shot At Brock Lesnar

0

Daniel Bryan beat A.J. Styles for the WWE Championship this week. On Talk Is Jericho, Chris Jericho gave his insight on what he believes Vince McMahon’s thought process was like when making the decision to end Styles’ title reign of more than a year.

“I think that Vince wanted a buzz going into Survivor Series, because he lost his main event, which was Ronda vs. Becky,” Jericho said.

“He needed a buzz. ‘I need buzz-worthy. I will change the title.’ Because to him, A.J. and Bryan are the same. They’re both great workers. They’re both the same size.

Jericho’s explanation didn’t end there, as he also managed to work in a couple of thinly-veiled jabs at Brock Lesnar.

“They’re both going to get eaten alive by Brock depending on what kind of mood he’s in, if he even wants to have a match or whatever,” Jericho said.

“Because sometimes Brock will just show up and say ‘Yeah, we’ll just talk about it in the ring.’ That’s what happened with Ambrose at WrestleMania. They didn’t even go over anything.”

Jericho did not elaborate further. But from the context of the comments, and by invoking the Ambrose match, you can connect the dots on how Jericho feels about Lesnar’s professionalism.

Judge for yourself by listening to the full episode of Talk Is Jericho below.

Joey Ryan Injury Update

0

Joey Ryan took to Twitter to give an update on the severity of his recent injury.

We reported from the outset that Ryan’s injury was a torn pectoral. Ryan confirmed that fact by posting a screenshot that revealed the full extent of the damage, as confirmed by an MRI.

https://twitter.com/JoeyRyanOnline/status/1063493063543144448

The tweet also includes a link to Ryan’s Pro Wrestling Tees store. If you are looking for a way to lend some support his way while he is unable to wrestle a full schedule, you can visit the store here.

And if you watched MLW Fusion on YouTube Live Friday, no, you weren’t seeing a ghost.

Ryan, torn pectoral and all, teamed with Hornswoggle on Fusion, in an episode that was recorded on November 8.

https://twitter.com/JoeyRyanOnline/status/1063562799480168449

Ryan’s torn pectoral was the second such injury to befall a high profile wrestling star in recent weeks. Triple H suffered a torn pec as well at Crown Jewel.

Neither star currently has a firm timetable for when they might return to action.

Joey Ryan in 2018

It has been an interesting year so far in 2018. Ryan spent much of the summer competing on the independent scene all the while there were concerns he had been murdered by Adam “Hangman” Page. Eventually, it was revealed Ryan had been nursed back to health by his hot wife and had not actually died. Hopefully, said wife we’ll help him recover from this pec surgery as well.

Chis Jericho: Nia Jax’s Punch To Becky Lynch Looked “Legitimate, Deliberate”

9

On Friday’s Talk Is Jericho, Chris Jericho stated that the punch from Nia Jax that led to Becky Lynch’s broken face looked “legitimate [and], deliberate.”

To provide some context, Jericho was previewing Sunday’s Survivor Series card with co-hosts Jack Slade and John Howarth.

In discussing the switch from Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey to Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair, Jericho recounted the circumstances that forced the match to be changed.

“You know, stuff happens. If you see the punch that she took, oh my gosh, it didn’t look like a potato,” Jericho said. “It looked like a legitimate, deliberate punch to the face.”

“But, whatever, we’ll hold off judgment on that,” Jericho was quick to add.

Jericho also had some fun with the way that Lynch’s injury has been described.

“Becky got stiffed, st-izz-iffed, by Nia Jax, and they said she broke her face,” Jericho said. “Has anyone went to the doctor and been diagnosed with a broken face? Wouldn’t it be, like, a broken orbital bone?”

For the full context of Jericho’s comments, as well as the rest of his thoughts on Survivor Series, you can listen to the full episode of Talk Is Jericho below.

Edge Discusses Possibility Of In-Ring Return, WWE Stars He Likes

1

Even though Hall of Famer Edge has retired from professional wrestling since 2011, he has been part of the WWE in one way or another, particularly with his podcast E&C Pod of Awesomeness. Recently he discussed the possibility of himself making an in-ring return and which current WWE superstars has caught his eye.

Speaking to The New York Post, Edge revealed what he thinks his comeback to the ring would look like. Since Shawn Michaels came out of retirement recently, Edge was asked whether he thinks of making a return at his age.

“Ah no. (Laugh.) Well, here’s the thing: People as much as they want it, it’s not going to be what they want. It’s very rare. Especially when you get performers into their 40s and 50s, it’s not an easy job. It’s a very, very difficult thing physically.”

“I personally think your body isn’t meant to do it past 40 years old. It’s just a really, really physically demanding, taxing thing. And I know people hop in and they do one-offs here and there, but I just think it’s a matter of time before eventually they are going to get hit with some kind of injury bullet, because it’s not normal to do to your body, especially once you start getting up in middle age.”

Edge also thinks that former WWE Champion AJ Styles and IC Champion Seth Rollins could have a classic match with him, but it simply isn’t possible anymore for him.

“So, hey, do I know A.J. Styles and I could have an amazing match, Seth Rollins and I could tear it down and have a classic, yeah, if it were me at 35, not me at 45. And not me at 45 not having stepped in a ring for eight years.”

Edge made his debut in the WWE in 1997 and went on to hold 31 championships in his decorated career in the company. He retired in April of 2011 due to cervical spinal stenosis as he was deemed unclear to ever compete. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012.

The Rated R Superstar also discussed about the current WWE stars Becky Lynch and Drew McIntyre who have grabbed his attention.

“I’ve been kind of touting Becky for a while, just from the kind of organic reaction she’s gotten from the audience. They want her as the focal point of the division, and it was very, very obvious and thankfully they listened and kind of allowed it to happen, which is real cool and fun to watch.

I really like watching McIntyre right now. I think he reinvented himself. I’ve always really liked Drew and it’s great to see him come back with the right mentality and get this opportunity because he’s has that right mentality.”

Video Of Becky Lynch Learning She’s Not Cleared For Survivor Series Match

11

WWE’s YouTube channel has released some compelling behind-the-scenes look at SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch while backstage at this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in St. Louis, MO at the Enterprise Center that later aired on the USA Network.

It’s been a rough week for Lynch regarding everything that she’s gone through. First up, she led the women’s division of the blue brand in an invasion on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW in Kansas City, MO at the Sprint Center. This is where she was involved in a brawl that saw Nia Jax punch her in the face. As a result, she suffered a broken nose and concussion. This led to WWE officials making the call to pull Lynch from her scheduled champion vs. champion match against RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series.

It was also revealed that her replacement would be Charlotte Flair who will now face Rousey in a non-title match at Survivor Series. Lynch picked Flair during an in-ring segment.

This footage includes her first reaction to finding out the news after having a closed-door meeting with WWE officials and medical staff in which she was informed she wasn’t being allowed to compete on Sunday. You can check it out here.

Video: First Look At CM Punk In “Girl On The Third Floor” Movie

2

The first look at former WWE Champion CM Punk in his first starring role in a feature movie has surfaced online.

Punk stars as Don Koch in the haunted house thriller “Girl on the Third Floor.” Punk’s character was described as a man who is failing as a husband that believes he can make up for past mistakes by fixing up an old house. Don tears the house apart for renovations but the house starts to tear him apart as well, “revealing the rot behind the drywall.”

Trieste Dunn, Elissa Dowling, and newcomer Sarah Brooks are also featured in the movie that is being directed by Travis Stevens. As of this writing, there’s no word yet on when “Girl on the Third Floor” will be released but it was recently noted that the film is in post-production now and is expected to be in theaters next year.

“I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to take on the lead role in Girl On The Third Floor,” said Punk, real name Phil Brooks to Deadline back in September. “I’m a longtime personal fan of genre films and this project was an absolute natural fit for me.”

Jim Ross Clarifies Details Surrounding His AXS TV Departure

0

Jim Ross announced recently his contract with AXS TV is up and he’s currently unable to negotiate a new one. JR mentioned that neither NJPW nor AXS TV played a role in him not signing a new deal to call NJPW.

He sent out the following Tweet today to provide further details on his departure from the network.

“To clarify the speculation, my departure from @AXSTV had zero to do with @njpwglobal or @mcuban’s network. My contract ends at years end and I was unable to legally negotiate a new arrangement. #ItsJustBusiness #NeverSayNever”

Jim Ross Contract Situation in 2019

JR originally addressed his contract situation this week on his podcast.

“It’s a tough week for me with AXS TV,” Ross said. “I’m here (in Los Angeles), going to do my last three shows for them (yesterday). That will take us through the end of the year on our Friday night slot on Mark Cuban’s network.”

He then explained that his contract with WWE extends until the end of March. It seems likely then that he would be unable to negotiate a new deal with AXS or NJPW until that time.

“My shows will run through the end of the year, that’s when my contract will be expiring. So then, I have a contract with WWE that will end at the end of March,” Ross continued.

JR has consistently said he has plenty of options available to him and that 2019 should be an interesting year for the business.

“And then we’ll see where things go. I have a lot of options, a lot of opportunities. I’m very blessed with everything that’s happened.”

Johnny Gargano On Facing Aleister Black, Learning From Shawn Michaels

Johnny Gargano did a Q&A session with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated to promote NXT TakeOver: WarGames II event in Los Angeles, California at the Staples Center on the WWE Network where’s slated to wrestle former NXT Champion Aleister Black in a singles match.

Gargano stated that in his head, he made a mistake as the only reason Tommaso Ciampa is NXT champion is because of him and tried to make up for that mistake. This led to Black getting in the way as he has nothing personal against Black.

“I have no problem against the guy, but he got in the way. The end justifies the means, and the end is going to be Johnny Gargano defeating Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT championship. That will fulfill a promise, little kids will be happy, everyone will be going nuts. If one guy in Black needed to be jumped for that to happen, then I’m sorry. It had to happen.”

Over the past few years, WWE Hall of Famer has taken more of a focus on teaching younger talent at the WWE Performance Center. When asked about learning from HBK, he stated that Michaels has always been a hero of his and being able to work with him in order to pick his brain is truly the best-case scenario.

He stated that he never thought he’d ben able to work with Michaels but doing so has been mind-blowing.

“And not just Shawn, but also Triple H, as well. Their minds work on a different level, and you can tell why NXT is as hot as it is and why stories are so compelling. They are running the show. It’s a dream come true. If you told me when I was eight years old that one day I’d work for WWE with an action figure and work as an ambassador for a video game, and also work side-by-side with Shawn Michaels and Triple H, I would have said, ‘You’re crazy!’ But here we are, and it’s amazing.”
