British Championship Match Announced for Wrestle Kingdom 13

0

Revolution Pro held their Uprising 2018 event this past Friday from Bethnal Green’s York Hall. Tomohiro Ishii defended his Rev Pro British Heavyweight Championship in the main event. Ishii defended against David Starr and successfully retained his title.

Zack Sabre Jr and his fellow Suzuki-gun stablemates appeared after the match. Minoru Suzuki and ZSJ attacked Ishii and Zack announced that he wanted his rematch for the British Championship at New Japan’s biggest event: Wrestle Kingdom.

Opinion: This is a huge moment in the history of British wrestling. Having a huge singles bout between ZSJ and Ishii for Rev Pro’s biggest accolade cements the importance and hype being the UK scene right now. Ishii and ZSJ can be regarded as the workhorses of their respected regions. Having the Rev Pro British Heavyweight Championship on the show also adds another dimension to WK. The title can be used as a marquee bout for shows going forward.

If you’re in the UK you can catch Rev Pro on FreeSportsUK. The UK based company will be using the nationwide channel as the home for their new TV show going forward.

You can check out the exclusive interview we conducted with Rev Pro owner Andy Quildan here. When we discussed the timing of the new show Andy confirmed that “WoS had no impact on our decision. In all honesty whilst I watch as much product as possible from WWE, ROH, NJPW, CMLL to all the indies here in the UK, aside from learning best (or at times worst) practice I try not to let what others are doing dictate the way I choose to run my business.”

PROGRESS Title Defended at WWE Live Event

0

PROGRESS’ ATLAS division title was defended at a rather interesting venue this weekend. A SmackDown-brand house show took place in Brighton, England on Friday and NXT UK Superstar Trent Seven was in action.

Seven is the ATLAS Champion in PROGRESS. The ATLAS title was designed as a belt for the over 205 pound stars in PROGRESS. Trent Seven won the title at PROGRESS’ Wembley Arena show in September against Doug Williams. The British legend Williams was forced to retire per the stipulation of the match after Seven pinned him with a cross-body.

Zack Gibson was the challenger for the belt in Brighton. Seven took the win and successfully defended the Championship. Trent is due to defend his title today in PROGRESS’ Chapter 78 event ’24 Hour PROGRESS People’ at the O2 Ritz in Manchester.

Maria Kanellis Talks Relationship With The Bella Twins, If She’s Interested In Wrestling

0

During a Q&A session on Twitter on Saturday, Maria Kanellis answered questions on her relationship with The Bella Twins, her return to the ring at WWE Evolution, if she’s interested in wrestling more, her current run in WWE, and more. Below are some of the highlights:

While watching Brie and Nikki Bella on Raw in July 2013, Maria Kanellis claimed in a since-deleted tweet that they blocked her from returning to WWE earlier that year, writing, “I was offered a @wwe contract and the Bellas made sure I didn’t get it. I’m not bitter. I just don’t like people that mess with my career.”

Flip Gordon Comments On The Elite Possibly Leaving ROH

1

Flip Gordon’s popularity has grown considerably this last year. Much of that can be attributed to his frequent appearances on Being the Elite. The 26-year-old spoke to Wrestling Inc recently on a variety of subjects recently. Perhaps most notably, however, Flip addressed the possibility of the Elite leaving ROH and what that could mean for him.

“If they do leave, anything can happen,” Gordon said. “There’s so much time between now and whenever whatever’s supposed to happen. If they leave, that just opens up more opportunities. Just like when I came to ROH, there were a lot of guys that left. That’s why I got to where I am so fast, because these opportunities were available for me.”

Flip Gordon On Becoming The “Face of ROH”

If the Elite do leave ROH, Gordon could possibly be pegged as a new top-guy for the promotion. He also addressed the possibility of becoming the “face of ROH” during the interview.

“That is my goal,” He continued. “I re-signed with ROH and I’m with them until 2020. I knew that when I signed the contract, this is a commitment. Two years I’m with ROH. So if people leave, great! That is just more opportunities for me. If they stay, great! That’s even harder I have to work then because I still want those spots.”

Kurt Angle Says He Wants To Wrestle More, Names Dream Opponents

4

Kurt Angle had his first two single’s matches in WWE since 2006 earlier this month. He lost both of them. Angle lost to Dolph Ziggler in the 1st round of the WWE World Cup and then on Monday night, he was soundly beaten by Drew McIntyre in the main event.

He was asked by a fan on his Facebook page recently what is next for him in WWE.

“I don’t know,” Angle responded. “I do want to wrestle more, I just started wrestling again so it’s going to take a few matches before I get the kinks out, especially being older now. I’m hoping I get a little bit more consistent wrestling in the future. Either way, I love contributing. We will see.”

Kurt Angle Facebook Q&A Highlights

Angle was also asked what his thoughts are on Shane McMahon winning the World Cup.

“Shane has proven himself to be a great sports entertainer,” Angle responded. “I would have preferred him to earn the World Cup Title by wrestling in the tournament though.”

Angle named his dream match during the Q&A session.

“2014 Kurt Angle vs 1989 Ric Flair. Damn, I’d pay good money to see that. Lol.”

He also named Kenny Omega as the man from NJPW he would most want to face.

Angle was also asked who from NXT he might want to wrestle some day and his answer was Velveteen Dream.

“I met Velveteen Dream on an Indy circuit 4 or 5 years ago,” Angle said. “I’m amazed at his progress. I’d love to have a match with him before I retire.”

Dolph Ziggler Talks His Second Career As A Stand-Up Comedian

0

In addition to being on Raw Monday nights, Dolph Ziggler also moonlights as a stand-up comedian. Ahead of WWE’s weekend in Los Angeles for Survivor Series, Ziggler will be playing a Friday night set at the Comedy Store.

His “DZ and Friends” show also includes comedian Sarah Tima and a few wrestlers that Ziggler describes as “people he’s lost to”.

Dolph Ziggler on Comedy, Hecklers, Trolls, and Seth Rollins

Ziggler was asked by CBS L.A recently about his aptitude for handling trolls on Twitter and how it compares to handling hecklers while doing stand-up.

“As a kid, being a smaller guy and getting bullied, I got used to zinging people back and making them pay for it,” he said. “You try to do that and also have fun, because there’s so much negativity out there, and I don’t want to be part of it.”

“It’s pretty nuts. I live for it, though,” Ziggler continued. “I’m a quick smart-mouth kind of guy so my whole life I’ve been ready with a quick jab back, which is all of social media now”

Ziggler also spoke about his wrestling career during the interview. He was asked specifically about his match with Seth Rollins at SummerSlam.

“When you’re as good as we are — and I mean that [humbly] — we know how good we are. You can still not have the chemistry. I’ve been in there with some of the best, and I was so frustrated because we just wouldn’t meld, or the story wouldn’t be correct, because two different people are telling two different things. He’s an up-and-coming kid, who is going to be one of the best of all-time. I have been there before, but also want to have this legacy that I can do whatever I want. If I’m ever given a chance, I knock it out of the park.”

0

Harold Meij Addresses “Westernization Of NJPW” Concerns

1

NJPW President, Harold Meij, recently spoke with Emily Pratt on a variety of subjects. Perhaps most notably, Meij addressed the criticism some of had lately of NJPW becoming “westernized”.

“What is the Westernization of wrestling? I don’t know. It’s for the fans to decide what that is,” Meij said. “But I can tell you, if it’s the definition that I have, which might be very much different from yours or anyone else’s out there – it’s their own definition, I think – but if it’s my definition of what I think Westernization of wrestling is, then we’re trying to do the exact opposite.”

“We are New Japan Pro Wrestling,” Meij continued. “So I’m trying to bring the Japanese way, the Japanese way of wrestling, to the global audience. And this has to do much more with the philosophy that we talked about earlier, but also our traditions. It has to do with the way we bring and educate, if you will, our wrestlers… We have great talent. We have great matches.”

Harold Meij On Why People Watch Wrestling

Meij also gave some interesting insight into why he believes people like watching wrestling matches.

“As an individual, there are times in your life when you have to fight,” Meij said. And I don’t mean literally fight, but, you know, you have to fight for a cause or fight to protect your family, or yourself, or your opinions, or for your job or your work or whatever you’re doing, but you have to fight.”

“But when I see people physically fighting and overcoming struggles,” he continued. “Like a lot of the wrestlers have, they put a lot of time in it, they overcome a lot of injuries or personal sacrifices or personal, how do you say, struggles, within the wrestling world, and when you see them give it their everything in their match, it actually gives you as a spectator strength and courage to do more than what you might not have done in the past. And I get that from a lot of the fans, that they say the same thing. They say that’s one of the reasons why wrestling is so attractive to them.”

Joey Ryan Tears Pec Muscle, May Require Surgery

0

Another torn pec has sent a professional wrestler to the injured list this month. 6 days after Triple H tore his pec in the main event of Crown Jewel, Joey Ryan announced he is suffering from the same injury.

Ryan appeared with his arm in a sling at the MLW: Fightland show in Chicago on Thursday. He was scheduled to wrestle alongside Swoggle under the team name “Size Matters”. Despite his injury, Ryan still competed in the match with his arm still in a sling. He’s had to pull out of several upcoming bookings, however.

Joey Ryan Pec Injury

Ryan sent the following out on Twitter to address his injury:

He would later update fans on his condition. Ryan is currently awaiting an MRI to see the extent of the injury.

https://twitter.com/JoeyRyanOnline/status/1061077532089364480

“I’m back in LA now and seeing my doctor at 3pm. The good news is that there’s virtually no pain and I still have full mobility. The bad news is that it looks terrible. Even more swelling & bruising than the pictures from yesterday. I’ll know more this afternoon.”

“My Dr thinks my chest has a tear because of all the swelling & is worried about it healing wrong & causing me discomfort forever. She wants me to get a MRI but I need a x-ray first & since it’s Friday, I won’t be able to until Monday. So I’ll know Monday if I need surgery or not.”

Taka Michinoku Suspended From Kaientai Dojo Due To Public Scandal

3

Suzuki-Gun’s Taka Michinoku has been suspended for one year without pay from the school and promotion he founded in 2002. The board of the Kaientai Dojo voted to suspend the former WWF Light Heavyweight Champion after a media outlet exposed he has been having an extra-marital affair, an offense considered more serious in Japan.

Michinoku has been removed as a board member and director but he is still the organization’s owner. He will not make any money from the organization for one-year, however, due to the board’s decision. This includes all revenue he would earn from wrestling matches for the promotion as well.

Taka Michinoku Suspended By Kaientai Dojo

Michinoku has been serving as Zack Sabre Jr.’s mouthpiece in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Earlier this spring, Zack Sabre Jr won the New Japan Cup with Taka as his second. ZSJ would then go on to challenge Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

The 45-year-old Michinoku wrestles sparingly these days. He usually teams with fellow Suzuki-Gun members in multi-person tag-team matches when he is not serving as the cornerman for Zack Sabre Jr.

Michinoku is a former 2x IWGP Junior Heavyweight tag-team champion along with Dick Togo once and again with Taichi. His most recent match was on November 1st when he teamed with Minoru Suzuki in a losing effort to Tomohiro Ishii and Rocky Romero.

David Arquette Talks Ric Flair Defending Him In WCW

0

David Arquette’s wrestling career has been revived in 2018. According to the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion, his comeback is not a publicity stunt either. “It’s too painful for that,” Arquette told ESPN recently.

He also told the media outlet he thought management was joking in 2000 when they told him they were putting the belt on him.

“I thought it was a bit of a joke and he was like, ‘No, I’m serious. I think [my] response was, ‘That’s a terrible idea. No, we can’t do that,’ but then they explained the storyline that I wasn’t pinning a wrestler. I was pinning Eric Bischoff.”

Ric Flair Defends David Arquette

Arquette continued to say the reason he went through with it is he wanted to have the experience.

“To be honest, the reason I wanted to do it was so I could be part of it. The fact of the matter was, yeah, I get to be the champion. Whoever gets that opportunity? Part of that was that I would get to travel with all of them and see behind the curtain and walk through the airport with Hulk Hogan and be on the same show as Ric Flair. For a fan of wrestling if I hadn’t done that, I never would have had that experience — and to me, life is about experiences.”

He also said that Ric Flair was one of the guys who defended him.

“Ric Flair at one point put his arms around me and said, ‘Hey guys, he’s one of us.’ That made me feel really great.”

Cody Vs Beretta – IWGP United States Championship

ROH held three Global War shows this week in Lowell, Lewiston, and Buffalo. The 4th and final show of the tour is the Global Wars: Toronto show on November 11th. The lineup for the show is as follows:

Mark Henry On What Hulk Hogan Needs To Do To Redeem Himself

5

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry offered some words of advice to Hulk Hogan after the racist comments that he made a few years back.

WWE parted ways with Hogan after the scandal in 2015 and he only made his appearance after years at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view event after he was reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Mark Henry spoke to Heavy, where he revealed what suggestions he offered Hogan to redeem himself again.

“I wasn’t going to roll out the red carpet and start going to have dinner with him if he wasn’t willing to do all the s**t that I said he needed to do,” Henry told Heavy. “To start, he needs to go to some of these black universities, to these law students and let them grill him and own it and apologize. Not because you got caught, but apologize because you honestly feel remorse. He said that he found God and he touched my heart when he said that, because I know what God will do, so if God touched him, God will also say speak up, and when you reveal your past, you can go on in the future and I still don’t think he’s still completely revealed it.”

Henry said he has spoken to other wrestlers of color and the opinions are divided about the situation. Some wrestlers are of the belief that if he does certain things in the right way to apologize, he could redeem himself, whereas others don’t want to do anything with him.

Titus O’Neil also recently voiced his opinion on the situation: “I have no ill will towards Hulk Hogan whatsoever,” he said.

A few months back when Hogan was reinstated into the HOF, Henry told TMZ that he believes Hogan’s apologies are genuine.

“I do feel like he genuinely wants to clear his name. He sees people that used to respect him, they look at him different. And it hurts. And he brought that on himself. But, he’s trying his best to clear that up,” Henry said.

Jax stated that their match at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event was pretty incredible as she was in the ring with one of the greatest athletes in the world

“And she has a great work ethic, she’s incredibly strong and I feel like we have some serious unfinished business that I really want to get back to where we started. I feel like we started something really special and it can only get better so I can’t wait to see where it goes.”

Jax won the battle royal at the WWE Evolution pay-per-view event in Long Island, New York at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on the WWE Network. As a result of this win, she has earned the right to challenge for the Women’s Title at a later date.

That potential date for their battle over the WWE RAW Women’s Title could come next month at the TLC pay-per-view event on Sunday, December 16th, 2018 in San Jose, California at the SAP Center. Time will tell when WWE decides to book this match.

Chris Jericho’s Reported Payday For WWE Greatest Royal Rumble

8

The reported payday that WWE gave Chris Jericho to work his latest event under their banner was for some big bucks, according to longtime pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

He last wrestled in a WWE ring at the Greatest Royal Rumble back in April. The report stated that WWE paid Jericho $100,000 to work the show. Jericho has made a few appearances for WWE this year including a backstage segment at the RAW 25th Anniversary special in January.

It was noted that although he worked the Greatest Royal Rumble match, at one point he was advertised to work a Casket Match with The Undertaker. He would’ve been paid the same if he worked against Taker. Instead, Rusev wrestled “The Deadman.”

Jericho has also made several appearances for New Japan Pro Wrestling including a 5-star classic against Kenny Omega at the Wrestle Kingdom event from the Tokyo Dome. At Dominion, he captured the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from Tetsuya Naito.

Jericho made a surprise appearance at ALL IN by attacking Omega after his match with Pentagon Jr. to promote the Chris Jericho’s cruise. He made his first IWGP Intercontinental Championship defense will be against EVIL at the NJPW Power Struggle event on November 3.

Undisputed Era Talk Dream WrestleMania Opponents

1

Undisputed Era recently spoke to Sam Roberts at Ringside Collectibles’ Ringside Fest. The NXT stable have been on a tear since their formation and have only grown in stature since the inclusion of Roderick Strong. The four men revealed to Roberts who their ‘dream’ WrestleMania opponents would be during the interview.

Bobby Fish made an interesting pick, stating “Give me Vince McMahon. I’m going straight to the top, I don’t mess around, man.” Kyle O’Reilly was Fish’s longtime tag partner in Ring of Honor as part of reDragon, he had a more obvious choice saying “Daniel Bryan. Nothing crazy, just a straight up match.”

The de-facto leader of the group Adam Cole chose someone who he appears to be emulating more and more as he progresses in NXT, stating “Now that he is back, Shawn Michaels.” Roderick Strong also chimed in saying “He (O’Reilly) took me pick, but I guess I’d have to go with A.J. Styles.

Cole finished by saying “That is shaping up to be one heck of a WrestleMania card, if I do say so myself.” Strong also made the comment that “we can do an eight-man, Vince’s team v. us.

The Undisputed Era will be taking on the team of Ricochet, Pete Dunne and the War Raiders at War Games NXT Takeover on November 17th.

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and WWE RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey are set to take part in a champion vs. champion match at the upcoming Survivor Series pay-per-view event.

The legendary broadcaster gave his take on how the WWE and its Chairman Vince McMahon should book such a match. According to Ross, he figures that Rousey’s gonna go over and doesn’t have a problem with that. The reason for such a mindset is due to him thinking that a loss doesn’t hurt Lynch as she’s so over and she has a lot of momentum. He did bring up how it depends on how it’s executed.

“I like Rousey going for the armbar and Becky refusing to give up and passing out. Or the referee stops it. She doesn’t have to be totally unconscious, but where as she can’t defend herself or make a decision to continue or not.”

Ross continued by stating that he thinks that would be a great finish and Rousey’s armbar would be even more over. It also leads to a bigger investment, according to Ross.

The Survivor Series pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, November 18, 2018 in Los Angeles, California at the Staples Center and will air on the WWE Network.

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and WWE RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey are on a collision course. The WWE has already announced that they would take part in a champion vs. champion match at the upcoming Survivor Series pay-per-view event.

These top female stars in WWE today will get a chance to prove which is the more dominant champion of the company. With a week away from one of the big four events of the year for the WWE, the hype and promotion for this match have only gained traction. Partly due to the job that Lynch and Rousey have been doing on social media, which outside of television, is the driving point for hyping up such a battle between two champions.

Lynch and Rousey have done just that as they have been exchanging words through the power of Twitter since this champion vs. champion showdown was announced.

At one point, Lynch brought up Ronda’s husband, former UFC fighter Travis Browne, who hasn’t been used on WWE programming other than being seen at ringside for her matches inside of the squared circle. Lynch wrote, “Hey @travisbrowneMMA come get your wife, she’s drunk.” You can see their exchange here:
