Matt Riddle Responds To Seth Rollins Wanting To Wrestle Him

0

Matt Riddle has responded to what WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins recently said.

Last week, the WWE RAW star made an appearance on WWE’s Facebook page to do a live Q&A with fans where he talked about a wide range of topics including who he’d like to face in the ring. This is where he named Riddle as he stated that he thinks Riddle is super talented and has an interesting skill set.

He said that Riddle has a different style and is always intrigued by that. He added that “I’d like to see how Riddle and my style mesh together.”

https://twitter.com/jjwilliamswon/status/1054144192358895617

Riddle caught a video of what Rollins had to say and responded by stating, “You’re a stallion @WWERollins hopefully it happens sooner than later bro #bro #kingofbros #stallion #wwe #WWENXT.”

It was revealed in August at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 4 that he had signed with the WWE as he was sitting front row at the show. Riddle will also make his NXT TV debut on the WWE Network in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see how long WWE keeps Riddle down in NXT before bringing him up to the main roster whether that’s on their flagship show, Monday Night RAW, or SmackDown Live. Whichever brand he ends up on, there will be a long list of superstars who will look forward to sharing the squared circle with him.

NWA President Billy Corgan Shares His Thoughts On 70th Anniversary Show

3

NWA President Billy Corgan posted a message on Instagram detailing his thoughts about Sunday night’s NWA 70th Anniversary show from Nashville, TN. It was a strong show and the replay can be streamed now over at FITE.TV for just $24.99.

(Spacing added for clarity:)

#NWA70 thoughts in no particular order:

Magnum TA @magnum_ta was an absolute joy to engage with, and showed when speaking live of the NWA’s future why he is so highly regarded with fans and people in the business.

Jim Cornette, on commentary, reminded why there is no one better with a microphone, and I appreciate him lending his gravitas to the event. His partner, Joe Galli, has such a bright future, and I hope he will remain as our leading voice for decades. As well, I was thrilled to have Tony Schiavone (@tonyschiavone24) call the main event. As this highlights one of the great pleasures of owning the NWA, which is seeing these legends do what they do best.

On the production side, we fell short on providing a televised event up to the standard that I would consider acceptable. Which reminded me greatly as to why people questioned my pursuit of TNA (in terms of wanting to buy the company, and filed a potential lawsuit to do so). Put simply, building up a culture like Smashing Pumpkins or the NWA, takes time, trial and error, and great risk. And throwing $$$ at the problems doesn’t necessarily correct the issues, and in some cases makes it worse. So last night I was painfully reminded of how hard this journey is, and knew by the time the last bell rung we have much work to do before we’d run another such live event. Which in no way diminishes my appreciation for those who ordered or attended the event. In fact, it increases it.

Sitting ringside for the main event, I had one recurring thought, which is there are only a few people on the planet (let’s say the number is under 30) who could do what Nick and Cody (@nickaldis @americannightmarecody) did last night. Or, as I used to tell my Mother, ‘this is why they pay me the big bucks, Ma’. Skilled, talented people need the right stage and crowd to show their best, and last night was exactly that. The fans were FANTASTIC. Pushing Cody and Nick to a place I think that surprised them. I remain hopeful for a third, definitive contest.

Lastly, the vibe backstage with talent was jubilant, and hopeful. From a living legend like Dory Funk, Jr, to the kid in the dark. And that speaks volumes to me.

Alexa Bliss Opens Up On Her Match Against Trish Stratus At Evolution Being Changed

0

Alexa Bliss recently appeared on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia to talk about various topics including WWE originally announcing that she would face WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus at the upcoming Evolution pay-per-view event and how she found out about it.

The former WWE RAW Women’s Champion brought up how she always wanted a singles match against Stratus and has said that in several interviews. She found out about the match on Twitter and thought it was fake at first but then realized it was real once WWE tweeted about it. She continued by stating, “We didn’t know we would be facing each other. It was made into a tag match” She thinks it’s awesome because what’s better than being in the ring with one legend. She thinks being in the ring with Lita, Stratus and Mickie James is cool and excited for it.

Bliss was also asked why she thinks that this match was turned into a tag team match where it will now be Lita and Stratus vs. Bliss and James. “I have no idea. I know there was a lot of speculation on social media because I was injured or this,” she said.

Bliss would continue by stating that she thinks it was just the direction that WWE wanted to go in because they were told about it earlier in the day before it was made public. She added that no reason was given but that it’s exciting as she feels like it needed to be done because of Trish and Mickie’s history.

“I feel like that saw that from a creative standpoint and saw the value in that and wanted to go with it.” She added that there wasn’t anything that happened that turned it into a tag match but instead, thinks it was just what they wanted to do.

This match joins a stacked card as several big matches have already been announced. Those matches include Chris Jericho defending the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against EVIL, the Super Jr. Tag League finals, and Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre, Jr.

Power Struggle takes place on November 3rd and will air live on New Japan World. Here is the updated card:

– NEVER Openweight Champion Taichi vs. Will Ospreay

Kurt Angle Q&A: Which NXT Star He Wants To Wrestle, Crown Jewel

1

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently did a Q&A on Facebook and commented on a number of interesting topics. Right off the bat, one fan asked him about which NXT star he’d like to wrestle. The WWE Legend stated, “Velveteen [Dream] and [Aleister] Black. Both have amazing futures if they stay healthy.”

Two weeks ago on an episode of Monday Night RAW, there was a battle royal that served as a qualifying match for the World Cup tournament that takes place at WWE Crown Jewel that featured several jobbers and Baron Corbin. Angle dressed up as one of the jobbers and eliminated Corbin to win the match. As a result, Angle qualified for the tournament.

WWE presents the Crown Jewel pay-per-view event on November 2nd, 2018 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the King Saud University Stadium and will air on the WWE Network.

John Cena, Angle, Seth Rollins & Dolph Ziggler will represent RAW while Rey Mysterio, The Miz, Randy Orton & Jeff Hardy will represent SmackDown Live in the tournament. Angle was asked about his desired opponent at WWE Crown Jewel.

“I think every wrestler in the World Cup has a shot to win. I’ve already gone against [John] Cena, [Randy] Orton, [Rey] Mysterio, and [Jeff] Hardy. I have yet to face Miz, [Seth] Rollins, or [Dolph] Ziggler. Any of them are exceptional. Bring it on. I’m ready to win it.”

WWE Hall Of Famer Likely To Appear On Tonight’s RAW (Spoiler)

0

One WWE Hall of Famer is likely to make an appearance on tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW. According to PWinsider, Lita was spotted near the site of the show.

The former WWE Women’s Champion is expected to further build the hype for her tag team match at the upcoming Evolution pay-per-view event where she’ll team up with fellow Hall of Famer Trish Stratus to take on Alexa Bliss and Mickie James in a tag team match at the show.

Lita’s last match under the WWE banner inside of the squared circle came back in January at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event when she competed in the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble match.

She was originally slated to face Mickie James in a singles match at Evolution while Stratus was expected to take on the former WWE RAW Women’s Champion at the show. However, WWE later changed the matches and turned it into a tag team contest.

WWE invades Providence, RI at the Dunkin Donuts Center. As of this writing, there have been no matches or segments announced for the show, which will be the go-home show for Evolution. This will be a big show for the company as they will be announcing more matches for this all-women’s pay-per-view event and adding more names to the battle royal that will see the winner receive a championship opportunity.

WWE Reportedly Tests New Production Crew As Part Of Plans For A Tiered WWE Network

2

We noted before how WWE was planning an upgrade to WWE Network and finally introduce the tiered system which has been talked about multiple times in the past. Now it appears that the company is making some serious moves for this. According to a report from Pwinsider, the Officials tested a new production crew to record last night’s Live Event dubbed as a super show from Boston, Massachusetts.

This production crew was reportedly smaller than the ones they generally use. They didn’t utilize their usual production truck for the event either.

They will also film out next month’s Starrcade event for a similar purpose and test out this smaller production crew once again.

All this is part of the effort to produce more original content for the WWE Network and air the Live Shows under the new tiered system of the on-demand service.

For those who don’t know, it was reported recently that Vince McMahon was overseeing plans for a tiered WWE Network, now that the new TV deals are in place.

These plans might see the company finally implementing the multi-plan system allowing users to choose from a free and multiple paid versions of the Network Subscription.

The Network is expected to include more original content with the increasing tiers, including access to footage from various indie promotions as well as more original content from the company like new shows and tapings of Live Events.

The Rock On Studying Scott Hall

Saturday was a milestone birthday for the WWE Hall Of Famer and NWO member Scott Hall who turned 60 years old. He received a lot of wishes from various people related to the wrestling world on the occasion and one them was from none other than the Rock.

The Great One made a tweet where he wished the former WWE Star and stated that he often studied Hall’s matches while competing in the Memphis, Tennessee as part of the United States Wrestling Association in 1996:

https://twitter.com/SCOTTHALLNWO/status/1053945553606840325?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

The Rock and Scott Hall feuded once in 2002 when NWO was up against him and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Though they only had one televised one on one match during a SmackDown episode in March which ended in no contest.

Rey Mysterio Segment Announced For SmackDown, EC3 Wants To Shave John Cena’s Head

Rey Mysterio Segment Announced For SmackDown

We noted before how Rey Mysterio was added to a number of upcoming SmackDown shows, making it seem like the Master Of 619 will be a regular of the Blue Brand going forward.

Now a new promo from the Miz has confirmed these reports. Miz posted the following video from Instagram, revealing that Mysterio will be a special guest on Miz TV during this week’s SmackDown Live:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BpKxlWohd4w/?utm_source=ig_embed

Rey Mysterio made his return to SmackDown Live last week during the special 1000th episode of the show where he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in a one on one match.

EC3 Wants To Shave John Cena’s Head

John Cena recently made a tweet from his official account and in the post; the Cenation Leader talked about giving your absolute all so you’ll be in peace at the end, knowing that you tried your best:

NXT Star EC3, who has been calling out Cena since he joined the Development Territory, responded to this tweet from the Cenation Leader, saying that he wants to shave his head:

While not confirmed, it appears that these tweets are seeds for a future rivalry between these two stars. With Cena confirming his status for WrestleMania 35, the big question is if we can see them competing at the Grandest Stage of Them All?

‘Being The Elite’ Episode 122: Stardust Costume, Heel Turn?

0

Cody and Young Bucks have been teasing a WWE run in the past few weeks since All In, and this tease continued on the latest episode of Being The Elite.

The 122nd episode of the show featured an autograph signing session including the top stars of the show and more.

It also saw the return of Flip Gordon. Gordon, who hasn’t appeared on Being The Elite since All In, complains about not being featured like he was the one who went over his match time.

In response, the Bucks tell him that they are sick of people relying on them to get them over and they tell the ROH star to go and grab the imaginary ‘brass ring’.

After hearing this, Flip says he will grab the brass ring and then comes back to deliver a couple of superkicks to the former NJPW Tag Team Champions.

Flip Gordon appears later in the show as well. He joins SCU in insulting Philadelphia and it seems like we’ll see him as a heel going forward.

As mentioned, the episode also continues the tease of the group going to WWE as Cody Rhodes receives his Stardust costume with a note reading “I hope it still fits – H.”

You can check out the complete 122nd episode of Being The Elite below:

Nick Aldis Defeats Cody, Wins Back NWA World Heavyweight Championship

5

There is a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Nick Aldis is now a 2x NWA World Champion after having defeated Cody tonight at the NWA 70th Anniversary show in Nashville, TN.

Aldis won falls 1 and 3 in the best 2-of-3 falls match which main event’ed the show.

Nick Aldis Defeats Cody and Regains NWA World Heavyweight Championship

Cody tapped early to Aldis’ patented Cloverleaf hold, seemingly to prevent further damage from being done to his knee. With Aldis up 1-0, the match went into 60-second respite period before the next fall. Then the match spilled to the outside and into the fans. Aldis ended up going through a table after missing an elbow drop, allowing Cody to deliver a Cross Rhodes and win the second fall.

The third fall started fast with Cody hitting a super-kick and going for Cross Rhodes early. The final fall came when Cody had seemingly out-smarted Cody by loosening his boot, and allowing himself to slip out of another Cloverleaf attempt. He rolled up Aldis into a small package but Aldis reversed the weight onto Cody’s shoulders and got a 3 count.

Cody’s title reign finishes at just 48 days. Much like his father’s title reigns used to be, he lost the title not long after winning it. His father Dusty only ever held the title for a combined 107 days over his 3 title reigns.

NWA Announces Return Of Crockett Cup

0

The NWA announced the return of the Crockett Cup tonight at their 70th Anniversary Show. The legendary tag-team tournament only lasted 3 years but left an indelible mark on wrestling during the mid-1980s.

Road Warrior Animal made the announcement, saying the tournament would be held in 2019. Animal had just managed the team of Crimson and Jax Dane, the War Kings. Dane and Crimson wore Road Warriors inspired makeup and ring gear.

Crockett Cup 1986-1988

The first Crockett Cup was contested by 24 teams in 1986. The Road Warriors defeated Magnum TA and Ronnie Garvin in the finals of that tournament. Other notable names in the tournament that year included the Sheepherders (aka the Bushwackers), Rock N Roll Express, the Fantastics, and Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard.

The second tournament in 1987 was won by Nikita Koloff and Dusty Rhodes, collectively known as the Super Powers. They beat Lex Luger and Tully Blanchard in the finals. The Road Warriors had been knocked out of the tournament that year by the Midnight Express.

Finally, Lex Luger and Sting won the final Crockett Cup in 1988. They defeated Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard in the finals that year.

The legendary tag team tournament the Crockett Cup returns in 2019!

Billy Corgan took ownership of the NWA on October 1st, 2017. Since then the brand has been rebuilding through their weekly Youtube docu-series.

NWA Crowns New National Heavyweight Champion At Anniversary Show

0

Tonight the National Wrestling Alliance Crowned a new National Heavyweight Champion. The lineage of the title goes back to January 12th, 1980 when Austin Idol became the first man to wear the belt.

Willie Mack is now the 21st man to wear the gold. He defeated Sam Shaw in the tournament finals after winning a 4-way elimination match earlier on the card. The title win goes along with his HOH Twitch TV title and Lucha Trios championships that he’s won in his career as well.

The NWA National title has been held previously by legendary names such as Tully Blanchard, Austin Idol, Ron Garvin, and Ted Dibiase.

NWA Tournament To Crown A New National Heavyweight Champion

Sam Shaw won the first semi-final in the tournament. He defeated Colt Cabana, Scorpio Sky, and Sammy Guevara to advance. Mack defeated Jay Bradley, Ricky Starks, and Mike Parrow in the tournament’s second semi-final match.

Earlier in the evening, Magnum TA mentioned the new National Champion would be in line to face the NWA World Heavyweight Champion at some point.

Dave Lagana sent the following out in regards to the NWA’s future title plans:

“As we have stated since October 1 Of 2017, we have focused on as our primary championship. We are bringing back National Title at show. No current tag team champions.”

NWA 70th Anniversary Results: New Champions

0

The National Wrestling Alliance held its 70th Anniversary show on Sunday night from the Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee. Here is our live report:

Well, we’ve started things off and it sounds like there are some audio problems. We almost got some Jim Cornette commentary when he was not aware he was being broadcast.

We got backstage promos from Colt Cabana, Sammy Guevara, and Scorpio Sky.

The NWA National title tournament will consist of 2 4-way elimination matches with the winners facing each other in a single’s match later in the night.

1. NWA National Heavyweight Championship Semi-Final
Fatal 4-way
Colt Cabana vs Sammy Guevera vs Scorpio Sky vs Sam Shaw

Colt Cabana is the first eliminated after Kross rolled him up from behind and grabbed ahold of the trunks. The match had begun with a lot of comedy featuring Cobana.

Sky then eliminated Sammy Guevara with a shining wizard but then Shaw attacked Sky from behind and got the pin just moments later.

  • Colt Cabana eliminated 1st by Sam Shaw
  • Sammy Guevara eliminated 2nd by Scorpio Sky
  • Scorpio Sky eliminated by Sam Shaw

Winner: Sam Shaw

Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Blue Demon Jr, was interviewed ringside. He said no matter who wins the main event tonight, he wants to challenge them in Mexico.

2. Laredo Kid vs Barrett Brown

Brown is a 24-year-old from Texas who has been wrestling in NWA affiliates such as NWA Houston, NWA Elite. He’s wrestled for ROH previously and also was squashed by Braun Strowman on an episode of Raw once. Laredo Kid is an established luchador in Mexico, specifically with AAA. He’s defended his mask successfully 3x as well. Brown is the current NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion but it’s not clear if Corgan’s NWA will eventually recognize that title.

Cornette really did not enjoy the Canadian Destroyer piledriver spot in this match, referring to it as the stupidest move in wrestling as it hurts both guys. Brown picked up the win with a running knee to the face.

Winner: Barrett Brown

Mike Parrow looked as though he was saying something interesting backstage but the audio was not available. Jenn Decker then gave her second no-audio interview of the evening this time with Willie Mack.

Audio and James Ellsworth both showed up during the final moments of Jay Bradley’s interview.

“Absolute” Ricky Starks visited the commentary booth to give an intro to his music video/video package. His video package seemed to have a 1980’s Miami Vice theme to it. It was basically just him in different poses while a guitar solo played.

Magnum TA was interviewed ringside. He talked about all the greats who have wrestled for the NWA previously. Magnum TA also called this a “new day” for the NWA. He will present the NWA National Title to the winner of the tournament later on the card. Magnum continued to say the winner of the tournament would make a good contender for the NWA World Heavyweight title.

His step-daughter, Tessa Blanchard, recently named her codebreaker from the top rope move “Magnum” after him. I thought that was interesting enough to bring up.

3. NWA National Heavyweight Championship Semi-Final
Fatal 4-way
Willie Mack vs Jay Bradley vs Mike Parrow vs Ricky Starks

Here’s how Sean Waltman let people know he was watching the show:

https://twitter.com/TheRealXPac/status/1054159040970805248

Starks was really making it clear he’s a cocky heel we’re supposed to hate.

Big Mike Parrow came out with the Pride flag as the commentary team talked about how proud he is to represent the LGBTQ community. Parrow also competes for Major League Wrestling. Parrow was the first eliminated, however, as Ricky Starks rolled him up and grabbed the trunks. Cornette also pointed out that Parrow had one shoulder up.

Cornette really built up that Bradley’s big move is his lariat. We never saw it though, as he was the next eliminated. Willie Mack hit him with a frog splash for the pin. Starks was the next eliminated when Mack hit him with a stunner just a few spots later. This means it will be Willie Mack vs Sam Shaw later on the card.

  • Mike Parrow eliminated by Ricky Starks
  • Jay Bradley eliminated by Willie Mack
  • Ricky Starks eliminated by Willie Mack

Winner: Willie Mack

While Mack and Shaw were being interviewed ringside, Mack was blindsided by Bradley. James Ellsworth had to make the save to prevent a further beatdown. So it seems Mack will be going into the finals injured and with a disadvantage against his fresher opponent.

4. Tim Storm vs Peter Avalon

When Billy Corgan first took control of the NWA on October 1st, 2017, Tim Storm was the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. As such, he was the featured star of 10 Pounds of Gold before Nick Aldis defeated him that December. Storm has continued to be a player for the brand in the months that would follow.

Avalon attacked him before the bell and did as many dirty heel tactics as you can think of, including getting his colorful-jacketed manager involved. Storm got the win after hitting Perfect Storm.

As per the stipulation, Avalon had to kiss the foot of Tim Storm. The loudspeaker then announced if he didn’t follow through with the stipulation he’d be fined $50K. Avalon then said his manager, Nikko Marquez, could do it for him, which he then did. Storm then grabbed ahold of Avalon and forced him to kiss his foot too.

Winner: Tim Storm

5. NWA World Women’s Championship
Jazz (c) vs Penelope Ford

Jazz came out with a rather intense entrance and wearing a mask.

Ford was given plenty of opportunities to show how athletic she is but Jazz was showcased as an unbeatable wrestling machine here. Ford was portrayed as a talented wrestler who was just out-matched by Jazz’s power. She did manage to get a near-fall from a pinning combination but after missing a standing moonsault, Jazz took control of the match back for good. She hit a Michinoku Driver and seemingly got a 3-count but Hepner’s hand hit Jazz in the face during the count and things got a little messed up. Jazz then locked in an STF and Ford tapped.

The champion cut a promo after the match saying she wants a shot at the 10 Pounds of Gold, a reference to the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Cody and Nick Aldis will compete for later on the card.

Winner: Jazz (Retains Championship)

Jeff Jarrett came out carrying the NWA National Championship and introduced Magnum TA who will present the title to the winner.

NWA National Championship (Vacant)
Sam Shaw vs Willie Mack

Mack attacked Shaw during his entrance as payback for earlier. Shaw took control after Mack missed a spear in the corner and hit the ring post. Mack eventually made his comeback after a T-bone suplex. He then hit a scoop slam, leg drop, cannonball in the corner, and then got a near-fall off a standing moonsault.

Shaw then got a near-fall after a front face slam. He then went to the top rope and missed a senton. This allowed Mack to hit a Stunner for a near-fall. Shaw got the next near-fall after a super-kick. Mack hit a second stunner after Shaw missed a super-kick and this time he got the 3-count and won the title.

Winner: Willie Mack (New NWA National Champion)

Nick Aldis cut a promo in the back complaining about the officiating from All In and also about Brandi Rhodes’ involvement the last time they met.

The War Kings (Crimson and Jax Dane) w/Road Warrior Animal vs The Kingdom of Josephus

The War Kings were wearing Road Warriors inspired makeup and gear.

Jocephus originally claimed that Jax and Crimson would face his Spiritual Advisor and another woman in his group of followers. This was all a ruse, however, as Shannon Moore and Crazy Steve attacked the War Kings from behind. The War Kings eventually got the upper hand and delivered a pop-up cutter for the win.

Winners: The War Kings

Road Warrior Animal then announced the Crockett Cup Tag Team Tournament will return in 2019.

Dory Funk is then interviewed ringside.

Several former NWA World Heavyweight Champions were in the ring to introduce Aldis and Cody.

NWA World Heavyweight Championship
Best 2-out-of-3 Falls
Cody (c) vs Nick Aldis

Aldis came out with Camilla Kane (not sure if that’s how its spelled). This was his equalizer for Cody having Brandi at ringside.

The challenger took most of the offense early until Cody made a comeback with a power-slam and Disaster Kick for 2 near-falls in a row. After that Aldis hit a super-plex from the 2nd rope to take the offense briefly. Cody then locked in a figure-four to the approval of the old-school crowd in attendance. After attempting to reverse the pressure, Aldis was able to make his way to the ropes. Cody went for a second Disaster Kick but Aldis caught him in a Cloverleaf and he tapped quickly to prevent further damage to his knee.

First Fall Goes to Nick Aldis

There was a 60 second respite period. Cody was looking the fresher man and Aldis bailed to the outside to bide some additional time to recover. Cody then followed him to the outside with a suicide dive, however. The fight continued throughout the arena and into the fans. Cornette told the announce team he was going to allow this to continue without a disqualification or count-out.

The fighting in the fans made Cornette say the event reminded him of a UFC event.

As they got back to the ring, Cody set up a table. Tim Storm tried to stop him but Cody punched him. Aldis then hit a DDT for a near fall. Brandi then got in the way of Aldis putting Cody into a table but then Kaine got her out of the ring. Aldis then tried to deliver an elbow drop on top of Cody but missed and went through the table. Cody then hit Cross Rhodes to win the second fall.

The second fall goes to Cody Rhodes

The 3rd fall started quick with Cody hitting a super-kick and going for Cross Rhodes but Aldis was able to fight out of it. Cody missed a moonsault and they ended up hitting each other with simultaneous clotheslines and were down. This allowed Brandi and Kamille to start brawling on the outside. Kaine went to hit Brandi with a spear but hit Earl Hepner instead. Brian Hepner then kicked everybody out from ringside.

After the commotion, Aldis hit a Cross Rhodes on Cody for a near-fall. There were further near-falls when Cody rolled up Aldis after a Cloverleaf attempt and Aldis hit his top rope elbow drop.

Cody hit his version of Kazuchika Okada’s Rainmaker for another near-fall. Finally Cody thought he had out-smarted Aldis by loosening his boot to get out of the cloverleaf. After Cody rolled up Aldis, however, Aldis reversed it and pinned Cody to win the 3rd and deciding fall.

Winner: Nick Aldis (New Champion)

Rey Mysterio Says Leaving WWE Was For The Best

0

Rey Mysterio’s first run with WWE lasted 13 years. He left in 2014 and returned to Mexico where he competed for AAA Lucha Libre. Mysterio would also sign with Lucha Underground and compete there during seasons 2 & 3.

According to Mysterio, when he left in 2014, he needed a break.

“Through time as you age, as you get older you live and learn, and in my case being in this industry from almost 30 years, I think the best thing that could have happened to me is almost part ways for four years,” Mysterio said of his time away from the company. “Which is the time I remained away from the WWE. But at the same time, I left on good terms so that this day would eventually happen, a return, and here we are now, almost four years later. I’m more mature, I’m rested, my body and mind are fully rested, I’m healed up. I don’t think I could be living a better moment right now as we speak.”

Rey Mysterio’s 2014 WWE Departure

When he left in 2014, however, things did get contentious. Mysterio appeared on the big screen of a AAA event in Mexico while still under contract with WWE. A #FreeRey campaign was promoted by promotions hoping to bring the famous luchador back to where he started his career.

Here is a Tweet Konnan sent out in the summer of 2014 while WWE still had Mysterio under contract.

Rey made the comments in a video WWE posted today:

Harley Race Comments On Cody As NWA World Heavyweight Champion

1

The NWA 70th Anniversary is just minutes away from starting. Earlier this week, Harley Race spoke to Sports Illustrated in regards to the history of the title and Cody’s performance so far as champion.

“If Cody keeps on at it, he’ll continue going in the right direction,” Race said. The legendary wrestler would continue to say that he feels his longtime rival, and Cody’s father, Dusty Rhodes would be proud of his son.

“Each and every person picks out his own spot, and that’s what Cody has went and done. He’s doing good. I’m sure Dusty would be very proud of him.”

Harley Race and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship

Race first won the title in 1973. He would trade the title back and forth with names such as Jack Brisco, Giant Baba, and Terry Funk. He is a 7x champion, second only to Ric Flair’s 9 runs with the belt. His 1,799 total combined days spent with the title is third only to Ric Flair and the record-holder Lou Thesz, who held the title for 3,749 days. Cody has held it for 48 days thus far.

“People that were watching me noticed I was the same from word go until I had to get out,” said Race. “I just tried to keep myself in that type of position all the way through my career. Once I made up my mind that this was what I was going to do, I decided I was going to do it damn well.”

Robbie Eagles Talks Joining Bullet Club & Super Junior Tag League

0

Amidst the chaos surrounding Bullet Club these last few months, Robbie Eagles joined the faction as Taiji Ishimori’s partner in the Super Junior Tag League. The 28-year-old made a name for himself in Australia’s Melbourne City Wrestling and PWG before joining NJPW earlier this year.

He recently took part in an interview with NJPW1972.com and spoke about his early training.

“I’ve been trained in Lucha Libre, and I think with my name, you get the image of a high flier. I pride myself on my submissions though,” Eagles said. “Even early in my career people talked about me as a strategic wrestler. They called me ‘the Tactician’.”

“Choosing a body part, the head, the arm, the leg, targeting that, picking it apart. Then in the end, going completely against what my opponent is expecting to get the win. That’s my style, basically. I really felt I wanted to use that to prove myself on the world stage.”

Eagles participated in a 3-way match with Cody and Will Ospreay when NJPW visited Australia in February. Eagles talked about how important a match that was for him in his career.

“It was a big chance for me, and a big challenge. Especially the three-way, when I was in there on my own with people of the caliber of Cody and Ospreay, I really felt I had to represent Australian pro wrestling in general. I think those matches are a big reason why I’m able to compete in New Japan today.”

John Cena Says He Will Be At WrestleMania 35

0

A rather dapper and well-groomed John Cena appeared on SiriusXM today. During the course of a Q&A session with a group of children who were in attendance, Cena confirmed he will be at WrestleMania 35.

The last question in the Q&A posted was whether Cena will be at the event next year in New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.

“Where is WrestleMania 35?” Cena asked the live audience. “New York. I’m here right now, right? Would you like to ‘see me’ at WrestleMania 35? Then you know what? I was thinking about missing it but because you wanna see me there, I wouldn’t miss it for the world. I promise you I’ll be there, I promise. Okay? We’ll shake on it, we’ll make it official.”

So unless Cena plans on breaking a promise to that child, he’ll be at WrestleMania next year.

Cena was asked first what his favorite match was and he talked about facing Brock Lesnar.

“Do you know a WWE Superstar by the name of Brock Lesnar?” Cena asked in return. “Okay, if you know Brock Lesnar, he is big, he is bad, and he is mean. He was easily my toughest match. Now I’ve had some moments where I’ve done okay against him, and I’ve had some moments where I have not done okay against him. And the greatest thing about having a match with Brock Lesnar is you’re always nervous and you’re always afraid because he’s stronger than everybody, but you’re still brave enough to go in there and do it, and win or lose, you try your best.”

Cena also named the Rock as one of his favorite opponents.

Impact Wrestling Announces Return To Windsor For March Tapings

0

Impact Wrestling will be back in Scott D’Amore’s hometown in March. The promotion recently announced they will be returning to Windsor, ON, Canada for 2 nights of tapings. Impact held 2 nights of tapings in Windsor back in early June as well.

Border City Wrestling and Impact held a joint show just outside of Detroit recently dubbed Motown Showdown. That show is available on the Global Wrestling Network.

Impact Wrestling Tapings

Following the purchase of the company by Anthem Sports and Entertainment last year, the company has become more international. Television deals Anthem has in place in the UK, Mexico, and India have led to stars from those locations playing prominent roles on Impact television. It has also led to the promotion holding tapings and One Night Only PPVs across the globe.

In 2018, Impact Wrestling has traveled to Orlando, Windsor, Toronto, Mexico City, New York, and soon will head to Las Vegas. They’ve also held a Twitch special in the UK.

The next Twitch special the promotion is producing will take place on November 30th. “Gold Rush” will take place from Newark, California and will feature Eddie Edwards, Tessa Blanchard, Moose, and Eli Drake. The event will be held in conjunction with Big Time Wrestling. They will then hit Nashville for the Homecoming PPV in January with nothing else booked until the Windsor tapings in March.

The Miz Says Fans & Superstars Still Don’t Respect Him

2

Despite being with WWE for nearly 15 years now, the Miz says neither fans nor the WWE Universe respects him. Many felt Miz’s days without respect were over after he won over even his harshest critics with his work ethic the last few years.

According to Miz, however, he still doesn’t get the respect he feels he deserves. Miz made comments to this effect during a recent interview with the Mirror in the UK.

Miz Still Searching For Respect 15 Years Into WWE Career

“I will never get the respect I deserve because I was on a reality show. Whenever you’re on a reality show, you’re the scum of the earth. You have no talent, you’re a nothing and you deserve nothing,” Miz described his reputation.

Miz’s career has come first circle in the sense that he’s back on another reality TV show. In 2001, Miz dropped out of college in order to appear on MTV’s “the Real World”. Now Miz is the star of “Miz and Mrs.”

“That’s the way I’ve been brought up and how I feel people look at reality [television]. Do I look at it that way? Absolutely not; I thank my lucky stars I was on a show like The Real World on MTV and I thank them for putting me on that show because it gave me the ability to say ‘I can do anything I want with my life’.”

Speaking of Miz and Mrs, Miz explained he doesn’t consider it a reality show. Rather, Miz thinks of the show as a docu-series.

“I like to think it’s a different type of show, but now that I have that, it puts even more ammo against me. But, maybe now, people will look at me and say ‘this guy can lead a show’.”

While originally Jericho said the matches on the cruise would not air anywhere, it’s since been announced they will air on the Fite App shortly after the cruise is over.

“Ever since we announced Chris Jericho’s Rock N Wrestling Rager At Sea, everybody who couldn’t make it onboard the cruise have been asking me if we are streaming the event,” said Jericho in a press release sent in to SEScoops.com. “Now, after months of pondering, planning and probing, I can proudly say the answer is YES!! Preorder “Streaming for Vengeance” now to see the biggest main event of the year, The ALPHA CLUB vs The BULLET CLUB, and the entire Sea Of Honor Tournament on FITE TV! Stream it in, Maaan!”

Rhea Ripley Responds To Tegan Nox Injury

Rhea Ripley is off to the semi-finals of the Mae Young Classic, whether that’s how things were planned or not. In the episode which aired this week, Tegan Nox suffered a knee injury causing her match with Ripley to be stopped prematurely.

Nox detailed the injury on social media not long after the episode aired:

“Well…that happened. I may be out for a while but I cannot thank my friends and family for everything they’ve done the past few weeks and for all the kind words I’ve received, it genuinely warms my heart and gives me that extra (fire) to come back even better.”

Smackdown General Manager Paige has announced a grudge match for Smackdown this Tuesday. On the 1001st edition of Smackdown Rusev and Aiden English will face each other in single’s competition.

It will be the first time the two former tag partners have faced each other on the main roster. In 2013, they wrestled twice on NXT house shows with Rusev winning both matches.

Rusev Vs Aiden English

The team formerly known as Rusev Day teamed up originally in October of 2017. They were defeated by Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura on an edition of Smackdown. Rusev Day wrestled twice for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships, coming up short both times. They wrestled in a fatal 4-way tag match for the titles at Clash of Champions 2017. That match was won by the Usos. Their other tag-team title opportunity was also their last match together as a team. They lost to New Day on the 2018 Hell in a Cell Kickoff show.

They would disband earlier this fall, with Aiden then claiming a physical relationship had taken place between him and Lana. English has spent the last few weeks claiming a video of his and Lana’s relationship turning physical existed from a hotel room in Milwaukee. Now, Rusev and English will face each other in single’s action
