Tama Tonga Warns Finn Balor About The Elite Coming To WWE

1

In New Japan Pro Wrestling, a new Bullet Club has formed. Jay White, Gedo, and Jado recently joined the Tongans side of the faction. At the same time, members of “the Elite” are stating they will not be putting out any further Bullet Club style T-shirts past the ones they just released.

Tama Tonga seems convinced it was members of the Elite who made comments to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter running down the promotion’s new management. He also seems convinced the Elite are on their way to WWE when their contracts expire at the end of the year.

Tama Tonga Warns Finn Balor About the Elite

It was Tama Tonga’s birthday yesterday. Fellow original Bullet Club members Karl Anderson and Finn Balor each wished him a happy birthday. Tonga then commented there might be some “OG Business” heading their way.

Tonga responded to Hangman Page putting out his last Bullet Club styled shirt as well:

Is This A Work?

As with some other storylines currently playing out in wrestling, it’s not clear if this is real or not. The Elite and Bullet Club are feuding in storyline but much of what has been said online seems to go beyond what is showcased on NJPW programming.

Tonga alleges it was members of the Elite who spoke anonymously to media in regards to the company.

James Ellsworth Reacts To Being Left Off SmackDown 1000 (Video)

1

Former WWE Superstar James Ellsworth was backstage at Tuesday’s SmackDown 1000, but did not appear on the televised broadcast. He was interviewed by Mike Rome for WWE’s YouTube channel and explained why he didn’t appear on TV.

Ellsworth proclaimed, “I’m a SmackDown Legend, I should’ve been on this show.” He showed up to the arena with his gear and was ready to wrestle, just in case. Ellsworth says SmackDown General Manager Paige saw him behind the scenes and was confused why he was there. He recalls Paige questioning, “What are you doing here, James? I fired you on SmackDown episode 988.”

Ellsworth says he deserved to be part of SmackDown 1000 and it’s not fair that he was excluded. “As a matter of fact, I should be on SmackDown 1001, 1003, 1003, SmackDown 1004, SmackDown 1005, SmackDown 1006, SmackDown 1007, SmackDown 1008, 1009, 1010, 1011, 1012, 1013, 1014, 1015…”

As noted over the weekend,James Ellworth made a surprise appearance at Impact Wrestling’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view. Impact officials were hoping to lock him in to a contract, but Ellsworth politely declined the offer.

Kevin Owens Undergoes Double Knee Surgery (Photo)

Kevin Owens underwent surgery on both his knees this week knee surgery this week. WWE.com noted on Wednesday that both of his knees were operated on. The former Universal Champion tweeted a photo on Wednesday of both his knees wrapped up and the caption, “They had a 2 for 1 sale going at the surgery store!

It’s unclear exactly when Owens was injured, but he was working through knee pain prior to WWE announcing he was hurt during his match against Bobby Lashley last week on RAW. Owens was written off television in an angle that saw Lashley turn heel by attacking his knee after the match. He was subsequently pulled from Mixed Match Challenge. Bobby Roode is now teaming with Natalya in his place.

Kevin Owens Out For The Remainder of 2018

Kevin Owens’ return timeframe will depend on the progress of his physical rehabilitation. Unfortunately, he’s out for the remainder of the year. Owens should be out of action for 4-5 months, which could see him back in the ring in the heat of WrestleMania season.

A March return would allow him to get involved in match for WM35, which takes place on April 7th, 2019 from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. For now, you can be sure Kevin Owens is laser focused on getting healthy.

We wish Kevin Owens a speedy recovery!

Charlotte Flair Being Sued By Ex-Husband

11

Riki Paul Johnson has filed a lawsuit for defamation against his former wife, Charlotte Flair. The couple was married between 2010 and 2011. Johnson alleges that comments made by Flair in her book “Second Nature” about him are untrue and have had a negative impact on him and his family.

The lawsuit alleges that Flair’s book states Johnson is sterile, a claim he denies. Johnson also claims the book contains “multiple false allegations physical and/or psychological abuse.”

He is also disputing parts of the book stating he lost 2 jobs due to illicit drug use. The lawsuit is seeking $5 Million in damages. The lawsuit contends that Johnson was made to look bad in order to showcase Flair as a “victim who overcame personal adversity and domestic abuse.”

Neither Ric nor Charlotte Flair has commented on the lawsuit.

Charlotte and Ric Flair’s “Second Nature”

Ric and Charlotte Flair released “Second Nature” together last year.

“Charlotte grew up in the shadow of her famous father, “the dirtiest player in the game,“ but now she is poised to take the Flair name to new heights,” an intro to the book states. “As the inaugural WWE Women’s Champion, Charlotte has had an impressive career, and she’s just getting started. With the (dare we say it) flair of the “Nature Boy“ running through her blood, Charlotte is destined for greatness. Find out how she embraced her heritage and battled her own challenges through her rise to the top of WWE. For these two Champions, sports entertainment is simply SECOND NATURE.”

The crowd booed the second Stephanie started talking. Stephanie noted that she was the first ever GM of SmackDown and that she had a vision. She said that it is so incredible to see that vision come to life on the 1000th episode of SmackDown. Shane McMahon interrupted and danced his way down to the ring.

Stephanie got pissed off and complained about not getting any love from the crowd. Shane thanked the crowd and stated that tonight would not be possible without the fans. Stephanie accused Shane of pandering to the crowd and insulted the crowd’s intelligence. Shane interrupted and welcomed Stephanie to the “A” show.

Stephanie boasted about RAW being on longer and how they hold things to a higher standard. She blasted Truth TV and the crowd responded by chanting “Truth TV”. Vince McMahon joined the party and got a great reaction from the crowd.

The Usos Defeated Daniel Bryan & AJ Styles

The Usos SmackDown 1000

Randy Orton stated that listening to that song brought some fond memories. Orton noted that he has kept on evolving ever since he left Evolution. Orton said Triple H is running the show, Flair is living vicariously through his daughter and Batista spends more time in the makeup chair than in the ring.

Batista grabbed the microphone and admitted to being nervous because it has been a long time since he has been in a ring. Batista noted that the last place he wants to be is with a microphone in his hand. Batista said that he has come up with four things he wants to say to the crowd.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch joined Edge in the ring and got a great reaction from the crowd. Edge thanked Becky for coming on the show and stated they have a lot of similarities.

Edge claimed that he understood what Becky was doing because he wasn’t supposed to be in the main event either. He then told Becky that she didn’t make the right choice by throwing away her friendship with Charlotte. Edge brought up his past and how he left a trail of burnt bridges to try to make it to the top. Edge added that he still sees a good person inside Becky Lynch and that her choices will end with her sitting alone in the end. Edge added that in the end, Becky won’t even like herself.

Becky admitted that she doesn’t like herself, but loved herself. Lynch told Edge to stop be so condescending to the champ and get out of her ring. Rey Mysterio’s opponent at the upcoming WWE Starrcade event has been revealed.  The updated advertisements for the show have Mysterio taking on United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. The arena website is advertising the following matches:

  • WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe
  • Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair (Steel Cage Match)
  • United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev
  • Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Bar vs. The New Day
  • United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rey Mysterio
  • Special Performance: Elias with Ric Flair

Starrcade takes place Saturday, November 24th from Cincinnati, OH at the US Bank Arena.

Starrcade

Longtime fans will remember Starrcade as WCW’s signature pay-per-view event of the year. The first-ever Starrcade event went down on November 24, 1983, was held at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. The last edition of Starrcade under the WCW banner took place in December 2000.

WWE brought back the theme for a live event at the Greensboro Coliseum last November.  With it being held a few days after Survivor Series, it will likely just be a house show and not turned into a special that would air on the WWE Network.

The Bar Wins WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles

2

The Bar has captured some WWE gold. As seen on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, which was the 1000th edition, in Washington, DC at the Capital One Arena on the USA Network, Sheamus and Cesaro defeated The New Day to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.

The finish of the match saw The Big Show walk down to the ring where he would chokeslam Kofi Kingston through the announce table in order to help Sheamus and Cesaro win the titles.

The New Day beat The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan) to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles back in August on an episode of SmackDown Live in Brooklyn, New York.

It appears that WWE is setting up a program that will see six-man tag team matches between Big Show & The Bar vs. The New Day. They could book a match between the six men at their next pay-per-view event or have The Bar make their first title defense against New Day at the show. Time will tell regarding the decision made by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon on this program.

The WWE Crown Jewel pay-per-view event takes place on November 2nd, 2018 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the King Saud University Stadium and will air on the WWE Network.

Evolution Reunites On WWE SmackDown 1000

1

Evolution, which is a group that consists of Triple H, Batista, Randy Orton, and Ric Flair, reunited on WWE SmackDown 1000 that took place on Tuesday night in Washington, DC at the Capital One Arena on the USA Network.

Flair and Triple H talked about how great it was to be on the 1000th episode of the show while Orton took a shot at Batista being in a makeup chair more than he has in the ring. Batista stated that he’s going to ignore what Orton said and enjoy this moment. Batista said that he is proud to say that he helped build as well as it being held in his hometown. He thanked the fans for their support even though sometimes hated him and finally, Batista said that when that music hits, there is a different feeling in the arena as they brought a force of an army and that the group would never be done again.

Batista would later praise Orton and Flair but stated that when it comes to Triple H, he might run the business and has done it all but has never beaten him. Batista and Triple H had a stare down then hugged to close the segment.

The group was featured as the top stable on Monday Night RAW between 2003 and 2005. They started to dissolve in 2004 in storyline once all of the members lost their titles that included the Intercontinental Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and World Tag Team Championship. Triple H, Batista and Flair turned on Orton the night after SummerSlam in 2004 when Orton won the world title from Chris Benoit.

This would lead to the group kicking him out and a program between Orton and Triple H started with eventually “The Game” coming out on top. Moving along to January of 2005, Batista won the Royal Rumble and later turned on Triple H that led to Batista winning the world title from him at WrestleMania 21. The final break up came when Triple H turned on and attacked Flair later that year.

In 2014, Evolution reformed once Batista joined forces with Triple H and Orton. Due to his retirement from in-ring action, Flair wasn’t included in the revival of the faction. Their reunion on SmackDown 1000 marked the first time that they were a group together involving all four members in 14 years on WWE TV.

Batista says the last place he wants to be is with this microphone in his hand, but he’s got four things to say. First of all, it’s the 1000th episode of a brand he helped to build. Second, they’re in his hometown tonight, and he bounced in nightclubs for 13 years down the street. Third, he’s here for the fans, whether they booed him or not, because he loves them anyways. Last but not least, he’s here for the other three members of Evolution and how special they are. Batista cracks some jokes with Flair and tells him to “keep that thing in your pants.” Batista then credits Triple H with changing this business and there’s nothing Triple H hasn’t done — except beat him. Batista and Triple H come face to face with Flair between them trying to cam them down. Triple H and Batista hug before they all leave.

– We see the shadow of The Undertaker backstage with fog around him. He makes his return to SmackDown tonight.

– WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle joins the broadcast table for color commentary.

Rusev vs. The Miz: This one is a qualifying match for the World Cup. Rusev hits a spinning heel kick early on, and Miz rolls outside for a breather. Back in the ring, The Miz distracts the ref and Aiden English comes out and hits a cheap shot on Rusev. Miz rolls up Rusev with a fist full of tights for the three count after a very short match.

Winner: The Miz

He says he has seen something happening on SmackDown recently, and he felt the need to come here and try to mediate it. Edge introduces his first guest tonight: Becky Lynch. Edge talks to Becky about the similarities he sees between them, and Becky compliments Edge and says she partly modeled her career after his. The Bar backs up, and Big Show helps up Kofi. Big Show then grabs Kofi by the throat and powerbombs him through the announce table. Taker says he has three words for D-X at Crown Jewel: Rest In Peace. The Undertaker slowly makes his exit up the ramp and poses on the stage as SmackDown goes off the air.

Becky Lynch Discusses Fan Reactions To Her Feud With Charlotte Flair, Evolution Event

0

Becky Lynch spoke to the Baltimore Sun to talk about a wide range of topics including her feud with Charlotte Flair over the SmackDown Women’s Title. This feud all started once Lynch turned on Flair after their triple threat match that also involved Carmella at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event.

Lynch believes that the fans are entertained by it and that it depends on which star they are on the side off. Lynch brought up getting more negative messages from fans on social media as a result of it but that’s okay with her as that is what she was going after.

“The people that are behind me, they’ll stay behind me. The people that aren’t, well that’s fine. I’ll just go ahead and succeed in spite of them.”

Lynch will make her next title defense against Flair in a Last Woman Standing match at the Evolution pay-per-view event that takes place on Sunday, October 28, 2018 in Long Island, New York at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on the WWE Network.

When asked about the show, she stated that it’s amazing as it’s what she envisioned when she came over to WWE and wanted the women to be the coolest thing on TV.

“Through everybody’s hard work, past present and future with NXT and the Mae Young Classic, this has been deserved. It’s something that I think the fans are going to really enjoy. They’re going to really enjoy it a whole lot more if the SmackDown women’s champ is main eventing it and walks out with the title.”

The Rock Congratulates WWE On SmackDown 1000

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to his official Twitter account where he congratulated the WWE for the big milestone of 1000 episodes of SmackDown since the show started back in 1999. He wrote the following:

“Huge #SD1000 congrats to my @WWE family! Fun fact, in 1998, I said to @VinceMcMahon “I’m gonna use the word ‘Smackdown’ tonight in my promo”. He said what’s that mean? I said it means I’m gonna whup some ass. He belly laughed and said say it! The rest was history! #IfYaSmell”

Ronda Rousey Takes More Shots At Nikki Bella

3

The build for Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella at Evolution has gotten personal. Yesterday (Mon. October 15, 2018) before Monday Night RAW, the women took to social media to take shots at one another. On the show, Rousey and Bella exchanged words, with Rousey hitting Bella with a line that left a lot of fans “ooing.”

Rousey told Bella that “the only door that you have ever knocked down was the door to John Cena’s bedroom.” But that was just the beginning of the RAW Women’s Champion’s tirade. Shortly after their segment, Rousey took to Instagram to continue her assault on Bella:

“In response to your post @thenikkibella – There’s a big difference to being present and being useful. Mentioning your name with respected names doesn’t make you respectable. It makes you a name dropper.

“And name drop you do! You drop so many names it amazes me you ever could hold them all in your pea sized brain in the first place.

“You were GIVEN a title, you were GIVEN a show, you were GIVEN a producer credit (I’m sure you have no clue what a producer actually does) the only thing in your whole life you’ve worked to earn is a really Rowdy ass whoopin. And come Oct 28th at #Evolution you’ll finally deserve what you receive. #RondaVsBella #DNB #DoNothingBellas #DontbeaDNB”

Most WWE Production Staff Reportedly Reluctant To Go To Saudi Arabia

16

The controversy surrounding WWE’s trip to Saudi Arabia continues. WWE will host their “Crown Jewel” event from the country next month. The show is part of a mega-10-year deal with the country to host events there. However, with the story of a journalist being captured and killed in Saudi Arabia sweeping the nation, WWE is being urged to pull out.

As it stands, they will do no such thing. Multiple reports have surfaced indicating that several WWE stars are uncomfortable making the overseas trip. According to a report from Wrestling Observer Radio‘s Dave Meltzer, that feeling extends to the production staff as well.

Meltzer noted that most people in the company don’t want to go through with the show. However, those in management want to continue forward out of fear that reluctance to will affect the company’s stock price. One reason WWE’s stock is so high is due to the fact that they’re expecting $450 million over the next decade from Saudi Arabia.

As of this writing, WWE is planning to go forward with “Crown Jewel.”

Vince McMahon’s Thinking Behind Drew McIntyre’s Push

4

Drew McIntyre is likely being groomed for big things. “The Scottish Psychopath” has been protected pretty well on WWE TV as of late. In his matches, McIntyre doesn’t get pinned when he or his team are defeated. In his WWE World Cup qualifier match loss to Seth Rollins, McIntyre lost via count out. He then ended the show by taking out Braun Strowman with a Claymore Kick.

During a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer offered some insight into McIntyre’s current push on the main roster. Meltzer noted that McIntyre and Ziggler’s partnership was supposed to be similar to that of the storyline between Shawn Michaels and Diesel. When WWE paired Michaels and Diesel together, they wanted Diesel to be the Superstar because he fit the company’s look.

Meltzer said, hopefully, this plan works better, and it already should since McIntyre is a better wrestler than Diesel. As for whether or not he can carry a company, you won’t know until he’s in the position. If all goes according to plan, McIntyre could be in the World Title picture very soon.

Bruce Prichard On SmackDown Almost Being An All-Female Show

0

Today, SmackDown Live is essentially viewed as WWE’s “B show.” However, upon its inception, SmackDown actually rivaled Monday Night RAW for quite some time. The show has had quite the history, establishing some of WWE’s top stars of all time. This includes The Undertaker, Eddie Guerrero, John Cena, JBL, Batista, and many more.

To think, that it all very nearly didn’t happen. During a recent edition of his podcast, “Something To Wrestle,” former WWE producer Bruce Prichard discussed the first-ever episode of SmackDown. The topic is fitting considering today (Tues. October 16, 2018) WWE is airing its 100th episode special of SmackDown Live.

During the show, Prichard revealed something rather interesting. In the midst of the development of SmackDown, the idea of making it an all-female show was actually considered:

“We definitely discussed it,” said Prichard. “We looked at it, but we just didn’t have the depth to do it on a consistent basis week after week.

“We really didn’t have enough talent to do that, and in addition to that, if you were going to do that maybe not do it on the broadcast show because Vince McMahon was looking at that the more eyeballs maybe if this broadcast show takes off to possibly make Raw an all-women’s show, but we definitely discussed that many times throughout the years.”

John Cena Discusses His WWE Career Winding Down, Why He Can’t Do Full-Time Schedule

5

John Cena was making the rounds last week to promote his children’s book when he was stopped by Adam Glyn for a quick interview where he talked about his pro wrestling career and status with the WWE.

Cena was asked about slowing down his wrestling career, which he responded by talking about how this is the most healthy that he’s felt in his life as he dropped 20 lbs and started doing some stretching techniques over in China where he’s filming a movie with Jackie Chan. He added that his body actually feels great but did note as a full disclosure that he can’t do “the full demanding schedule at 41 years old” as they do it every day and that wrestling is “young man’s game.”

Despite his previous statements specifically during his feud with The Rock in 2012 and 2013 that he will never leave the WWE, he is no longer a full-time star but rather working selective matches when his movie schedule allows him. Cena had a message to those fans criticizing him for going back on what he had started years ago.

The former WWE Champion stated that he’s old and “I’m 41 and performing 310 times a year isn’t what’s best for my overall health.” He stated that he wants to be able to run the street at 80 instead of hobbling around and is currently in a stage of his life where he needs to think long-term.

Cena added that this doesn’t mean he’s leaving the WWE as he would never do that because it’s his home but that this decision is probably the best play for him.

Shane McMahon Says His Kids Complain To Vince About WWE Booking

8

Shane McMahon recently appeared on the latest Opie Radio podcast where he talked about various topics including appearance at WrestleMania 32 with his children as they all made the entrance down to the ring back in 2016 in front of thousands of fans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas before his Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker.

He also brought up how his kids will vent their booking frustrations to their grandfather, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

The son of the WWE Chairman stated that one of his kids would likely go into the wrestling business but hopefully on the business side of things after this appearance and even give him suggestions. “Like, ‘This is what we’re gonna do. I’m gonna call Pop, because’ — that’s what they call my dad — ‘I’m gonna call Pop because that was crap’ or ‘I loved this thing and this is what they should do.’ Then they’ll call pop or text him,” (H/T to Pro Wrestling Sheet).

You can listen to the full interview here as it features McMahon talking about going to the White House, Ronda Rousey joining the WWE after her career in the UFC, the story of his plane crash that he was in last year and more.

McMahon was last seen in action when he competed at the Greatest Royal Rumble back in April. He took time off as being the SmackDown Commissioner to heal from having acute diverticulitis two months prior.

Details On Why WWE Is Holding World Cup Tournament At Crown Jewel

6

WWE’s next big main roster pay-per-view event, Crown Jewel, has been a hot topic as of late. One of the topics regarding this event all comes down to the World Cup tournament and why the WWE is booking this.

Dave Meltzer noted on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio the reason for it is all due to the request made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as they have a conflict with Qatar.

The Saudis attempted to win the bid for the rights to the 2022 FIFA World Cup of soccer. However, they lost the bid and are upset over Qatar getting the tournament.

Thus, they went to WWE officials and asked to have their own World Cup of wrestling at Crown Jewel. The issues between the two countries date back to the mid-1990s but have risen in years because they are fighting for power in the region. Most people refer to the conflict as the Second Arab Cold War.

WWE presents the Crown Jewel pay-per-view event on November 2nd, 2018 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the King Saud University Stadium and will air on the WWE Network.

Will Ospreay Pulled From NJPW Road To Power Struggle Tour

0

Unfortunately, New Japan Pro Wrestling officials have decided that it’s best for Will Ospreay to being removed from the Road to Power Struggle tour due to a rib injury.

The promotion made the announcement overnight as it was noted that Ospreay will miss the tour to “focus on the NEVER Openweight Championship match” that will see him take on Taichi at Power Struggle in Osaka on November 3.

It should also be pointed out that as a result of this, Taichi won’t be competing on the tour due to Ospreay’s absence. This means that the scheduled matches between Ospreay and Taichi from October 19 to November 1 won’t be taking place.

The injury that the young rising wrestling star suffered was when he landed badly during his match against Chris Ridgeway for Revolution Pro Wrestling this past Sunday. After getting an x-ray on his ribs, it showed that he didn’t suffer any breaks, according to longtime pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer. Now, he just needs time to heel up.

Ospreay tweeted about having to miss this tour when he wrote, “Once again I’m really sorry guys. This is up there with the worst pain I’ve ever been in. Promise once I’m ready to come back, I’m picking up where I left off.”

Ospreay has also been pulled from the December 6th Fight Forever Wrestling event as the promotion wrote the following on their official Twitter account:

“Some unfortunate news. @WillOspreay has suffered an injury and will not be able to compete at Phenomena on Dec 6th. Let’s band together to send Will our best wishes, and hope he takes the time to rest up and recover. We will soon be announcing a new opponent for @CodyRhodes.”

JBL Explains Why WWE Should Got To Saudi Arabia On Fox Business

10

John Bradshaw Layfield recently appeared on Fox News to discuss the controversy surrounding WWE’s planned Crown Jewel event. The former WWE Champion didn’t mince words, stating his belief WWE needs to follow through with the planned event as scheduled.

“My personal opinion is that they should go (to Saudi Arabia),” stated JBL. “Look at what we did with Cuba. You isolate a country all you do is impoverish that country. You want to promote change? WWE went to Abu Dhabi, did the first women’s match that had ever happened in the Middle East. The crowd was chanting, in English, ‘This is Change’.”

He continued to blame the Senators for trying to improve their approval ratings.

JBL Says WWE Can Promote Change By Going To Saudi Arabia

Eric Bischoff and Alundra Blayze/Madusa chimed in to say they approve of JBL’s reasoning.

WWE’s planned Crown Jewel event is scheduled for November 3rd in Saudi Arabia. Recently several US Senators have spoken out regarding the event.

“I would hope that WWE will recognize on its own a conscience and conviction if there is proof that Saudi officials approved and ordered this kind of killing, and I would lean first on the United States government to do its duty so that it can lead private interests like WWE, and the first place to look is to the United States of America,” stated Senator Richard Blumenthal recently.
