Two Former WWE World Champions Reportedly Being Inducted Into HOF

20

So far WWE has confirmed that former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg and former WWE Tag Team Champions The Dudley Boyz will be inducted into the 2018 WWE Hall Of Fame class. PWInsider now reports that there were rumblings last night at the Royal Rumble that both former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry and former three-time WWE Women’s Champion Ivory will also be inducted this year.

Names such as Henry, Ivory, Bam Bam Bigelow and Kid Rock (celebrity wing) have been rumored for this year’s Hall Of Fame, however, WWE has only confirmed The Dudley Boyz and Goldberg thus far. While Mark Henry and Ivory have yet to be confirmed by the company an announcement should be expected soon. Perhaps as early as tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW.

The 2018 Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will take place from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 6th, two days before WrestleMania 34.

Video: Brock Lesnar Shoot Punches Braun Strowman At Royal Rumble

27

During last night’s Universal Championship match at the Royal Rumble things got real between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman. At one point in the match Strowman actually caught Lesnar with a stiff knee to the head.

Lesnar is probably the last person you want to let that happen against. “The Beast” gave “The Monster Amongst Men” a receipt in the form of a stiff right hand to Strowman’s jaw:

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/957807219084578817?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

It then sounded like Lesnar said something along the lines of “slow the fu*k down.” Lesnar would go on to pin Kane for the finish and retained his Universal Championship.

It’s expected he’ll defend his Universal crown against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans this April.

NJPW Strong Style Evolved Tickets Sell Out in Minutes

10

Tickets went on sale today for New Japan Pro Wrestling’s return to the United States. NJPW presents “Strong Style Evolved” on March 25th, from the Long Beach, Walter Pyramid.

After a major angle took place recently on the New Beginning in Sapporo shows, tickets sold out fast today with some reports from people being unable to order tickets just 10 minutes after they went on sale.

Cost of tickets ranged from $50 to $100.

NJPW Returns to Long Beach

It is believed 4500 tickets were put up for sale today, though that is not confirmed.

Hulk Hogan Deletes Tonedeaf Tweet About Women’s Royal Rumble

29

As Hulk Hogan looks to mend his damaged relationship with WWE in hopes of an eventual return to the promotion, the disgraced wrestling icon isn’t doing himself any favors with his late night tweets.

WWE made a huge deal out of the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match – and rightfully so. The Women’s Rumble closed the show on Sunday night and managed to live up to the tremendous hype its received over the past several months.

Hogan, winner of two Royal Rumbles (1990, 1991), chimed in late Sunday night with this gem of a tweet, which was later deleted:

Ronda Rousey WWE Merchandise Already Available

9

WWE Shop didn’t waste any time cashing in on Ronda Rousey’s big debut at the 2018 Royal Rumble. 2 different versions of the “Rowdy” Roddy Piper inspired T-shirt Rousey was wearing last night are already available on their website.

Ronda Rousey and Roddy Piper

Roddy Piper and Ronda Rousey share a connection with “Judo” Gene Lebell who is longtime friends with Ronda’s mother. Lebell has known Rousey ever since she was born. Lebell introduced Rousey to Piper and Piper granted permission for her to use his nickname.

They stayed in touch in the years that passed. Rousey had a chance to speak to Piper just weeks before his death. She was training for UFC 190 at the time. Here is what she told MMA Fighting, they spoke about.

“I actually got a chance to sit down and talk to him for a couple hours before this fight,” Rousey said. “I didn’t have time for anything, but I was like, ‘No, I have to go see Roddy. I have to go to Piper’s Pit.’ We talked for hours. I even told him, I promised I’m gonna do the name proud, ‘I’m gonna do you proud, I’m gonna go beat this chick.’ I told him that.”

At UFC 190 Rousey knocked Bethe Correia out in just 34 seconds.

The Dudley Boyz Announced For WWE Hall Of Fame

9

D-Von … get the Hall of Fame rings!

CBS Sports announced on Monday morning that legendary tag team The Dudley Boyz are joining Bill Goldberg as members of the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018.

During their 20 year career, Bubba Ray and D-Von amassed 18 tag team title reigns across promotions such as ECW, WWE Impact Wrestling, All Japan and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

“The legacy of the Dudley Boyz is really the last of the Mohicans,” Bubba Ray told CBS Sports. “We are the last, legitimate, great tag team that you most likely will ever see; the most old school tag team that there is. I don’t think you will ever see a tag team go on to accomplish what we have accomplished, whether that’s in the WWE or any place else. We really are the last of many, many generations of great tag teams.”

“The great thing about us is we didn’t take no for an answer,” D-Von said. “We just went out there and did it when nobody thought we could. That was the biggest thing that Bubba and I had to face in our career because, back in ECW, we weren’t really supposed to be an act to be reckoned with.”

The 2018 WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony takes place during WrestleMania 34 weekend on Friday night, April 6th from New Orleans.

Visit CBS Sports for much more on the Dudley Boyz entering the WWE Hall of Fame.

Original Rumble Plans For Bobby Roode, Why Nikki Bella Eliminated Brie At The Rumble

7

– On last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) pre-show United States Champion Bobby Roode held an Open Challenge for his title. Mojo Rawley ended up answering the challenge, but PWInsider is reporting that wasn’t WWE’s initial plans.

Apparently Dolph Ziggler was originally supposed to answer the challenge from Roode, however, WWE decided to have him enter the Royal Rumble match at number 30 instead. He’s also expected to appear at SmackDown Live tomorrow night.

– During the Women’s Royal Rumble match last night Nikki Bella eliminated her twin sister Brie Bella before going down to the final two with Asuka. Bella was eventually eliminated by Asuka and “The Empress Of Tomorrow” became the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble winner.

Per a report from Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline, Nikki eliminated Brie as a part of a storyline for Total Bellas. The Bella Twins’ brother, JJ, was also backstage at the show along with the filming crew.

Plans For WWE’s Women’s Championship Matches At WrestleMania

19

Asuka made history on Sunday night when she stood victorious following the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match. It was a bold move for WWE to close out the show with the Women’s Rumble, but the event delivered on all fronts with surprise returns, a suspenseful finish and a fearsome challenger earning the right to choose her WrestleMania opponent.

Before Asuka could decide between RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss and SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte, she was interrupted by the debut of Ronda Rousey. Some fans felt Rousey’s debut overshadowed Asuka’s big moment, but now WWE has the chance to build some suspense about who will have to face Asuka on April 8th.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the word going around is that WWE is planning the following Women’s Championship matches for WrestleMania:

  • Asuka challenging Charlotte
  • Nia Jax challenging Alexa Bliss

Asuka and Alexa Bliss squared off on Monday Night RAW just a few weeks ago, with Asuka picking up the win in a non-title match. That could convince Asuka that the RAW Women’s Championship is hers for the taking, but there’s no question that SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte is a higher-profile opponent for Asuka at WrestleMania.

The recent announcement by WWE that the Rumble winner could challenge the champion from either brand adds more credence to the idea that RAW Superstar Asuka will pick the SmackDown Women’s champion as her opponent.

Within the past hour of this writing, Charlotte tweeted a photo that indicates she’s angling for the match against RAW’s most dangerous female competitor.

Jonathan Coachman Signs With WWE, Joins RAW Commentary Team Tonight

51

WWE announced on Monday that Jonathan Coachman has signed a new deal with the company and is the newest member of Monday Night RAW’s commentary team.

Coachman will be calling the action on RAW starting tonight alongside Michael Cole and Corey Graves. WWE Hall of Famer Booker T will resume his duties as a panelist on WWE’s pay-per-view Kickoff broadcasts and will serve as a WWE ambassador moving forward.

Coachman began working with WWE back in 1999 as a broadcaster at the peak of the Attitude Era. After a successful run with WWE, he’d go on to work for ESPN for nearly a decade.

Throughout his career at ESPN, Coach was a champion of pro wrestling, hosting “Off the Top Rope” segment covering WWE news and serving as a correspondent for ESPN during big PPV weekends like SummerSlam and WrestleMania.

Coachman tweeted the following about his return to the WWE family, noting that an eventual return has been his vision for years.

Several of Coachman’s former colleagues also commented on his return:

Details On WrestleMania Plans For Ronda Rousey

31

The big news coming out of Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view was the WWE debut of  Ronda Rousey. The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion made her intentions clear almost immediately upon entering the ring, interrupting Asuka and pointing to the WrestleMania sign.

Rousey also shook hands with a reluctant Stephanie McMahon at ringside – a clear foreshadowing of what’s to come in the coming months. According to Dave Meltzer, the current plan for Rousey at WrestleMania is for her and a male partner to face Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in one of the show’s top attractions.

Rousey has been training for her in-ring debut for several months now. That said, a mixed tag-team match will be a good vehicle to feature her in a prominent way without her inexperienced being exposed.

As for who her tag team partner will be, you can be sure it will be a high profile name. The best case scenario would be The Rock, since Rousey and The Rock had a memorable in-ring confrontation with The Authority back at WrestleMania 31. However, The Rock is obviously a very, very busy man it’s unlikely he’ll be able to clear enough time from his schedule to make this dream match a reality.

Opinion: This might also be somewhat of a long-shot, but I’m going to guess Dave Batista as Ronda Rousey’s opponent. Batista has mentioned in several recent interviews that he’d like to return to WWE once again – and Triple H would be his ideal opponent during his final run with the company. Batista is a high profile Hollywood name in his own right and this would be a big opportunity if presented to him.

Discussion: Who would make the best partner for Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon?

WWE RAW Preview: Will RAW Get “Rowdy” ?

15

Tonight’s edition of WWE RAW will take place from Philadelphia, PA at the Wells Fargo Center.

Of course, the show will feature fallout from Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, which saw a lot of events directly affecting Monday Night RAW. Asuka won the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble, but it’s unclear at this time if she will select RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss or SmackDown champion Charlotte Flair as her WrestleMania opponent.

Brock Lesnar retained the Universal Championship and The Bar captured the RAW tag team titles for the 4th time. Oh yeah, Ronda Rousey is now a WWE Superstar.

The top question posted by WWE.com’s RAW preview asks, “How will Ronda Rousey’s emergence in WWE be addressed tonight?”

– Will Raw get “Rowdy”? What was the meaning behind shaking Stephanie McMahon’s hand and what are her intentions for WrestleMania?

– Can The Miz carry the Intercontinental Title all the way to WrestleMania?

– How will Seth Rollins respond to last night’s defeat?

– What havoc will Braun Strowman wreak?

Kenny Omega Makes First Statements Since New Beginning

5

On the final night of the 2-day New Beginning in Sapporo event, Cody attacked Kenny Omega to kickstart a rivalry which has been building for months.

Cody gave Omega the Cross Rhodes and was instructing Marty Scurll and Hangman Page to join in the assault when Kota Ibushi made the save. Omega had previously saved Ibushi from a 3-on-1 attack from Cody, Scurll, and Page at New Year’s Dash.

Omega recently released a statement to Tokyo Sports which has since been transcribed by Chris Charlton.

Kenny Omega Statements

“When he came to help me I had a flashback to our time as Golden Lovers. Ibushi’s always been hard to figure out, but I kind of understood something. The real Kenny is always at Kota’s side.

I said I wanted to face him (in the G1 Final) but the truth is what I wanted was to stand in the ring with him.

(I didn’t go to WWE) because I was waiting for him. If we aren’t together, there’s no point. I want us to change the world together. I took belts with Bullet Club, did a lot, but that was all the job. Golden Lovers transcends wrestling. This is real life. As long as there was a chance for this to happen, I wasn’t going to say goodbye to NJPW.

I don’t know if he wants what I want, but if he does we can do something amazing together.”

Ronda Rousey Her Debut, WrestleMania, Roddy Piper (Video)

16

Ronda Rousey was interviewed by WWE after her big debut at the conclusion of Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view from Philadelphia. The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion interrupting Asuka’s post-Rumble win, just as it appeared Asuka would declare if she’ll challenge for the RAW or SmackDown Women’s championship at WrestleMania. Rousey pointed at the WrestleMania 34 sign, took a look at both titles and tried to shake Asuka’s hand but Asuka slapped it away. Rousey also shook Stephanie McMahon’s hand at ringside to squash their storyline beef.

Rousey says she really doesn’t know how to process everything but this is not something she does every day and is something very different from fighting. Rousey says it was a real pleasure being able to soak everything up and she’s very aware of how lucky she is. Rousey says coming to WWE has been her dream since before she could talk. She talks about asking late WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper if she could use the “Rowdy” nickname when she got into MMA. Rousey says no matter what else she did in life, pro wrestling kept following her around and it was time to take a hint from the WWE Universe.

Rousey also reveals that the leather jacket she wore at the Rumble was brought to her by Piper’s son Colt, who flew the jacket in from Las Vegas to Philadelphia. Rousey says she wants people to remember Piper every time she’s out there and says she wouldn’t be here or had her run in UFC if it weren’t for Piper. Rousey says Piper taught her so much from afar and showed her that she can also touch people from afar. Rousey says she is a better person because Piper lived.

Regarding the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble match, Rousey says she was thinking about how a women’s Rumble would have been laughed at before and how she’s been laughed out of gyms in the past. Rousey says women have been brushed aside in combat sports for so long but to see everyone give a standing ovation to the women’s Rumble was big, and how fans were really invested in the match, and how it was well-accepted by the fans, not forced on them. Rousey says she didn’t even know about women’s wrestlers when she was a kid but she wants to make sure there’s not another generation that doesn’t know about women’s wrestlers when they’re little.

When asked about pointing to the WrestleMania 34 sign, Rousey says she thinks it’s a big fat hint that she’s going to be there in New Orleans at the big event.

Update On Rey Mysterio’s WWE Status Following Surprise Rumble Appearance

39

As seen Sunday night at the Royal Rumble, the big surprise of the men’s battle royal was Rey Mysterio making his first time in a WWE ring in several years. According to sources close to the situation, the deal for Mysterio to participate in the event came together over the past week. The company did a great job of keeping it a secret.

At this time, Mysterio’s appearance in the Rumble was a one-time thing, although his strong performance could motivate WWE to try signing him. It’s worth noting that Mysterio has been training his son Dominick, so the prospect of plugging back into the WWE machine could be an appealing prospect for Mysterio.

The former World Heavyweight champion (and 2006 Royal Rumble winner) had been negotiating with Impact Wrestling to appear at their most recent set of tapings, but Impact couldn’t close the deal.

Mysterio looked to be in peak physical shape on Sunday night, sporting a tanned physique that was leaner and more athletic than his last WWE run when he was carrying a lot more muscle. Mysterio has reportedly undergone stem cell treatments on his knees, which have allowed him to compete at a level not seen in a decade.
