Triple H Reveals If He Pitched To Have NXT On USA

3

WWE COO Triple H recently did an interview with Sporting News to promote this past Wednesday’s airing of NXT on the USA Network. “The Game” revealed if he’s surprised by the success NXT has seen and if he pushed for it to air on the USA Network. You can check out the highlights here:

You’ve had NXT on the WWE Network now for 3-4 years. Is there anything that’s really surprised you about its growth and what it is now?

“Look, I’m always surprised. I don’t want to say surprised because it’s pleasantly surprising. You planning for it to be great and you hope that it is and then you’re pleasantly surprised that it is. You want to put on the best product possible. I think, for me, I look at the Performance Center and the talent there and I look at the talent that we have coming in and I just try to say what would I want to see if I’m a kid and if I put myself that way. At the end of the day, I’m just a fan, right? A fan of this industry and the business of what we do and I say I really like that talent. I’d love to see him face this talent. I there would be a really cool way to do it but doing this and that’s how we put it together. What’s been nice about it is even when we’ve had setbacks, I think the thing that’s been probably, if there’s been one thing that’s surprising is the ability to continue to just let it evolve organically on its own.

“You can look at the short period of time that NXT’s existed in that four years or whatever and you can see distinct, almost little eras of the Finn Balor time and then Samoa Joe, then there was (Shinsuke) Nakamura, then Bobby Roode. Before that it was Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn and Neville. You have these sections of time that almost become these eras of NXT. Whether talent gets called up or whatever the situation is, there’s kind of that next thing that begins to pocket in there and people latch onto. There are a lot of talented performers available. Yes, they’re all learning. Yes, they’re all getting better every day but there’s a lot of talented performers available. To me, the exciting part about it is if you build it, they will come. We just put it out there in a way that people seem to appreciate and they continue to watch so it’s exciting.”

NXT being on USA Network is part of WWE week on the channel. Is this something you have previously pushed for, getting NXT on USA Network, even for a one-shot?

“No. It’s funny, I really haven’t. This has been exciting in that … break this down however you want and you can look at it and say holiday week or however you want. NBCUniversal, USA Network, the No. 1 cable channel in America, is taking an hour of primetime television and giving it to NXT which is huge from where this has come the last two, three years, where NXT has come. And they called us for it.

“It wasn’t like we went to them and pitched it. This was a “we would like to do Monday ‘RAW,’ Tuesday ‘SmackDown,’ Wednesday we’ll do ‘NXT.'” When they sent me the email, our television studio, to ask if I would be interested in doing this, I was like, is this a trick question? Yeah, I’ll put “NXT” on USA for a week and expose it to a much, much, much larger audience than what we have on the (WWE) network.

“While the WWE Network will always be NXT’s home in some way for sure, this is a great opportunity for a lot of people to see a product they’ve never really had an opportunity to see before other than clips and bits and pieces. I’m sure they’ve heard a lot about it and I’m hoping a lot of people will tune in and sample it for the first time because it’s different. It’s an alternative and it’s a different flavor and I’m hoping people will sample it.”

You’ve obviously learned a lot of different things behind the scenes over the last five, ten years. Is there anything in particular that you’re looking at now that you want to learn or get more experience at?

“This industry, what we do, is fluid. It’s constantly changing and I feel like you’re never going to stop learning. The generation that watches right now is different than a generation that watched five years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago. It’s totally different. So, you’re constantly learning, you’re constantly having to put your finger on the pulse of what works today. It’s like music in a way and it’s the closest thing that I can relate what we do.

“When you make music, when it’s really good, it stays classic forever. That song will stay classic forever. But a song that’s classic today from 30 years ago, if you wrote that song today, would die. It would be miserable. No one would like it. It’s changed. People’s tastes have changed. People’s acceptance of things has changed. Everything changes on a constant basis so you have to stay ahead of that and the people that are open to that and can continue to change and are willing to change stay consistently successful. The ones that aren’t are one-hit wonders or are successful for a period of time and then it goes away for them. It’s constantly learning and staying open to that because, I think, the moment that you start thinking I know what I’m doing, you just do this and it’s good; you’re done.”

Chris Masters Comments On Working With Shawn Michaels In WWE

1

IMPACT Wrestling star Chris Adonis (a.k.a. Chris Masters) recently did an interview on the Arm Drag Takedown podcast with Pollo Del Mar to talk about a variety of professional wrestling topics. Adonis discussed getting over “The Master Lock Challenge” in WWE, working with Shawn Michaels early in his career, and his thoughts on IMPACT Wrestling World Champion Eli Drake. You can check out the highlights here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTGH4B1EOCc

Getting over “The Master Lock Challenge” in WWE:

“They were trying to take a step back from doing all the crazy stuff and get [fans] conditioned back to just some basic stuff that’s fundamental and works, like the full nelson. It’s a simple move, but it works if it’s presented right the way.”

Having the opportunity to work with WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels early in his career:

“Everything he did, he just did really well. Not only do you have great moves you execute, you execute the right emotions at the right time. You execute all those little things, and the storytelling aspect, which goes along with the emotions at what’s happening, how you’re ‘selling’ — how you’re able to bring a crowd into it and convey pain.

“You put all that together, and you realize it doesn’t really matter how innovative a move…it just matters the performance overall.”

His thoughts on Eli Drake:

“He’s been kind of a homegrown talent in Impact and has worked really hard to get where he’s at. People are really starting to react to him, so it’s really the right time for them to do something with him.”

Dolph Ziggler On His Chances Of Winning At Clash Of Champions

3

Dolph Ziggler recently spoke to ESPN to promote this weekend’s WWE SmackDown Live-exclusive Clash Of Champions pay-per-view (PPV). Ziggler discussed the importance of WWE’s work with Tribute To The Troops and his shot at winning the Triple Threat match for the United States Championship against Baron Corbin and Bobby Roode. Here are the highlights:

The importance of WWE’s Tribute To The Troops:

“The other WWE stars, we were constantly texting each other all day long to see who’s doing what, and where we are going. Who’s going in a helicopter and who’s shooting guns. It’s just a fun day for us, just to give back to those men and women.”

“Hey, listen, it’s actually really easy for me. I don’t have a wife or kids at home. A lot of these soldiers do, and they’re away from their families so much. They talk about how WWE was their family ritual — how they’d all sit down and watch the show or go to an event. Those conversations make me realize how much they’re missing everyone back home. That means a lot to me that our product can be what reminds them of home.”

His chances of winning the United States Title this weekend:

“Bobby Roode has been around a long time, but he’s still new to the WWE. Baron Corbin is young and also somewhat new to the WWE, but he’s picking it up really fast and is really good at what he does. And I have been around seemingly for 20 years.”

“I know how good I am. The world knows how good I am. I love doing what I do, and no one else can do what I do. Hopefully I walk out of there as champion and shove it into everyone’s face one last time.”

What The Rock Told Paige At WrestleMania 30

4

As we’ve previously noted, WWE Superstar Paige was recently a guest on former ring announcer Lilian Garcia’s podcast, Chasing Glory, to talk about a number of topics. During the interview, Paige actually shared a story about meeting The Rock backstage at WrestleMania 30 and how he broke the news to her that she’d be debuting on the main roster the following night on RAW.

Paige did, in fact, debut the following night and defeated AJ Lee for the Divas Championship:

“I remember being at WrestleMania the day before I debuted. I got told by Dwayne to come in and was talking to him. And he…spilled the beans to me saying ‘You’re going to debut tomorrow’ and I was like ‘what?’”

But that wasn’t the only bombshell “The Great One” dropped on Paige:

“And he was like ‘I got some more news for you’. And I was like ‘What more could you possibly tell me?’”

The Rock then revealed his plans to her to spin her family story into a major motion picture. Now Fighting With My Family is et to release in 2018 with actors such as Vince Vaughn, Lena Headey, and Nick Frost:

“He took that idea and turned it into this global phenomenon. It blows my mind.”

Macaulay Culkin Gets Physically Involved At Bar Wrestling Event (Video)

8

Actor Macaulay Culkin got physically involved at a pro wrestling event in Los Angeles on Thursday and utilized some “Home Alone” tactics during a 6-person mixed tag team match.

It all went down at Bar Wrestling’s Christmas special show. Culkin was ringside for a match involving Joey Ryan, Candace Larae and Dick Justice vs. Peter Avalon, Ray Rosas and Swoggle. Culkin, rocking a Roddy Piper t-shirt (and bunny ears), channeled his inner Kevin McAllister and rolled marbles into the ring, sending the villains flying.

The crowd went nuts chanting “Home Alone!” as Culkin squared off against Hornswoggle and hit a top rope splash Jimmy Snukka would have been proud of.

Sasha Banks On Paige’s WWE Return

2

Sasha Banks spoke to Times Of India while visiting India for the recent WWE Live Event. Below are some highlights from her interview with them:

Her favorite match on main roster:

“I would definitely have to say it would be my Wrestlemania match against them (Charlotte and Becky Lynch). Just because of what it meant. We were introducing the Raw Women’s Championship and to find out that we wouldn’t be called Divas anymore and we’re going to be called superstars meant something so special to me. I always dreamt of changing the Divas title to the RAW women’s title because I didn’t want to have the butterfly championship anymore. To change the whole division, what it meant and represents, that is so huge and I remember crying when Triple H and Stephanie told us that we’re going to be superstars now.”

If it was a ‘deja vu’ moment for her when Paige returned to WWE:

“You could say that because there were three of them. But before that, Paige was with Charlotte and Becky and I was with Team Bad so it felt more like someone was trying to steal my spotlight again. Because Paige was gone for a whole year while I was here breaking down doors, creating history. But welcome back, Paige.”

Meeting Kavita Devi:

“I just met her today and she was so sweet and incredible. It’s so amazing to see women all over the world and making it to the WWE and especially for her it’s huge because she’s the first ever Indian woman to sign. We got a little taste of her during the Mae Young Classic but you know, it’s going to be a long journey for her. I’m sure she’s going to inspire a lot of young women and show Indian fans that if you have a dream, you can accomplish anything. So I look forward to her journey and Best of Luck to her.”

Her matches with Charlotte Flair:

“There have been so many. We’ve gone at each other since our NXT days. It’s been non-stop and we’ve had this rivalry that just no one really can touch. From the Hell in a Cell match to multiple main-events on Monday Night Raw to a Falls Count Anywhere match, it were all was so crazy. I really got my revenge on her with that Kendo Stick. It felt so good. That’s for all those chops, Charlotte. And then I went on to win my second championship. So yes, it was one of my best matches.”

Charlotte Flair On Dealing With Her Brother’s Death

3

Charlotte Flair recently had an interview with Arm Drag Takedown podcast where she talked about her brother’s death, her divorce and more. Below are some highlights from her interview:

Fearing that people would make fun of her divorce:

“It really got to me when I first started in WWE that people would make fun of me being divorced. My dad has been divorced so many times. I don’t know why it bothered me. I don’t know whether it’s because I hate failing or I was embarrassed or comparing myself to my female peers — I don’t know. But to just get that off my chest, explain what I’ve been through or what I’ve learned, [how] I’ve come out a better person. I think that was the hardest part to share.”

Dealing with the death of her brother Reid:

“I don’t think I’ll ever put losing my little brother to rest, because I have so much guilt. Just the fact he has never seen me on the main roster is so hard — like I deal with it every, single day.”

Feeling the pressure of being Ric Flair’s daughter:

“When you walk out through that curtain, and people know you’re Ric Flair’s kid, you’re not going to get away from it — either you accept it or you don’t. Fans can think what they want. But if I was just another 5’10” blonde that was very athletic that stepped through, I don’t think I would have dealt with as much criticism as I did. I think the criticism and pressure is what’s gotten me to where I am today. It elevated my game.”

The Rock’s Presidential Run Update

11

The Rock is serious about making a Presidential run. According to his recent comments, however, running for election in 2020 does not look to be a possibility anymore.

The Rock recently took part in an interview with Variety, where the topic of his potential Presidential run came up.

Rock Comments on Presidential Run on 2024

On “the people” urging him to run:

“It was never something that I trumpeted and beat my chest and ever said publicly, ‘This is what I’m going to do,’ but as that story picked up, Americans picked it up and there was this sentiment of, ‘We’re not joking, and we would really love the idea if you would run,’”

On not being able to run in 2020:

“Realistically, as we go into 2018, when you look at my slate as we’re developing and shooting into 2019 and 2020, the slate goes deep into 2021, so it feels like the realistic consideration would be 2024.”

On his motivations to run:

“In that, I knew I had to listen to the people and really, really think about it,” he continued. “That’s where I’m at right now — I’m well aware politics is not the business I’m in, so the best thing I can do is continuing to listen and learn as much as I can. I’m continuing to watch our presidency and watch how every new development is handled. I continue to watch our leaders in government, and like all Americans, I continue to be hopeful that our leaders exhibit poise, perspective and the ability to bring our country together during these tough times — which I don’t feel our presidency is currently doing — so that’s where I’m at.”

“I care deeply about our country, and I care deeply about our people – especially now,” he says. “Decency matters and being a decent human being matters, and character matters, and leadership matters.”

Bayley On Her Reaction To Not Being Called Up With Other Horsewomen

5

Former Raw Women’s Champion Bayley recently joined Edge and Christian for their E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness podcast where she discussed a variety of wrestling related topics. Below are some highlights from her interview:

Her Takeover: Brooklyn match against Sasha Banks being her ‘greatest memory’:

“That’s definitely a milestone in both of our [pro wrestling] careers. That’s one that people do ask us about it a lot and I don’t ever get tired of it. And for some reason, it still gets me emotional. Like, I can still remember every single detail about it, and every second leading up to it, and just every emotion that went into it still. That’s my greatest memory.”

On not having much time to put the match together due to Banks moving to main roster:

“I don’t think we had very much time, to be honest, because Sasha had just gotten onto the main roster, so we hadn’t really been seeing each other much and I was kind of just working at the [WWE Performance Center] and doing the NXT shows and she was, like, on tour. I believe she was on tour right before the match because the match was in August and WWE goes to Europe in November, so, like, she was gone. It was kind of hard to communicate and stuff. I think we may have talked over it once at the PC and then the day of. Like, we didn’t see each other till the day of because she also had a SummerSlam match the next night, so she was preparing for all that and she had appearances leading up to it, I had appearances leading up to it, and we didn’t really talk-talk until, like, the night of. But we both had our own ideas and we both went over stuff that one time we did get to meet.”

Her reaction to other Horsewomen getting called up to main roster prior to her:

“Well, at first, I was a little bummed out because I always thought that myself, Becky, Charlotte, and Sasha would have gone up together and kind of be, in a perfect world, we were going to be this cool faction and then takeover and whatever, change things and stuff like that, but [WWE officials] had a different plan.”

Always being seen as the weak link of the Four Horsewomen:

“I was like, ‘I’m going to prove I don’t need Sasha or Becky or Charlotte to have good matches or we don’t need them to carry the division anymore.’ Like, I wanted to prove that I can do it on my own because in my eyes, I was always kind of seen as the weaker link of the four, so I always wanted to prove to everybody, like, ‘I can do this too and I can help people, lead people, and carry the division,’ so it was a huge honor and I was so happy to be able to, like, carry the championship for that amount of time and then to pass it on to Asuka when it was time and all that. So it was a great [time]. I still think that was probably my most valuable time of my career. I just learned so much in that time.”

Luke Harper Guest Stars on “Damnation” TV Series

0

Luke Harper (Jon Huber) appeared last night on USA Network’s “Damnation”.

The role was written specifically for Harper:

Harper also appeared in 2017’s “Mohawk” as Lachlan Allsopp. Mohawk is also a period piece set back in 1812.

Luke Harper on Damnation

That Harper had a role specifically written for him by a TV Series airing on the USA Network can only be good for his standing in WWE. This is especially the case since WWE’s contract with the USA Network comes up for renewal in 2019.

Big E posted the following:

Harper promoted his guest appearance in the only way he knows how:

The Bludgeon Brothers are scheduled to face Breezeango Sunday at Clash of Champions.

Triple H Says Ronda Rousey Has Not Signed with WWE

4

Triple H was recently interviewed by CBS Sports and threw cold water on rumors Ronda Rousey’s WWE signing was imminent. He does admit the two sides are talking but indicates that media reports regarding Rousey and WWE are inaccurate.

Triple H Interview Highlights

“It’s funny because every now and then I wake up and I look at either social media or the news and I see a report and it’s like, well, that’s news to me because I’m the one who would be having that conversation,” Levesque said to CBS Sports “So it’s interesting with ‘sources say.'”

“Everybody is very busy and I know that from Ronda’s side and her team, they are looking for an opportunity,” Levesque said. “I have made it very clear that an opportunity exists and it’s just a matter of us getting together and having conversations.

“I wish I had something more to tell you than that but we are just kind of talking and feeling where it goes and she is making movies and doing other things. But it’s exciting and there are a lot of interest on both sides so let’s see where it goes.”

Bobby Lashley & EC3 Could Be WWE Bound In 2018

25

Recently, Impact Wrestling has been looking to shed themselves of high-paying contracts which were signed by the Dixie Carter regime. Neither Bobby Lashley nor Ethan Carter III are expected to re-sign with the company when their contracts are up.

According to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, at least one if not both of them are on their way to WWE.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM8SGVA3u-c

Impact Wrestling in 2018

The report does not mention which wrestler is more likely to end up in the promotion, however.

While Impact has been hesitant to re-sign anyone with a high-paying contract, they have signed other performers. Johnny Impact and Taya are both believed to have signed new deals with the promotion which will also allow them to film Lucha Underground. Brian Cage is another name which has been talked about as someone the company is looking at.

Mixed Match Challenge Reveals Potential Spoiler For Clash Of Champions

9

WWE made two big announcements during the week which have ground breaking implications across the whole of the company, with careers on the line… or possibly not…

The first announcement came on SmackDown Live:

daniel bryan shane mcmahon clash of champions

The second came in the form of WWE’s twitter account:

Notice anything?

Sami Zayn features in both.  But how can Zayn feature in the Mixed Match Challenge, which airs on Facebook in January, if he’s fighting for his career in WWE at Clash of Champions?

There are a few points to bring up here.  The first is: of course Sami Zayn won’t lose his job, well not permanently.  It is possible that he loses and is brought back in some creative plot twist that leaves the WWE Universe both aghast and annoyed at the same time.  The frustrating part of the Mixed Match Challenge tweet is that it’s an oversight which potentially destroys the kayfabe aspect of the match.

The second point to bring up is the fact that the Mixed Match Challenge tweet was released after SmackDown Live, therefore anyone working behind the advertising/social media campaign could have swapped out Sami Zayn for another competitor.  This heavily suggests that Sami Zayn won’t be losing anything in the long run.

The final point to consider is the specific wording of the Clash of Champions match.

If Zayn and Owens Lose, then They Are fired from all of wwe

This looks at the tweet from the other side of the argument.  It makes sense that they should be working as per normal up until this match.  Therefore the advertising for the new Facebook challenge shouldn’t be affected, with Zayn being removed at a later date if he lost.

Overall, there are two ways of interpreting this clash of information.  You could see it as a mistake and a spoiler for the upcoming PPV.  Or you could interpret this as showing just how much Sami Zayn could lose on Sunday if he were to fall.

Opinion:

I think this is a mistake by WWE, but they could make the most out of it by framing it as presented above.  My heart says Zayn isn’t leaving, but my head says that WWE will mess with the crossover between kayfabe and reality.

Charlotte Talks About Ronda Rousey Possibly Joining WWE

1

SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte recently spoke with Brian Fritz of Sporting News to promote Tribute To The Troops and WWE’s support of the US military.

“We forget that people are away at war,” said Charlotte. “The monotony of our lives that we get caught up in work and friends and family and I think we forget that there are people fighting for our freedom and I think we take that for granted. Having that opportunity and experience last year and to be able to have the show this year, knowing what it means to them, to have a little change-up in their day, I was extremely honored to be a part of Tribute this year. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that we didn’t do it at an arena, that we went to them.”

Charlotte also spoke about former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion possibly joining WWE. With Rousey currently training for her first professional wrestling match, Charlotte thinks Rousey would bring a lot of star power to WWE and says, “she knows where to find me.”

“What’s exciting about Ronda being a part of WWE is all the different eyes that she attracts towards the women’s division as a whole,” said Flair. “I think that’s what cool. Ronda is an attraction. Any buzz that puts the women on a different or a higher level, I’m all for.

She’s a star that would be a crossover star into our world and that’s exciting. That goes to show how far the women have come, that someone like Ronda Rousey wants to be a part of something that all the women have collectively built. My message to Ronda would be she knows where to find me. I’m on ‘SmackDown Live’ every Tuesday.”

WWE’s Tribute To The Troops special airs tonight on the USA Network as part of “WWE Week.”

TJ Perkins Weighs In On Today’s Net Neutrality Vote

37

205 Live star TJ Perkins recently engaged in discussion on the impact of Net Neutrality. As you may be aware, federal regulators in the United States are expected to vote today on the Obama-era regulations that demand internet service providers keep the speed on online traffic equal and ‘net neutral.’ Eliminating the Net Neutrality protections would allow Internet Service Providers to favor certain traffic and web services over others or block services entirely.

TJ posted his thoughts on cyber bullying and how he felt that an internet that was no longer neutral would be beneficial. He posted the below tweet and was subject to a litany of responses.

https://twitter.com/MegaTJP/status/941027311842762752

Whilst TJ may well have some valid points there was one glaring irony that he may appeared to have missed…you can see Maffew of popular web series Botchamania calling out the Cruiserweight superstar on Twitter below:

Triple H Comments on Kenny Omega vs Chris Jericho

15

Triple H recently conducted an interview with CBS Sports and revealed his opinion of Chris Jericho facing Kenny Omega in NJPW.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3Qp-Yy7WpQ

Triple H on Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho

Triple H seems happy for Jericho, Omega, and everyone involved. Here is what he told CBS Sports recently:

“I think it’s great. Good for Chris,” Levesque said. “It’s phenomenal. Good for Kenny, good for New Japan. We were aware. That was a conversation that was had.”

“It’s great, it’s good for him,” Levesque added. “Chris is one of the greatest talents in the history of the business, so I think it’s great. Good product is good product. I’m happy for them, happy for Chris and happy for everybody.”

the full interview can be read here.

Chris Jericho on Clearing the Match with Vince McMahon

Triple H also confirmed Jericho’s comments earlier this week regarding having cleared the match with Vince McMahon.

Jericho had this to say on the “Busted Open” radio program:

“I know [McMahon] wasn’t upset because I called him six weeks before and told him as soon as the deal was done,” Jericho said. “I would never surprise him like that. I didn’t ask him for his permission, but I didn’t have to. I told him what was going on — and to be quite frank for you guys, he was super excited about it.”

“If you know Vince, he loves wrestling. It’s what he knows, and it’s what he knows best. I think, obviously, his mission is to seek and destroy and kill every other company, but I think he secretly likes it when other companies do good, because it just makes it better for his company.”

John Cena Reveals Embarrassing In-Ring Incident

2

John Cena recently conducted an interview in which he detailed the most embarrassing moment of his pro-wrestling career. The incident happened early in his career and may explain why he’s gone on to wear jean shorts instead of spandex.

According to John, a case of food poisoning during his early main roster career resulted in a rather embarrassing incident.

John Cena’s Embarrassing Moment Revealed

“The most embarrassing thing is when I performed with food poisoning. I happened to not be wearing my denim shorts, this was way back in the days of yore and believe it or not, I was wearing Halloween orange spandex trunks.

“At the end of the contest, the orange had turned into an unflattering Autumn brown.

“Another wrestling nightmare would be to have your music play and you’re not ready to go out, but I would much rather arrive late but dressed for the occasion than pooping yourself and vomiting during a performance.”
