Roman Reigns Speaks Candidly About His Recent Health Scare

1

As we noted before, Roman Reigns recently appeared on WWE Network’s Straight To The Source where he talked about a variety of topics. Below are some more highlights from his interview:

His recent mumps infection:

“It was just a strange scenario, I was infected with the mumps and, like, I don’t know if we’ll be able to use this [footage]. Like, I wasn’t in any serious pain or anything. You have your obvious side effects and gland swelling and stuff like that. The only real pain I felt was like in my jaw and in my ears, but the main thing was the isolation.

It’s such a rare virus that, hell, half the nurses didn’t even know what the mumps were because it’s so old school. You get your vaccines at one [year old] and everything. I think when we were younger they didn’t do boosters at a certain age, so now they do it, and, regardless, my immune system wasn’t up to the task! I caught it and I was out for about three weeks. And the crazy part is that I was stuck in the hospital or in the hotel and to be in the hotel sucked, man.”

How his infection reminded him that life can change in an instant:

“It reminds you how fragile everything is and as simple as one little thing like a freak occurrence like that can take you out of your life. It can take you out of your normal schedule, so for me, I mean, I’ve always been very thankful for health and it’s the little things, being able to wake up in your bed, and play with your kids, and be next to your wife, being able to kiss your kids, kiss them on the cheek. Yeah, I get yelled at for kissing the kids now!”

Why he was pulled from a WWE tour last year:

“It’s funny how people come up with, like, all these conclusions. Like, nobody knew what was going on with me, I’m not like [The] Miz where I announce it on every RAW. ‘He’s sick!’, ‘something happened!’, ‘he got in trouble!’, ‘oh no, he did it again!’ And then, no, like, I went home because I was having babies! We didn’t talk about it [publicly]. That was a year ago.”

You can check out some more highlights from the same interview, including Reigns claiming that he is the best in-ring performer today here.

Cody Rhodes Reveals 2017 Has Been His First Seven Figure Year

11

Former WWE Star and current ROH World Champion Cody Rhodes was recently a guest on Busted Open Radio where he talked about a number of wrestling-related topics. Below are some highlights from his interview:

How it’s a great time to be a professional wrestler:

“it’s a wild time to be a pro wrestler and it’s a wild time to be a pro wrestling fan. I think everything [has] been elevated and the platform that Ring Of Honor has given myself, Matt and Nick [Jackson] and New Japan, they’ve let us play our music in our own way and right now people like the song. And I’m very… I don’t know. I tend to go back and forth. Sometimes, I’m a total dreamer and then other times I’m quite a realist, so I know in wrestling, one day, you’re up, and the next day, you can be bottom of the barrel down and we’ve been up, up, up, and it continues to trend upward, so I just want to keep it going.

Hot Topic, that thing that the Bucks set up with Hot Topic, so many people have benefitted from it and that’s going to be something, I hope, when you look back in the history books of wrestling, there [are] going to be these moments where things happen, where watershed incidents, where breakaway moments went down, that’s one of those. That [has] made… hell, that [has] made a lot of people rich already. So yeah, no, I’m just enjoying the ride, but I still want to make sure we’re still going up here.”

Wrestling getting hotter:

“Wrestling is absolutely hot and getting hotter. [Bully Ray was] involved, [but] me, Matt, and Nick weren’t involved in wrestling when it was at it’s hottest in the late 90s in The Attitude Era. We want our Attitude Era and I don’t know what it’s called or what it’s going to be, but it’s heading that direction, so we want to be on the right side of history. We want to be a part of it.”

2017 being his first seven-figure year:

“Not to sound tacky, but this has been the first seven-figure year I’ve ever had and it blows me away that it happened, so on that end, for my family and well-being, that part has been the best,” Rhodes said. “But also, the part I enjoy the most, the fans and the creative element of what we do, I keep saying it, but to play music how you want to play it, it [has] never been like this before for me. This is superseded…

I look at a time, my WWE Intercontinental Championship run as my favorite thing I ever did because I got to change the belt and I got to be involved in a couple of WrestleManias with that in the picture, but this time, now, has completely passed it by, blown it away. Being a world champion is all that it was cracked up to be from every world champion that there ever was that told me about it. It [has] certainly been everything that I dreamed and hoped for.”

WWE Confirms Brock Lesnar’s Return, Steve Austin Reacts To Raw Match

4

We noted before how Dunkin’ Donuts Center was advertising The WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar for the December 18th episode of Monday Night Raw.

Now WWE has confirmed that the Beast will be returning to their Programming during next week’s episode of the Red Branded Show via the following tweet:

As seen in the main event of this week’s Raw, the #1 contenders match between Kane and Braun Strowman ended in a double count out and currently; it’s not known who will challenge Lesnar for his title at Royal Rumble.

– Stone Cold Steve Austin commented on the match between Roman Reigns and Cesaro during last night’s episode of Raw via the following tweet and praised both the stars:

5 Takeaways From WWE RAW (12/11)

12

The December 11th episode of WWE RAW aired live from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, OH. Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s show:

Samoa Joe Continued His Dominance Over The Shield

samoa joe cesaro sheamus raw

Samoa Joe came down to the ring to kick off this week’s episode of RAW. Joe boasted about costing Rollins and Ambrose their shot at the RAW Tag Team Championships last week and called Roman Reigns out. Joe said that he wanted Roman to come down to the ring alone. Joe claimed that Roman Reigns would be nothing without The Shield and dared Reigns to come down to the ring and prove him wrong.

Reigns was shown backstage with Ambrose and Rollins watching Joe on a monitor. Reigns said “I got this boys” and made the Big Dog made his way to the ring. Roman and Joe traded punches in the ring. Reigns got the upper-hand and beatdown Joe in the corner. Cesaro and Sheamus jumped into the ring and Joe locked Reigns in the Coquina Clutch. Rollins and Ambrose came down to the entrance ramp and started brawling with Sheamus and Cesaro while Joe still had Reigns in the Coquina Clutch. The Bar and Samoa Joe then systematically beatdown every member of The Shield one at a time.

Seth Rollins faced Sheamus later on RAW. Rollins got in some offense early and was in control of the match as RAW went to a commercial break. Sheamus took control during the break and focused his attack on Rollins knee. Sheamus locked in the Cloverleaf in the middle of the ring. Rollins reversed it into a roll-up but Sheamus kicked out at two. Rollins connected with a Falcon Arrow but clutched his leg in pain after hitting the move. Sheamus missed with the Brogue Kick and Rollins connected with the knee to the face for the victory.

Dean Ambrose was interviewed backstage after Rollins’ victory and Renee Young asked if the attack earlier tonight changed his strategy for his match tonight against Samoa Joe.

Roman Reigns defended his Intercontinental Championship against Cesaro later in the night. Cesaro controlled the majority of the match and focused most of his attack on Reigns’ arm. Roman battled back but Cesaro halted his momentum by launching him into the ring post. Roman hit a Superman Punch off the steel steps outside the ring and then went for the cover in the ring but Cesaro kicked out at two.

Cesaro connected with a gigantic uppercut and then locked Reigns in a Crossface in the middle of the ring. Reigns broke free and planted Cesaro with a Powerbomb. Cesaro connected with a flurry of uppercuts and went for his finisher but Reigns countered it with a Back Body Drop. Reigns followed it up with a Spear for the pinfall victory in an excellent match.

Jason Jordan approached RAW GM Kurt Angle and asked why he wasn’t given a match against Samoa Joe. Jordan said that he was the only one who could defeat Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle disagreed. Angle stated that he will determine when Jordan gets his match against Samoa Joe. Jordan then came down to the entrance ramp and set up a chair to watch the match between Ambrose and Samoa Joe.

Ambrose controlled the match early as Jordan watched on with a smile on his face. Joe battled back and connected with a kick that knocked Ambrose out of the ring as RAW went to a commercial break. When RAW returned, Ambrose connected with a series of chops and then slapped Joe in the face. Ambrose hit a couple of Clotheslines in a row and then knocked him to the canvas with the Lunatic Lariat. Joe connected with a Suplex and challenged Jordan to come down to the ring.

Ambrose went for a roll-up from behind and Joe kicked out. Both Superstars then spilled out of the ring and Jordan threw Ambrose back into the ring. Joe then locked Jordan in the Coquina Clutch and Ambrose hit them both with a Suicide Dive. Back in the ring, Ambrose connected with an elbow and went for the cover but Jordan was arguing with the ref on the ring apron. Ambrose exited the ring and started shouting at Jordan. Samoa Joe flew threw the ropes and took them both out. Joe then hit Jordan with a Senton and locked Ambrose in the Coquina Clutch in the ring for the victory.

It was looking like Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns were all going to overcome the odds and win their matches after the attack from Samoa Joe and The Bar to kick off RAW. Samoa Joe defeated Ambrose and beatdown Jason Jordan in the process. It looks like we are heading towards a clash between Reigns and Joe for the Intercontinental Championship and I can’t wait to see it.

The RAW Women’s Division Stood Up To Absolution

womens division raw 12 11

Paige and Mandy Rose faced Bayley and Mickie James tonight on RAW. Sonya Deville and Sasha Banks were ringside for the match. Mickie and Bayley controlled the match early and knocked Mandy Rose and Paige out of the ring. Mickie and Bayley then leaped off the ring apron and kneed them in the face as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Paige and Mandy Rose were in control and had Bayley isolated in the corner. Bayley slammed Paige face-first on the ring apron and finally was able to tag in Mickie James. Paige tagged in Mandy Rose as well. Mickie connected with a Crossbody but Sonya Deville hopped up on the ring apron. Mickie booted Deville off the ring apron and then went for a DDT on Rose but Paige broke it up. Paige then booted Mickie in the face and Mandy Rose pinned her for the victory.

Asuka was supposed to face Alicia Fox later in the night but Absolution came down to the entrance ramp. Paige showed Alicia Fox backstage being attended to by WWE medical staff. Paige stated that Asuka needed to move out of the way or Absolution will make her move out of the way. Asuka shook her head and remained in the ring.

Paige, Deville and Rose then surrounded Asuka on the ring apron. Asuka booted Mandy Rose off the ring apron and knocked down Deville. Asuka quickly locked in an Arm Bar on Paige but the numbers game caught up to her. Paige had Asuka set up for the RamPaige when the entire RAW women’s division sprinted down to the ring. The RAW women’s locker room beatdown Absolution until they retreated up the entrance ramp.

This storyline got a lot more interesting tonight. For the past couple of weeks, Absolution has spared Asuka from their attacks, but tonight they singled her out. I am all for a match between Paige and Asuka in the near future. I also enjoyed how the RAW women’s division responded tonight. Absolution has dominated the RAW women’s division since they made their debut and tonight the other Superstars finally stood up to them.

“Woken” Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt Shared A Laugh Again

broken matt hardy raw 12 11

Bray Wyatt cut a video promo tonight on RAW and kept getting interrupted by “Woken” Matt Hardy. Wyatt called Hardy a liar and said that his words mean nothing. Matt Hardy claimed that he has crossed paths with the soul of Sister Abigial several times in the past but her soul is now stuck in the vessel called Bray Wyatt. Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt then went back and forth laughing like they did on last weeks promo.

Last week’s promo between these two was very entertaining. Tonight felt like the same exact promo, only the crowd didn’t react to it. I am fine with WWE building up “Woken” Matt Hardy to an audience that might not be familiar with the character from TNA. However, I would like to see these two cut a promo in the ring next week.

The fear I have about this character in WWE is that it will be micromanaged to death. We saw some signs of that tonight during this promo. WWE added a transition of the word “Woken” with glass shattering every single time the camera cut back to Matt Hardy. It was unnecessary and added nothing to the promo. I’m hoping that WWE just lets Matt Hardy do his thing in the weeks to come because this storyline has the potential to be great.

Cedric Alexander Took Advantage Of His Second Chance

second chance fatal 4way RAW 12 11

Last week on RAW, Nia Jax approached Enzo Amore backstage and flirted with him. Nia asked Enzo “how you doin?” and smiled at him. On this week’s episode of RAW, Enzo Amore was backstage with Drew Gulak. Drew stated that there will be a “second chance” Fatal 4-Way tonight to determine who will replace Rich Swann in the #1 contenders matchup against him next week. Enzo stated that he didn’t care if he wound up having to defend his title against Nia Jax. Gulak didn’t put it together that Enzo had Nia on his mind and thought Enzo was teaching him to be ready for any opponent that stands in his way.

Cedric Alexander, Mustafa Ali, Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari faced off later in the night. It was a very entertaining Fatal 4-Way match in which Cedric Alexander won. Drew Gulak was on commentary during the match and didn’t seem too excited about having to face Alexander next week to determine the #1 contender for thee Cruiserweight Championship. Alexander vowed to defeat Gulak and then Enzo Amore to become the new Cruiserweight Champion.

Gulak and Amore had a conversation backstage. Gulak said that he is going to defeat Alexander next week and then become the new Cruiserweight Champion. Enzo Amore then went on a rant about how Gulak isn’t on his level and insulted his powerpoint presentations. Nia Jax then appeared and flirted with Amore again. Nia compliment Gulak on his powerpoint presentations and Enzo said that he just finished telling Drew how great they were. Nia said that the two should talk when Enzo is not busy and walked away.

Cedric Alexander is a great talent and I’m happy he is now in the Cruiserweight Championship picture. He showed just how good he is in the ring during the Fatal 4-Way tonight. The storyline between Nia Jax and Enzo Amore is entertaining and it will be fun to see where this goes over the next few weeks.

Brock Lesnar Still Doesn’t Have An Opponent For Royal Rumble

kane strowman raw main event 12 11

Kane faced off against Braun Strowman tonight in RAW’s main event and the winner of the match will face Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble for the Universal Championship. Braun Strowman beatdown Kane in the corner to start off the match. Strowman connected with a big punch to Kane’s face and followed it up with a Splash in the corner. Strowman then hit a massive Dropkick for a one count.

Kane rolled out of the ring and Braun followed him and launched him into the steel steps next to the ring. Back in the ring, Kane planted Strowman with a Chokeslam for a two count. Kane planted Strowman with a second Chokeslam but once again Strowman kicked out.

Strowman blocked Kane’s third attempt at a Chokeslam and planted him with a Chokeslam of his own for a two count. Kane rolled out of the ring again and Strowman followed him out there. Kane connected with a right hand and the action spilled into the crowd. Strowman sprinted at Kane and drove him through the barricade. The referee then counted both men out but the fight continued.

Braun tossed Kane over the steel steps and then both Superstars grabbed a piece of the stairs. Kane and Strowman swung the stairs at each other and Kane fell to the floor. Strowman tried to slam Kane’s neck into the steps but Kane blocked it. Strowman grabbed a table from under the ring and slid it into the ring. Kane grabbed a chair from under the ring and hit Strowman with it.

Kane hit Strowman a few more times with the chair in the ring. Kane set up the table and then both Superstars connected with a Clothesline at the same time and fell to the canvas. Kane sat up first and then Strowman joined him. Kane couldn’t believe that Strowman sat up and retreated to the corner. Braun charged at Kane but Kane grabbed him by the neck. Strowman broke free and planted Kane with a Running Powerslam through the table as RAW went off the air.

Brock Lesnar will be on RAW next week, but as of now we still do not know who his opponent will be at Royal Rumble next month. Even though there was no winner tonight, Braun Strowman certainly made his case that he should be next in line to get a shot at the Universal Championship.

He says they started off strong, but he’s not impressed with them now. He calls Dean Ambrose a human cockroach, and mentions putting Reigns to sleep multiple times. Joe mentions that he has a match with Ambrose later tonight, but he’s here for one reason: to finish what he started with Roman Reigns, and he wants to finish it right now. Joe says he doesn’t want Reigns’ lapdogs with him, he wants just Reigns. We see Rollins and Ambrose watching on a monitor backstage. Rollins tells Ambrose to go get Roman and tell him to check it out. Joe talks trash about taking down Reigns last week, and says if not for that silly bastard Jason Jordan. Joe continues trashing the shield, and saying he punked Reigns last week. We see backstage that Reigns has joined Rollins and Ambrose by the monitor, and says he’s “got this” then starts walking to the gorilla position. The Big Dog comes out to interrupt. Reigns hits the ring and he and Joe start brawling. Reigns backs Joe into the corner and stomps on him, then Cesaro and Sheamus run in. Reigns knocks down The Bar, then Joe grabs him and locks him in the Coquina Clutch. Back in the ring, Bayley starts working over Mandy and hits some elbows. Mandy comes back with a knee to the face for a two count. He says history has always had good vs. evil, and it’s his favorite game. “Woken” appears on the screen again, and Matt appears and starts talking about the great war. He says now the battle continues in the battlefield known as WWE. Bray comes back and says he’s been waiting for Matt, then Matt says his woken wisdom and broken brilliance will illuminate the masses. Wyatt says Matt is a liar, which makes Matt laugh. Matt then talks about the soulless Sister Abigail has been around for centuries, but she got addicted to evil and possessed Bray Wyatt. Wyatt then calls Matt a jester and calls himself king. Matt says the woken warriors are preparing, and they shall DELETE. Wyatt and Matt duel evil laughs again, then we go back to the announce table, where they introduce a video package about Enzo and the cruiserweights.

– We see Enzo backstage admiring his cruiserweight title belt. He’s with Drew Gulak, who mentions that Rich Swann’s opportunity has been revoked, so when Gulak wins tonight he’ll be going on to face Enzo for the title. Enzo starts listing off possible opponents and accidentally says Nia Jax — Gulak calls him out. Gulak says he thinks Enzo is teaching him a lesson to prepare for the unexpected, and Enzo goes along with him.

– Finn Balor makes his way out to the ring next. He’s got a match against Miztourage member Curtis Axel.

Finn Balor vs. Curtis Axel: Bo Dallas comes out with Axel and they laugh at Balor on the way to the ring. Axel dramatically takes his neck brace off and then he gets a cheap shot in on Balor before the bell. Dallas rushes the ring and they both beat down Balor until the ref hauls off Dallas. The ref gives Balor some time to recover then he calls for the opening bell. Axel continues the beat down on Balor in the opening moments of the match. Seth Rollins vs. Sheamus: Rollins dumps Sheamus outside early on and hits a suicide dive through the ropes. Back in the ring, Sheamus fires up with some strikes and he drops Rollins in the corner. Sheamus stomps on Rollins in the corner, but Rollins fires back with a knee strike to the face. They brawl through the ring and Rollins stuns Sheamus before hitting a blockbuster off the middle rope. He dumps Sheamus outside and goes for a suicide dive, but Sheamus dodges it. Sheamus rolls back in the ring, and as Rollins tries to get back in, Sheamus hits a knee to the face that sends Rollins flying back outside. Back in the ring, Sheamus controls the match and starts working over Rollins’ knee. Rollins tries to fight away, but Sheamus takes him down again and locks him in a Texas Cloverleaf. Rollins fights out, but he’s selling the knee. Rollins reverses a suplex attempt into a DDT, and follows up with a kick. Rollins rolls up Sheamus for a two count, then follows up with a superkick for another two count. Rollins some suplexes for a two count, and is really selling his knee now. Sheamus comes back with some strikes and rolling Senton. Sheamus goes for the Brogue Kick, but Rollins ducks it and fires back with a superkick. Rollins hits the flying knee to the face for the three count.

Winner: Seth Rollins

– Dean Ambrose is backstage for an interview with Renee Young. She asks about his strategy for Samoa Joe tonight. Ambrose says he wants to avoid getting kicked in the face and getting put in the Coquina Clutch, but decides not to talk much about his strategy. He says he’s redy to get his hands on Joe and walks off. Ambrose vs. Joe is coming up later tonight.

Fatal 4 Way: Cedric Alexander vs. Daivari vs. Tony Nese vs. Mustafa Ali: Gulak is on commentary for this one. Cedric and Ali clear the ring to start, then start going at it with kicks and flips. The fight spills outside where Ali hits a big suicide dive on Nese. Daivari now gets back in the fight and starts working over Cedric in the ring. Cedric hits a facebuster on Daivari, then Neese runs in and decks Cedric from behind. Ali is back in now and he eats an elbow to the face from Nese. Daivari hits a spinebuster on Ali for a near-fall. Ali starts firing up but Nese runs in and decks him with a right hand. Ali elbows Nese away and then hits the inverted 450 splash, but Cedric breaks the pin. Ali and Alexander start going at it in the middle of the right now and trade punches and elbows. Cedric comes back with a crazy looking version of the Spanish Fly, then hits the Lumbar Check, but Daivari knocks Cedric outside so he can’t pin. Winner: Cedric Alexander

– After the match, Cedric does an interview where he says this is his shot and he’s going to take advantage of it. He says after he beats Gulak next week, he’ll beat Enzo to become cruiserweight champ.

– Gulak approaches Enzo backstage and tells him now that he knows he’s going to beat Cedric next week, then he’ll go on to become the next Cruiserweight Champ. Enzo takes offense to this, and says he’s not friends with Gulak – Gulak works for him. Enzo says Gulak isn’t on his level, and he starts dissing Gulak’s powerpoint presentations. He shoos off Gulak, then walks over to Nia Jax. He asks Nia how she’s doing, and she says he’s doing just fine. Nia tells Enzo hey should talk sometime when she’s not busy, and walks off. Graves says it’s like “real life lady and the tramp, except I just threw up in my mouth a bit.”

Roman Reigns vs. Cesaro: The Intercontinental Title is on the line in this one. The opening bell sounds and they go right at it. They briefly brawl out to ringside and then back in, where Cesaro gets off some cheap shots on Reigns when he re-enters the ropes. Cesaro hits some uppercuts until Reigns fires back with a lariat. Reigns keeps striking Cesaro until he falls, then he takes him into the corner for a series of clotheslines. Cesaro blocks one clothesline and slams Reigns’ arm over the turnbuckle. Cesaro charges but Reigns stuns him with a punch, but is selling the right arm. They go out to ringside where Reigns attempts the Drive By, but Cesaro kicks him out of mid-air and takes control. Cesaro whips Reigns into the fan barricade arm-first, then takes him back in the ring where he continues to work on the arm. Cesaro gets Reigns in an armbar, but Reigns fights out and hits a back body drop. Back in the ring, Reigns calls for the Superman punch, but Cesaro hits him out of mid-air. Cesaro goes for an armbar, and then a Crossface, but Reigns fights out and hits a Samoan drop. Reigns is slow to get up, and Cesaro starts laying into him with uppercuts. Cesaro throws Reigns shoulder-first into the ring post and he falls out to ringside. Reigns manages to hit Cesaro with a big boot at ringside, then he drops him with a right hand. Back in the ring, both men are getting tired and trade strikes. Cesaro goes for the Crossface again, but Reigns powers out and hits a sitdown powerbomb for a two count. Fans chant “this is awesome” as both men are down. They slowly get up and trade strikes, and when the ref gets between them Cesaro hits a cheap shot. Cesaro then argues with the ref as Reigns gets up. Cesaro starts teeing off with uppercuts until the ref warns him. Cesaro hits more uppercuts then goes for the Neutralizer, but Reigns backdrops him and hits the spear for the three count.

Winner: Roman Reigns

– Reigns raises his IC Title high in the air as his music hits and we go to replays.

– We see a backstage promo by Braun Strowman, who says he’s going to be the one who wins tonight and then goes on to beat Lesnar at the Rumble.

– We’re told Alicia Fox will be getting another shot at Asuka tonight, and that’s up next.

Asuka vs. Alicia Fox – No Contest: As Asuka is waiting in the ring for her opponent to come out, instead she is greeted by Absolution again. The three women come out to ringside and Paige is on the mic. Paige warms Asuka and says she either gets out of the way, or they’re going to move her. They surround her on the ring aprons. They eventually step in the ring and start beating down Asuka. Asuka puts up a good fight, but she’s outnumbered, and Absolution gets the better of her. The RAW Women’s locker room starts clearing out from backstage and heading to the ring to back up Asuka. Sasha, Bayley, Dana, Nia, Fox, Alexa, and Mickie all come out and start brawling with Absolution. Nia Jax steps in the ring and hits a big boot on Rose, then Paige and Sonya pull Rose out to safety at ringside. Absolution retreats up the ramp as the rest of the RAW women look on from the ring with smiles on their faces.

– Jason Jordan walks into Kurt Angle’s office and starts apologizing for his behavior last week, and for demanding a match from Kurt. He says he gets the intensity from his father. Jordan says he’ll keep his cool, but then starts complaining about not being given a match against Samoa Joe tonight. Jordan says he’s the only one who can beat Joe, but Angle points out that Jordan hasn’t beaten many of his big name opponents. Angle says Jordan will get the match when it’s the right time, then Jordan storms off.

Dean Ambrose vs. Samoa Joe: As Ambrose and Joe circle each other, Jason Jordan comes out to the stage for a closer look. Ambrose gets distracted, and Joe cheap-shots him and starts beating down The Lunatic. Ambrose takes out Joe’s knee and starts mounting a comeback. Joe shuts him down and attempts a running senton, but Ambrose rolls out of the way. They trade strikes in the ring until Ambrose hits a series of clotheslines and drops Joe. Jordan is now sitting on a chair on the stage. Joe hits a suplex then taunts Jordan, showing that he’s got suplexes too. Jordan stands up and walks down the ramp, as Ambrose takes advantage of the distraction and decks Joe from behind. Ambrose and Joe fall out to ringside, where Jordan throws Ambrose back in the ring. Joe gets up and locks Jordan in the Coquina Clutch at ringside, then Ambrose comes flying out of the ring and hits a suicide dive on both of them. Back in the ring, Jordan distracts Joe and Ambrose capitalizes with a big elbow. Ambrose covers Joe, but the ref is distracted by Jordan and doesn’t count the pin. Ambrose confronts Jordan at ringside and Jordan grabs him for a suplex. Before Jordan can do the suplex, Joe comes flying out of the ring with a suicide dive on both of them. Joe rolls Ambrose back in the ring, then hits a senton on Jordan on the floor. Joe locks Ambrose in the Coquina Cutch in the middle of the ring for the win.

Winner: Samoa Joe

– After the match, Joe’s music hits and he leaves while Jordan and Ambrose are still down.

– We go backstage where Titus O’Neal and Apollo Crews inform Dana Brooke that she is being hired by Titus Worldwide. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson walk up and call them all nerds, and then Braun Strowman comes marching through and everyone in the area scatters.

Braun Strowman vs. Kane: The winner of this match gets a shot at Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title at Royal Rumble. The opening bell sounds and Braun charges Kane back into the corner. Braun starts laying into him with strikes, then drops him with a headbutt. Braun hits a splash, then runs and hits a dropkick. They briefly brawl around ringside, before getting back in the ring where Kane seems to back down from Braun. Kane dodges a splash in the corner, and Kane follows up with a chokeslam for a two count. Kane continues to beat down Braun, and he hits a second chokeslam. Kane pins again and gets another close 2 count. Kane goes for another chokeslam, but Braun counters and delivers a chokeslam of his own. Kane also kicks out at 2. They go out to ringside where Kane starts getting the upper hand, until Braun tackles him through the fan barricade. The fan barricade crashes to the ground, and so do KAne and Braun, and the ref counts them both out.

Winner: Double count out

– Fans boo at the double count out as Braun and Kane get to their feet. Braun starts beating on Kane, then he goes to get the ring steps. Kane grabs the other ring steps, and they collide the steps together. Kane goes for more weapons, but Kane grabs him and they start going back and forth with strikes. Braun rolls Kane back in the ring, then he puts a table in the ring. Kane grabs a steel chair and nails Braun with it. Kane goes for another one, but Braun gets off a right hand to the face of Kane. Kane fires back with a successful chair shot, then hits several more repeatedly. Kane drops down out of exhaustion, and when they get back up they collide and both men go back down. Kane sits up, then Braun sits up, and they stare at each other. Kane looks scared and starts backing up into the corner. They get up and Kane goes for a chokeslam but Braun fights out. Braun scoops up Kane and hits a running powerslam through the table. Braun stands tall as his music hits. Graves wonders what this means for Lesnar’s future as Champion, and RAW goes off the air.

UPDATED: Brock Lesnar Being Teased For New Rocky Movie

13

Could Brock Lesnar be joining the cast of Creed 2, the sequel to the 2015 film Creed, a spinoff of the popular Rocky franchise?

In recent days, actor Sylvester Stallone has been teasing big news is coming regarding Creed 2, which is scheduled for a November 21, 2018 release. While plot details about the sequel are still vague, Stallone has hinted the story would revolve around the Ivan Drago character, the boxer who killed Creed’s father Apollo in Rocky IV.

Last week, Stallone posted a photo from Rocky IV (1985) of his Rocky Balboa Character in the ring with Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) with the caption,

“Get ready the next generation is about to get into the ring!”

On Monday, Stallone posted a Photoshopped image on Instagram on Monday afternoon ofhimself fighting Brock Lesnar with the caption,

“Big challenges come in all shapes and forms!”

Stallone followed up with an announcement that he’s stepping aside as the director for Creed 2 and Steven Caple, Jr. (“The Land”) will be taking over. As for the Lesnar photo he posted and who will be playing Drago’s son, we’ll have to wait and see.

UPDATE: Stallone has since updated this post to confirm that “this is just for entertainment, Drago’s son will be played by a new unknown.”

John Cena’s Movie Ferdinand Nominated For Golden Globe Award

26

WWE Superstar John Cena confirmed earlier today that his new film ‘Ferdinand’ has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the ‘Best Animated Film’ category.

The Rock’s animated Disney movie Moana was nominated last year (it lost out to Zootopia).

Cena’s ‘Ferdinand’ will be opening this weekend against the new Star Wars film ‘The Last Jedi.’ Ferdinand is about is a young bull (voiced by John Cena) who escapes from a training camp in rural Spain after his father never returns from a showdown with a matador. Adopted by a girl who lives on a farm, Ferdinand’s peaceful existence comes crashing down when the authorities return him to his former captors. With help from a wisecracking goat and three hedgehogs, the giant but gentle bovine must find a way to break free before he squares off against El Primero, the famous bullfighter who never loses.

Discussion: Do you plan on seeing Ferdinand?

I have wrestled as many men as I have women throughout my career, this is OTT breaking down barriers. This opens up not only the best women in the business, but men as well. Fans of the promotion have already been suggesting challengers for Martina’s crown, including current WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne.

WWE Superstars Support Viral Anti-Bullying Video

18

WWE, and its superstars, have a variety of initiatives and charities that they support and raise money/awareness for.  However on this occasion, individual personalities have caught on to a viral anti-bullying video that features Keaton Jones:

Jones, who is from Knoxville Tennessee, questions the reasons for bullying in a heartfelt message that was recorded by his mother.  Since then, the video has hit social media and gone viral with over 37 million views.

While it has gathered support and acknowledgement from many celebrities across the globe, including Captain America and Luke Skywalker, WWE superstars have offered their voice and support to Keaton as well:

https://twitter.com/ChrisEvans/status/939976020479938562

https://twitter.com/FightOwensFight/status/939947180860854272

https://twitter.com/NiaJaxWWE/status/939918432123760640

WWE highlighted the tweets that their superstars put out, as well as their own campaign that was started earlier in the year:

WWE encourages children to treat one another with respect through its Be a STAR campaign. In 2017, WWE started a new collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence to bring a revamped Be a STAR curriculum to all Boys & Girls Clubs across the United States. For more information, visit WWECommunity.com.

Opinion:

While their in ring personalities display anger, jealousy, arrogance, as well as many other negative attitudes, it’s important to remember that this is sports entertainment; and while most adults will be able to discern between what is real and not, a younger audience may assume that acting like Kevin Owens or Baron Corbin is OK.  Therefore it’s vital that superstars support videos and examples like Keaton Jones, promoting positive well-being by breaking kayfabe on social media to do so.

Sawyer Fulton Discusses Killian Dain Replacing Him In Sanity

2

Former NXT star and Sanity member Sawyer Fulton was recently interviewed by Solo Wrestling to talk about several professional wrestling topics. Fulton discussed Killian Dain replacing him in Sanity, shares a funny story from NXT, offers his thoughts on his WWE release, and much more. You can check out the highlights here:

You signed with WWE in 2012, only 2 years after your debut as pro wrestler. Can you tell us your experience at the Performance Center? Was it tough?

“I’ve been practicing sports all my life. College Wrestling has some very extreme intense workouts, so the workload part of the PC wasn’t that big of a deal for me. The biggest part for me was learning, you spend years and years training your body to defend without thinking and showing no emotion, and all of the sudden it’s the exact opposite, that was the most difficult part of the transition for me.”

During your training, Dusty Rhodes was in charge of the promo class. Sadly, Rhodes passed away in 2015. Did the locker room notice his absence?

“The whole world notices his absence. Working with Dusty was a much more than I realized at the time. Charisma didn’t come naturally to me, but I think he must of seen something because Dusty was always hard on me. I used to get so frustrated because I didn’t understand why he would tell me things, and he told me that I may end up hating him but he will make me better. I started hitting a good stride while tagging with Dawkins, and I remember I had a really good promo, and he just sat back and smiled, told me after it took me long enough, now keep that going, and all of the sudden everything he was saying just seemed to click a bit more.

“Head writer Joe Belcastro runs the classes now. There’s more structure and his classes are great, but no one brings that thing out of you like Dusty did.”

In 2016 you joined Sanity. Your gimmick was described as Mad Max-like. Who had the idea for the character? Was it inspired by the movie?

“We got the idea a lot earlier than 2016. The idea was originally pitched to Solomon Crowe, Marcus Louis, and myself. It was a Triple H idea based around the movie Smokin Aces. We tried a few things, and nothing really clicked, then Sammi left and Marcus was released, and I was on my own again.

“On a live event in Bartow, Wolfe and I were teamed at random to face the hype bros, and that drew a lot of attention back to the idea. I made jokes about how tag teams never really worked out for me but I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Wolfe is insanely gifted, and smart in the ring, and I know I’m a better wrestler just for working with him.”

One of the first feuds the stable had was against Big Damo/Killian Dain. However, you suffered an injury and Dain became member of Sanity. Would Dain have joined Sanity if you hadn’t been injured? Which was the original plan for the feud?

“That feud started after my injury actually, as a way to fill my spot after I tore my pec. I found out about the plans as they were happening a day after my surgery, Killian actually being the first one to tell me.”

Do you think Dain is a good substitute?

“Great guy, great wrestler. I don’t think anyone else could have filled that spot other than him. ”

After your injury, you had some matches at NXT live event, but you never made your return to TV. Why? Did WWE have plans for you, joining Sanity or against them?

“I’m pretty sure they had zero plans to use me after my injury. They didn’t want Sanity getting to big, and no matter what ideas I pitched I really didn’t get any feedback. Honestly if I wasn’t working as hard as I was I think this would have happened in April. I had already decided if there wasn’t going to be plans for me by WrestleMania I was going to ask for my release, I was just getting frustrated and stressed trying to get back to TV, so the release is mostly ripping off the band-aid.”

Where do you want to work now? Lucha Underground, Impact, ROH, NJPW, NWA? Can you tell us your plans for 2018?

“I’ve always dreamed of working in Japan. I would really love to spend some time training and learning over there. I’ve even been taking Japanese lessons in hopes I can travel sometime soon. Otherwise, I just want to wrestle as much as possible and just see where it takes me.”

On the independent circuit, you have more creative freedom. Are you going to make some changes to your gimmick? Do you have new ideas?

“I think I’m going to start with a similar character to what I was on TV, then adjust where I need to. I’m excited to just work on what I want, and try out new ideas. I’ve always enjoyed the Sanity character, so now it’s figuring out how to make it better.”

Can you tell us a funny story about your time in WWE?

“There was a live event in Venice Fl, and my stomach had not been agreeing with me for most of the day. I even joked with Norman Smiley about not taking any gut shots in the match. I was wrestling Solomon Crowe with Drake as a referee. I dropped an elbow off the second rope, covered, he kicked out and I put him into a side bearhug on the ground. Just then Drake looks at us and says ‘What the hell, someone reeks!” I blamed Crowe and he even apologized for it in the ring. When we were sitting in the locker room I was just in my undershorts, when everyone left I went to take them off and saw it was me… then I saw it was on the chair I was sitting on… I snuck the chair through a side door and threw it and my undershorts in the dumpster behind the building. I think I let Crowe believe it was him for about 6 months before I finally told him!”

UpUpDownDown Madden & FIFA Tournament Latest (Video)

0

Austin Creed has continued to develop his video-game YouTube channel with the latest matches in the 2018 FIFA and Madden tournaments.  While Luke Harper showed promise in previous rounds, Kofi Kingston cemented his place in the SmackDown Live final against AJ Styles.

Early on in the match Kofi looked to get underneath the skin of Styles, who has a history of volatile outbursts.  However AJ explained that he wasn’t going to become frustrated because he was playing “one of the greatest gamers”.

Unfortunately, AJ Styles’ modesty did not help him.  In fact, if this were last year’s tournament, AJ would have fallen victim to the mercy rule as he trailed 24-0 at one point during the match!  To the disappointment of Kofi Kingston, no controllers were thrown, which leads me to think that AJ’s skill lies in his aggressive approach; perhaps AJ should return to his brooding heel roots that saw him reach the final of last year’s tournament.

Elsewhere, the FIFA tournament continued with Grizzle Gary taking on The Dangler…?  Or in normal terms: just Sheamus vs Fandango.

With 3/4 of the semi finalists competitors from the U.K. it seemed as though the tournament would be dominated by the Brits; but Apollo Crews had something to say about that as he took on Two Feet (Finn Balor) in the first of the semi finals.

The next matches will feature Sheamus VS Noam Dar, with the winner going on to face Apollo Crews in the final.

The final of RAW’s Madden tournament is between Curtis Axel and Jason Jordan, with a prize of facing Kofi Kingston in the grand-final.

Jericho’s Post-Beatdown Message to Kenny Omega (Video), Bucks & Cody React

13

Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance at Monday’s NJPW Tag League Final event on Monday from Fukaoka, Japan. Jericho ambushed IWGP United States Champion Kenny Omega, delivering two codebreakers ahead of their January 4th showdown at Wrestle Kingdom 12. (Video)

Omega’s fellow Bullet Club members the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes reacted on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/mattjackson13/status/940209089597939714

Jericho posted the following video on Instagram following the attack. Jericho mocks Omega, telling him it was a thrill to leave him laying in a pool of his own blood.

On January 4th from the Tokyo Dome, it will be Alpha vs. Omega – Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega – and he plans to show everyone once again why he’s the Best in the World at what he does. And yes, that’s Omega’s blood on Jericho’s face.

WWE Releases 10-Hour YouTube Video Of Woken Matt Laughing

14

The taped promo shown on RAW last Monday has sparked a resurgence in both Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt.  The two WWE superstars appear perfect for each other as they bounce their insane personalities and gimmicks off each other.

What’s fantastic is the apparent freedom Matt Hardy has with his new WWE persona which he previously portrayed outside the company.  It also looks as though WWE are willing to allow “Woken” Matt Hardy to take over their YouTube channel, which is a promising sign as the previous “Broken” gimmick became so successful due to promos and videos that Hardy put together.

The latest video follows suit in terms of insanity levels as the WWE YouTube channel released a video entitled: “Woken Matt Hardy laughs for 10 hours straight”

And it is just as creepy and awkward (in a good way) as you’d expect.

Pro Tip: Some people like to play ‘nature sounds’ as they’re drifting to sleep. Waves crashing. Birds chirping. Load up this video tonight as you’re going to bed and if you get a good night’s rest.

Opinion:

WWE and Matt Hardy are doing the right thing by releasing a video of this quality.  To make the most of the opportunity in front of them, they need dive headfirst with this and allow House Hardy to do whatever they want, and this is a great step forward.

Ryback Takes A Dig At Rusev, Gets Owned

21

Ryback took a dig at Rusev on social media and it did not go well for “The Big Guy.”

As seen below, Jey Uso posted a video on Instagram of Rusev working out with The Usos.

Ryback apparently was not impressed commented on the video:

@thebigguyryback22: I would have expected more weight from “The Bulgarian Brute” ????

@thebigguyryback22: #f***RusevDay

Rusev shut him down, telling Ryback, “all natural workouts here.”

Lesson to Ryback: Don’t talk sh*t on Rusev Day.

Chris Jericho Ambushes Kenny Omega At NJPW’s Tag League Final

15

Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Tag League Final and delivered a brutal attack on IWGP US Champion Kenny Omega.

In 6-man tag team action, The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) defeated CHAOS (SHO, YOH & Rocky Romero) in 6-man tag team action. After the match, another Chris Jericho video was shown on the big screen while Omega was in the ring. The lights went out and Jericho appeared in the ring behind Omega. Jericho attacked Omega drawing blood and hitting two codebreakers. (Video)

Commentator Don Callis entered the ring to get Jericho to back off. He received a codebreaker of his own. The Young Bucks hit the ring to tend to Kenny Omega, with Callis being is carried out on a stretcher.

We have to admit, it’s pretty surreal to see Chris Jericho in a NJPW ring. Jericho and Omega will square off next month at Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4, 2018 from the Tokyo Dome.

You can watch NJPW’s Tag League Final now at NJPWWorld.com.

Paige Opens Up About Drug Use and WWE Suspensions

18

Paige recently appeared on Lillian Garcia’s podcast and opened up about her past drug use and the reason for her WWE Wellness Policy violation last year.

Paige on Her Injury Causing Depression:

“When my neck (injury) came along and I thought ‘oh my gosh I’m not going to be able to wrestle again’ and that put me in a depression. I just felt so alone and I was in so much pain from my neck.”

Paige on Addiction to Medication for Her Neck Injury

“I was just like ‘this is fine, one more (pill) will be fine. I can do this, I’m not addicted to this pill.’ Which I’m not because I completely stopped after I got humiliated online!

I made the dumb mistake. It’s not even good, I didn’t even enjoy doing it.

It’s not me, it’s far from me.”

On Her WWE Suspensions

“It was my fault, I was very dumb. Unfortunately, I took the drug test and I popped it.
Unfortunately, I tried to cover it up a little bit. I feel very stupid, I was very embarrassed it.

The first one (suspension) that wasn’t actually from drugs, that was from not doing it (taking the test) in the allotted time, which is kind of my bad but was a confusing situation. The physical drug test I passed, but the 2nd one that was just me being stupid.”

At this point, Lillian pointed out that Paige’s drug-test failures were not just for prescription medicine even though Paige indicated as such on social media afterward.

“At that time, I was just very embarrassed and I was like “ok, I have to cover this up somehow.”

On How WWE Treated Her:

“I was just so humiliated because it was everywhere. Obviously, WWE had to cover themselves.

I was never mad at WWE for doing that, it sort of gave me the kick in the butt I needed.

They were so fantastic with me, they definitely helped me, they’re still helping me now. I get to do therapy, they are like a big family. ”

Roman Reigns Reveals The Best Rivalry He Has Had

11

Roman Reigns had an interview with The Times of India while promoting the recent WWE Live Event in India. Below are some highlights from his interview:

If it was more satisfying to beat John Cena or The Undertaker:

“Beating Cena was more satisfying but it was bigger moment obviously for me beating The Undertaker in one of the biggest Wrestlemania’s of all time. It was just one of those moments in my career that’ll shine no matter what happens or who I get in the ring with. Being in the ring with The Undertaker in the main event, that speaks for itself but there is something very satisfying about beating John Cena.”

How much an influence The Rock has been on his career:

“To be honest, not that much. He’s such a busy guy that I don’t really get to see him that often. He’s always on the go so I can’t really say that he’s been able to mentor me as much people would think. But anytime I get to see him, It’s really good seeing him. I mean it’s the Rock. He greets you with a smile on his face; he’s always there to help with any advice or even if I just need someone to talk to. Anytime I get to see him, it’s a pleasure and it’s a positive thing. He’s been there and done everything, so the moment you think you’ve achieved a level of success just think about what he’s doing.”

The best rivalry he has had:

“I believe I and Braun Strowman made for a great rivalry. The chemistry and the stories that we were able to tell were captivating. What I like most about it is that since we’re both younger talents, it was really a need for me to be able to help him and throw some of the experience that I’ve gained to put him on the fast track. And I think it’s definitely helped. From being a Wyatt to being a main-eventer, he’s been a featured guy and a scary dude. If I can just continue to do that with any young talent that I can get in the ring with then my career would be a success.”

If he has to choose one, would he choose Dean Ambrose or Seth Rollins:

“Ambrose, no doubt. He didn’t swing the chair.”
