Battle Of The Monsters Announced For Next Week’s RAW

21

WWE’s European tour kicks off today and the company has announced a ‘battle of the monsters’ for next week’s edition of Monday Night RAW from Birmingham, England.

In addition to the continued build to Survivor Series, RAW will feature Braun Strowman squaring off against Kane. Their feud kicked off last month in the main event of TLC when the teammates failed to coexist.

The show takes place 13 days before Survivor Series. RAW General Manager Kurt Angle confirmed on Tuesday that Strowman will be joining Team RAW, with 3 more participants still to be announced.

Ryback On Why Vince McMahon Made Him Wear A Singlet

28

Former WWE Star Ryback recently appeared on Colt Cabana’s Art Of Wrestling podcast where he talked about his relationship with Vince McMahon among other things. Below are some of the highlights from his interview:

On Mr. McMahon making him wear a singlet because he thought Ryback looked fat:

“Its’ funny because [Vince] was the one that put me in a singlet because he thought I was fat at one point. I have never been fat at any point in my career but this was a real thing. Word had gotten back to me that I needed to lose 30 lbs, and this was right before I debuted as Ryback, he said. “I was in trunks, but they put me in a black singlet, which made me look like a black Big Show. I thought to myself that I had to do something with this, so I got a hold of RVD and asked him if It was cool that I airbrushed my singlet because I had to do something. I had done this the week before and everybody was like, oh that looks good, so I thought, OK, this is going to work.”

On how he responded when Officials tried to change his attire from singlet to trunks:

“I responded back that it wasn’t happening, and that he can talk to me if he wants to, but I’m wearing my singlet. I’m in control, I’m not wearing trunks. So, afterwards I started not to trust anything that was going on. Finally, everyone was pissed off so I went to the back and talked to Vince McMahon and said that we needed to talk, I went to his office, we talked, and had a conversation about the singlet. I felt that I won the conversation, but not really since he controls everything. Eventually I went to trunks because I knew I was leaving and it became a mindgame at that point. John Cena approached me later and said to me, ‘Congratulations. You won that conversation.’ Ultimately, did I really win? I didn’t win on TV after that.”

Explaining his entrance to Vince McMahon:

“One day Billy Kidman came up to me in ‘Gorilla,’ and he goes, ‘Vince was on the headset and he wants you to explain your entrance.’ I was just to the ring to bulls**t with some of the guys, and I asked him what he meant? Kidman responded that he doesn’t understand my entrance. Like, why you do the arm thing, and then all the arms, and then all your legs, I said to him that I am collecting all of the energy in the arena, feeding off the energy off the crowd. I am collecting the left side, collecting the right side and then I am collecting everything and then eject it into my quads because I go I know Vince will understand that. This is really the discussion and Kidman can hear me explain it over the headset while I explain all of this. I inject their energy into me and then I shut down, and then I wake up, it’s feeding time! I had to explain that to him, and then Kidman just goes, ‘That is just so f***ng weird.'”

Jerry Lawler Talks About RAW’s 25th Anniversary, The Show’s Early Days

1

On this week’s episode of ‘Dinner With The King,’ WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler and Glenn Moore spoke about some of the monsters he booked during the classic Memphis wrestling days.

The King spoke about the big 25th Anniversary of Monday Night RAW on January 22nd and if he plans to be part of the celebration.

“I’m not really sure. I would expect to be. How could they talk about 25 years of Raw without including me in some sort of way?”

“I know I’m going to be a part of the Royal Rumble [broadcast]. I don’t know about calling the match, but probably the kick-off show and all that sort of stuff.”

He also spoke about the early days of Monday Night RAW back in 1993.

“One of the things about was amazing about it, was the Manhattan Center wasn’t a very bigvenue. At the time, they didn’t know how successful this thing was going to become. It was in the very early stages. Just an infant being born at the Manhattan Center. And this place was small compared to the Barclays Center. It was a very small venue.

The main thing I remember is having to dress, get ready for the matches, and get ready for the show in the stairwells. There was just not enough dressing rooms. And guys were dressing every little nook and cranny and broom closets to get ready for the show.”

3 Promotions That Should Be Scouting Emma After Leaving WWE

44

When Emma was released from WWE earlier this week it sparked a huge response from many fans, performers and even some owners of independent promotions across the world.

Whilst Emma’s tenure in the company was lengthy, it can be argued that she was vastly under-utilised, having only secured her first singles match on a PPV event against Asuka in the opening match of TLC.

So, now that Emma has left the big company in Connecticut, where should she ply her trade next? Well, here are the 3 companies that we believe Emma would be a good fit for.

PROGRESS

ProgressWrestlingLogo

Any fans of the UK scene will of course know PROGRESS Wrestling. The upstart promotion has taken itself from humble beginnings in smaller London venues and is now on the verge of hitting Wembley Arena.

The company introduced a Women’s division earlier this year when they crowned Mae Young Classic competitor Toni Storm their first ever Women’s Champion. Now, rumors of WWE and PROGRESS having a closer relationship than appears could put a dampener on this suggestion however with the rabid and passionate crowd that PROGRESS attract an underdog/under appreciated star like Emma could strive.

Match ups against the likes of Laura Di Matteo, Jinny, Session Moth Martina, Dahlia Black and the aforementioned Toni Storm are too good an opportunity to miss.

IMPACT Wrestling

Impact Wrestling

Now, I can completely understand fans that will question Emma’s potential move to Impact. The company has not always portrayed their female performers in the best light however the Knockouts division once was and could again be the shining light of the promotion.

In terms of major visibility across the United States few can argue that IMPACT do not have the, albeit distant, number two slot behind WWE, with only Ring of Honor challenging them for this accolade.

If Emma wants to keep her profile on a mainstream US basis then she could consider taking a role in Florida, especially when you take into account potential visa issues and keeping her base in the United States.

Ring of Honor

roh

Speaking of ROH…the Women of Honor division is certainly another avenue that Emma could be considering. The division is not quite as established as IMPACT’s Knockouts however a star the calibre of Emma could make her mark fairly quickly and help build upon the success that ROH have seen thus far.

Potential bouts against the likes of Deonna Purrazzo and Brandi Rhodes could lend a mainstream appeal to the Women of Honor and again help to establish the division even further.

Discussion: Where would you like to see Emma next? Let us know in the comments…

Singh Brothers Claim WWE Is Not As Glamorous As People Think

5

We noted before how the Singh Brothers appeared on Chris Jericho’s Talk Is Jericho podcast where they talked about a lot of topics. Below are some more highlights from their appearance on it:

Sunil Singh on advice from Shawn Michaels for being lackeys of Jinder Mahal:

“Well, Coach Michaels told us, he was like, ‘if you guys have one or two bumps in a match, make sure they remember you.”

Sunil on his bump during the recent Punjabi Prison match:

“Looking back at it now, it’s crazy it got approved. It happened. I did, I did [suggest the bump for the match]. I suggested it to Randy and he was like, ‘oh, that’s a real cool idea.’ And thanks to him, a lot of things have happened for us. I remember talking to Shawn the week before and he gave really good advice. He was like, ‘as like a father-figure, I would say don’t do it, but as a guy trying to make a name for himself,’ he’s like, ‘I’ve done crazier things.'”

Sunil on eventual split with Jinder Mahal:

“Right now, we understand our spot. We’ve got to bump well. We’ve got to sell well. obviously, we’ve got to realize that the lifespan of something like this is not forever. We were brought up [to the main roster] for a specific reason, to help Jinder. And eventually, it’s going to be ‘you guys have to part with him.’ It’s going to happen, so for us, we know we have that Bollywood thing in the back pocket. It’s kind of like it could be brand spanking new. It [has] never been done on cable television.”

Sunil on WWE not being as glamorous as people think:

“The one thing I’ve realized being in the WWE, it’s not as glamorous as people think it is. You’re literally looking at the world from a bus. it [has] been cool living your dream and traveling the world. And then, you realize a lot of people don’t get to do that.”

Rusev Knocks AJ Styles (Video), Bobby Roode On Making Team SmackDown Glorious, More

4

– Below is video of Rusev talking to the WWE reporter backstage at last night’s SmackDown after his win over Big E. As noted, Rusev will face AJ Styles next week in England to determine who gets the final spot on the men’s Team SmackDown for the 5-on-5 Traditional Elimination Match at Survivor Series.

Rusev doesn’t think it’s fair that he’s had to go through two matches to qualify but he’s The Super Athlete and he will keep jumping over or swimming trhough these hurdles that SmackDown Commissioner and Team Captain Shane McMahon keeps throwing at him. Rusev says he’s not happy about it, especially after he led Team SmackDown in the “Under Siege” attack last week. Rusev says he’s passionate about it and he’s sure of his abilities when it comes to getting the win over AJ next week. Rusev says as phenomenal as Styles is, AJ is still the size of his shoe.

He joins Team Captain Shane McMahon, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura, with the final spot going to Rusev or Styles next week as noted above. Roode tweeted the following after the show on Team SmackDown becoming glorious:

Nakamura Mocks Kurt Angle (Video), Sin Cara On His Mask, NXT Preview

1

– As noted, last night’s WWE SmackDown saw Shinsuke Nakamura defeat Kevin Owens in the main event to earn a spot on the men’s Team SmackDown at Survivor Series for the 5-on-5 Traditional Elimination Match. In the video below, Nakamura says it’s such an honor to be on team blue and last week they hit RAW with a surprise but at Survivor Series, it won’t be a surprise when they beat them. Nakamura then mocks RAW General Manager and Team Captain Kurt Angle by using his “it’s true, it’s damn true!” line.

– As noted, the feud between Sin Cara and WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin continued on last night’s SmackDown as Cara pummeled Corbin until he was disqualified in their third straight non-title match. Alexa Bliss Reveals Her Dream Opponent

0

RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss attended last weekend’s Ringside Fest in New York City and took part in an interview discussing her goals in WWE and her dream opponent. Here are some highlights of what she said about:

Her goals in WWE:

“I want to be in the main event at Wrestlemania. I think it’s something that, even if it’s not me, women in general… it’s our next step in the WWE Women’s Revolution is to have our women main event Wrestlemania, and I don’t think it’s that far off.”

How it feels to have her own action figure and young fans looking up to her:

“It’s amazing. When I was younger, I always had a doll with me. And it’s amazing that we can have these empowering women in WWE be dolls and role models for young girls, because I know I always had my doll with me. The fact that we can be that for little girls is amazing.”

Her dream opponent:

“Trish Stratus. Absolutely. I watched Trish growing up, I think she’s an amazing performer and I would love to have a match against her.”

Dolph Ziggler Says He Needs To Re-Think His Career, What Happened After WWE Tapings, Shelton Benjamin

5

– Dolph Ziggler missed out on a spot in the men’s Team SmackDown 5-on-5 Traditional Elimination Match at WWE Survivor Series by losing a 2 of 3 Falls Match to Bobby Roode on this week’s SmackDown. In the video below, Ziggler says he feels like he always does after the loss – as much as he doesn’t care what other people think and as much as he goes out of his way to let everyone know, he sees a lot of the favorite Superstars as frauds or smoke & mirrors, he still tends to lose every time he steps foot in the ring.

Ziggler says as prepared as he was, as on top of his game as he was, as excited as he was, even though he doesn’t show it in the hallway, to represent Team SmackDown at Survivor Series, he still wants to prove a point – that he belongs here but he didn’t do that tonight. No matter how much he stepped up his game, it wasn’t enough and it’s not that he didn’t have it, he did, but Bobby Roode is as good as he says he is. Ziggler might say Roode is a catchphrase, an entrance or a new kid, but he’s more than that. Ziggler says the WWE Universe doesn’t back him anymore and the people behind the scenes never have, as this has always been about himself, but he couldn’t deliver this week. Ziggler says he went toe-to-toe with “this kid” that is going to go places, but Roode wasn’t just an entrance tonight – he was the better man. Ziggler says it’s clear that he needs to re-think his own career.

– The dark main event after tonight’s WWE 205 Live in Norfolk, Virginia saw Randy Orton and AJ Styles defeat Sami Zayn and WWE Champion Jinder Mahal.

– As noted, next week’s taped WWE SmackDown in Manchester, England will see #1 contenders Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable get their title shots from SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos. The announcement was made during a backstage segment that saw Gable rap again to send a warning to The Usos. Benjamin took to Twitter after the show and wrote the following on the match:

5 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (10/31)

3

The October 31st episode of SmackDown aired live from the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA. Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s SmackDown:

Shane McMahon Announced Himself As Team Captain For SmackDown At Survivor Series

shane mcmahon

SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon kicked off this week’s episode. Shane said that RAW has always looked at SmackDown as the inferior brand. Shane stated that they had a team meeting and decided to go to RAW and kick them right in the mouth to prove a point. Shane thanked everyone in the back and said that SmackDown has heart.

McMahon then addressed Kane attacking Daniel Bryan last night on RAW. Shane accused Kurt Angle and Stephanie of setting Bryan up and added that their is going to be hell to pay for that. Shane then announced himself as captain of the SmackDown men’s team for Survivor Series.

Kurt Angle was announced to be the captain of Team RAW last night at Survivor Series, so it was predictable that Shane would become the captain of Team SmackDown. There aren’t too many things I’m looking forward to at Survivor Series, but the men’s 5v5 match is interesting in my opinion. It was announced earlier today that Braun Strowman has now joined Team RAW in the match. That leaves the possibility of Kane joining the team as well and I doubt that those two would be able to co-exist.

SmackDown seems like a fractured group with Daniel Bryan not agreeing with Shane McMahon’s actions. Stephanie McMahon essentially told Kurt Angle that she will replace him as GM if RAW doesn’t win the match at Survivor Series. The rest of the card seems mediocre right now, but at least there is a lot going on in this match.

Bobby Roode Earned A Spot On Team SmackDown At Survivor Series

Bobby Roode

Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode competed in a 2 out of 3 Falls match. The winner of the bout would join Team SmackDown at Survivor Series. Ziggler picked up the first victory, but Bobby Roode battled back and picked up the next two falls and won the match via a Glorious DDT.

Bobby Roode now joins Shane McMahon and Randy Orton on Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.

Ziggler and Roode had a great match tonight on SmackDown and the crowd was into it. I’ve been incredibly disappointed with how SmackDown has booked Bobby Roode since he has joined the main roster.

He is a natural heel, but for some reason he debuted as a generic babyface. I hope he has a good showing at Survivor Series and isn’t one of the first SmackDown Superstars eliminated. I also hope that his feud with Dolph Ziggler is over and that we see the Bobby Roode from NXT on Tuesday nights moving forward.

Baron Corbin Ran Away From Sin Cara

corbin

Baron Corbin faced Sin Cara yet again tonight on SmackDown. Corbin kept trying to remove his mask and Sin Cara lost it. Sin Cara beat the hell out of Corbin on the announce table and then whipped a computer chair at Corbin. Corbin then escaped through the crowd as Sin Cara stood tall in the ring. Sin Cara was interviewed backstage later during the show and said that he worked his entire life to earn his mask and Baron Corbin did an extremely disrespectful thing by trying to remove it during their match.

It is remarkable how far Baron Corbin has fallen. Yes, he is the United States Champion but I thought he was going to be so much more when he won the MITB contract. Instead, he lost his MITB cash-in match against Jinder Mahal, lost to John Cena at SummerSlam and has never recovered.

The United States Championship has done absolutely nothing for him. His current feud is making Sin Cara look like the legit Superstar and Corbin look like a joke. The only positive thing that can come out of this feud for Baron Corbin is that he loses a Mask vs Hair Match to Sin Cara and has to finally shave his head.

Jinder Mahal Was Impressive Tonight

jinder mahal 2

AJ Styles faced Samir Singh tonight after destroying Sunil Singh last week. Styles won the match easily tonight with a Styles Clash, but was quickly attacked by Jinder Mahal after the match. Mahal planted Styles with two excellent looking Khallases and then raised the WWE Championship over him.

Before the match started, Mahal also cut a solid promo. Jinder said that fear is starting to creep into Brock Lesnar. Jinder vowed to win the match and said that he would forever be known as “The Beast Master”. Mahal then went to speak in Punjabi but AJ Styles interrupted.

I’ve taken every opportunity to bash Jinder Mahal when he messes something up, so I’ve got to point out when he has a good night. He looked the part of a heel WWE Champion tonight and delivered a solid promo. He then followed it up with an impressive beatdown of AJ Styles. “The Beast Master” was a pretty terrible line but I’m going to assume that he didn’t come up with it. I’m convinced that something screwy is going to happen at Survivor Series and Mahal is going to escape with a victory over Brock Lesnar.

Shinsuke Nakamura Is The Fourth Member Of Team SmackDown

nakamura

Kevin Owens faced Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of tonight’s SmackDown. The winner of the match would join Team SmackDown at Survivor Series. Owens tried to avoid Nakamura early, but Shinsuke posed in the ring and dared Owens to come fight him. Owens obliged and got a kick to the face for his troubles. Owens once again rolled out of the ring and Nakamura followed him. Owens got in a couple of shots, but Nakamura drove him into the barricade.

When SmackDown returned, Owens was in control of the match and connected with a DDT for a two count. Nakamura battled back and connected with a series of kicks. Sami Zayn came down the entrance ramp and Owens tried to capitalize on the distraction by rolling up Nakamura but Shinsuke kicked out. Owens then hit a Superplex off the top rope but Nakamura kicked out.

Shinsuke geared up for the Kinshasa but Sami Zayn dragged Owens out of the ring. Nakamura started arguing with Sami outside the ring and Owens shoved Nakamura into the steel steps. Owens hit a Frog Splash off the top rope but Nakamura was able to kick out at the last moment. Owens instructed Sami Zayn to clear off the table outside the ring. Sami did but Randy Orton showed up and slammed Zayn on top of the table. Back in the ring, Nakamura connected with the Kinshasa for the victory and is the fourth member of Team SmackDown.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are now off of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series. I feel like this all setting up for them to interfere in the match and go after Team SmackDown. Nakamura is another Superstar that I think has been underutilized since joining the main roster. Much like Bobby Roode, I hope Nakamura isn’t eliminated early at Survivor Series and he has some kind of impact during the show. There is one more spot open on Team SmackDown and AJ Styles and Rusev will battle next week to determine who gets it.

Team SmackDown Updates For WWE Survivor Series

1

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Kevin Owens in the main event of tonight’s WWE SmackDown to earn a spot on the men’s Team SmackDown at WWE Survivor Series.

Owens losing tonight means that he and best friend Sami Zayn do not have matches at the Survivor Series. Sami lost to Randy Orton last week in a qualifying match. The final spot for the men’s 5-on-5 Traditional Elimination Match will be determined next week as AJ Styles takes on Rusev.

Title Match On Next Week’s SmackDown, Tonight’s Dark Match Result, Sin Cara vs. Baron Corbin

1

– Tonight’s WWE SmackDown episode saw the feud between Sin Cara and WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin continue. Corbin won their non-title match by disqualification after Cara would not stop beating him around the ringside area. Cara became enraged after Corbin wouldn’t stop trying to take his mask off. Cara has picked up two non-title wins over Corbin before this match – one by count out and the other by disqualification. Below is video from tonight’s match:

Baron Corbin Fires Back At The Miz With New Promo (Video)

Next month at Survivor Series, Intercontinental Champion The Miz will face United States Champion Baron Corbin as part of the event’s RAW vs. SmackDown theme.

The two champions have been exchanging trash talking promos on social media, with Miz getting the upper hand (to put it mildly) in the first round.

On Tuesday afternoon, Corbin fired back with more comments about Miz’s pregnant wife Maryse. Corbin says Miz had to bring Maryse out of retirement to make himself relevant and after Survivor Series, Miz will be left battered and beaten and will the one calling him “daddy.”

Miz, your move.

WWE Survivor Series takes place on Sunday, November 19th from Houston, TX.

He says they’ve been trying to change the perception about SmackDown being the #2 show, but it wasn’t enough. He says attacking RAW was the best way to make a statement, and he thanks all of the fans for their support. The crowd chants for Shane as he goes on talking about Survivor Series. Shane reveals that he will be the team captain for SmackDown in the eight-man tag at Survivor Series, facing Kurt Angle and his RAW team.
