Details On Bobby Roode’s Next Feud On SmackDown

33

Bobby Roode has been on a roll since making his SmackDown Live debut after SummerSlam, picking up wins over Aiden English and Mike Kannellis in recent weeks.

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, it’s expected that Dolph Ziggler’s current gimmick of impersonating WWE Superstars and legends will eventually lead to him impersonating Roode’s “Glorious” entrance, setting up a feud between them.

As announced on Monday, Roode and Ziggler are scheduled to face each other at Starrcade from the the Greenboro Coliseum on November 25th.

Speaking of Roode, he’s got a new “Glorious” t-shirt available at WWEShop.com.

Discussion: What do you think about a possible Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler feud?

John Cena Talks Missing Last Night’s RAW, WrestleMania Going To China, Never Give Up

2

16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena recently did an interview with SCMP to discuss a variety of professional wrestling topics. “The Leader Of The Cenation” discussed missing last night’s (Mon. September 19, 2017) episode of Monday Night RAW, potential success of Chinese WWE Superstars and possibly seeing WrestleMania go to China, and his “Never Give Up” catchphrase. Check out the highlights here below:

Working live events and missing Monday’s RAW:

“I will literally spend more time in a fuselage than I will on the ground here, that’s how important this trip was to me. I was initially supposed to miss this event, and I bent time to be here. This is taking priority above a lot of things, including me being in the air the entire day on Monday, so you can do the maths to see how important this is.”

The potential success of WWE Superstars and possibly bringing WrestleMania to China:

“I think the possibilities are endless. Absolutely endless. Not only do I see potential success for Chinese superstars to move through the ranks, I envision a world where we do television broadcasts from over here. I envision a world where we do WrestleMania from here. So I would love to create a culture in China surrounding WWE, that’s with a strong developmental system for our superstars and hopefully a greater and greater live event presence. We encourage our audience to be in it and involved as they want. That culture is what really is going to drive our increased presence here. I hope I can encourage the crowd here to be … respectfully excited.”

His “Never Give Up” catchphrase being more than a marketing tool:

“It’s not something that I try to force people to understand. Those three words are led by example and led by action.

“It’s a great feeling to be able to check in and go to work and aside from calling it your job, to be able to affect people’s lives. If I can do both, I’m a super happy dude. I think the more fans in China that resonate with the WWE product, the more will like me and the more won’t like me. It’s the same everywhere.”

WWE Issues Statement On Paige’s Visit To Performance Center

17

While Paige has been determined to return to WWE, many wondered if the company would allow her to come back considering everything that has happened with her boyfriend Alberto Del Rio. Though now it appears that it may not be a problem in her in-ring return.

As we noted before Paige visited WWE Performance Center this Monday and posted a photo of it from her Instagram account with the hashtag “Road back to my house”.

Now the company has also acknowledged the visit of the former Diva’s Champion by posting the following story regarding it on their official website:

Paige returns to the WWE Performance Center

Paige is on a journey to reclaim her “house.”

The former Divas Champion — unseen in a WWE ring for more than a year — revealed she has returned to the WWE Performance Center, presumably beginning her return to active competition in WWE.

“Went to see an old friend today,” she wrote. “Good to be back there! @wwe #RoadBackToMyHouse”

Paige is a two-time Divas Champion and became the youngest Superstar to hold the title when she captured it during her Raw debut at the age of 21. If her return is imminent, as this post is leading many in the WWE Universe to believe, consider the women of Raw and SmackDown LIVE officially put on notice.”

Though it’s worth mentioning here that the story does not clearly state that Paige visited the PC to train for her in-ring return and the caption of her photo also states that she went there to meet ‘an old friend’.

Paige has been away from a WWE ring from well over a year now. She last appeared on WWE programming during the June 27, 2016, episode of Raw and underwent a neck surgery back in October last year.

Ex-WWE Writer Reveals Scrapped Storyline Involving Vince McMahon’s Brother

10

Since the Attitude Era, WWE fans have grown to know the entire McMahon family, who have often been the focal point of the company’s top storylines. One McMahon who we haven’t met, but almost did, is Vince’s real-life brother, Rodderick McMahon.

On the latest episode of The World According To Wrestling podcast, ex-WWE writer Court Bauer of Major League Wrestling (MLW) revealed that a storyline was in place to introduce Vince’s brother around the time of the infamous ‘exploding limousine’ storyline.

“I always think what could’ve been because we were gearing up to do something with Vince’s little known brother Roderick,” Bauer explained. “His family was going to come in the following week and be part of the funeral for Vince McMahon and I was always pushing that I would love to get another side of the McMahon family involved with WWE. I think it would’ve been fascinating because people forget that Vince has a brother and I think that that story would’ve been amazing.”

With Stephanie, Shane and even Linda McMahon playing such prominant roles on televsion over the years, Bauer saw money in introducing fans to Vince’s brother, who took a back seat as Vince bought WWE from his father in the early 80’s and turned it into the global billion dollar empire it is today.

“How Vince the tycoon he is, the ruthlessly aggressive guy, you know, took over the family business,” he said. “His poor brother, what happened to him? And now there’s a refresh on the McMahon dynasty and all of the rivalries and stuff you could tell now, all of these new stories that are there because Roderick has children that you could play with in this setting.”

After the shocking exploding limousine angle, the entire storyline was dropped a week later due to the Benoit family tragedy. The  June 25th, 2007 episode of RAW instead featured a Chris Benoit tribute, with Vince appearing on camera and breaking kayfabe to acknlwedge that his fiery demise just a week earlier was part of a storyline.

For whatever reason, the idea of introducing Vince McMahon’s brother on television was never revisited.

Goldust Down For Cody At Starrcade, Matt Hardy Invites The Young Bucks

6

On Monday, WWE announced that Starrcade is being revived for a special SmackDown live event from Greensboro, North Carolina on 11/25. Cody Rhodes tweeted to Michael Hayes saying that his brother Goldust should be booked for the show, in honor of his father, who created the event. Michael Hayes replied that Cody is also welcome and should team with Dustin at the event.

While that’s probably not happening, Goldust sounds intrigued – and suggested that he and Cody team up against North Carolina natives Matt and Jeff Hardy.

https://twitter.com/Goldust/status/909927392512057344

Meanwhile, Matt Hardy chimed in and said Cody should bring his fellow Bullet Club members, The Young Bucks. He’s got a few Hardy family members of his own that he’d bring to the event.

While Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks at a WWE event isn’t happening any time soon (at least this year), stranger things have happened.

XWA (UK) Announce ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ Concept for London Show feat. Simon Gotch

1

XWA, the UK promotion that brought you Kota Ibushi shooting himself with fireworks, will be hosting a five round ‘live improv’ concept called ‘Whose Clothesline Is It Anyway?’ at the Resistance Gallery in London on October 7th, obviously inspired by the extremely successful ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ television show.

XWA has been a company that continually strives to innovate ever since their inception, realising that the UK wrestling scene has been booming for the couple of years and therefore being more crowded than ever, XWA (as well as sister promotion Pro Wrestling EVE) has been looking to present their shows in a different way, this concept shows just one aspect of how they’re ‘different’ and in many ways weird and wonderful.

WWE RAW Recap & Reaction (9/18)

11

RAW General Manager Kurt Angle kicked off this week’s episode of RAW and encouraged fans to chant “you suck!” as he made his way down the entrance ramp. Angle got to the ring and welcomed the San Jose crowd to Monday Night RAW. Angle stated that there are two matches that are WrestleMania worthy in six days at WWE No Mercy. Those two matches were Cena versus Reigns and Brock Lesnar versus Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship.

Intercontinental Champion The Miz stormed down to the ring with Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas by his side. Kurt Angle congratulated The Miz on becoming a father, but said he didn’t appreciate Miz’s snide comment he made about him last week in regards to his son, Jason Jordan.

The Miz interrupted Angle and complained that No Mercy will be the second PPV in a row that the Intercontinental Championship will not be defended. Angle announced that Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Elias and Jason Jordan will compete in a Fatal 4-Way to determine who Miz will defend his title against at No Mercy. The Miz said that it was ridiculous that Jason Jordan was in the match and claimed Superstars like Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel deserve a match.

Angle said that he was sick of Miz’s attitude and hoped that fatherhood would change him. The Miz scolded Angle about not being there for Jason Jordan and said that he would be a better father than Angle ever was. The Miz also added that he is a better champion than Angle ever was. The Miz said that “you could always count on Kurt Angle to be a deadbeat” and Angle glared at him.

Jason Jordan then marched down to the ring. Jordan threatened The Miz and dared him to say one more thing about his father. Jordan offered Angle a suggestion and told him to put Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel in the match. Angle said that sounded good and turned the Fatal 4-Way into a Six-Pack Challenge. The Miz laughed and told Jordan that he just decreased his odds of winning the match now that more Superstars are involved.

The Miz stated that Jason Jordan was even more incompetent that his father. This finally set Jason Jordan off and he attacked The Miz. Jordan cleaned house and knocked everyone out of the ring as his theme music hit.

Jason Jordan was shown backstage with Kurt Angle. Jordan was frustrated about people talking about his father and giving him looks and whispers. Jordan said that he didn’t ask for this and didn’t know this was going to happen when Angle was announced as his father. Angle said that Jordan needs to step up and block out the noise. Angle advised Jordan to get back at The Miz by winning the match tonight and going on to face him for the Intercontinental Championship at No Mercy on Sunday.

Reaction: Jason Jordan has all the talent in the world when it comes to performing in the ring. However, he definitely cannot cut a promo right now to save his life. He only had a few lines here and you could just tell that he wasn’t confident in himself while delivering his lines. I hope that improves with repetition and getting more comfortable on the microphone. Jordan has already proven he can hang in the ring with the likes of Roman Reigns and John Cena on recent episodes of RAW. Time will tell if he will be able to take the next step and put everything together.

Nia Jax vs Alexa Bliss

Alexa spent the first few minutes of the match desperately trying to avoid Nia. Alexa hid behind the referee and then swung at Nia but Jax caught her and casually lifted her in the air. Bliss tried to escape out of the ring but Nia grabbed her. Alexa slapped Nia in the face and escaped out of the ring. Alexa started walking up the entrance ramp and Sasha Banks’ music hit. Alexa turned out on the entrance ramp and Nia Jax absolutely leveled her as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Nia Jax was still in control. Nia quickly planted Alexa Bliss with the Samoan Drop for the pinfall victory. After the match, Sasha Banks attacked Nia Jax from behind. Nia was unfazed and dropped Sasha Banks. Bayley them came down to the ring and her hometown crowd cheered. Bayley, Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss then Speared Nia Jax and knocked her out of the ring.

Bayley and Sasha raised their hands in the ring and Alexa Bliss got in between them and tried to join in. Sasha booted Alexa in the midsection and then Bayley hit the Bayley to Belly to Alexa Bliss. Sasha and Bayley then celebrated in the ring.

Winner: Nia Jax

Reaction: They held on the Bayley and Sasha celebrating for a long time, I was waiting for attack to happen. In the end, nothing happened and the two just celebrated. It was later announced that Bayley has joined the RAW Women’s Championship match at WWE No Mercy.

Sheamus & Cesaro vs Gallows & Anderson vs Ambrose & Rollins

Before the match, Sheamus and Cesaro cut a promo. Sheamus stated that everything today is about nostalgia and that he is getting bored of it. Sheamus claimed that everyone likes escaping their harsh realities to try and live in the good old days. Sheamus boasted about destroying the Hardy Boyz. Cesaro vowed that they will recapture the RAW Tag Team Championships at No Mercy.

Sheamus stated that both Ambrose and Rollins are using each other for their own selfish needs. The crowd chanted “what?!” and Sheamus repeated “their own selfish needs” several times. Sheamus said that Ambrose and Rollins’ friendship is fragile and that he and Cesaro trust each other. Ambrose and Rollins then came down to the entrance ramp with microphones in their hands.

Rollins said that Sheamus and Cesaro looked like “a taxi driver had a weird disgusting baby with Braveheart with your little kilts”. Ambrose and Rollins got into the ring. Dean continued to poke fun at Sheamus and Cesaro’s kilts and Gallows and Anderson interrupted.

Gallows and Anderson called Sheamus & Cesaro “not good brothers” for walking out on them last week. Anderson stated that Rollins and Ambrose took advantage of their disadvantage and that makes them “not good brothers” as well. Gallows then called Rollins and Ambrose a couple of nerds. Dean Ambrose then got pissed off and shouted “nobody calls me a nerd!” and a brawl broke out. Rollins and Ambrose cleared the ring as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, the match was underway. Sheamus and Rollins were the two Superstars in the ring. Seth connected with a Dropkick and followed it up with a couple of chops to Sheamus’ chest. Ambrose was then tagged and was launched into the corner. Gallows tagged himself in and booted Sheamus in the chest.

Gallows and Sheamus traded shots in the middle of the ring. Sheamus shoved Gallows into the corner and Cesaro was tagged in. Cesaro hit an uppercut and tagged Sheamus back in. Sheamus connected with an uppercut of his own and then threw Gallows into the turnbuckle. Sheamus then hit a knee to the face and went for another one but got a boot in the face instead from Gallows.

Rollins was tagged in and hit a springboard Clothesline for a one count. Ambrose was tagged in and he hit a double Suplex with Rollins on Sheamus. Ambrose continued the attack and elbowed Sheamus in the face. Ambrose delivered a missile Dropkick off the second rope for a two count.

Seth was tagged in and he connected with a kick for a two count. Dean was tagged in as Rollins held Sheamus up. Ambrose hit an elbow off the top rope and then charged at Sheamus but Sheamus was ready and knocked Dean to the mat. Ambrose elbowed Cesaro off the ring apron and then tried to leap onto him but Cesaro caught him. Cesaro then hit the Cesaro Swing and launched Ambrose into the barricade surrounding the ring.

Back in the ring, Sheamus tagged in Cesaro and he continued the beatdown of Dean Ambrose. Anderson tagged himself in and unloaded several right hands to Ambrose’s face for a one count. Anderson applied a Chin Lock in the middle of the ring but Dean quickly battled to his feet. Anderson planted Ambrose with a Spinebuster for a two count.

Gallows was tagged in and connected with a vertical Suplex to Ambrose in the middle of the ring Gallows then hit three elbows in a row and went for a fourth but Ambrose rolled out of the way. Ambrose finally tagged Rollins in and Cesaro was tagged in at the same time. Rollins planted Cesaro with a Slingblade and then knocked Sheamus off the apron. Seth then connected with a Blockbuster off the second rope onto Cesaro for a two count.

Rollins climbed up to the top rope but Cesaro greeted him with an uppercut. Rollins escaped off the turnbuckle and Powerbombed Cesaro into the turnbuckle on the opposite side of the ring. Rollins went for the pinfall but Sheamus broke it up and stomped on Rollins. Sheamus was then tagged in as Ambrose and Cesaro Clotheslined each other out of the ring.

Gallows was tagged in and he sent Sheamus out of the ring. Anderson and Gallows hit the Magic Killer onto Rollins and went for the cover but Ambrose broke it up. Sheamus and Cesaro then brought Ambrose out of the ring and threw him into the barricade as RAW went to another commercial break.

When RAW returned, Sheamus and Cesaro were the two legal Superstars in the ring. Cesaro was quickly tagged in and he blasted Rollins off the ring apron and Seth slammed into the barricade. Cesaro got out of the ring and casually lifted Rollins up like he was nothing and brought him back into the ring. Sheamus and Cesaro took turns beating down Rollins for a minute and took a break to pose for the crowd.

Rollins tried to work his way to Ambrose in the corner and eventually tagged in Ambrose but the referee didn’t see it. Sheamus then lifted Rollins in the air and Cesaro connected with a move similar to the 3D but Anderson ran into the ring to break up the cover. Cesaro knocked Gallows and Anderson off the ring apron.

Sheamus charged at Rollins in the corner but Seth got out of the way and Sheamus crashed into the turnbuckle. Rollins then hit Cesaro with a Tornado DDT and tagged in Ambrose. Dean leveled Anderson with a Clothesline and delivered another to Gallows. Ambrose then planted Cesaro with a Neckbreaker and connected with a Splash in the corner.

Ambrose perched Anderson up on the top rope and delivered a Superplex. Ambrose then quickly climbed up the turnbuckle and hit an elbow but Sheamus broke up the cover. A brawl broke out but Ambrose and Rollins quickly cleaned house. Rollins and Ambrose hit Suicide Dives onto Gallows, Anderson, Sheamus and Cesaro.

Ambrose brought Anderson back into the ring as Rollins climbed up the turnbuckle. Gallows hopped up on the ring apron and shoved Rollins. Ambrose knocked Gallows off the ring apron and Anderson tried to roll him up but Ambrose kicked out. Sheamus tagged himself in as Dean was going for the Lunatic Lariat. Ambrose then planted Anderson with the Dirty Deeds but Sheamus threw Dean out of the ring and stole the pinfall victory.

Winners: Sheamus & Cesaro

Reaction: This was one hell of a match for an episode of RAW. It was given substantial time and all the Superstars delivered in the ring. Tag team wrestling is highly entertaining when done right and this match was a great example of that.

The Miz, Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel were backstage. The Miz started rambling about Kurt Angle and Jason Jordan. Bo and Axel interrupted and both vowed to win tonight’s match. Axel said that he wouldn’t take it easy on The Miz at No Mercy if he wins tonight. Bo stated that he cannot wait to steal the show with The Miz this Sunday. The Miz told them both to take things one step at a time and not forget what is important tonight. The Miz said that Jason Jordan does not deserve the spotlight and that Bo and Axel do. Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel nodded in agreement as RAW went to a break.

A video was shown to hype up the match between Roman Reigns and John Cena this Sunday at WWE No Mercy.

Goldust was shown backstage with Kurt Angle. Goldust didn’t have his face paint on and demanded a second match against Bray Wyatt. Goldust said that he was asking as the man behind the paint, Dustin Rhodes. Goldust asked Angle as a man and a friend to give him a chance to show Bray Wyatt that he is not a pawn in his twisted game against Finn Balor. Kurt Angle reluctantly agreed to make the match. Goldust then said that “tonight Bray Wyatt will never forget the name of Dustin Rhodes”.

Curt Hawkins cut a promo in the ring and said that his star factory was officially closed. Hawkins said that the “history machine” will take it’s place. Hawkins said that tonight his 114 match losing streak will come to an end tonight. Hawkins asked “who wants to make history?” and Apollo Crews came down to the ring with Titus O’Neil.

Curt Hawkins vs Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews controlled the match early. Hawkins connected with a kick and applied a Chin Lock. Crews broke free with a Jawbreaker but Hawkins hit him with a Spinebuster for a two count. Crews connected with a kick but Hawkins went for a roll-up and grabbed the tights for leverage. Crews kicked out and planted him with a Powerbomb for the victory.

Winner: Apollo Crews

Reaction: Curt Hawkins’ losing streak is now at 115 as Apollo Crews picked up the easy victory. Crews will now use the momentum gained from this victory to carry him back to catering and will most likely not be seen on RAW for another month.

Michael Cole interviewed Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar while they were in separate rooms. Heyman said that Braun Strowman will be conquered at No Mercy, just like Lesnar conquered The Undertaker. Strowman said that his actions speak for his words and he has beaten down Lesnar for the weeks now. Strowman stated that he is the only man that can keep Brock Lesnar down for good.

Heyman said that there is no one like Strowman and called him the most capable opponent that Lesnar has defended his Universal Championship against. Heyman said that doesn’t mean that Srowman can survive Suplex City and Braun quickly interrupted and vowed to stomp Suplex City to the ground. Heyman responded by stating that Brock Lesnar understands that he is going to have to beat Strowman within an inch of his life to keep his title. Strowman said that Heyman can run his mouth all he wants, it is not going to change what is going to happen on Sunday.

Cole went to ask Strowman another question but Heyman interrupted and said that Brock Lesnar is still the story here. Heyman listed off Lesnar’s accomplishments. Lesnar then leaned towards the camera and thanked Strowman for backing him into this corner. Lesnar said that he is at his best when he is challenged and said that he will see Strowman Sunday. Lesnar went to get up but stared directly into the camera again and added “Suplex City bitch”. Strowman grinned as Lesnar stared into the camera.

Reaction: I am already sold on this match as I’ve stated several times. This promo was decent, but obviously I would have preferred another confrontation in the ring. We will just have to wait until Sunday at No Mercy. I am expecting an extremely physical match on Sunday and I cannot wait to see it.

Roman Reigns came down to the ring to his usual negative reaction from the WWE Universe. Reigns stated that Cena sometimes says stupid sh*t like that he wants to be the next John Cena. Reigns poked fun at Cena’s appearance and said that if he looked like him, he wouldn’t have a career in WWE. Reigns then said if you don’t believe him, ask Alex Riley about that. Reigns called Cena the “biggest hypocrite to ever set foot in a WWE ring”.

Reigns rolled footage of Cena cutting a promo on The Rock in February of 2012. Cena stated during the promo that he had a beef with The Rock for not showing up every week and that the WWE was not a movie promotion for him. Cena said at the end of the promo “I’ll see you next week movie star” and then blew The Rock a kiss.

Reigns asked the crowd if they should bring Cena out and then stated that is not possible because Cena is not here. Roman said that the result will be the same as that year’s WrestleMania, only this time Cena will lose to a different samoan. Reigns then looked into the camera and said to Cena “I’ll see you this Sunday, movie star”.

Reaction: The Alex Riley line was the best part of this promo. Other than that, this promo was boring. Cena has already admitted that he was wrong about The Rock pursuing opportunities outside of WWE, so the insults feel kind of late. This promo would have been electric a couple of years ago, it just came off as lame now. The match between Reigns and Cena at No Mercy this Sunday is still must-see television.

The Hardy Boyz were interviewed backstage. Matt and Jeff talked about the battles they had with each other making them stronger. Jeff said that he was going to seize the moment at No Mercy. Matt said that he is going to have to make it to No Mercy first and that he plans on winning the Six-Pack Challenge tonight. Jeff said “may the best Hardy win” and the two shook hands.

Dustin Rhodes vs Bray Wyatt

Bray started off the match in control and knocked Dustin out of the ring. Wyatt slammed Dustin into the barricade. Dustin battled back and sent Bray flying over the steel steps. Dustin then leaped off the steps and hit a Bulldog on Wyatt. Rhodes punched Wyatt in the face a few times but Bray connected with a headbutt that knocked Dustin to the floor.

The action returned to the ring and Rhodes perched Wyatt up in the corner and connected with Shattered Dreams. Dustin charged at Bray but Wyatt countered and planted Rhodes with the Sister Abigail for the victory.

Finn Balor appeared on the jumbotron and told Wyatt a story about a shy little boy that wanted to be something great. Eventually the boy became a man and as a man he discovered a way to control the anger inside of him. This man created a demon. Balor asked Wyatt “if the demon is a creation of the man, which one is more dangerous?”. Balor then said that Wyatt will find out this Sunday at No Mercy.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

Reaction: I can’t get into this feud at all. I’m sure Wyatt and Balor will have a solid match this Sunday, but the storyline hasn’t interested me since before SummerSlam.

A tribute to the late Bobby Heenan was shown.

Enzo Amore started cutting a promo about his Cruiserweight Championship match against Neville at No Mercy. Braun Strowman interrupted and proceeded to beat the hell out of Amore. Strowman brought Enzo to the ring as the crowd chanted “thank you Strowman”. Braun lifted Enzo up with ease and Chokeslammed him to the mat. Braun picked him back up and planted Enzo with a Running Powerslam. Strowman then posed in the ring and walked up the entrance ramp.

Neville then showed up on the entrance ramp and got out of Strowman’s way. Neville marched towards the ring and climbed to the top rope. Neville hit the Red Arrow and then demanded the microphone. Neville mocked Enzo’s dance and shouted “how you doin?” and then cackled into the microphone.

Reaction: Enzo has been made to look like an asshat for two weeks in a row. He is either in WWE’s doghouse or they are just making it seem as unlikely as possible that he will become Cruiserweight Champion at No Mercy. I really hope that Neville retains on Sunday. Neville has essentially run through the entire Cruiserweight division in dominant fashion. In my opinion, that would be trivialized if he drops the title to a Superstar as limited in the ring as Enzo Amore.

Enzo was interviewed backstage. Amore had an ice pack on his stomach and vowed to take Neville’s Cruiserweight Championship at No Mercy.

Gran Metalik vs Neville

Metalik connected with a Dropkick off the second rope and Neville rolled out of the ring. Metalik chased after him and Neville dropped him with a boot to the chest. Neville ripped Metalik’s mask in half. Metalik got pissed off and connected with a flurry of right hands. The action returned to the ring and Metalik hit another Dropkick. Neville once again rolled out of the ring and Metalik connected with a Moonsault.

Metalik brought Neville back into the ring and hit a Crossbody for a two count. Metalik quickly went for a Moonsault off the top rope but Neville got his feet up to counter the move. Neville then applied the Rings of Saturn for the submission victory.

Winner: Neville

Six-Pack Challenge To Determine #1 Contender For IC Championship: Elias vs Jason Jordan vs Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy vs Bo Dallas vs Curtis Axel

Elias performed a song before the match. Elias singled out a kid in the crowd who was looking at him funny and said that he was going to have he and his mom kicked out of San Jose if he looked at him that way again. The Hardy Boyz interrupted Elias’ brilliant performance and made their way to the ring.

The rest of the Superstars in the match made their way to the ring and The Miz took a seat ringside in a director’s chair. Jeff Hardy tried to roll-up Matt early but Matt kicked off. RAW went to a commercial break with Matt and Jeff arguing in the ring.

When RAW returned, Matt planted Bo Dallas with a Neckbreaker for a two count. Elias connected with a Backbreaker to Jason Jordan. Elias then attacked Axel from behind and leveled him with a Clothesline. Elias perched Jason Jordan up on the top rope and chopped him across the chest.

Elias displayed insane athleticism leaped to the top rope to join Jordan but the Miztourage shoved him to the outside the ring. The Miztourage went to Superplex Jordan, but the Hardy’s Powerbombed Bo and Axel as they Superplexed Jordan and everyone crashed to the canvas. Matt hit Jeff Hardy with the Side Effect but Bo Dallas broke up the pinfall.

Bo and Axel then drove Matt Hardy shoulder-first into the ring post and Matt fell out of the ring. Jordan hit Bo with a Belly to Belly and then delivered one to Curtis Axel. Jordan took down his singlet straps, screamed and hit Axel with two Northern Lights Suplexes in a row. Bo threw Jordan out of the ring and The Miz hopped out of his fancy chair and slammed Jordan into the barricade.

Back in the ring, Matt hit Bo Dallas with the Twist of Fate but Elias broke up the pinfall. Elias then planted Matt with the Drift Away but Jeff broke up the cover. Jeff hit the inverted Atomic Drop and then followed it up with a Leg Drop. Jeff connected with a Neckbreaker to Curtis Axel and followed it up with a Swanton Bomb. Jeff went for the cover but The Miz ran into the ring and broke it up. Jeff threw Miz out of the ring but Axel slammed him to the mat. Jason Jordan got back into the ring and hit a Neckbreaker for the victory.

After the match, The Miz tried to attack Jordan but Jason connected with a couple of Belly to Belly Suplexes. The Miztourage got back into the ring and attacked Jordan. The Miz then planted Jordan with the Skull Crushing Finale and grabbed a microphone. The Miz stated that he will still be the Intercontinental Champion after No Mercy and Kurt Angle be a terrible father. The Miz then said that Jason Jordan will still be a bastard and raised the title over Jordan as RAW went off the air.

Winner: Jason Jordan

Reaction: Jason Jordan was really the only Superstar that made sense to win the Six-Pack Challenge tonight. I thought that this match would happen at SummerSlam, but it is happening this Sunday at No Mercy. This is a hard one to predict, because I could see it going either way. I could see Jordan becoming the Intercontinental Champion Sunday, but I could just as easily see The Miztourage costing him the match.

Either way, Jason Jordan is most likely going to win the Intercontinental Championship in the near future. He has the talent as an in-ring performer, time will tell if he can put everything together and become a star. Overall, tonight’s episode of RAW was decent. I didn’t need much to sell me on Sunday’s PPV. I am really looking forward to No Mercy and I hope it isn’t a letdown.

Bayley Added To RAW Women’s Championship Match At WWE No Mercy

Tonight on RAW, Bayley made her return to the ring in her hometown of San Jose. Bayley came down to the ring after the match between Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss. Nia won the match, but Sasha Banks attacked her after the victory. Nia slammed Sasha to the mat and Bayley came down to the ring for the save.

Bayley, Sasha and Alexa Bliss then teamed up for a moment to knock Nia out of the ring. Sasha and Bayley started to celebrate and Alexa tried to join in on the fun. That didn’t go too well for the RAW Women’s Champion, as Sasha kneed her in the face and Bayley then planted her with a Bayley to Belly Suplex. Sasha and Bayley then celebrated in the ring.

It was then announced that Bayley will join the RAW Women’s Championship match at No Mercy. Alexa Bliss will now defend her title against Bayley, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax and Emma in a Fatal 5-Way match this Sunday.

The September 18th edition of WWE RAW took place at the SAP Center in San Jose, CA. This was the last episode of RAW before Sunday’s No Mercy PPV.

– We see a graphic on the screen in memory of the late, great Bobby Heenan before tonight’s broadcast begins.

– Michael Cole welcomes us to the arena, and then RAW GM Kurt Angle comes out to the ring to kick off the show. Angle gets on the mic and runs down the card for Sunday’s No Mercy pay-per-view, but he’s quickly interrupted by The Miz. The Miz comes down to the ring with his Intercontinental Title and the Miztourage minus Maryse. The Miz gets on the mic and complains that he’s treated like an afterthought, and Angle is hyping up No Mercy without having his IC Champ on the card. Angle says he’s not done yet, and he has an announcement. Kurt says tonight there will be a Fatal 4 Way involving Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Elias and Jason Jordan to determine the #1 contender for Miz’s IC Title at No Mercy. Miz says none of them are deserving, and he complains that Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel deserve those opportunities. Miz says he’ll be a better father than Kurt Angle, and he’s a better champion than Angle ever was. Miz says he and the Miztourage should be his priority, not Jason Jordan. Miz cuts a promo on Angle for being a deadbeat, and Angle does not look happy. Jason Jordan comes out to interrupt. Jordan tells Miz not to say another word about Angle, and Jordan tells his dad he has an idea. Jordan says to add Dallas and Axel to the match tonight so Miz has no excuses, and Kurt Angle agrees. Miz insults Angle and Jordan again, and Jordan’s had enough so he spears Miz down. Jordan fights off Dallas and Axel and he clears the ring. The Miztourage retreats up the ramp as Jordan and Angle look on from the ring.

– Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax are shown (separately) walking towards the gorilla position.

– Jason Jordan and Kurt Angle are backstage, and Jordan says he hears the whispers in the locker room and at No Mercy he’s going to shut everyone up with what he does to The Miz for the IC Title. Angle tells Jordan that people are going to talk, and Jordan needs to focus on winning tonight so he gets the shot at No Mercy.

Nia Jax def. Alexa Bliss: This one is a non-title match. Bliss stalls off the opening bell and Nia chases her to the outside. Back in the ring, Alexa hides behind the ref but Nia grabs her and drops her. Bliss fights back and tries to run away again, but Nia grabs her. Bliss slaps Nia across the face then retreats to the ramp. Bliss tries to leave but she’s interrupted by Sasha Banks. Bliss runs back to the ring and runs right into Nia who drops her. Back in the ring Bliss tries to mount a comeback, but Nia reverses a cross-body attempt into a Samoan Drop for the win.

– After the match, Sasha hits the ring and Nia slams her down. Nia stands over Sasha until Bayley’s music hits and she comes out. Bayley hits the ring and helps Sasha take out Nia and send her to the floor. Sasha and Bayley hug and raise their hands, and Bliss tries to get between them to join the celebration. Banks and Bayley don’t appreciate Bliss interrupting, so Sasha hits her then Bayley hits the belly to belly suplex. Sasha and Bayley leave together as Alexa recovers on the ringside floor.

– Michael Cole shows us some reactions on Twitter to the passing of Bobby Heenan, and he says they’ll be paying tribute to The Brain throughout the night.

– We see a video package comparing the careers of Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman. Footage of Lesnar and Strowman each going through the ring with the Big Show on separate occasions is shown. Footage is shown of Lesnar delivering the F-5 to several legends including Hulk Hogan, then we see clips of Strowman laying out Lesnar on Monday.

– Sheamus and Cesaro come out to the ring next and they grab microphones. They cut a promo saying the fans want nostalgia acts like The Hardys and Rollins & Ambrose. They repeat themselves along with the crowd’s “what” chants, which they also say are a part of the fans needing nostalgia. RAW Tag Champs Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins interrupt and they come down to the ring. They get on the mic and Rollins and Ambrose says they are brothers no matter what. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows come out next and take issue with Sheamus and Cesaro walking out of them last week. They say Rollins and Ambrose aren’t good brothers, and neither are Sheamus and Cesaro. They say Rollins and Ambrose are a couple of nerds, and Ambrose takes it badly. Ambrose gets on the mic and says nobody calls him a nerd, then he jumps Gallows. All three teams start brawling around the ring around Rollins and Ambrose clear out all four heels.

– Back from commercial we see a short video saying that Asuka is coming soon.

Sheamus & Cesaro def. Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins vs. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows: Rollins starts off with some offense on Sheamus, then Gallows tags in and throws some elbows at Sheamus. Gallows tags in and puts the boots to Ambrose then delivers a stalling vertical suplex. Gallows follows up with a series of elbow drops. Cesaro and Rollins come in and Rollins decks him with a sling blade. Rollins knocks Sheamus off the apron, then he hits the Blockbuster on Cesaro in the ring. Rollins goes up top but Cesaro stops him with a kick. Cesaro climbs up top with Rollins, but Rollins slides out and powerbombs Cesaro into the opposite turnbuckle. Sheamus runs in and breaks up the pin. Gallows tags in, then Anderson runs in and they hit the Magic Killer on Rollins. Gallows pins but Ambrose breaks it up. They throw Ambrose outside then Cesaro and Sheamus beat down Amborse at ringside. Back in the ring, Cesaro works over Rollins. Rollins comes back with a DDT out of nowhere on Cesaro and both men are down. Ambrose and Anderson tag in and Ambrose hits a superplex off the top. Ambrose goes back up top and hits a flying elbow. Rollins comes in and the Tag Champs hit suicide dives in tandem on the heels on the opposite sides of the ring. The Tag Champs appear to be going for a Doomsday Device on Anderson, but Gallows breaks it up. Anderson hits an uppercut on Ambrose and Sheamus tags in blind off Ambrose’s back. Rollins hits a splash off the top onto Sheamus, Cesaro and Gallows at ringside, while in the ring Ambrose hits the Dirty Deeds on Anderson. Ambrose goes for the pin, but Sheamus breaks it up and throws Amborse outside, then Sheamus immediately pins Anderson for the win. Sheamus and Cesaro celebrate at ringside, while Ambrose and Rollins look on from the ring and they’re not happy.

– The Miz is backstage giving a pep talk to Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. Miz trashes Jordan and Angle, then Dallas and Axel butt in and talk about how their pedigree goes back further than Jordan’s. Miz tells them to focus on tonight, and Jordan doesn’t deserve their spotlight.

– Michael Cole introduces a video package that compares the career paths of John Cena and Roman Reigns, who will face off at No Mercy on Sunday.

– Kurt Angle is on the phone backstage when he gets interrupted by Goldust. Goldust turns around to reveal that he’s not wearing his facepaint. Goldust says he needs another chance against Brya Wyatt tonight. He says he’s not asking Kurt as Goldust, he’s asking as the man behind the paint – Dustin Rhodes. Rhodes talks to Angle about their history together, and says he won’t be a pawn in Wyatt’s game against Balor. He says Wyatt will never forget the name… Dustin Rhodes.

Strowman says he left Lesnar laying last week, and he’s the only one capable of putting down Lesnar for good. Heyman interrupts and says Lesnar doesn’t respect any opponent, but he admits Strowman is his most capable challenger yet. Heyman says Strowman won’t survive Suplex City, but Strowman says he’s going to destroy Suplex City. Heyman runs down Lesnar’s list of accomplishments, then Lesnar himself interrupts and tells Braun he wants to thank him. He says he wants to thank Braun for backing him into this corner and challenging him, because that’s when he’s at his best. He tells Braun he’ll see him Sunday and he’ll take him to suplex city bitch. That concludes the interview segment and Cole hypes up No Mercy again.

– Roman Reigns comes out to the ring and he’s got a mic. Reigns says that Cena might be the best talker ever, but sometimes he says “stupid sh*t.” Reigns says he’s not the next Cena, because he doesn’t look like Cena. Reigns says if he looked like Cena he wouldn’t have a job here, “ask Alex Riley about that.” Reigns calls Cena a “little bitch” and the biggest hypocrite to ever step foot in WWE. Reigns plays footage from 2012 of Cena criticizing The Rock for leaving WWE to go work in Hollywood, and Cena saying he’ll never leave WWE. A “thank you Strowman” chant can be heard on TV as Strowman lifts Enzo up off the mat by his throat and chokeslams him down. He picks up Enzo again and plants him with a running powerslam. Strowman leaves Enzo laying as he walks towards the back. Before Strowman gets all the way to the back, Neville comes out. Strowman sees Neville but keeps walking, and Neville heads towards the ring. Neville drags Enzo towards the turnbuckle, then he heads to the top rope. Neville takes his time and hits the Red Arrow. Neville grabs a mic and asks Enzo how he’s doing. Neville admires his work while referees help Enzo to the back.

Neville def. Gran Metalik: This one’s a non-title match. Metalik hits some good offense early on with a hurricanrana and a missile dropkick. The fight spills out to the apron and ringside where Neville stuns Metalik with a kick to the face. Neville starts to rip off Metalik’s mask, but Metalik fires up and lays into Neville with right hands. Metalik follows up with a kick to the face and a springboard missile dropkick. Neville rolls outside and Metalik hits him with a suicide Swanton bomb. Back in the ring, Metalik walks the top rope and hits a splash on Neville for a two count. Metalik goes back up top for a moonsault, but Neville blocks it with both feet. Neville grabs Metalik’s arm and puts him in the Rings of Saturn for the win via submission.

Dallas and Axel beat down Matt and throw him into the ring post. Jordan throws Axel outside then hits a belly to belly overhead suplex on Dallas. Axel runs in and Jordan suplexes him too, then spears him in the corner. Jordan hits the Northern Lights suplex on Axel and rolls through for another one. Dallas breaks up the pin and throws Jordan outside. The Miz takes the opportunity to beat down Jordan at ringside. Back in ther ing, Matt hits the Twist of Fate on Dallas, but Elias breaks up the pin. Matt and Elias trade strikes in the ring until Elias hits his Stripped Away finisher. Jeff breaks up the pin and starts cleaning house. Jeff hits an inverted atomic drop and a leg drop on Elias, then the Twist of Fate on Axel. Jeff goes up top and hits the Swanton Bomb on Axel, but The Miz breaks up the pin. Jeff throws Miz outside, then Axel takes out Jeff from behind. Jordan runs in and hits his finisher on Axel for the win, and Jordan will now be going to No Mercy to compete for The Miz’s IC Title.

– After the match, The Miz gets in Jordan’s face in the ring. The Miz throws a right hand but Jordan ducks and suplexes the Champion twice. Dallas and Axel run in and start beating down Jordan, then Miz joins in. Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale on Jordan, then he gets on the mic and says after No Mercy he’ll still be the champ. He says Kurt Angle will still be a terrible father, and Jordan will still be a bastard. RAW goes off the air with the Miz holding his IC Title in the ring, with Axel and Dallas behind him standing over Jordan.

Michael Hayes Invites Cody Rhodes to Team With Goldust At WWE Starrcade

27

Well, this just got interesting. Earlier today, WWE announced that the November 25th SmackDown live event from Greensboro, North Carolina will be a special Starrcade event. Starrcade, of course, being the annual NWA/WCW pay-per-view that ran from 1983-2000.

Upon hearing the news of WWE resurrecting the event created by the late “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, Dusty’s son and Ring of Honor Champion Cody Rhodes called upon WWE official Michael Hayes to honor Dusty by featuring Goldust on the card.

Michael Hayes has since responded to Cody, offering him an opportunity to team with his brother, Goldust. While it’s unlikely that Cody will be gracing a WWE ring any time soon, there would be some poetic justice to the Rhodes brothers teaming together one more time  in the venue that holds such rich history for their family.

Silas Young On His Brief Time In WWE Developmental, What Makes ROH Stand Out, More

0

Silas Young recently spoke with James Walsh on the most recent episode of Interactive Wrestling Radio to talk about various topics. Here are the highlights:

His Last Man Standing match with Jay Lethal at Death Before Dishonor:

“Absolutely. Jay Lethal is a guy who has been all around the world, he’s traveled, he’s done a lot! I’m just there to prove that I’m just as good if not better than Jay Lethal. I’m excited to show the fans, the wrestling world, that I’m the guy they should be looking at.

His brief stint in WWE developmental:

“I never was really in the developmental system. I did a week-long thing in OVW when they had a developmental system there. But, I never actually got to join the developmental program because my contract was basically reneged on before I was able to finish the whole hiring process. At the time, OVW had the developmental contract and at the time of signing the paperwork, OVW basically had their developmental contract taken away from them by WWE. I was told, “Sorry, we won’t be following through on your contract.” It was like I had the offer of the opportunity and then had the worst time ever because of them taking it away because of the closing of OVW. Even with that said, the WWE developmental system ahs grown, and grown, and grown over the years. They have the huge performance center, nutritionists, personal trainers, promo rooms…. All these different things, all these good things that I’ve heard about and that guys have told me about. It just seems like they’ve put a lot into the developmental system just letting it grow and grow.”

What makes ROH stand out from the rest:

“That’s a good thing to ask. I don’t know what it is. I think it is the fact of how the company started. It started out as just this pure wrestling company. It started out as just a guy, or a handful of guys, that had an idea and really wanted to bring something back that was special and different. The way it has just grown over the last 15, 16 years… I think that’s what it is! It’s the fact that it wasn’t supposed to be anything and the fans and the wrestling world have taken it over and it has become something big. I think that’s what it is. I think it was something that was not supposed to be #2. But, it grew into that.”

Young Bucks On Marty Scurll Joining The Bullet Club, Their Goals, Trademarks, More

0

The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) recently spoke with Chuck Carroll of CBS Sports to promote this Friday’s ROH Death Before Dishonor PPV event. Here are the highlights:

Marty Scurll joining the Bullet Club:

Nick: It’s funny though because they just wanted to announce on Twitter that he had joined Bullet Club, and Matt and I right away said there’s no way that could be the case at all. We got a game plan going. Us, Marty and Kenny [Omega] were in the UK at the time. So, we came up with that whole storyline that everyone saw come to life in New York. It was awesome.

Matt: I remember that day we were in the UK, and Marty was panicked because he was like, “we can’t just announce this on Twitter.  That night knew we had to shoot some vignettes. … We knew they had to capitalize on a guy like Marty coming over, because he was getting white hot. … Marty joining was almost a bigger story than Adam [Cole] leaving.

Their goals:

Nick: Oh yeah … It seems like a lot of the guys these days in the WWE talk to us. They ask us questions and want to see how we’re doing, and they see that we’re doing well. So, I think that it opens up their mind like, “hey, there’s life after WWE.” If, for some reason, they get fired or they want to go away, they know there’s a place to go where they can make a good amount of money.

Possibly finding themselves in a situation like The Hardys’ legal battle with Anthem over the Broken gimmick:

Matt: As far as whether Nick and I would ever find ourselves in a situation like that, I don’t think so. We’ve been The Young Bucks for so many years, and we’ve been Matt and Nick Jackson. I have those trademarked so I own those. I own the Super Kick Party trademark. A lot of the stuff we’ve actually legally backed ourselves up. I don’t think that Ring of Honor has the type of pettiness that they would come after us for certain things that we’ve done. We were doing Super Kick Parties long before Ring of Honor. I think we’re in a situation where we’d be okay.

John Cena’s Dad Says Jinder Mahal Cannot Wrestle & Is Not A Worthy Champion

27

Jinder Mahal certainly has not been the most popular WWE Champion of all-time. Mahal won the WWE Championship on May 21st at Backlash. Since then, he has been able to hold onto the title with a ton of assistance from the Singh Brothers. Mahal defeated Shinsuke Nakamura at WWE SummerSlam by planting him with a Khallas after Samir and Sunil Singh interfered in the match. Mahal will once again have to defend his title against Nakamura next month, but this time surrounded by steel at WWE Hell in a Cell.

John Cena Sr. was a guest on Boston Wrestling Sports’ Wrestling Insiders show. During the interview, Cena Sr. was asked about Mahal as WWE Champion. Cena Sr. responded with the following:

“I do not think he is a good champion. I don’t think he is a worthy champion. I think they need to get somebody in there that can get people involved in the championship matches. I don’t think that he is the man for the job. The fans are going to get pretty tired pretty fast. They didn’t like Mahal to begin with and not because he is a good heel, it is because he cannot wrestle.”

Host of the show, Dan Mirade, compared Mahal’s reign to JBL’s title reign leading up until WrestleMania 21. Mirade stated that it has been a comparable run because it took some time for fans to warm up to JBL. However, fans wound up getting into it and every time he worked with a new babyface, the fans thought that this would finally be the guy to defeat him. Mirade believes that we are going to see the same thing with Mahal going forward. The fans will continue to think that someone is going to take the title from him, but Mahal will wind up holding it for a long time.

Cena Sr. didn’t like that take and stated that Mahal “wasn’t even close” to JBL.  He went on to say that Mahal is only champion to capture the Indian market and isn’t on JBL’s level as a performer. Cena Sr. also claimed that it is too early for Shinsuke Nakamura to win the WWE Championship. Mirade said that sometimes he has trouble understanding Nakamura and Cena Sr. suggested that WWE bring back managers to help wrestlers like Nakamura connect with the crowd. Daniel Bryan Says WWE Banned Recent Footage Of Him Bumping In The Ring

14

SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan is determined to wrestle again and recently did some limited training in the ring along with his wife Brie. Bryan was forced into retirement last year due to a series of concussions. While Bryan received the go-ahead to wrestle again from doctors he visited privately, WWE refused to give him medical clearance, effectively ending his in-ring career for the foreseeable future.

During a recent Youtube Q&A session to promote their E! Network reality show Total Bellas, a fan asked Brie Bella why she didn’t upload video of her training for her own in-ring return, which she had promised upon reaching 800,000 YouTube subscribers.

It turns out that Brie actually did film a video of her training for a WWE return, but the company prohibited her from posting it. “I actually did do some [training] and they weren’t allowed to be shown. I did what everyone asked, I did it for 800,000 (Youtube followers), and it wasn’t allowed to be aired.”

Her husband Daniel Bryan then revealed why the video was not allowed to be released: it included footage of him taking a bump in the ring. Bryan has been helping Brie train and the video in question contained footage of Brie giving Bryan a drop kick off the second rope.

“Because they’re not allowed to show me doing anything wrestling-wise,” Bryan said.

This is an interesting admission by the former WWE Champion and shows the lengths WWE has gone to distance themselves from the uncertainty regarding Bryan’s health.

During a recent appearance on the E&C Pod of Awesomeness podcast, Bryan explained to Edge and Christian that the initial diagnoses that led to his retirement was incorrect and vowed to wrestle again. “There’s no reason why I can’t return to doing what I love,” he said, before saying he’s like to work a light schedule if he returns, wrestling about 50-100 matches every year.

The Bella Twins appeared on Barstool Sports’ From the Top Rope podcast last month, Brie said she’s convinced Bryan hasn’t wrestled his last match. “I told Bryan, ‘You do have a daughter, so always remember that. But if the doctors finally give you the green light,’ I go, ‘Go! This is your dream and passion. You have one life to live and I will never hold you back.”

Brie continued, “Because I love to wrestle, and I would hate if someone told me you can’t do it. And if WWE doesn’t allow it, then I said, ‘Go somewhere else. It’s all on you.’ Obviously he would love to be able to get back in that WWE ring, but I know for a fact my husband is going to find his way back to the ring. He honestly is.”

Cody & Brandi Rhodes Comment On WWE Starrcade

15

On Monday, WWE announced the return of Starrcade, the annual NWA/WCW pay-per-view that ran from 1983-2000. WWE Starrcade will be a special SmackDown live event held on Saturday, November 25th from the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina.

The main event of the first Starrcade, which was held at the Greensboro Coliseum, featured Ric Flair vs. Harley Race inside a steel cage. As an homage to the first Starrcade, WWE Starrcade will feature two steel cage matches as well as appearances by NWA legends the Rock ‘n Roll Express and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat.

Cody and Brandi Rhodes have since reacted to the news of WWE reviving Starrcade, an event created by the late “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. Cody has requested that WWE book his brother Goldust for the show, while Brandi took offense to the fact that WWE waited until Dusty passed before holding a Starrcade event and have yet to credit him for his contribution.

As noted earlier, WWE is reportedly considering bringing back several WCW-branded PPV events (More Details).
