Kurt Angle Wants Asuka on RAW

5

Kurt Angle sat down with Spanish-language media outlet Planeta Wrestling recently, to promote his involvement in the WWE 2k18 video game. Angle spoke on several issues, including the possibility of NXT women’s champion Asuka being called up to the Raw brand.

Asuka has recently mentioned through social media, that she will not be returning to NXT until suitable competition is found. An opponent will most likely be found for Asuka in time for Takeover: Brooklyn III, but a main roster call-up could still happen for Asuka in the next few months.

Kurt Angle Interview Highlights

(transcript via Wrestling Inc.)

On NXT Superstars he wants on RAW:

“Oh gosh, I really like that Asuka girl. I’m telling you, the girls have really come on strong. Watching her, I know she’s gonna make a huge impact when she comes up, and I really hope we get her on RAW.

On WWE Developmental:

“I think Triple H and the WWE have done an incredible job with NXT. They’re grooming these talents, they’re become stars before they even get on TV on RAW and SmackDown. Wow, that’s never happened before. You have to give credit to how they’ve been able to produce them. Whether they get them from theatre programs or independents, they bring them to NXT and they groom them. They get them ready for TV and it’s amazing how many talents are coming through NXT. That’ll continue to be their staple. that’s gonna be the way it goes and I like it. I like what they’re teaching them down there. And it’s not just the wrestling, it’s the persona, working on cutting promos, entrance themes – I mean you look at these entrances now: Finn Balor, Nakamura, Bayley, they’re just different now and larger than life. I really think the WWE has caught onto something really cool. Fans like the entrances just as much if not more than the matches, yes it’s true. So they’re on to something and I enjoy seeing it.”

On How Much Different WWE is Now From His Previous Stint:

“It’s different now, but in many good ways. The drug policy, the wellness policy, the way they cater to the athletes – it’s a lot of fun to be back. I wanted to come back – Bill Goldberg said last year, he spoke about him returning to WWE. It wasn’t about him, it was about his kids. I have three little ones that actually never have seen me wrestle. A six-year-old, four-year-old, and seven-month-old. And not only that, but I owed it to the WWE Universe to come back and end my career here, where I started it. A lot of fans have been asking for that for many years. So it isn’t about me coming back, it isn’t about me making money, it’s about the WWE Universe, the fans, and my kids that never watched me wrestle. I wanted them to see their dad and the light that my two older children have and the light that the rest of my family have. So it’s really not about me, it’s about them and I want to show them what daddy really can do.”

VIDEO: Kazuchika Okada Seen Leaving RAW Taping

13

The rumor mill is about to go into overload….

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada was seen leaving the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona last night after a taping of RAW. Okada had been in the United States for New Japan’s recent G1 Specials tapings in Long Beach.

Okada has stated many times that he has no intention of leaving New Japan for the WWE and that he plans on bringing the NJPW style to the United States. The most likely outcome of his appearance is to see some friends backstage, but with the way that the wrestling world has been in 2017 there is bound to be some speculation on the future of NJPW’s newest Ace.

What do you think? Is there more to this story than meets the eye? Let us know in the comments.

WWE RAW Recap & Reaction (7/3)

16

Enzo Amore cut a promo to kick off this week’s episode of RAW. Enzo discussed his upcoming match with Big Cass at Great Balls of Fire. During the promo, Enzo once again took a shot at Conor McGregor. Enzo claimed that Cass is nothing but a “7 foot catchphrase that he wrote”. Enzo stated that he and Cass were brothers but that is over now.

Big Cass is then interviewed backstage. Cass claimed that Enzo will no longer be able to walk the walk because after Sunday he won’t be able to walk at all. Enzo then attacked Big Cass from behind and beat him down. Security eventually was able to separate Enzo and Cass.

Reaction: Enzo cut another great promo here. I don’t see any other outcome besides Cass absolutely destroying Enzo at Great Balls of Fire.

Sasha Banks & Bayley vs Alexa Bliss & Nia Jax

Nia dominated Bayley to start off the match. Sasha was tagged in and she was able to knock Nia out of the ring. Nia then knocked Bayley off the ring apron and threw her into the barricade outside the ring as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Banks was isolated in the ring and Bliss was beating her down. Nia was tagged in and connected with a Backbreaker for a two count. Jax then locked in the Bear Hug. Banks was able to get out of it but Nia launched her into the turnbuckle. Bliss was tagged in and Banks dropped her with a running knee. Sasha then knocked Nia off the ring apron and applied the Bank Statement to Bliss for the victory.

Winners: Sasha Banks & Bayley

Reaction: Sasha Banks pretty much defeated Bliss and Jax on her own tonight. Bayley was useless in this match and WWE has seemingly completely given up on her. Banks has all the momentum in the world heading into her RAW Women’s Championship match at Great Balls of Fire this Sunday.

RAW GM Kurt Angle was shown backstage on his phone. Braun Strowman showed up and asked Angle if Reigns was going to be able to compete in their match at Great Balls of Fire. Angle said that he has heard that Reigns will be ready for the match and Strowman didn’t believe him. Strowman demanded competition and Angle claimed that he doesn’t know if anyone backstage wants to fight Strowman this close to a PPV. Strowman stated that he will be heading to the ring later and that Angle better find an opponent for him.

Noam Dar vs Cedric Alexander

Alicia Fox accompanied Dar to the ring and she was wearing a neck brace. The match started and Fox was trash-talking Alexander right away. It didn’t matter at all, as Alexander won this match very quickly with a Lumbar Check. After the match, Fox ripped off her neck brace and threw a fit.

Winner: Cedric Alexander

Reaction: Have these matches helped Noam Dar or Cedric Alexander at all? Have three minute Cruiserweight matches inspired any of you to tune into 205 Live every week? Has anyone become a Noam Dar fan because of his “relationship” with Alicia Fox? I don’t understand why these useless matches are happening on a weekly basis. It is simply not accomplishing anything. Fox, Dar and Alexander are all way more talented than they are allowed to show on RAW and 205 Live every week.

Miz TV

Miz started off the episode by saying that Lonzo Ball will be the biggest flop in NBA history. Miz then turned his attention to Dean Ambrose. The Miz claimed that Ambrose was supposed to be the next Roddy Piper but has completely folded under the pressure. The Miz then called Ambrose a joke and Dean Ambrose interrupted.

Ambrose demanded his Intercontinental Championship rematch tonight. Heath Slater then joined the party and said that he was the last person to pin The Miz and that he wants a shot at the title. Slater stated that he has been in WWE for 8 years and has never gotten any shots at singles titles. Slater brought up his kids and claimed that he needed this opportunity for them. Ambrose told Slater that he loved him, but said that he has to get in the back of the line like everyone else.

Miz spoke up and told both Ambrose and Slater to shut up. The Miz informed Ambrose that he will get his rematch whenever The Miz feels like it. The Miz then mocked the crowd and Heath Slater. The Miz stated that Slater won’t be getting his shot at the title tonight because he has a July 4th party to attend.

RAW GM Kurt Angle then came down to the entrance ramp. Angle stated that he is the one that decides when The Miz competes. Miz agreed to defend his Intercontinental Championship on Sunday at the Great Balls of Fire PPV. Angle then booked a title match between The Miz and Dean Ambrose at the PPV. Angle then announced that The Miz would defend his title against Heath Slater tonight.

Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz (c) vs Heath Slater

Rhyno, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas and Maryse are all ringside for this match. The Miz is not in his wrestling gear and was completely unprepared for this match. Slater controlled the match early and continually knocked Miz to the mat. RAW went to a commercial break with Slater in control.

When RAW returned, Miz had captured control of the match. The Miz has comically split his pants. Miz connected with a DDT for a two count. Axel hopped up on the ring apron to try and distract the referee but Rhyno dragged him down. Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel then started to beatdown Rhyno ringside. Slater was distracted by this and The Miz capitalized and hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the victory.

After the match, Miz, Dallas and Axel started to attack Heath Slater. Dean Ambrose came down to the ring and almost connected with the Dirty Deeds on The Miz. Dallas and Axel then beatdown Ambrose as The Miz watched. Miz then planted Ambrose with the Skull Crushing Finale. Maryse and Miz then shared a kiss as the segment ended.

Winner & Still Intercontinental Champion: The Miz

Reaction: Miz TV and the title match were pretty entertaining. I am done with the feud between Ambrose and The Miz though. I hope it is finally over after their match at Great Balls of Fire. I’d prefer that the Intercontinental Championship stay with The Miz, rather than Ambrose capturing it on Sunday. I think Ambrose needs to reinvent himself or go away for a bit. I’ve completely lost interest in his character and don’t feel like sitting through another boring Ambrose title reign.

Goldust was shown sitting in a director’s chair in the middle of the ring. Goldust thanked all of “the little people”, in reference to his fans in the crowd. Goldust then called R-Truth naive and jealous. Goldust then presented The Shattered Truth film, which was just him attacking R-Truth. R-Truth then showed up behind Goldust after the film ended and beat him down.

Kurt Angle was once again shown on his phone backstage. Cesaro and Sheamus show up and Angle informed them that he has made their RAW Tag Team Championship match against The Hardys at Great Balls of Fire a 30-minute Iron Man match. Sheamus said that was the best decision Angle has made since returning to WWE. Cesaro said that he wanted a rematch against Finn Balor. Angle then took a phone call and told Cesaro to be careful what he wished for.

Seth Rollins vs Curt Hawkins

Rollins defeated Hawkins with a knee to the face in a matter of seconds. After the match, Rollins cuts a promo on Bray Wyatt and their match this Sunday at Great Balls of Fire. Rollins once again called Wyatt a coward during the promo.

Winner: Seth Rollins

Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar were interviewed by Michael Cole. Cole conducted the interview from the announce table as Lesnar and Joe were in separate rooms backstage. Joe immediately interrupts Cole and started arguing with Lesnar. Brock claimed that he was going to win the match on Sunday and that Joe will get nothing. Lesnar called Joe a coward for attack him from behind last week. Joe laughed and said that it was humorous that Lesnar claimed to not fear him as they were being separated tonight. Lesnar stated that they were being separated for Joe’s own safety. Joe winds up taking off his microphone and goes looking for Lesnar backstage. Joe finds the room where Lesnar and Heyman are. Joe was flipping out as security dragged him away.

Reaction: I was already completely sold on this match. This was just an alright segment as nothing really happened. I will say that I like how Joe isn’t backing down from Lesnar. I’m not expecting Joe to defeat Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire. I just think if it is a competitive match and lasts a decent amount of time, it will substantially increase Joe’s popularity. He has already made himself a lot of new fans during this feud.

Neville vs Mustafa Ali

This match started out back and forth. Ali planted Neville with an impressive Tornado DDT for a two count. Ali set up for the inverted 450 Splash but Neville got to his feet and shoved Ali off the turnbuckle. Neville took control and beatdown Ali for several minutes. Corey Graves stated that the referee should call the match because Ali doesn’t seem to be able to defend himself. Ali then finally fought back but Neville planted him with a Clothesline. Neville then applied the Rings of Saturn and Ali quickly submitted.

Winner: Neville

Bray Wyatt cut a promo from the desert. Wyatt claimed that “his fire has been burning out of control since he came to RAW”. Wyatt also said that he has reduced The Beast to a “mere mortal”. Wyatt stated that he was everywhere and that he is a god. Wyatt claimed that Rollins will not go blind on Sunday but for the first time Rollins will see and it will burn.

Reaction: I do not care about this match at all. I honestly completely forgot it was on the card. WWE seems to put a lot of effort into Wyatt’s promos and seem to completely neglect everything else about his character.

Finn Balor vs Cesaro

The Hardys joined commentary for this match. The match started out back and forth and eventually Elias Samson came down to the ring. Samson tripped up Balor and The Hardys stormed the ring. Chaos broke out and everyone started brawling outside the ring. Balor got Cesaro back in the ring and connected with the Coupe de Grace for the victory.

Winner: Finn Balor

Braun Strowman came down to the ring and cut a promo. An ambulance backed in next to the stage as Strowman bragged about his attack on Roman Reigns last week on RAW. Braun stated that Reigns isn’t at RAW tonight, but he still wants competition. Strowman demanded that RAW GM Kurt Angle send him out an opponent right now.

Apollo Crews vs Braun Strowman

Crews got in some offense early, but eventually just got his ass kicked. Crews went for a standing Moonsault but Strowman got his feet up and booted him across the ring. Strowman then connected with two Running Powerslams for the victory.

After the match, Strowman beatdown Crews some more and Titus O’Neil started shouting at Strowman. Braun challenged him to get in the ring and O’Neil did. Strowman then Clotheslined Titus and turned his attention back to Crews. Strowman brought Crews over the to the ambulance next to the stage and put Crews in the back of it.

Strowman slammed on the back of the ambulance several times but it didn’t drive away. Strowman became confused by this and went to the front of the ambulance. Strowman opened the driver’s side door and Reigns popped out and punched Braun in the face. Roman and Braun traded punches for a bit and Reigns got the upper-hand. Reigns then connected with a Spear that sent the two Superstars off the stage and through a table next to the stage. A replay was shown and RAW went off the air with Strowman already back to his feet as Reigns sat in disbelief on the stage.

Reaction: RAW was decent tonight. I will say that I am really looking forward to Sunday’s PPV. There are now four matches I’m legitimately interested in. I simply cannot wait for the Universal Championship match between Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar. I am also looking forward to the RAW Women’s Championship match between Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks. I think the build to the ambulance match between Strowman and Reigns has been awesome. I think that match might wind up stealing the show at Great Balls of Fire. Now that it is a 30 minute Iron Man match, I’m also now much more excited for the RAW Tag Team Championship match this Sunday. I feel like WWE needs to hit this PPV out of the park on Sunday. There weekly programming has mediocre for some time now and they could use a great show to get fans energized again.

Miz said Ambrose was going to be the next Roddy Piper and be a big star, but instead he failed because he can’t handle success. Miz says Ambrose can tell jokes and laugh all he wants, but Ambrose will end up being the biggest joke of them all. Ambrose has heard enough and he comes out to interrupt. Ambrose says he was hoping after last week they’d never see another Miz TV, but here they are. Ambrose refers to Axel and Dallas as Miz’ bodyguards, and says he might come down and whoop his ass anyways despite the bodyguards. Ambrose heads towards the ring, but before he gets there Heath Slater and Rhyno come out. Slater says the last man to beat Miz was Slater, and he wants a shot at the Intercontinental Title after being in the company for 8 years. Slater says he’s got kids, and he’s earned this opportunity for his kids. Ambrose says he loves Slater, but that he’ll have to get to the back of the line. Angle says he’s the one who decides when Miz competes. Miz tells Angle to go talk to Corey Graves about his personal problems, and Angle tells him to watch his mouth. Miz says he’ll do Kurt a favor and defend his IC Title at Great Balls of Fire on Sunday. Angle says Miz will have to defend the IC Title against both Slater and Ambrose. He’ll face Ambrose on Sunday, but he’ll face Slater right now an the title will be on the line. “It’s true, it’s damn true!”

Joe says he’s beaten down Lesnar every week, along with Heyman, and Lesnar has done nothing. They briefly trade words before Joe mentions that he’s quarantined off in a separate part of the building while Lesnar is somewhere else. Lesnar says he’s beaten The Rock and others, but Joe goes down a list of his victims including Reigns and AJ Styles. Joe says he wants to stop playing around and do this now, then he rips off his mic and leaves. Heyman tells Lesnar that Joe is coming to find them, but Lesnar isn’t worried about it. Joe starts storming through the back of the arena and shoving aside anyone who gets in his way. Kurt Angle tries to calm Joe down, but Joe finds the room Lesnar is in and throws the door open. He says he’s Bray Wyatt and he is everywhere. He asks if Rollins can hear him. He says he’s the wrath that consumes Rollins, and he can’t be touched but can be felt by all. Wyatt tells Rollins that on Sunday he will look into the eyes of a god, and for the first time he will see.

– We cut back to the arena, where Alexa Bliss does an interview backstage. Bliss says she’s not worried about Sunday, because she let Sasha win to give her a false sense of security. The interviewer says no one believes Bliss let her win, and Bliss tells her no one cares what she thinks. Bliss says that’s why the interviewer is holding the mic, and why Bliss is holding the RAW Women’s Title and still will be after Sunday.

Finn Balor def. Cesaro: Before the match, The Hardy Boyz’ music hits and they join the commentary table. Balor drops Cesaro with a dropkick to the knees, then hits a series of kicks. Balor continues the offense until Cesaro drops him with a clothesline then puts him in an armbar. Balor comes back with a dropkick and some chops to the chest. Sheamus distracts Balor from ringside, which leads to Cesaro dropping Balor in the corner and stomping on him. Balor fires up with some elbows to the face and a dropkick. Cesaro rolls outside and Balor dropkicks him through the ropes, then kicks him in the face form the apron. “Absolutely delightful!” Back in the ring, Balor hits the Sling Blade on Cesaro. Balor gets distracted by Elias Samson coming down the ramp, which allows Cesaro to uppercut Balor. Cesaro follows up with more uppercuts, but Balor drops him with a kick to the head. Samson trips Balor behind the ref’s back, which the Hardy Boyz don’t like. Matt and Jeff go down to ringside and start brawling with Samson and Sheamus. Balor throws Cesaro outside, then hits a suicide dive onto the heels at ringside. Matt hits the Twist of Fate on Samson, then Sheamus boots Matt in the face, and Jeff hits flying clothesline on Sheamus, then Cesaro uppercuts Jeff. Balor dropkicks Cesaro into the fan barricade, then takes Cesaro into the ring for the Coup De Grace for the win.

– Braun Strowman is backstage getting ready to come out to the ring.

– The ambulance pulls up beside the ramp, and Strowman makes his entrance to the ring. Strowman gets on the mic and says there are few things in life he enjoys more than hurting Roman Reigns. Strowman says Reigns is too dumb to know when to quit, and if he shows up on Sunday he’ll be leaving in the ambulance. Strowman says he knows Reigns isn’t here tonight, and he wants Kurt Angle to send out his opponent for tonight. Titus O’Neil’s music hits, and Titus comes out in a suit. Titus tells Strowman that everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. Titus says on most nights he would come down and slap the taste out of Strowman’s mouth, but tonight is a Titus Worldwide special occasion. Titus says Apollo Crews is going to prove tonight that monsters can be beaten.

Braun Strowman def. Apollo Crews: Crews ducks a clothesline from Strowman and throws some right hands at him. Braun shoves him off, and Crews uses his quickness to avoid taking strikes from Strowan. Strowman throws Crews off the ropes and boots him in the face, and Crews is down. Strowman throws Crews outside, and Crews rolls back in the ring at the ref’s 8 count. Strowman grabs Crews in a headlock and hits him in the chest a few times. Crews fights up to his feet, but Strowman drops him again with another shot to the chest. Strowman throws Crews outside again, and Titus gives Crews some words of encouragement. Crews gets on the apron and slaps Strowman across the face, then pulls Strowman’s neck on the top rope. Crews hits a series of kicks on Strowman and gets him down to his knees. Crews kicks Strowman down on his back, then Crews attempts a standing moonsault but Strowman blocks it with his feet. Strowman follows up with the running powerslam and pins, but Strowman gets up at 2 to continue punishing Crews. Strowman hits a second running powerslam, and once again declines to pin Crews for the finish. Strowman appears to lick Crews’ head, then powerslams him again for the win.

– After the match, Strowman goes for another powerslam but Titus pulls Crews off of him. Titus gets in the ring and tells Strowman to back off. Titus throws some right hands at Strowman, but Strowman drops him with a clothesline. Strowman follows up with a powerslam on Titus, then Strowman pulls Apollo Crews out to ringside. Strowman takes Crews into the crowd and over to the ambulance by the ramp. Strowman opens the ambulance doors and throws in Crews, then closes the doors. Strowman starts to walk away, but the ambulance doesn’t leave. Strowman goes to talk to the driver, but Roman Reigns jumps out of the drivers seat and beats on Strowman. Strowman throws Reigns into the ambulance then throws him up onto the stage. Strowman climbs up on the stage and punches Strowman, then throws him into the screens on the stage. Reigns then spears Strowman off the stage through a table. Agents and referees come out to check on them and Reigns rolls back on the stage. Strowman is already up to his feet, and RAW goes off the air with both men feeling the effects of the spear off the stage.

Booker T Not Happy With New Day’s Parody of His N-Bomb Botch

26

We all know that LaMelo Ball dropped a few ‘N-bombs’ during his appearance on Monday Night RAW alongside brother Lonzo and father LaVar, however, this is definitely not the first time we’ve heard the word on WWE programing. One of the most famous instances involved WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T, who cut a promo on Hulk Hogan backstage before accidentally saying “Hulk Hogan! We coming for you n****”.

During last week’s episode of SmackDown Live, The New Day decided to parody this with Big E saying “Listen up and put this flava in your ear. We want that gold sucka and at Battleground, we comin’ for you…” – right before getting cut off by Xavier Woods. Booker T took to his podcast, Heated Conversations, and expressed his displeasure for The New Day’s segment:

“I just want to make it publicly known that I don’t condone that at all especially coming off of Monday Night. We as a people, we gotta know when it’s time to speak up and when it’s time to shut up. My mother taught me that a long time ago. If you don’t know, it’ll come back and haunt you. [The WCW promo blooper] has haunted me for this many years. You put yourself in a situation for something to happen, just like Mike Tyson did, something can happen. For these young kids to understand and realize and be able to speak up for themselves…you know…then again, I spoke up because I was talent.

“I spoke up because I knew that I could speak up. I implore these young people out there to know exactly what they’re doing and how they are affecting our young people that are coming up. That’s the most important thing as far as I’m concerned. Me personally, I know I’ve made mistakes. That word that I said on national television in front of the world – I wish I could go back and erase it. I wish that I could take it back. I wish that WWE would never do something like that ever again.”

“Me personally, I don’t appreciate it. I don’t know if [WWE] knew that the parody was gonna go down because I know those guys do a lot of their own stuff. I don’t think that we as a company need to go that route. I think that parody should not have ever been shown on television because it wasn’t a great moment for us as black people. For us as black people, it was one of our worst moments. Just like the [Lamelo] Ball thing. The kid is 15-years old [and] I don’t blame him or anything like that. It was something that slipped out just like myself [in 1997], it was something that slipped out. For me as a person that’s trying to set an example for us as black people and for me to let so many people down – even the ones that thought it was the cool – even the ones that thought it was an anthem…

“…I want them to know that it was my worst day that I could have ever had being a black man and letting so many of our people down by calling us that word or saying that word in any realm [or] any form was definitely not right by any means. I wish I could take it right back. That one blemish is the only thing they have over my head that they could put out there to try to make me look bad in any way shape, form, or fashion. Of course, I could put a spin on it… … but does that make it right? No, it doesn’t make it right. It’s still a stain, a blemish, a mark that no surgical procedure could ever repair. So I just want young people to know exactly what they’re saying and when they’re saying it.”

    • Omega brought out the V-Trigger knees and took control afterwards. He hit a cross-legged neckbreaker, dragon suplex, doctor-bomb, and several more knees.

IWGP US Championship Tournament (Semi-Final)
Tomohiro Ishii (CHAOS) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (Suzuki-Gun)

    • Zabre Jr hit a pele kick on Ishii’s arm early and then proceeded to work the limb the rest of the match.
    • ZSJ would lock in a submission on Ishii, and Ishii would counter with headbutts, chops, a superplex and various other power moves, but ZSJ would eventually get back on offence and lock in a submission. Ishii probably never got more than 1 move in a row.
    • Ishii went for a lariat but ZSJ grabbed his arm and locked in an armbar with a head scissors. Ishii made several attempts to get the ropes but was thwarted several times, as Zack pinned back his various limbs. Eventually Ishii just rolled his entire body into the ropes and got the break.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships
The Young Bucks © (Bullet Club) vs. Roppongi Vice (CHAOS)

  • Young Bucks have really been incorporating more sharpshooters into their offence lately.
  • They worked on Beretta’s back a good portion of the match, which would play into the finish.
  • They started the match by countering all of each other’s moves, and Josh and Ross played up how well the two teams know each other.
  • Later in the match Young Bucks hit More Bang For Your Buck for a nearfall.
  • Roppongi Vice got in quite a bit of offence as well. Beretta gave Nick Jackson a piledriver on the apron and then a running knee.
  • Roppongi Vice also countered two Meltzer Driver attempts by the Bucks.
  • Vice managed to hit Strong Zero, but Matt Jackson kicked out. Can’t say I’ve ever seen anyone kick out of that move before.
  • The Bucks would later give Rocky Romero a Meltzer Driver on the floor. Nick springboarded off the top rope into a corkscrew and got one hand on Romero as Matt brought him down with the tombstone piledriver.
  • This left Beretta all on his own, and he played the valiant wrestler trying to battle back against the odds. They super-kicked him once in the face, and then another to his injured back.
  • They then gave another Meltzer Driver to Romero, and wrapped both guys in sharpshooters. Romero tapped, giving the Bucks the win.

  • He challenged them to a tag title match along with his partner Rysuke Taguchi.
  • Ricochet also said he wanted to be at the show yesterday but “A certain underground fighting company are being pricks right now”
  • Roppongi Vice then broke up! Romero cut a promo, saying the team had achieved all they had set out for, and that it was time for Beretta to go up to the heavyweight division.
  • They hugged and the crowd chanted for them. Romero never said he was retiring, but said “he was done with it”, so his future is left a little vague.
  • They’d been together 3 years, won the jr tag titles on 4 occasions and won the super junior tag tournament.

Marty Scurll, Bad Luck Fale, Yujiro Takahashi and Cody (Bullet Club) vs. Will Ospreay, the Briscoes and Kazuchika Okada (CHAOS)

    • Ishii countered with a suplex and Omega rolled to the outside.
    • Ishii landed chops which took Omega over the guardrail.
    • The Young Bucks were distracting the ref which prevented him from counting both guys out.
    • Ishii threw Omega into several rows of seats and dragged him back towards the ring.
    • Omega countered a german suplex on the outside by landing on his feet, he then gave Ishii a suplex on the floor, then got back in the ring.
    • Ishii got back in the ring and took Omega down with a shoulder tackle, then chopped him in the corner for a bit.
    • Omega started to battle back but Ishii chopped him down again and gave him a snapmare and kick to the back.
    • Omega started to egg Ishii on to kick him just like Ishii had done earlier, then they traded chops several times.

    • Ishii hit a powerslam.
    • They exchanged shots for a bit when Omega hit a DDT and they both stayed down.
    • Omega hit his firemans takeover followed by a 2nd rope moonsault for a nearfall.
    • After that, Omega hit a dropkick to the knee followed by his jumping fameasser to a standing Ishii.
    • Ishii rolled to the outside and Omega hit him with a diving senton plancha on the outside, but he started holding his knee afterwards.
    • As the ref (Red Shoes) was tending to Omega, the Young Bucks set up their own “gimmick table”.
    • Omega bounced up to show his knee was fine, then hit his opponent with a flying dropkick to the back of the head. Then he hit him with a back elbow in the corner.
    • Omega landed strikes in the corner for a period, but this seemed to only make Ishii grow stronger.
    • Ishii fought back but came off the ropes right into a hurricanrana by Omega.
    • Omega then tried to put Ishii through the table. As he was trying to give him a dragon suplex through the table, Ishii held on by biting the top rope. Omega eventually gave him the move through the table and onto the floor however.
    • Once back in the ring, Omega went to give him a 1-Winged Angel, but Ishii countered into a DDT.
    • Ishii then hit a superplex from the top rope for a nearfall.
    • Omega started to battle back with V-Trigger knees and got a nearfall.
    • Omega then hit his own brainbuster onto Ishii for a near fall.
    • A few spots later, Ishii actually hit a 1-Winged Angel onto Omega for a nearfall.
    • After that Omega took control with V-Trigger knees, hit a cross-legged neckbreaker, a reverse hurricanrana and several more V-Triggers.
    • Omega finally hit the 1-Winged Angel and got the pin to become the inaugural IWGP US Champion.

Winner: Kenny Omega (inaugural IWGP US Champion)

  • After the match Omega was presented with the belt.
  • Cody entered the ring and ripped the belt away from him, but then gave it back and hugged him.
  • The rest of the Bullet Club also came out and they carried Omega on their shoulders in the ring .
  • Omega got on the mic and cut a promo thanking the fans. He said nobody in Japan believed this could be a success, and he said we’d sell out a bigger arena. Said they are coming back bigger and better next year.

Shinsuke Nakamura Appears at IMPACT/GFW Fan Fest

48

Shinsuke Nakamura appeared in a rather unlikely place this past weekend…

IMPACT Wrestling held a ‘fan fest’ show before their Slammiversary Pay Per View and the ‘King of Strong Style’ was in attendance. You can see the tweet below featuring Shinsuke, Pro Wrestling NOAH star Marufuji, Ishimori and former Team Canada manager Scott D’Amore.

Although it is patently obvious that Shinsuke was not looking for a new position at the rebranded Global Force Wrestling promotion, it is an odd move for him to make, although a man of his star power is unlikely to see any repercussions from this.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments

Inaugural IWGP United States Champion Crowned

24

NJPW officially crowned their first ever IWGP United States Champion during the second night of the G1 Specials.

Kenny Omega and Tomohiro Ishii had both advanced to the finals of the US Title Tournament and Kenny eventually won the belt using his patented ‘One Winged Angel’ finishing move.

This move by NJPW puts the entire G1 tournament into question. Omega had been the favourite for a second straight G1 tournament win and a third match against IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom show. It looks as though those plans will now be changed, likely with Tetsuya Naito getting the coveted briefcase at this summer’s G1 tournament.

Are you excited by Kenny’s win? Let us know in the comments.

– DeAngelo Williams and Moose are backstage getting ready to come out for their match.

DeAngelo Williams & Impact Grand Champion Moose vs. Chris Adonis & Eli Drake: Moose starts off against Chris and quickly takes control. Drake quickly tags in, and Drake says he wants Williams, so Moose tags in Williams. Willliams and Drake lock up and Drake gets him in a headlock. Williams gets Drake in a hammerlock then tags in Moose. Moose hits a splash on Drake in the corner with Williams hits a running cannonball. Moose follows up with a running dropkick on Drake in the corner for a two count. Moose punches Adonis off the apron, and that distraction allows Drake to drop Moose from behind. Chris tags back in and hits a suplex on Moose for a one count. Adonis works over Moose until Moose gets the hot tag to Williams who cleans house. Williams drops Drake with a Samoan Drop then hits a standing moonsault for a two count. Williams continues the offense then hits a neckbreaker, but Chris breaks up the pin. Moose runs in and drops Chris then hits a senton drop on him. Williams hops on Moose’s back piggy-back style, then they hit a double senton drop on Masters. Drake throws Moose outside, and Drake and Adonis double team Williams. Williams fights back and dumps them both to the outside. Williams hits a baseball slide dropkick on Drake and Adonis at ringside, then Moose follows up with a moonsault off the turnbuckle onto Drake and Adonis at ringside. Moose and Williams grab a table and throw it in the ring. Adonis and Drake come back in the ring and drop Williams on the ring steps, then they hit a double team backbreaker/knee drop on Moose. Adonis and Drake set up the table then lay Moose on it. Drake goes up top but Williams knocks him off and Moose crawls off the table. Moose hits the big boot on Adonis, then lays Adonis on the table. Williams goes up top and hits a frogsplash on Adonis onto the table (which doesn’t break) for the win.

– EC3 does an interview backstage where he says James Storm has been the man in Impact for the last 15 years, and that’s why EC3 chose him to rip apart. EC3 says Storm is a man, but EC3 is the man.

EC3 vs. James Storm: This one is a strap match. Storm puts on his end of the strap immediately, and the referee eventually gets EC3 to put his on too. Storm starts off with a flurry of right hands that sends EC3 down into the corner. Storm continues to pummel on Carter with right hands, then he starts repeatedly whipping him across the back and chest with the strap. EC3 rolls outside where Storm hits a spinebuster into the ring apron. EC3 eventually comes back by using the strap, then takes Storm back in the ring where he chokes him with the strap. EC3 whips Storm across the back but Storm no-sells it and drops EC3 with a forearm shot. Storm follows up with a running beckbreaker and a kick to the head. Storm goes up top, but EC3 yanks him down to the mat with the strap. EC3 grabs a pair of handcuffs from under the ring and he tries to handcuff storm to the turnbuckle. Storm was playing possum and instead Storm cuffs EC3 to the top rope. EC3 starts begging, but eventually spits in Storms face then Storm whips EC3 across the back while he’s handcuffed. Storm gets up to well over 30 lashes across EC3’s back. The ref finally unlocks the handcuffs on EC3. Storm hits the One Percenter on EC3 for a two count. EC3 rolls outside and takes the strap off his wrist, then pulls the strap and causes Storm to crash into the ring post. Back in the ring, EC3 hits the One Percenter for a two count. EC3 and Storm start trading slaps to the face until Storm stops him with a big boot. Both men are down as Storm is still selling the ring post shot earlier. EC3 picks up a lifeless Storm then hits a variation of the Pedigree for the win. Medics check on Storm after the match and they help him to the back.

– Karen Jarrett is backstage with Dutch Mantel and they’re trying to figure out where Bruce Prichard is.

Steiner tees off on Park with right hands, but Park comes back with some punches of his own. Matthews cheap shots Park from behind, which leads to Steiner clotheslining Park then hitting an elbow drop. Matthews runs in and hits a suicide dive onto Park and Borash at ringside. Steiner rips apart the fan barricade and throws a part of it towards Borash and Park on the ramp. Borash and Park run backstage, and Steiner and Park follow. Matthews runs after them, but Steiner has a better idea. “Josh, lets get in the golf cart and run their fat asses over.” Steiner drives the golf cart with Borash riding shotgun, then Borash and Park blast them with fire extinguishers. A fan drives into the backstage arena and Steiner steals his SUV. They chase down Borash and Park in the stolen SUV all the way across Universal Studios to the hotel across the street. Borash back body drops Matthews into the pool, then Borash hits a Swanton Bomb onto Matthews in the pool. The two announcers fight underwater, while Steiner and Park fight in a parking area. Steiner throws Park through a door, then goes to look at Borash. We hear JAWS music, then get a special appearance by Shark Boy in the pool. Shark Boy bites Matthews and allows Borash to escape. Park regains consciousness only to see his old manager “The Sinister Minister” James Mitchell standing above him. Matthews and Steiner chase Borash back to the arena. Steiner and Matthews chase Borash down to ringside where they beat him down. They throw Borash in the ring and Matthews attempts a Swanton Bomb but misses. Low Ki starts selling his ankle, but it turns out he was playing possum as he throws the ref into Sonjay. The distraction allows Low Ki to hit a springboard kick to the face of Dutt for a two count. Low Ki lays Dutt on the ring steps and goes for the Warriors Way off the top rope, but Dutt moves out of the way. Low Ki is now selling his ankle again, and Dutt hits a springboard moonsault onto Low Ki that sends both men into the fan barricade. Back in the ring, Dutt puts Low Ki in a half Boston Crab. Low Ki gets out and hits the Warriors Way on Dutt. Low Ki goes for a Dragon Sleeper but Dutt reverses into a pin for the three count. Dutt and Low Ki each have one fall, so the next fall will determine the winner. Dutt and Low Ki trade strikes in the ring until Low Ki appears to have injured his hand throwing a punch. Dutt hits a series of elbows to the face, then a big boot. Dutt misses a splash in the corner, and Low Ki capitalizes with a running kick to the head. Low Ki hits a Michinouku Driver for a two count. Dutt comes back with a series of kicks then tosses Low Ki. Dutt hits a moonsault into a double foot stomp for the three count and the win to retain his X-Division Title.

Sienna def. Rosemary: This one will unify the GFW and Impact Wrestling Women’s Titles. Gail Kim comes out to the ring before the match and he holds up the two Championship Belts. Rosemary starts off in control with strikes. Rosemary hits a Russian leg sweep for a two count. Rosemary throws Sienna to the outside, where she gets into an argument with Laurel and her cousin. Rosemary takes advantage of the distraction with a splash off the top onto Sienna on the floor. Back in the ring, Sienna comes back with a suplex and a boot to the face. Sienne hits some more kicks until Rosemary comes back with a choke over the top rope. Rosemary takes Sienna up top and hits a German suplex down to the mat. Rosemary goes back up top and hits a missile dropkick. Rosemary hits a flying forearm shot in the corner, then a T-bone suplex. Rosemary misses a kick, and Sienna capitalizes with a splash in the corner. Rosemary comes back with a boot to the head of Sienna for a two count. Sierra starts to come back, but Rosemary shuts her down with the Red Wedding. Laurel runs in and pulls referee Earl Hebner out of the ring to distract him. Meanwhile in the ring, Sienna hits Rosemary in the head with the Title Belt. Hebner rolls back in the ring and counts, but Rosemary kicks out at 2. Rosemary goes for the mist, but Sienna blocks it. This leads to Sienna locking Rosemary in a variation of a guillotine choke for the win via submission.

– Jeremy Borash is in the ring (with his arms taped up due to the thumbtack spot earlier) and he introduces Impact Wrestling founder Jeff Jarrett. Double J comes out wearing a suit and Borash leaves. Jarrett talks about his family in the wrestling business, and he thanks everyone who has ever bought a ticket, pay-per-view, t-shirt, or even sent a Tweet. He tells Alberto El Patron and Bobby Lashley to bring their A-game tonight because he’ll be watching.

Alberto El Patron def. Bobby Lashley: Lashley is accompanied to the ring by other members of American Top Team. El Patron is accompanied by his father and brother. El Patron and King Mo almost get into it while JB is doing the ring introductions. Lashley spins around El Patron and hits a German suplex early on. El Patron gets Lashley in a hammer lock then hits a German suplex of his own. Lashley elbows El Patron away, then El Patron dumps Lashley outside. El Patron goes for a suicide plancha on Lashley, but Lashley catches him with an uppercut in mid-air. Lashley slams El Patron’s head into the announce table, then Dos Caras and King Mo get into it at ringside. Lashley continues beating down El Patron then hits a running powerslam onto the top of the steel ring steps. Lashley misses a spear and crashes into the ring post, then El Patron capitalizes with a DDT. El Patron boots Lashley in the face then hits a series of clotheslines. Lashley comes back with a spinning neckbreaker. Lashley goes up top but El Patron runs up and hits a superplex. El Patron hits a series of kicks, then mounts Lashley in the corner for some punches. Lashley grabs El Patron to stop the punches and powerbombs him down for a two count. El Patron puts Lashley in an arm bar, then hits a backstabber for a two count. Lashley rolls outside and El Patron goes for a suicide dive but misses. Back in the ring, Lashley works over Patron with punches. Patron comes back with an elbow to the face, then a tornado DDT into an armbreaker. Patron goes for the armbar, but Lashley lifts him up and powerbombs Patron down. Patron comes back with an armbreaker and a superkick for a two count. King Mo is seen grabbing a steel chair at ringside, which Dos Caras makes note of and backs him down. Patron gets in King Mo’s face and they shove each other. Lashley takes advantage of the distraction and executes a flying armbar on Patron. Patron fights out, but Lashley takes him right back down with a spear. Lashley goes for another spear, but Patron blocks it with a dropkick. Patron spears Lashley through the ropes and both men crash to the ringside floor. King Mo tries to get involved, so Dos Caras hits a low blow on him. Lashley shoves away Dos Caras, then throws Patron in the ring. Lashley goes back after Dos Caras and shoves him again. The distraction allows Patron to kick Lashley to the back of the head. Patron slams Lashley’s head into the ring post, then hits a double foot stomp for the win.

– After the match, Jeff Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt, and members of management come out to the stage and then the ring. Patron celebrates in the ring with them and his family. Patron holds up both the GFW and Impact World Titles in the corner, as Lashley is sitting down with a look of disappointment on his face. Patron shakes hands with Jeff Jarrett and then poses on the turnbuckle again Slammiversary goes off the air.

United States President Donald Trump recently relived his WrestleMania moment on Twitter.

Trump appeared at WrestleMania 23, and took part in an angle where he tackled and punched WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. On Sunday the President used the video footage as a visual aid in his feud with cable news network CNN. Trump tweeted the video clip from WrestleMania 23, except the CNN logo is pasted over McMahon’s head.

WrestleMania 23 featured a “hair vs. hair” angle between Trump and McMahon, and is the second highest-selling WrestleMania pay-per-view.

Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon is currently the Administrator of the Small Business Administration, under the Trump Administration.

Kurt Angle Says He Wants To Face Triple H, Speaks On Current WWE Backstage Atmosphere

15

In a recent press call to promote WWE 2K18, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle noted that he still has yet to begin medical evaluations for a return to the ring. When asked about who he would want to face if he did return to the WWE ring, Angle listed some names from his past along with some new faces that he would like to work with.

“There is talent I would like to revisit again like Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Randy Orton, Triple H, definitely,” Angle said. “When I wrestled Triple H last time I had just started. I didn’t consider myself very good back then. So I think we would have a much, much better match right now.

“I’d love to get Samoa Joe or AJ Styles in a WWE ring. Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Cesaro, Sheamus. Even some of the 205 guys like Austin Aries and Neville. There is a lot of great talent right now. I would love to be able to mix it up with them. Hopefully, eventually it will happen down the line.”

Angle last wrestled for WWE in 2006, and he says the company has improved how they cater to the talent since then, which leads to a happier roster.

“There are so many things they do now,” he said. “They have a masseuse there all day. Catering goes all day and night; not just one meal a day. It’s a better atmosphere for the talent, and I think that is a great thing. The atmosphere is great. The talent there is no negativity. Everyone wants to work together. It’s a good crew. I also have to say it’s one of the most talented crews I’ve ever seen.”

Angle added that he’s honored to follow in the footsteps of Goldberg, Sting, The Ultimate Warrior and others as the pre-order character for the new WWE video game.

WWE Tough Enough Winner Matt Cappotelli Undergoes Brain Surgery To Remove Tumor

8

WWE Tough Enough III winner Matt Cappotelli underwent brain surgery last Thursday to remove a large tumor. A portion in his brainstem was inoperable and Cappotelli is waiting for the pathology report to come back to determine what the next steps will be in his treatment. Cappotelli originally had the tumor removed in 2007 but it recently returned. The tumor and subsequent surgery prevented Cappotelli from joining WWE’s main roster, but WWE honored his contract until it expired in 2009. Cappotelli posted the following on Facebook:

“To give everyone the best update I can, here we go,” Cappotelli wrote. “The doctors said my surgery was very successful and they were able to accomplish exactly what they set out to do.”

“From start to finish the surgery took between 9 and 10 hours. I can’t tell you how much respect and love I have for the staff at Norton Brownsboro Hospital, you are all truly amazing people. As I stated before, there is still an inoperable portion of tumor in my brain stem that will have to be dealt with at a later time. The game plan for now is for me to get as healthy and rested as possible and wait on the pathology results to come back.”

“Once we have the pathology report in a few weeks, we will know what type of tumor we’re dealing with and how to attack the portion in my brain stem with the most effective treatment protocol. The fight will continue, this is just the next step . Thanks for all of your prayers, messages, and kind words, I LOVE YOU ALL”

  • IWGP Heavyweight Title Match
Kazuchika Okada (c)(CHAOS) vs. Cody (Bullet Club)

    • The crowd really did not like Cody Rhodes (although some fans would later chant for him), this despite his all-American apparel he had on. Brandi was wearing a USA flag dress.
    • The match started with some grappling and then each trying to hit a few signature moves but getting blocked or avoided.
    • Okada went on offence first, landing a running dropkick to a seated Cody.

    • Cody then hit a Disaster Kick for a near-fall.
    • Okada countered a 2nd Disaster Kick with a flapjack.
    • Okada then hit a side-slam neckbreaker combo that nobody ever refers to by a name. He then hit a flying elbow and called for the Rainmaker.
    • Cody countered the Rainmaker attempt by grabbing Okada’s leg and rolling into a modified calf-slicer. Okada would eventually get to the ropes.
    • They ended up in a slap and strike contest, which was won soundly by Okada. He eventually knocked Cody all the way down and stomped on his back several times. This brought Brandi to ringside.
    • Okada hit him in the back with a dropkick, then landed a tombstone piledriver and called again for the Rainmaker.
    • Cody countered the Rainmaker attempt again, this time by spitting at Okada.
    • Okada just wiped off the spit and hit him with a partial Rainmaker, then picked him up and hit him with another Rainmaker.
    • This brought Kenny Omega to ringside with a white towel, just like Cody did for his match with Okada in Osaka.
    • The Young Bucks tried to talk some sense into Omega, as he started encouraging Brandi to throw in the towel for Cody’s sake.
    • Cody then countered another Rainmaker but was eventually hit with yet another dropkick.
    • Cody then countered yet another Rainmaker with his own Rainmaker and got a near-fall.
    • Cody grabbed the towel, wiped off his sweat from it, then made a rude gesture with it, and threw it at Kenny. This caused Ross to state that there are clearly issues within Bullet Club.
    • Okada then countered Cody’s Cross Roads attempt with his own Cross Roads for a near fall.
    • Cody went for Cross Roads again but Okada countered with knees, so Cody hit him with a slam instead for another near-fall.
    • Cody went for the 1-winged angel but was countered by Okada into a German suplex.
    • Okada then hit a jumping spinning tombstone followed by one more Rainmaker for the pin.

Winner: Kazuchika Okada (7th Title Defence this Reign)

  • After the match Omega called for a mic as Okada was going to speak.
  • Omega said that he would not steal Okada’s moment, but said they have a date for a rematch in the G1.
  • Gedo then spoke english. He told the crowd that Okada is the future of strong-style.
  • Okada then spoke english and asked everyone how New Japan Pro Wrestling was? this got a big pop and the crowd chanted “New Japan! New Japan!”.
  • We then saw a backstage interview with Okada that was very loosely translated by Josh Barnett. Basically Okada said he underestimated Cody and complimented the American media.

Reby Sky Takes Shot at Lita on Twitter

31

Reby Sky is not someone shy to express an opinion.

It has been close to 13 years since Matt Hardy and Lita’s relationship ended in a rather public way. Despite the length of time the two have been separated, Reby Sky is evidently cautious towards the 42-year old Amy Dumas.

Reby Sky on Twitter

Reby Sky recently responded on Twitter to a person who is most likely still in elementary school. The Twitter user had tagged pictures of Matt Hardy with Jeff and Lita from their original WWE run along with pictures of Matt’s current family.

https://twitter.com/RebyHardy/status/881015072574685184

13 years is a long time, but evidently not long enough for Reby. Lita is currently set to call the Mae Young classic later this month, alongside Jim Ross.

Bruce Prichard Recalls The Time CM Punk Took A Shot Of Alcohol

13

CM Punk has made a point of telling people he is straight-edge for years, but evidently there are exceptions to that rule. According Bruce Prichard on the latest episode of his Something to Wrestle With podcast, Punk took a shot of alcohol out of respect to wrestling legend Harley Race, who offered it to him. The story can be heard below around the 19-minute mark.

https://youtu.be/oVoWl8U6fm8?t=18m20s

Prichard on Punk Taking a Shot

“He was in Kansas City or St. Louis or somewhere and it was Harley Race’s birthday and he was in a camp; Harley’s camp, and they were out at a restaurant bar type thing”

“Everybody got shots for Harley’s birthday. Now Punk doesn’t drink, don’t do drugs, but he took a shot out of respect for Harley Race.”

“And he goes, ‘you know, Harley asked me to do it, one shot’s not gonna kill me. I’m not gonna go get hammered, I took a shot out of respect for Harley Race and for whatever reason I just thought that was cool. That just kinda showed the love and passion he had for the business and respect for the old-timers. He didn’t have to and it would have been fine.”

Award Winning Rapper to Moderate Usos vs. New Day Rap Battle

26

The Usos and New Day are scheduled for a rap battle against one another this week on Smackdown. Just to make sure the contest is moderated by a qualified judge, WWE is bringing in long-time wrestling fan, and international recording-artist, Wale.

Wale announced the news through social media last night:

https://twitter.com/wale/status/880930982362304514

WaleMania

For the last 3 years, Wale has been holding an event over WrestleMania weekend, aptly dubbed “WaleMania”. The event often involves a live Q&A podcast with several wrestling personalities, and the hosts of MLW Radio. The featured performance of the night however, is a performance from Wale himself.

In 2013, Wale’s hit “Lotus Flower Bomb” was nominated for a Grammy. In 2015, his video for “White Shoes” was nominated for Best Video With a Social Message by MTV. His track “Bad” was given the award for “Best Hip Hop Song of the Year” at the 2013 Soul Train Awards.

Jeff Jarrett on Slammiversary, Relationship with the Hardys, and more…

6

It’s been a big week for Jeff Jarrett. The man who helped create NWA: Total Non-Stop Action in 2002, has now reached a deal to rebrand the company into Global Force Wrestling. The promotion returns to PPV this Sunday.

Jarrett recently sat down with Sports Illustrated to speak on the upcoming PPV, the Hardys, and more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi32bKLPgO4

Jeff Jarrett Interview Highlights

On keeping a promotion’s roster fresh:

“The old saying is familiarity breeds contempt, so my philosophy is to refresh the roster. The brand took a lot of hits over the past 36 months, and the quickest way to rebrand is by bringing in new talent and giving new opportunities.”

On his relationship with the Hardys:

“My family and Jeff Hardy’s family have taken vacations together for several years, and Jeff’s been one of my best friends for a long time, but business is business.”

“Whether it’s a song you write or a television show or a movie or professional wrestling, there are three components to IP law. There is publishing, there are writers, and there are performers. The publisher is always the owner.

The discussions have really gotten twisted, but IP law is real simple. The publishers are the owners. I’ll leave it at that because I want to take the high road. I think very highly of Jeff, and I respect Matt Hardy’s ability, quite frankly, more than he ever will know, but business is business. I’m very happy for their success, and they’re kicking butt in WWE.”

On Slammiversary:

“I can tell you about the heavyweight title, the women’s match between Rosemary vs. Sienna, or the X-division match between Sonjay Dutt and Low Ki. We have a star from the NFL in DeAngelo Williams wrestling. From top to bottom, you will be thoroughly entertained by this show.”

On Expansion to India:

“We were the first wrestling organization to ever produce content on Indian soil, and that is something we’re very proud of. Airing on Spike in the U.K. is another milestone for us, and we got in our ratings from Africa, where there has been a constant, steady growth.”

Impact Wrestling Rebranding As Global Force Wrestling

52

Following this week’s new that Impact Wrestling parent company Anthem Sports and Entertainment is acquiring Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling brand, it’s been announced that the Impact Wrestling promotion is being rebranded as Global Force Wrestling.

Global Force Wrestling’s weekly show on Pop TV will retain the Impact name and company headquarters will remain in Nashville, Tennessse. Sunday’s Slammiversary show is being touted as another “re-launch” for the company.

Jeff Jarrett, founder of TNA/Impact and Global Force, spoke to Tennessean.com about the news. “We’re a global brand. We have partnerships in Mexico, Japan, other places. Collectively coming together, we’ve combined forces and basically the rebrand final touches happen at Slammiversary.”

Anthem Executive Vice President Ed Nordholm said, “One part of our international strategy is not just to take WWE-style ‘Impact’ and export it to other countries, but as well to more deeply penetrate those international markets in association with (wrestling) promotions that are centric to those markets. The (international promotions) want to tap into our expertise to boost those shows, but also to in turn boost the GFW content.”

The Miz Talks About The Ball Family’s Controversial RAW Appearance

7

WWE Intercontinental champion The Miz appeared on the Hard Hidz Wrestling Podcast this week to promote WWE’s ongoing overseas tour. During the discussion, Miz commented on Monday’s controversial edition of MizTV featuring LaVar, Lonzo and LaMelo Ball. The segment went off the rails when 15-year-old LaMelo used a racial slur twice on live television, which resulted in WWE immediately putting out a statement condemning Ball’s actions.

The Miz spoke about the situation in detail on Hard Hidz. “People are still talking about it. It’s all over all of our sports hubs in America are just talking nonstop about it. They want interviews with me and everything. You know, when you have, you know, celebrities and everything come on our show you know, sometimes things get a little crazy because you never know what they’re going to do, what they’re going to say. You know, it’s one of those situations where, you know, you have a script but sometimes they don’t follow that script.”

Miz is a big basketball fan, so he knows the Ball Family and was excited excited to be involved with their WWE RAW cameo. He had mainstream notoriety outside of WWE from his days as a reality television star and understands why WWE brings in celebrities for special appearances.

“We have thousands of our fans who are diehards who just want to see us, WWE Superstars. They don’t want to see celebrities but we also have to cater to everyone. You know what I mean? We want more people to love WWE and to love our product so we bring, you know, outside celebrities in to help generate that because maybe they might not be diehard fans of LaVar Ball but there might be LaVar Ball fans out there who want to see what he’s going to do and now with all the attention we generated, maybe next week we’ll have more fans because of the people that were like, ‘Wow, you know what. I like that, I’m going to keep watching it now.’ So that’s kind of what it’s all about in my opinion.”

As reported earlier, Lana complained on Twitter a few days ago that he shoulders were not on the mat when she was pinned by Naomi on SmackDown.

Lana talked her way into a shot at Naomi’s SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank. She lost that match and then talked herself into a rematch on this past Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown. Lana lost that match as well, even after attacking Naomi from behind before the match started. Well, it appears that Lana has been able to once again talk herself into another shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan announced today on Twitter that he has reviewed the photo of Lana’s shoulder up during the pinfall and has come to a decision. Naomi will once again defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lana next Tuesday on SmackDown.
