Linda McMahon Comments on WWE Not Providing Health Insurance For Talents

31

Linda McMahon, the former WWE CEO and current administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, has been doing a ton of media work as of late because of her SBA Ignite Tour, where she has been meeting with plenty of small business owners throughout the country.

McMahon recently spoke to The Las Vegas Sun to talk about her time with the WWE and a variety of professional wrestling topics. Linda first discussed she and Vince’s decision to buy what is now known as WWE from his father, and not providing health insurance to its talents:

“Vince and I have always said that we had a great opportunity, but great opportunities can come and go if you don’t take advantage of them and seize them,” McMahon recalled. “Being in this particular industry is something that he always wanted to do from the time he was a little boy. It was in his blood.”

In his youth, Vince was an on-air personality for his father’s Capital Wrestling promotion and increased the company’s revenue with a variety of new ideas. He would eventually purchase the company from his father, however, the deal came with a twist. If Vince missed one of the four payments for the buyout, control would instantly be reverted back to Vince’s father:

“We were able to do it. By taking over the business ongoing and paying as you go with it, we did increase revenues through that time,” McMahon said. “So then we went from the Northeast and moved it across the country, and made it into first a national business and then a global business.”

Vince McMahon BBC 1985

Today, the WWE is the powerhouse of the professional wrestling industry but has been under heavy criticism for how they accommodate their talents. Due to the fact that the company treats its wrestlers as independent contractors, they do not provide their Superstars health insurance or retirement benefits:

“It’s such a complicated issue to try to give a succinct answer,” Linda said. “WWE went from having no insurance when Vince and I first got started — I remember when I walked into his office when we had 13 or maybe 14 employees, and I said, ‘Guess what? You now have health insurance.’ And he said, ‘Wow.’ I don’t think he realized he didn’t have it before.”

“The cost of health care has grown. We had a very young company, so there were a lot of babies being born, so we had some high expenses,” McMahon said while comparing today to her beginning years with WWE. “Eventually, we went to self-insuring except for catastrophic. We had health savings plans. We tried different ways to make sure that our employees had really great coverage that they weren’t paying too much out of pocket to try to keep those co-pays reasonable within guidelines.”

Linda then chimed in on her displeasure for the country’s current healthcare plan, Affordable Care Act (ACA), better known as Obama Care:

“There are some aspects of it that are good. I absolutely believe children should be able to stay on their parents’ policy, that there should be no pre-conditions that would prevent you from getting health care. So there are many parts of it that I think are really good.”

Vince McMahon

McMahon then commented on the current replacement plan in place for Obama care which just passed the House:

“I think it has some good points,” she said. “It will now get tweaked by the Senate, and I really do hope it can get pulled together because I think the tax savings that will be realized through the proposal that had been put in the House and the Senate, that does help to push our tax reform down the road.”

Jim Cornette “Remorseful” Over Vince Russo’s Restraining Order

13

Brian Last had a conversation with Jim Cornette about the Vince Russo situation and uploaded it to the Arcadian Vanguard YouTube channel. Cornette discussed Vince Russo serving him an Emergency Protection Order. The video starts off with Cornette describing the two officers coming to his house. Cornette claimed that he “popped” right in front of the officers when they informed him that Vince Russo had filed for a protective order against him. Cornette went on to say that his wife then joined him in sharing a laugh over the situation.

Cornette described the 9 page document that Russo filed and the boxes he checked off in the Emergency Protective Order. Jim Cornette sarcastically stated that he thought he and Russo were just “bros” doing podcasts. Cornette stated that he would never disobey a court order and that he will stop “stalking” (one of the boxes Russo checked) Vince Russo. According to Cornette, Russo accused Cornette of stalking him since 1999 in five different states in the EPO.

Cornette stated that he will make sure that he stays away from his house that he has never been to and he will stay away from Russo’s wife that he has not seen since 1997. Cornette then read from the document and vowed to never “commit acts of domestic or family violence, stalking or sex offenses against Vince Russo or his household members”.

Jim Cornette said that he felt horrible that Vince Russo was “laying awake at night and quivering” over the statements he made on his podcast. Russo filed for the EPO on the same day that Cornette jokingly admitted defeat after Russo issued his sarcastic apology video. Cornette claimed that dozens and dozens of people emailed him during that week with all Russo’s address and information.

Brian Last jokingly said that he guesses that Russo’s offer for Cornette to be on Vince’s podcast has been rescinded and Cornette stated that he doesn’t think that would even be legal now. Last also pointed out that Russo said that Cornette and Bischoff “don’t have the balls to say anything to his face” and then decided to file for the Emergency Protection Order. Cornette stated that these past few weeks have pretty much confirmed everything that everybody has said about Russo in the past. You can listen to the entire interview in the video below.

Cody Rhodes On If He Wants To Return To WWE, Advice He Received From Shawn Michaels

16

Cody Rhodes was recently interviewed by Channel Guide Magazine. Here are some highlights from the interview:

If he wants to return to WWE:

“I don’t want to sound negative but being part of history right now and this new era and new boom. I didn’t get that while in WWE. So currently there is no incentive for me to return to WWE. I’m making more money than I was with WWE. I’ve been in some unbelievable matchups. Two are coming up. I love WWE. Just currently there is no incentive. There are some things I would love to be a part of. I would love to be part of the Dusty tag team tournament. At the same time I don’t think I’m playing a revenge song here. I don’t think I’m ready to move out of the spot of where I’m at.”

Advice he received from Shawn Michaels:

“Shawn Michaels told me once that when someone asked, ‘Hey, how was my match?’ He answered them, but then said to me, ‘You know how your match was when you walk through the curtain. You know if it was awesome or if it wasn’t. You know because of how the audience reacted.’ It’s more about asking what you could have done differently. It’s made me really happy to play my music, my way.”

Being thankful for his time in WWE:

“They put me in the position I am in right now,” Rhodes said. “If they had held me back they wouldn’t have granted me my release. They allowed me to go in the wild and do what I’m doing now. My wife [Brandi] didn’t have the best WWE experience, but she always says that she is very thankful for having been there because she met her husband. For me, I met my wife, was in two singles matches at WrestleMania. I even got to rebrand the Intercontinental title. I did it all in the early parts of my career. It’s on record how I feel things should have gone in the end, but I don’t want to live in the past. You got to move forward.”

Rhodes also discussed the Bullet Club, Kenny Omega and other wrestling topics in the interview. You can check out the entire interview by clicking here.

Alberto: Lashley Match Will Be 1,000x Better Than Lesnar vs. Joe

27

Impact Wrestling returns to pay-per-view on Sunday, July 2nd with Slammiversary XV. It’s the company’s first Slammiversary event under the leadership of Anthem.

The main event will see a world title unification match between Impact Wrestling champion Bobby Lashley and Global Force champion Alberto El Patron. To promote the match, both men recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. Each man spoke about their strategies heading into the match and the current state of Impact Wrestling.

It was Alberto El Patron who had the most newsworthy quote of the interview, promising that his match against Lashley will be better than Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe’s upcoming match at Great Balls of Fire. Not just better, but a lot better.

“Our match is going to be a thousand times better,” said Patron in hard-sell mode. “I have deep respect for Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe, and I know they’ll give the fans an amazing match, but they’ll be limited by the politics in that company. That company won’t let one of them give one-hundred percent to the audience, they’re going to hold them back. Impact Wrestling says, ‘Here is the ring, go do your thing.’”

Alberto El Patron and Bobby Lashley are world class athletes deserving of headlining one of Impact’s biggest shows of the year. Whether or not they can deliver on these very high expectations remains to be seen.

Mae Young Classic: Tessa Blanchard & 4 Additional Participants Announced

0

On Thursday, WWE sent in word that five additional competitors have been announced for the upcoming Mae Young Classic Women’s tournament. Among the participants is Tessa Blanchard, daughter of WWE Hall of Famer and Four Horseman Tully Blanchard.

International powerhouses, Performance Center standouts and third-generation grappler named to Mae Young Classic

The anticipation for WWE’s inaugural Mae Young Classic continues to grow with the announcement of five more entrants into the tournament, as first reported by ESPN.com.

Third-generation wrestler Tessa Blanchard, hard-hitting veteran Abbey Laith, black-belt judoka Taynara Conti, international bruiser Jazzy Gabert and Great Khali protégé Kavita Devi are the latest additions to the Classic, which streams this summer, exclusively on WWE Network.

They will join Toni Storm, Princesa Sugehit, Lacey Evans and Sarah Logan, who were announced last week for the 32-woman tournament.

Twenty-one-year-old Tessa Blanchard, of Charlotte, N.C., may be new to the WWE Universe, but her last name isn’t. The daughter of WWE Hall of Famer and Four Horseman Tully Blanchard, granddaughter of wrestler-turned-promoter Joe Blanchard, and stepdaughter of NWA legend Magnum TA, Tessa decided to follow in the family trade after watching her father’s Hall of Fame induction in 2012.

Since her 2014 debut, Blanchard has competed across the globe, including in the U.K., China, Japan and the Maritimes (where she once wrestled 23 nights in a row). She has even garnered praise from The Rock, whom she worked with on the set of the movie “Fighting with My Family.”

Abbey Laith grew up admiring revolutionaries like Lita, Chyna and Ivory, but the WWE Performance Center standout — renowned for her strikes and suplexes — will have a chance to break new ground of her own in this summer’s Classic. Coming to wrestling with an extensive background in dance, particularly ballet, Laith began training for the ring while working toward a bachelor’s degree in dance education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Laith, who counts WWE Cruiserweight Drew Gulak as one of her original coaches, developed into wrestling royalty on the independent scene. She captured titles in SHIMMER Women Athletes and Shine Wrestling and became the only woman to hold the Chikara Grand Championship before joining the Performance Center earlier this year.

A newcomer to sports-entertainment, 22-year-old judo master Taynara Conti might be one of the Classic’s least-seasoned wrestlers inside the ring. However, the Performance Center recruit isn’t lacking world-class combat-sport experience.

Conti spent years honing her martial arts skills in her native Brazil, eventually being promoted to black belt in judo and blue belt in jiu-jitsu. She competed in the 2016 Olympic trials in judo, and though Conti narrowly missed the cut, her thunderous throws helped put her on the radar of WWE talent scouts. Having trained under WWE coaches since last October, Conti will get her first chance at The Mae Young Classic to show the world what happens when a decorated judoka enters the ring.

Representing Germany in the Classic is Jazzy Gabert, a muscle-packed, 6-foot-1 brawler who has wrestled internationally for more than 15 years. A strongwoman and professional MMA fighter outside the ring, the bruising Berliner has achieved her greatest success in Europe and Japan.

Gabert is a multi-time champion in Japan’s Stardom organization, and she is currently a women’s champion for groups in Germany and Switzerland. In MMA, she has fought under the banners of the Rizin Fighting Federation and IFO Europe.

Kavita Devi is a powerhouse student of former World Champion The Great Khali. Hailing from Jind, Haryana, India, the 5-foot-9 Devi is a top competitor in Khali’s Punjab-based organization, Continental Wrestling Entertainment. She gained the attention of WWE talent scouts at a tryout this past April in Dubai.

Devi was an accomplished kabaddi player in high school and is also a competitive powerlifter. In 2016, she won gold in the 75 kg weightlifting division at the South Asian Games. Inside the ring, Devi has racked up victories using a head-caving roundhouse kick.

Ellsworth Reacts To MITB Controversy, Full Titus O’Neil TEDx Talk Video

0

– James Ellsworth posted a message on Facebook discussing the controversy surrounding the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match finish. Ellsworth wrote:

“The WWE Universe is weird, they cheered me on so loud in St.Louis as I climbed the ladder and grabbed the #MITB Briefcase, doing Daniel Bryans signature Yes chant and everything, but than as I dropped it in my good friend Carmella’s hands the crying all over the world started, weird huh? #Duh”

As announced on SmackDown, Carmella has been stripped of the MITB contract and a Women’s Money in the Bank rematch is scheduled for next week’s show.

– Below is the full 19-minute video from Titus O’Neil’s recent TEDx Talk at UCLA.

Here’s the video description from YouTube:

Every day, things we do knowingly or unknowingly, affect others. Sometimes it’s a small effect, and sometimes it’s profound and causes a chain reaction. If you’re going to have an effect, why not make it a good one. What if we focused on that chain reaction, and used our innate talents and strengths to cause big changes for those that would benefit most. Using your strengths and convictions to inspire others, and to treat humans actually as humans.

A former football player for the University of Florida and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Thaddeus Bullard has become a fixture on WWE’s programming, including RAW and Smackdown, as WWE Superstar Titus O’Neil. Since his debut with WWE in 2012, O’Neil has made an impact both in and out of the ring as a business and family man, motivational speaker, youth counselor and coach. Bullard can often be found speaking to children in schools, visiting the elderly in assisted living facilities, and participating in a variety of charitable events in his community. In addition, he participates in WWE’s numerous community-giving platforms, including its Be a STAR anti-bullying campaign and initiatives to support literacy, the U.S. military, Special Olympics, and Susan G. Komen.

WWE has made another move aimed at breaking into the Indian market, announcing a new weekly TV show to be broadcast in Hindi.

The show will feature highlights from Raw and Smackdown, as well as a social media segment where fans can interact with hosts. The latter feature most likely related to the area’s high rate of social media interaction with WWE content.

WWE Network Adding Episodes of WWE’s ECW Reboot

14

WWE is planning to release the first 2 years worth of episodes of ECW’s relaunch. According to a report from WWE Network News, episodes from ECW which aired from 2006-2008 will be added to the Network shortly.

WWE’s ECW

WWE’s version of ECW was widely panned by fans of the original version. While the 2006 One Night Stand PPV was widely considered a success in terms of purchases and fan interest, the product flopped afterwards.

Rob Van Dam and Sabu would be arrested on marijuana possession charges not long after the re-launching. The incident resulted in WWE booking RVD to lose both the WWE and ECW world championships.

Following a disastrous December to Dismember PPV in late 2006, Paul Heyman and WWE parted ways. The brand continued downhill afterwards, and now you can relive it all on the WWE Network!

Lucha Underground 203E23

Boyle Heights, Los Angeles

  • The first scene of the show was Fenix arriving to the Temple. He met ring announcer Melissa Santos, and it was established the two are in a romantic relationship.
  • Marty “the Moth” watched from a distance in an insane and jealous manner.

1. Cueto Cup (1st Round)
Cage vs. Vinnie Massaro

  • Cage took off his murderous magical glove before the match started.
  • While Cage took most of the offence, Massaro got back into it with eye pokes and similar cheap manoeveurs.
  • While on offence Massaro spotted the glove and motioned towards it.
  • Cage cut him off before he could use it however, and then beat him with a Falcon Arrow/Brainbuster type move.
  • After the match, Cage put on the glove and beat Vinnie up with it, busting him wide open.

Winner: Cage

  • A promotional video for Johnny Mundo vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. is played, though we still don’t have an actual date for the match.

2. Cueto Cup (1st Round)
Marty “the Moth” Martinez (Moth Tribe) vs. Saltador (Rabbit Tribe)

  • Saltador is dressed in all checkers and uses a very trippy style, as all members of Rabbit tribe tend to do.
  • Marty won with a slam/codebreaker like move.

Winner: Marty Martinez

  • In the back, Paul London and another member of the Rabbit tribe get on their knees and bow to Mascarita Sagrada.
  • The Rabbit tribe say that now that Saltador is out of the tournament they are turning to Sagrada, apparently confusing him with a large rabbit. Sagrada just walks passed them.
  • In the back Marty is shown in a room full of pictures of Melissa Santos, when his sister, Mariposa, walks in.
  • Mariposa tells Marty that his infatuation with Santos has made him weak.

3. Cueto Cup (1st Round)
Pindar (Reptile Tribe) vs. Mascarita Sagrada

  • While Sagrada got in much of his offence, the size difference and frequent interference from Kobra Moon made the difference.
  • Pindar won with a modified power-bomb.

Winner: Pindar

4. Cueto Cup (1st Round)
Fenix vs. Mariposa (Moth Tribe)

  • If Mariposa had won this match she would have faced her own brother in the next round.
  • Fenix caught Mariposa going for a cross-body and turned it into the Fenix Driver for the pin.
  • After the match, Marty the Moth attacked Fenix, possibly because they meet next in the tournament, and possibly because Fenix is now with Melissa Santos.
  • Fenix ended up taking out both members of the Moth tribe, as Santos looked on impressed.

Winner: Fenix

Vince Russo Files Restraining Order Against Jim Cornette

24

Former WWE, WCW, and Impact Wrestling writer Vince Russo has filed a restraining order against former co-worker Jim Cornette. Russo and Cornette have a longstanding bitter feud that escalated in recent weeks.

The restraining order was filed on June 16th, one day after Jim Cornette’s response to Russo’s “apology” to him, which he used as a platform to hurl insults at Cornette. In this response, Cornette stated that he had a ‘surprise’ for Russo when he next saw him, which Russo apparently took at a threat.

Cornette received the order from local police at his home in Louisville, Kentucky on the evening of June 21st, and it decrees that Cornette must stay away from Russo, Russo’s wife, and also Russo’s home and place of employment. Upon receiving the order, Cornette posted the following photo on Twitter along with his comments.

SmackDown Draws Strong Viewership But Low Attendance

14

This week’s episode of SmackDown Live from Dayton, Ohio did 2.597 million viewers, way up from last week’s 2.072.

The show featured fallout from Money in the Bank, including Daniel Bryan returning to address the controversy surrounding the Women’s MITB match. The 25% jump in viewership makes it the most-watched episode of SmackDown since the Superstar Shakeup back in April.

Smackdown was #1 on cable in the 18-49 demographic. It ranked #4 for the night on cable after not even finishing in the top 10 for the last few weeks.

Despite the spike in viewership, attendance was low, with estimates of approximately 3,100 fans in the arena. According to live reports, arena staff had fans move to the “hard camera” side of the venue so they could make it look passable on television (see below).

WrestleCircus Introduces ‘Tipping’ During Wrestling Matches

4

US based independent promotion WrestleCircus will be utilising the streaming platform Twitch as an alternative to the much maligned YouTube, they are the first pro wrestling promotion to officially partner with the website.

Twitch is predominately a platform for gamers to stream console/PC ‘Let’s Plays’ and table top based games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer.

One of Twitch’s most unique features is the ‘tipping’ system. Viewers of a stream are able to ‘tip’ the content provider and now WrestleCircus are using this to give their performers an extra revenue stream as they look to push their unique style and presentation on the streaming site.

Will you be watching on Twitch? Are you likely to ‘tip’ the wrestlers that you like? Let us know in the comments

NXT Championship Match Officially Announced, Enzo Amore Continues To Taunt Conor McGregor

16

NXT Championship match officially announced

NXT Champion Bobby Roode will defend his title against Roderick Strong on the July 5th episode of NXT. WWE.com posted the following:

NXT Champion Bobby Roode will defend his title in a huge head-to-head showdown against Roderick Strong on the July 5 episode of NXT.

The Glorious One’s rivalry with Strong has intensified rapidly, with tensions reaching their boiling point on June 21 when a photo shoot erupted into a brawl between Roode and Strong.

This came after the titleholder and Strong had a war of words two weeks prior on NXT. Strong bared his soul to the NXT Universe, opening up about his journey into fatherhood and his desire to become NXT Champion, only to be met with ridicule and disrespect from Roode, who verbally tore down Strong’s title aspirations.

Following their backstage photoshoot throw down, the heated foes will now settle their differences inside the squared circle with NXT’s most prized possession on the line. Don’t miss this epic NXT Title contest on Wednesday, July 5, at 8/7 C, on the award-winning WWE Network.

WWE released a video earlier today of Roode and Strong getting into a fight before tonight’s episode of NXT.

Enzo Amore continues to taunt Conor McGregor

Monday on RAW, Big Cass was revealed to be the one that was attacking Enzo Amore backstage. Cass accused Enzo of using his mouth to write checks that his ass cannot cash. That message apparently didn’t get through to Enzo as he continues to take shots at Conor McGregor on social media. Here is the original tweet that Enzo sent out to McGregor on June 16th:

Earlier today, Enzo sent out the following tweet and once again called out McGregor:

John Cena Interviewed By Random New Yorkers (Video), Emma Warns Alexa Bliss

4

John Cena interviewed by New York City

John Cena has been all over the place promoting the second season of American Grit on Fox. His latest stop was at Vanity Fair, where he filmed a video answering questions from random New Yorkers. Cena had fun with the interview and answered most of the questions in humorous fashion.

Q: What is your biggest fear?

A: I think it is the battle that we all fight, time. I love to be active and physical and I think one of these days it is going to catch up with me. But judging by the advances in modern medicine, I figure that I am going to live to be at least 350.

Q: Where do you go to find your peace?

A: I go to the bathroom and I look down to make sure it still there. An occasionally, I go to the bedroom, when me and the gal are doing stuff like that. It’s never failed me yet, it is always there.

Q: What is your perfect date night?

A: Romantic date night, take her out to dinner, get a bottle of wine, have a great conversation and hopefully get lucky. And by get lucky, I mean being able to get a solid 8 hours of sleep.

Q: Would you ever take your clothes off for a role?

A: I have already done that. I wore a sock, not on my foot. So uh, that happened. Good talk.

You can check out the entire interview in the video below.

Emma warns Alexa Bliss

On Monday’s episode of RAW, Sasha Banks was scheduled to face Nia Jax in a match. RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss came out right before the match started and joined commentary. Emma then confronted Alexa Bliss at the announce table. On last week’s episode of RAW, Alexa Bliss was in a 6-woman tag match and Emma and Nia Jax were her teammates. Alexa Bliss walked away from the ring in the middle of the match and left Nia and Emma behind. Emma now apparently has her sights set on the RAW Women’s Championship. Emma sent out the following tweet about Alexa Bliss:

Charlotte Flair recently did an interview with ESPN and discussed all of the matches on this past Sunday’s Money in the Bank card. Charlotte gave her thoughts on Jinder Mahal’s rise in WWE, Lana’s SmackDown Women’s Championship opportunity and finding her place on SmackDown. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Lana getting a shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship:

“I believe pressure creates diamonds. Lana’s either going to sink or swim. I think it’s an awesome opportunity, a unique way to debut her wrestling skills. I think there’s excitement around it. It’s not your typical, “Hey, I’m here on Raw or SmackDown. I’m having my first match ever.” No, she has wrestled at WrestleMania on a preshow. I can’t say that it’s her first match, and she’s had NXT matches, but I think having this opportunity is huge.

Anybody would want this opportunity. I want another title match. So, I think it’s exciting. I couldn’t be more excited for her. You either rise to the occasion or you don’t. I think she’s done a great job of transitioning from [being] with Rusev to maybe being a part of our division.”

Jinder Mahal’s rise to the top of WWE:

“Knowing Jinder Mahal on a backstage level, I couldn’t be more excited for his rise to this occasion, becoming this super-villain. He looks like a star. He works hard behind the scenes. Obviously, Randy Orton will go down as one of the greatest in history. So, I think, for Jinder, it’s got to be exciting to know that there’s so much anticipation around the match. There’s also the element of other legends being there, front row, and he’s at the center of it all with Randy. Randy’s been in this position multiple times. This is another walk in the park for him, probably. I’m just excited for Jinder, as a whole.”

Finding her place on SmackDown:

“I think that’s trying to figure out, “Am I a good guy, or am I bad guy? Am I still the dirtiest player in the game, or have I come to my senses and Becky Lynch has rubbed off on me?”

The girls that I’m working with are absolutely amazing. It’s not whether I prefer Raw or SmackDown; it’s more, “What’s my role? Who’s Charlotte?” I think I’m still trying to figure out.”

Triple H Makes Fun Of The People’s Elbow, James Ellsworth Rants About Daniel Bryan

Triple H was interviewed on BBC Radio 1 today while in the U.K. During the interview, Triple H poked fun at The Rock’s finishing move The People’s Elbow and stated that the move started out as a joke. Here are some highlights from the interview:

The People’s Elbow starting out as a joke:

“You’re trying to make each other laugh and one night The Rock did The People’s Elbow. [It] wasn’t known as The People’s Elbow, it was known as ‘watch this move that’s going to make all of you lose it in your corners’ These things morph in those ways, but they catch on. Trust me, we’re quick to go, ‘oooh, they like that, I’m sticking with that.’”

Waiting to take the move:

“You’ve gotta wait for like 20 minutes while he takes his elbow pad off and works the crowd,” Triple H said. “He runs back and forth, then he comes up and drops an elbow on you that looks like it barely touches you, except that a lot of times the point of his elbow hits you right in the mouth and you come up bleeding and you’re like, ‘how can you bust me open on that?’ It’s also so funny that you’re running away to the bank with it.”

Video: Mike and Maria Kanellis Segment During Smackdown Commercial Break

10

After appearing at Smackdown’s Money in the Bank PPV on Sunday night, Mike and Maria Kanellis were oddly absent from last night’s broadcast.

They weren’t absent from Smackdown however, the smitten newlyweds (married in 2014, close enough) actually filmed a segment during a commercial break last night.

WWE has since released video of the segment:

Mike and Maria Kanellis

Maria was discovered in the WWE Diva Search of 2004, and stayed with the company until 2010. The 35 year old performed for NJPW, ROH and Impact Wrestling during her time away from the company.

32 year old Mike Bennett performed for Ring of Honor from 2008 to 2015. He would also perform with NJPW from 2014 to 2015, even winning the IWGP heavyweight tag team championships along with Matt Taven.

Speculation is that Maria will be playing the role of the manipulative trouble-maker. Bennett will then be the love-sick husband she gets to do her dirty work.
