Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate Switch Gimmicks for UK Match

5

UK based promotion ATTACK! Pro Wrestling recently held their annual ‘video game’ inspired show Press Start. This was the event’s fifth year of existence and ATTACK! were promoting it as ‘glitched out’ with some strange social media posts such as this:

Fans of the promotion were kept in the dark on how this would affect the event….it was revealed on the night that every match would feature gimmick switches for the competitors involved.

One of the highlight bouts saw a rematch between WWE UK stars Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne. It turned out to be one of the most surreal (and fun) bouts that the two have ever had. Check out some of the gifs below to see what occurred and if you like what you see then please check out the event on ATTACK!’s Video on Demand service.

PROGRESS has announced the first two matches for their Chapter 50 event ‘I Give it Six Months.’

First up is a bout for the PROGRESS Tag Team Championships between current title holders British Strong Style (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) and rising stars on the British scene #CCK. This will be #CCK’s official debut in PROGRESS and looks set to be a barnburner of a match.

Also confirmed is Toni Storm’s first defence of her PROGRESS Women’s Championship. Toni won the gold back at the Super Strong Style 16 event against Jinny and Laura Di Matteo. Her opponent Kay Lee Ray is one of the top performers in the ICW Women’s division so this match has the potential to be a show stealer.

Raven Reveals Why He’s Turned Down WWE Job Offers

3

Former WWE Superstar Raven recently did an interview with ESPN to talk about his professional wrestling career and why he’s turned down multiple offers to work for WWE. You can see what he had to say here:

If he has any regrets about leaving WCW:

“I really wish I would’ve stayed. That’s one of my regrets. I didn’t stay because the idea he told me did nothing for me. I was gonna lose stock as a character, so I didn’t but I wish I would’ve [stayed] because the way things worked out with [Vince] Russo coming in six months later and Russo being a huge fan of mine, I probably would’ve been in the world title mix. I know I would’ve got way, way more money on my contract on my next deal because it was a year from being up, so I would’ve probably doubled what I was already making. So it really was a stupid idea of me to go, but I wasn’t having fun. It’s still a huge regret.”

Why he turned down offers from WWE:

“No, I wouldn’t take it. Here’s the problem– creative you’re just a cog. The problem is you create great ideas and then you don’t get to see them come to fruition. That’s so taxing to me emotionally because you get so involved in the characters. So that would suck. As far as being a backstage agent, I don’t have any interest in that because I’m not using my creativity in any really strong way. You’re just an agent, so that wouldn’t interest me. It’s a whole different world now. The old days I would’ve definitely been a booker somewhere, but now it’s a 24-hour, 7-day a week job. I have no interest in being on the road that much because after 30 years of being on the road I’m happy at home.”

His Johnny Polo gimmick in WWE:

“WWE made me Johnny Polo, which I never wanted to be. I never felt like I fit the character just because the way my vocal patterns are — sounds nothing like an upper Greenwich, Connecticut-type person. It sounds like a Philadelphia, south Philly kind of guy. It’s funny, Vince McMahon said to me when he let me go he goes, ‘you really aren’t Johnny Polo. It’s kind of a disconnect because you dress one way and when you leave the office, you dress a completely different way. You talk differently. You’re really not Johnny Polo.’ And I’m like, ‘I know, I never thought I was.”

Alberto Del Rio Reveals How He’ll Help Impact Wrestling After Retirement

8

Former WWE Superstar and current Impact Wrestling star Alberto El Patron (a.k.a Alberto Del Rio) recently did an interview for Impact Wrestling during the promotion’s tour of India. Del Rio talked about his plans after retirement from pro wrestling, including how he plans to help Impact after he’s done competing in the ring. Here are the highlights:

For a long time, you were constantly linked with Impact Wrestling, and you finally made your debut earlier this year. Can you tell us what the fan reaction meant to you, with you being one of the top acquisitions for Impact Wrestling in the recent past?

“Oh, all the fans’ welcoming made me very happy. All my videos in the first week with Impact Wrestling went viral. We had more than 4 million viewers – people were just happy. People were talking about it for days, for weeks, because nobody expected to see me at Impact, especially because of all the rumors that said that I was going back to WWE. So for me to be there, make an impact and face Bobby Lashley, becoming the champion on the very first night, it was phenomenal.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rXeo8GqA1Q

We previously talked about how long you see yourself as a professional wrestler. You said you’d be in the business for maybe 3 years. Is that still the case for you?

“Yes, definitely. Definitely. I’m not going to be doing this for too long.I’m tired, I’m just tired. I’m going to stop doing so many shows outside of the United States. I’m going to come back to India anytime they need me with Impact Wrestling. But I’m not going to do so many shows in Europe. I just cancelled my – one of the shows in Chile. I think I’m just going to take two weeks off because I want to go home and rest.

“After India, I have to go home. I think I have to be home for two days and I’m going to do some work. I was supposed to go to Chile but I cancelled it, because I want to take my kids to – I have a house in Orlando. So I’m planning on taking my kids to Orlando for the whole month. I need to rest. My brain needs to rest. And I think this is the perfect time, after this Indian tour.

“It looks like everything is going fantastically in India, and I just want it to be a surprise. I want to go home completely happy, be happy at the end of the tour, at the end of the shows. To go knowing this tour was a complete success.”

What does the future have in store for you?

“Well, I’m going to retire from pro wrestling soon. And if everything goes well, I will stay at Impact (Wrestling) working as an agent, a producer. Everybody loves my work, everybody loves my choreography. Everyone talks about the way I structure the matches and how when someone is in the ring with me, I will elevate that someone. So if that is something I can help with once I retire from my wrestling days, I will be completely happy doing it.

“So, once my in – ring days are over, I will be doing some agent/producer work for the company, and I’m going to continue working with Combate Americas and taking the company to new places, and help that company to grow. I have a lot of plans, a lot of projects outside wrestling, and most importantly, I am going to go home and enjoy with my family.”

Lana Returns, Will Challenge Naomi At Money In The Bank

12

On this week’s episode of SmackDown, Lana made her debut and asked to be a part of the Money in the Bank ladder match. Shane McMahon declined and Naomi laughed at her for even asking to be a part of it. Lana then claimed that she could defeat Naomi and got in her face. Shane McMahon then broke up the argument and told Lana that Women’s Championship matches needed to be earned. Lana then threw a tantrum and exited the ring.

During the 6-woman tag match on SmackDown, Lana came down to the ring and tripped up Naomi on the ring apron. This wound up costing Naomi the match and Lana posed with the Welcoming Committee after their victory. Later on during SmackDown, Naomi approached Shane McMahon backstage. Naomi asked for a match against Lana at Money in the Bank and said that she would be willing to put her SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line. SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon then made the match official. Naomi will defend her title against Lana at Money in the Bank on June 18th.

Here is the updated card for WWE Money in the Bank:

  • WWE Championship Match: Jinder Mahal (c) vs Randy Orton
  • MITB Ladder Match: Baron Corbin vs Kevin Owens vs Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler vs Sami Zayn vs AJ Styles
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Naomi (c) vs Lana
  • SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) vs New Day
  • Women’s MITB Ladder Match: Becky Lynch vs Carmella vs Tamina Snuka vs Charlotte Flair vs Natalya

WWE SmackDown Recap & Reaction (6/6)

10

SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon kicked off this week’s episode of SmackDown. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Tamina, Natalya and Carmella were all in the ring. James Ellsworth was also there looking completely ridiculous. Shane joined them in the ring and grabbed a microphone. Shane welcomed the crowd to SmackDown Live and the crowd cheered. Shane introduced the audience to the participants in the first ever women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match.

The crowd booed as Carmella, Natalya and Tamina were introduced. The audience then applauded as Shane announced Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Shane asked for a drumroll and revealed a white briefcase that said “Money in the Bank” on it. Shane discussed the history of the Money in the Bank ladder match and was interrupted by Ellsworth. Ellsworth told Shane McMahon that there was no need to mansplain the match. Carmella then grabbed the microphone and said she was going to win the match.

Charlotte interrupted and bragged about being genetically superior and stated that she was going to win the MITB contract and add to her legacy. Natalya accused Charlotte of ripping off her father. Becky then accused Natalya of ripping off her uncle Bret Hart. Becky guaranteed that she would win and Tamina interrupted and said that she was going to win the match and shut everyone up.

Naomi’s music hit and she danced down to the ring. Naomi grabbed a microphone and stated that she wished that she could be in the MITB ladder match because she knows it is going to be “lit” as the kids say. Lana’s music hit and she made her way to the ring. Shane said it wasn’t the correct time for Lana to be in the ring. Lana said she wanted to be in the match and the other Superstars chuckled.

Naomi cackled into the microphone and Lana asked her what was so funny. Naomi said “Bugs Bunny and you”. Naomi then asked Lana who has she ever beaten and then hummed the jeopardy theme. Lana stated that she could defeat Naomi and got right in her face. Shane then said that Lana needed to earn a SmackDown Women’s Championship match is something she needed to earn. Lana then threw a tantrum and exited the ring as the crowd chanted “let’s go Lana”.

Reaction: Wouldn’t it have made sense here for Shane to announce a non-title match between Lana and Naomi? If Lana won the match, she would have been added to the MITB ladder match. I thought that was going to happen the entire time during this promo. It wound up not happening and this entire promo felt awkward. For some reason, they had this big reveal of a white briefcase and the crowd didn’t really react to it at all.

Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Natalya, Tamina & Carmella

Natalya and Charlotte started off the match. Natalya controlled the match early but Charlotte fought back with a couple of chops. Carmella barked at Charlotte from the ring apron and Becky Lynch tagged herself into the match. Carmella was tagged in and she knocked Becky to the mat. Becky went for a roll-up and Carmella kicked out. Becky then locked Carmella with her legs and rolled around the ring several times as Carmella screamed for help.

Carmella knocked Becky out of the ring and Natalya laid her out with a Clothesline as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Tamina and Becky Lynch were in the ring. Tamina knocked Becky to the mat for a two count. Natalya was then tagged in and continued the beatdown on Lynch. The crowd chanted “let’s go Becky” as Natalya locked in a Chin Lock. Becky fought out of the hold and connected with a kick to Natalya’s head.

Naomi and Carmella then entered the match and Naomi connected with a series of kicks. Naomi hit a Jawbreaker on Carmella. Tamina was then tagged in and she was greeted with a kick to the face by Naomi. Naomi hit a springboard Crossbody and went for a pinfall but Carmella broke it up. Charlotte hit Carmella with a big boot. Tamina and Natalya then teamed up on Charlotte. Lana came down to the ring and tripped up Naomi on the ring apron. Tamina then connected with a Superkick on Naomi for the victory.

Winners: Natalya, Tamina & Carmella

Reaction: I thought this match was decent. Lana interfered and attacked Naomi so I guess a feud is starting up between them. Naomi is not involved in the MITB ladder match, so I’m guessing Lana will have a match with her at the PPV.

Shane McMahon was shown backstage by the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy. Mojo Rawley said he has been a ghost on SmackDown since winning the battle royal. Mojo said that he is motivated that Shane McMahon didn’t include him in the MITB ladder match. Rawley said that he is the only Superstar that has defeated Jinder Mahal since coming to SmackDown. Shane said that if Mojo can defeat Mahal tonight, he will be added to the MITB ladder match.

AJ Styles vs Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler connected with a Dropkick early for a two count as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Styles connected with a Clothesline and knocked Ziggler to the mat. Ziggler went for a pinfall with his feet on the ropes and the referee caught it. Ziggler then hit a Fameasser for a two count. Styles connected with a forearm and followed it up with a Styles Clash for the victory.

Winner: AJ Styles

Reaction: Styles lost to Ziggler last week on SmackDown but put him away quickly tonight. These matches have felt pretty meaningless and seems like WWE is just trying to kill time before MITB.

Another episode of Fashion Files with Breezango was shown. This episode was in black and white. Fandango was wearing a tie with no shirt and a cowboy hat. The New Day interrupted and asked Breezango if they could help them out with a case. New Day handed Breezango a couple of rompers. New Day asked for some intel about The Usos and Breezango handed them a few boxes.

Reaction: This was painfully unfunny. I’m all for funny characters and skits. There is one major requirement though, they actually have to be funny.

Mojo Rawley vs Jinder Mahal

Mojo started out the match in control and slammed Mahal to the mat. Jinder quickly rolled to the ring apron and the Singh Brothers gave him a pep-talk. Mojo leveled Mahal with a shoulder tackle and knocked him out of the ring. Jinder got back to the ring and was knocked back to the mat again. One of the Singh Brothers jumped up on the ring apron and distracted Mojo.

Jinder took advantage and booted Mojo in the face. Mahal then leveled Rawley with a Clothesline and applied a Chin Lock. Rawley powered out of the hold but Mahal raked Mojo in across the eyes. Mahal then hit the Khallas for the victory.

Winner: Jinder Mahal

After the match, Jinder Mahal grabbed the microphone and told the audience to be quiet. Mahal bragged about being WWE Champion and the crowd started chanting “USA!”. Mahal said that he dismantled Mojo’s dreams and he was going to dismantle Orton’s dream of becoming WWE Champion in his hometown of St.Louis. Mahal said that Randy Orton and his fans are sick and he is the antidote. Mahal then spoke in Punjabi and raised the title. Mahal then went to the turnbuckle to raise the WWE Championship and almost tripped over the bottom rope.

Reaction: I have no idea what is going on with Mahal’s voice, but his promos have been very soft-spoken for the past couple of weeks. It really is bizarre because I’ve had to turn up the volume on my television to hear his promos. I feel like he should be shouting and insulting the audience. Instead, his promos are almost cordial as he insults the crowd. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I’m bored with the Orton and Mahal feud and want it to be over. I don’t think the SmackDown product would be any better if Orton was WWE Champion. I’m fine with Mahal as the champ for now, I just want him to face someone else. This feud sucks and has no emotion behind it.

Randy Orton was interviewed backstage by Renee Young. Orton said that he received calls from WWE legends after SmackDown last week and they told him that actions speak louder than words. Orton said that he doesn’t need to say anything and will let his actions do the talking in two weeks at Money in the Bank.

Reaction: I would have loved to see Mahal attack Orton during this backstage interview. Hell, I would have taken Mahal walking by him and giving him a dirty look. Can we get a storyline in a WWE Championship feud? Is that too much to ask? At this rate, throw the WWE Championship match on the MITB Kickoff Show because nobody gives a damn about it. This feud has been so phoned-in that it is becoming ridiculous.

New Day vs The Colons

New Day controlled this entire match. Woods and Big E hit the Midnight Hour for the victory. After the match, The Usos came down to the entrance ramp and cut a promo on the New Day. The Usos welcomed New Day to the Uso penitentiary and made a few jokes. They called Kofi a ballerina, and said that the “E” in Big E was his bra size. They also poked fun at Xavier Woods’ ridiculous shoes.

Winners: New Day

Reaction: The Usos have been one of the better parts of SmackDown recently. I have really enjoyed their work as heels. I’m also looking forward to seeing them wrestle against a team that doesn’t dress up as old ladies and bring squirt guns to the ring.

Sami Zayn was interviewed backstage. Zayn stated that he has been studying up on his opponents in the MITB ladder match. Zayn claimed that he cannot figure out Shinsuke Nakamura and will join commentary for his match tonight against Kevin Owens. Baron Corbin then showed up and attacked Zayn. Corbin then launched Zayn into a stack of ladders that just happened to be there. Corbin then stated that he will be joining commentary instead.

Naomi asked Shane McMahon for a match against Lana at Money in the Bank. Naomi said that she would even put her title on the line. Shane McMahon then made the match official. Naomi will defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lana at Money in the Bank.

Kevin Owens vs Shinsuke Nakamura

Baron Corbin joined commentary for this match. Nakamura connected with a kick that knocked Owens and SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Owens was in control of the match. Owens applied a Chin Lock in the middle of the ring. Nakamura battled out of the hold but Owens planted him a DDT for a two count.

Nakamura connected with a kick that knocked Owens to the mat. Nakamura perched Owens up on the top rope and kicked him in the midsection for a two count. Owens connected with a headbutt and followed it up with a Clothesline in the corner. Owens then perched Nakamura up on the top turnbuckle and joined him there. Owens went for a Superplex but Nakamura blocked it.

Shinsuke connected with a couple of punches and knocked Owens off the turnbuckle. Owens then dragged him down to the mat and connected with a Cannonball. Nakamura hit Owens with a kick and a reverse Exploder Suplex. Nakamura then hit the Kinshasa for the victory.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

After the match, Corbin attacked Nakamura and planted him with the End of Days.

Reaction: The match between Nakamura and Owens was essentially five minutes. There was a commercial break right when it started and it ended with a few minutes left in the show. Corbin would make the most sense to me as the Superstar that wins the briefcase at Money in the Bank.

Overall, I thought this week’s episode of SmackDown was terrible. Almost everything felt half-assed on this show. I’m not really invested in any storyline on SmackDown right now. SmackDown has one more show until Money in the Bank and it would take a miracle for any of these storylines to become interesting next week. I’m looking forward to the ladder matches and that is about it. I honestly could care less about anything else scheduled for the PPV.

The PPV will probably turn out to be entertaining, but WWE is having a hell of a time creating interesting television on RAW and SmackDown right now. The declining ratings certainly reflect that and I don’t this episode of SmackDown will create any buzz to attract new viewers. There really wasn’t anything interesting that happened tonight. I guess Lana making her debut was the highlight of the show.

WWE SmackDown Results & Live Discussion (6/6)

59

The June 6th edition of WWE SmackDown aired live from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY.

– The women of SmackDown (and James Ellsworth) are in the ring, and they’re joined by Shane McMahon to open up the show. Shane calls for a drum roll, then a black box drops from the ceiling. Shane takes it and reveals the women’s Money In the Bank briefcase, then the Money In The Bank theme song briefly plays. Shane starts to explain how the Money In The Bank ladder match works, but Ellsworth interrupts and tells Shane to stop man-splaining because they know how the match works, duh. The women get into a war of words until Naomi comes out to interrupt. Naomi says even though she loves being champion, she wishes she could be in the Money In The Bank ladder match. Lana interrupts next. Lana makes her way out to the ring, but Shane says she wasn’t scheduled and this doesn’t work for him. Lana says Naomi can’t compete, but she can, and Lana wants a spot in the match. Naomi laughs at her and points out that Lana has never had a match, then asks who Lana has ever beaten. Lana says she can beat Naomi. Shane tells Lana she has to earn her spot in the match, and Lana walks off upset. As she leaves, the crowd chants “we want Lana.” Shane calls for a referee, because we have a six-woman tag match up next.

Natalya, Carmella & Tamina def. Naomi, Becky Lynch & Charlotte: Charlotte starts things off against Natalya and lays into her with chops to the chest. Charlotte hits a knee drop then Becky tags in. Carmella throws Becky outside where Natalya hits Becky with a discus clothesline on the floor. Back in the ring, Natalya and Tamina take turns working over Becky. Naomi and Carmella get the tags and Naomi drops Carmella with a series of kicks. Tamina comes in and Naomi hits a kick to the head, but Tamina throws her into the corner. Naomi hits another kick and a springboard cross body for a two count. Lana comes back down the ramp and trips Naomi from ringside, which leads to Tamina hitting a superkick for the win.

– Mojo Rawley confronts Shane McMahon backstage about not getting an opportunity in the Money In The Bank ladder match. Shane says he can have a spot in the match if he beats Jinder Mahal in singles action tonight.

AJ Styles def. Dolph Ziggler: Ziggler hits a big dropkick in the opening moments of this rematch from last week for a two count. Ziggler and Styles trade right hands in the middle of the ring until AJ drops Dolph with a clothesline. Ziggler rolls up AJ and puts his feet on the ropes, but the referee breaks the pin. Ziggler hits the Fameasser on AJ for a two count. Ziggler takes AJ up top for a superplex, but AJ gets out. AJ elbows Ziggler in the face and Ziggler comes back with another rollup pin attempt holding the ropes. AJ gets out and comes back with the Styles Clash for the win.

The New Day says they want The Fashion Police to help them research The Usos, and Breeze and Fandango hand over their boxes of evidence. The Fashion Police say they’re on the case.

Jinder Mahal def. Mojo Rawley: The Singh Brothers come out before Jinder to introduce the WWE Champion. This one is a non-title match. Mojo starts off strong with a flying shoulder block that sends Jinder rolling outside. Back in the ring, Mojo hits another shoulder block, but then he’s distracted by the Singh Brothers at ringside. Jinder capitalizes on the distraction by booting Mojo in the face then dropping some knees on him. Mojo comes back with some right hands and a splash in the corner. Mojo gets Jinder in the Fireman’s Carry position, but Jinder rakes the eyes and throws Mojo in the corner. Jinder grabs Mojo from behind and hits the Cobra Clutch slam for the win.

– After the match, the Singh Brothers bring Jinder his WWE Championship belt, then the lights go out with a spotlight on Jinder in the ring. Mojo cuts a promo saying he dismantled the dreams of Mojo Rawley just like he’s going to dismantle Randy Orton’s dream of winning back the Title in his hometown. Jinder says Orton and the rest of the Americans are sick, and Jinder is the antidote. Jinder says after he cures Randy Orton at Money In The Bank, the fans will have no choice but to accept Jinder. Jinder then speaks to his people in his language before leaving.

– A Shinsuke Nakamura highlight reel airs featuring clips of someone painting a picture of him.

– The New Day is backstage getting ready to come out to the ring.

– Randy Orton does an interview backstage where he says he’s talked to his father, Ric Flair and Harley Race who all told him to let Jinder talk trash because actions speak louder than words. Orton says at Money In The Bank he won’t have to say a word but Jinder will hear him fine.

The New Day def. The Colons: Xavier Woods and Big E are representing the New Day in this one. Primo starts off in control against Xavier, but when Epico tags in Xavier takes him back to the corner and Big E tags in. This leads to Big E and Xavier getting both Colons in abdominal stretches and spanking them in stereo. Xavier hits a missile dropkick off the top on Primo, then Big E and Epico tag in. Big E hits a series of belly to belly suplexes, followed up by a running splash. Xavier takes out Primo at ringside with a suicide dive, while Epico rolls up Big E from behind in the ring for a two count. Xavier tags in and they hit the Midnight Hour on Epico for the win. Corbin hits him with a ladder, then throws him into some more ladders. Corbin says he’ll be taking Zayn’s spot on commentary tonight.

– Shane McMahon is backstage on the phone and he’s not pleased with Corbin. Naomi comes in and asks for a match against Lana, and says she’s willing to put her title on the line. Shane books Naomi to defend her Women’s Title against Lana at Money In The Bank.

Nakamura hits the running knee for the face for the win. After the match, Baron Corbin runs in and hits the End of Days on Nakamura. Corbin heads backstage as we see replays of the End of Days and SmackDown goes off the air.

WWE Hypes Brock Lesnar’s Return To RAW Next Week

11

Last night on RAW, the newly crowned #1 contender Samoa Joe brutally attacked Brock Lesnar’s advocate, Paul Heyman. Samoa Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch until Heyman passed out in the middle of the ring.

During the final hour of last night’s RAW, Paul Heyman received a call backstage from Brock Lesnar. Heyman said that Lesnar should show up on RAW next week and confront Samoa Joe.

WWE is currently hyping Lesnar’s return to RAW next week and posted the following on their website:

Samoa Joe showed no fear when he trapped Paul Heyman in the Coquina Clutch on Raw, but next Monday night, he’ll have to answer to Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar hasn’t been seen on Raw since the night after he captured Team Red’s most prestigious prize from Goldberg at WrestleMania 33, but now that he has a No. 1 contender in The Samoan Submission Machine — who painfully attacked Lesnar’s advocate this week — The Beast Incarnate has decided to resurface. We might be weeks away from Joe and Lesnar’s Universal Title clash at the WWE Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, but things are already heating up.

What will happen when Lesnar and Joe meet under the same roof next Monday night? Find out by tuning in to Raw at 8/7 C on USA Network.

Brock Lesnar is set to defend his Universal Championship against Samoa Joe at WWE Great Balls of Fire on July 9th. WWE released the following promo for the PPV yesterday:

Backstage Update On The Mae Young Classic, How WWE Will Release The Episodes & When The Finals Will Air

3

According to PWInsider.com, a preview special for the 32-woman tournament will air on the WWE Network on August 20th. In the final week of August, the entire first round of the tournament will be released via on-demand so fans can binge-watch the episodes. The second round of the tournament will then be released during the first week of September.

WWE originally discussed releasing it during SummerSlam week, but changed their minds because they didn’t want the tournament overshadowed by everything going on SummerSlam weekend. NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III airs on August 19th and then SummerSlam airs the following night on August 20th.

The finals of the Mae Young Classic are set to air live on the WWE Network on September 12th. WWE is scheduled to tape SmackDown Live in Las Vegas on the same night, so it is possible that the finals will air live from Las Vegas. All rounds of the Mae Young Classic, excluding the finals, are set to tape on July 13th and July 14th at Full Sail University.

AJ Styles on Initially Hating The ‘Styles’ Name

4

As we’ve previously noted, former WWE Champion AJ Styles was recently a guest on Rock 100.5’s Bailey And Southside during SmackDown Live’s recent trip to his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. You can check out some more highlights from Styles’ appearance here below:

Initially wanting to be a luchador by the name of “Velocity”:

“I wanted to wear a mask! I loved those [luchadors]. I’m so glad that didn’t happen.” Styles continued, “I wanted to wear a mask and call myself ‘Velocity’. What a terrible name.”

Getting the ‘Styles’ name given to him by a random promoter and it stuck – but he wasn’t a fan of it:

“I didn’t have a name. Everybody always called me ‘AJ’ anyway, so I stuck with AJ. And then, [the promoter] is like, ‘yeah, you’re tagging with Damien Still. We need a last name. Styles! Go!’ That’s it. That’s how the name [came] about. AJ Styles. I hated it. I hated Styles for a really long time.”

Being willing to change his ring name once he arrived at WWE:

“[WWE] didn’t say anything about changing it. I just assumed it would probably happen, but a year prior, maybe a couple of months prior, Samoa Joe had went to NXT and they didn’t change his name, so I thought, ‘well, maybe there’s a chance’. But, at the same time, I was like, ‘ah, I don’t care what they call me, Velocity, if you want to call me that, whatever.’ But I’m glad they stuck with AJ Styles and it actually worked out for everybody.”

Jason Jordan Says He Considered a Dentist Gimmick While in NXT

4

WWE Superstar and former SmackDown Live Tag Team Champion Jason Jordan recently did an interview with the Miami Herald to talk about a crazy dentist gimmick he almost had in WWE, Dusty Rhodes’ influence on his career, the current SmackDown Live tag team division, and more. You can check out the highlights below:

Almost having a dentist gimmick while in WWE Developmental, seeing as he was pursuing a career in the field before professional wrestling:

“[Chuckle] The thought actually crossed my mind, when I was in FCW [WWE’s developmental]. We threw out a lot of different character ideas, and for me, being there for so long, you have to throw a lot of things against the wall. That was something that definitely ran through my mind at some point.”

Late-great WWE Hall Of Famer Dusty Rhodes’ influence on his career:

“[Dusty] definitely helped me get me to the point where I am now. He’s somebody who’s always believed in me, and he’s had a huge influence on my career. Also, he’s the whole reason why Chad and I were put together. It was his idea, and we definitely owe Dusty Rhodes a huge thank you, because if it wasn’t for him, there might not be an American Alpha.”

The current SmackDown Live tag team division:

“I think the SmackDown tag division is really getting some steam going. I think there were some trades that switched things up, with the superstar shake-up [in April], and I think we’re really getting some steam going. It’s been a really competitive division, and hopefully there are more things to come as far as the tag division on SmackDown.”

Former WWE Diva Cameron on Why She Didn’t Like John Cena’s Proposal to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania

13

Former WWE Diva Cameron was recently a guest on “The Tomorrow Show with Keven Undergaro” to talk about her time in WWE, who she bumped heads with during her time in the company, and why she didn’t like John Cena’s proposal to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33. Here are the highlights:

Bumping heads with Brodus Clay:

“You know it’s funny, like I said we’re, when you get to know these people it’s, it’s like a brother and sisterhood. Brodus and I bumped heads so many times…yeah it’s, it’s so crazy. Um, you know, I’m very outspoken and I say what I want and to some people I don’t, I don’t think people like the truth and so sometimes people really taken back by that.

“You know, Naomi is very chill and kind of go with the flow and just sometimes we would you know, Nao–would be chilling and I be like ‘no like we need to do this’ or ‘I don’t want to eat here tonight‘ and it’s just like we’ve always had that love, hate relationship. But at the end of the day he has a sp–you know a special place in my heart, I just spoke to him maybe three months ago and I check on him.”

Not liking John Cena’s proposal to Nikki Bella being at WrestleMania 33:

“I wish it wasn’t done at Mania…I feel like everyone knew it was gonna happen. You know, I feel like I’m a person that it’s like, I wanna be surprised, not be like, oh, you know what, I knew that; but I’m very happy for her, because I know that girl has been wanting, you know, him to marry her for, for some time. So it’s like, you know what, I wish them, I wish them the best, especially because, you know, he said he was never going to get married and never wanna have kids, and she, she stuck around so, you know, hopefully everything goes well and it seems like they’re happy…

“I feel like because it makes it so much of a cliche that people were, like, especially with the storyline with Maurice and Miz bash, and it’s like, you know there’s going to be a payoff. So you know at WrestleMania that it’s gonna happen. And so especially for, you know, the IWC community and like, the W–, you know that they know that that’s going to happen so I wish there was, like a, a spin, or at least maybe if they lost the match and then got the, I don’t know, somewhere that wasn’t, like, the biggest stage. But, I mean, on the flip side, that’s dope, because that’s the biggest; it’s like, you know, that’s the Super Bowl for wrestling.”

As was the case with several other superstars who lost at Extreme Rules, the Hardys were not on Raw last night. Cesaro & Sheamus wrestled, and won, a non-title match against Heath Slater & Rhyno.

Neville informed TJP that he will get his Cruiserweight Championship match tonight on 205 Live. After RAW went off the air, TJP was asked about Neville’s attack and the Cruiserweight Championship match. TJP responded with “You know what they say? Ask and you shall recieve” and then walked away.

Ryan Satin of the Pro Wrestling Sheet has released further details on the WWE UK division and the brand’s upcoming bi-weekly events.

The current plan calls for tapings every six weeks and for live events to run every other week in the UK featuring the UK contracted talent. The time frame for the tapings has not yet been finalised and it may well be several more months until tapings for the series begin.

The top stars in the division, namely Pete Dunne, Trent Seven, Tyler Bate, Wolfgang and Mark Andrews have reportedly signed US contracts that will allow them to drop in on the Florida based Performance Center when needed. These top stars will likely remain in the United Kingdom to focus on building the UK brand rather than continue to work cameo appearances on NXT.

WWE RAW Recap & Reaction (6/5)

27

Bray Wyatt kicked off this week’s episode of WWE RAW. Wyatt cut a promo in the ring and talked about last night’s Fatal 5-Way at Extreme Rules. Bray Wyatt claimed to be every bit of the god he has always been. Wyatt stated that Balor, Joe, Rollins and Reigns are guilty of preventing him from slaying “The Beast” Brock Lesnar. Wyatt said that he has made a vow that those four Superstars must be punished. Roman Reigns then interrupted Wyatt’s promo and made his way to the ring.

Wyatt held the microphone in the air as the crowd booed Roman Regins. Bray then laughed into the microphone and walked towards Reigns. Roman grabbed the microphone out of Bray’s hands and smirked. Dueling “lets go Roman!” and “Roman sucks!” chants broke out in the crowd. Reigns acknowledged the crowd and said that this reaction was why he is “the guy”. Reigns then punched Wyatt in the face and Bray rolled out of the ring.

Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt

Wyatt went for a Sister Abigail right away but Reigns avoided it and knocked Wyatt out of the ring as RAW went to a commercial break. When RAW returned, both Superstars were on the mat. Wyatt got up to his knees and punched Reigns in the face several times. Wyatt went for a pinfall but Reigns kicked out at two. Wyatt applied a Chin Lock in the middle of the ring. Reigns battled to his feet but Wyatt planted him with a DDT for a two count.

Bray once again applied a Chin Lock to Reigns. Roman powered to his feet and broke the hold. Reigns connected with a right hand and hit Wyatt with a Samoan Drop for a two count. Roman connected with three Clotheslines in a row. Wyatt responded by driving Reigns’ shoulder into the ring post and Roman fell out of the ring. Wyatt followed Roman out of the ring and connected with a Senton outside the ring as RAW went to another commercial break.

When RAW returned, the action had returned to the ring and Wyatt once again had Reigns in a Chin Lock. You guessed it, Reigns got back to his feet and connected with a right hand. Wyatt charged at Roman but Reigns dodged him and launched Bray out of the ring. Wyatt got back in the ring and was immediately leveled with a Clothesline by Reigns. Roman connected with 10 punches in the corner and hit Wyatt with a big boot for a two count.

Reigns geared up for the Superman Punch but Wyatt freaked out Reigns with a spider walk and then slammed Roman to the mat. Wyatt connected with a Splash in the corner and then perched Reigns up on the top rope. Wyatt joined him up there and connected with a few right hands. Reigns heatbutted Wyatt several times and then Powerbombed him off the turnbuckle for a two count.

Reigns once again geared up for the Superman Punch and missed. Reigns then went for another Superman Punch and connected for a two count. Reigns went for a Spear but Wyatt rolled out of the ring. Roman followed him out there and hit the Drive By but Wyatt responded by leveling Roman with a Clothesline. Both Superstars were on the floor outside the ring as the referee started counting.

Wyatt was the first Superstar in the ring and Reigns barely was able to return to the ring before the 10 count. Wyatt went for the Sister Abigail but Reigns countered it into a roll-up for a two count. Reigns then hit another Superman Punch and followed it up with a Spear for the victory.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Reaction: Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt put on a solid match to kick off RAW. I still have the same issue with Bray Wyatt that I’ve pretty much had his entire run in the WWE. He consistently refers to himself as a god, yet always seems to lose matches. While this match was solid, absolutely nothing was accomplished and nothing changed. Reigns is still dominant and Wyatt is still cutting hollow promos. Next week, I’m sure Wyatt will cut another ominous promo and then promptly lose a match. Rinse and repeat.

https://twitter.com/WWE/status/871887580324704256

Charly Caruso interviewed Enzo and Cass backstage. Charly asked Enzo about the attacks on him in the past few weeks. Enzo said that he has no idea who attacked him. Cass stated that he is insulted that some people think it was him that attacked Enzo. Cass said he will be watching Enzo’s back all night, including in their match against Gallows and Anderson. Enzo also poked fun at Corey Graves and flirted with Caruso during this backstage promo.

RAW GM Kurt Angle backstage staring at his cell phone. Alexa Bliss showed up and claimed that she was done with Bayley and moving on. Bliss pitched an idea for promo about her life tonight. Angle said that was a terrible idea because her “This Is Your Life” promo about Bayley was one of the worst segments of all time. Angle then said that Alexa Bliss will be defending her RAW Women’s Championship against Nia Jax tonight.

Reaction: Well, at least WWE is poking fun at that horrific Alexa Bliss and Bayley segment last week on RAW. WWE announced on Twitter that Bayley will not be on RAW tonight. I guess they really want the WWE Universe to think that Bayley is exceptionally weak. Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns were involved in a very physical Fatal 5-Way match last night at Extreme Rules. Bray Wyatt was on the receiving end of a Frog Splash through the announce table and was still on RAW. Bayley gets hit with a kendo stick a couple of times and isn’t on the show.

Elias Samson was in the ring with his guitar. Samson instructed the audience to hold their applause until after he is finished performing. Samson performed a song that insulted the crowd and Dean Ambrose. Dean interrupted the song and attacked Samson. Ambrose launched Samson into the barricade outside the ring and then grabbed a microphone. Ambrose demanded a rematch for the Intercontinental Championship right now.

The Miz appeared on the titantron and said that there will not be a rematch tonight. The Miz stated that tonight was the beginning of The Miz’s Intercontinental Championship comeback tour. Samson then snuck up behind Ambrose and planted him with a Neckbreaker.

Ambrose approached Kurt Angle backstage and asked for his Intercontinental Championship rematch. Angle said that Ambrose will get his rematch but not tonight. Angle told Ambrose to take the night off and leave the building.

Reaction: I honestly was hoping that the Intercontinental Championship rematch would happen tonight just so we could get it over with. I’m tired of The Miz and Ambrose feud and I’m just tired of Dean Ambrose in general. I’d like to see him turn heel or just go away for a bit. Ambrose is a particular frustrating Superstar because I think he is very talented, but I feel like his character has been running in place for a long time.

When he was Intercontinental Champion, it didn’t feel important at all. The Miz provides some entertainment as Intercontinental Champion because he is such a hatable character. I’m guessing that Elias Samson will eventually cost Ambrose his rematch. I would have preferred to see that happen tonight because I’m incredibly bored with this feud. I’m sure Ambrose will interrupt The Miz’s celebration later tonight and I couldn’t be any less excited about it.

Samoa Joe came down to the ring to cut a promo. Joe stated that he doesn’t fear Brock Lesnar. Joe claimed that he was envious of Brock Lesnar because he wants everything that he has. Joe said that he wants Brock Lesnar’s easy schedule so he doesn’t have to come out here in front of the ungrateful masses. Samoa Joe stated that he wants Paul Heyman to be his advocate and run his errands. Joe said that he wants Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship and that he will take it from him at Great Balls of Fire.

Paul Heyman interrupted and made his way to the entrance ramp. Heyman complimented Samoa Joe and called him a badass for earning a title shot by winning the Fatal 5-Way at Extreme Rules. Heyman continued to compliment Joe as got into the ring. Heyman said that Brock Lesnar doesn’t fear Joe either. Heyman said that he worries for a living and is always concerned about who Lesnar’s opponent is.

Heyman called Samoa Joe the worst case scenario because he doesn’t give a damn. Heyman said that it is his job to make sure that at Great Balls of Fire, Brock Lesnar is Samoa Joe’s worst case scenario. Heyman shook Joe’s hand and went to walk away but Joe grabbed him. Joe then told Heyman then he is going to wrap his hand around Heyman’s throat and choke him out. Joe told Heyman to tell Lesnar how it feels and to tell Lesnar what his future holds. Lesnar then applied the Coquina Clutch to Heyman in the middle of the ring until he passed out. The crowd chanted “we want Brock!” and Joe grabbed a microphone and said “so do I”. Joe then exited as Heyman laid in the ring.

Reaction: I absolutely loved this promo. Heyman is awesome at selling matches and is just awesome in general. Samoa Joe is very believable when cutting promos and came off like a complete badass here. Unfortunately, Lesnar was not at RAW tonight. It would have been perfect if Lesnar came out and had a quick brawl with Joe. Samoa Joe needs to be built up as a monster heading into Great Balls of Fire and this was a huge step in that direction. I love the intensity that this feud already has and it has just started. I hope the match delivers because even if Joe doesn’t win at Great Balls of Fire, this feud could make him into a star on the main roster.

Kurt Angle confronted Samoa Joe backstage. Joe asked Angle if he was in his way and Seth Rollins interrupted. Rollins challenged Joe to match tonight and Kurt Angle made it official. Rollins referred to Bray Wyatt as a “false prophet” in this backstage promo.

Sheamus & Cesaro vs Heath Slater & Rhyno

Sheamus and Cesaro attacked Rhyno and Slater right away. Sheamus slammed Slater into the ring post. The match started with Sheamus and Slater in the ring. Sheamus knocked him to the mat and then tagged in Cesaro. Slater launched Cesaro out of the ring and then connected with a kick to Sheamus’ face. Slater tried to tag in Rhyno but Cesaro dragged him off the ring apron. Sheamus then leveled Slater with a Brogue Kick for the victory.

Sheamus and Cesaro cut a promo after the match and boasted about defeating The Hardys last night at Extreme Rules.

Winners: Sheamus & Cesaro

TJP confronted Neville backstage and said that he wants the title shot that Neville promised him. Neville said that if TJP takes care of Mustafa Ali, he will speak to Kurt Angle about giving him a shot at the Cruiserweight Championship.

TJP vs Mustafa Ali

TJP started out the match in control and shoved his boot in Ali’s face in the corner. Ali flipped off the top turnbuckle and landed on TJP for a two count. Ali locked in Arm Bar but TJP quickly got out of it. TJP dragged Ali to the mat by his hair and then connected with a Senton for a two count. TJP then dabbed in the ring and applied a Chin Lock. Ali battled out of the hold and connected with a Tornado DDT. Ali then climbed up to the top rope but TJP kicked his legs out from under him. TJP then connected with the Detonation Kick for the victory.

After the match, Neville came down to the entrance ramp with a microphone and TJP joined him there. Neville said that he spoke to Kurt Angle and had some unfortunate news. TJP interrupted and demanded that they both go backstage and talk to RAW GM Kurt Angle together. Neville then attacked TJP from behind and informed him that he has his title shot tomorrow night on 205 Live.

Winner: TJP

https://twitter.com/WWE205Live/status/871903141020655617

Another Goldust vignette was aired. Goldust quoted Gone with the Wind and cut a promo on R-Truth.

Sasha Banks was backstage with Dana Brooke and Mickie James. Alexa Bliss showed up and Sasha Banks walked away. Bliss told Mickie James and Dana Brooke that they should be insulted that Nia Jax is getting a shot at the RAW Women’s Championship before them. Bliss stated that the division has a Nia Jax problem. Dana Brooke and Mickie James stated that Alexa Bliss was the only one that has a Nia Jax. Mickie James and Dana Brooke then informed Alexa Bliss that they will be ringside to watch her match against Nia later tonight.

Kurt Angle came up to Corey Graves at the announce table with his phone. Angle and Graves had a discussion and then Graves returned to the announce table. Michael Cole asked Graves about the discussion but Graves ignored him.

Kurt Angle was shown walking backstage and still on his phone. Mike Rome approached him and asked where Angle was heading. Angle refused to answer and said it was a private matter. Angle left the building and Dean Ambrose snuck back in.

Kalisto vs Titus O’Neil

Kalisto defeated O’Neil quickly by rolling him up and grabbing his tights.

Winner: Kalisto

Reaction: I don’t understand how this feud is helping anyone involved.

The Miz was shown walking backstage. He stumbled upon Big Cass who was laying on the ground. Enzo then arrived and asked if anyone saw who attacked him. Cass then handed Enzo a chain that he apparently grabbed from the attacker.

Maryse was in the ring with someone in a bear costume holding a sign that read “congratulations”. The Miz came down to the ring and the crowd chanted “you deserve it!”. The Miz scolded the fans and said that they chant that for every Superstar who wins a title. The Miz raised a champagne glass and proposed a toast to himself and Maryse. The Miz thanked Maryse for bringing a dancing bear to the ring. Maryse informed Miz that she didn’t get the dancing bear.

The Miz then attacked the bear and delivered a Skull Crushing Finale. The Miz then removed the bear head and it was revealed to be a random person. The Miz then threw him out of the ring and a gigantic present was wheeled down to the ring. The Miz then hit the giant gift with a chair and delivered several Elbow Drops to it. Maryse shouted Miz that it was a gift from her but he continued attacking the present. It turned out that the gift was a grandfather clock because The Miz is timeless. Maryse then hit The Miz and ran backstage as Miz pleaded with her to stay. Ambrose then appeared behind Miz disguised as a cameraman. Ambrose then hit Miz with the Dirty Deeds and took the bottle of champagne backstage.

Reaction: While I’m bored with this feud, this promo was entertaining. I couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of The Miz delivering Elbow Drops to a gigantic present.

Gallows & Anderson vs Enzo & Big Show

Big Show played the role of Cass during the promo and it was was absolutely ridiculous. The promo went on way too long and Enzo rattled off about 9,000 jokes. Big Show dominated the match and connected with a Chokeslam on Karl Anderson. Big Show then tagged in Enzo and threw him onto Anderson for the victory.

Winners: Enzo & Big Show

Reaction: WWE buried Gallows and Anderson a long time ago. It was nice of them to dig them out for a bit only to bury them again. I hated this segment. It was done for cheap laughs and we probably won’t see Big Show for a long time again. Why are Gallows and Anderson booked like this? They are a solid tag team. It is not as if RAW and SmackDown are overflowing with talent in their tag team divisions. It just doesn’t make sense to have Gallows and Anderson be jobbers. They were badasses in NJPW and are now putting over Enzo and the ghost of Big Show on RAW. It just seems like a colossal waste of talent.

Big Cass confronted Big Show and Enzo backstage. Big Cass said maybe it was Big Show sneaking around backstage and attacking them. Enzo said that Big Show creaks on cement and Big Show stated that if he was going to attack someone, they would see it coming.

R-Truth responded to Goldust with a vignette.

Mike Rome interviewed Alexa Bliss backstage. Bliss referred to herself as a goddess and stated that she deserved to be treated better by the RAW women’s division.

RAW Women’s Championship Match: Alexa Bliss (c) vs Nia JAx

Mickie James and Dana Brooke were ringside for this match. Alexa slapped Nia in the face and Jax got pissed off. Nia launched Alexa across the ring a couple times as Mickie and Dana laughed. Nia then hit a Splash on Alexa in the corner. Alexa leaped onto Nia’s back but Nia threw her off and delivered a couple of elbows to Bliss while she was on the mat. Nia knocked Alexa out of the ring and Alexa attacked both Mickie and Dana. Mickie and Dana then punched Alexa and Nia Jax was disqualified.

Nia Jax then beatdown both Mickie and Dana for costing her the match.

Winner & Still RAW Women’s Champion: Alexa Bliss

Reaction: It was predictable that something like this was going to happen once Mickie and Dana announced that they would be ringside for this match. The match itself was a throwaway, but I’m not going to complain about the Alexa Bliss and Bayley feud being over.

Paul Heyman was shown backstage being attended to my the medical staff. Heyman’s phone rang and it was Brock Lesnar. Heyman stated that Lesnar needs to show up next week on RAW to confront Samoa Joe.

Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe

Rollins took down Joe early and connected with a series of punches. Joe connected with a headbutt and threw Rollins out of the ring. Rollins got right back in the ring and was knocked to the mat by an elbow from Joe. Rollins then got up and threw Joe out of the ring. Rollins went for a Suicide Dive but Joe was ready and kicked Seth in the knee. Joe then launched Rollins into the barricade outside the ring and kicked him in the chest.

Joe brought Rollins back in the ring and connected with a series of jabs in the corner. Rollins fought back but Joe connected with a kick to Rollins’ head that sent him to the mat as RAW went to a commercial break. When RAW returned, Samoa Joe was still in control of the match. Joe connected with an Atomic Drop and followed it up with a Senton for a two count.

Joe hit Rollins with a Powerslam for a two count. Joe continued the assault by hitting a series of chops. Rollins fought back and knocked Joe to the mat with a kick to his head. Joe rolled out of the ring and Rollins connected with a Suicide Dive. Rollins rolled Joe back in the ring and connected with another Slingblade. Joe once again rolled out of the ring and Rollins hit another Suicide Dive.

The action returned to the ring and Rollins connected with a Blockbuster off the second rope. Joe once again rolled out of the ring and Rollins connected with a third Suicide Dive. Back in the ring, Rollins connected with a Clothesline off the top rope for a two count. Rollins then planted Joe with an impressive Falcon Arrow for a two count.

Rollins knocked Joe to the mat with a kick to the face and climbed to the top rope. The lights in the arena went out and when the lights came on Rollins was looking for Bray Wyatt. Bray wasn’t there and Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch for the victory. Wyatt got his revenge on Rollins for insulting him early tonight and cost him the match.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Reaction: The main-event was an okay match. The best part of tonight’s RAW was the promo between Paul Heyman and Samoa Joe. The rest of the show just felt like a standard episode of RAW. At the very least, I am looking forward to see the build for the match between Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire. I really liked what happened tonight and next week it will be interesting to see Lesnar and Joe face to face on RAW.

I’m honestly not all that interested in who is attacking Big Cass and Enzo. I guess it is possible that Cass didn’t get attacked tonight and just made it seem like he did in order to trick Enzo. I hope it turns out to be someone that actually catches me off guard and surprises me. I’m looking for anything here to breath some life into the show. The Kurt Angle storyline is moving at a soap opera pace. All that happened tonight is that Angle showed something to Graves on his phone. I am just assuming that this will somehow tie into Stephanie McMahon returning to. RAW.

Overall, RAW wasn’t good tonight in my opinion. It just felt like more of the same. It appears that Rollins and Wyatt are now going to have a feud. I just figured that Balor and Wyatt would have a feud, given the fact that they teased that a lot earlier this year. Instead, Finn Balor wasn’t even on the show for some reason. The RAW Women’s division is very boring right now and the tag division is essentially The Hardys and Sheamus & Cesaro. There is just far too many storylines and feuds on RAW that I don’t care about simply because I haven’t been given a reason to care. SmackDown has the same exact problem right now, but at least RAW has the Lesnar and Joe storyline.

Taz Reveals he Almost Had a Huge Match With Brock Lesnar at MSG

5

Former WWE Superstar Taz almost had a massive match against current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at Madison Square Garden during his heyday.

On a recent episode of his show, The Taz Show, a fan called in to state that Taz vs. Brock Lesnar was actually one of his dream matches, to which Taz revealed was an actual possibility as Vince McMahon approached him with the idea during his days at the commentary booth on SmackDown:

Here’s what he had to say:

“Vince McMahon approached me about working with Brock at Madison Square Garden while I was a commentator there… I’m over there doing the commentary for the WWE at the SmackDown table several years ago. And Brock was just cooking up before, and basically, they were really building Brock up as this killing heel machine. This was before this whole suplex city thing they have going on. And I was, I don’t know what year this was, could have been 2006 or something like that. Somewhere in that world, 2007, something like that. Maybe 2005; I’m horrible with years.

“So, it was earlier in the day, it was probably around 3pm, and we’re at the arena. I’m sitting at the announce desk, and some guys are in the ring just working out, loosening up, stretching out, who’s doing this, who’s doing that. I’m doing some prep work, like I always do. Michael Cole is over there twiddling his thumbs, doing nothing. And I’m doing all the prep work (God, I wish he could hear this. He might listen to the show. I should text him, because he would flag on me, because everything I just said was a little bit of a lie [laughs]).

“So, I’m sitting there with Cole, and he’s writing stuff up, and Vince walks by, he’s just watching and checking on some of the people who are working out. He was talking to some of the agents, they were doing a rehearsal or something. So Vince slips over to my area, at the announce desk, and he’s like, ‘Hey, uh, can we talk for a minute?’ [And I thought I was going to be fired]. So I walk over there in the corner with Vince, and he goes, ‘Listen. This is big. You ready?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah. I’m ready. What’s up?’

“He goes, ‘You and Lesnar do something at the [Madison Square] Garden. I’d be great. You would come back, do a match at the Garden, we’ll plug it, push it.’ I go, ‘Vince. No thank you. I love Brock, I love you, and I love the company, but I can’t do it. I’m banged up, I got a lot of numbers to my body. I’m just, physically, I’d be too risky for me to do.’ He goes, ‘No, I know that. We’ll work around it, we’ll do business.’ [I told him], ‘Vince. I’m not what I was. I can’t go be what I was, and I don’t want to put myself at risk.’

“And he was cool, [then] he goes, ‘I understand, but, you know what? I never knew you were this terrible as a businessman. Just horrible. What is wrong with you?’ He just started ripping me. ‘You don’t even know how much I was willing to pay you!’

Taz ended off by saying he told Vince that it wasn’t about the money, but that he simply couldn’t get back to the old character he used to be. Furthermore, Taz said McMahon would get upset when people don’t do good business. Taz said that he wasn’t worried about fighting Lesnar but was instead more concerned with his health.
