Kurt Angle Named New RAW General Manager, Superstar Shake-Up Announced

37

Vince McMahon appeared on Monday’s post-WrestleMania RAW from Orlando and made two big announcements. Vince said it’s time to “shake things up” with the RAW and SmackDown rosters. He did not specifically mention a draft, but expect to see some high-profile trades starting next week.

With Mick Foley being relieved of his duties as RAW General Manager, Vince also announced that the new RAW GM will be somebody who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this past weekend. Teddy Long came out, but Vince informed Teddy that he’s not the new GM. The new General Manager of RAW is none other than Kurt Angle.

WWE RAW Results & Live Discussion (4/3)

2,612

The April 3rd edition of WWE RAW was the first episode after WrestleMania 33 and aired live from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

– RAW opens up with a video highlighting Roman Reigns’ victory over The Undertaker last night, and Undertaker’s exit. We go into the arena and the crowd is chanting Undertaker’s name. Reigns’ music starts playing and the crowd immediately begins booing him. Every time Reigns goes to speak, the crowd starts another chant against him. Reigns finally says “This is my yard now,” drops the mic, and walks backstage.

– Michael Cole, Byron Saxton and Corey Graves explain that the crowd immediately after WrestleMania is always hot and they may “cheer who they usually boo, and boo who they usually cheer.”

Matt & Jeff Hardy (c) def. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson: The Champions come out of the gate strong and Matt Hardy hits the Side Effect on Anderson early on. Matt and Jeff clothesline both Anderson and Gallows out to ringside as the crowd starts a “delete” chant. Back in the ring, Gallows and Anderson double team Matt with a back suplex into a neckbreaker. The crowd chants “F–k that owl” as Gallows and Anderson continue working on Matt. Jeff gets the hot tag and goes right to work on Gallows with right hands and flying forearm. Hardy follows up with an inverted atomic 0., then things go out to ringside. Jeff uses the ring steps to hit the Poetry In Motion on Gallows up against the fan barricade. Back in the ring, Anderson and Gallows hit the Boot Of Doom for a two count on Jeff. Matt interrupts a Magic Killer and Jeff hits a Twist of Fate on Gallows and a leg drop on Anderson. Matt tags in and hits a Twist of Fate on Gallows, then Jeff hits the Swanton Bomb for the win.

Neville def. Mustafa Ali: Neville starts off strong, but Ali quickly bounces back with a spinning heel kick that sends Neville out to the floor at ringside. Ali follows up with a springboard moonsault onto Neville on the floor before taking things back in the ring. Neville fights back until Ali hits a kick to the head, then he rolls into a neckbreaker on Neville. The crowd appears to be distracted by something off-camera. Neville comes back with a German suplex and a lariat for a near-fall. Neville takes Ali up to the top rope, but Ali takes him down with a springboard Spanish Fly into the ring. Ali hits a series of elbows and kicks, but Neville comes back with a kick of his own that drops Ali. Ali comes back with a kick and a reverse hurricanrana, and he follows up with a tornado DDT. Ali pins but Neville gets his foot on the rope. Ali goes for an inverted 450, but Neville rolls out of the way. Neville goes up top for a Red Arrow, but Neville changes his mind and comes down and locks Ali in the Rings of Saturn for the win.

– We see a limo pull up backstage, and out gets WWE Chairman Vince McMahon! McMahon walks into the arena as we go to commercial.

– “No Chance In Hell” hits in the arena and Mr. McMahon struts down to the ring. He gets a big pop from the crowd and they sing along with his entrance music. Before McMahon starts talking, the crowd chants “Roman sucks” at him. Vince says he wants to give a well-deserved thank you to the WWE fans. Vince says it’s time for a “superstar shakeup” and they will mix things up a bit. Vince shows footage of his daughter Stephanie being bumped through a table at WrestleMania. Vince says Stephanie will be out of action for some time, which gets a positive reaction from the crowd. Vince plays it up and gets more cheers from the crowd about Stephanie’s injury. Vince tells the crowd they’re being bloodthirsty, which gets a pop. Vince says since Foley was fired and Stephanie was injured, it’s time to name a new general manager. Vince says this new GM was just inducted into the Hall of Fame, then Teddy Long’s music hits, which seems to surprise Vince. Vince demands for his music to be cut, and he orders Teddy to stop dancing. Vince tells Teddy it’s not him, and Teddy says “my bad, holla holla” and leaves. Vince introduces the real new GM, but no music plays. Vince introduces him again, and this time introduces him by name: Kurt Angle. Angle’s music hits and the Olympic gold medalist makes his way down to the ring in a suit. Vince tells Kurt he’s glad he made it, and tells him he better do a good job, then leaves. The crowd pops huge for Angle and gives him his usual “you suck” chant. Angle says it’s great to be back on Monday Night RAW, it’s true, it’s damn true. Angle heads backstage to get to work, and Cole says on commentary that the “superstar shakeup” will happen next week.

– The New Day comes out to the ring and they say the only downside of hosting WrestleMania last night was they couldn’t wrestle. So tonight they say they’re offering an open challenge to anyone in the back who thinks they can take them out. The Revival from NXT makes their debut to answer the challenge.

The Revival def. Xavier Woods: Xavier and Big E will be representing The New Day in this one. The Revival works on Xavier in the opening minutes of the match and appear to be working on Xavier’s left arm. Dash goes for a superplex but Xavier fights out and follows up with a missile dropkick. Dawson and Big E tag in, and Big E hits a series of belly to belly suplexes. Big E tries to spear Dawson through the ropes, but Dawson moves and Big E crashes onto the ringside floor. Woods and Dawson trade elbows to the face in the ring until Dash tags in. The Revival hits the Shatter Machine on Xavier for the win in their RAW debut. After the match, they beat down Kofi and try to injure his ankle.

– Kurt Angle is backstage unpacking a box of his things when Enzo and Cass interrupt to introduce themselves. Enzo and Cass say they want a shot at the tag title, so Angle books them in a #1 contender match against Sheamus and Cesaro. After Enzo and Cass walk away, Angle realizes they misspelled “soft.”

Bayley, Sasha Banks & Dana Brooke def. Emma, Nia Jax & Charlotte: Emma stands on the announce table before her entrance. Emma starts things off with offense on both Dana and Bayley. Bayley comes back with an arm drag and a drop toe hold. Emma tags in Nia who takes control of things against Bayley before tagging in Charlotte. Charlotte lays into Bayley with chops, then hangs her upside down in the corner and stomps on her. Emma tags back in and stomps on Bayley and pulls her hair. Charlotte tags back in and hits a series of knees and chops on Bayley. Sasha tags in and cleans house. She hits a spinning headscissors on Charlotte and follows up with running knee strikes in the corner. Sasha follows up with a double knee drop off the middle rope for a two count. Dana and Sasha take out Nia with a double dropkick, then Bayley hits a cross body on Nia at ringside. Charlotte goes for a Natural Selection on Sasha in the ring, but Sasha dodges it and locks in the Banks Statement on Charlotte for the win. After the match, Charlotte blames both Emma and Nia for the loss. Nia beats down Charlotte and Emma heads backstage.

– Sami Zayn is backstage telling Kurt Angle he wants to cultivate a good relationship him like he had with Foley. Angle says Sami has the three I’s: Intelligence, Intensity, and Integrity. Jinder Mahal interrupts and complains he got screwed over by Gronk at WrestleMania. Sami takes issue with Jinder interrupting him, so Angle says they’re going to settle their problems in the ring tonight and wants them to get out of his face.

– WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman are out to the ring next. Heyman gets on the mic and says that after Goldberg’s trip to suplex city he won’t be around anymore, which gets a pop from the crowd. Heyman says now that Goldberg is out of the way, Lesnar needs new challengers. Heyman mentions Seth Rollins, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy as possible opponents. Heyman says Lesnar isn’t going to cherish the Championship belt and take selfies with it, Lesnar is going to disrupt the status quo. Heyman says since Lesnar and Reigns both beat Undertaker at WrestleMania, they should face off to see whose yard it really is. Heyman says Lesnar wants to do something tonight that everyone will remember, but before Heyman can continue he is interrupted by Braun Strowman’s music. Strowman makes his way down to the ring and says he’s going to destroy Roman Reigns to get Lesnar’s attention, because Lesnar has his attention with the Universal Title. Strowman and Lesnar stare each other down and Lesnar challenges Strowman to come at him. Strowman backs down and heads backstage.

– Chris Jericho is backstage where he does an interview about getting a U.S. Title rematch against Owens in four weeks at Payback. Jericho says the RAW after WrestleMania is one of his favorite nights of the year. Jericho says he’s going to get his revenge against that stupid idiot Kevin Owens tonight in a tag match tonight with Seth Rollins against the team of Owens and Samoa Joe. Jericho puts “the tip of Kevin Owens’ finger” on The List, but then Owens attacks him and they brawl through the backstage area. Samoa Joe joins Owens and they beat down Jericho together. Owens powerbombs Jericho through a table in the back, then a referee tries to pull away Joe and Owens.

– Kurt Angle is seen leaving the trainer’s office and then telling Rollins that Jericho is injured and can’t wrestle tonight. Angle assures Rollins that he’ll find a replacement partner for him tonight.

Sheamus & Cesaro def. Enzo & Cass: The winner of this one gets a shot at Matt & Jeff Hardy’s Tag Team Titles. Enzo and Cass hit some double team moves on both Sheamus and Cesaro early on, which leads to Cass throwing Enzo down onto Sheamus and Cesaro at ringside. Back in the ring, Sheamus takes control of things against Enzo with a rolling senton. Cass and Cesaro get into it at ringside, and Sheamus hits a dropkick through the ropes on Cass. In the ring, Enzo hits a tornado DDT on Sheamus, but Cass is still down. Cesaro tags in and hits a running uppercut on Enzo, followed up by the swing. Cesaro locks Enzo in the Sharpshooter, but Cass breaks it up with a big boot, then kicks Sheamus out to ringside. Cass goes back outside and lets Enzo tag him in. Cass hits two running splashes on Cesaro in the corner, followed up by a side walk slam and an elbow drop. Cass hits a big boot, then tags in Enzo. They attempt the Bada Boom, but Sheamus big boots Cass, then throws Enzo off the top rope into a European uppercut from Cesaro. Cesaro pins for the three count, and now Cesaro and Sheamus get a shot at the Tag Titles.

– We get a look at some the reactions on Twitter to The Undertaker’s loss at WrestleMania last night.

Sami Zayn def. Jinder Mahal: We’re shown highlights of Jinder Mahal’s run-in with Gronk from the New England Patriots at WrestleMania. Jinder knocks Sami off the apron during his entrance and beats him down around ringside before the bell. Back in the ring, the referee calls for the opening bell and Jinder continues the offense on Sami. Sami dodges a splash in the corner and comes back with a t-bone suplex and the Heluva Kick for the win.

– A graphic is shown with Kurt Angle and Daniel Bryan promoting the “superstar shake-up” between the RAW and SmackDown rosters next week.

Seth Rollins & Finn Balor def. Kevin Owens & Samoa Joe: Owens and Rollins start things off, but Joe quickly tags in and takes control of things. Rollins fights back with chops to the chest, but Joe shuts him down with a kick to the body. Owens beats on Rollins in the corner and taunts Balor. Rollins fights back and tags in Balor. Balor unloads with offense on Owens with a dropkick then a kick to the head. Owens rolls out to ringside but Finn chases him out and hits a running dropkick that sends Owens crashing into the fan barricade. Rollins tags in and this leads to Rollins hitting a suicide 450 splash dive onto Owens and Joe at ringside. Back in the ring, Owens targets Rollins’ knee then hits a DDT. Samoa Joe tags in and tees off on Rollins with strikes in the corner. Joe drops Rollins and starts working on his bad knee. Joe attempts the Coquina Clutch on Rollins, but Rollins gets out and hits a spinning heel kick on Joe. Balor and Owens tag in and Balor cleans house with forearm shots. Balor hits a dropkick on Owens then hits a series of chops to the chest. Balor drops both Owens and Joe with kicks to the head. After a series of reverals, Balor hits the sling blade. Balor goes for a dropkick, but Joe intercepts him with a Coquina Cluch. Rollins knocks down Joe with a flying knee to the head, then Owens superkicks Rollins. Balor drops Owens then hits a flying double foot stomp off the top for the win. Owens and Joe retreat up the ramp while Rollins raises Balor’s hand in the ring and RAW goes off the air.

Undertaker’s Last Ride: Wrestling World Reacts To Dead Man’s Goodbye

82

The main event of Sunday’s WrestleMania 33 pay-per-view saw Roman Reigns defeat The Undertaker in what appears to be the Undertaker’s final match ever. After suffering his second loss at WrestleMania, The Undertaker eventually sat up in the ring and took a few minutes to collect himself and take in the moment. After putting his jacket, gloves and hat back on, he began to exit the ring before pausing and turning around.

He proceeded to take off his gear and place them in the ring, the symbol of a fighter hanging it up one final time. The Undertaker exited the ring, embraced his wife Michelle McCool at ringside and then walked to the entrance ramp. As he was walking up the ramp, he paused, raised his fist and received a tremendous ovation from the crowd.

Smoke surrounded The Undertaker as he slowly descended under the ramp. This almost certainly marks the end of Undertaker’s career and what a career it was.

The Undertaker’s gear remained in the ring for over a half hour untouched while the ring and stage were deconstructed.

The Latest On NXT Superstars Coming To The Main Roster

33

Coming out of TakeOver: Orlando on Saturday night, WWE officials have plans to call several NXT Superstars to the main roster soon.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Andrade “Cien” Almas, Shinsuke Nakamura and Tye Dillinger are set for call-ups to either RAW or SmackDown soon. Meltzer also speculated on The Revival coming up from NXT.

On a related note, it appears Elias Samson’s call up has been delayed or possibly nixed. Samson was believed to be headed to the main roster after recently losing a Loser Leaves NXT match to Kassius Ohno but Meltzer indicated that the call up may not be happening as soon as originally expected.

Details On The Hardys Returning At WrestleMania 33, Jeff Hurting Before The Show

19

The Hardy Boys didn’t arrive to the Citrus Bowl for their big WWE return at WrestleMania 33 last night until really late in the show. It was no secret that fans had been speculating on Matt and Jeff making a WrestleMania appearance but there were leaks from backstage that Matt and Jeff were at the show.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Jeff was really hurting and was really beat up going into the match after his performance at ROH SuperCard of Honor on Saturday night. The Hardys dropped the ROH Tag Team Championships to The Young Bucks in a Ladder Match that night.

The Hardys actually went to their hotel during WrestleMania and talked with people in the lobby. Jeff reportedly told some that he needed to go to his room and rest because he was hurting. While he appeared to be going to his room, The Hardys left their hotel and went to the Citrus Bowl for WrestleMania instead.

Jim Ross Negotiating Full-Time WWE Contract?

19

After WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross returned to the announcer’s booth to call the main event of WrestleMania 33, it appears we could be seeing more of good old JR in the future.

Dave Meltzer appeared on the Live Audio Wrestling radio show last night and expressed his  understanding that Jim Ross is negotiating a full-time return to WWE.

Jim Ross’ WWE Role

According to Meltzer the contract negotiations are for a full time gig, but he still doesn’t believe Ross would be on either Raw or Smackdown. It could be that Ross comes in for PPVs, or perhaps just the big four PPVs.

Meltzer also believes a big part of Ross’ deal with WWE comes by way of the company not wanting Ross to be involved with the World of Sport project in the UK. It was also reported by Meltzer that Ross’ current WWE deal should not impact his role broadcasting NJPW on AXS TV.

WrestleMania Stage Catches Fire During Undertaker’s Exit

49

Several fans in attendance last night at WrestleMania are sending in videos of the stage catching fire. It appears as though the fire started during the pyro for Undertaker’s curtain-call.

Undertaker’s Gloves, Hat and Coat

It is also being reported that Undertaker’s gloves, hat and coat were all still neatly folded in the ring 30min after the show had ended.

Matt and Jeff Hardy Celebrate Championship Win Backstage

23

In the last few weeks Matt and Jeff Hardy have played a major role in TNA, ROH and now WWE. The legendary tag team made their return to the company last night after 7 years. The WrestleMania win comes 23 years after Matt first appeared on WWE programming.

WWE posted the following to their YouTube channel after the match:

Will Matt Hardy Be Using the #BROKEN Gimmick?

Judging by the above video Matt Hardy still plans on using elements of his BROKEN character. This could mean they have reached a deal with Anthem, or more likely the case is that WWE isn’t worried about any legal action from TNA’s new owners. A third option is that these were just videos which went out on YouTube, and Matt and Jeff probably just did whatever they wanted.

WWE also posted video of the Hardy brothers before the show.

Naomi Captures SmackDown Women’s Championship At WrestleMania

13

The final title change at WrestleMania 33 on Sunday saw Naomi capture the SmackDown Women’s Championship in her hometown.

Naomi won the Six-Pack Challenge over former champion Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch, Mickie James, Carmella and Natalya. Naomi becomes a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion with the win.

Below are photos and video from the match:

Seth Rollins Emotional After Victory Over Triple H, AJ Styles Has WWE Championship In His Sights

30

Seth Rollins defeated Triple H in a non-sanctioned match last night at Wrestlemania 33. The match was very physical and was one of the better matches on the show. Even if Rollins isn’t completely healthy, he proved just how good he is. Rollins defeated Triple H by hitting a Pedigree. Triple H was distracted because Stephanie McMahon had just fallen through a table and Rollins took advantage of it. We will see if The Authority versus Seth Rollins storyline continues tonight on Monday Night Raw.

WWE has uploaded a video of Rollins being interviewed backstage after the match. Rollins stated that there was a point that he thought he was never going to be able to wrestle again or get back to the level he was at before the injury. Rollins became emotional while discussing what Wrestlemania 33 meant to him. Rollins referred to Triple H as his mentor and gave him a lot of respect.

Styles and Shane McMahon kicked off Wrestlemania 33 and put on a very entertaining match. Shane McMahon wound up being his own worst enemy as he missed a Shooting Star Press and fell hard to the mat. Styles then hit the Phenomenal Forearm for the victory. After the match, AJ Styles said Shane McMahon gave him an unbelievable match. AJ then stated that he wants his WWE Championship back. Randy Orton defeated Bray Wyatt to capture the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 33. It looks like Styles will be coming after Orton on Smackdown this Tuesday night.

Kickoff Show:

Cruiserweight Championship Match: Neville (c) vs Austin Aries

https://twitter.com/SimpleSaeed/status/848655530969223169

The crowd chanted “Austin Aries!” right when the match started. Neville knocked Aries to the mat and taunted the crowd. Aries took control of the match and Neville rolled out of the ring. Aries then rested across the top rope as Nevile angrily looked on. Neville returned to the ring and Aries connected with a Dropkick. Aries then climbed to the second rope and hit an Elbow Drop to the Neville’s back. Neville rolled out of the ring and Aries pumped up the crowd. Aries went for a Suicide Dive but Neville was ready for it and kicked Aries in the face just as he reached the ropes.

Neville hit a Dropkick off the top rope for a two count. Neville missed a Moonsault off the second rope and Aries capitalized and hit an Elbow Drop. Aries launched Neville outside the ring and climbed to the top rope. Aries hit a Crossbody then sprinted back in the ring and hit a Suicide Dive on Neville outside the ring. Back in the ring, Neville connected with a kick to the face and then perched Aries up on the top turnbuckle. Aries shoved Neville off but Neville landed on his feet. Aries then hit a Dropkick off the top rope for a two count.

Neville planted Aries with a snap German Suplex and Aries landed hard on the top of his head. Neville planted Aries with another German Suplex and bridged into the cover for a two count. Neville then stood over Aries and kicked him in the back of the head a few times. Neville then stomped on Aries in the corner as the referee yelled at him to back up. Neville dragged Aries to the middle of the ring and went for the Rings of Saturn but Aries reversed it into a roll up for a two count. Aries then hit the Discus Fivearm but Neville fell out of the ring.

https://twitter.com/HEEL_TEM/status/848654255313604612

Aries brought Neville back in the ring but Neville rolled to the ring apron. Neville then connected with a kick to Aries’ head and Austin fell to the mat. Neville then climbed to the top turnbuckle but Aries got back up and joined him there. Aries then hit a Hurricanrana off the top turnbuckle and then climbed to the top turnbuckle on the other side of the ring. Aries then hit a 450 Splash for a two count. Aries applied The Last Chancery but Neville raked Aries injured eye. Neville then climbed to the top turnbuckle and hit the Red Arrow for the victory.

Winner & Still Cruiserweight Champion: Neville

Reaction: Hell of a way to kickoff Wrestlemania 33. I still wish this match was on the main card but Aries and Neville put on a great match. For now, Neville is still the King of the Cruiserweights.

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Braun Strowman, Sami Zayn, Goldust, R-Truth, Curtis Axel, Dolph Ziggler, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Chad Gable, Jason Jordan, Primo, Epico, Bo Dallas, Jinder Mahal, Rhyno, Heath Slater, Apollo Crews, Mojo Rawley, Big Show, Curt Hawkins, Tyler Breeze, Fandango, Tian Bing, Mark Henry, Killian Dain & Luke Harper

Big Show and Braun Strowman eliminated a bunch of people right away including, Goldust, Heath Slater and Kalisto. Jey Use was then eliminated. Strowman and Big Show had a stare down in the middle of the ring. Sami Zayn attacked Strowman and a brawl broke out. Strowman then eliminated Big Show very early in the match. Everyone else in the Battle Royal then teamed up and eliminated Braun Strowman. Dolph Ziggler eliminated R-Truth. Dolph Ziggler followed that up by eliminating Rhyno.

Aiden English, Jimmy Use and Curtis Axel were then eliminated. Both members of American Alpha were then eliminated. Both members of Breezango and Sin Cara were eliminated. Everyone teamed up to eliminate Mark Henry. Ziggler connected with a Superkick to eliminate Tian Bing. Zayn hit a Helluva Kick to eliminate Epico. Bo Dallas was eliminated. Mojo Rawley launched Ziggler out of the ring to eliminate him. Titus O’Neil eliminated Luke Harper.

It was down to Mojo, Titus, Zayn, Dain and Jinder Mahal. Sami Zayn eliminated Titus O’Neil. Killian Rain eliminated Sami Zayn. Jinder threw Mojo threw the second rope and followed him out of the ring. Rob Gronkowski was in the front row and began shouting at Mahal. Jinder and Gronk had a stare down. Jinder then took Gronk’s beer and threw it at him. Gronk then climbed over the barricade and security grabbed him. Gronk then got into the ring and got down in a football stance. Gronk then leveled Jinder with a shoulder tackle. Mojo then eliminated Killian Dain and Jinder Mahal to win the Battle Royal.

Gronk and Mojo then celebrated in the ring after the match.

Winner: Mojo Rawley

Reaction: This was goofy as hell but entertaining to watch. I was pretty shocked that both Big Show and Braun Strowman were eliminated so early in the match. Mojo Rawley winning this match makes sense and hopefully he gets a push on Smackdown. I’ve never taken the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal seriously so I was able to enjoy the ridiculousness that took place in this match.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Dean Ambrose (c) vs Baron Corbin

Corbin started out this match dominant and shoved Ambrose into the ring post. Corbin controlled the next several minutes of the match and launched Ambrose into the barricade outside the ring. Back in the ring, Corin charged at Ambrose in the corner but Dean got out of the way and Corbin hit the ring post. Ambrose then climbed to the top turnbuckle and went for an Elbow Drop but Corbin got out of the way and Ambrose landed on his ribs.

Corbin charged at Ambrose and missed and tumbled out of the ring. Ambrose tried to jump on him but Corbin leveled him with a right hand. Corbin once again charged at Ambrose, missed and smashed into the steel steps. Ambrose then hit an Elbow Drop off the top rope onto Corbin outside the ring. Back in the ring, Ambrose connected with a Neckbreaker for a two count. Corbin planted Ambrose with Deep Six for a two count. Corbin then went for the End of Days but Ambrose reversed it into the Dirty Deeds for the victory.

Winner & Still Intercontinental Champion: Dean Ambrose

Reaction: Ambrose and Corbin were in a tough spot here because the crowd was absolutely dead for this match. This match was obviously moved to the Kickoff Show to make room for the Smackdown Women’s Championship.  The build to this match wasn’t all that good but I was still expecting more. There was nothing special about this match whatsoever. I thought it was time for Corbin to become Intercontinental Champion but it was not to be. I’m fine with Ambrose as IC Champion but I’d like to see them actually do something with the title. The Miz did a great job of building that title back up and now it is back to feeling unimportant. I thought giving Corbin the title and having him be unstoppable on Smackdown would have been the way to go here. Instead, Corbin loses clean and this match felt like a throwaway.

Reaction: I was hoping that this match would have been better but it was still solid. Jericho’s current run in the WWE is pretty much over as he is off to record a new Fozzy album. He had an awesome run and I hope he comes back soon. Hopefully we get to see the real Kevin Owens now during this title reign. His Universal Championship reign was far too goofy. It took a miracle for him to win a match without any assistance. Hopefully we get to see the Kevin Owens that will win at any cost and take care of business himself.

Reaction: This match was very good. Most people figured that the only way Nia Jax would be eliminated is if everyone teamed up on her and that is exactly what happened. There was no Sasha Banks heel turn tonight so maybe that will happen tomorrow night on Raw. It was cool to see Bayley pay tribute to Macho Man at the end of the match.

Reaction: I thought this match would be nothing more than a glorified brawl due to Rollins’ injury. I was completely wrong and this match turned out to be great. It was a very physical match and told a great story. Rollins was determined to win tonight and there was nothing Triple H could do about it. Also, it was great to see Stephanie McMahon fall through a table.

Winner & New WWE Champion: Randy Orton

Reaction: The bugs in the ring was cool the first time and then it gold old. This match was very bad. It was lame and Bray Wyatt’s title reign was incredibly underwhelming. I’m not excited for another Randy Orton title reign either. The build to this match was contrived and ridiculous. Never in my wildest nightmares did I think that they would come up with a match even more ridiculous than the build was.

It is possible to have a dark character like Bray Wyatt and not saddle him with these ridiculous scenarios. How about just have a wrestling match? Bray Wyatt won the Elimination Chamber and wasn’t assisted by a swarm of CGI bees. He simply just won the match. I sarcastically wrote in my predictions that a lightning bolt would hit the ring post and Sister Abigail would appear. I actually wish that happened now, rather than bugs appearing in the ring. Even after all those theatrics, Randy Orton still won with a simple RKO. So, what exactly was the point of doing that? This was easily the worst match of the night so far and that includes the Kickoff Show.

Lesnar then hit the F-5 for the victory.

Winner & New Universal Champion: Brock Lesnar

Reaction: The match went exactly how everyone expected it to. It was a few Spears, a Jackhammer, a bunch of German Suplexes and an F-5. This was probably the best match these two could have together. I’m just glad this feud is over.

The Undertaker walked up the entrance ramp and raised his fist towards the top. Fog then appeared and The Undertaker was lowered under the entrance ramp.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Reaction: I enjoyed this match. It had some rough moments but I thought it was well done. The negative reaction  to Roman Reigns winning the match was over quickly  once the audience realized that The Undertaker was done. It was time for The Undertaker to go. Father Time remains undefeated and his body was wearing down. Having said that, I still do not want to accept it. The Undertaker is one of the main reasons I am a wrestling fan. I find it devastating that we won’t get to see him perform at Wrestlemania anymore. There will never be anyone like The Undertaker in WWE again. He is irreplaceable. Thank you Taker for everything.

Tim Wiese Leaving WWE Developmental, Returning to European Football

9

German wrestling fans will be sad to learn that former national team goalkeeper Tim Wiese is putting his professional wrestling career on hold to return to football.

The 35-year old former Bundesliga star had only recently made his in-ring debut with the company at a November house show in Munich. German media is now reporting that Wiese plans on leaving WWE developmental to return to European football.

Tim Wiese and WWE

At 6ft4in and 260lbs, Wiese has an imposing presence. He claims he received an offer from WWE shortly after retiring from football in 2014. Wiese wouldn’t sign with WWE until 2016 however.

Despite his popularity in Europe, Wiese has opted to return to football. He recently signed with minor league football club SSV Dillingen. While he is only saying he is putting his pro-wrestling ambitions “on hold”, he is already in his mid-30s. A return to WWE developmental down the line seems unlikely considering his age.
