Lucha Underground’s Son of Havoc (Matt Cross) Injured

7

Popular Lucha Underground star Son of Havoc/Matt Cross announced on Twitter recently that he has a broken leg.

He is scheduled to meet an orthopaedic doctor today to find out how long he will be out of action for.

16-Year Career Peaking

The 36-year old Cross began his pro-wrestling career in 2001 under the name M-Dogg 20. He would spend two years wrestling with the hardcore promotion Combat Zone Wrestling from 2002-04. He also appeared in Ring of Honor under the name Matt Cross from 2006-09.

Cross would wrestle some tryout matches for the WWE in 2010. He would also participate in the re-vamped season of Tough Enough. Surprisingly he was eliminated on the second week of the show. He would make some contacts on that show that would eventually land him a spot in Lucha Underground however, namely LU head writer Chris DeJoseph.

After appearing on the very first episode of Lucha Underground, under the name “Son of Havoc”, he has become one of the show’s most popular luchadors. The broken leg should not impact his ability to tape episodes for LU, considering they are most likely not filming again until the fall.

Former WWE Broadcaster Mike Adamle Diagnosed With Dementia, Doctors Suspect CTE

23

Former WWE announcer and RAW General Manager Mike Adamle has been diagnosed with dementia and what doctors believe could be Chronic Traumatic Encephelopathy, also known as CTE. He is also said to be suffering from post-traumatic epileptic seizures.

While the 67-year old is most well-known to wrestling fans for his run in the WWE in 2008, Adamle spent six seasons in the NFL. He played with the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears during his NFL career. He later was a broadcaster with NBC Sports.

NBC Chicago Interview

Adamle revealed his diagnosis during a recent interview with NBC Chicago. Video and a full transcript can be found here.

“I’ve had seizures and epilepsy for the last 19 years.” Adamle revealed.

He was not able to answer how many concussions he suffered throughout his football career. In the early-70s, when he was playing in the NFL, not much attention was given to the long-term impacts of head injuries.

“You went to the sideline, ‘How many fingers do I have?’” Adamle told NBC Chicago. “And no one thought anything of it. No big deal. I’m sure a lot of guys still don’t think it’s a big deal. Now they’re saying it’s a big deal.”

Part two of his interview with NBC airs tonight.

Kurt Angle: Thinks He’ll Wrestle For WWE Again, The UFC Career That Never Was

12

2017 WWE Hall of Fame inductee Kurt Angle joined Busted Open with Dave LaGreca and Larry Dallas earlier this week. The guys sent in audio clips from the main topics, which you can hear below.

Kurt promoted his new AngleStrong initiative and mobile app and really dove into his addiction and how he handled it. He also believes that if back in ’96 if the UFC had been the billion dollar company that it is now, he probably would have chosen a career in MMA.

https://soundcloud.com/siriusxmrush/kurt-angle-on-anglestrong-his-addiction-and-if-he-would-have-gone-to-ufc

Kurt also discussed the current WWE roster and who he would want to face at a potential Wrestlemania match-up down the line, the way Roman Reigns has been booked and what he thinks of him in the ring (which he’s been very outspoken on) and John Cena’s 14 year career and how he’s been able to stay on top for so long.

https://soundcloud.com/siriusxmrush/kurt-angle-on-a-future-wm-opponent-roman-reigns-booking-and-john-cenas-longevity

Finally, and most importantly, Kurt goes into detail on his conversation with Triple H about his plans for wrestling for the WWE in the future. He says “Triple H and I did not talk about wrestling for the WWE after Wrestlemania. Do I think it will happen? Yes. But nothing is for sure right now.” He also comments on what it’s been like wrestling on the indie scene, mentions matches with Zack Sabre Jr., Cody Rhodes, Alberto Del Rio in the UK this weekend for WCPW, and Joe Coffey.

WWE Smackdown & 205 Live Reaction (2/7)

Smackdown 2/7/17

Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan kicked off the show in his hometown. The crowd erupted as he did the “yes!” chant all the way down to the ring. Daniel Bryan said that the last time he was here, he had to announce his retirement. Daniel Bryan said that he was grateful to be Smackdown GM and that he was going to try and give them the best show possible. Daniel Bryan also said that he was grateful that he was going to be a dad soon. The Miz then interrupted and came down to the ring. The crood booed him out of the building. The Miz mocked Daniel Bryan and insisted that he should become a stay-at-home dad. The Miz insulted Daniel Bryan and said that he cannot wrestle anymore and doesn’t understand why he is still in the WWE. Daniel Bryan fired back and stated that The Miz can’t wrestle either and that never stopped him. The Miz tried to come back but the entire crowd was chanting “Daniel Bryan!”.

Baron Corbin then joined the party and told The Miz to shut up. The Miz suggested that he and Corbin should work together at the Elimination Chamber. Corbin didn’t seem to like that idea and threatened to punch The Miz in the face. The Miz responded by hiding behind Maryse. Dean Ambrose then came down to the ring. Ambrose said that he cannot take The Miz seriously when he is wearing his ridiculous robe and stated that The Miz looked like a shoe. AJ Styles then came down to the ring. The entire crowd started to chant “AJ Styles!” and Styles told them to shut up. Styles claimed that he was getting his WWE Championship back at the Elimination Chamber. Daniel Bryan announced that their will be a Fatal 4-Way match that starts right now.

Fatal 4-Way Match: The Miz vs Baron Corbin vs Dean Ambrose vs AJ Styles

Corbin and Ambrose battled in the ring and Ambrose launched Corbin out of the ring. Ambrose then Clotheslined The Miz out of the ring. Ambrose then knocked Styles out of the ring and set up for a Suicide Dive. Corbin dragged Ambrose out of the ring and threw him into the steel steps outside the ring. Back in the ring, Styles tried to leap onto Corbin but Baron punched him in the face. The Miz hit a DDT on Styles.

The Miz then did the “yes!” chant and connected with several kicks to Ambrose and Styles. The crowd chanted “no!” with every kick. The Miz, Styles and Ambrose all unsuccessfully tried to roll each other up. Corbin and Ambrose connected with a Clothesline and both men fell to the mat. Smackdown went to a commercial break with everyone knocked down in the middle of the ring.

Smackdown came back from a commercial break with Baron Corbin slamming everyone to the mat off the top turnbuckle. The Miz charged at Corbin and he connected with the Deep Six for a two count. Styles connected with the Phenomenal Forearm on The Miz but Maryse dragged him out of the ring. Corbin then planted Styles with the End of Days for the victory.

Winner: Baron Corbin

Reaction: The promo to start off the show was good but the Fatal 4-Way match was even better. That was one hell of a match and I didn’t that finish coming at all. Baron Corbin continues to impress and I cannot wait to see what happens in the Elimination Chamber match on Sunday.

Luke Harper had a video promo and accused Randy Orton of being a liar. Harper said that Orton stole his family and that he wanted to hurt Orton. Harper said that at the Elimination Chamber, Randy Orton will be eliminated.

Natalya and Nikki Bella had an interview via satellite. Natalya said that at the Elimination Chamber, she is going to put Nikki Bella on the shelf like her pregnant sister. Nikki called Natalya a crazy cat lady.

Dolph Ziggler vs Apollo Crews

This match was very quick. Crews scored the victory with a roll up pin. After the match, Ziggler hit Crews with a Super Kick and then grabbed a chair from outside the ring. Ziggler hit Crews a couple of times with the chair. Kalisto finally came out for the save but Ziggler hit him with a chair as well. The crowd chanted “one more time!” and Ziggler obliged by hitting Crews once more with the chair. After the match, Daniel Bryan announced that Ziggler will face Crews and Kalisto in a Handicap Match.

Winner: Apollo Crews

Dual Contract Signing w/ Alexa Bliss, Naomi, Becky Lynch & Mickie James

I never thought it would be possible, but tonight was the first ever dual contract signing! Mickie started off the segment by complimenting Alexa Bliss. Mickie then accused Becky of trying to take credit for the women’s revolution. Micke said that she has 7 years of rage built up inside of her and that she is going to destroy Becky on Sunday at the Elimination Chamber. Mickie then signed the contract.

Becky said that she respected Mickie until she teamed up with Alexa Bliss. Becky also called Alexa a troll. Becky said that one Sunday she will be bringing a lifetime of fire. Alexa then poked fun at Becky’s dyed hair and that she owns the women’s division. Bliss and Becky then signed the contract.

Naomi said that Wrestlemania is in her hometown this year and that she is walking down the entrance ramp as the Smackdown Women’s Champion. Naomi signed the contract and kicked Bliss in the head. Becky then laid out Mickie. Alexa and Mickie then retreated as Naomi and Becky stood tall in the ring.

American Alpha, Breezango, Slater & Rhyno vs The Usos, The Ascension & The Vaudevillians

The match went back and forth until a commercial break. When Smackdown returned, The Usos were launched out of the ring by American Alpha. Everyone was then outside the ring besides Rhyno and The Ascension. Rhyno hit the Gore on Konnor but was no match for Viktor. Viktor pinned Rhyno for the victory after hitting a knee off the top rope.

Winners: The Usos, The Ascension & The Vaudevillians

Reaction: The Ascension and The Vaudevillians actually won a match. This may be a once in a lifetime event so cherish it.

John Cena vs Randy Orton

There were dueling “lets go Cena!” and “Cena sucks!” chants to start out the match. Cena applied a Chin Lock early but Orton battled out of it and knocked Cena to the mat with a kick to the midsection. Bray Wyatt enjoyed the match from his rocking chair outside the ring. Orton launched Cena into the steel steps and Smackdown went to a commercial break.

When Smackdown returned, Cena was going for the Five Knuckle Shuffle but Orton blocked it. Cena then went for the AA but Orton was once again ready for it and slammed Cena to the mat. Cena responded by throwing Orton out of the ring and slamming his head off the steel steps. Orton slammed John Cena into the announce table as Bray laughed and cheered him on.

Back in the ring, Orton and Cena traded punches. Cena got the upper hand and hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Cena then hit the AA but Orton kicked out at two. Cena climbed to the top turnbuckle but Orton caught him and planted him with a DDT. Orton then geared up for the RKO and he hit it but Cena kicked out at two. Bray Wyatt then began to shout at the referee from ringside. Cena went for another AA but Orton’s legs accidentally hit the referee. Orton locked in the STF and Orton tapped but the referee was down. Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton then beat the hell out of Cena in the ring. Wyatt went for the Sister Abigail and slung Cena into Orton for the RKO but Cena Clotheslined Orton. Wyatt then hit the Sister Abigail on Cena. Luke Harper then came down to the ring and had a stare down with Bray Wyatt. Bray told Harper to go backstage but Harper hit a Clothesline instead. Orton went for an RKO on Harper but Harper blocked it and Cena hit an AA on Orton. The referee rolled back into the ring and counted to three.

Winner: John Cena

Reaction: Another week, another solid episode of Smackdown. The Wyatt Family storyline remains the most interesting thing in the WWE in my opinion. It was also announced during the show that Luke Harper will be facing Randy Orton at the Elimination Chamber and I’m looking forward to that match on Sunday.

205 Live 2/7/17

Austin Aries revealed that Tony Nese was injured last night on Monday Night Raw and will not be able to compete in the Fatal 5-Way match later tonight. His replacement will be determined in a match tonight between Ariya Daivari and Mustafa Ali.

Ariya Daivari vs Mustafa Ali

Ali dropped Daivari with a kick to start off the match. The action spilled outside the ring and Daivari hit a Neckbreaker on Ali. Daivari rolled back into the ring and demanded that the referee start counting. Ali got back in the ring at the count of nine. Daivari greeted Ali with a couple of stomps and then a forearm to his back. Daivari then applied a Chin Lock in the middle of the ring.

Ali fought out of the hold but Ariya planted him with a reverse DDT. Daivari then hit a Spinebuster and climbed to the top rope and went for a Frog Splash but Ali rolled out of the way. Ali then kicked Daivari in the head and followed it up with a Neckbreaker. Daivari then smashed Ali’s head into the second turnbuckle and connected with a massive Clothesline. Ali battled back and hit a Tornado DDT. Mustafa Ali then hit the Inverted 450 Splash for the pinfall victory.

Winner & Added To The Fatal 5-Way Match: Mustafa Ali

Kendrick said that he was the gatekeeper of 205 Live and that he was here to snuff out other Superstars dreams. Kendrick said that he wanted to make Akira Tozawa his protege. Dorado started off the match in control and hit a Moonsault onto Kendrick outside the ring. Back in the ring, Kendrick connected with a kick to Dorado’s face. Dorado battled back and connected with a Backbreaker. Dorado then hit a Stunner on Kendrick for a two count. Dorado went to the top turnbuckle but Kendrick joined him. Dorado knocked Kendrick to the mat once again and went for a Shooting Star Press but Kendrick got his knees up. Kendrick applied the Captain’s Hook for the submission victory. After the match, Kendrick called out Tozawa to the ring. Tajiri’s music hit and Tajiri showed up behind Kendrick. Tajiri spit the green myst into Kendrick’s eyes as the crowd chanted “ECW!”.

Winner: Brian Kendrick

Fatal 5-Way Elimination Match To Determine #1 Contender To Cruiserweight Championship: Cedric Alexander vs TJ Perkins vs Jack Gallagher vs Noam Dar vs Mustafa Ali

Alexander Clotheslines Noam Dar out of the ring to kick off the match. Ali hit a massive Dropkick on Jack Gallagher that knocked him out of the ring. Gallagher sprinted around the ring and connected with an upper cut on Dar. Alexander and Dar traded punches in the ring. Gallagher launched Ali out of the ring onto Alexander, Dar and Perkins. Gallagher then brought his umbrella into the match and climbed to the top turnbuckle. Gallagher then opened up the umbrella and jumped onto the other Superstars in the match.

https://twitter.com/WWE205Live/status/829172551729295362

Back in the ring, Dar kicked Gallagher in the knee and Aries made fun of Gallagher for not wearing knee pads. Cedric Alexander hit a Lumbar Check on Dar and Noam was eliminated. Alexander planted Ali with a standing Spanish Fly for a two count. Alexander took out Perkins and Gallagher with a couple of kicks and the crowd got behind him. Alexander climbed to the top rope but Noam Dar showed back up and shoved him. The referees took Dar to the back as TJ Perkins hit the Detonation Kick on Alexander for the three count.

It was now down to TJ Perkins, Jack Gallagher and Mustafa Ali. Perkins was perched up on Gallagher’s shoulders and Ali connected with a Crossbody onto him. Ali hit a Neckbreaker on Gallagher and went for the Inverted 450 Splash but Gallagher rolled out of the way. Perkins then applied an Arm Bar to Ali and Mustafa tapped out.

Perkins and Gallagher were the final two Superstars remaining. The crowd started to chant “Mary Poppins!” as Gallagher and Perkins battled in the ring. Perkins targeted Gallagher’s knees with a series of kicks. Perkins applied the Knee Bar but Gallagher rolled through and reached the ropes to break the hold. The crowd started a “yes!” chant when the hold was broken. Gallagher connected with a headbutt to the chest of Perkins. TJ hit a Detonation Kick but Gallagher stayed on his feet and hit another headbutt for a two count. The crowd chanted “this is awesome!” as Perkins and Gallagher got back to their feet. Perkins went for another Detonation Kick but Gallagher blocked it and hit another headbutt. Gallagher hit a running Dropkick on Perkins in the corner for the pinfall victory. Jack Gallagher will now face Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship at WWE Fastlane. Neville came down to the entrance ramp and raised the Cruiserweight Championship.

Winner & #1 Contender For The Cruiserweight Championship: Jack Gallagher

https://twitter.com/WWE205Live/status/829175149148528640

Reaction: 205 Live was great tonight and finally the crowd responded. Jack Gallagher is very entertaining and the Fatal 5-Way match was awesome. I thought Cedric Alexander would pick up the win tonight but it appears his never-ending feud with Noam Dar will continue. Neville and Jack Gallagher is an interesting feud and I’m looking forward to see how it unfolds. I doubt that Neville will drop the Cruiserweight Championship so quickly, but the WWE Universe seems to be really behind Jack Gallagher. Well, at least in Seattle. Hopefully Gallagher will get a response from the crowd Monday night on Raw.

WWE SmackDown Results & Discussion (2/7)

1,264

The February 7th edition of SmackDown was the go-home show before Sunday’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, and it aired live on the USA Network from Keyarena in Seattle, WA.

– Daniel Bryan comes out to open the show and he cuts a promo for his home state crowd in Washington. Bryan says he’s going to be a father soon, and on that note The Miz comes out to steal the spotlight. The Miz cuts a promo on Bryan for not being able to wrestle anymore, and tells him to go be a stay-at-home dad. Baron Corbin, Dean Ambrose, and AJ Styles all interrupt, and they argue over who will leave Elimination Chamber with the WWE Championship. Daniel Bryan says he wants a preview tonight, and he sets up a Fatal Four Way may between them. “And by the way, that match starts now!”

Baron Corbin def AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, The Miz: Maryse is at ringside for this one. Ambrose gets lots of offense in on everyone in the opening moments. Ambrose knocks Styles off the top rope during a Phenomenal Forearm attempt, then Corbin pulls Ambrose out to ringside and lays him out. Back in the ring, Corbin goes to work on both The Miz and AJ. AJ and The Miz set up for a double superplex on Ambrose, then Corbin comes up behind them and powerbombs them all off the turnbuckle. The Miz hits some kicks on Corbin, but Corbin quickly comes back with the Deep Six on Miz. Styles lays out Corbin with the Pele Kick, then attempts a Styles Clash on The Miz — but The Miz gets out and knees styles in the face. Ambrose gets his second wind and lays out Ambrose and The Miz, then hits a suicide dive onto Corbin at ringside. Ambrose throws his three opponents around ringside, then slams Corbin into the ring post before throwing him back in the ring. Ambrose hits an elbow off the top on Corbin and pins, but Styles breaks it up. Styles ducks a lariat from Ambrose and springboards off the middle rope for his patented moonsault into a reverse DDT. Styles pins but Miz breaks it up. Styles drops The Miz and hits the Phenomenal Forearm on him, but Maryse pulls The Miz out to ringside after so he can’t be pinned. Styles turns around into the End Of Days from Corbin, and Corbin pins for the win.

– Tom Phillips does an interview via satellite with Nikki Bella and Natalya. Natalya ends up saying Cena is going to leave Nikki for someone better, and Nikki storms off screen.

Apollo Crews def. Dolph Ziggler: Ziggler gets lots of offense in early on and sets up for a superkick, but Crews ducks and rolls Ziggler up in a small package for the win after a very short match. Ziggler beats down Crews after the match then grabs a steel chair. Ziggler gives Crews two shots with the chair before Kalisto makes the save. Kalisto drops Ziggler with some kicks and attempts the Salida Del Sol, but Ziggler blocks it and crotches him on the top rope. Ziggler hits Kalisto with the chair while he’s on the rope, then hits Crews with the chair again before leaving.

– We see Dolph Ziggler backstage and then Daniel Bryan confronts him. Ziggler says he could beat Crews and Kalisto at the same time, so Bryan books them in a handicap match at Elimination Chamber and walks off.

– Mickie James & Alexa Bliss come out to the ring, followed by Becky Lynch & Naomi to sign the contracts for their match at Elimination Chamber. Mickie James cuts a promo on Becky and takes credit for what the Women’s Division is now. Mickie says she’s going to reinvent herself at Elimination Chamber and destroy Becky. Alexa talks some trash to Naomi, and Naomi’s had enough so she kicks Alexa in the head. Alexa and Mickie get thrown out to ringside, and Naomi hits a suicide dive on them. Naomi and Becky stand in the ring while Alexa and Mickie retreat up the ramp.

– Luke Harper is backstage in a room with a red light, and he cuts a promo on Randy Orton. He says Orton took his family from him, and he’s going to get revenge.

The Vaudevillains, The Usos, & The Ascension def. American Alpha, Breezango, and Rhyno & Heath Slater: The heels control the majority of the match until Rhyno gets the hot tag and hits a spinebuster on Konnor of the Ascension. His teammates break up the pin, and the aprons clear into the ring and everyone starts brawling. When the dust settles it’s down to American Alpha and The Vaudevillains, with American Alpha hitting a couple belly to belly overhead suplexes on them. Gable then hits a suicide dive onto the heels at ringside. Back in the ring, Rhyno gores Konnor, but then Viktor comes off the top with a knee to the face of Rhyno for the win.

John Cena def. Randy Orton: This is a non-title match, and Bray Wyatt is at ringside. It’s all Orton in the opening minutes as he beats down Cena around the ring. Cena starts getting some momentum when he dumps Orton out to ringside and slams him into the ring steps, but Orton comes back with a back suplex onto the announce table. Orton throws Cena back in the ring, where Cena starts fighting back with right hands. Cena hits a back suplex then the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Cena follows up with an Attitude Adjustment, but Orton kicks out at the two count. Cena goes up to the top rope, but as he reaches the top Orton grabs his head and DDTs him down to the mat. Orton hits an RKO but Cena kicks out at two. Cena and Orton both unsuccessfully attempt their finishers again, which leaders to the ref getting knocked out. Cena puts Orton in the STF and he taps, but the ref never sees it. Wyatt runs in and beats down Cena. Cena clotheslines Orton out of the ring, but then Wyatt drops Cena with the Sister Abigail. Wyatt is the last man in the ring, then Luke Harper runs out and confronts him. Harper hits a spinning lariat on Wyatt and he falls out of the ring. Orton sneaks back in the ring and goes for an RKO on Harper, but Harper pushes Orton away and Cena hits Orton with the Attitude Adjustment. Cena pins and gets the three count. Cena celebrates in the ring as Harper looks on from ringside.

Sami Zayn Hopes to Change Perceptions of Muslims

55

Sami Zayn was born and raised in Montreal, QC Canada, but his family comes from Syria. His real name is Rami Sebei, his family is Muslim, and he speaks Arabic fluently

Here’s a fun task:

– Using google translate have the words “Sami Zayn” translated from English to Arabic.
– Then reverse the words. Have the Arabic translation translated back to English and you get the words “El Generico”. Pretty creative.

While WWE is avoiding political talk at the moment, Sami Zayn hasn’t hesitated to comment on the US travel ban.

Sami Zayn ESPN Interview

Zayn recently spoke to ESPN about his Syrian heritage and Muslim upbringing, as well as his hopes to change perceptions of Muslims.

“It’s definitely a sensitive topic to discuss, but I have felt since I signed with the WWE I was in a unique position to reestablish how Arabs were perceived in the WWE and western media,” He told ESPN recently.

“Ever since I was a kid and growing up and watching things like the ‘Naked Gun’ movies, there was always this stereotype about how Arabs were perceived and portrayed. I’ve never watched those Arab villains in the movie and felt like that was me. They were nothing like me, and now I get to just be me — and hopefully being me strikes a chord with a lot of young Arabs and non-Arabs, honestly. We’re really not all that different.”

Zayn is a Canadian citizen, and even though he his family is from Syria, he will not be impacted by the US travel ban.

Quebec Mosque Shooting

On January 29th 2017 2 gunmen opened fire on a mosque in Quebec City. 6 people were killed while attending prayer. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are both from Quebec.

Both Owens and Zayn could be seen wearing black armbands with the Quebec fleur-de-lis, a symbol of French Canada.
