New Chinese Recruits Report To The WWE Performance Center

0

WWE announced today that 4 new Chinese talents have reported to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando – Gao Lei, Gu Guangming, Cheng Yuxiang and Wang Xiaolong. They were among the 7 Chinese recruits to sign deals last summer.

Below is WWE’s full announcement on their arrivals:

China recruits report to WWE Performance Center for training

Four new recruits arrived from China last week and reported for training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, each with the goal of establishing himself as the next WWE Superstar.

Gao Lei, Gu Guangming, Cheng Yuxiang and Wang Xiaolong were among the seven Chinese recruits signed to WWE developmental contracts following a four-day tryout WWE held in Shanghai last June. The four join Zhao Xia, Yifeng and Big Boa, who began their training at the Performance Center last month, and Tian Bing, who last summer became WWE’s first Chinese talent signed to a developmental contract. Upon their arrival, they were also met and welcomed at the Performance Center by Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events & Creative.

“When we held our first-ever tryout in China last year, we identified seven gifted athletes who had the potential to become WWE Superstars,” said Levesque. “They are finally training together at the WWE Performance Center, where they will be given the opportunity to develop their skills and serve as an inspiration to millions of WWE fans back home. These recruits are also symbolic of WWE’s commitment to finding the most talented athletes and entertainers from around the world.”

Cheng Yuxiang

A native of Heilongjiang, a province located in the northeastern part of China, Cheng Yuxiang is an expert-level fitness trainer certified by the Beijing Zhuo Zhonghua International Fitness Academy. Having fought in numerous boxing competitions throughout China, he’s aware that his opportunity with WWE will be his toughest challenge, and potentially the most rewarding.

“I am very happy to be here in Orlando,” said Yuxiang, citing in particular the “very nice” Florida air, “and to be at the Performance Center to train. I will work hard every day during training to represent the Chinese crew.”

Gao Lei

In addition to being a champion in various Beijing traditional wrestling promotions, Gao Lei was the team leader of Inner Mongolia University for The Nationalities’s wrestling team.

“I believe that I am a great wrestler,” Lei said, “but being here in WWE makes me realize that I need to work harder, to get on everyone’s level. I am going to work hard to be the best that I can.”

Gu Guangming

Since 2012, Mudanjiang native Gu Guangming has ranked among the top amateur boxers in his weight class, and went on to win the National Men’s Championship in 2014. At 6-foot-8, Guangming is the tallest of the Chinese recruits; now he’s focused on standing out even more while training in Orlando.

“I am very happy to be here at the WWE Performance Center,” he said. “I want to learn everything I can about wrestling. I am ready to learn.”

Wang Xiaolong

Of the seven recruits’ diverse backgrounds, Wang Xiaolong’s is perhaps the most eclectic; he was a sport enthusiast from a very young age, and he studied at the Shandong University of Technology, with a major in sports. Then he pursued his dream of studying music at Beijing Contemporary Music Academy and later on received professional singing and dancing training.

“I used to be a dancer and a musician,” he explained. “But now I want to be a WWE Superstar, to fight for my family.”

With the China recruits now all together and training at the WWE Performance Center, only one outstanding task remains for each of them: To develop into a WWE Superstar that not only China, but the entire world, can cheer for.

WWE RAW Results & Discussion (2/6)

1,102

The February 6th edition of WWE RAW takes place at the Moda Center in Portland, OR.

– Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon are in the ring to start off RAW. Foley introduces Samoa Joe, but he’s not happy about it. Joe comes out, and Stephanie “corrects” Foley and gives Joe and more enthusiastic introduction. They announce that they’re about to sign Joe, but Stephanie gets in Foley’s face about his attitude first. Joe grabs the mic next and cuts a promo on Foley, then says he’s putting the whole RAW roster on notice. Joe says “the destroyer has arrived” and no one can stop him. Joe signs his contract, then Roman Reigns comes out to interrupt. Reigns says if Joe doesn’t shut his mouth, he’s going to shut it for him. Foley books Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe for later tonight. Foley tells them to have a nice day, and Joe heads to the back with Stephanie.

Nia Jax def. Charlotte: Nia controls the opening minutes of the match and keeps Bayley grounded. Nia continues to overpower Bayley until Bayley comes back with some kicks and a flying knee in the corner. Bayley follows up with some elbows, but Nia blocks one then drops Bayley with a clothesline. Things go to the outside where Bayley pushes Nia into the ring post. Bayley rolls back in the ring and starts counting out Nia, but Charlotte runs in and distracts the referee. Bayley beats down Charlotte, then Nia comes in and hits a Samoan Drop on Bayley for the win.

Braun Strowman def. Four jobbers: This one is a four-on-one handicap match. Strowman drops all four jobbers with right hands early on. He continues the offense with running splashes in the corner, then one of the jobbers leaves the ring and runs to the back. Strowman hits a vertical suplex on one, then some repeated strikes to the head of another. Strowman hits a running powerslam on the other remaining jobber, then stacks them on top of each other and pins them for the win. After the match, Strowman cuts a promo on Foley for not giving him competition, and he says he’s coming to find Foley.

– We go backstage where Strowman finds Foley. Strowman demands more competition, so Foley gives him a match against Roman Reigns at Fastlane in four weeks. Strowman seems pleased with this, and walks away.

Akira Tozawa def. Drew Gulak: After some chain wrestling early on, they start trading chops to the chest then Tozawa starts working on Gulak with kicks. Tozawa hits a hurricanrana that sends Gulak to the apron, then he forearms him out to ringside. Tozawa hits a flying headbutt through the ropes to the outside, then back in the ring he hits a knee to the face for two. Tozawa hits a series of kicks then a German suplex for the win. Brian Kendrick comes out and shakes the winner’s hand.

– Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho are out to the ring next. Chris Jericho repeatedly mentions that he is the “greatest of all time,” and complains about people calling Tom Brady the greatest. Jericho adds Brady to “the list,” then teases that Jericho and Owens will have a “best friend vs. best friend” match at WrestleMania. Owens says it would be the biggest main event in WrestleMania history, but that he’s not sure he can fight his best friend. Goldberg’s music hits and the former WCW Champion makes his way to the ring. Goldberg tells them to either get out of his way and let him speak, or fight him two-on-one right now. Owens and Jericho give Goldberg the spotlight. Goldberg accepts Brock Lesnar’s challenge for WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. Owens interrupts and says Goldberg vs. Lesnar would be a perfect under-card match because Owens and Jericho will be the true main event. Goldberg gets in Owens’ face and mentions that he doesn’t have an opponent for Fastlane yet. Goldberg challenges Owens to a match at Fastlane for his Universal Title, then Jericho interrupts. Jericho says Goldberg can’t come down and make his own matches, and people who do that get put on “the list.” Goldberg takes Jericho’s list and writes his name on it himself. Jericho says he never liked Goldberg, then accepts Goldberg’s challenge on Owens’ behalf — which Owens isn’t happy about. Goldberg says Owens and his Universal Title are next. Goldberg heads to the back while Owens yells at Jericho for accepting the challenge for him.

– We go backstage where Owens cuts a promo on Jericho for getting him in a match against Goldberg. Jericho says he’s always helped Owens win before, and he will this time too, but Owens still isn’t pleased.

Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson def. Cesaro & Sheamus via DQ: Enzo and Cass are on commentary for this one. Sheamus and Cesaro team up on Anderson early on with a running Senton immediately followed by a double foot stomp. Anderson and Gallows come back and work over Cesaro until Sheamus gets the hot tag and cleans house. Sheamus hits a series of running splashes in the corner then goes for a rolling Senton, but Anderson gets out. Sheamus knocks Anderson to the apron and hits the Ten Beats Of The Bodhrán on him. Gallows and Cesaro run in and Cesaro lays him out with a series of headbutts and uppercuts. Gallows goes outside and knocks out Enzo with a boot to the face, then Big Cass drops Gallows with another kick. The referee calls for the disqualification, so there will be no title change.

The New Day def. The Shining Stars: Woods and Big E control the opening minutes of the match until The Stars get a double team move in on Woods after a blind tag. Epico continues working on Woods, and drops him with a vertical suplex. Primo gets the tag and hits a dropkick on Woods followed up by a splash off the middle rope. Primo hits a spear on Woods in the corner then attempts a superplex, but Woods knocks him down. Woods comes off the top rope with a missile dropkick on Primo. Big E and Epico get the tags and Big E hits a series of three belly to belly suplexes. Big E follows up with a running splash. Xavier hits a DDT on Primo, then tags in. Big E and Xavier hit the Midnight Hour for the win.

– Chris Jericho does an interview backstage where he says he and Kevin Owens are just having a minor disagreement. Kevin Owens interrupts and tells Jericho he’s right and that Jericho has always had his back in the past. Owens tells Jericho he has his back tonight in his U.S. Title defense against Sami Zayn, and they hug.

– We see a video package highlighting The Rock & Roll Express’ career and promoting their induction into the Hall of Fame this year.

Chris Jericho (c) def. Sami Zayn: Jericho’s U.S. Title is on the line in this one. Zayn controls the majority of the opening moments of the match, and he sets up Jericho for the Heluva Kick early on. Jericho rolls to the outside, but Zayn drops him with a suicide dive to the floor. Back in the ring, Zayn hits some chops to the chest but he misses a dropkick. Jericho follows up with a Lionsault for a two count. Jericho goes for the Codebreaker, but Zayn counters into a t-bone suplex. Jericho ducks a big boot, but Zayn gets him with a Blue Thunder bomb. Zayn goes for a tornado DDT, but Jericho throws Zayn off of him and gets him in the Walls of Jericho. Zayn reaches the ropes to break the hold, then Jericho distracts the referee while Owens superkicks Zayn from ringside. Zayn turns around into a Codebreaker from Jericho for the three count. Jericho celebrates his victory with Owens after the bell.

– Backstage, Charlotte cuts a promo on Sasha Banks and says that while Sasha is injured, she is making history.

– Austin Aries is in the ring and he introduces Neville. Aries informs Neville that there will be a five-way #1 contendership match on 205 Live tomorrow. Neville says no matter who wins, they will have to pay respect to him. Cedic Alexander, Noam Dar, Jack Gallagher, Tony Neese and TJ Perkins all interrupt. Perkins says he’ll win the Cruiserweight Title again, then he drops Tony Neese. All of the cruiserweights start brawling which leads to a series of dives out of the ring onto others on the floor.

TJ Perkins, Cedric Alexander and Jack Gallagher def. Neville, Noam Dar and Tony Neese: The previous segment leads to a six-man tag. A couple minutes into the match, Dar steals a tag from Neville, and this leads to Neville abandonning his team and heading up the ramp. TJ Perkins hits the Detonation Kick on Neese, then Alexander and Dar tag in. Alexander hits the Lumbar Check shortly after for the win.

– Backstage, Jericho tells Owens that they should host a Festival of Friendship to show everyone how great their friendship is. Jericho’s Festival of Friendship will apparently take place on RAW next week.

Samoa Joe def. Roman Reigns: Joe attacks Reigns from behind on the entrance ramp before the bell. Joe beats Reigns down at ringside and hits a Senton splash on Reigns on the floor. Reigns gets back in the ring and the referee calls for the opening bell. Reigns gets in some offense, but Joe hits the Pele Kick to regain control of things. Joe hits a series of strikes and an elbow drop for a two count. Joe hits a snap suplex, but Reigns starts fighting back with right hands. Reigns goes for a Samoan Drop but Joe elbows his way out of it. Reigns hits a series of clotheslines then a big boot. Joe comes back with an inverted atomic drop, a big boot of his own, then a running Senton splash for a two count. Joe sits Reigns down in the corner and goes for a running boot to the face, but Reigns gets up and catches Joe with a Samoan Drop for a two count. Reigns follows up with a Superman Punch, and he sets up for another, but Braun Strowman runs in. Strowman gets on the apron and Reigns punches him off. Joe sneaks up behind Reigns after the distraction from Strowman with a kick and a side suplex for the win. Strowman hits a running powerslam on Reigns after the match. Strowman takes Reigns out to ringside and hits him with the ring steps, then he hits a running powerslam through the fan barricade.

Ultimate Warrior’s Wife Signs With WWE as Brand Ambassador

14

Dana Warrior, wife of late WWE Hall of Famer Ultimate Warrior, announced on Monday that she’s signed a multi-year deal with WWE to serve as a brand ambassador.

“On January 27, 2017 a contract between WWE and myself was officially executed. I could not be more excited about becoming an official part of the WWE family… although I always felt I was one. I have an opportunity now to work at WWE as a Brand Ambassador. The relationship with WWE has built slowly and meaningfully; the way good ones do. From day one it was my mission to preserve my late husband’s legacy and ensure his Warriors around the world continued access to his brand of inspiration. I could not have anticipated all the Ultimate Warriorways WWE would partner with me and then go beyond in sewing Ultimate Warrior into their universe’s fabric. I could not have predicted how through this company I would find and develop myself, cultivate and unearth my skills.

My roots were already at WWE; they’ve given me a place to struggle through growing pains but ultimately bloom. This contract is affirmation of crossing into a new era of Warrior. The next phase honors the Warrior Women amongst us who carry the mantle too. WWE has been championing women emerging as athletes, executives, and business pioneers all along. I am honored to be amongst so many I admire and deeply respect.

Personally, this opportunity feels like the ultimate ‘Always Believe’ moment. It makes worth every sleepless night, every sacrifice, every moment of doing what scared the blonde out of my hair to do. It is proof if you work diligently you can prove yourself an asset, not a project. It is proof that hard work feels better than being handed something. For me, it is an example to my own Warrior Girls service to others is the greatest gift we give yielding ultimate reward.”

Rock ‘n’ Roll Express Announced For WWE Hall of Fame

18

WWE announced on Monday afternoon that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are joining the WWE Hall of Fame.

Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson are one of the most successful tag teams in professional wrestling history. The duo began teaming together back in 1983 and were the quintessential “teen idol” team. They had successful runs in Memphis, Mid-South wrestling, Jim Crockett, the NWA and many other territories. They had a few matches in WWE, competing against the Heavenly Bodies at Survivor Series 1993 and later during the Attitude Era as part of Jim Cornette’s NWA faction.

They still compete on the independent scene to this day and made a cameo appearance during Broken Matt Hardy’s Tag Team Apocalypto match at Total Nonstop Deletion back in December.

Along with Kurt Angle, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Friday night, March 31st in Orlando, FL.

Mick Foley Talks About Jimmy Snuka’s Influence On His Career

4

RAW General Manager Mick Foley recently appeared on Jim Ross’ Ross Report podcast and spoke at length about the passing of “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and the impact Snuka had on his career.

“I came around to what Bruce Springsteen had said, which was trust the art, not the artist. And so, by doing that, you allow yourself to watch the films of an actor who may have been abusive to children. And he was a kind and gentle man. I mean, ultimately, there is a harsher judge, I really believe, than the internet. And if Jimmy did what was alleged, you hope the kindness he showed towards people for decades and the love he had for his family outweigh that incident in the final picture.”

Foley said he likely wouldn’t be a wrestler if not for Snuka’s inspiration.

“Without Jimmy, there’s no me. There’s a me, there’s a Mick Foley, doing something somewhere, but that feeling being brought out of me, being in the Garden and feeling the emotion. And then, having this moment in time captured that I remember as clearly today as when it took place over 30 years ago. And know that I wanted to make people feel that same way, I don’t know if, as much as I loved the [professional] wrestling business or just the wrestling show, I didn’t know it was a business at the time, I don’t know if there’s anything else that would have made me feel that way.”

Tamina thanked Mick for talking about seeing Snuka leap from the top of the steel cage at Madison Square Garden during his interview as Mankind with ‘J.R.’.

“It was ’97 when [Ross] and I did that interview that changed things around for me, especially in the way Mr. McMahon saw me in the company. And that was when I got to talk publicly about that match and what it meant for me. And WWE went and found the footage of me as an 18 year old in the audience. And I believe, that was the first time I would meet Tamina shortly after that. She thanked me because they felt that it had done a lot for her dad in terms of bookings, in terms of, yeah, awareness, and getting that buzz.”

Jim Ross Comments on the Possibility of Ronda Rousey & CM Punk Working With WWE Again

10

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross recently spoke to ABC 15 Arizona and commented on whether or not CM Punk will ever wrestle again. “I would be shocked if he came back to WWE,” Ross said. “However — and he might disagree with this — I would not be shocked if he came back and did a wrestling gig. Maybe New Japan, something along those lines. There’s a lot of talk of other groups that are looking to get their toe in the water.”

He continued, “McMahon’s got the monopoly, and they do a phenomenal job. They’re the big dog in the yard, so other dogs now are barking. We’ll see how it comes about. I don’t think Punk would ever go back to WWE, but I could be wrong. They could hug and make up.”

JR also commented on the possibility of Ronda Rousey crossing over to WWE.

“I do think she has a lot more left in the tank. I think she’s very marketable,” Ross said. “I don’t think she’d ever go to WWE and be a regular (but) I could see her coming to WWE and doing a big one-off event like at a Wrestlemania or something, without question.

“Those two losses in a real sport have nothing to do with a fictional sport. (WWE chairman Vince) McMahon is the P.T. Barnum of this era. If anybody can get Ronda Rousey hot, relevant and a must-see, it’s Vince. I think she’s got a lot left in the tank, plus let’s not forget she’s buddies with The Rock, so there’s some synergy there that you would not pass up.”

Kurt Angle Talks About Who He’d Want To Wrestle In WWE, His Battle With Substance Abuse

13

Kurt Angle recently spoke with JP Zarka of ProWrestlingStories.com about his upcoming WWE Hall of Fame induction, his past substance abuse, fatherhood, who he’d want to wrestle if he ever competed for WWE again and more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

WWE Hall of Fame Induction:

“I was pretty surprised that I got the call this early. You know, at forty-eight years of age. I’m not even done with my wrestling career! I got a call from Triple H and he said how they wanted to induct me into the WWE Hall of Fame. That just puts an exclamation point to my pro wrestling career. I’ve been inducted into every hall of fame but the WWE in both amateur and pro, so this is definitely a huge honor.”

His Recovery From Substance Abuse:

“I’ve been in recovery for four years. I decided to enter rehab back in 2013 when I got my fourth DUI in five years. I got pretty reckless. It started with painkillers because I was having a lot of anxiety when I broke my neck four times in two-and-a-half years. I went to Xanax, so I was taking both of those. WWE didn’t even know I was taking it. Back in 2003, they didn’t have the drug testing they do now. They have a great drug testing policy now, but back then it wasn’t implemented yet so I was getting away with a lot of stuff.

Because of health issues and also feeling like I was a liability to Vince McMahon, I asked for a release in 2006 and Vince granted me it and I moved on with my life and they moved on with theirs. When I went to TNA, everybody drank and I never really drank alcohol. All of a sudden I was drinking alcohol and now I was mixing the three – it was a pretty deadly combination.”

Who He Wants to Wrestle if Given the Opportunity in WWE:

“I’m going to have to put AJ Styles up there, too. He is frickin’, he is the best in the business without a doubt right now. I just watched him and Dean Ambrose on Tuesday. Gosh, does that kid ever have less than a five-star match? He’s phenomenal. I completely understand why AJ is so much fun to work with – you don’t have to do anything! He does all of it for you. Any other wrestler who would tell you different is lying. AJ does all the work. That’s what’s so cool about it. You know it’s going to be a five-star match if he matches your ability. I’m talking the Ambrose’s and the Rollins’, the John Cena’s and Kurt Angle’s.

As long as you’re up there with him, you’re going to have that type of match with AJ because he is so easy to work with. I know this is going to be a little bit of a surprise but I really like Roman Reigns. I think he’s going to win the fans over eventually. It’s only a matter of time. I think he was pushed fairly quickly and the fans like to see that process. You know, the US title, the Intercontinental title, the King of the Ring and then the WWE title. He just went straight up. I think that’s the reason why a lot of fans, some fans I should say, are rejecting him.”

Dolph Ziggler Talks About His New Attitude, Connecting With The Audience

17

Here are some highlights of Dolph Ziggler’s recent interview Big Communications:

His new attitude:

“It’s already shaping up to be a big year for myself. For the longest time, I was the bad guy who you enjoyed watching one way or another, the last few years I was the good guy who you kind of enjoyed having around, so we’ll see if I’m starting to go back to my old ways. When I was first learning wrestling training and first learning to fall down, the trainer said that I was a natural jerk and was going to train me to be a bad guy. It made sense.”

The importance of connecting with fans:

“A lot of stuff that I do, and a handful of others, base it out on the crowd’s reaction and what is happening. Sometimes myself, there are times where I am being cheered when I shouldn’t be and be booed when I shouldn’t be, so I have a way or working around it. I have been wrestling since I was 5 years old. That’s been my life one way or another, being in WWE for the last 12 years. Being in WWE I have been very fortunate to work on a lot of charitable work for Make A Wish, Tribute to the Troops.”

Hideo Itami Cleared to Return

14

Hideo Itami is finally medically cleared to compete will be returning to NXT in the very near future. Itami’s NXT run has been plagued with injuries and he’s been out since October, when he went down with an injury that prevented him from teaming with Kota Ibushi in the Dusty Rhodes Memorial tag team tournament.

Hideo Itami Injury Woes

The 35-year old Itami debuted in NXT after having had a very successful run in Pro Wrestling NOAH. Then known as Kenta Kobayashi, Itami spent the better part of 14 years with the organization. Throughout this period, Itami would also make sporadic appearances with ROH, but his main focus was in Japan.

He won the company’s heavyweight championship in 2013, and then held it for almost a year. Itami would eventually drop the belt in January of 2014. He began training in WWE developmental around that time. He would wrestle his final match for NOAH that May.

Since landing in NXT however, Itami has suffered two injuries that have kept him on the sidelines for extended periods of time.

His suffered an injured shoulder in May of 2015 that required surgery. The injury was only supposed to keep him out 6 months, but due to complications from the surgery he ended up being inactive for over a year. He returned in June of 2016, but would be injured again in October. Now, according to Meltzer, he is cleared to compete again and could make his return any day.

Wrestling Personalities React to Super Bowl on Twitter

23

Stephanie McMahon and Triple H’s favourite football team completed the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history last night. They did it against Goldberg’s former team the Atlanta Falcons. So you had the WWE team going up against the team from WCW’s hometown.

Wrestlers Tweeting on the Super Bowl:

Sasha Banks who is from Boston:

Xavier Woods, who is from Atlanta, enjoyed the first half but not the second half or overtime:

he re-tweeted this gem at halftime:

after the second half he was not in as great a mood:

Woods’ New Day teammate is from Boston however (not Jamaica)

Big E was less interested in the Super Bowl:

Boston native John Cena had this to say:

Carmella was apparently a Patriots cheerleader at one point:

Vince McMahon had nothing to say on the Super Bowl, perhaps not wanting to watch the sport after the recent XFL documentary aired on ESPN.
Triple H, a noted Pats fan, was also quiet on Twitter oddly enough.
