Press Release For John Cena Hosting American Grit On FOX

1

Here is the official announcement from FOX on American Grit starring John Cena:

“AMERICAN GRIT,” NEW MILITARY-INSPIRED COMPETITION SERIES STARRING WWE(R) SUPERSTAR JOHN CENA(R), TO AIR IN 2016 ON FOX

Military Heroes Rorke Denver, Noah Galloway, Tawanda “Tee” Hanible and Nick “The Reaper” Irving Serve as Contestant Mentors – $1 Million Prize Money at Stake

FOX has ordered AMERICAN GRIT, a new, 10-episode competition series starring WWE Superstar John Cena. Sixteen of the country’s toughest men and women will be split into four teams as they work together to face a variety of military-grade and survival-themed challenges. Cena and an elite group of mentors from the nation’s most exclusive military units will push these civilians beyond their limits. The mentors, known as “The Cadre,” include Rorke Denver, Noah Galloway, Tawanda “Tee” Hanible and Nick “The Reaper” Irving. These real-life heroes, who represent diverse backgrounds and top branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, will impart their first-hand knowledge and experience to help the competitors work together as teams to surmount near-impossible mental and physical challenges. AMERICAN GRIT embodies the military ethos “no man left behind,” because only the first team to complete the challenges together is safe from elimination. Each episode will culminate in “The Circus,” a punishing, endurance-based obstacle course designed to break the weakest competitors. With up to a million dollars of prize money at stake, this is the ultimate test of strength, grit, the human spirit and, most importantly, teamwork. The series is produced by Leftfield Pictures.

“The U.S Military is the epitome of resolve and dedication, which is why I am so excited to be a part of AMERICAN GRIT,” said Cena. “This show will not only be a challenging and fierce competition, but it will give viewers a glimpse into the perseverance and training of the men and women of the Armed Forces.”

“AMERICAN GRIT is a bold, aspirational competition series that aligns with the spirit of the FOX unscripted brand,” said David Madden, President, Entertainment, FOX Broadcasting Company. “The team at Leftfield and the incredible John Cena have created a series built on the pillars of determination, dedication and strength that we know will resonate with our audience. John is not only a phenomenal athlete but a motivational force, who inspires fans around the world, and we are thrilled he is leading the charge.”

“We are excited to be working with FOX and John Cena on a show that highlights the American spirit of competition, which is epitomized by Cena,” said executive producer and CEO, Leftfield Entertainment, Brent Montgomery. “With John as their inspiration, our contestants will show viewers what happens when you swing for the fences with focus, commitment and teamwork.”

· Noah Galloway – A Purple Heart recipient, Noah Galloway served in the 1st Battalion of the 502nd Infantry with the Army’s 101st Airborne Division. Having lost his left arm and leg during deployment, Galloway had to learn to overcome his disability and, in turn, has dedicated his life to empowering fellow veterans through fitness and motivational speaking. He started the No Excuses Charitable Fund, and works closely with Operation Enduring Warrior and Homes for Our Troops. He placed third on “Dancing with the Stars” on Season 20.

· Tawanda “Tee” Hanible – A Gunnery Sergeant with the U.S. Marines, Hanible recently retired from 19 years in the Marine Corps. She deployed to Iraq for the initial invasion in 2003, and was the only female to go out with her unit. · Nick “The Reaper” Irving – The first African-American sniper in the U.S. Army’s 3rd Ranger Battalion to deploy in the Global War On Terrorism, Nick Irving earned his nickname, “The Reaper,” from his fellow soldiers for his sharp shooting. Irving is the deadliest sniper in the Army’s 3rd Ranger Battalion, with 33 confirmed enemy kills in less than four months. He wrote the New York Times Best Seller “The Reaper,” chronicling his experiences. He owns and operates a training facility company, HardShoot.

Jonathan Coachman Confirms ESPN Will Cover Real WWE News, Defends WWE From Trolls

15

https://youtu.be/is67iG3tt1c

The editor of Fighting Spirit Magazine out of the U.K. recently contacted former WWE announcer turned ESPN analyst Jonathan Coachman if ESPN would only be covering WWE storylines. Coachman replied with the following tweet:

Coachman confirmed what we have been reporting for a while now, which is that fans can expect to see a lot more from WWE’s new business relationship with ESPN, including the fact that the sports cable channel will soon be an outlet that WWE uses to break stories, similar to how they have used TMZ in the past.

In addition to confirming the reports regarding ESPN covering WWE in a real way, the former WWE announcer still had some WWE pride left in him, as he also came to the defense of WWE by responding to a fan who wrote the following to him, “[WWE is] not even a sport. Just entertainment, and not very good at that.”

Coachman replied with the following:

Batista Says He Can Finally Make A Living As An Actor, Tells Stories From Set Of “007: Spectre”

11

Batista recently spoke with News.com.au to promote the new James Bond “007: Spectre” film in which he plays the role of “Mr. Hinx.” Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On Daniel Craig being intimidating when preparing for a fight scene:

“After years of professional wrestling, I don’t need a whole lot of preparation to go from nice guy to kick-arse guy. But Daniel does this thing when he gets ready to do a fight scene. He starts amping himself up. He starts going; ‘argh, argh, argh’. It sounds a little weird saying this, and it probably sounds a little weird hearing it, but it’s a bit intimidating.”

On being able to make a living as an actor:

“This past year was probably the first year I have actually been able to make a living as an actor. So it’s still very surreal to me. It’s a dream come true. I know that sounds like a cliché but it really is.”

On not having an ego about letting someone else do the stunts for him in a film if he feels he’s not qualified:

“It’s weird because a lot of actors now are insisting on doing their own stunts. I am the complete opposite. If I don’t think I am qualified for a stunt, I will be the first guy to say it. And I am lucky enough to have a really great stunt man for this film. He was my stunt man on Guardians, too. I want them to use him as much as possible, because he makes me look good.”

Rumor Killer On Whose Idea It Was To Mention Reid During Charlotte-Paige Contract Signing

31

Despite rumors to the contrary, it was not Charlotte who came up with the idea to mention her deceased brother Reid during her Survivor Series contract signing segment with Paige on RAW this past Monday night.

While it was WWE who pitched the idea to reference Reid during the segment to Charlotte, Uproxx.com reports that it was actually Charlotte’s idea, which is not the case. According to their report, Charlotte pitched the idea as a way to deal with a personal tragedy in her life by turning it into a part of a fictional storyline.

Ric Flair’s WOOOOO! Nation podcast host Conrad Thompson noted that Charlotte absolutely did not pitch the idea herself. Flair himself even pointed out how his daughter is still very new to the company and she’s not in a position to turn anything down. He also made it clear without saying that he wasn’t happy about the Reid mentions during the segment.

WWE Tells Talent Negotiating With Them To Keep Quiet, Randy Orton Injury Note

11

– As noted recently, independent wrestling star Drew Gulak, when asked in a recent interview if he was headed to WWE, replied, “I am not allowed to speak on that issue. If I was allowed to, it would be in great detail. But I can’t really elaborate on my business with WWE, or if there has been any business with WWE.”

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE wants everyone who is talking with them about coming in to keep quiet, as they want to be the ones to announce new talent signings first.

– As reported this past weekend, Randy Orton married his girlfriend Kimberly Marie Kessler in a ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 14th. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that those close to the situation claim Orton’s shoulder injury is “really serious.”

Update On Lana’s Backstage Heat

31

The heated Twitter exchange between Paige and Lana has been a point of discussion within WWE this week. Lana accused Paige of bullying her while the two were in NXT together, while Paige denied the claim and said Lana is just hungry for fame. Summer Rae and former NXT creative assistant Rob Naylor both came to Paige’s defense.

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE officials aren’t happy with Lana, and she apparently has even more backstage heat due to the Twitter war with Paige. WWE has reportedly been upset with Lana ever since she went public with her engagement to Rusev, as they felt it ruined their television storyline with Rusev and Summer Rae. After Lana posted about her engagement to Rusev, the WWE.com team was instructed to turn the real-life situation into an angle, feeling that was the way to go about covering things up and convincing fans that it was just part of a storyline.

Prior these incidents, Lana was one of Vince McMahon’s favorite young talents. Whether or not that is still the case after all of the drama remains to be seen.

WWE Looking To Sign Several Top ROH & Lucha Underground Stars To NXT Roster

21

WWE has been more aggressive as of late when it comes to contacting contracted stars in both Ring Of Honor and Lucha Underground about coming into the company through NXT.

All the top names you’d expect that WWE might be interested in are being contacted, without the previously held “looks” and “size” limitations that the promotion has been known to be biased about in the past because the plan is to load up on the NXT roster.

WWE wants to add a lot of top workers to the NXT roster in 2016 for more extensive touring with what would basically be a WWE branded and WWE-level production type of show, but with ROH level main event matches.

A key, as was explained to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, is that Vince McMahon didn’t want ROH or TNA talents on the main WWE roster if they had been exposed on national cable television already, and if they had been merchandised.

The issue with ROH talent, which is said to be changing, was the fact that the promotion blindsided WWE when they got on Destination America. This is reportedly not an issue when it comes to those same talents working in NXT, where there is more of an emphasis on it being a work-rate promotion.

Latest On The Possibility Of The Rock Appearing At WrestleMania 32

21

Regarding The Rock and next year’s WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view, according to those close to him it’s doubtful right now that he will work the show.

There are many factors involved, some of which we reported last week such as movie studios being concerned about being able to get insurance for him if he were to get back in the ring due to the high risk of injury.

As things stand right now, The Rock is not only unlikely to work a match on the show as was originally rumored after his appearance with Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 31 earlier this year, but it’s considered doubtful that he will even be able to make an appearance at the show due to his movie schedule.

The latest word going around is that it would be difficult for The Rock to even appear at the show, although it was made clear that things could always change between now and the time WrestleMania 32 rolls around.

Rumor On Billy Gunn’s WWE Future, Stephanie & Linda McMahon In Miami, RVD

18

– There is said to be a feeling among many in WWE that Billy Gunn will eventually be brought back to the company after he deals with being “punished” for about 9-12 months. As noted, Gunn was fired from his job as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs for a power-lifting competition he took part in back in July.

Lance Archer On His TNA & WWE Runs, His FCW Peers Being Top Guys Now & More

12

https://youtu.be/UrtMPFmF4nk

Lance Archer recently appeared as a guest on The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast to talk his run in WWE, his peers from his days in FCW being on top now and more. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On being a part of TNA for some of the early milestones the company experienced:

“It’s one of those situations where I was a part of a company that was growing and I was getting to be a part of all the firsts really for the company and the company was very young when I joined in 2004. They were still only doing weekly pay per views out of Nashville at the old “Asylum” but I was there for when we first got “The Impact Zone” and I was on the very first Impact that was on the Fox Sports Network. I was there when we were in between Fox and Spike TV and for our first three hour monthly pay per view. I was there for the first Lockdown, the first Bound For Glory I was a part of all these firsts which was a lot of fun because it was a company that was growing and there were good times and bad times but the company was looking for young talent and the “Hoytamania” days were really fun and I hoped that would have gone further but it did not. For me it was a great learning experience getting to work with some of the best in the business.”

Ont the mania behind of Hoytamania:

“It was awesome and it was a lot of fun for me. Just the simple fact that when I came out there the reception was amazing. According to some people I was taking people out to eat and that’s why I had these fans and listen, I worked for TNA and they were a young company they are not paying me well enough to take 40 or 50 people out to eat. I wasn’t making t-shirts. There were a group of people that made their own t-shirts. The internet wasn’t as well received of me as the “Impact Zone” itself was but at the same time as somebody who was an UN-named talent that had only been working for TNA and to see the fans reception that was going on there was beyond amazing. I always wished that it would have gone further but unfortunately it did not and that seemed to be a lot of my TNA career. A lot of good starts with a lot of good things that just unfortunately in my opinion weren’t given the full opportunity that they should have had.”

On his overall feelings of joining WWE and how “Vance Archer” became his name:

“Nothing but excited. Especially at that time and even now today it is the biggest company in the world and anybody that is in this wrestling business wants to be a top success in the biggest company in this world and that is what WWE is. Now there are a lot of “new” avenues that are amazing like New Japan, Ring of Honor, TNA is still there and I hope people give it a bit more of a chance and it could still be something special in the business. To be a part of WWE was a dream come true. For me, it was very exciting. The whole Vance Archer thing kind came around because they want to own the rights to that name and Vance is a play on my own name and Archer was my Dad’s name and that’s how I got the “Archer” thing even though the internet tried to explain that I was going to be doing a Robin Hood gimmick which I thought was extremely comical. It was a new challenge and a new opportunity.”

On the developmental class that was in FCW now being on top of the company:

“Fun fact. I was Seth Rollins’s first WWE match in any capacity. So I guess it’s ok now that he’s heavyweight champion. Bray (Wyatt), talk about an amazing kid. I watched him and he was doing the different names and carried his father’s name. I watched him when they put him on the NXT product with the next name and he always did amazing things. He always worked extremely hard and always busted his butt. Both him and his brother Bo cut some amazing promos down there in FCW. We had our weekly promo day and everybody got up there and cut promos and everybody is trying to come up and say something intriguing and after an hour and a half or two hours people just didn’t care anymore and those two kids whether they were working on a promo together or doing it individually when they came up for a promo everyone in class stopped what they were doing because they just wanted to hear what they were going to say. To see the success he is having now, I am very proud of him. I was there when Sheamus just started to get out there and was just doing live events. You can name nearly everybody on the roster. I worked with Reigns when he was just starting out and just started hitting the ring and to see those guys progression and to know them and all of those guys were cool and I didn’t have a problem with anybody so I am proud of them and because of the good people they were when I knew them.”

On signing with New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2011 and getting the opportunity to reinvent himself:

“Getting to work with New Japan I didn’t know the scale of what it was or what it could become. I worked in Japan back in 2007,08,09. I worked a tour with All Japan before I signed with WWE. It was good and it was big but it wasn’t anywhere what New Japan is and is becoming. When I first got set to come back to Japan I was going to go back to All Japan but there was a discrepancy on what they were going to pay and what they wanted to pay so that all fell through and I got in contact with New Japan and some people from the WWE office helped get me in contact with some people in putting a good word in for me and helping me. For me it was kind of surreal because I didn’t know what to expect. I was excited and ready to go and bust my butt and try to recreate myself. They wanted a Stan Hansen-esque type character and wanted me to wear a cowboy hat. But I am not a cowboy, never have been and growing up my whole life in Texas I thought I could maybe be the cowboy I wanted to be, like a rock star cowboy.”

ROH COO Jeff Koff Talks New TV Deal, Says Anyone Can Access ROH TV For Free

2

Ring Of Honor COO Jeff Koff recently appeared as a guest on Busted Open Radio to discuss ROH’s new national cable television deal with Comet. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On ROH TV moving to Comet:

“Comet was launched on October 31st so we’re on – what? – November 16th? So this is a 17-day-old, basically, network….One of the things that I’m most proud of, and it’s by being part of Sinclair, is that unlike any other promotion, and I don’t have to name them, we will always be available to the consumer for free because our platforms are over-the-air free, the Sinclair platforms. On October 31st when we, and I say we, launch Comet, we did this in conjunction with a partnership with MGM and MGM has a tremendous, tremendous library of science-fiction programming and movies. We thought that Ring of Honor would be the perfect companion for some of that programming which is why we made the move to Comet….Comet is one of our owned platforms, like I said, in partnership with MGM so we saw it as a natural place to go for our Ring of Honor weekly television show.”

On the availability of Comet:

“Actually, Comet reaches more homes than Destination America in its initial launch footprint. We’re in New York, Chicago, LA, those markets, automatically. We’re getting those markets – Philadelphia, Seattle, Denver. We’re getting those markets so you’re really not losing Ring of Honor in those markets. You’re just going to have to locate them at a different place, which is not uncommon. It’s not uncommon in our industry. Those markets are available and, by the way, not allowed to talk about the group, but after January 1st, there’s going to be a huge group, a broadcasting group, that’s also going to join the Comet network. We’re really excited about that….We’ve really done a good job in ‘expanding our brand’, as we say, but the fan can watch the weekly television on our website for no charge as well. There’s not a person in the world, really, if you want to know the truth, that can’t access Ring of Honor weekly programming at no charge.”

Trish Stratus: It’s Time For Divas To Headline A WWE Pay-Per-View

32

In a blog post on her official website, Trish Stratus gave her thoughts on Paige and Charlotte getting the main event spot on Monday’s RAW.

“I’m just enjoying the fact that we are having conversations about women who are killing it in male dominated sports,” Stratus wrote. “And, to see it cross over to the squared circle like it did last night was incredibly smart timing on WWE’s part. A big congrats to Paige and Charlotte for earning their spot in the main event. A well-deserved accomplishment that they both proved to be ready for.”

The WWE Hall of Famer went on to say the Divas and the fans are both ready for WWE’s top female talent to headline a PPV.

“Next, it’s time for us to see ladies on the current roster get a main event spot on a PPV card – it’s clear they’re ready, and so are we. Besides, putting their top athletes into the main event spot is what WWE does, gender shouldn’t be a factor.

Here’s to more kick assery in and out of the ring, and to more ladies fighting to show we deserve the same respect, recognition and opportunities as our male counterparts in the same industry. Lord knows we fight/work just as hard for it!”

Trish was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013 at the age of 38, making her the youngest inductee ever.

Steve Austin Explains Why Roman Reigns Should Turn Heel

38

During the latest edition of his “Steve Austin Show – Unleashed!” podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin explained why WWE should turn Roman Reigns heel.

According to “The Rattlesnake,” Reigns has the size and the look to be a top guy in WWE, but should have a run as a heel before trying to take the top babyface spot in the company.

“I think Roman needs to be a heel. Go through that journey and then evolve into a babyface. To me, it’s almost going to mirror what the Rock did. [WWE] brought him in as a white meat baby. People hated him and they wanted to hate him. And then, all of a sudden, the Rock started taking over the Nation of Domination. He was the alpha male in that group. All of a sudden, the promo skills come alive. The character comes alive. The personality comes alive and he turned into the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. Now, I don’t expect Roman Reigns to do that. I expect Roman Reigns to be Roman Reigns, but that’s the road that the Rock went down. I just think, organically, that’s the way it’s going to play out for Roman Reigns. Now, you can try to put him in that babyface spot, that number one spot, right now to see what happens and I’ll be very, very interested to see, if indeed, that’s what they do because I’m just waiting on the edge of my seat to see what happens.”

Austin also spoke about Cesaro’s progress as a performer, explaining that he thinks he will eventually put all of the pieces together and get over with the fans, but noting that WWE isn’t doing him any favors.

“I think the guy is just so damn good in the ring. I see eventually he will put all the pieces together, but [WWE is] not helping him any. He [has] got to put the pieces together to go up on top of the card. Cesaro, you have hopes for because he can do so much [and] he looks so good. He only speaks 17 languages! He can go all over the world and promote for [WWE], so there [has] got to be a way to get this guy figured in a little more and get his ass over.”

Ric Flair Not Happy About Reid Being Mentioned On RAW, Says He Was Blindsided By It

61

On the latest episode of his “WOOOOO! Nation” podcast, Ric Flair addressed the controversial angle at the conclusion of Monday’s RAW, with Paige telling Charlotte that her brother Reid didn’t have enough “fight in him” prior to his overdose death in 2013. Flair did not know anything about the angle in advance and says he cried when he heard about it.

“Here’s the problem. Obviously I have an opinion, but I’m afraid to voice it because I don’t want anything to affect Ashley’s career. I would just say that I know that Hunter and Stephanie and Michael Hayes have her back. I think…if anything I don’t think that she feels she’s comfortable enough to say ‘no’ to anything yet. She’s only been up there three months. It’s a pressure cooker and a tough spot to be in. Even though she’s the champion doesn’t mean that she goes ‘hey, this is what I wanna do or what I’m not gonna do.’”

“If you’re asked to do something, that’s pretty much the way things operate up there.” He added, “Everybody walks on pins and needles and just because you’re the champion doesn’t mean you have the right to say no and if somebody writes it down…one person approves everything. So I really don’t have an opinion.”

“I was very sensitive to it obviously because it’s a very sensitive issue and it’s very new. I know her mom is on fire. I’m not going out on a limb to say what I think.”

Flair said he thought the segment was intense and Charlotte cut a great promo, but he doesn’t think WWE fans would like Reid being referenced the way he was.

“It’s still new…it’s not even three years old. It’s something we deal with in the family on a daily basis.”

“I never heard a word about it. I started crying when I was watching it. Nobody called me and no one’s called me today. That would indicate that they just assume that it’s good. I don’t have an answer for that.”

Flair said he wouldn’t have felt any differently if WWE would have given him a heads up in advance. They tell you what to say and for the most part, you’ve gotta keep the show rolling. He noted that WWE writers have scripted things for him before that he disagreed with, but nothing like what happened on RAW.

Flair said that he knows that Charlotte is a team player and will do whatever is asked of her.
