Update On TNA & ROH’s Futures On Destination America

11

As we get closer to the end of 2015, the futures of TNA and Ring of Honor on Destination America are becoming more clear. Unfortunately, there are no pleasant surprises here and it’s mostly confirmations of bad news we’ve all seen coming.

According to PWInsider, Ring of Honor is definitely finishing up with Destination America over the next few weeks and their ‘trial period’ deal will not be renewed. There had been some viewership benchmarks set that ROH needed to hit in order to get renewed, which were not met. The buzz in ROH is that they have a new TV outlet lined up, but that’s not confirmed. ROH management has indicated that some announcements are coming soon.

No shocker here, but TNA will also be finishing up with Destination America as well. There is concern in TNA regarding the ROH situation and the fact that ROH might have TV lined up already.

Then there’s Jeff Jarrett waiting in the wings with 16 episodes of Global Force Wrestling TV being shopped around to cable networks.

Kevin Owens On Wanting To Wrestle The Undertaker, Being I-C Champion & More

18

Kevin Owens recently appeared as a guest on the “Like Father, Like Son” podcast and spoke about wanting to wrestle The Undertaker, being the WWE Intercontinental Champion and more. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On wanting to wrestle The Undertaker:

“I’d love to get in the ring with the Undertaker one day… I feel like that’s a long shot, I guess, because he wrestles on a limited basis and when he does, it’s always a huge deal. But hopefully I can position myself in the next year or so to be seen as a viable opponent for the Undertaker, because it would be a thrill to be in the ring with him at WrestleMania or anywhere. It can be on a Raw or a live event, I don’t really care. I’d just love to be in the ring with him. I feel like that would be an experience I’d never forget.”

On the WWE Intercontinental Championship:

“When I was a kid, that was the title that I wanted to win, because Shawn Michaels and Owen Hart, and Bret (Hart) and Razor (Ramon), all those guys won that title and some of them eventually made it and won the WWE title. But the Intercontinental title, there’s just something special about that title. The cool part about the title I’m holding now is it’s the same design as the title I grew up watching. When I was a kid and I had all the foam replica belts, this was always the one I’d win first when I’d beat my pillow, so it’s pretty cool to have the real thing.”

Update On When Nikki Bella Will Return To The Ring, ESPN At WrestleMania?, Network Update

5

During a pre-recorded interview with the Gorilla Position podcast that was released on Wednesday, Paige was asked about Nikki Bella’s injury status and said she would probably be out of action for six more weeks depending on how she recovers. The interview was taped just before WWE kicked off its tour of Europe on Nov. 4, so Nikki could return sometime in December.

Nikki last appeared inside a WWE ring on the Oct. 26 Raw from her hometown of San Diego, California. On Nov. 3, she posted a photo on Instagram of herself rehabilitating her injured neck with a collar. She then said she was having the bulging discs in her neck fixed. It was also reported by F4WOnline.com that ‘the official WWE word’ on her injury status is that she’s resting a sore back.

– ESPN anchor and former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman says they will likely bring SportsCenter to WrestleMania 32 in April in Texas.

– Three episodes of SmackDown featuring The Undertaker have been added to the WWE Network vault; November 23, 2007, November 21, 2008 and September 18, 2009.

Hulk Hogan On His ‘Huge Mistake’ & Vince McMahon, Ex-WWE Star Gets Married, Reigns

5

– Hulk Hogan said he’s “not done yet” at his Evening with Hulk Hogan event in Sheffield, England on Saturday night.

“You guys are loyal. You known I’ve made a huge mistake or said something really dumb. That’s because I was mad or at a low point in my life, but that’s not who I am,” Hogan told a reported crowd of 1,000 about being blacklisted from WWE over the summer, which coincided with media scrutiny of scandalous remarks he made in 2007. “I’m not done yet. I need to learn another lesson. All this stuff happens to make me a better person. That’s how I look at it.”

Hogan also said he still admires WWE chief Vince McMahon.

“There are two Vince McMahons. On a personal level I love him to death, as a business man I respect him. He’s a good guy. He really is,” said Hogan.

– Randy Orton isn’t the only wrestler to get married in Las Vegas, Nevada last week. Nick Dinsmore, who was known as Eugene in WWE, married his longtime girlfriend on Wednesday.

– A new Roman Reigns Authentic T-Shirt has been released on WWE Shop.

Jim Ross Pitches An Interesting WrestleMania 32 Main Event

16

Jim Ross pitched an interesting idea for the WrestleMania 32 main event on the latest episode of his Ross Report podcast. With Seth Rollins, Randy Orton and The Rock all out of the picture for WWE’s biggest show of the year, WWE has their work cut out for them if they want to fill up AT&T Stadium. JR would like to see a “red hot” Batista return as a cocky Hollywood heel and square off against Brock Lesnar.

“Hey, I got an idea for you…what about Bautista, the heel, coming back and taking on Brock Lesnar, the babyface, at WrestleMania in April in Dallas?”

He added, “I could live with that main event… red hot Batista coming back and urinating all over the fans and being a big star and being very arrogant and full of himself and being a bad ass, believing his clippings and he wants to take on the biggest dog in the yard. I don’t dislike that match.”

Update On Billy Gunn’s Failed Drug Test And WWE Release

4

As noted, Billy Gunn was fired from his job as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center over the weekend after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs at a power-lifting competition back in July. WWE was unaware of Gunn’s suspension or the fact that he was active in power-lifting competitions.

Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that it’s believed WWE only tests contracted talent, not the WWE coaches or staff at the WWE Performance Center. This is likely why there was never a negative WWE Wellness test for Gunn.

WWE officials were forced to release Gunn when they became aware of the situation, as they felt they couldn’t have one of their trainers testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs without it making their entire developmental program look bad.

No official decision has been made regarding Gunn’s replacement, however WWE is reportedly considering two people for the job.

Diana Hart Talks WWE Misusing Harry Smith, Natalya’s Hard Work & More

10

Diana Hart, sister of WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart and widow of the late “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith, recently spoke to Sky Sports to promote her new book, Cauliflower Heart: A Romantic Wrestler.

On Natalya’s hard work:

“She sure has. She learnt a lot growing up with Harry and Tyson Kidd, who she is now married to, while she has always had heart and drive, something that convinced Tokyo Joe, someone who exclusively trained men, to train her over in Japan. Natalya can wrestle, grapple, be a showman and talk on the microphone, while she is also smart, sensitive, clean living and a great ambassador. I think so much of her and admire her so much.”

On Davey Boy Jr./Harry Smith’s WWE run:

“I don’t know if WWE really knew what they were doing with him. One day he was in a black vest and a cowboy hat and the next day they wanted him to be doing a running powerslam like his dad. Then they would say: ‘We want you to be your own character and wear pink and black’. I never saw someone go through so many character changes, it was like he was in commercials, not wrestling. There was nothing for him to really sink his teeth into and I was frustrated. I think they tried to make a silk purse into a sow’s ear.”

On differences she has seen in pro wrestling:

“I don’t see a lot of performers winging it or improvising. Years ago, people were interviewed moments after a match and had to come up with something while they were still sweating and the adrenaline was flowing; it felt so organic and spontaneous. I’m not saying there aren’t elements of that anymore but there are lots of second chances now with interviews backstage. In ring, meanwhile, some of the manoeuvres I see are unbelievable and so athletic, but I get the feeling fans are waiting for a crazy move rather than watching to see a natural narrative play out.”

The Pope On Dusty Rhodes Helping Him, His Early Days In OVW & More

2

https://youtu.be/U7RHHt6RIf4

TNA color-commentator “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero (Elijah Burke) recently spoke to The Richest podcast about his early career as a boxer and his early days in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On transitioning from being a boxer to a pro wrestler:

“The transition from an amateur boxing background to wrestling was not that difficult, as far as showmanship and the entertainment aspect of it. It wasn’t hard at all because that my main reasoning for boxing was just to entertain. Of course, I trained and did as much as I could to be a good boxer so I could hold my own in the ring. I was more of a tough guy, more of a brawler, a slugger. I grew up fighting, so the boxing part wasn’t hard but my main concern was the fulfillment of that burning desire in me to entertain the masses. However, the only part that was indeed a challenge was restricting myself from throwing actual punches. When I would throw my punches or what not, I would have a hard time pulling it back a bit. So that was the main thing that I actually had to work on, which I did countless times by punching a dummy. I actually learned to throw my first actual wrestling punch from Jim Cornette. One of the ways that I learned to throw fake punches in the wrestling ring, without having legit force that would injure my opponent in the ring, was I would use a light bulb that would hang in the distance and I would do my best to hit that light bulb without damaging it, breaking it or moving it. So if I could throw a good enough punch to a light bulb without causing it to shatter, I think that’s pretty good. I think that as time went on, I felt more comfortable with it and I was able to incorporate my actual boxing strikes in the ring and be safe with it.”

On training and developing in OVW and Dusty Rhodes helping him early in his career:

“Jim Cornette and Danny Davis. Danny Davis is the grandfather, the wizard, of OVW. Those two were very instrumental in helping me develop my character. Jim Cornette said just be you, just do what you do, the people love you. That was basically what it was. On the microphone? On the mic? The gift to gab if you will, that came along with the whole package with Elijah. That’s something that I’ve always done. That’s something that I hadn’t needed to really develop. If there is someone that I would attribute my ability to gab to, I would say my Pastor, Willie May Goodness, from down home southern Jacksonville, Florida. Where I grew up, in church, is where all that came from, The gift of gab and being able to talk on the mic and be comfortable with it.

“If there was anyone that showed me how to convey emotion and allow it to manifest into something more for the viewing audience, then of course that goes to ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes, who I had the privilege and the honor to work with. He was my childhood idol during my time in OVW, prior to my time in ECW. Definitely, it was Dusty who was supportive. Dusty saw me and I went and introduced myself and he stopped me. He said, ‘I already know about you, daddy. You and I we going to have some fun’. I would do my promos and it would be awesome. They would have scripts but he believed in me so much that he would take the script or anything they wanted me to say and he would turn it down. He would say, ‘just do what you going to do, daddy. You let me deal with Stephanie and Vince. You just say what you’re going to say’. That was just so awesome because he believed in me so much. He knew that I could take what they wanted me to do and put it in my own words and hit a home run with it. That’s what we would do all the time.”

Buff Bagwell On Nearly Becoming Paralyzed In WCW, His Battle With Drug Addiction & More

5

Former WCW star Buff Bagwell recently appeared as a guest on the “Steve Austin Show – Unleashed!” podcast and spoke about nearly getting paralyzed after taking a bad diving bulldog from Rick Steiner during an episode of WCW Thunder in 1998, his battle with drug addiction and the DUI that Lex Luger got that left him wheelchair-bound. Below are some of the highlights of the interview.

On thinking he was paralyzed during 1998 WCW Thunder match against Rick Steiner:

“At this point, I am 100% convinced, and that is a big, big statement, I’m convinced I’m paralyzed. I swear to God, my mind went, ‘you know what, you can do what Christopher Reeve is doing. You can go to schools.’ I really turned a negative situation into a positive situation in a matter of seconds.”

“We got [to the hospital] and they wheeled me out and I was all drooped over the wheelchair and as soon as I got into the waiting room, I popped up with a double bicep [pose]! And they were like, ‘oh my God! What happened? Why are you okay?’ and at that stage, they realized I had a bruised spinal cord.”

On his battle with drug addiction:

“I have severe sleep apnea. I did not know I had severe sleep apnea back in the day, so I would wake up and I felt horrible! So I would sedate to go to the gym. I would sedate to go to bed. I would sedate to get to the ring. I would sedate because I didn’t feel good. The word ‘sleep apnea,’ nobody knew what it was back then. It wasn’t a word yet, so once I got diagnosed with sleep apnea, then I was able to clean this stuff up. But back before I was able to clean it up, it created, long story short, sleep apnea created an unbelievable drug addict.”

On trying to stop Lex Luger from driving the night he got a DUI that left him wheelchair-bound:

“I really tried to help [Luger]. I said, ‘don’t leave. Please stay here.’ I said, ‘Judy will get us something to eat. Don’t worry about that.’ I said, ‘don’t do it’ and he just refused. And when he got in the car, and he smelled those hash browns, he took a couple bites of hash browns and there it was, nodded out and [went] out.”

“[I] just talked to him. [I] just invited him to the [The Good, The Bad & The Buff: The Marc Bagwell Journey] documentary coming up and really, just God bless him. He’s in a wheelchair. I mean, he [does not] even look like Lex and I’ve talked to him about this, I love him so much and I’m so proud of him. But still, it bothers me because he was, he is, ‘the Total Package’, Steve, and you know that. And for him not to be ‘the Total Package’ [anymore] bothers me and it upsets me.”

WWE Issues Statement Regarding The Passing Of Nick Bockwinkel

8

As noted, legendary former AWA World Champion and WWE Hall Of Famer Nick Bockwinkel passed away just shy of his 81st birthday.

WWE.com issued the following statement regarding Bockwinkel’s passing:

WWE is saddened to learn that Nick Bockwinkel, a WWE Hall of Famer and former four time AWA World Heavyweight Champion, has passed away at age 80.

Bockwinkel, known for his great in-ring skill and intelligent interviews, began his sports entertainment career in the mid-1950s after concluding his time on the University of Oklahoma football team. Bockwinkel was trained by his famous father, Warren Bockwinkel, and wrestling legend, Lou Thesz. Nick teamed with his father on many occassions, competing in Georgia, Texas and the Pacific Northwest before moving on to the where he would find the most success: the American Wrestling Association.

Bockwinkel was famously managed by WWE Hall of Famer Bobby “The Brain” Heenan during his AWA tenure, with the two drawing the ire of crowds everywhere. The self-proclaimed “Smartest Wrestler Alive” did it all during his time in AWA, with his crowning accomplishment coming when he defeated fellow WWE Hall of Famer and AWA legend Verne Gagne to win the AWA World Heavyweight Championship, ending Gagne’s historic seven-year run with the title.

Bockwinkel would go on to accumulate many more accolades as his career went on. From his nationally televised rivalry with Larry Zbyszko on ESPN to guest starring on “Hawaii Five-O,” the legend truly did it all. It was only fitting that his great career be capped off by his 2007 induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, where he will forever be enshrined as one of sports entertainments’ all-time greats.

WWE extends its condolences to Bockwinkel’s family, friends and fans.

Taz Talks Potential WWE Return, Reason He Left TNA, Expanding His Podcast & More

9

Former WWE Superstar and TNA announcer Taz recently spoke with Sports Illustrated’s “Extra Mustard” blog to promote his weekly podcast, The Taz Show: Bodyslams and Beyond. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On winning a Gold Communicators Award this year and expanding his weekly podcast:

“The amount of my downloads were high. CBS asked if I could see myself doing more than one show per week. Then I did two shows per week. CBS said, ‘Your numbers are insane, your content is awesome, and we want to give you the opportunity to do this every day.’

“The timing was great. I was having some financial issues with TNA, my contract was coming up in two months, and I had no intention of resigning with them. I was ready to segue into a new career. So CBS set up a meeting, and I signed a full-time deal and have a full-time daily show, and that’s the origin of ‘The Taz Show.’”

On going to TNA in 2009 and his recent departure:

“I left WWE when I needed a break. At the time, TNA was a good alternative for me. It was refreshing at the time, and things were being run pretty good. It felt right. Then, after a couple years–and I’m not going to sit here and bash people–decisions were made that weren’t good decisions and the company started to go in another direction. There was a leadership issue, and I felt like it was the perfect time to segue into my radio career. I wanted to get out of there, and I did.”

On if he would ever return to WWE:

“I would go back to WWE, but I could not and would not leave my career with CBS Radio and my show. I have a very good relationship with WWE, I’ve never burnt a bridge with them, and we’ve always had a mutual respect. Time will tell, but my show is my number one priority.”

Angelico and Son of Havoc are cheering her on and The Disciples clean house and leave Mil Muertes to demolish Ivelisse. There was an armbar spot that put Mil in danger but Mil recovered and shortly afterwards pins her. Katrina comes in to do her lick spot but does not do it; she then commands Mil to finish the job. He is about to kill Ivelisse when Prince Puma runs in, grabs her and runs off. She apologized fthis afternoon, writing on Facebook:

Ok ok… I do apologize if I offended anyone by my post last night.. It was made in jest. What I do not apologize for is my own off-color sense of humor and outspoken ways… Baby, I was born this way…. And nothing is going to change that. What you see is what you get.

Sunny previously went on the defensive after drawing backlash for her original statement.

If you all can’t take my posts as what they are, mostly joking, as all my posts are… Then GET OFF MY PAGE ALREADY!! For cryin out loud!!! Unfriend yourself and make room for people who matter!!!

Attention haters…. Please feel free to unfriend me, block me, etc. I won’t hurt my feelings one bit…. In fact, I welcome it, so I can add people who really matter to my Facebook friends list. People who appreciate my freedom of thought and my off-color sense of humor. I will never change, so you might as well just go away. Mmm-Kay??

If all of you can get so butt hurt over MY Facebook statuses, it’s really sad that your daily life revolves around that , and not something a little more important… Like making a living? Your family? Your own life??

The Bella Twins Were In Paris During Terrorist Attacks, Brother J.J. Says They’re Safe

30

As reported earlier this week, the Bella Twins were given permission by WWE to leave the current U.K. tour early, as the twin sisters had plans to take their grandmother to London and Paris for her 83rd birthday. As it turns out, Nikki and Brie were in Paris when the terrorist attacks took place on Friday.

The Bella Twins both posted photos from the L’Hotel, a five-star hotel in Paris that is located approximately 15 minutes away from the Bataclan concert hall, which is where over 100 people were killed and others were taken hostage.

Nikki and Brie are reportedly still in Paris, and while they have yet to post on Twitter or Instagram since the attacks occurred, their brother J.J. Garcia, who has appeared with them on Total Divas on multiple occasions, took to Twitter to inform Bella Twins fans that his sisters are safe.

J.J. posted the following on Twitter. Also below are photos that The Bella Twins posted from inside the L’Hotel in Paris.
