Two Big Matches WWE Is Planning For WrestleMania 32 Revealed

101

WWE is currently planning The Undertaker’s match for WrestleMania 32. PWInsider reports that the company is trying to put together a match between the Deadman and John Cena. If the match goes through as planned, it will be one of the two top matches at the company’s biggest PPV of the year. The other big match in the planning stages is The Rock vs. Triple H.

There’s no word on how the WWE Championship will fit in at WrestleMania, or if it will be defended in either of those potential matches. The current odds-on favorite to win the title at Survivor Series is Roman Reigns.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported Saturday that WWE’s original plans for Cena and ‘Taker had been changing throughout the week. He also noted, “There are ‘Mania plans in place, but Seth Rollins’ injury changes at least two matches.”

WrestleMania 32 takes place on April 3, 2016, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Alberto Del Rio Shows Up On Non-WWE TV In Angle Shot Pre-Signing; Will It Be Followed Up On?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BkH9xjZnrM

As initially reported in PRWrestling.com’s WWC Super Estrellas TV report (Spanish) and shown in the video embedded above, a new angle featuring Alberto Del Rio (technically Alberto El Patron) aired today on the Puerto Rican wrestling show. In the angle, Alberto walked into the Texas Wrestling Academy and saw Ray Gonzalez Jr. With Ray “Mr. Ratings” Gonzalez Sr. having hurt Ricardo Rodriguez, Alberto decided to send him a message by beating up his son.

While it looks like the angle was shot before Alberto re-signed with WWE, WWE confirmed to WrestlingObserver.com that he will be working the previously scheduled match for WWC. This makes sense, as WWC and WWE do have a fairly close relationship, as WWC promoter Carlos Colon does local promotion for WWE in Puerto Rico and his family members in WWE (son Primo/Diego/Eddie and nephew Epico/Fernando/Orlando, plus son Carlito/Carly in the past) get to work a few dates a year for WWC.

Batista Describes A Bad Experience He Had With A WWE Employee

29

Although he said he was open to a WWE return, Batista may now be rethinking that after having a bad experience with a WWE employee this week. The former WWE champ took to Twitter on Saturday to describe an incident where a WWE cameraman didn’t know his name, so just referred to him as “Mr. Cool Strong Dude.” Batista says he took it as a sign that his wrestling career is over.

Batista is currently making the rounds to promote his new movie 007 Spectre, which is projected to bring in over $82M at the box office this weekend.

Ric Flair Shares New Details On His Upcoming ESPN 30 For 30 Special

3

Ric Flair shared some details on his upcoming ESPN 30 For 30 special on a recent episode of his WOOOOO! Nation podcast. ESPN will be following Flair around at Survivor Series later this month to speak with other WWE wrestlers about Flair’s career. Here’s what Flair had to say:

“Well, it’s my whole life. It [has] a little bit to do with my airplane crash, of course, and then coming back from that. And then the titles and the championships and it touches a lot on my personal life, which has been up and down. Right now, it’s perfect, but I had a couple rough years there. And it talks about my son, Reid. [ESPN] wanted to talk about him, how special he was to me. And then, a lot about Ashley, Charlotte, who is now the champion in WWE, the Divas division. And about my other two children, Megan and David. So, it was very nice. And then, it talked about where I am today”.

Flair also explained that getting WWE to agree that ESPN could use their video footage was no easy task. The WWE Hall of Famer said the process took over a year and a half.

“The WWE is very, very protective of their intellectual property,” Flair claimed. “[The project] is mutually beneficial for all of us, but it just took a while to get everybody on the same page and to work on it diligently for, I guess, it has been a year and a half now. And all of a sudden, it’s coming to fruition.”

“We shot the first six hours, and we’ll shoot another six or seven hours, which [WOOOOO! Nation co-host, Conrad Thompson] will be a part of, at [WWE] Survivor Series. And then, there will be another six-hour shoot. And then, of course, all of the stuff [ESPN] will pull from the library in Stamford, Connecticut with the WWE to put together the whole film. So it’ll be exciting!”

There’s no word yet on when the show will air.

  • IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

The matches were announced at Saturday’s Power Struggle event. Fans are flipping out on Twitter about the Nakamura vs. Styles match and rightfully so. These two have somehow never faced each other in singles action and NJPW just proved once again why WrestleKingdom is one of the premiere shows of the year.

Mick Foley Talks About NXT’s Impact On Indy Promotions, Women’s Wrestling & More

1

Mick Foley recently spoke with AuburnPub.com to promote tonight’s Northeast Wrestling “Prison City Slam” event in Auburn, NY. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

NXT’s Effect on the Independent Scene:

“I certainly think it shines a light on how much great talent is out there on the scene. We used to have a tendency to look down on indy wrestlers. Now indy wrestlers are looked at and treated with a new respect. It’s a conversation I just had with some of the indy guys. Having come from an indy background myself, I understood how difficult it is to work hard each night and, in “wrestle speak,” get over with a different audience without the benefit of known entrance music, that Pavlovian response, and an established fan base. So I think NXT is great for indy wrestling, and knowing that when we come to Auburn, fans may very well be seeing the stars of the future of the wrestling business.”

The State Of Women’s Wrestling:

“I think the only thing that remains is to change the established patterns of wrestling fans who, for years, saw Divas matches as a time to get up and take a break. So most people are catching on, are taking note of the marked improvement in the women’s division. I think calling it the women’s division, dropping the “Divas” moniker, is the next logical step in that progression.”

His Daughter Noelle Getting Involved In The Business:

“I would love for Noelle to be on the other side of the business, the non-wrestling side, but the truth is that if she were to come to Auburn High, she would outdraw me as far as autographs. She definitely draws a crowd. We all grew up loving wrestling, and we still do.”

Daniel Bryan Talks About The ‘Scripted Entertainment’ Aspect Of Wrestling

4

Daniel Bryan spoke to NDTV this past week while in India to announce WWE’s live tour of the country in January 2016. Among the topics discussed, Bryan gave his take on fans who call wrestling “fake” and how he views the entertainment aspect of the sport:

“You know how in art, there’s this term, postmodernism, and it’s basically, art for entertainment? I think we’ve become a little like that. I mean, everyone starts to knowingly say, ‘it’s fake, it’s fake,’ and then the word ‘entertainment’ comes into our name, and I think that the audience doesn’t react the same way – you see something amazing, and you go, ‘yeah, that’s just a part of the script’.”

“But of course it’s also real, it’s really difficult and you can get badly injured. That’s why we’ve got to keep telling people, ‘don’t try this at home,’ because it is entertainment, but it’s also real. It’s difficult, and it’s painful.”

Finn Balor Attending Upcoming RAW & SmackDown Tapings, Hideo Itami & Sami Zayn Updates

7

– NXT Champion Finn Balor is scheduled to attend several RAW and SmackDown tapings after Survivor Series. He is currently overseas with WWE for this week’s European tour and defeated Sheamus on Friday night at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Balor attending RAW and SmackDown tapings is by no means an indication that he’ll be appearing on WWE television any time soon. That said, with the absences of John Cena, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton, it might not be a bad idea to feature Balor on WWE TV to at least hype NXT Takeover: London (12/16).

– Sami Zayn won’t be back in action any time soon. He was at the Performance Center several weeks ago but has not been training regularly for a return. He has stated publicly that he won’t be back until early 2016.

– Hideo Itami also continues to rehabilitate his shoulder after undergoing surgery back in May. He was slated to miss around 6-8 months of action and has not yet returned to the WWE Performance Center for training.

Details On How Much WWE Is Really Paying Alberto Del Rio, Konnan Comments

32

WWE United States champion Alberto Del Rio had reportedly signed a $1.45M contract for his return with the company, but a WWE spokesperson recently commented to Wrestling Observer Live that the number is not accurate. Instead, they claim that the real number was “about one-third of that.” Contracts worth $1M per year or more are usually reserved only for WWE’s biggest stars.

Konnan commented on Del Rio’s return on a recent edition of MLW Radio, corroborating the Wrestling Observer report by saying that Del Rio’s contract had a downside guarantee of about $450,000 per year. Konnan also mentioned that Del Rio is happy to be back in WWE, and the two sides had worked out whatever problems they had.

Konnan mentioned that Del Rio is obligated to make at least two more appearances for AAA in Mexico. Although AAA is disappointed they are losing their champion, Del Rio is reportedly leaving the company on good terms.

AJ Lee On Establishing Her Wrestling Look, Avoiding Wardrobe Malfunctions

16

Former WWE Diva AJ Lee recently spoke with WomenWriteAboutComics.com about a number of topics, including developing her trademark style in WWE and how she would go about avoiding wardrobe malfunctions. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On her trademark ring attire in WWE:

“I purposely chose to wear a lot of things most people found visually offensive. At first, I picked lots of polka dots and plaid fabrics since it was intriguing to me to utilize something not traditionally feminine or attractive. My thought process was “let’s see if I can succeed while being as innocent as possible.”

I would eventually choose an outfit I felt was a second skin; Converse sneakers, jean shorts, and a cotton t-shirt. I wanted to pick something that reflected my practical style, was comfortable to move in, covered up the goods, and most importantly—was simple to cosplay. I wanted to encourage girls to dress up like me, and in order to do that, the costume had to be instantly recognizable and easily duplicated. Over the years I’ve had hundreds of young women and girls dress up like me for Halloween or at comic cons. It’s wonderfully weird.

On avoiding wardrobe malfunctions:

“Ah, the dreaded nip slip. The ever-looming dark cloud of a compromising HDTV screen grab. Never happened to me, but I was also a wizard with double sided tape and often chose a safe bet of a neckline. The key was really to design an outfit with movement in mind.”

Viewership For This Week’s Episode Of WWE SmackDown (11/5)

0

The 11/5 edition of WWE SmackDown on Thursday night averaged 2.123 million viewers. This is up slightly from last week’s 2.117 million.

This week’s episode of SmackDown was taped in Colorado Springs, CO, and was headlined by Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens. Also appearing on the show were Alberto Del Rio, Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt, among others.

The Nielsen ratings for the night should be in soon.

John Cena Hosting NBC’s Today Show This Coming Monday

12

WWE announced on Friday that John Cena will be returning to NBC’s Today Show this coming Monday at 9am EST.

In response to the news of Seth Rollins’ knee injury this week, there have been reports that WWE is reaching out to major stars to appear on Monday’s RAW.  With Cena scheduled to be in New York City on Monday morning, that essentially rules out the possibility of him making a surprise appearance on Monday’s RAW from Manchester, England.

Cena is taking a hiatus from WWE for “personal reasons” and is rumored to be filming a TV project for the Fox network during his absence.

WWE Rearranging House Show Lineups In Light Of Seth Rollins’ Injury

23

With Seth Rollins blowing out his knee and Dublin, Ireland and vacating the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, WWE has a lot of things to get done. Of course, in the big picture, they need to figure out who will become the new champion and how. The more immediate concern, though, is how to deal with the house shows. WWE is already missing John Cena (on hiatus), Randy Orton (injured), and Daniel Bryan (not cleared due to concerns over the quantity of concussions he’s suffered), so there aren’t a lot of of options.

What did they do, then?

According to Dave Meltzer at F4WOnline.com and Mike Johnson at PWInsider.com, Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose have been moved from the “Roman Reigns” tour to what had been the “Seth Rollins” tour.  That means that the top three matches on each tour are now:

The Former Seth Rollins crew:

* Kevin Owens vs. Dean Ambrose
* Kane vs. The Big Show
* New Day vs. The Dudleys

The Roman Reigns crew:

* Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt in a street fight
* Ryback & The Usos vs. Braun Strowman, Erick Rowan, & Luke Harper
* Alberto Del Rio vs. King Barrett vs. Neville in a Triple Threat Match.

Discussion: Who Will Be Crowned WWE Champion At Survivor Series?

112

Well, that dreaded day has come. Seth Rollins is out for 6-9 months with a knee injury, the WWE World Heavyweight championship is being vacated and the main event booking plans for the next 6 months are now out the window.

WWE is scrambling to bring in big names to fill out a star-deprived roster and a new champion will be crowned in less than two weeks at Survivor Series. The fact that WWE finds themselves in such a bad spot without multiple young talents ready to fill the void is a lengthy discussion for another day.

What I want to hear from you is who you think is ready right now? Who do you think is ready to take the next step? Who is genuinely ready to carry the show?

WWE could go in a number of directions from here. We could see Roman Reigns continue on his path, win the championship tournament and stand tall as the new babyface champion. Another popular ‘fantasy booking’ scenario has Reigns turning heel, aligning himself with The Authority and becoming the new golden boy sellout champion, not unlike his old pal Seth Rollins. We could also see a dark horse champion emerge, perhaps a Kevin Owens or even Mr. Money in the Bank, Sheamus.

Comment below and tell us how you think it will all go down at Survivor Series!

The Boogeyman Signs WWE Legends Deal

30

Former WWE star The Boogeyman tweeted on Friday that he has signed a WWE Legends contract.

The Boogeyman, real name Martin Wright, worker for WWE from 2005 through 2009 before being released. He was last seen in a WWE ring in the 2015 Royal Rumble match, where he appeared as a surprise entrant. He’s also made appearances on a few WWE Network programs.

Batista Says He’d Love To Work With The Rock In Hollywood Or A WWE Ring

9

Former WWE star Batista spoke with WWE.com to promote the opening of his new James Bond movie Spectre. Here are the highlights of what The Animal said about:

Where are we more likely to see him with The Rock, on a movie set or in the ring at WrestleMania?

“That’s a good question. I would take either opportunity. At this point, you’re more likely to see us in the ring together. If you flash back to WrestleMania XX, that would be the only time. I don’t have any plans right now to return to the ring or to do a film with Dwayne, but I would jump at the chance for either opportunity.”

Does he think about returning to WWE one day?

“I miss it so much. What I really thought was so interesting is the way that Chris Jericho went back and did Live Events. Live Events are fun, man. It’s really just all about you and the audience. I always just loved that. I’m passionate about it. I’m proud to be a pro wrestler because I love it.”

Bill Goldberg Compares His Acting Career To The Rock’s

20

https://youtu.be/EufLcS67NpQ

Former WCW star Bill Goldberg recently spoke with the Huffington Post about his role in the new movie “Check Point.” During the discussion, Goldberg compares his acting career to The Rock’s, talks about his new movie and more. Below are some of the highlights.

On the emotional plot of Check Point:

“Terrorism, as a whole, is — I don’t want to say ‘taboo’ — but it is a very emotional subject. For the plot of the movie to be that it is homegrown. The fact that it happens on our own soil and at the hands of our own citizens is touchy. Not only is it a reminder of the harsh reality that terrorism exists, but that it can actually be carried out on somebody that was born in the United States.”

On why he was attracted to the project:

“With my involvement with the military, and always wanting to raise awareness, I thought it was a perfect project.”

On how this role varies from his usual ones:

“Is it stretching my acting legs? No — and yes. The part is an extension of myself, but any time I’m able to surround myself with experienced actors, I can do nothing but grow.”

On The Rock’s acting compared to his:

“‘The Rock’ has definitely set the bar. He’s in a class by himself, and he always will be, I believe. He’s an ‘entertainer,’ and always has been — in the ring and out. I’m more of a ‘competitor;’ I like to go in the ring and let people judge the competition.”

Welcome to the first installment of the rebooted SEScoops Mailbag. We got a ton of questions sent in the first day – keep ’em coming! Email [email protected] with the subject line “Mailbag” and you might see your question answered here next week. Here we go:

Jon E asks… Who do you consider to be the most successful British wrestler of all time? I have always considered it to be Davey Boy Smith for his impact yet others (such as Regal and Barrett) have arguably won more titles and held them for longer.

David Bixenspan: It’s hard to say, even if you’re going by international stardom. Davey Boy Smith was probably the biggest British star in an international promotion, yes. He was a huge part of WWE packing Wembley Stadium for SummerSlam ’92, was a legitimate draw as tag champ in the mid-‘80s, and had been a big star in Japan. That’s not even factoring in his ’93-’97 work.

Billy Robinson was very successful as a headliner in Japan, Canada, and the United States. He was a big enough deal in Japan to be in demand to switch promotions when it was rare, and he was, at times, the top full-time (Verne Gagne and Da Crusher were part-time) babyface in the AWA during its ‘70s heyday.

It’s probably between the two of them. William Regal is/was a magnificent performer in every facet and was on his way to a big run on top in Japan…when his addictions got the better of him. He never really had that big run, though he also found himself a nice gig as a trainer and talent scout in WWE. Wade Barrett just doesn’t have the success yet. Someone like Dynamite Kid has an argument, but he was never a headline level star in Japan and his best North American singles runs were in smaller territories. If you want to factor in Brits who mostly stuck to Europe and countries where British talent was booked, like India and South Africa, it’s tricky due to lack of records.

Everett W asks… Do you guys ever see an African American as a wwe champion in this lifetime? And who

Brad Davis: I will take it that you’re wondering if we will see ANOTHER African American WWE Champion in this lifetime, since The Rock already accomplished that feat back in 1998. Yes, I certainly do think we will see an African American WWE Champion ‘in this lifetime.’ I venture to say that NXT star Apollo Crews will hold the WWE Championship in the next 5 years. He has the look, he’s incredibly athletic and he’s been getting rave reviews for his work in NXT.

Another African American talent that could very well be WWE Champion one day is Jason Jordan. He and Chad Gable have been burning up the tag team scene in NXT and the idea of them going their separate ways any time soon is something I want to stop thinking about immediately. However, he’s proving month after month that he could be a ‘total package.’ If he can stay healthy and continue to improve at the rate we’ve seen from him so far, its only a matter of time before he’s making a name for himself on the main roster.

Brave asks… Which wrestlers do you guys think aren’t used to their full potential? And you’d like to see used more or in a better way?

A Realist: Well, aside from the obvious candidates such as Bray Wyatt, Stardust/Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, and Cesaro, I have three. Three acts that WWE tragically underutilizes:

1) Adam Rose: This is a big one for me. He has proven time and time again that he can make a turd into gold. He is a great hand, who is a proven remarkable actor. Look at the stark differences between Leo Kruger and Adam Rose, and this new “Party Pooper” Rose. Night and day. And the fact that they blew a giant opportunity with the Leo Kruger character confounds me.

2) The Lucha Dragons: The WWE is always looking for their next big Hispanic star. Their next Rey Mysterio. As much as I appreciate Albert The River (props if you get it) and his work, it’s not him. It rests on the shoulders of these two remarkable high-flyers. Specifically, Kallisto. The guy has “megastar” written all over him–if booked and built up properly. Not to mention the matches that these two can have with one another in the inevitable break up…

3) The Ascension: I know I’m going to catch flack for this one, but with their original Raven’s Flock Goth gimmick, they could have been something special. Lie to me and tell me that you didn’t get hyped with their original entrance. Not to mention, they really do remind me of an old school Demolition or LOD type team. They just needn’t be so blatant in their gimmick infringement.

NATEOB asks… Say between the years of 1999-2001 who do you think WWF dropped the ball with making a mid carder into a main eventer? Guys like Shamrock? Val Venis? X-pac. Guys like that.

A Realist: Easily, hands down D’Lo Brown. The guy carried himself like a superstar, had that amazing in ring prowess, the swagger to back up his mouth–guy had it all. He even made it a point to cut weight, and get into better shape. That shows dedication and commitment to the craft. So to reward him, WWE put a turban on his head, and gave him a horrible Middle Eastern gimmick with a former Headbanger.

Shawn J asks… Do you think Seth would work better as a Face? He’s too much of a coward and he doesn’t look strong going into his PPV matches as of late. He puts on the best matches on PPV but I rather him look strong so he can look more believable. He said he’s the best WWE champion ever but  he gets pinned/submitted/DQ almost every week.

Brad Davis: Seth Rollins is going to make one hell of a babyface when the time comes and will be a bigger star as a babyface than he has been as a heel. Even though he plays the part well, WWE has taken the cowardly aspect of his character entirely too far and he does lose way too many matches. The Authority are sadly the true top heels in WWE, but Rollins has gotten himself over as a main eventer since WrestleMania is showing all the tell-tale signs of a Hall of Fame career.

Rollins is so good in the ring and his high-flying move set is better suited for a babyface. I know I wasn’t the only one who thought WWE was foreshadowing a babyface turn from Rollins when he started rocking his white ring gear at SummerSlam. Now that Rollins has been sidelined with a knee injury until mid 2016, he’s going to get a hero’s welcome return pop that will rival Triple H at MSG after his torn quad back in the day.

Ken B asks… If WWE could bring back Wargames, do you think they could pull it off?

David Bixenspan: They could, as it was WCW’s intellectual property and they own WCW’s intellectual property. it’s just that Vince McMahon is resistant to using a “WCW”/Dusty Rhodes idea. I have no doubt that WWE could put on an amazing Wargames with the talent they have, but that’s the big hurdle. Perhaps the best question is if those who have tried pitching it, like Triple H, have tried to feel out if he actually knows how the rules to the match work and if they could pitch a similar alternative. For example, if Triple H or whoever want pushed for a six man tag team Elimination Chamber match that was effectively War-games rules, could they get it past Vince? I honestly don’t know. Vince very rarely watched the opposition’s shows and it’s been a long time (18 years) since WCW’s last proper/original rules Wargames, so it’s entirely possible that it could get snuck past him.
