WWE SmackDown To Remain On Thursday Nights In 2016

5

WWE SmackDown will remain on Thursday nights when the show moves from Syfy to the USA Network in January, according to USA Network president Chris McCumber.

McCumber told AdAge.com that the plan is to package Smackdown with a new series on Thursday nights, with SmackDown remaining in its 8pm EST time slot on the east coast.

There had been talk of SmackDown going live each week and moving to Tuesday nights, with Jerry Lawler recently confirming this change was being considered. WWE will continue to tape SmackDown on Tuesday nights since a second live show so late in the week would be a rough situation for WWE’s production team.

Randy Orton Shoulder Surgery Could Keep Him Out Until WrestleMania

14

WWE confirmed on Monday that Randy Orton is dealing with another shoulder injury. Surgery and recovery time could keep The Viper out of action until WrestleMania. Dr. Steve Daquino told WWE.com:

“Randy has suffered from a dislocated shoulder. He’s had chronic problems with his shoulder, and a recent MRI that was done found he has a Bankart lesion in his shoulder, some stretched ligaments and a partially torn rotator cuff.”

“At this point it’s a matter of when he dislocates the shoulder again, and not if. Surgery seems imminent, and recovery time for such a surgery would be four to six months.”

WWE Survivor Series takes place on Sunday, November 22nd from Atlanta, Georgia.

WWE RAW Results – November 2, 2015

Tonight’s RAW play by play gives thanks to Jason Powell of prowrestling.net.

WWE RAW Opener:

[Q1] Roman Reigns made his entrance through the crowd while Michael Cole, JBL, and Byron Saxton checked in on commentary. Cole said it was a career defining week for Reigns last week when he became No. 1 contender. They aired footage of the four-way match that Reigns won to earn that status.

Reigns said based off the crowd’s energy, he was proud to be in Denver. He said he’s also proud to be No. 1 contender and the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Reigns said Seth Rollins is very good in the ring, but he’s also good at brown nosing and kissing the ass of The Authority.

Reigns said he doesn’t like people who pucker up, lie to his face, or weasels. “So I guess I don’t like Seth Rollins,” he surmised. He said there’s not a force on earth who can stop him from beating Rollins.

Seth Rollins made his entrance and spoke from the stage. Rollins noted that Reigns complimented him and said he would return the favor. He ran through some of Reigns’ career highlights, then said he’d always be second best compared to him. Rollins said the fans will remember Reigns as the guy who used to carry his bags.

Reigns invited Rollins to get in the ring to find out who the real man is. Rollins started walking toward the ring, but he was stopped when Triple H and Stephanie McMahon made their entrance. Stephanie McMahon said that they need to make it official. She asked the crowd how many of them wanted to see the match. She told them they would get it, but just not tonight.

Hunter said he knew they would fall for it. He said they knew they were in high altitude, but he asked just how high the fans were. Stephanie mocked the idea of giving away the match in Denver, then announced the match will take place at the Survivor Series.

Hunter booked a traditional five-on-five Survivor Series match. He said Reigns would captain and choose one team, and Rollins would captain and choose the other team. Hunter told him to choose wisely because his survival may depend on it…

The broadcast team hyped the women’s four-way match, and Bray Wyatt talking later in the show… Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler were shown walking backstage. Cole said they would meet after the break… [C]

The broadcast team congratulated the Kansas City Royals for winning the World Series. They showed off the title belt that “Triple H sent” the team…

Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler

[Q2] 1. Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler in a non-title match. An Owens pre-tape aired with Owens saying he proves he’s the greatest IC Champion of all-time. Ziggler performed a DDT and Owens rolled to ringside. Tyler Breeze’s music played and he and Summer Rae made their entrance. [C]

An Owens pre-tape aired with Owens saying he proves he’s the greatest IC Champion of all-time. Ziggler performed a DDT and Owens rolled to ringside. Tyler Breeze’s music played and he and Summer Rae made their entrance. [C]

Breeze and Summer were seated in their VIP section next to the broadcast table. They broadcast shots from Tyler’s phone on his Facebook page. In the ring, Owens hit a nice German suplex on Ziggler. He tried to follow up with a cannonball, but Ziggler caught him with a superkick for a two count. Breeze stood up and took a selfie with his back to the ring. Ziggler took a swipe at him, but Breeze moved. Ziggler walked into a Pop-Up Powerbomb…

Kevin Owens defeated Tyler Breeze in a non-title match in 11:00.

After the match

Breeze entered the ring with his selfie stick and posed over Ziggler. Dolph threw a punch at him. When Dolph went to stand up, Breeze caught him with a Beauty Shot. Tyler and Summer posed for a selfie over the fallen Ziggler…

Nikki attended the final show on Taylor Swift’s “1989” tour on Saturday night with John Cena in Tampa, Florida.

Randy Orton Speaks On RKO Video Phenomenon Online, His Favorite RKO

10

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsShHuJfgDc

Randy Orton recently spoke with CraveOnline about the massive amounts of fan-made RKO videos on the internet, where fans edit Orton delivering an RKO into videos of people falling. He also reveals his personal favorite RKO that he has handed out in the ring.

On the RKO videos:

[Laughs] Yeah, every once in awhile I’ll see a real good one and I’ll tweet it or something. They’re great. I guess it’s been about a year since the first one came out. There’s been so many. I think lately the coolest ones I’ve seen are the Batman vs Superman trailer and making it about the RKO. Then there’s this one called The Ortoning [laughs] and it’s a knock off The Conjuring, which I thought that was kind of funny and re-tweeted that a couple of days ago. What can I say? They’re goofy, they’re funny and for some reason it just doesn’t get old so people keep doing it. It’s not a flash in the pan either. It’s been over a year now. I think that’s pretty cool.

On his favorite RKO:

Gosh, the one with Evan Bourne is up there. The one with Seth [Rollins] at WrestleMania is up there. There have been a few real cool ones out of nowhere but the one with Evan Bourne is my favorite.

Steve Austin: I’m 99.9% Sure I’ve Already Had My Last Match

16

WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin recently spoke with Brian Fritz of FoxSports.com and addressed the possibility of having a match at WrestleMania 32. Here’s what he had to say:

“I think 99.9 percent I’ve had my last match,” said Austin. “If I felt froggy and wanted to jump for any particular reason, just because I said right now I have the fever for it, I’d like to do it. But for all practical, intrinsic, whatever kind of purposes, I’m done. Again, if I felt like it, could I? Yeah. Would I? In a dream world. possibly. I’m not trying to promote a match and pretty much I am done. I would always reserve the option.”

“I considered it for just a brief moment but again, just like I tell everybody, what’s on the backside of a match like that, you know?” wondered Austin. “I got out of the business when I got out. The hunger was out of my system. It’s almost like getting off an addiction. I’m not addicted to wrestling anymore. For a long time I was. So what’s on the backside of that match for me? A whole lot of nothing. So it would be a lot of buildup and, to me, it would be almost anti-climactic.”

Austin says if he did take the jump, Brock Lesnar would likely be his choice for an opponent:

“With respect to all of the WWE superstars currently in the system and any legends they could bring back, that would be a big-ass match just because of the fact that if it was going to be my last match going up against Brock Lesnar who’s absolutely on fire right now and the fact that I’m from the great state of Texas. I started in Dallas and could end it in Dallas — that would be all the stars aligning.”

Ronda Rousey On If She’s Ready For A WWE Run, WWE Focusing On Women & More

19

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey recently spoke with Rolling Stone about her interest in WWE. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On if she’s ready for WWE:

“I’m ready. I’ve seen NXT, I remember Nattie and Charlotte’s match for the title. Nattie was actually training with the original Four Horsewomen to get ready for that fight. I have so many obligations, but I really want to find a way to make it happen. I’m a huge fan wrestling, and I would like to see the position of women in the sport continue to improve, so if I can be a part of it, great.”

On WWE focusing more on women:

“I’m really encouraged by the progress I’ve seen with what they’re doing with the women in WWE, but I feel like there’s a lot more than can be done. They’re doing some of it now, too. I’m really excited that they’ve brought up all these great women from NXT, who are all different from the normal mold they would use for the Divas division. I’m not going to take credit for anything, but I definitely want to be part of it as much as I can.”

On if she will be at WrestleMania 32:

“Uh, well, I’m going to be filming at that time – and I don’t want to ruin any surprises anyway. If you’re a wrestling fan, you’ll just let it happen.”

Shark Boy Talks Steve Austin Parody, TNA Pay Issues & More

5

Longtime wrestler Shark Boy recently appeared as a guest on The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling Podcast. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On coming back to TNA after an extended hiatus and the changes: “Just because whenever you leave somewhere and go away for a while and you come back things are always different so it’s not unlike any other job or profession. For me more then anything it was an opportunity not only to get back on TV for a little bit and for me that creates a ripple effect because I can get some Independent work out of it and some good things happen so I always look forward to that. But more then anything I look forward to seeing old friends, people I haven’t seen in awhile and maybe some new people that I’ve seen there work and have never been able to shake their hand before and just getting to see everybody that I used to run down the roads with and I hardly ever see them or talk to them anymore is something that I always look forward to with that element with returning to TNA.”

On if he surprised to see so many new faces in TNA: “Was I surprised? No. I try to keep up with the product even when I’m not a part of it. I try to know what is going on because I can’t watch every episode although I try. There is so much wrestling on TV now, there’s actually an entire network dedicated to it and there is so much you can look at on the Internet. I’ve got a new baby boy and he is only seven months old so that eats into my time a lot. So I try to keep up with the product and when I got down there and saw a bunch of new faces, I knew they were trying to do new things and try new guys out. But that’s the nature of the business. You’ve got to keep it fresh and you’ve got to have new faces with your product or otherwise it gets stale.”

On if he did he experience any pay issues like other talents have complained of in the past: “I think that there may have possibly been a situation where things would be late a little while but I’ve got a list of promoters that owe me money and TNA is not on it. They’ve made good on everything they have ever promised me or said they were going to pay me and they have made good on it. I don’t fall into that category. If there are guys that claim that, then I couldn’t speak to that either. I just can tell you that was not my personal experience with the company and whenever there was a delay I think in my case they were honest about what was going on. Usually some office red tape because you have to realize that there is a bigger company in Texas and the TNA Wrestling company is in Nashville so sometimes things had to go up the ladder and back down. So that can create delays sometimes. In my case, whenever I ran into any delays or something like that I never thought they were trying to stiff me.”

On doing the “Shell Yeah” gimmick: “Shark Boy was a character that had never spoken up to that point. It all stemmed from a silly impression that I would do to cut up the boys. It started on a tour of India where Simon Diamond and Sonjay Dutt and I were just being silly. Simon was telling everybody backstage at TNA what does Stone Cold think of this topic and I’d launch into the impression and people would laugh and think it was funny. Jeff Jarrett heard it and said he wanted me to do it on TV. What started out as a silly impression of one of my favorite all time wrestlers and is truly meant to be a satire, but in my mind it’s meant to be a tribute because I think he is one of the best ever. I look at it like it’s not really Stone Cold; its Stone Cold meets Sponge Bob Square Pants. It’s my take on it. He says “Hell Yeah” and I say “Shell Yeah”, I don’t say “damn” I say, “clam”, he drinks beer and I drink clam juice. It’s a parody and it’s a lot of fun and there isn’t a lot of fun in wrestling anymore.”

Mick Foley To Write Weekly Spotlights On Impressive Indy Wrestlers

2

foley matt hardy

Mick Foley recently wrote a blog post on his Facebook page detailing his experiences in the independent wrestling circuit over the last several months. Foley praises the work ethic of the indy wrestlers, and says he’s going to try to help give exposure to the some of the more impressive unsigned talents he encounters.

Here’s what he had to say:

IN PRAISE OF INDEPENDENT WRESTLING

I simply can not say enough about the work ethic, dedication and skill of so many of the wrestlers I’ve had the chance to watch and work with over the past several months. Things have changed quite a bit from when I broke into the Indie scene almost 30 years ago (I began training in 1985, but had my first match in 1986) when promoters regularly burned towns, advertised stars who had never been booked, or offered up weak knock-offs meant to fool fans into thinking they were seeing the real deal. Hey, I worked many a match as 1/2 of the South Sea Islanders against the Rock ‘n’ Roll Connection, so I’m not completely innocent here. I’m know this type of thing still goes on today – not one, but TWO Mick Foley knock-offs on the scene – but they seem to be the exception to the rule.

And the rule of the day in Independent wrestling seems to be to that hard work pays off. Building a fan-base, delivering what they want, and sending them home happy…if exhausted. Personally, last night’s 6 hour ?#?XWA? show in ?#?Providence? may have been a tad long. Maybe more than a tad. But within those 6 hours, there was SO much to like. I saw moves I’ve yet to learn the names of from wrestlers I’ve yet to learn the names of – and stuff that would have been right at home on a major PPV – with the intimacy and connection to an audience that only a grass-roots Indy can provide.

In the weeks that follow, I will try to provide an “Indie spotlight of the week” to talk about someone who has impressed me in his travels. You know who impressed me last night? The promoter. For real. The guy finds out on ?#?Halloween? night that AJ Styles – one of the most durable, phenomenal performers of his generation (yeah, that’s high praise, but he’s earned it) won’t be able to wrestle because of a legit back injury. What’s a promoter to do? Throw up your hands, explain the situation to the fans, hope they understand, right? Not this guy. He not only does the right thing by bringing AJ in, despite the fact that we won’t be able to wrestle – but on HALLOWEEN night, he books Matt Hardy….yes, Matt BLEEPIN’ Hardy as his replacement. Then Matt, a guy who could have decided to coast comfortably off his name and reputation for the forseable future tears the house down with JT Dunn AFTER 5 hours of EVERY MOVE EVER INVENTED has been seen. Incredible. Those fans were with it too- and even rose to the occasion when two old guys like me and King Corrino got involved in the shennanigans ourselves.

A year ago, I would say hello to the guys, do my autographs, and try to find a quiet spot to decompress. Things are different now. I watch as many of the matches as I can. I give feedback when I’m asked. Those requests used to seem like hassles. Now they feel like giant compliments. I offer up whatever I can – always stressing that my opinion is one of many, and should be listened to, and valued, but never given a loftier perch than that of one dude’s opinion. Please feel free to tell me about someone you’ve seen tearing it down on your own indie scene – and what you think the future might hold in store for him or her.

My next Indie shows are in SCOTLAND – in ?#?ABERDEEN? & ?#?GLASGOW?. One show should be awesome, the other, totally insane! See you there! http://www.realmickfoley.com/events/

RVD Comments On Why He Likely Won’t Appear At WrestleMania 32

4

Former WWE and ECW star Rob Van Dam recently took part in a Periscope Q&A where he was asked by a fan if he would be returning to WWE at WrestleMania 32.

RVD explained that if he were to appear at WrestleMania he would have to start appearing on WWE TV soon to build up the match, and that he doesn’t like going on the road during the winter months. He says while it would be a bad time for him to return, he is open to the idea of getting back in a WWE ring at a later time.

Back in September, RVD said he could still perform in the ring the same way he could 20 years ago, but didn’t think it was something he wanted:

“I have a merchandise deal with the WWE and right now, I’m too on the go. I have no reason to do a run right now. Honestly, it’s better not to … I don’t see that changing in the future. Physically, I feel great. I’ve always said, I’m unique in that way. People say wrestling wears you down, but no one thinks I just don’t want to. I can do the same as I did 20 years ago. Who knows, maybe someone threw it out there for reaction and the internet has had its fun with it.”

Note On Alberto Del Rio’s WWE Return, Lilian Garcia To Miss RAW, WWE Network

12

– As noted, the deal to bring Alberto Del Rio back to WWE was done a few weeks prior to his return appearance at the WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. Del Rio’s new deal was not known to most in the company, but many knew something was brewing and expected Del Rio back in the company no later than next year’s WrestleMania 32 event in Texas.

– WWE Network announced the following additions for November:

Relive Brock Lesnar’s destructive introduction and rise to the top of WWE, spanning March 2002 to March 2004, with the addition of more than 170 hours of Raw and SmackDown episodes to the award-winning WWE Network. Watch The Beast Incarnate’s first appearance on Raw, WWE Championship reign on SmackDown and much more anytime, anywhere on demand.”

– Lilian Garcia will not be doing the announcing for tonight’s WWE RAW due to the European tour, as she will be handling those duties for the SmackDown shows. Eden will instead handle the ring announcing for tonight’s RAW. Garcia tweeted the following:

Jimmy Snuka Arraigned On Murder Charges In The Death Of Nancy Argentino; Judge Issues Gag Order

8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0-Z-GXKEWQ

The latest chapter in the three decade-plus long saga of the death of Nancy Argentino started today, as Jimmy Snuka was officially arraigned on involuntary manslaughter and third degree murder charges in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh County Court. Argentino was Snuka’s girlfriend from Brooklyn, New York who travelled the WWF territory with him while his family lived in North Carolina.

A number of things came out in court today, as reported by  Sarah Cassi of Lehigh Valley Live (who also live-tweeted the hearing on her Twitter account):

* Snuka, 72, claims to be suffering from some form of early-onset dementia as well as complications from post-concussion syndrome. If true, that means he developed symptoms for well over seven years, as “early-onset” means “before 65 years old.” When Judge Kelly Banach asked some questions used to determine if someone is competent to stand trial, Snuka didn’t know what day of the week it was or what city he was in.  He also said that “I never really been to school” and never got a high school diploma or equivalent diploma. Snuka’s lawyer, Robert Kirwan, added that “He had good days. He has bad days. Today is actually a good day.”

* The judge issued a gag order on the participants as well as the Argentino family, saying that “I’m not going to permit this case to be tried in the press.” Chief Deputy District Attorney Charles Gallagher III requested the order in light of the statements that Kirwan made after the last hearing. Kirwan pointing out that the Argentino family had been participating in a Dateline NBC story about the case is what led to the judge adding them to the order. While the proceedings remain open to the public, everyone under the gag order can not speak publicly about the case outside of the courtroom.

* If the case does go to trial with Snuka deemed competent, Kirwan wants an out-of-county jury, presumably because locals have seen by far the most non-wrestling media coverage of the case.

Batista Vents About His Most Recent Run With WWE & Reveals What The Rock Warned Him About

30

Former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet of WSVN Miami  to promote the new James Bond: Spectre movie which hits hits theaters this Friday.

Photo: Batista On The Cover Of Muscle & Fitness Magazine

Batista sought out advice from The Rock about the transition from WWE to Hollywood and revealed that The Rock warned him to keep his sights set on his goals and not to get trapped in the ‘quicksand’ of WWE.

“I always found it amazing that he was actually able to go from film to wrestling and back to film to wrestling, and he described it as quicksand especially with the company, WWE because they are very controlling. They’re not the easiest company to deal with.”

“And he said don’t get caught in the quicksand, you’re not trapped here, you have to be strong and have to stand your ground. If this is what you want to do, you have to make it known and you’re not going to deviate from that plan. And that’s what I did when I went back for my short stint with WWE. He helped me make it work.”

Batista said that he would love to return to WWE one day, but his last run was anything but enjoyable. He didn’t want to be a babyface and wasn’t surprised when fans rejected the way his character was portrayed.

“I was just constantly butting heads with them creatively, which is something we talked about well beforehand and I was promised things that weren’t delivered to me. For one, I didn’t want to go back as a babyface. I said it’s not going to work, they don’t want to see me as a babyface. Nobody wants to see Batista as a babyface. I’m the worst babyface ever. But I’m a good heel, I know how to be a heel, I’m comfortable being a heel and the fans want me to be a heel. But they tried to shove me down everybody’s throats, and they rebelled.”

“They are not idiots and they don’t like it and they don’t want it. So, it just makes them rebel more. Then it became a state of confusion where they didn’t know what they wanted to do with me so they’d just send me out every week regurgitating the same crap and it was just horrible. After I had finally been there for a few months where I found my niche, when people started reacting to me in a positive way, I had to go and fulfill my obligations with Marvel.”

As he’s stated in previous interviews, Batista thinks the best scenario for him would be to only work live events, since that would give him a chance to wrestle and interact with fans without having to deal with TV writers.

TNA Reportedly In Talks For TV Tapings In New York City

3

TNA officials have been in talks with reps from the Manhattan Center about holding another round of Impact Wrestling tapings in New York City in 2016, according to a report at Pwinsider. The tapings would take place around February/March, despite the fact that TNA’s future on Destination America remains in question.

As the World Title Series continues to play out on TV each week, TNA’s next TV tapings are scheduled for India next month. After that, TNA will film 6 episodes of Impact during January’s annual Maximum Impact tour of the UK.

While TNA lining up numerous rounds of tapings looks to be an encouraging sign, TNA has the obligation to continue producing shows for their international TV deals and these not necessarily an indication that they will have a national clearance in the United States come 2016.

Details On WWE’s Big Plans For Tapout Partnership Next Year

4

Apparently there’s a reason why WWE was evasive when asked about their plans with the Tapout brand during the WWE’s third quarter earnings conference call for 2015. While WWE CFO George Barrios admitted they are very excited and have big plans for the Tapout brand, he wouldn’t give up the details.

PWInsider.com now reports that the details of these plans involve WWE helping Tapout become a fitness brand to compete with the likes of Under Armour in the years the come. They plan on refocusing the old MMA-themed brand to reach a wider audience. The partnership comes after a big planned investment from WWE into Tapout, giving WWE an equity stake in clothing brand.

With WWE’s partnership, there are plans to open Tapout Fitness Centers all over America. Some locations planned are Brooklyn, Las Vegas, Portland, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Houston among others. Part of the strategy here is that WWE will lend their talent to for personal appearances and public workouts at the Tapout Fitness Centers.

WWE is testing out the waters with a fitness class hosted by Ryback and Seth Rollins on 11/7 in Leeds, during their UK tour. The class will feature the WWE taletns leading a 55-minute workout, with a meet-and-greet opportunity. This is very likely a test run for what WWE will be doing at the Tapout Fitness Centers.

Stardust sent out a few interesting tweets late Sunday night teasing the return of Cody Rhodes.

After getting a bunch of responses, he teased that ‘a certain someone’ would have to defeat him in order for Cody to return:

Stardust is of course referring to actor Stephen Amell. After Amell and Neville defeated Stardust and King Barrett at SummerSlam, the Arrow star revealed that he was continuing to train in the ring just in case Stardust wanted another shot at him.

WWE.com ran an article with comments from Jerry Lawler regarding the head-on collision he suffered with his girlfriend Lauryn this past Saturday night.

Below are comments from Lawler regarding his physical condition and the condition of his girlfriend.

On his physical condition and the condition of his girlfriend Lauryn:

“I’m fine, but Lauryn is pretty banged up. We had taken care of the trick-or-treaters and went for pizza right near the house. We were coming home to catch the end of the University of Memphis game. I was sitting at a red light at a busy intersection not a minute from my house. I got the green arrow to make a left turn. I started making the turn and I saw the car coming, not slowing down at all. The driver ran a red light.”

On the specifics of his girlfriends injury:

“Lauryn was in the ER for four hours. Her face is really, really swollen on the left side. They also put her in a leg brace and knee immobilizer. I think she has a concussion because this morning when she got up, she fell down and saw stars and black spots.”
