Mick Foley Remembers The Late Dusty Rhodes On Facebook

4

Mick Foley regularly takes to his official Facebook page to discuss a variety of topics, usually involving the wrestling world and today he remembered the late Dusty Rhodes who passed away earlier this year.

Along with a photo of Dusty, Foley posted:

DREAM WEAVER

Recent events have reminded me that in addition to being one of the most charismatic and entertaining performers in pro-wrestling history. Dusty Rhodes was also one its most creative; breathing life into, and instilling confidence in so many characters who crossed his path. I should know. I was one of them. Without Dusty Rhodes, my own dream ends in 1991. Because of him, and the opportunity he provided me, I was able to firmly establish myself on the national scene in 1991, and create some memories along the way. I recently re-read my 1999 book for the first time in many years – looking for stories for my one-man-show that I may have forgotten along the way. I picked up a few of them, but what I took away mostly from that reading experience is how instrumental Dusty had been in my career, and how, in one specific case, with the most important moment of my career only hours away (an epic showdown with Vader) he taught me to relax and speak from the heart; to forget about structural and grammatical mistakes in favor of real emotion. Throughout his career, Dusty was occasionally knocked for his ego – with the idea being that he was preserving his career at the expense of others. In fact, the opposite may have been true. Characters he created, using the ideas that sprung from his from his heart, and interviews he structured, sometimes including the very words from his lips, provided the backbone to a new generation that eventually pushed him out of the performing limelight. In so many cases (including my own) those whose careers had benefited from his generosity of time and spirit downplayed the importance of those gits, and in doing so, temporarily took away from the magnitude of his immense legacy. In death, he took his rightful place at the very top of the mountain; that Mt Rushmore of wrestling royalty, carved into the collective consiousness of every wrestler whose life was richer, fuller, and more productive for having crossed his path. The Dream lives on – and always will

I love this photo of the Dream, because it shows off that light in his eyes when he was onto an idea – a light I was fortunate to see many times.

The Miz Discusses His Debut In The WWE, Setting Goals, And More

6

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz spoke with Vulture.com about his debut within the WWE and what his goals were coming into the company.

In particular while speaking about his debut, he discussed how the original plans were to feature him as the host of SmackDown. Some highlights from the interview are below.

Trying not to be the Ryan Seacrest of the WWE during his debut:

“When I first came to WWE, I was told I was going to be the host of Friday Night SmackDown, and if you wanna be a WWE superstar, the worst thing you can be told is they want you to be the Ryan Seacrest of the WWE. I said, ‘Ya know what, they’re gonna give me a microphone. If they give me a microphone, I can make an audience boo me or cheer me.’ That’s how I proved myself [as a WWE star].”

On making goals, sticking to them and not worrying what others say:

“If you succeed at a goal, make another one, and make it even bigger. My goal now is to win an Oscar. When I say that, people laugh at me. When I said I wanted to be a WWE superstar, they laughed at me. When I said I wanted to main-event WrestleMania, they laughed at me. So far I’ve been able to prove them wrong, and that fuels my fire. Now I need to find the tools to get me where I need to get next. I make goals that everyone else thinks are unattainable, but I know I can do it.”

Seth Rollins Comments On The Shield Possibly Reuniting One Day

14

WWE World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins recently spoke with Chad Dukes of CBS Radio Washington DC 106.7 The Fan and ChadDukesWrestling.com. Here are some highlights of what Rollins said about:

How Cross Fit Has Helped Him Stay In Shape:

“I mean it’s the one thing that I do really that nobody else does and I’m doing a lot of things in the ring that nobody else does, so for me I feel like those two things kind of go hand in hand. I couldn’t do traditional bodybuilding and keep this schedule, it just wouldn’t work for me, I don’t think it works really for our generation of guys. More and more you’re seeing guys transfer over into functional fitness as opposed to training for aesthetics. The side effect of training functionally with high intensity, which is what CrossFit is that you also happen to look pretty decent as well. For me it serves two purposes, I get the job done in the ring, I look the part, and I stay super healthy all the time.”

If He Sees The Shield Reuniting One Day:

“We get to fire up the band in other incarnations. We always laugh about it now when we do these tag matches and six mans and I’m on the other side of the ring and they’re like partnered up with Randy Orton or something like that. It’s just funny because you can put the components in all the different places but it’s still comes out gold every time. The two of those guys, myself, I feel like paved the way for a different kind of work ethic than what we had been seeing in WWE over the past five years, maybe before that. That’s something I know the three of us are real proud of and every time we go out there we’re going out there to have the best match and steal the show weather working against each other, with each other it doesn’t matter, and that’s just kind of the attitude we came in with and we stuck to our guns this entire time and it’s cool to be able to share that with two other guys. The time we had with The Shield, who knows if it will ever come back around but if it doesn’t no one will ever be able to take that run away from us either.”

Update On Lucha Underground’s Season 2, Budget Cuts, Fewer Episodes

4

The second season of Lucha Underground that premieres in early 2016 will be taped once again from The Temple in Boyle Heights, California. There had been some talk of filming from Texas or Mexico. Filming is expected to start back up in December, with pre-production (ie. scripting, promos, vignettes, etc.) already underway.

Season 2 was in jeopardy for so long due to the high costs associated with filming the show. Episodes for the coming season will be less than the $400,000 per episode from season 1, but the producers are doing everything they can to make sure the less-expensive production values are not noticeable. Season 2 will have fewer than the 39 episodes that comprised the first season.

Lucha Underground was able to get all the pieces in place for a second season, but company officials are still trying to work out additional TV deals that would increase their exposure in Mexico and the United States. The big target for them is Telavisa Channel 5, which would give them financial assistance for this season as well as greater exposure in Mexico than WWE, AAA or CMLL.

Cameron Gets Emotional While Discussing Her Lack Of Ring Time In Recent Months (Video)

32

While promoting her personal campaign to stop cyberbullying, Cameron became emotional on Periscope as she spoke about her lack of ring time in WWE in recent months. The 27-year-old has not competed inside a WWE ring since early August, with her last televised match taking place in April. She was also dropped from the main cast of Total Divas in April.

“Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you’re not pretty enough, smart enough or tough enough to do anything because (starts crying) . . . sorry,” Cameron said. “The sky is the limit, like just don’t let anyone ever tell you that. Eww, sorry guys, I’m being emotional and I look so ugly when I cry.”

She continued, “My journey has definitely been difficult and I can’t wait to open up with you guys and tell you my experiences and everything I’ve been through. I just want to be perfect for you guys. I just want to have that one more chance to get back in the ring and show you guys how much I really care (wipes away tears). Eww, take it away for a second you guys.”

After regaining her composure, Cameron says, “Eww, I’m not going to have the tears! I have thick skin, why am I crying right now?! It’s okay, I’m human . . . I get emotional. I love what I do, I love trying to be a positive role model and I love you guys.”

https://twitter.com/Goldust/status/647560202967982080

Jim Ross On WWE’s Medical Care, The Undertaker’s Retirement, And More

22

Former WWE commentator Jim Ross recently updated the Q&A section of his popular website JR’s BBQ and addressed a number of fresh topics.

The WWE Hall of Famer was asked by one user regarding WWE’s medical team and whether or not they provide support for their employees on an emotional level.

“WWE offers the best medical care for their performers in the world and I’d assume that would also include counseling if needed as well. No other company remotely comes close to caring or their talents as WWE does.”

Another user had a question regarding the future of The Undertaker and whether not his recent activity could mean that he’s hinting at retirement.

“I could see Taker working a part time schedule similar to Lesnar’s until his health won’t permit it but it seems as if the Deadman is in great shape at this time.”

The Q&A continued with JR being asked by another user about WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and his recent use of power moves.

“Rollins is using today’s hot moves or trends that many fans seem to like which will help him when he turns ‘face. How’s he’s booked is subjective to say the very least. What’s right and what’s wrong in the fictional world of pro wrestling is totally up to the viewer. Your opinion is just as valid as mine.”

Another user brought up Chris Jericho’s booking at WWE Night of Champions as the mystery partner to join Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to take on The Wyatt Family.

“I like Jericho’s booking and think that he can help make Reigns better. Sting did great especially at 56 years of age and I was proud of him.”

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker have all been confirmed for the show and many are expecting some sort of WrestleMania match to be teased.

As always there has been a lot of speculation regarding Stone Cold Steve Austin and whether or not he might compete at the event in Dallas, Texas but apparently that’s not going to happen.

SmackDown Viewing Figures Continue To Rise

7

This week’s episode of SmackDown (9/24) pulled in 2,183,000 viewers which is slightly up from last week’s episode (9/17) which managed to pull in 2,083,0000 viewers.

SmackDown’s viewing figures on SyFy have risen for a third week in a row after they dropped to  1,981,000 after the 3/9 episode according to PWInsider.

As with Monday Night RAW, the drop in numbers is in part thanks to football making a return to our screens however those numbers are slowly rising.

SmackDown this week featured Roman Reigns vs. Luke Harper, The New Day vs. Neville and The Lucha Dragons, Cesaro vs. Bo Dallas and Ryback and Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev and Kevin Owens.

The show was closed by Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins with Kane once again causing a distraction to Seth Rollins to give Ambrose the win.

WWE 2K16: New Gameplay Video Shows Managers Behaving Badly

12

In a new WWE 2K16 video released by the WWE 2K Development Team, Xavier Woods and Enzo Amore are shown outside the ring acting as managers.

Xavier Woods is in the corner of fellow New Day member Big E while Enzo Amore is in the corner of Big Cass and both are shown creating distractions to ensure the other wrestler doesn’t get the win.

At one point Xavier throws a steel chair into the ring, jumps up onto the apron and gets in the face of Big Cass while towards the end of the video Enzo pulls the referee from the ring during a pin attempt.

Fans can get their hands on  WWE 2K16 when it is released on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles on the 27th of October in  North America and on the 30th of October internationally.

Judge Denies Media Request To Release Hulk Hogan FBI File

18

Yesterday, we told you about a motion filed by the The Associated Press and other news organizations in Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker. Gawker had successfully sued the FBI to get them to release the records of their investigation, which looked into an attempt to extort Hogan using the videos of him having sex with Heather Clem. However, the judge in Hogan’s suit against Gawker, the Honorable Pamela Campbell, immediately sealed the records. Being that this is highly unusual and the federal court had already ruled that the file was public record, the AP and others were trying to get Judge Campbell to unseal it.

Well, Judge Campbell made up her mind pretty quickly. The Associated Press is reporting that the judge denied the motion just a day after it was filed. As of right now, those are the only details we really have, but if we get a copy of the order, we’ll keep you updated. As it stands right now, only Gawker’s lawyers are allowed access to the FBI records, with even Gawker founder Nick Denton locked out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTLztVGd414

Hogan’s side had demanded an investigation when the transcript of his racist rant on one of the videos was leaked to The National Enquirer and Radar Online.  Being that it was on one of the videos in question and the person of interest in the investigation (Los Angeles lawyer Keith Davidson) had also prepared transcripts, Hogan thinks Gawker’s lawyers leaked it. Gawker’s side insists that the transcripts had been floating around Tampa for years and didn’t have to come from them. The existence of the racist comments (but not the actual quotes) were first reported back in 2012.

Sting Full Of Praise For Seth Rollins, NXT Panel From SummerSlam Weekend To Air

57

As previously noted WWE.com caught up with Sting following his match with Seth Rollins at WWE Night of Champions which left him injured and the WWE Universe concerned for his future.

Among a variety of topics including his injury, what happened after the match and if he’ll wrestle again, Sting was also full of praise for his opponent that night Seth Rollins.

What he has to say about competing against Seth Rollins:

“The biggest pleasure. I’m honored. After 30 years and working with some of the best and some of the greatest, [Rollins] is, I’m telling you, he’s got to be the best I’ve ever worked with. I mean, this guy has it. And I think he’s just scratching the surface on what he will do. I’ve never seen somebody as talented. He’s working two [matches] on Raw, two [matches] on the pay-per-view, he’s involved in every other segment and it’s physical. He’s got guys coming from every angle. There’s a lot on his plate. He’s carrying a lot, and he’s handling it. He’s proven he can do it. I’m just glad I had a chance to work with him. He’s the kind of guy who could be in there with a broomstick and make something very interesting happen, a match that people would love somehow.”

What they had to say to each other once the match was over:

Really, I can’t say enough. He poked his head in the ambulance and said, “Man, I’m so sorry. I don’t know what happened.” I said, “Seth, don’t worry about it. It’s not your fault.” And he, for 15 minutes, he said, “I just wanted to tell you what an honor it was, what a pleasure. I can’t believe I had a chance to get in the ring with you and work with you. I was you for Halloween when I was a kid.” He was on and on about it, but man, this young guy, he doesn’t have any idea how much I appreciate being able to work with him.

Cody & Dustin Rhodes To Present Trophy To Dusty Tag Tournament Winners

9

Cody Rhodes and his brother Dustin (Goldust) will be appearing at next month’s NXT Takeover: Respect event to present the championship trophy to the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. It will be Cody’s first WWE appearance (as himself) in nearly a year and a half. He told Triblive.com this week:

“It’s great though that you ask, because the Dusty Rhodes tag tournament taking place in NXT is something he would really be proud of because of all the platforms it gives to talent, including independent talent that came in for a shot to win the Dusty Rhodes tag tournament. I will actually be there myself, (as) me — for the first time a while on WWE programming — Cody Rhodes and my brother will be there to present the trophy, which I’m looking forward to seeing.”

The semi-finals and finals of the tournament will be held at Takeover: Respect on Wednesday, October 7th from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.

Cody also spoke about his decision to not return as Cody Rhodes after the passing of his father, the late, great “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. He explains why he think it would have been tacky – and what Dusty told him about how he wanted to be remembered after he was gone.

“It would have been tacky — would have been tacky, and it wouldn’t have been genuine. Many years ago, I used to watch RAW with my dad, and we watched Nitro, and we watched the pay-per-views. Many years ago, there was a wrestler who passed away, and his name was used pretty regularly after that on programming. People were using it to try draw the adulation of fans. Everyone was saying, “Oh, well such and such who passed away would have loved this.” And (my father) told me, and this is something very few people know, “When I go don’t ever let anybody say that about me. I left my body of work on the table already and it doesn’t need to be expanded.” And I never forgot that. So there was never any question on who was coming back.”

Photo: Finn Balor Raises The Roof During NXT Live Event, Literally

22

https://twitter.com/gravenbabies/status/647270387777208320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

NXT Champion Finn Balor teamed up with Samoa Joe at last night’s NXT Live Event in Lakeland, Florida (24th September) to take on the team of Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder.

Towards the end of the match with Dawson and Wilder on top of each other Balor took the opportunity to plant them with the Coup De Grace for the win, taking out a ceiling tile in the process.

A similar incident occurred during NXT’s Live Event last month but as shown in the photos, the venue does have a low ceiling so most top rope moves are likely to be a risk.

After the match his partner Samoa Joe checked him out for any potential injuries and Balor later tweeted that “Ratings are through the roof”:

Gunner Talks About His TNA Run, Wanting To Work For WWE

1

Former TNA Gunner recently spoke to PWMania.com about his time in TNA and his lifelong goal of working for WWE. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His Time in TNA, His Departure & What’s Next:

“I really enjoyed working for the company. I’ve been with them since 09’, Terry Taylor helped me get my foot in the door with me and Murphy and working the security deal. I will definitely miss the guys that I worked with. I think it goes the same way and that they will miss me. I talked with a handful of them. I really think it was best. After six years, there were times where I felt I was underutilized. Even though I worked with James Storm and I did the main event with Magnus, even after the Sam Shaw stuff I was put on the backburner for some odd reason and didn’t do anything wrong. After six years, I was to the point where I was stressed out a lot. I’m 33 you know and I don’t want my youth soaked up. I feel like I have something more to offer to somebody whether Impact calls me back in a couple months or WWE or Ring of Honor whoever it is, I know that me as a person I have a lot to offer. I think it was what was best for business.

“There is no bad blood. It was a mutual agreement and I thank them for the opportunities of having me in the Impact ring. But I have bigger and better goals and I think that since I was 5 I wanted that Wrestlemania moment. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to compete in the WWE ring and I’m not getting any younger. It’s still in the back of my mind, hey, I want to compete in a WWE ring or NXT has an amazing product right now down there. So I feel like I could wrestle on Impact and I’m looking forward to the future.”

His future and WWE:

“I personally hope to one day in the future compete in the WWE. I mean like I said a minute ago, that is my ultimate goal since I was 5. I really feel like even if I go and another huge goal of mine is acting. I’ve done two movies this year and I do numerous amounts of auditions every week but I think my heart lies and still does with having a WWE match and having that Wrestlemania moment. After that I can probably retire and hopefully build The Rock’s status and act as much as I can because I love acting. The beating on my body and wanting to have kids one day and enjoy them. If I’m 65 and I never even attempt to try WWE then there will be a missing and void there. I’m in Kingsport, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and right outside of Atlanta. So anybody that follows me, I post independent shows. I’m booked up all the way to December from Virginia to North Carolina to South Carolina and I’m working on a UK tour, going to Korea for some Military appearances. I stay busy, man.”

Finn Balor Hypes A Potential NXT Show During WrestleMania Weekend

4

NXT Champion Finn Balor recently spoke to Title Match Wrestling about the NXT brand’s success and whether we’ll see an NXT live event during WrestleMania 32 weekend.

Balor said it’s hard to believe how far NXT has come in the past year. “For a lot of the boys at NXT, we feel like we’ve captured lightning in a bottle. A year ago we were wrestling in front of 30-40 people in Florida. Now we’re in Texas, and we’re blowing the roof off.”

After selling out the Barclays Center last month for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, NXT is keeping the momentum going and has already sold out the SSE Arena for December’s NXT Takeover: London event. Balor is hoping they can keep the momentum going with another NXT special event from the Dallas area next year for WrestleMania 32 weekend.

“A lot of us believe we’re completely separate from what they’re doing on the main roster, and some of us don’t necessarily want to be on WrestleMania. We’re going to have our own card, hopefully, the night before. We’ll sell out a building, and saying to the boys follow that.”

The Rock Talks About The First Time He Met Vince McMahon

16

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted the following on Instagram about the first time he met Vince McMahon back when he was only 11 years old.

My nightmare aka my very first TV “appearance” when I was 11yrs old.

At a WWE TV taping in Allentown, PA. Since my dad was always on the road wrestling, any father/son time we got in was great, so I was super pumped to travel with him.

It was backstage that I’d meet a man who years later we’d enjoy tremendous success together, and he’d become one of my strongest mentors in business – Vince McMahon. I’ll never forget he shook my hand, looked down at me and said “We gotta get you on camera tonight young man!”. I thought, “WHOA I’m gonna be on TV… can’t wait to tell my friends… AWESOME!”. So I’m sitting there in the crowd, the camera man comes over and tells me he’s getting ready to shoot so be ready. It was in that defining moment that I just realized something awful… I was just getting over a bad case of Chicken Pox (you can clearly see a few “post pox” on my face), and I thought “Holy sh*t this is terrible! The world will see me for the first time, and I look like someone set fire to my face and stomped it out with cleats”. Looking back at this gem of a picture, there’s two things I’ve learned: Things are never as bad as they seem (especially at 11yrs old) and instead of worrying about my Chicken Pox I should’ve been concerned with the world questioning whether I was a boy or a girl. Which, for the record happened all the time to me when I was a kid.

She also had a suspended license and was cited with careless driving. She is scheduled to see Judge Joseph J. Matika today and a trial is set to begin on 12/7.

In addition, she has another court date scheduled for 10/7 for DUI arrests that took place on 6/1 and 6/20. The charges for the June arrests include careless driving, failure to stay in her lane during traffic, driving without a license and DUI.

Paige Talks About Getting Married, Being A Reality TV Star

15

Paige spoke with E! News this week to promote Tuesday’s season finale of Total Divas. Here are the highlights of what she said about:

Her upcoming wedding:

“We haven’t gotten very far yet. We haven’t started planning anything because I think I could be engaged for five years. I don’t want to rush into stuff. But I’ll keep you posted as soon as I know what’s going on.”

Putting her life on display for the cameras:

“I was definitely worried at first and very skeptical. I wasn’t ready for it. But the crew is absolutely amazing. We’re like a big family. They make it so easy and you don’t even realize they’re there half of the time. They’re so respectful. It’s different because obviously I don’t like my personal life being out there, but this is helping people as well.”

Mick Foley says if he could change anything about WWE, he would “Push Cesaro.” The hardcore legend posted a message on Facebook voicing his strong support for Cesaro and questioning the baffling booking of his character. Foley wrote:

TWO WORDS: PUSH CESARO

Last night, I was asked a simple question during the Q&A part of my show in Philadelphia: “if you were in charge of WWE, what one change would you make?” I gave a simple answer. Push Cesaro. I’m not trying to create controversy or be a pain in WWE’s neck – but the recent treatment of this guy on TV is downright baffling to me. Besides, as long as I said it, and it will be reported on (which I’m pretty sure it will be) you might as well read it here first. I know Steve Austin has been an enthusiastic Cesaro supporter. Maybe he needs a little bit of help. Maybe my opinion will mean something. Maybe yours will too. Tell me about your favorite Cesaro – WWE match. Give this post a like and a comment..maybe even share it – and we’ll see if a few thousand comments on the Foley Facebook page (which I KNOW the WWE front-office reads) might make a difference.
