Update On King Barrett’s WWE Status, Bubba Ray Responds To Big E & More

19

– Earlier this week, King Barrett changed his Twitter name to his birth name Stu Bennett, which had many WWE fans questioning if he was leaving the company. There’s really nothing to the story. Barrett was written of TV on RAW after an attack by Stardust and flew to the UK to work on the upcoming WWE Studios action-thriller Eliminators.

– Following the return of the Dudley Boyz on Monday’s RAW, Big E tweeted about getting beat up by a bunch of “old dudes.” Bubba Ray Dudley has since responded to Big E, telling him that he could be the next member of New Day to be put through a table:

Wyatt Family Adding Another New Member? Rey Mysterio In Touch With WWE & More

54

– In recent weeks there have been ‘casual talks’ between Rey Mysterio and WWE. The former WWE World Heavyweight champion has been working for Mexico’s AAA promotion and was expected to sign a deal with Lucha Underground, but with Lucha Underground’s second season still up in the air, there appears to be renewed interest regarding an eventual return.

– As previously reported, WWN Live’s Gabe Sapolsky and Sal Hamaoui attended NXT Takeover: Brooklyn this past week as guests of WWE. While no deal has been struck between the two sides regarding a working relationship, WWE is said to be interested in continuing the talks.

– Following the debut of the newest Wyatt Family member on Monday’s RAW, WWE officials have had discussions about introducing a female wrestler to portray the role of Sister Abigail.

Former TNA Knockout Rumored To Be Headed To WWE

8

Former TNA Knockout Sarita (Sarah Stock) announced today that she’s leaving Mexico’s CMLL promotion and will be wrestling her final date for them at their September 18th Anniversary event.

She noted that she’s leaving to explore other opportunities and there’s speculation that she could be headed to WWE. She’s worked as a guest coach at the WWE Performance Center a several times over the past year.

Back in June, she was there teaching the NXT Divas how to wrestle the lucha libre style.

Report: Jushin Liger To Work More Dates For WWE

8

Japanese wrestling legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger is expected to work more dates for WWE after making his debut for the company at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn this past weekend. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, an unnamed wrestling promoter attempted to book Liger for a few upcoming shows in the United States but was told WWE has already booked him for those dates.

On this week’s episode of NXT, Tyler Breeze said that he’s not done with Liger, another indication that we’ll be seeing him back in NXT soon.

It’s possible that Liger will be working for WWE & NXT with a deal similar to Samoa Joe’s, where he’s still able to wrestle for other promotions (mainly New Japan Pro Wrestling).

Liger working for WWE while under contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling is an unprecedented move for WWE and a sign that the company is changing its mentality of working with competing promotions. Industry insiders have observed that NJPW working with WWE in this capacity is not a good sign for Ring of Honor, which has been exchanging talent with New Japan over the past several years.

Charlotte, Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch Get Raises, Update On NXT Pay

33

– Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch all received either amended contracts with an increase in pay or new main roster WWE deals the day after all three made their debuts on RAW for the first time.

– Speaking of compensation practices in WWE, a perk that NXT talents get when they work WWE live events is that the company pays for their road expenses, in addition to paying them like a prelim WWE talent. For main roster talents, they have to cover their own road expenses. Also, right now, if you are an NXT star and you are called up to the main roster, WWE pays for your road expenses for the first 90 days after you make the full-time transition.

Dolph Ziggler Reveals Why He Chose To Stay With WWE

29

Dolph Ziggler recently spoke with Scott Fishman of The Miami Herald to promote WWE 2K16, which you can pre-order now from Amazon.com and get The Terminator as a playable character. Here are some highlights of what Ziggler said about:

Why he chose to stay with WWE:

“My contract was coming up, and I was weighing a bunch of different option. I had a lot of outside offers to do some other things. Instead I decided to settle on doing the thing I love the most and working for WWE. WWE has given me an out where any days off that I have they allow me to work on outside projects. So it’s a win-win for everybody. I don’t miss any work. I get to keep doing what I love. Just like when it’s SummerSlam week, but I’m going to a comedy club to perform and the next day going to a theater to sneak in a couple of minutes because I don’t sleep and want to be the best performer I can.”

WWE 2K16:

“They make it so much more realistic, and I don’t know how. They literally do like a hundred body scans of us. It blows my mind when I see myself. Some years I see myself with better abs, and it’s not because of me. It’s in the game. So that tells me to go do some cardio to make sure I’m doing this right. It’s mind-blowing when you look at this game and see how realistic it is.”

Ziggler also discussed NXT “exploding” as a brand, why he thinks Tyler Breeze has major potential in WWE and more.

Drew Galloway Talks Ambitions In TNA, Wanting To Work With Kurt Angle & More

3

Drew Galloway recently spoke with Tom Feaheny about his ambitions in TNA, wanting to work with Kurt Angle and the British wrestling scene. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On his ambitions in Impact Wrestling: “I’m not here to make up the numbers, I’m here to eat them up, being the number one, I’m very much looking at getting the title and elevating more than it already is, like ICW, Evolve, I have something like seven world titles at the minute and when I get the title I want to represent the company and do my best with the belt.”

On who he would like to wrestle next: “Kurt Angle is top of the list, he is someone I looked up too, he’s done so much in the ring, then there is Bram he is from England, I’m Scotland we can have a battle a war in America and EC3 is such a good bad guy and a perfect opponent for myself.”

On wrestling in Britain: “It’s on fire, the second documentary I stared in in Insane Championship Wrestling did so well, places like ICW and PCW (Preston Championship Wrestling) have got real popularity, the scene is on fire here, in ICW the fans are a part of the roster, there is always something that happens that you can remember in each show.”

On his advice to people who want to get into the industry: “I’d say it is practice, practice, practice, and I wouldn’t say you have to be really young to start because people like DDP (Diamond Dallas Page) was in his mid 30’s when he really broke out on the roster and he won World titles.”

Mick Foley Calls Out Amanda For “Slut-Shaming” Sara Lee On Tough Enough

21

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley took to social media and lashed out at Amanda for what he called “slut-shaming” Sara Lee on the finale episode of WWE Tough Enough on Tuesday evening.

Below is what “The Hardcore Legend” had to say:

THE NIGHT MICK GOT MAD

Yes, I kind of lost it for a few minutes while watching the season finale of WWE Tough Enough. Although I hadn’t commented publicly on the show since the ouster of Patrick Clark seven weeks ago, I’d been watching with my younger kids (who claim it’s “best show ever, in the history of TV) and have actually enjoyed the shows the past few weeks – when the emphasis was put on wrestling, instead of random “challenges”. I hadn’t planned on commenting on the show, voting, or telling anyone who to vote for.

Then I heard it – Amanda publicly “exposing” rumors of Sara Lee’s sex life, in an an attempt to sway voters against her. My immediate thought: she just slut-shamed Sara Lee on national television” – and it struck me as a hateful, petty, vindictive thing to do. Alas, for Amanda, the tactic seemed to backfire, and the bikini model from Yorktown Heights lost in a nearly 2-1 landslide, despite having advantages in almost every category that would seem to matter – beauty, body, athleticism, a save from The Miz, and her self-professed “it” factor.

So I broke my silence, sent out a tweet about how I felt about the situation, and could not have been happier with the outcome of the show. Someone pointed out to me that, in fairness to Amanda, that “apparently there was evidence, Mick”. To which I replied “I don’t give a crap if there was “evidence” – it was mean-girl bullying, and the antithesis of showing tolerance and respect.”

There’s a chance – probably a good chance – that WWE will hire Amanda to a developmental contract. If they do, I suggest they give her a little talk about sexual bullying, or “slut-shaming” – described by the Urban Dictionary as “an unfortunate phenomenon in which people degrade or mock a woman because she enjoys having sex, has sex a lot, or may even just be rumored to participate in sexual activity.” I wish one of the judges, coaches or other participants would have publicly acknowledged Amanda’s accusation. They didn’t. So I have.

What’s the big deal? Simple. Slut-shaming affects lives. It destroys lives. Sometimes, when the burden of public shaming becomes too much to bear, it can even end them.

I’ve put my time and money behind what I believe, which is the reason I’m proud to be part of the upcoming “UnSlut: A Documentary Film”. Please watch and share the trailer. You might just make the world a little better place for all mankind. Just turn down the volume if you’re watching at work….that “S” word come flying out at you a few times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXvh9c79gqg

Darren Young Responds To Twitter Backlash, AJ Lee’s Next Project Revealed & More

60

– Darren Young has responded to negative backlash he got after publicizing ‘advances’ from a Total Divas camera man. He tweeted:

“It’s a shame that some people can’t be happy for others. Relationships are hard to maintain so when you see someone committed to their partner, why must you try and destroy something that he worked so hard for? Respect is mutual. You need to give it in order to receive it. #Blockthehate #Spreadtheword #Passalong”

– After making a cameo in the Madden NFL trailer earlier this week, former WWE Diva AJ Lee mentioned on Twitter that she’s teaming up with the PAWS Chicago organization and designer Beautiful Disaster to help shelter animals.

– Jim Ross tweeted the following photo with his former broadcast partner, Jerry “The King” Lawler while the two of them were doing voice work for WWE 2K16’s 2K Showcase mode:

Jim Ross Blog: Sting/Rollins Title Match, Dudley Boyz’ Return, New Wyatt Family

1

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated his official blog with his thoughts on RAW, the news coming out of the show and a NXT Takeover: Brooklyn match that he finally got to see. Below are some of the highlights.

On Sting vs. Seth Rollins at WWE Night Of Champions: “Strategic booking for the Sting vs. Seth Rollins main event at WWE Night of Champions in Houston on Sunday September 20 in the Toyota Center. Sting had some great dys in Houston back in the mid 80’s with Watts and Boesch so he’s no stranger to the marketplace plus he lives in Texas these days. I don’t see this as a long term scenario but the build will be fine and the match is fresh and provides both men something new to sink their teeth into. The Sting reveal was well executed and created a buzz as the show went off the air. Sting will likely surprise all with his match against the talented Rollins.”

On The Dudley Boyz being back in WWE: “Great seeing those “Damn Dudley’s” back on WWE TV. Good ‘get’ by WWE as Bubba and Devon can mentor the young tag teams and provide some marketable name identity for live events. Young talents cannot improve with out working with talents of a higher skill set. The Dudley’s have that in spades.”

On the new Wyatt Family: “Nice debut for the newest member of the Wyatt Family, Braun Stowman, and the odds game might actually help Bray Wyatt in becoming a more main stream heel as he’s close to being a character baby face in my eyes. Stowman’s second appearance on RAW will be important on how hes going to be perceived. This green talent needs to be handled/booked carefully until he gets his main roster, sea legs under him. How this big, impressive looking, young talent SELLS is going to be crucial in his development.”

On Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens from NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn: “Thought that Finn Balor and Kevin Owens had a terrific match on Saturday night that I got to finally see. Really strong story telling, selling and the will to win. In that match, winning seemed to be paramount and losing not an option either talent wanted to consider. On many TV bouts it doesn’t feel that way.”

Samuel Shaw Talks About Gut Check Challenge/Tough Enough, Training In OVW

0

Former TNA performer Samuel Shaw recently spoke with The News Hub’s Marc Madison about the old TNA Gut Check Challenges, WWE Tough Enough and his training in Ohio Valley Wrestling. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On the pros of the Gut Check Challenge/Tough Enough: “I really feel like in the long run, I feel like the Gut Check challenge and Tough Enough are really good ways to take a talent that might have not had an opportunity otherwise. Especially with Gut Check, I felt like they were bringing in some talent that somebody might have seen somewhere and said, ‘hey, let’s give this guy an opportunity’ and I don’t know if it’s always for the right reasons. For me, it’s just my personal opinion but I felt like I was brought in to the Gut Check because they were going to say no. I feel like they had already said yes to a number of talent for whatever reasons whether they performed well or not. Alex Silva was going to be a no but then Ric Flair changed his mind on the spot. I think there were 3 yes’ and they were looking for a no because they were trying to make this like an American Idol thing. We need some drama, we need some guys to not pass the test and make this good TV.

I think the decision was already made, like I said just my opinion. I feel like I performed well and I had showed a lot of heart and passion and I really wanted it and I was told yes and even Eric Bischoff came up to me afterwards and he mentioned to me, ‘I pretty much knew it was going to be a no but then you went out there and did really well. How can we say no to that’? Do I think I would have gotten those opportunities in TNA to get a contract there? Yes. But, everything in this business is right place, right time. I was given that opportunity and I was always told to go out there and shine. With whatever opportunity they give you. It was crazy because there were some really bad Gut Check performances and I almost don’t want to name names but I remember one particular guy that Gunner had to wrestle and honestly it made for really good TV. You saw this talent given an opportunity to come and he basically wasn’t ready for that environment. It just showed up in his work and he had blown up and Gunner was just like ‘oh, man’. And you can tell it was just bad. For the casual fan and the diehard fan you could see how real this could actually get, really quickly.’

On training under Rip Rogers in OVW: “I remember the first day sort of showing up a tad bit late to my first OVW training camp session with Rip Rogers. I have no idea what to expect. Al Snow told me ‘oh, you’re going to love training with Rip Rogers’, you’re going to learn a lot. I show up and of course he’s already got people in the ring doing stuff. There was about 20 people there and I walked up and I put out my hand and I try to introduce myself to Rip Rogers and he just sort of looks at me and says, “Who the f*** are you” and I am like I’m Samuel Shaw and he responds, “Okay, why the f*** should I care? What the f*** do you want?” I’m oh my god is this really how this is going to go? I’ve heard stories about this guy but okay and he tells me to get in line and let’s see how you can bump and by the end of it I think he sort of like me because I showed him some sort of athletic ability and not just a jabroni that is just coming in and wasn’t some bodybuilder muscle look to him and he wasn’t going to really do anything special. But at the end of it he was really receptive to me and I enjoyed training with Rip Rogers. It was very short.

The developmental program for TNA at OVW was very short lived and changes were always happening. There was no real structure I guess you could say. It was sort of like here we have training a couple of days a week and you have 4 or 5 shows a week which is tremendous because you are getting into that mode of working each and every day and I think that it was a tremendous learning experience. I went into the whole OVW experience thinking that I was already trained really well coming from Curtis Hughes and then coming from Team 3D academy for four years. Getting signed with TNA and then I thought I had to go back and train some more? Destroy my body and this and that. I was there for practically a year and I feel like I learned a tremendous amount in that time and I look back on it as a very fond memory for me.”

Jerry Lawler Talks About Vince McMahon Being Jealous Of Him

5

WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler recently appeared as a guest on The Kevin Gill Show to talk about, among other things, his feelings that Vince McMahon is jealous of him.

Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On Vince McMahon being jealous of him: “Years later I was on the plane with Vince, sitting in his private jet. He leaned over and he said “I’ve never told you or anybody this, but I was so freaking jealous when you were on the David Letterman show with Andy Kaufman in New York, knowing that we could have had Andy do all that stuff in our company.” He did give me credit. He said, “not that we have done it anywhere near as good as you guys did, because it was fantastic.. But just knowing Andy came to my dad first and we turned him down.”

On Andy Kaufman’s influence: “If you remember, right after that, they did this thing with Cyndi Lauper and Captain Lou Albano, Mr T… So Andy Kaufman was really the forerunner of all the Hollywood involvement in the WWE, that’s lead to… I mean look at what they are doing today!”

On becoming a wrestler: “It’s funny because, when I was going to the matches as fan, never once did I think about actually trying to do it. I just thought that’s out of the question. But once I was around Jackie Fargo, and that sort of thing I thought, if I just could try this one time. So I started hounding him. Come one, let me just try it once. He said No Kid, you are too good of an artist. He said stick with art you will make a fortune doing that. I said, If i could just have one match, and try it one time I promise I will go back to being an artist, and I will ever ask you again. Of course, that was like 43 years ago and I am still doing the wrestling.”

On his art: “I’ve been doing art a lot longer than I’ve been wrestling. I started drawing Superman and Batman as far back as I can remember, like 5 years old, and did it all through school…drawing when I should have probably been doing schoolwork, instead I was always drawing!”
