Vince Promo After RAW, Fandango Goes Solo, Ziggler On RAW Fallout

17

– After last night’s WWE RAW from London went off the air, the WWE Network opened from the O2 Arena with the fallout from the Rollins & Orton main event segment. The announcers then plugged the WWE Network sneak peek of the new Ultimate Warrior DVD and cut to a promo from Vince McMahon, who talked about Warrior’s impact on people and introduced the Warrior DVD preview.

– Last night on RAW, we saw Fandango dump Rosa Mendes and revert back to his ChaChaLaLa theme music. Fandango is scheduled for a babyface push.

– Backstage at RAW, Dolph Ziggler spoke to Renee Young about his ongoing issues with Sheamus:

Seth Rollins Interview: NXT Stars He Wants to Work With, Jon Stewart Feud & More

6

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins recently spoke with The Independent in the UK to promote WWE’s ongoing European tour. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His Match Against John Cena & Brock Lesnar At Royal Rumble:

“The match itself was something that I knew going into was going to be a big opportunity for me, as I was the ring with two legends of our time in John Cena and Brock Lesnar. Being pretty much the underdog in that situation I knew I had to step up my game and do my best to steal a little bit of their thunder.

“I was very pleased with the outcome and even though I didn’t walk out the winner, it was still a performance that catapulted me to the next level.”

Feuding With Jon Stewart:

“It all kinda came out of nowhere,” Rollins reminisces. “I just said one little line in jest on Raw and one thing led to another. Then I’m on The Daily Show hanging out with Olivia Wilde so it was definitely a cool experience, and something I never considered that I’d do growing up watching Craig Kilborn and Jon Stewart on that show.

“Jon was a huge fan, totally professional all the way and an awesome dude. He’s a hell of a promo too so everything about that was 100% awesome. I was really thrilled to work with him and hopefully we can do something again in the future.”

The NXT Star He’d Like To Work With:

“Probably Sami Zayn. He’s a guy who is one of the most resilient performers that we’ve ever seen, and he’s got an incredible connection with the audience. No offense to Finn Balor but he doesn’t need a crazy entrance and body paint, he doesn’t have all the wild athleticism that Neville has, he doesn’t necessarily have the wits about him that a Kevin Owens does, or the fanfare of Hideo Itami, but he has that little intangible that sets him apart from everybody else.”

WWE RAW Pros & Cons (4/13/15): Orton & Rollins Prepare To Get Extreme

32

The WWE took Raw across the pond this week, with Randy Orton and Seth Rollins once again locking horns as they head into their main event contest at Extreme Rules, Roman Reigns finally discussing his loss at WrestleMania, and John Cena continuing his weekly open challenges. Here are the pros and cons from this week’s episode.

Pros

The crowd really gave it to John Cena to open the show, but he eventually got them on his side by utilizing cheap pops (i.e., saying London should get WrestleMania). The Champ once again issued an open challenge, with England’s own Bad News Barrett answering the call this time around. This was a hard-hitting match with both guys utilizing brute force over traditional wrestling moves for the most part. They made Barrett look strong in front of his home-country crowd, as he dominated the action early on and dropped a big elbow from the apron to the floor. Cena turned things around by utilizing a few moves fans don’t see from him often, such as a crossbody from the top rope and even a simple dropkick. Both guys were booked real strong, with Barrett kicking out of an AA and Cena kicking out after being hit by a huge Bull Hammer. Barrett wanted a second Bull Hammer, but Cena countered with a sloppy springboard stunner and an AA for the win.

Great way to start the show, especially after Lana made her return to television to distract Cena while Rusev pounced before announcing that their match at Extreme Rules will be a “Russian Chain Match” (not exactly sure how Russia and chains go together, but okay).

Dolph Ziggler vs. Neville was Match of the Night. Ziggler issued an open challenge before being answered by the upstart former NXT Champion. Neville was flying around the ring early before hitting a standing moonsault on Ziggler before the Show Off hit a DDT that Neville sold like no other. Neville has the type of moveset that could make him a star (especially when he’s busting out moves like a 540 splash after scaling the barricade. Even though Ziggler won with the Zig Zag, Neville looked strong in defeat. I like they way they’ve book Neville so far, and he’s certainly a welcome addition to the main roster. Sheamus attacked both guys after the match as he continues to solidify himself as a heel.

Fans were treated to a match-up between two of the best workers in the company when Randy Orton squared off with Cesaro. The two locked up early before Tyson Kidd interfered and caused Cesaro to lose by disqualification. Kane made an appearance and announced that the match would continue, restarting the contest as a handicap match. The Tag Champs worked over The Viper before the break, and were still in control when it returned. Orton took a lot of damage, including a neckbreaker from Kidd, a European uppercut from Cesaro, and a few kicks to the face. He’d eventually pick up the win, however, after hitting Kidd with an RKO.

The Team Hell No reunion backstage was entertaining and humorous.

Seth Rollins tried to get Kane to lay down for him before he refused and snapped. He chokeslammed Rollins straight to Hell before allowing Rollins to pick up the victory, setting up a confrontation to determine the stipulations for the Extreme Rules main event at the end of the show.

Roman Reigns finally addressed the fans after his loss at WrestleMania. He was brutally honest went he said, “I went to Suplex City.” It wasn’t his best promo (not that there’s an extensive archive of those or anything), but it definitely wasn’t his worst either. He called Big Show Seth’s “giant bitch” before being confronted and called a “bum” (what a devastating burn). This was one of those classic unintentionally humorous WWE segments, with both guys delivering cheesy promos that were littered with corny insults. Big Show attacked Reigns as he was leaving the ring and chokeslammed him onto the roof of the car that was parked at the top of the ramp, likely setting up a match between the two at Extreme Rules.

Finally, the closing segment involving Seth Rollins and Randy Orton was entertaining. Each superstar was permitted to choose a stipulation for the main event at Extreme Rules. Orton was well spoken during his portion of the segment, and Rollins played the slimy, cowardly heel to perfection as always. In the end, Rollins chose to bar the RKO from the main event, while Orton decided to make it a steel cage match to keep The Authority from helping Seth Rollins (because that has worked flawlessly in the past). The show ended with Orton hitting an RKO on one half of J&J while the WWE Champion retreated.

Jeremy Borash Talks TNA Ratings, Live Events Returning, Rise Of EC3 & More

5

TNA performer Jeremy Borash recently spoke with The Pain Clinic about a number of TNA-related topics. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On TNA’s ratings on Destination America: “Can you imagine that? A network actually putting out a press release, giving us credit for the credit we deserve? That’s a new one for us! Destination America has been great. When we made the move from Spike to Destination America, being part of a growing brand in the long term and being that network’s flagship show versus being kind of buried in the midst of a whole lot of other stuff, is really what we were looking for. So if you haven’t seen Destination America yet, you gotta get it. Great channel, a lot of great programming, and we are their flagship so you know it’s gotta be good. If you haven’t seen Impact, what I like about it is every week you see such a better show than what’s out there right now from anywhere else. Right now I think everything is kind of clicking. Those eyeballs are coming. We need more, obviously, so spread the word that Impact is kicking some serious tail on Destination America. It’s a great show.”

On additional TNA programming on Destination America: “We’ve got such a good roster right now. That’s the good thing about Destination America, there’s all kinds of programming on right now. Some things we’re going to develop for the future are going to be pretty exciting. Between Greatest Matches, between Unlocked, between Impact….I’ve got Impact on the season pass and I’m up watching TV at 2 a.m. and it notifies me that Impact is about to come on. I look and it’s a big marathon going all day! It’s very cool that we get so much presence on the network, no matter what time of the day it is.”

On if TNA will resume live events this year: “Yes, we are. I don’t think anything has been announced yet. We are going to some domestic places in North America, and some far region places as well. In fact, a place I’ve never been to before. We’ve been to a lot of places, but this will be a first for this country. I can’t say yet, we’ll be announcing it soon. There are some rumors out there I cannot confirm or deny, but, you know, where there’s smoke, there’s fire so I’ll say that much. It’s been way too long. Our live events, let’s not forget, have been stellar over the years. We always get great reviews for the experience and we do things a little differently, so we can’t wait to get that back on the road.”

On The Wolves and Eddie Edwards’ injury: “It was just a bummer, because they’re at the top of their game and they’re probably doing the best work of their careers. Eddie has an unfortunate foot break so he’s going to be on the shelf for a little bit, but I’ll tell you what, I’ve talked to him and heard from him. He will come back from this really fast. Not faster than he should, but the time he spends in physical therapy, he says he’s itching to come back real soon. The Wolves are two good dudes. I’m happy to see the success they’ve had on Impact, and hopefully they’ll get back on track as Eddie’s foot heals. At the same time I don’t mind Davey Richards singles matches in the meantime. We saw that with DJ Z, he’s just incredible. I want to see Davey in there with Kurt Angle; that would be amazing.”

On the rise of Ethan Carter III: “I just can’t believe that somebody in another company did not see all the potential that this kid has. He’s really remarkable. He’s one of those guys, and I’ve come across a few of them in my day, you just know someday they’re going to be a top guy, and he carries himself like that. There’s guys that get there by their athleticism and don’t really have the aura of a star—he’s got it all. I can’t stand him personally, but he’s got it all, I’ll give him that.”

On his thoughts on the current Knockouts division: “Personally, they are some of the coolest Knockouts we’ve ever had on the roster. Taryn Terrell is so funny, so cool. Brooke, Gail Kim….we have a very cool group of gals right now. The locker room, I think, has never been better for the Knockouts. So they’re thriving right now, and I think we’re going to see some good stuff from them for the rest of the year, as far as new things and new Knockouts coming in. Mia Yim, check her out, she’s starting soon. I don’t want to say too much.”

Hulk Hogan Announced As Grand Marshal For Susan G. Komen Event, Hogan Comments

7

WWE has announced Hall Of Famer Hulk Hogan as the Grand Marshal for the upcoming Susan G. Komen event. Below is a press release with comments from “The Hulkster.”

Hulk Hogan Serves as Grand Marshal for Susan G. Komen D.C. Race for the Cure

WWE and Susan G. Komen Team Up Once Again to Raise Funds for Breast Health and Research in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. AND STAMFORD, CONN. – APRIL 13, 2015 – Susan G. Komen today announced WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan will serve as the official Grand Marshal for the 2015 Susan G. Komen Washington, D.C. Race for the Cure®, taking place on Saturday, May 9, in Washington, D.C. on the National Mall.

In addition to serving as Grand Marshal, Hogan and WWE Diva Layla® have created “Team WWE” at the D.C. Race. Fans can join the team by registering for the Race at komendcrace.info-komen.org and search “Team WWE” under the “Join a Team” page or by clicking the link here.

Komen President and CEO Judy Salerno, M.D., M.S., praised Hogan for supporting the mission to raise awareness about the breast cancer problem in Washington, D.C., a city that has the highest incidence and mortality rate from breast cancer in the country.

“We are so excited to have Hulk Hogan join us at the Race and form a team to bring much needed attention to the breast cancer crisis we are facing in the National Capital Region,” said Dr. Salerno. “We are sure Hulk Hogan will inspire the legions of ‘Hulkamaniacs’ to be fearless in the fight against breast cancer.”

“It is an honor to join survivors, volunteers and participants and serve as Grand Marshal for Susan G. Komen’s D.C. Race for the Cure,” said Hulk Hogan. “I am proud to represent WWE as we continue to use our global platforms to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer.”

Hogan’s participation at the Race continues a history of success between Komen and WWE in raising awareness for the fight against breast cancer. In October 2014, the two organizations partnered once again for a special Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign titled “Courage Conquer Cure.” WWE Superstars and Divas wore co-branded Susan G. Komen and WWE pink ring gear, which fans and supporters were able to purchase, and WWE platforms also “went pink” for the campaign.

The partnership launched in 2012 with the successful “Rise Above Cancer” campaign and to date has raised more than $1.5 million for breast cancer research, education and screening. You can learn more about this partnership by visiting www.komen.org/wwe.

Since the Race’s inception in 1990, funds raised have provided more than $35 million for more than 300 community grants to local programs in the National Capital Region, aimed at low-income, minority and uninsured women in areas where breast cancer rates are the highest. Currently, Komen has 19 active grants for community education and treatment centers helping to provide breast health services, treatment assistance and patient support services in the National Capital Region – which includes northern Virginia, the District and Prince George’s and Montgomery counties in Maryland. In addition to community grants, Komen has invested more than $30 million in more than 120 grants to breast cancer researchers at local institutions, such as Georgetown University, The Institute of Medicine and Howard University.

There are multiple ways to participate in and fundraise for the D.C. Race, including the 5K or one-mile walk/run. Children ages five to 12 can register for Kids for the Cure®, a special kid-friendly race. To learn more, visit komendcrace.info-komen.org/. Backstage News Regarding Significant Pay Issues In TNA

48

TNA talent are currently frustrated due to serious pay issues in the company.

According to PWInsider.com, one source claims TNA is behind on payments by two pay periods while others are saying they are still owed money from February.

With TNA no longer running non-televised live events, talents are becoming more and more frustrated with the pay issues, with many of them having to supplement the income they do receive by working several dates on the independent scene.

Additionally, office talents in TNA are said to be behind by a few weeks as well. A different source claims TNA is not behind by two pay periods, but did admit that wrestlers are behind on receiving checks.

One source claims TNA has finally begun working on getting the pay issue under control this past week.

TNA no longer cuts checks in Nashville as they are now outsourced to a company based out of Dallas, Texas, where TNA’s parent company — Panda Energy — is located.

To make matters worse, Panda recently moved their offices and while that was going on, the department within TNA that handles checks completely shut down. This has led to a backlog on checks being issued to TNA.

Another issue that has added to the situation is the fact that TNA has recently taped several “One Night Only” pay-per-view events with non-TNA contracted talents. This left TNA being faced with a lot of payroll expenses while the company wasn’t generating revenue from the tapings that the One Night Only events were filmed at, as those shows won’t air on pay-per-view for several months. This has also led to checks for talents used on those shows being put on a backlog as well.
