  • Fenix, Drago, and AeroStar vs. Son of Havoc, Ivelisse and Angelico in a Trios Championship Tournament match
  • Sexy Star vs. Super Fly in a mask vs. mask match
  • Prince Puma vs. King Cuerno for the Lucha Underground Championship
  • CJ Parker On How He Was Signed By WWE, His Decision To Leave NXT & More

    31

Former NXT star CJ Parker, who requested and received his release from WWE last week, recently spoke with Gary Mehaffy of F4WOnline.com about his departure from the company. Below are highlights of the interview, which you can listen to in full above.

On what the WrestleMania experience is like: “It’s incredible! It’s not only just Sunday, it’s the entire week from Thursday to Sunday. They take over the entire town! Everywhere you look there’s John Cena there, there’s a WrestleMania 31 logo there – it’s incredible. And then the fans! You’ve got 80,000 fans that come from all over the world and it’s all anybody is talking about that weekend!…It makes you really proud to be a part of pro wrestling.”

On taking part in Axxess during WrestleMania week: “Being part of Axxess is so cool. There were some of those days we wrestled 5 or 6 times! You get to meet fans from all over the world….Sometimes you forget how big NXT is and how it covers the whole world. People from all over know who you are!”

On getting signed by WWE: “They hire based on giving people opportunities and signing people with potential…..I was doing TV shots for them when I was 19 or 20. I would go to the All-State in Chicago and handle myself like a good young kid – I was happy to be there! They would always call me because I wouldn’t be a fan boy – I wasn’t a headache! Tell me when to be there and I’ll be there – thought I’ll eat a lot of catering!….Out on the indys I wrestled Lenny Lane – we were having 20/25 minute matches. He called his buddy Norman Smiley….basically what Lenny told him was that I was a young kid with lots of potential and before he gets any bad habits you should get him in the system. Norman agreed and there was a try-out – it was, like, $1000 – I ended up getting the money for that and the rest is history!”

On his thoughts on leaving NXT: “I want people to know that I’m not negative at all. Maybe I was a little frustrated but I wasn’t negative towards WWE. I love WWE, and I always will! But I felt as a performer – as a pro wrestler – if I didn’t pull myself away (from NXT) and go out and get more experiences and more exposure and more (of) all those things that I think I might have trapped myself in a hole as being the guy out there that puts everybody over in 5 minutes. That’s not why I got into pro wrestling. I’m not a guy who’s just happy to be there (WWE). I’m not a guy who’s like “Well, I’m an NXT Superstar – hell yeah – give me some free drinks at the bar!” That’s not me. I wanna be on that team, but I wanna be batting third and hitting RBI’s every night. I wanna be a go to guy that they can count on…..There’s more in me that what I was doing, and I felt like the only way that I could show them that is maybe leave for a while and get some experiences and show them that I do have star potential. It was a really tough choice…..”

On becoming a wrestler: “(I said) to my buddy Roger (at the IWA show): ”These guys aren’t much bigger than us! I think I could do this”. I think I talked to Ian that night – I was 15 or 16. I told him “I want to do this” and he said “Well, you’ve got to be 18.” (So I decided) I’m gonna do college too but I’m going to do this.

As senior year was rounding out I started going to some shows near my house. I met a guy who (laughs) started to train me – kind of! He taught me how to bump and how to hit the ropes. He ran in a town that was really close to my house. Little did I know he just wanted me on the show so I could sell tickets to all of my friends and family!…..I’m so excited to get in the ring once a month and learn how to do a back bump and run the ropes and do a dropkick and a hip toss – and that’s about what he taught me! And then he said I was ready! I wasn’t trained but I sold about 100 tickets to my friends and family!

I realised that wrestling training was supposed to be a full time thing! it was supposed to be 4 hours a day, 4 times a week for, like 12 weeks. I’d been in a ring maybe 3 times and they put me in a match – that wasn’t the way I wanted to learn!….Truth Martini was working for Danny Daniels in AAW at the time, and I eventually spoke to him – and I talked to Danny too – and I said “I’m going to move to Detroit and od this the right way.”

Kurt Angle Talks About His Recent Negotiations With WWE, “It Blew My Mind”

    57

TNA World Champion Kurt Angle spoke to Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog this week about his recent negotiations with WWE and expressed disbelief about the company’s lack of interest in signing him.

After becoming a free agent several months ago, Angle decided he wanted to return ‘home’ and was interested in finishing his career in WWE. He reached out to Vince McMahon, but then got the runaround.

“Paul is in charge,” said Angle. “I found that out when I contacted Vince. I’ve always had a good relationship with Paul, so I didn’t consider that a problem. But he decided they had enough talent.

“For the Vince McMahon who I knew, enough was never enough. He always wanted more. I don’t know what was going on over there, but they even canceled our meeting. I never went to see them. They didn’t even sit me down and talk to me.

Angle was shocked at how the situation unfolded, but is grateful that TNA pitched him a deal that was too good to pass up.

“It blew my mind,” he said. “It was as if I was a nobody, that I wasn’t Kurt Angle. From a wrestling standpoint, they just weren’t interested. But TNA not only stepped up, they gave me everything I wanted – the dates, the money, and it’s no secret that I’ve went to rehab in the past, and they gave me time off. You talk about a company that’s loyal to you, and you want to be loyal back. So I didn’t pursue the WWE any further. When it comes down to it, you’ve got to stick with the people who want to take care of you. And [TNA president] Dixie Carter took care of me.

Angle spoke about the value he would have added to WWE and revealed several wrestlers he was interested in working with, had he been given the opportunity.

“I’m going to be straight with you,” said Angle. “The WWE would have made more money this year if they would have signed me. That’s no secret.”

“The best match of the year would have been between myself and Daniel Bryan,” said Angle. “Rusev would have made sense, and Brock and I could have went at it again. There were just so many places to go. I don’t know if they just thought I was too old, but obviously they’re not watching our product. Triple H is the same age as me. It was hard, but at the end of the day, I’m really happy.

“Will I ever go back? I really don’t care. I’m happy to be here in TNA.”

Bad News Barrett Calls Daniel Bryan A Paper Champion, Hypes Their Match At Extreme Rules

    6

This week’s WWE.com sit-down interview features Bad News Barrett speaking to Byron Saxton, who filled in for the “injured” Michael Cole. Here are some highlights of what Barrett said:

    – Barrett said he exercised his rematch clause against IC Champion Daniel Bryan at Extreme Rules because Bryan never beat him. He called Bryan a “paper champion” since he won the title in a multi-man match at WrestleMania.

    – Barrett doesn’t understand why Bryan is so beloved by the WWE Universe. He talked about the backstage segment at WrestleMania where the legends congratulated Bryan for his IC title victory. No legends ever gave him a pat on the back for being IC Champion and it doesn’t make sense. Barrett said Daniel Bryan knows that he’s the true champion.

    – Saxton said he doesn’t think any of Barrett’s IC title reigns have been as memorable as Bryan’s big win at WrestleMania. Barrett says it’s not about being memorable, it’s about proving you’re the best. Barrett said when he was champion, there was never any question about was the best. At Extreme Rules, he’s going to give Daniel Bryan something to remember.

Drew Galloway On Decision To Go To TNA, Working Face Instead Of Heel, Long-Term Goals

    6

Former WWE Superstar and current TNA star Drew Galloway (aka Drew McIntyre) recently spoke with the folks at Ring Rust Radio to discuss his decision to come to TNA and more. Below are highlights from the interview, which you can listen to in full above.

On the decision to sign with TNA and his long-term goals: “The process involved obviously talking with the bosses over there. I was over in Scotland for a show, for a Scottish company ICW. I spoke with them and initially I was a little apprehensive. I wasn’t looking to get back on American TV so quickly to be honest. I spoke with the bosses there and they told me the plan and I got excited about. With Destination America deal and the opportunity to be a part of something on the ground floor and try to build it up, and the opportunity to just be myself. Anything you see on TNA is me, that’s Drew Galloway 100%. I’m talking ad Drew Galloway, I’m wrestling as Drew Galloway, and it’s no gimmicks. I get to just be a wrestler and be myself. I’m getting the opportunity to do that with TNA and I couldn’t be any happier right now.”

On the transition from being a heel in WWE to a babyface in TNA and which he prefers: “Honestly I don’t have a preference, I just kind of do my thing. If you notice the way I wrestle, I do wrestle more like a heel even when I’m a face. I just have a particular style like I’m a hybrid European/American with a little bit of strong style in there. Honestly I don’t have a preference. I legit wrestle how I wrestle. If the fans are on board their going to cheer, and if they aren’t digging it they are going to boo. Either way I am having fun. It’s weird to be cheered to be honest, I’m just used to being the bad guy. The fans are digging what I am saying because everything I say is me, it’s not scripted. It’s Drew Galloway speaking his mind and they feel the same way if they are getting behind it. I want to say thank you to them for loving wrestling as much as I do.”

On forming The Rising and feuding with the BDC: “Well the guys I joined up with are guys that feel the same way I do about wrestling. They are really young, eager, and hungry. Obviously Haku’s son is a great part of the group. He’s got that family tradition and he loves wrestling more than anything. Shaun Ricker is my third man there. He is a young kid that’s being trying hard to get a break and just hasn’t gotten the opportunity yet. He has a great look and great passion. These are a couple of guys I’m excited to be running with me. Over the next couple of weeks, especially this Friday, you’re going to learn a little more about the group. We are going to be tweeting out the live tweets during the show. So if you are a fan out there, tweet what you’re thinking, tweet what you want, say anything in the world, and I have a hands on approach and I’ll make sure it gets on the show. It’s going to be an exciting few weeks coming up and you’re going to find out a lot about the Rising.”

On returning to his indy wrestling roots and if it helped with his confidence: “Absolutely. It was fun to do those lengthy matches once again. When I got into wrestling, I wanted to, you know, wrestle. I’m 29 years old, everyone seems to think I’m in my mid to late thirties just because I have been around for so long. I started when I was 15, wrestled the indies for six years, I signed with the WWE when I was 21 and stayed there for eight years. All I ever wanted to do was wrestle whenever I had the opportunity. I did make a few bold statements initially when I was cut from the WWE on Chris Jericho’s podcast. I told the world they never got to see the real me. A lot of people believed in me and gave me opportunities and I was very lucky with the places I have been and the titles I’ve won. I am currently holding five titles over three continents. Luckily I am making a name for myself and people are believing in me and giving me that opportunity. Places like TNA just giving Drew Galloway the chance to be Drew Galloway.”

On if his goal is to become TNA World Champion and how long he thinks before that will happen: “Well, if you’re not hoping to win the World title than you’re out of your mind. That is the prize and that is the goal. Kurt Angle currently has it and I’m very excited for the chance and opportunity to wrestle Kurt. That’s somebody I grew up watching and every time he came on the TV I was very, very excited to watch. The idea and the possibility to wrestle Kurt Angle for the World title, I mean, holy crap. Would you guys think if you were in a position to potentially get that opportunity would it be the dream right now? I’m going to keep working my arse off until I get there. I would be the busiest wrestler in the World. I was in Australia ten days ago, then I was in Tampa, San Jose, Scotland, London yesterday, and Belfast tonight. I am the World’s busiest wrestler and I’m going to keep busting my arse till I get my hands on that TNA World title.”

On problems in the wrestling business that he would like to help change: “Like I said, I would like there to be wrestling on the wrestling shows. When fans react to somebody and they obviously like somebody, that person should get the opportunity. In the end, it’s the fans that paid to come and see, to turn on the TV show, and if you don’t give them what they want their going to turn the other direction. Right now, there are so many companies offering so many alternatives for fans to watch. TNA just has such an incredible roster and guys I cannot wait to wrestle. Just getting the wrestling on the wrestling shows is fundamental. It’s like watching wrestling for any other reason than to see wrestling. Fans get invested in the people through the wrestling and just give the fans what they want.”

On some of the top names in TNA that he’s looking forward to working with: “There are so many guys I don’t want to leave anyone out backstage. Austin Aries, I have wrestled him once before at the ECW arena and that was a lot of fun. I’d love to wrestle Jeff Hardy, another guy I watched growing up. Matt Hardy and I could tangle again. There’s so many guys, I don’t want to be rude. Lashley is up there. Bram and I are going to beat the crap out of each other and I hope he is listening right now. I know soon enough Bram and I are going to tangle. We are buddies and go way back, but watch out for that because it’s going to be an absolute war. If I am missing anyone out, you pretty much know who they are if you watch the show. The guys that are awesome are the ones I want to wrestle. As much as Bram and I are going to be a way, Low Ki and I are going to be the war of wars. I can’t stress that enough. A big part of the Risings success is the heat between Low Ki and I and the animosity between us. It’s real, it’s very real, and when that match comes you better put the kids to bed early. It’s going to be more than a war.”

Dana Warrior Comments On The 1-Year Anniversary Of Warrior’s Passing

    5

Today marks one year since the untimely passing of WWE Hall of Famer The Ultimate Warrior. Warrior’s widow Dana has published a statement looking back on the past year, the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony and carrying on his legacy. RIP Warrior.

WARRIORS ARE REQUIRED NOT TO HIDE FROM PAINFUL ANNIVERSARIES…

Warriors my heart is crushed as I write this. At this time a year ago I still had him. At this time he was still walking and talking and breathing…I could reach out my hand and I could touch him. I could hear his breath, see the tiny hairs on his arms, feel the scruff of his stubble, hug him, kiss him, hold his hand and smile into his eyes as he brushed hair away from my face. A year later I do not have the privilege of any of those things. How can that be?

I’m going to tell you something I’m a little embarrassed to say. I have never unpacked my husband’s bags from last year’s Hall of Fame/ Wrestlemania weekend. They sit in a far nook of my house I walk by often. Every single time I see his red and black bags I tell myself I should pull off the bandaid and put his things away….but I cannot. If I unpack those bags he will never be here to repack them. He will never again choose the essentials to place in each case. His hands will never zip the zippers, his strong arms will never carry them to the car and he will really and finally be irrevocably gone.

Warriors, I know this is irrational but I will always tell you the truth and the truth is sometimes I think those suitcases will need to stay packed forever just so I don’t have to let him go…at least not all the way.

The single hardest thing I had to do this entire year might surprise you. WWE needed me to get his ring gear together for AXXESS which I am so glad that I did now and was entirely delighted to do when they asked..until I began the process. I would start out strong then end up in a puddle because the smell of him was in every fiber of those pieces along with his spirit. I cannot explain why I felt him most strongly digging into those boxes but the tears that dripped off my face and onto the his ring gear fabric were so much wetter and more painful than I could aptly describe. There was nothing that went with those monster tears, no sound, no hiccups, no sniffles, just the splash of rain puddle tears that felt as though they would never ever stop..but eventually, like every storm, they did. I touched the fabric, held his strings, ran my hand over his jackets and actually put my little feet into his giant boots. I cried thinking I could put my feet in these epic boots but I could never fill his shoes. There will ever only be one Warrior…and he was ULTIMATE!

You warriors out there give me so much credit for being strong but I fear that is not always true. This morning I do not feel strong. I feel sad and cheated. I wanted happily ever after with my husband…he was my guy and I loved him ferociously. I, of course, would not trade the beautiful years we had, even knowing the crushing pain that follows the loss. Still, perhaps I’m greedy, but today especially, I want more. We fought a lot of hard battles. We had a lot of tough things to face. I was looking forward to that time we slowed down just a stitch and soaked in the beauty of what we fought so hard to achieve. My goodness, I am so sad that will never be.

I will pick myself up and dust myself off and put on a brave face for my warrior girls today and we will celebrate his life today in a place he loved more than anyplace else but I’ll need your power and help. I never once spent a day lying in bed after we lost him because he would have abhorred that. My girls saw that and I think the proudest I’ve felt since our loss was when Indy mentioned that fact when she was being interviewed for the DVD. I had never thought of it but when she said something to the effect,”my mommy never once crawled into bed and gave up, she got up every day as positively as possible and carried our lives forward..” I sat taller knowing for all my mistakes I had done my job. For all the pain they felt. For all the sadness and uncertainty they were not afraid I would not steer the ship. For that I must thank Warrior for steeling my spine with twenty years of don’t be a cry baby training! I thank the grace of God, my dearest friends, my Auntie and Uncle, and ALL YOU WARRIORS who put on the face paint (metaphorically) and carried we three warrior girls on your mighty shoulders through this turbulent year.

I believe in observing anniversaries, even ugly, awful ones. I believe in facing hard days standing straight and upright not hiding in bed supine. I believe that we all have a choice when life hands you the worst case scenario and you’ll never regret making the choice to be brave. I believe we all have a divine plan and destiny and it is our job to show up, do the work and strive to realize what we are here to achieve….What I believe most, with everything I am is this..

This world was made better by a man brave enough to carry the name WARRIOR. This amazing and wonderfully generous man believed with every cell in his body that we are all uniquely created to be our OWN warriors and he would expect us to make that happen, each day, every day, especially today..and… ALWAYS!!

Rest in Peace beloved husband I will never let you down.

Scott Steiner Denies Threatening To Kill Hulk Hogan, Says Hogan Is Afraid Of Him

    25

Scott Steiner is denying the report by TMZ that he threatened to kill Hulk Hogan and says Hogan is acting like a “scared little bitch.” Steiner is currently under investigation over an encounter with Hogan’s wife Jennifer at the San Jose airport during WrestleMania weekend. She alleges Steiner grabbed her and threatened to kill her husband. A Police report was filed hte following day.

Steiner admits that he did approach Hogan’s wife, but only talked trash about Hogan inducting Macho Man Randy Savage into the WWE Hall of Fame.

“I told her Hulk introducing ‘Macho Man’ into the Hall of Fame is bullshit … He hated him. Everyone knew that.”

Steiner says there were cops at the airport when the alleged incident took place and questions, “If she felt her life was threatened, why didn’t she talk to the cops?”

Steiner says he hasn’t been contacted by the police and added, “It’s not my fault Hulk Hogan is afraid of me.”

Jim Ross Blog: SmackDown & Tough Enough, Jericho’s Interview With Cena

    1

In his latest blog at JRsBarBQ.com, Jim Ross wrote about SmackDown moving to the USA Network next year, the return of Tough Enough, Jericho’s interview with John Cena after RAW and more. Here are some highlights:

SmackDown & Tough Enough: “Smart move by WWE/USA Network to move Smackdown to USA in 2016 as that move should significantly increase viewership for the Smackdown brand. USA will apparently also be airing Tough Enough which will premier on Tuesday June 23 at 8/7 central time. I haven’t heard who will be hosting the reality show or who will comprise the coaching staff. The concept of Tough Enough is potentially compelling but it all hinges on the cast of characters that the viewers are exposed to each week in hopes that fans will invest emotionally them and in the process. Curious as to how the cast was selected and by who as that’s always the key to the show’s success in my view. Hopefully some “wrestling people” were involved in the process because viewers do like the reality show/soap opera aspect of the process but they also want to see athletes compete who have a legit chance to be stars in the ring also.”

Chris Jericho’s Interview With John Cena: “Watched the Jericho/Cena post RAW interview last night from start to finish. It had a ‘feel good’ undertone and covered a wide variety of topics that Cena addressed without reservation from my perspective. Nice to see John give props to our recruiting class that I sent to OVW in Louisville to be coached up by Danny Davis, Jim Cornette and company. That was a helluva group that included Cena, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Dave Batista and arguably the best natural athlete in the camp in Shelton Benjamin.

Cena came off as he is just a regular guy who has an insatiable work ethic and he is legit/honest in his love for the business as John being a lifelong fan totally jumped off the page at me when I decided to sign Cena out of UPW back in the day after his try out match with Samoa Joe of which I watched. Funny note…when John was the ‘Prototype’ he reminded me of a young Sting.”

Ring Of Honor Superstar Fired After Attacking Official

    17

Ring Of Honor posted the following update on their official website this morning, stating that superstar Tommaso Ciampa has been “fired’ for “brutally attacking” ROH senior official Todd Sinclair at the company’s tapings in San Antonio. Ciampa has been storyline reprimanded before for similar actions, including attacking Nigel McGuinness, and it’s unclear when he will make his return to television.

Tommaso Ciampa has been fired from Ring of Honor for brutally attacking ROH Senior official Todd Sinclair this past Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas.
Ciampa had previously been indefinitely suspended for attacking the ROH ring crew and Ring Announcer Bobby Cruise last August. After negotiations with ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness, Ciampa was given a second chance this past November to prove he was reformed. McGuinness informed him that he would be allowed back into Ring of Honor with the understanding that there would be a zero tolerance for any contact with ROH officials or employees.
Ciampa appeared to have his temper under control and had even recently earned a shot at the ROH World Championship on our 13th Anniversary Pay Per View just last month. This past Saturday night Ciampa once again attacked an official which left Nigel with no other alternative but to fire him.
We at Ring of Honor refuse to condone such actions and will work to our utmost capabilities to ensure the safety of our superstars, officials and staff. ROH executives are currently reviewing the footage to determine whether Ciampa’s actions can air on Ring of Honor Television. Please stay turned towww.rohwrestling.com for the latest update and announcements regarding this reprehensible situation.
