RVD Says He’s In No Hurry To Return To WWE, Talks About The Current Product & More

4

Rob Van Dam recently spoke with the WNS Podcast and revealed why he is in no hurry to go back to WWE. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On his thoughts on his last WWE run: “I had some good matches because all the wrestlers up there are really good and I had some matches that I enjoyed with Seth (Rollins) and Cesaro. But, overall, it was nothing like the run the year before. 2013, I came back after many years off WWE television. They promoted it strong. Like maybe stronger than anybody’s return before with the video packages of RVD coming back. When I came back, I delivered. Money In The Bank match in Philadelphia, that was awesome. That whole run I had a good time in 2013. In 2014, it was like they had nothing for me. No big intros, the writers seemed to not notice I was there. Like my music hit the day after Wrestlemania and I kinda just walked out like I had always been there. It was good but I don’t think there was a lot of utilization put on RVD. That’s really the big reason I’m not in a hurry to go back.”

On the current product: “I actually don’t [watch]. Even when I’m on it unless I’m there watching in catering while the show’s going on live otherwise I don’t keep up with it. I certainly get a lot of feedback from fans because they’re everywhere. And everybody wants to tell me whether they’re happy or disappointed in what the wrestling product is. But you know it’s an art form. And the fans, it’s their job to receive that art expression and that’s the way it goes. The fans don’t dictate…i thinka lot of the judgment is okay for conversation when they’re amongst themselves. But, as a wrestler, I think that when the fans really think that they know what would be better of they were in Vince’s position. They think they could run a global billion dollar company then I tend to think fan talks would probably be more enjoyed among themselves.”

On his thoughts of working part-time instead of full-time: “I think it’s all about balance. First off, it is the kind of business that if you get into it you have to sleep, breathe and eat wrestling. You have to compete with all these other up and comers that want it so bad more than anything else in their lives. And anywhere in the world if you’re talking about trying to make it to the level of being a superstar and you’re fighting against those odds you pretty much, to, have to have that determination to make it. So, guys like myself and probably Chris Jericho. But I can speak for myself personally and whole heartedly and tell you that it’s true for me. I don’t want it nearly as bad as those guys do. However, I have over 25 years of experience that you can’t replace.with skill, natural gifts or talent. That’s something you only get with enough time so we have that. We jave a lot to offer. Plus, I’m a legend. I’ve impacted peoples’ lives in such a way that they’ll never forget. I get that because I was a fan and because I watched wrestling as a kid. Even if I hadn’t seen “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine. Even if I hadn’t seen them in the last 25-30 years I’d still recog ized them if they walked into the room. That’s the way you ompact someone’s lives when you’re on their TV set in their living room week after week. Especially for a certain growth period in their life, that’s the lind of superstar vibration you can’t buy, you can’t get that anywhere else. So, you have to utilize that. Guys like that to draw and fans want to zee that. The you g guys that come up, they can be good, they can be talented, they can get the fans’ attention so they want to keep n eye on them. But, they can’t be legends or superstars without really putting in the time. It’s a balance and again the fans that theink they know it best, they look at it either way. The vetrans aren’t putting the young guys over, they think, or the young guys are squashing the superstars. No matter what you do, they’re going to pipe up and complain about it. But, when it comes to that, that’t the way it is. Like last time i don’t think any of the young guys had to worry about playing second fiddle to RVD.”

On his favorite opponent that brought the best out of him: “Throughout my whole career that’s goong to be Jerry Lynn. When I first wrestled him in ECW I could have bowled right over him and I could have been yesterday’s challenger. But, I thought there was something special about him. And so the cirst time I wrestled him we went 25 minutes and by the end pf the match my hair was pulled out all over the place, I had a bloody nose, my outfit was ripped, we had splinters we we were pulling out of our ass and when I finally beat him I felt like I had earned that victory and that for me was something I enjoyed about that time period in ECW being the whole F’N Show I had enough control to do my part to do what I could to mae sure that anyone that bought a ticket to come to see me got their money’s worth. Later in lofe that’s take. Away because what can you reLly do when you’re only out there for 2 minutes. And that’s going to include two ring entrances, a run in and a finisher. At that point you can’t be the Whole F’N show every night so that’s where some of the compromising was happening. Jerry Lynn and also Sabu because he’s so like minded. When we have a match we both have similar ideas what would make it a killer match. So that’s what’s important.”

On the differences between fans of different organizations: “Yes. Absolutely. ECW fans were original. They were part of the show. They were a bigpart of the show and other fans in other towns in other countries would imitate the fans that were on ECW television. Now with WWE there’s a mixture because it’s such a big crowd. You have the Middle America crowd that they target. It’s children and families and it’s family entertainment. The hardcore fans also go to those shows so you’re going to feel their energy too. But the wide majority of that vibration and energy from the crowd is more a family fin kind of thing. Now the fans in TNA that would come out to Universal Studios when I was there were shuttled in from the park where they were riding roller oasters and got to go to a free show. Then there were other fans that were there to support the product, that believed in the product and really wanted to see TNA move ahead. But at the same time, those fans wanted to do their part to help the company move ahead.”

On the atmosphere during One Night Stand 2006: “I think everybody watching that could feel the atmosphere watching that. The fans were screaming and there’s always been this feud between Philly and New York. And they would argue about whoch fans were the better ECW fans and we would travel back and forth and they both wanted us to consider them a home. The Manhattan Ballroom was the perfect environment to capture that energy that had fans pouring over top of us. Just the fact that those fans that night were 100% behind me and my passion and my vision which brought that night to fruition because it was me alone that said hey let’s have a PPV that’s ECW.”

On his thoughts on his time in TNA: “When I first got there they were trying to do Monday nights up against Raw and I thought that sounded exciting. I didn’t know much about them but they were trying to hire some former WWE guys. During my time there, they were still trying to do the right thing. Moving nights and moving out of the studios and doing TV on the road. But at that time, that was the same week I had left them after doing 3 years with them. It was cool. It was an easy gig. I would work for two days and then I would have two weeks off. So that was the easiest gig of my career until they started adding more house shows. More events. I had a cap on how many shows I would do in a year. So, when they would use up all my dates then they’d injure me and I’d be off for a couple months. There were some times they were doing things right, other times not so right. When they turned Jeff Hardy into a heel I thought that was the stupidest thing ever. It was hard to take alot of what they were doing seriously. I was there for them trying to do my part to help spread the word do what I could do help draw attention to TNA. When they moved to Destination America I wasn’t surprised. I was always hearing their deal with Spike was over. While I was there, I was always hearing TNA’s gonna fold and they’ve still been going strong against all these rumours so I’m not going to rule them out. As long as there’s a reason to believe they’ll be around, I think they can do it. Destination America’s a new channel. Nobody knows about it so their viewership went way down and plummeted. But hopefully that’s just temporary growth pain. In the meantime, I don’t think any ody’s touching WWE’s position as number 1. I think it is a good year for independant to step up.”

On other ventures outside of wrestling: “I was just contacted. I don’t remember how the original conversation took place. The guy that was handling the production I’ve known him through previous projects and worked with him in the past. It was just fun. I hate doing auditions. I grew up on video games but I don’t play any. I’m not reading any comic books but my favourite comic growing up has always been Ghost Rider. My book is Twisted Perception a graphic novel that I wrote.”

On what’s on the horizon for him: “There’s a lot in the writing world. It’s very important to me I get my autobiography out before I die and someone else writes it and screws up my life. But I have other writing projects I’m still working on but in the future I see myself using my brain more and my body less.”

Scott Steiner Being Investigated By Police For Threatening To Kill Hulk Hogan

31

We reported last week that Scott Steiner was banned from the WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony after being involved in an “ugly incident” with Hulk Hogan’s wife Jennifer on an airplane, however now we have more information on this story.

According to a new TMZ report, Steiner grabbed Jennifer at the baggage claim in the San Jose airport and told her that he had plans to “kill Terry” [Hogan’s real name] as soon as he lands.

Jennifer, who reportedly didn’t recognize Steiner, immediately called Hogan — who took the next flight into San Jose and went on to file a police report early the next morning.

Cops are currently investigating Steiner for “felony terrorist threats” and so far, officials have gathered airport surveillance which shows Steiner confronting Jennifer.

When contacted by TMZ for a comment on the story, Steiner simply stated, “Typical Hogan. He’s just a punk.”

Stephanie McMahon To Be Off WWE TV For Over A Month?

29

Last night on RAW, it was announced that The Authority was on a tropical vacation and would not be appearing on the show. Now, it looks like Stephanie could be off WWE TV for over a month.

Back in October, Stephanie was honored as a 2015 Eisenhower Fellow. Starting this week, Eisenhower Fellows are participating in a 4-5 week Multi Nations Program overseas. According to the Eisenhower Fellow website:

“Dating back to 1954, the Multi Nation Program (MNP) is the flagship program of Eisenhower Fellowships, designed to bring high-achieving individuals together across sectors and borders.  Each spring, 20-25 Fellows from around the world travel to the U.S. to collaborate as a cohort and embark on intensive seven-week fellowship experiences tailored to their individual interests and goals.

This spring, the 2015 MNP class will bring together Fellows from 21 countries, examining a diverse range of topics, from energy policy in Nigeria to youth leadership in Bangladesh.   As a part of the 2015 MNP, Fellows have been asked to focus their fellowships on concrete projects with real world impact, which they will pursue at the conclusion of the program”

It remains to be seen if Stephanie is in fact participating in the program, but the timing of her absence from RAW does coincide with the 2015 MNP beginning.

CJ Parker Talks About HIs Departure From WWE, Working With Bill DeMott & More

7

Former NXT star CJ Parker recently spoke with Inside The Ropes Radio regarding his departure from the company, his last day at WrestleMania 31 and more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

What Led To His WWE Departure:

“It was something that….It wasn’t an overnight decision. I began to feel that I needed to step away from NXT for a while and broaden my horizons and earn my stripes. Get some experience all over the world. Over the past couple of years, I’ve seen guys come in who are great friends of mine that have made names for themselves all over the world and then they come to NXT and you name it, the rest is history, they take off they do great things. I wanna say a lot of it is prior to their experience in NXT and I wanna go through that. I wanna live out of a suitcase for a while. I wanna wrestle in front of different types of crowds and try to get over all over the world, start from the ground up. I finally said, I’m 25, if I’m gonna do it, I gotta do it now.

His Final Day With WWE, WrestleMania 31:

“It was a beautiful thing actually, my last day and I watched my best buddy in the world win the World Heavyweight Championship. What a great day. To see him go out and accomplish that and just to know how hard he worked and as long as I’ve known him. I felt good. I was happy. I’m really excited about the future so there was no sadness.”

His Experience Working With Bill DeMott in NXT:

“The one thing about Bill that nobody can argue about is that he was extremely, extremely, extremely passionate about NXT and he was always… you could ride up at 7am, think you were early and he was there. You could think you were leaving late, he was still there. He put everything he had into the Performance Center and he put everything he had into NXT, he helped it get off the ground and he was truly… He was proud to be a coach and that’s all I really wanna touch on.”

Steve Austin Sets The Record Straight On His Relationship With WWE

30

WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has addressed several rumors about his relationship with WWE in the latest “Steve Austin Show” at PodcastOne.com. There have been a lot of reports regarding Austin’s status with the company, why he didn’t appear at WrestleMania weekend, the reason he’s not involved in the new season of Tough Enough and more. Here’s what he said:

– He was never supposed to be on The Undertaker’s flight to WrestleMania weekend. He’s not even sure exactly where Taker lives these days, but at no point was Austin supposed to travel with him.

– There were no creative discussions for him to participate at WrestleMania. He didn’t turn down any ideas, he just wasn’t booked to be there. He watched the entire event from home.

– He denies that he has heat with WWE for turning down Tough Enough. He had been in talks with WWE for quite some time to be one of the coaches for the show. They were supposed to start filming in February and March. Because it’s such a big production, things got delayed. By the time WWE was ready to start filming, he had already committed to CMT for a new season of Broken Skull Challenge. Participating in Tough Enough would have been an “absolute blast” because that was his first TV hosting gig. It was a scheduling conflict and nothing more.

– As for his Steve Austin Podcast on the WWE Network, Austin said the reason another installment hasn’t been booked is because the two sides couldn’t agree on a deal.  There is no truth to the reports that Vince McMahon was unhappy with the questions he asked during their interview. There was an offer on the table but they couldn’t get a deal done. He’s on great terms with WWE and is completely open to working with the company again.

There is no animosity from any standpoint between him and WWE.

WWE RAW Pros & Cons (4/6/15): A New Number One Contender Is Crowned

55

WWE RAW Results: April 6, 2015

Tonight’s episode of Raw was held in Austin, Texas, and featured the fallout from last week’s epic post-WrestleMania show. Fans saw a new number one contender crowned, John Cena issue another open challenge, and Sheamus solidify himself as a heel. Without further ado, here are the pros and cons from this week’s Raw.

Pros

The Authority opening segment is something we’ve all seen a million times before, but it actually worked out well this time around. Rollins gloated about his win at WrestleMania, while Big Show put over the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Randy Orton quickly interrupted the segment, declaring his RKO at WrestleMania to be the “most spectacular RKO of my career.” Damn straight, it was. This also set up the first meaningful main event on Raw in what feels like ages, as it was announced that Orton, Ryback, and Reigns would compete in a triple threat match to determine the number one contender at Extreme Rules. (Although wasn’t it already announced that Orton and Rollins would compete in the main event this past week?)

Seth Rollins was scheduled to face an unnamed opponent. As soon as Neville’s music hit, this was pretty much guaranteed to be match of the night. This was fought at a frantic pace for the most part, with both superstars gaining the upper hand at times. Neville utilized a number of aerial maneuvers during the match, including an awesome dive to the floor that saw him land on his feet. Rollins was equally impressive and showed why he’s the champ, as he worked over the NXT newcomer while hitting all of his signature moves. It was funny to hear JBL slip up and say Adrian Neville before quickly correctly himself. (Sorry JBL, they don’t do first names in the WWE anymore.) This had a few amazing sequences near the end including a rollup from Neville and Rollins countering into a powerbomb into the corner in a match that made both guys look good.

There was nobody in the company in more need of a face/heel change than Sheamus. He was as stale as a year-old loaf of bread as a face and cheesy af. His promo tonight was good and he was definitely over with the crowd. He was talking smack and listing off his measurements (he almost made it to his shoe size) before being interrupted by the World’s Strongest Man. The contest itself was pretty entertaining – with Henry tossing Sheamus around to the delight of his hometown crowd during the opening moments of the match. Sheamus countered the World’s Strongest Slam into a stiff Brogue Kick to end an entertaining segment.

The Prime Time Players were humorous during their Ascension parody promo.

This week’s main event was a triple threat match featuring Orton, Reigns, and Ryback. All three superstars were victorious earlier in the night and the winner of the main event would have a chance to challenge Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules. Orton was the star of the show early, hitting powerslams on both Ryback and Reigns. Ryback then took over for a little while and nailed Reigns with a Meat Hook before countering an RKO into a spinebuster. His momentum was brought to a screeching halt after taking a spear from Reigns, however. The Authority approached the ring and Reigns leapt over the top rope to take everyone out. Big Show would make him pay for his actions by hitting him with the knockout punch. The Authority then focused their efforts on taking out the Viper, and Ryback would get rid of J&J before taking an RKO from outta nowhere and losing the match. Orton wouldn’t have any time to celebrate though, as Rollins quickly delivered a Curb Stomp and stood over Orton to end the show. Even if the outcome was never really in doubt, it was nice to see a main event that had some kind of implications on the storyline, and it did something to further the feud between Orton and Rollins, so this has to be considered a positive.

Finally, say what you will about John Cena, but I think putting the United States Championship around his waist was a great idea. We got a quality match with Dean Ambrose last week, and this week was no different with Stardust rolling out to answer the open challenge. These two went together like beer and peanuts and put on an entertaining match. Cena dominated the match for the most part, but Stardust had his moments, such as when he countered an Alabama Slam into a sunset flip early in the contest. Cena showed his strength on multiple occasions by countering Cross Rhodes into a big power slam. In the end, Cena retained by hitting the springboard stunner he’s been using lately and following it up with an AA. Overall, it was a good match and it’s nice to seeing the title being defended on a weekly basis.

Live! With Chris Jericho Recap With John Cena

41

Here is a recap of the premiere episode of Live! With Chris Jericho featuring John Cena:

– Jericho said Cena is accused of being the guy with the 5 Moves of Doom. Tonight on RAW, we saw the springboard stunner and a Michinoku driver. Jericho joked if they’re allowed to name the moves that Cena used. Cena defined the Five Moves of Doom as two shoulder tackles, the “whirly bird special,” Five Knuckle Shuffle and the Attitude Adjustment.

– They spoke about elevating the US title. Cena said WWE has a lot of gifted guys in the locker room (he named Dean Ambrose, Cody Rhodes) and said he’s very happy to help elevate the US title. Cena said some fans might get ‘complacent’ with all the content WWE puts out and there is the risk of overexposure. He doesn’t care if he’s in the last match, the first match or in the middle of the card, he’s having fun. He’s bringing a mystique back to the belt.

– Cena talked about when he first broke into WWE, he rode with the Bashams, Funaki, Ultimo Dragon and Tajiri. He joked about the language barrier with the Japanese guys.

– Cena said he and Vince share the same vision, even if they have disagreements regarding creative matters. Some guys get into the business to be World Champion. He wants to take the business places it’s never been before. He wants to help WWE get into China & India.

– Cena’s early days in WWE. Cena wrestled his first PPV match against Jericho. Jericho was told he was going over but he urged Vince that Cena should win. Cena’s WWE debut match against Kurt Angle happened because The Undertaker couldn’t show up for SmackDown and they put Cena in the match. They talked about Vince’s ‘brass ring’ motto and Cena talked about the importance of connecting with the crowd, going out there and doing your thing. Jericho joked about dubbing Cena “wacky roll-up guy” because that’s how he won a lot of his early matches.

– They spoke about the stacked OVW roster with Cena, Lesnar, Orton, Batista, Shelton Benjamin. Cena puts each guy over huge and said he questioned if he’d be able to hang with them. Cena wasn’t the first, second or third hottest prospect there. Jericho asked how he set himself apart for the rest, Cena said he just works his ass off, show up early, leaves late and won’t give up.

– Cena said the hip hop gimmick really gave him his first big break. He was on a bus in Europe and sitting in the front when he heard the other guys freestyle rapping in the back. There ‘may have been’ some big decision makers who overheard him rapping and it got their attention. Cena wanted to be a wrestler when he was a kid and had to figure out how to break into the business, which was much more protected back in the day. Cena joked about being the first and only ‘reverse 2nd generation wrestler’ since his father got into the business after he did.

– Jericho complimented Cena’s physique and asked him if he’s ever taken performance enhancing substances. Cena said absolutely not and said he’s been very lucky to be surrounded by other highly motivated people. They showed photos from Cena’s bodybuilding days and Cena said every competition he ever did was drug-free. Cena’s been 250 pounds since he graduated high school. Jericho said Lance Storm is the same way, he knows Storm has never taken anything and he’s always been muscular and lean.

– They spoke about Cena showing up to a WWE show the same day he had neck surgery. Cena said he hates being away from WWE.

– Jericho said Cena is one of the few guys to ever drink him under the table. Jericho told a story of being in a hotel with Cena, going to the bar and Cena saw a couple that was arguing. It turned out they were about to get divorced, but Cena counseled them for a while and they decided to stay together. They went upstairs to drink more beers. Jericho passed out. When he woke up, Cena had tucked him into bed. Jericho was very scared when he woke up to see a guy in the room – it was Cena drinking beer and listening to Jericho’s iPod.

– Jericho said Hogan, Rock, Austin and Cena are on the Mount Rushmore of the industry since the mid 80’s. Cena said its a tough climate these days. He spoke about the audience rejecting Roman Reigns, who was a new, packaged company guy. He puts Reigns over as a star. Cena said “it’s going to be weird” from here on out. The industry has changed and Jericho questioned if there’s going to be another top guy again. Cena said there absolutely will be. Jericho said it’s hard for guys to take chances these days, but Cena said you’ve got to take risks. Its tough for him to talk to the locker room now, because he didn’t start with them. They’ve come up when it was harder to take chances on TV. Cena encouraged them to ‘go for it.’

– Cena tries to watch NXT as much as he can. The brand is picking up a lot of steam and that’s a great thing for the talent.

– They talked about his match against The Rock at WrestleMania 28. Cena said he wanted Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James. He talked about luring Rock back to WWE by saying he doesn’t love the business. Their promos were legit and he didn’t know what The Rock was going to say. The Rock was ‘protected’ in the sense that he couldn’t fully take the gloves off against Rock early on. They talked about Cena calling out The Rock for having notes written on his arm for one of his promos. Backstage before they went out, a referee asked Cena, “What’s that on his arm?” and Cena knew he struck gold. The Rock was pissed backstage after Cena called him out for that and their heat escalated to another level. He said The Rock is a great guy and even though they had legitimate beef, Rock was always a complete professional. Jericho and Cena agreed rivalries are always better when the guys are legitimately ticked off at each other.

– Jericho asked about the ‘Lets Go Cena, Cena Sucks’ chants. It never bothered Cena. Cena said he loved working in OVW as a heel but was just happy to hear the crowd was into the show. The fans who chant ‘Cena Sucks’ want something different, want something more but its also an intangible. Jericho said he can’t stand the “Poopie” John Cena (ie. his lame humor, playing to kids). Cena said you need to try different stuff, he’s not afraid to try different things, even though some things miss.

– Jericho asked Cena if he’s ever going to turn heel. “He’s stagnant, he’s stale.” Turning him heel was discussed briefly during his program with The Rock. They recorded new theme music, got new gear made, but it was still a casual thing under consideration. Cena was ready thought it would be great if he could have shown a different side. At the same time, he loves being an aspirational hero character. The 8 year old kid in the front row is lit up, the Make A Wish work he does is what it’s all about. Smart fans and adults want him to be a bad guy, but he would be letting down all the kids who look up to him. You get to a point in your career where you think about what he wants to do out there. There is a photo of Cena giving a high five to a sick child backstage at a WWE show and Cena doesn’t care if anybody anyone else is cheering for him but the child, because that makes it all worth it.

– Cena said right now, the future for WWE is up for grabs and there is no clear next top guy.

– Jericho asked him about his “ok” hand gesture. Cena said it started as a joke amongst him and some of the WWE crew but he’s proud that it now stands for Hustle, Loyalty & Respect.

– Cena said his favorite match is his next one. He named the first match with Rock at WrestleMania 28 after a full year of hype as a highlight of his career. A lot of the build was on his shoulders since Rock appeared occasionally, but The Rock brought it. He and The Rock have a great relationship now and Rock gives him valuable career advice.

– Cena doesn’t know when he will retire but says he’ll keep doing this until he can’t.

End of show, overall it was great.

Seth Rollins, Big Show, Kane & Randy Orton Kick Off RAW

This week’s show opens with Byron Saxton, JBL and Booker T being shown at the commentary table. Saxton explains why he’s out there instead of Michael Cole. He tells us that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are on vacation and won’t be here this week.

After some highlights from WrestleMania 31, we see Big Show standing next to the commentary table alongside the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy. Inside the ring is Seth Rollins, Kane and J&J Security.

The fans in Austin, Texas boo Rollins as he tries to begin speaking. The fans won’t quit boo’ing so Big Show tells everyone that this is our champion and to show some respect. He enters the ring. Rollins talks about HHH and Stephanie being on vacation this week.

“You sold out! You sold out!” chants fill the arena as Rollins says, “I really, really thought we were over this, guys!” Rollins brags about some of the records this year’s WrestleMania broke, but the biggest take-away from this year’s WrestleMania is that “The Authority always wins.”

He talks about some of The Authority’s accomplishments at WrestleMania 31. He talks about Triple H beating Sting. He talks about Big Show winning the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He tries to come up with something for Kane, but stutters and says “….and Kane …Kane was there! Kane was there, too! Yeah!”

Big Show takes over and thanks Rollins. He says he’s no longer under Andre The Giant’s shadow. He says he’s the greatest giant of all-time. He says everyone in WWE is now under his shadow and then puts over Rollins for ending the night at WrestleMania this year by becoming the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Show sucks up to Rollins some more and then introduces him as the champion to the fans in Austin.

As Kane tries to take his turn talking he is interrupted by Randy Orton. “The Viper” makes his way out and stops at the top of the stage. Orton says Rollins won the title at WrestleMania but he also lost to Orton after he hit the greatest RKO of his career on him. The fans chant “R-K-O! R-K-O!”

Rollins tells Orton that he always sees things like the glass is half empty. Orton says he’s not complaining, he’s telling it like it is. He says he beat him at WrestleMania and he deserves the chance to beat him again, but this time for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. “Wouldn’t that be best for business?!” Orton says to the crowd. The fans cheer.

Orton asks the “Director of Operations” Kane if he thinks that’s a good idea. Kane doesn’t say anything so Orton mocks him by asking if he needs to ask “mommy and daddy” first. Kane says he is the Director of Operations and tells Orton that unfortunately for him, there are other Superstars in consideration. He says tonight there will be a triple-threat match to determine the number one contender who will face Rollins at Extreme Rules. The match will feature Roman Reigns, Ryback and Orton.

Kane vs. Randy Orton

Kane says each of those three will compete in singles competition before the triple-threat main event tonight. He says Orton’s match is next — against him. Rollins complains off-mic to Kane as Orton makes his way down to the ring. The Authority clears out of the ring, all except for Kane, who is waiting for Orton to enter the ring. The announcers sell the announcement that was just made as the bell rings to make this one official.

Kane and Orton duke it out from the bell, with Orton establishing early control. It doesn’t last long, however, as Kane knocks Orton off the top rope and out to the floor as Saxton takes us to our first commercial break of the evening.

When we return from the break we see Orton headbutting his way out of a bear hug. Orton fires away with punches as the crowd cheers him on. Kane cuts Orton’s offense comeback short as he floors him with a big boot to the face and then goes to work on him in the corner.

Kane continues to deliver punishment until Orton catches him coming off the ropes with a quick body-slam. Orton follows that up by blasting Kane with his draping DDT off the middle rope. Orton turns into “Viper mode” and waits for Kane to get up. Kane realizes this and slides out to the floor, however Orton follows him out and blasts him with a clothesline and then back-drops him across the top of the barricade. Kane grabs a chair and nails Orton with it in the mid-section so the referee calls for the bell.

Winner via DQ: Randy Orton

After The Match

After the Lilian Garcia announces Orton as the winner by DQ, Kane drags Orton into the ring. As Orton gets up, Kane goes for a chokeslam, however Orton avoids it and reverses into an RKO attempt. Kane avoids the RKO and slides out to the floor and retreats up the ramp as Orton’s music plays.

Timing Issues At WrestleMania: Which Matches Were Cut Short?

32

On a four-hour pay-per-view for WrestleMania 31 this year, the longest match was just 18 minutes and 34 seconds — Triple H vs. Sting. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns was the second longest match on the main card, coming in at 16 minutes and 44 seconds. The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the Kickoff Show lasted 18 minutes and 8 seconds.

Regarding timing issues at this year’s WrestleMania, the main event was supposed to last about ten minutes longer than it did. The segment with The Rock and Ronda Rousey ended up going 24 minutes long, with WWE officials originally looking at cutting time off of the Bray Wyatt vs. Undertaker match to make up for it. Instead, the decision was made to chop the time off of the Lesnar-Reigns title match.

Magnus Comments On Samoa Joe’s TNA Departure, James Storm, TNA’s New TV Deal

6

Magnus recently appeared as a guest on Main Event Radio to talk about a number of TNA subjects. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On TNA’s new Canadian TV Deal with the Fight Network: “It’s great news. We’ve always been grateful for our fans in Canada, with the long rich history of wrestling. Bret Hart was my first real idol in the business; he was my hero as a kid. The Canadian wrestlers have always resonated quality and the market needs to be catered to.”

On how he’s evolved over the years: “I signed at the tail end of 2008 and debuted in January 2009. My mindset has completely changed. I was thrown into the deep end and it was a sink or swim situation. I was fortunate to be put right from the start with the British Invasion, Doug Williams, and work with Bobby Roode and James Storm [Beer Money]. Bobby for me is the measuring stick in our company and Storm is so good on the microphone. It was a learning curve and you had to keep up with those guys or get left behind. You learn from osmosis. You’re only going to really get good enough to connect with an audience if you work with people who know how to do it. I was fortunate to work with Kevin Nash who spent a lot of time with me early on, Kurt Angle, Booker T, Scott Steiner. Then from an in-ring standpoint I learned a lot from AJ [Styles], Samoa Joe, Motor City Machine Guns, Doug Williams, Jay Lethal. I knew I had to get better and I had that self awareness to improve quickly and I think it showed.”

On Samoa Joe departing TNA: “I was very disappointed to see him go. I was devastated. I refer to him as my big brother, a mentor to me. We tagged together and then as opponents he was a big supporter of mine internally and in public. I can’t say enough good things about him and he’s a guy who can be a star anywhere that he goes. He was somewhat of an authority figure and he was a guy who didn’t demand respect, he just got it by who he was and what he represented.”

On Bram’s arrival to TNA: “I spoke up on his behalf when things didn’t work out for him elsewhere. He’s a great talent, great intensity, and there are very few people like him. Our feud has easily been one of the best things in my career and that TNA has done in recent memory. He’s got so much charisma and so much energy. His enthusiasm is unparalleled.”

On his upcoming feud with James Storm: “James and I are no strangers to each other. I’ve wrestled James a million times but it was always me as a heel and him as a babyface. Will be interesting to see have it be the other way around. James is part of the fabric of the company. He’s been there from Day One. He’s always got a strong reaction, he’s not credited as much as he deserves. Regardless of where we go and what he’s doing he always gets a strong reaction. That’s what you look for in a talent.”

Jeremy Borash Talks About Getting Engaged, Working For Howard Stern & More

1

TNA personality Jeremy Borash recently spoke with the Minneapolis Star Tribune about a number of topics. During the interview Borash spoke about getting his start in the area as a radio intern.

“It started in Minneapolis in a little Christian radio station and I interned with a bunch of people; obviously, you know Ruth Koscielak,” Borash said of a longtime Minnesota radio personality. “From there I started working for World Championship Wrestling, which is Ted Turner’s organization. Long story short, got into wrestling, have been doing it since 1999. Through that I met with Robert Irvine the chef and numerous others. I’m working for Howard Stern now, too, doing some voice-over work. I’ve met a lot of people through wrestling.”

Borash also spoke about getting engaged. “My fiancée and I [christened] Buckingham Palace,” he said. “We went there for a party and, yeah, we slipped out, we said we had one chance to do this. This was a couple of years ago. I had some friends who were working for the queen, in a royal position … had a bunch of us over one night, right there in the quarters.”
