Dr. Tom Prichard On Seth Rollins, What He Taught The Rock, And More

4

Earlier this month, former WWE trainer Dr. Tom Prichard appeared on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling and spoke about a number of topics.

The former tag team champion spoke about Seth Rollins being the future of the WWE, what he taught The Rock, what made things easy in his own matches, and much more.

If you want to check out the interview in full, you can do so at this link, you can also check out highlights from the podcast below:

On why Seth Rollins was chosen as “The Future of the WWE”:

Rollins had that cocksure-ness, he knew he was good, and he was good, he was great. He and Ambrose had their angle in FCW, that was our top angle up until they went to the Performance Center. You knew that Roman Reigns was going to be great because he had the stock, he came from the stock they wanted.

Now, the way it turned out, once again, you have to peel back the layers and look at the business end of things, how does Seth Rollins get in that position? Seth’s a smart guy, Ambrose is a smart guy but I don’t know if he is as good a politician as Seth Rollins is, and that’s not taking anything away from Seth but you have to know how to play the game and you have to know who is running the game up there.

Seth got in with the right people and he has talent and he had everything going for him. Ambrose, I thought was very talented but there were some in FCW who didn’t think he had the look or the talent to be a top guy.

They were high on Reigns from the start because he had the family background, he had everything going for him, Ambrose and Rollins were going to be bit players in FCW that was the take on them but as time went on and other factors came into play, The Shield came about and they fractioned off and they became.

On what he was able to teach The Rock:

I don’t know that I was able to teach him that much. He came in August and debuted in October and had been in Memphis for a year and we just trained and worked out at that time with Achim (Brakkus) and Mark Henry.

He was a young kid, a great guy, had the Chia Pet haircut and you knew he had talent but once again you couldn’t tell, no one could tell at that time that he was going to be as big as he is today, but he had personality. To go over his finish, I gave him the shoulder-breaker, well, that was terrible.

I worked some of his first matches on the road and worked with him in the warehouse in the ring on a daily basis. He had that charisma, he had that personality but once again, you looked at him and he was this smiling, good looking kid with a Chia Pet haircut coming out and wanting everybody to cheer him and it just didn’t work.

People were revolting against that typical baby-face guy from back then and it was to his advantage because he knew and he understood once it was explained to him, once he got the feel of it, once he got to be who he really is, it was that smart-Alec come back with a comment kind of guy. That really gave him a platform, I had no idea that his goal in life was to be the performer or the actor that he is.

Jim Cornette Shares His Thoughts On Working with Kevin Owens And Sami Zayn

14

Jim Cornette featured on a recent edition of the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics including Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

On the topic of Kevin Owens, Cornette explained that he always knew he had what it takes to be a success in the WWE because he changed how he dealt with his employer asking him to do certain things relating to his job.

The only thing he was concerned about Owens was his attitude and mentioned a few examples including asking him to lose weight, coming back with a different look and push or even asking him to do a match in a particular way.

Cornette explained with Owens, there was quite a bit of arguing and or refusal to do certain things and that worried him when he went down to NXT adding that “either he, the WWE, or both, would need a psychiatrist within 90 days.”

He went on to explain to Roberts that despite all of that, apparently Owens is now doing what is asked of him rather than going into the business for himself or arguing about anything whether it be inside or outside of the ring.

Cornette also spoke about Sami Zayn and how he “was the second biggest pain in the ass” next to Kevin Owens adding that it must be something to do with being a French-Canadian in wrestling and that most of them, with the exception of a few, have been the same way.

He explained that Zayn got mad at him because he had always spoken about his selling, how he was an amazing athlete and how he was such a great babyface in the ring but Cornette wanted him to ditch the mask and the “goofy gimmick.”

Cornette went on to explain that he told him that he had to learn to speak and take part in interviews, and even get a tan and then told him that “then you will find mainstream success” and that didn’t sit well with Zayn who as Cornette said “thought I was crazy.”

Daniel Bryan Talks About Triple H Stopping One Of His Matches

19

While on a massive press tour to promote his new book, Daniel Bryan has reflected on an incident involving Triple H where he stopped one of his matches.

Speaking with Jim Norton on Opie Radio, the former WWE champion explained that while wrestling Randy Orton he “had gotten a stinger in a match and lost feelings” in both his arms.

He explained that he’s always had the mentality of never stopping a match and told the ringside doctor that would be okay to continue, however Triple H was sending word to stop the match.

Bryan said that he sprinted into the ring to try and continue the match with Orton because as far as he was concerned this was going to be the biggest victory of his career so far.

“I did a top rope dropkick, and I couldn’t get up,” Bryan explained, “I couldn’t move my arms. Randy, he’s on the ground going ‘Dan, Dan, what the F are you doing?'”

Eventually, Triple H had called off the match which didn’t sit well with Bryan who said that when he got backstage he was “hot” and almost came nose-to-nose with Triple H.

You can check out Bryan talking about the incident in the video below. You can also purchase his book “Yes!: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of Wrestlemania” right now.

Kamala Addresses Hulk Hogan Controversy, Reveals What He’d Say To Him Now

64

One of Hulk Hogan’s biggest rivals in the 1980s and 1990s, Kamala (James Harris), recently spoke with the Bleacher Report about the Hogan racism controversy.

“That’s not the Hogan I know. Hogan always treated me like a gentleman. He genuinely cared about me. He was my friend. He’d tell me, ‘Brother, I’m getting my money. I hope you’re getting yours, because you’re putting asses in the seats.’ When it came to our matches, he valued my input. He’d always say, ‘What do you want to do out there, brother?’ I’d tell him, and then we’d go out there and do it. He’s a sweetheart of a guy.”

Additionally, Kamala noted that Hogan just got caught with a “hidden recorder and said something he probably didn’t mean,” and that he is not mad at his former on-air rival.

“I’m not mad at him at all. Deep down, he’s really not like that. He’s a super-nice guy. I don’t believe he’s a racist at all, no matter what he said,” said Harris.

He also commented on what he would say to Hogan if he were to see him now.

“The first thing I’d do is shake his hand and hug him, just like we always do,” said Harris. “That wouldn’t change. Then I might say, ‘Hey man, what happened?’ But it’d be with a smiling face.”

Update On SummerSlam Being A 4-Hour PPV

42

Over the past week there have been reports that WWE SummerSlam will be a 4-hour show this year, similar to WrestleMania.

Luca Franchini, who does the announcing for WWE programming on Italy’s Sky Italia network, posted on Facebook that he was informed by WWE that SummerSlam will in fact be 4 hours.

Franchini also noted that SummerSlam will start at 7PM ET, which means the Kickoff Pre-show will start at 6PM ET.

WWE has yet to confirm the news. Considering the fact that The Undertaker was brought back to face Brock Lesnar and rumors that Sting will also be wrestling on the show, its clear that WWE is going all out to spike WWE Network subscriptions for the summer classic.

Scott Steiner Continues To Rant About Hulk Hogan On Twitter

25

It’s no secret that there’s no love lost between Scott Steiner and Hulk Hogan, with Big Poppa Pump rarely missing an opportunity to share his thoughts about the WWE Hall of Famer.

Forbes Claims ‘Hulk Hogan Scandal Costs WWE Shareholders $50 Million’

25

Forbes ran an article this week describing how the Hulk Hogan racism controversy cost WWE shareholders $50 million.

The article notes how shares of WWE stock increased 14 percent after an outperform recommendation from Wells Fargo earlier this month, making WWE shareholders $160 million richer. However, after the Hogan scandal broke this week, shares dropped nearly 4 percent on Friday to $16.60 per share, which cost shareholders approximately $50 million.

WWE stock would go on to fall even more in after-hours trading on Friday to $16.00.

It’s worth noting that the stock market was down around 1% on Friday and there are many other factors (including normal fluctuations) that could have contributed to WWE stock to drop. That said, the Hulk Hogan news certainly didn’t help WWE’s stock – but it would be very difficult to evaluate exactly how much the bad press cost WWE shareholders.

Bret Hart A Strong Contender To Replace Hulk Hogan On Tough Enough?

Nothing has been clarified as of yet however WrestleZone.com have reported that Bret Hart had been flown in to meet with Vince McMahon about taking over Hulk’s role.

Enzo Amore, Big Cass & Carmella Make WWE Main Roster Debuts

32

Enzo Amore, Big Cass and Carmella appeared at Saturday night’s WWE live event from Odessa, Texas. This was the main roster debut for Amore and Big Cass. They defeated former NXT tag team The Ascension.

It’s worth noting that a correspondent who attended Saturday night’s NXT live event from West Palm Beach wrote in that Enzo and Cass had been advertised for that show.

There’s no word yet if they are booked for future WWE live events. Enzo and Cass have been considered ‘ready’ for the main roster for quite some time and are one of the most over acts on the NXT brand. WWE typically brings NXT talent to work live events to test them out for main roster call ups, so don’t be surprised to see the flamboyant trio on WWE television in the coming months.

Daniel Bryan Talks About Winning Over Vince McMahon

7

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan recently spoke with Brian Fritz of The Sporting News earlier this week and was asked if he feels he has won over Vince McMahon.

“You know, yes but I don’t know to what degree,” Bryan said. “You know what I mean? Does he think I should ever main event another WrestleMania? I would say probably not. (laughs) It’s interesting. I think he likes me, he sees me as a valuable performer. He sees me as someone who makes the company money. But I still don’t think he will ever see me as ‘the guy’ in the way he sees John Cena as ‘the guy’ or in the way he potentially sees Roman Reigns as ‘the guy’. To this day, I still don’t think he sees me like that.”

Bryan was also asked how much he feels the injuries he has suffered have prevented him from being viewed as one of the top guys in WWE.

“Yeah, that has hurt me a lot as far as that goes,” he said. “It would be interesting to have seen what would have happened had I not had my neck surgery shortly after WrestleMania last year. And when I say that, when I say he doesn’t see me as ‘the guy’, I’m not blaming him. He has good reason to not see me as ‘the guy’. Right? (laughs) There’s plenty of reasons for me to not be ‘the guy’. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t see me as a valuable performer.”

Daniel Bryan Talks About WWE Not Clearing Him To Wrestle

13

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan recently appeared as a guest on the Busted Open Radio show to talk about the status of his injuries and recovery. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On the chance that WWE won’t clear him to wrestle in WWE: “Yes, there is that chance. But I told them, regardless of them, if they won’t clear me … we’re independent contractors, in theory … and I WILL wrestle again. I am cleared by the neurologist in Phoenix that I’ve been going to see. It’s not like he’s a quack doctor. He was the neurologist for the Super Bowl … who has no problems in clearing me with no limitations. But you also have to understand that WWE is not only looking out for my best interest, but they have to look out for their company as well, and I understand all of that too. There is nothing vindictive or anything there’s just a lot of hurdles to go through at this point with getting cleared by WWE. I had a sit-down with Vince and Hunter about this and said, “Hey, this is my passion. I understand why you guys wouldn’t clear me but we only get, as far as we know, one life. And you’re not going to let me do my passion?”

On the specifics of his injuries: “Well, it’s actually not a neck issue, my neck is completely fine. It’s more of a concussion issue. And Brie was very hesitant about this whole thing and that’s why WWE is very protective over me too. Everyone is more aware of concussions and that’s why, with WWE, I don’t see what they’re doing, as far as making me go through all these hurdles, I don’t see that as a negative. They’re protecting me and especially in this era of concussion awareness. Brie at first was like, ‘Hmm, I’m not sure, given your history.’ But when we met with the neurologist in Phoenix and we went through all the testing and he said: ‘Ok, all of my testing is not just coming back good, it’s coming back excellent.’ As far as my brain right now, it’s at a level above most people who have never had a concussion my age.

“When you are looking at scores of like: Bad, poor, fair, good, great, excellent — it’s at those great-excellent levels. So all of that to say, she had gone from being very skeptical about it to being very supportive of me being able to wrestle again. And she is someone who will flat out say, ‘I’m not just interested in what happens to him 2 years from now or five years from now’ and she doesn’t care about the money or anything like that, she is interested of where I’m at 20 years from now. The deal with my arm, they told me this because I waited so long to get the surgery, my right arm might never get back to full strength of my left arm. So right now, it’s about 85 percent and it hasn’t improved much in a while. But because the nerve had been cut off for so long, there is a very good chance that that will never come back. But, it’s not like I’m feeble with my right arm. My left hand, and we’re going mostly by grip strength because my triceps strength and all that kind of stuff is equal on both sides. My grip strength on my left hand is about 150 pounds of pressure and my grip strength in my right hand is about 130 pounds of pressure. The average male my age is about 100 pounds of pressure. So it’s not like I’m ‘arrrggghhhhh poor me!'”

WWE Rep Comments On Vince McMahon’s Use Of ‘N’ Word Back In 2005

78

Following the news yesterday that Hulk Hogan had been removed from WWE for using racist language, Vince McMahon faced a backlash for using the ‘N’ word himself back in 2005.

It was at a PPV back in 2005 where McMahon was speaking with John Cena backstage. He then dropped the ‘N’ word and walked past Booker T and Sharmell who looked on shocked.

TMZ are reporting that Hulk Hogan believes the fact that he was fired even though Vince McMahon used the ‘N’ word back in 2005 is outrageous.

A rep from WWE has told TMZ that the segment “was an outlandish and satirical skit involving fictional characters, similar to that of many scripted television shows and movies.”
